golfing motivation.
Tumblr media
a/n: ok so this is a small blurb inspired by the videos of Matt golfing with the group the other night…. let’s just say girl was giggling and kicking her feet at how good he looked. Also I’m rusty at writing so be nice to me :) enjoy! (Also this is not edited-)
warnings; none… all fluff!
“Jesus Christ, Matt!” Colby said after Matt had hit the ball with his… unique style of swinging. Matt looked over at the group with a smile as he started to take his white jacket off, walking back over to the group as he set it down next to you. His green and yellow shirt now in view as he adjusted it to his body.
“It’s either really good or really bad!” Matt said as he gripped the club in his right hand as he placed it under the censor, allowing it to give him a new ball.
“Do it again, Matt.” Larry said as he brought his phone out and started to film the boy. Matt took his rings off before he looked at you, pointing his finger at you.
“If this is a good hit, you give me a kiss-“
“Bet!” You said as you leant back in your seat, watching the him as he placed the club on the left side of the ball. He sighed before swinging the club around in a circle, hitting the ball perfectly as it soared through the air, loosing sight of it quickly from how fair it went.
You got up with a sigh as you went up to him, it now being your turn, plus you had an award to give him. “I will be honest, I was praying on your downfall-“
“Oh shut up.” He said as he placed his hand on your cheek, placing his lips on yours. The kiss was quick and gentle, nothing more than a few seconds. But those few seconds got some cheers from the friends you were with.
“Oh Jesus, they’re kissing again Nick-“
“They always do that… you’re surprised?” Nick asked Chris as you laughed at the brothers as Matt flipped them off.
Taking the club from Matt, you stood on the green mat as a ball came out of the dispenser and you placed it in the middle. You had gone golfing with Matt and his family before while visiting in Boston, and had gone to top golf with them on occasion. But you never really knew how to hit the ball.
You didn’t want to ask for help, not wanting to take to long of a time so the others could have their own fun, so you just stood there, placing your hands in various different ways.
Matt was laughing at something Sam had said when he turned back towards you, placing his rings back on, as he saw you messing with the club. A small smile made its way to his face as he walked over to you, placing his hands on your wrist gently, making you jolt back in surprise.
“It’s just me, sorry for scaring you. Can I help?” Matt whispered to you as he moved closer so he had better access to your hands. You nodded in agreement as you allowed your hands and wrist to relax, letting him move them himself. “Put this one here, mhm, and that one right…. here.” he said as he placed your hands on the club that seemed fit and comfortable to swing with.
“Now just bend your legs and you’re good!” He said as he patted your waist and stepped away.
“Promise not to laugh if I miss?” You asked as you tightened your grip on the club and looked at him. You didn’t care about the others and if they laughed, you only cared about impressing your boyfriend even if you both knew that you kinda suck at golf.
“Promise baby.” Matt said as he crossed his arms and nodded at you, giving you the go ahead you didn’t know you needed. You took a deep breathe before swinging the club back and following through as a the sound of the club hitting the ball rang through the air.
“Ooo that was beautiful!” You heard Chris yell as you faced towards the open field, full of golf balls waiting to be picked up, as you watched your ball soar through the air. It wasn’t far, but it was far enough for you to throw your hands up and bounce on your feet as you made your way over to Matt.
“Did you see that?!” You exclaimed as Matt held a wide smile on his face, nodding as he opened his arms for you to fall into.
“I did, baby! That was so good!” Matt giggled as you wrapped your arms around his waist, wrapping his own around your neck, kissing the top of your head as he whispered ‘that’s my girl.’
“You have another shot, girl!” Larry said as you pointed at the screen, showing you that your name was still present on it.
“Wait…. I have to do that again?!” You asked, eyes wide as Matt laughed a bit as he nodded and everyone else giggled at your words. “I hope you guys aren’t wishing for the again, because that shit would take a miracle-“
“Or maybe just a little motivation from Matt…” Jake interrupted as he looked away from you as to direct the attention away from him.
“Don’t you dare give him that idea-“
“I quite like that! Here let me show you again babe..”

re: production values for Thresher and actually liking the choices made, I think my thought processes are as follows:
The filming of standard gameplay isn't terribly different from how D20 is often filmed, which I've never minded. I think why I don't like the CR split screen is that it doesn't add anything and indeed subtracts deliberately and without any real end except Making Faces Bigger/ removing people from between two actors. Which, if the notes on my post about Caleb and Fjord's wild interactions are any indication, isn't even something the audience cares about and indeed seeing other players' reactions is fun (see also: everyone tracking Aabria and Travis in EXU Calamity). But if you're filming a table without the Two Rows method that is CR's mainstay, then sure, frame your shots.
Obviously no complaints about costuming/fun set stuff; I don't find that disruptive and I enjoy it. Same goes for credits or intro.
The interlude as they descend works because it was a pure RP moment and a transitional scene. Same with the introductory video and the recordings; diagetic information is great! In C1, C2, and a little even in early C3 Matt was quite good at giving the players physical letters when relevant, and a recording in a setting that offers that is also great.
The music was pretty subtle but present and non-intrusive. I actually like a little more noticeable music personally, but I think there's been a trend away from it in filmed AP lately, and what they had was setting-appropriate and while I don't know if it really deeply enhanced the vibe, it certainly didn't disrupt it.
The background was very cool and again I think scrims/cool backdrops are great.
Radio voice effects also good and I think they did a good job of making it still sound very listenable (plus it was released with closed captioning).
Pop-ups with descriptions are great, especially in actual play, and these were very unobtrusive in my opinion. D20 does this sometimes as well.
I think what I don't care for, particularly, are extensive VFX in-game. The ones in Downfall were ultimately ok because they were brief and added to the idea of this being otherworldly/outside of time as we understand it, once we understood the vibe of the actual show. If they'd continued I'd have been annoyed, but fine for just the Tengar scenes to show how the gods were once very different. But I don't care for, as discussed, the split screens; the Jaysohn edit from Burrows End and some of the jittery effects in Neverafter; or whatever the hell Kollok is doing.
It's also, ultimately, a matter of production prioritization. If the story isn't strong and production values are, then I'm going to be a lot more harsh than if the reverse is true - once CR fixed their sound equipment issues in their debut, the story was still stellar despite filming in what the cast has joked looks like a child's bedroom. Late Campaign 2 is still excellent despite the demands of social distancing putting everyone in front of a backdrop reminiscent of 1990s school pictures. A bare bones podcast with a good story is going to be better than a heavily produced show with a bad one. Thresher thus far has delivered, with great acting and an intriguing premise, and so I'd be enjoying it even if the production was much simpler. It doesn't feel like the core was neglected in order to provide a glitzy exterior.

How well would your OCs do against a cockroach tag game
🚧Fear Factor Edition⚠️
Tagged by @angry-kid-with-no-money
Rules: rate your OCs by how well they'd do against a cockroach. Bonus: write an entire scene out of it if you want!
Janie Smalls: Would hunt the cockroach for sport. She just wants it dead and has no fear.
(REDACTED) Smith:
Nicky's phone rings while he's out enjoying an 'enforced' family dinner with Aaron and Andrew. He looks down at it, "Oh, hold on I need to take this." he says reaching for his phone only for both Andrew and Aaron to slap his hand away from the center where they had each placed their phones at the beginning of the dinner. "Why??" he asks.
"If we're not allowed to talk to Katelyn," Aaron gestures to himself, "or Josten," Aaron gestures to Andrew, "then you don't get to talk to Erik." he says.
"It's not Erik, it's Smithy! He wouldn't call unless it was a problem." Nicky whines.
The twins consider this before giving a 'go ahead' gesture to Nicky. Nicky quickly grabbed the phone and hit accept before putting it up to his ear, "Hey Smithy, what's-"
The twins watch on as confusion filters across Nicky's face.
"What is it?" Andrew asks but Nicky shushes him.
"Smithy, you're not making sense. What do you mean you're going to quit the team?" he asks which has both twins straighten up. "Smithy, why in the world are you moving to Antartica? Smithy, you're talking really-" there's a pause and both of the twins can hear what sounds like a scream on the other end as Nicky pulls the phone away from his ear.
Nicky blinks in shock but after a moment brings the phone back, "...so Matt killed it?" Nicky asks. "No, I don't think they should rename Antartica Antblattodea what does that even mean?" Nicky asks with a laugh.
There's a pause as Smith apparently explains the joke.
"I'll leave it up to you to make that argument. Sure it'll go over well. So, you're not quitting the team?" he asks and there's another pause, "Ok good. See you when I get back." another pause, "Yeah I'll pick up Roach spray." he agrees.
Anyone who wants to join in feel free! I don't know enough about other people's OCs to tag people properly but I'd love to read about them.

Chapter 2
Pairing: Elektra Natchios/Karen Page
Tuna-Tober Prompt: Mutual Masturbation
Summary: Matt’s tied up and Elektra and Karen have some fun.
Word Count: 3099
I had to edit/upload this on mobile so I’m crossing my fingers that this posts correctly.
Thank you so much for reading! Gentle reminder that reblogs are the best way to support writers on this platform. XOXO
“Yes, you can kiss me.” Karen responded with a soft smile as her cheeks flushed. The tense mixture of nerves and excitement was swirling around her body as Elektra slowly leaned in to kiss Karen, pausing when their lips were barely touching. Elektra held space, taking a few moments to breathe each other’s air, building a palpable tension. Karen could feel Elektra’s warmth radiating off her skin and on to Karen’s. The anticipation was making her palms sweat and her heart race. Elektra moved her hand to cup Karen’s cheek before closing the gap and delicately kissing Karen.
Karen’s skin prickled at the sensation of Elektra’s soft lips on hers. Her usually busy mind blanked out as she gently kissed Elektra in return. She was a bit taken aback by the sensation. Karen had kissed her fair share of men but this kiss was so different. Elektra was taking her time, enjoying the experience and sensation with Karen. Elektra was letting Karen take pleasure with her exploration, whereas many of the men she had dated in the past were more firm and quick to advance exploration with her.
Elektra slowly leaned back, breaking the kiss but smiling as she did so. “Can I keep kissing you?” She asked as she tucked a strand of blonde hair behind Karen’s ear.
“Yes.” Karen breathed out before hungrily closing the gap between them once again. Only this time, Karen wasn’t so timid as she open mouth kissed Elektra, slipping her tongue into Elektra’s mouth. She lightly moaned before massaging her tongue against Karen’s.The girls sat on the couch, taking their time making out and playing with each other’s hair. An occasional giggle slipped from Karen in between kisses.
Matt was in no hurry for this to end. He enjoyed being lost in their arousal.
Their bodies were calling to him. He could feel how hot their figures were pressed together. He could sense how every tender touch to the lips and each soft caress of their hands were working each other up. The scent of their arousal was already thick and beginning to linger in the room, despite being fully clothed. Karen was so easily worked up and he knew she would be a pleasure to ruin. In due time, that is. Until then he politely waits, letting the ladies have their fun. Temperance is a cardinal virtue after all.
Elektra breaks away from the kiss once again. “Would you like to take this somewhere more private? We can stay out here if you like, or we can go back to our bedroom.”
Karen pauses to think. The thought of doing this in front of Matt was really turning her on but the newness of it all had her feeling insecure.
“Um, yes. I’d like to go to your bedroom. This time.” Karen quietly replied.
“Ok love, wait here for just a moment. I’m going to get something ready. Wait here, love.” Elektra brushed Karen’s cheek before sauntering off to the bedroom.
Karen exhaled sharply and moved to untuck her top from her skirt. She was already feeling flushed from the little bit of making out they just did.
Karen and Matt sat hot and bothered in the living room. The air is already heavy with want. Tension between Matt and Karen was high as they waited for Elektra to return. Karen was trying to slow her breathing. Matt was feeling heady with desire but he noticed Karen swallowing hard and her changing heart beat, indicating that she was getting nervous once more.
“Remember if you start to feel uncomfortable at any time, just tell us and we will stop everything.” Matt spoke softly as we sat back into his seat, wanting to soften his body language for Karen’s sake.
“I know.” Karen smiled, breaking some of the tension. “I just started to get nervous again but I know everything will be ok.” She said, before turning her head to face the loud bang that just came from the bedroom. “I just need to get out of my head.”
”Alright everyone, thanks for your patience.” Elektra announced on her way back into the room.
“I couldn’t find our spare pair of handcuffs Matty, so I had to pull ours off the bed. Although I don’t think you’ll mind.” Elektra taunted as she proceeded to handcuff Matt to the chair.
Karen’s mouth drops in shock but Matt could smell the increase of her arousal.
“Are you ok with this Matt?” Karen asks.
“Oh, I’m more than ok. Are you comfortable with me out here listening?”
Karen nodded yes before Elektra asked, “Karen, sweetie, may I have your panties please?” Extending her hand out toward Karen.
Karen quickly glanced between Elektra and Matt. Matt sensed her staring at him and nodded in her direction.
Smiling mischievously, whilst also thinking to herself: what the fuck am I doing? And Why do I like it so much?  Unfortunately: Is this too soon? Followed quickly behind. Stop denying yourself. Was the last bit of rumination on the topic. Before she can change her mind,Karen stands and pulls up her skirt just enough to shimmy her panties down her legs. Stepping out of them, she hands them to Elektra.
“Thanks dear.”
Elektra walked over to Matt and knelt down beside him.
“Karen and I are going to go play in our bedroom. All you need to do is sit here like a good boy and kindly wait until it’s your turn.” She places a kiss to the side of his cheek and she sets Karen’s panties on his shoulder, knowing that having her scent so close would drive him wild.
“Yes, Mistress” Matt groaned in response, feeling the fabric of his pants tighten against his dick as his body responded to Elektra.
Karen appreciated the view of Matt willingly handcuffed to his own chair. It was a pleasant juxtaposition to the dominant man she knows in the courtroom. She had always had a physical attraction to Matt but had never indulged in the urge to act on it. Karen didn’t want to ruin their professional relationship. But today, she allowed her eyes to wander to his pecks that were straining against his t-shirt. She admired the way his sweatpants clung to the muscles on his thighs. She took note of his knuckles turning white as he gripped onto the side of the chair. She knew that Matt was more than capable of breaking out of Elektra’s restraints but seeing this strong, capable man hold himself back made her feel supremely safe.
“C’mon love. Let’s go and play.” Elektra took Karen’s hand and guided her into the bedroom.
________________
Karen and Elektra sat next to each other on the bed. Elektra moved to face Karen and said, “I only require Matthew to call me Mistress. You can refer to me as you wish. And later on if you feel comfortable we can include you in that dynamic.”
Karen pauses for a moment before replying. “I think I would like to call you Ellie, for now.” Her cheeks flushed red with her response.
“Now, Ellie, I would very much like to kiss you some more.” Karen purred as she began to unbutton her top. Her boldness surprised even herself.
“Ask and you shall receive.” Elektra husked before brushing her lips with Karen. Elektra traced the outline of Karen’s lips with the tip of her tongue. Karen raggedly exhaled.
Their kisses quickly turned sloppy in the privacy of Elektra’s bedroom. Their teeth clicked together as Karen snaked her hands around Elektra’s shoulders. Elektra took her hands off Karen’s hip and worked to remove both her shirt and bra.
Karen paused, her breath hitched as her eyes took in the goddess next to her.
“You are so fucking beautiful. Can I touch you?”
Elektra giggled and brought Karen's hands to her chest, before leaning in to kiss Karen.
Karen shuddered and excitement coarsed through her body as she opened her mouth against Elektra’s once more. Tongues collided as Karen caressed Elektra’s neck. She gently cupped Elektra’s breasts as they continued making out.
Elektra’s skin was so soft and her gentleness with Karen mixed with the excitement at the new experience had Karen’s breath picking up. She clenched her thighs together, attempting to quelch the desire building in her low belly but her missing panties made the dampness between her thighs even more apparent. All of this aided in Karen’s braveness to explore her new partner’s body.
Karen pulled back, looking Elektra in the eyes. She was enjoying fondling Elektra.
The weight of her breasts in Karen’s hands released any remaining nerves left in Karen’s body and she allowed herself to gently squeeze them, taking note of the look of pleasure in Elektra’s eyes. Karen’s touch caused Elektra’s nipple to harden and Elektra sharply inhaled as Karen instinctively brought her thumbs across them. The noise encouraged Karen to do it again only this time she brought her pointer fingers and thumbs against her hardened nipples and gently pinched them. Elektra shivered and Karen pinched her nipples for a second time, causing Elektra to whine. The sound shot right to Karen’s core. The intensity shocked her and before she could stop herself, a nervous giggle slipped from Karen’s mouth. The sexual tension shifted to something lighter and once again some anxiety within Karen creeped up.
”Are you ok? Do you need to stop?” Elektra asked Karen.
”No, I don’t want to stop but can we slow down a little bit?I think I got a bit too carried away. I’m really sorry I’m getting stuck in my head. I promise I want to do this with you.”
Of course we can, darling. We can stop now if you like. There’s no pressure to do anything. We can simply sit here and talk. Or we can cuddle for a bit.” Elektra calmly said. She lifted Karen’s chin to meet her eyes.
“How are you feeling?”
Yet again, nerves began to course through Karen’s body as she took a moment and really thought about what was going on. She scanned her body, to see how it was feeling before answering.
“Truthfully, I think I’m ashamed of how excited you make me feel. I come from a strict background where this would be frowned upon and I think a bit of my initial programming is getting to me. I don’t know how far I want to go tonight but I do know that I’m not ready to stop yet.”
“I understand.” Elektra soothingly replied. “You and Matthew have that in common. Although something inside me believes he enjoys the suffering he brings on to himself.” She added with a giggle.
“Yeah, I can see that. Can’t be a good Catholic boy without the corresponding guilt can you?”
“No, I think not.” Elektra whispers back, nuzzling her nose against Karen’s. She brought her hands up to the back of Karen’s head cradling her. She then slipped them up under the nape of her neck. “Can you relax for me?” She asked Karen as she began to massage the back of Karen’s head with her nails.
“Mmmm, yeah I can.” Karen replied, relaxing into the sensation. “Tell me, do you treat all the girls you meet as good as this?”
“No dear, not all of them. Only the special ones.” She whispered, her breath tickling the shell of Karen’s ear. That tickle quickly turned into a shiver then down the right side of her body and reigniting her core.
Karen once again basked in the comfort of Elektra’s closeness.
“Do you think we could lay down?” Karen asks.
“Whatever you wish, my dear.” Elektra said, shifting so the both could lay down in the middle of the bed, facing each other.
There was barely any space between the two of them. Bodies so close but not yet intimately entwined. Karen stared deeply into Elektra’s eyes as Elektra caressed the side of Karen’s face. The low light gleaming from the nightstand reflected the shades of green in her eyes and Karen felt she could get lost in her eyes forever.
“How are you feeling?” she gently asks Elektra.
Smiling, she replies, “I feel like the luckiest woman in Hell's Kitchen right now.” As she moved to wrap her arms around Karen’s shoulder, their lips met in a sensual kiss. After a few, slow passes Karen enthusiastically picked up the pace. Elektra parted her lips and their tongues danced against each other.
Karen then moved to close the gap between them, slotting her legs in between Elektra’s. The soft curve of Elektra’s thigh felt wonderful against hers. She could smell the scent of Matt’s cologne and body wash that lingered on the bed sheets. That mixed with Elektra’s intoxicating scent left Karen heady with want. They laid like that, making out like teenagers for what felt like hours, before Elektra carefully pulled back and began to trace Karen’s lips with her finger. “Can I touch you?” Elektra asked, taking note of Karen’s blown pupils and heavy breathing.
Karen nodded yes and Elektra brought her in for a filthy kiss that left Karen gasping for air as Elektra trailed her hands down Karen’s back, deftly working to remove her bra. Karen shuddered as Elektra took off her bra, nipples hardening at the change in temperature. “You are absolutely stunning, my dear.” Elektra murmured before lightly cupping Karen’s breasts.
“Is this ok love?”
“Yes, Ellie.” Karen whispered as she adjusted to give Elektra easier access.
Elektra’s mouth dropped as she admired Karen’s perky breasts. She wanted to shamelessly ravage her but Elektra restrained herself. She did however bring her hands to Karen’s hips, squeezing them before gently teasing her way up Karen’s abdomen, admiring the way Karen’s already taught nipple hardened further.
Karen shuddered. “Touch me, please-anything.” Karen mewled.
Without hesitating Elektra leaned forward and brought Karen’s nipple into her mouth. She swirled her tongue around it before popping off with a wet smack. By now, Karen was alight with desire. Her heart was pounding and her blood buzzing through her veins. She leaned in to kiss Elektra and Elektra was drawn in by the energy pouring from her.
Karen deepened the kiss and pulled her skirt up just enough to be able to feel Elektra’s clothed thigh against her bare pussy. The sensation brings gooseflesh up her body.
Once settled into this position, she took note of how Elektra’s bare breasts felt against hers. The soft skin and hardened nipples brushing against hers had her brain in a frenzy. She so badly wanted Elektra to make love to her but also wanted to stay in the moment as is, rocking against Elektra’s thigh deeply kissing one another.
Elektra played with Karen’s breasts as they continued to make out. Karen heatedly brought her hands down to the waistband of Elektra’s pants. Just the tease of Karen breaking the seal had Elektra beginning to pant and she ground her thigh against Karen’s center. Karen’s moans caused Elektra to remove her pants before readjusting herself comfortably on top of Karen.
Elektra hovered over Karen before she leaned in and teasingly rubbed noses with her.
“I have an idea.” Karen whispered with a grin, grinding against Elektra.
“Hit me.” She retorts, playfully thrusting her thigh against Karen’s center. Some of her excitement rubs off on Elektra’s thigh.
“I’m really enjoying this. Honestly, I could do this for hours with you.” Karen admitted as she reached down to fondle Elektra’s breasts.
“I love the way your skin feels against mine. And your kisses are divine. There’s no race to an end with you. However, poor Matthew has been out there for a long time-”
“You needn’t worry about him, angel. I’ll handle him after I take care of you.” Elektra nips, the words not only affecting Karen but Matt too. He patiently remained seated in his chair, cock straining against his pants as he utilized his senses to enjoy the activities going on in his bed right now. Planning out what he would do when it was time to finally join them.
Karen gasped at the idea of Elektra taking care of her. “See that’s the thing. I was hoping maybe we could touch ourselves…together.” She asked, nerves causing her to chew on her bottom lip.
“I think that’s a lovely idea.” Elektra said as she leaned in to give Karen a gentle kiss before she moved to take off her panties. Once the garment was tossed to the side, Elektra knelt on the bed, sitting in between Karen’s spread thighs.
“Show me how you like to touch yourself, Karen.” Her voice dripped like honey as she spread her knees, giving Karen a view of her cunt.
Karen reached down with two fingers and began to run quick circles around her clit. Elektra watched for a few moments before meeting Karen’s gaze. She slowly caressed a hand down her body before bringing it over to cusp her pussy. Rubbing herself for a few strokes before spreading herself open with her fingers, revealing her wetness to Karen.
“All of that is because of me?” Karen asked, eyes blazing into Elektra’s?
”Yes and I can’t wait to have you.”
Elektra’s admission went straight to Karen’s pussy. Her arousal pooled on the bed, unknowing that she was laying on Matt’s side.
Karen spread her legs further as she felt herself getting closer. The coil in her belly was so tight and it was going to break loose at any moment.
Karen lay there, gyrating her hips, hand speeding up to match Elektra’s pace. Her excitement boiled over and her body stiffened as she came, reality splintering before her.
Elektra feverishly watched Karen’s pussy pulsate as she came, knowing her release was coming soon. She sped up the movements on herself before her shockwaves hit her. The sweetest moan Karen ever heard slipped from Elektra’s mouth as she dissolved into pleasure.
Once the last wave rolled through her body, Elektra relaxed her body, sitting down on the bed, pulling Karen’s calves around Elektra’s waist.
“Are you ok?” She softly asked Karen.
“More than. That was amazing, Ellie.”
After a few moments of comfortable silence, Karen asks, “What should we do about Matt?”
”Well, he has been a very good boy. I know hearing you moan for me must have been torturous. We should at least untie him for good behavior. If you don’t feel ready yet, I can give him a bit of a treat.”
“I like the sound of that.” Karen replied. “Do you think I can watch?”

Thoughts with Autumn
hello, world!
in celebration of my friend Matt's birthday, today we will be writing a blog post. As a self proclaimed connoisseur of connoisseur-ing- I have decided that this holiday be best celebrated by harshly and brutally judging the birthday man himself! So, here is the *definitive* list of ratings of ma.tt blog posts with brief explanations. enjoy!
We can go right ahead and start with Matt’s “Birthday Gift” blog post announcement itself. This post … I have mixed feelings about. It starts incredibly strong- two banger lines one after the other, the second being, ‘WHAT DO YOU GET THE GUY WHO HAS EVERYTHING?’ Like that’s a serve! But then as the reader continues... it’s just not that saucy… to no real fault of its own other than the simple nature of any 'announcement' type blog post. So I’m gonna rate this blog post 2/5. It’s fine. Low stakes. Got the job done. ⭐️⭐️
"Books 2020-2023." I like this post. I daresay I do. It’s short, it’s directly to the point. Matt admits his failings, lagging the last few years. It’s vulnerable. It’s two sentences. Right to business. Then we get the chronological list with links. No fluff. No “reviews.” Some bolded for emphasis. clean. smart. simple. easy. breezy. beautiful. covergirl. My only note on this post is I do think I would’ve appreciated some other notation for genre. ie. an asterisk for fiction, you know what I mean. But I respect this post. 4/5 stars. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
"What’s in My Bag, 2023." This was the blog post that first got me invested in this whole Matt blogging thing. I didn’t really know people blogged to be honest. In the day of super long captions on ig, twitter etc, … the blog … seemed like a fantastical art piece of legend. Not to repeat myself too much w/r/t the “Books 2020-2023” blog review, it’s clear that Matt’s style shines in list format. Something that spoke to me in this piece was the honesty- I genuinely believed that this all was in this mfrs bag. Like yeah. He’s got a heavy bag. Probably has back problems. This bag is simply too full. I got lost in the sauce a little with this post- scrolling down this journey of things I just never will get and never will seriously consider getting, but for one fleeting moment, imagining a life with. Fantasizing about having 3 phones with each associated slew of accessories. There were a few jokes that made me laugh out loud in this one. 4/5 only note is I think could have been minorly edited for brevity//a little slicing could make the whole piece more impactful. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
"Sunbird Security Isn’t Nothing." This is a very strong post. Explains simply for plebs like myself- educational for all levels of understanding- without lacking the classic Matt charm. Good use of the word “bamboozled.” Good use of directly weaponizing the reader @ apple. My only roast of this post is dude, get off Tim Cook’s dick. 4/5. good post. That last star I reserve for being truly jazzed so no hard feelings. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
"Text Joins Automattic." Another educational piece for the normie - for that I bitterly thank. Not too much to review. Good clean blog. smart. 3/5. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
"Wowza!" Bonus point in here for the mom name drop, cute, wholesome. “I feel like every cell in my body is charged,” lol ok relax… is he turning 40 this year or 140? But adds to the charm of this post. I like this blog a lot. Very genuine, very feel good, I love to feel the awe that Matt feels recounting this experience. This is what reminds me what the whole blog thing is about! Nice ! 5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
"Cost of Spam." I’m rating this terrible to no fault of matt's but that I simply don’t know enough in my regular life to have any idea what’s going on here. Something about twitter bots I guess. But yeah sorry 1/5 because of user error (Reader dumbness) ⭐️
"Do the work." Ok Aristotle. Like ok!!! This one is fun. Like are those the only 2 ways? A government or a boat? What about like making a souffle, with preparation and then prayer? What about like running a marathon, with pain and suffering and perseverance? Both can be successful too. I liked this blog because there’s room for further speculation and introspection. 4/5. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
"Preserving Harvard’s Blogging History." Immediate 1 star because ew Harvard. Just kidding. But 1 star because no spice, no pizazz. In the epic words of Miss Britney Spears, “gimme more.” 1/5 ⭐️
"Houston, we have a solution." I wouldn’t regularly review this one because I wouldn’t classify it as a legit “post” more so a caption for a separate piece of media, but the title made me stop and chuckle so honorable mention here. 5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
"I love WordCamps!" Back to regularly scheduled charm. Well written, well explained. Good chronological exposition. 3/5, 1 point docked because I was jealous I didn’t get to go to word camp. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
"Thirty-Nine." Closing off this blog with Matt’s 2023 edition of what started all this. Gonna roast the hell out of this one because, it’s the last one and also, because I can! Also, Matt asked for a blog so I’m gonna blog! This post, despite its intended personality, felt impersonal to me. Now that I’ve deeply immersed myself in Matt’s blogging history, I feel like I’ve come to expect a certain candor and closeness in his language and phasing that I’m not quite getting in this freshly 39 year old Matt. Good ref to the Foundation series. Way to flex the milli donation. Big baller shit. But wait I’m scrolling down… “All birthday posts:….” Oh my….. ok so I guess for Matt’s birthday next year I’m gonna have to review every one of his birthday posts. Or maybe I’ll do that for my birthday just for fun. 4/5, added a star because of the links to other years and I’m impressed with the consistency that Matt’s been blogging. Jeez Louise! 22 birthday posts. shooweee. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Happy birthday Matt! I’m bummed to not be in sf to celebrate this week but hope to do so asap! Capricorn legend. I’m inspired to blog now. “Thoughtumn” will live on thanks to you.
best,
aut🍂

Hi there! Tomb Anon here! How are you? I am not great today
I feel really bad if I'm being honest
My head is pounding, things hurt, etc
(there is no emoji that communicates a slow death)
I need to drink water but I am simply not going to, I don't think I drank any water yesterday either until I chugged a water bottle at 2 in the morning. Uh oh!
Completely off topic but can I request more pictures of The Boy? He is very adorable, I love cats so much
My parents hate litter boxes and I am allergic but I love little kitty cats
On a good note, I start doing theater pretty soon
I hate talking to people but I can hold my own on a stage, unfortunately it is probably a musical and I am too extremely anxiety ridden to ever sing on a stage so I will be tree #2
Yes, please ask Santa about killing me, I must know if the threats are over
Also, today I learned that pool drownings correlate closely with Nicholas Cage movies releasing, and since I am his tomb I figured I would share it with you (https://www.wnycstudios.org/podcasts/otm/articles/spurious-correlations)
Also, another thing to share with you, I have been watching watching videos of the kid books conservatives release and they are wild
One was called "Everyone Should Have An AR-15" or something like that and another one related being trans to an elephant wanting to be a bird because Culture The Vulture told the elephant that if it likes singing than it must be a bird. Absolutely disgusting
If you're enjoy laughing at conservatives attempting to harm your way of life I highly recommend the movie What Is A Woman. It is Matt Walsh asking gender studies professors to define a woman and then using editing to make them look dumb and then asking the same question to old transphobic white guys and using editing to make them look like educated geniuses
It is a terrifyingly hilarious film purely because of how bad it is
Sorry for the long one today
Yours truly,
Tomb Anon, The Tomb Of Nicholas Cage
oh boy, ok. that's not good, hope you feel better soon tomb! i don't drink water often either, but i can say what helps me is making sure it's iced with a straw?
yes!!! i will post more pictures of both of them, they are adorable and i love them v much
oh thats exciting! i never did theater, though it was an option. i have been in exactly one play in my entire life, and it was fun but also terrifying
i think you're safe
huh, that. that's uh. huh. ? what the. ???????. i don't. really know how to handle that. uh. neat, but also ??????
that is so fucking stupid. oh my- why. why are some people like this. just- what the fuck. its so unnecessary

Edit : Matt Murdock x fem!avenger!reader
Tumblr media
Summary: reader is an avenger who gets shipped with daredevil. And she's familar with all those TikTok videos of them together but made her mission to never let Matt know about them. Even if she would be more than happy to make them reality. It only takes two slightly nosy friends to slip that secret out......
A/N: reader hero name is Shadow. A snippet of her story is here and here.
@somest1 hope you'll enjoy that.
"Matthew."
"Karen." something was definitely on. She never called him by his full name unless she was going to drop him some news that she knew he was not going to like
"Do you know what TikTok is?"
"Vaguely. Is it that app when teenagers do some crazy dance?"
"Crazy dance?" Foggy scoffed "CRAZY dance? You my friend should really get educated on the latest technology news. tiktok is the place where you can express yourself freely, not only by dancing but also by creating edits of the people you know or fictional characters you like....." he started ro rumble, for a while unaware of his friends' shocked face expression." Sorry." only then he realised how he exposed himself "please, continue Karen."
"I'm actually glad for your little lecture, Foggy" she laughed "makes it easier for me to present my case."
"Present your case? You definitely spend to much time with us." Matt smirked "you became a lawyer rather than a journalist."
"It's useful at times." she shrugged "but if it ever were to happen I know Y/N would stop me. She uses a lot of modern words I never knew existed so my vocabulary is expanding in many fields."
"She has to be up to date with that. After all, she runs social networks and is in charge of the PR. No one would be interested in her company if she was using words like "thy" or "thou".
"Speaking of Y/n....."
"What did she do this time.....?" Matt sighed, seemingly annoyed but his ears became just slightly reddened at the tips. "And most importantly, does it have to do with her civil indentity or the Shadow one?"
"A little bit of both I suppose. She's been the object of interest of late."
"What interest?" now Matt was up, not realising that the mere thought of Y/N getting too much attention made his Darevil instict kick in. "I.... I need to stretch my legs...." he awkwardly tried to cover up for the mistake, both Karen and Foggy noticed.
"I didn't mean it like she's in danger or anything like that." Karen scoffed.
"And even if she was, she knows how to handle herself better than Dare...I mean, you, my friend" Foggy added. "She's an avenger after all."
"What is it then?" Matt insisted
"She's a role model for a lot of people. Teenagers. Kids. Who actually use the apps. And they make edits of her. Different edits. And....ships."
"What now?"
"A little edit with a pairing of people who the author believes are good fit." Foggy explained, quickly catching up where Karen was heading with her explanation. Oh, yes, he saw those little videos posted everywhere on the social platforms. I mean, how could he not, they were trending for a couple weeks not.
"Ok. And why exacly are you telling me this? It's not like I can or want to see them." Matt turned away from his friends so they won't see the look on his face. Meaning he actually had something to hide.
"Maybe you would be more interested in the matter if you knew who she's being shipped with....."
"That's her personal bussiness. I have nothing to do with it. Besides, I should be getting back to work, so if you excuse me......" he turned around on his heels and dissappeared in the office, closing the door.
"Foggy?" Karen looked at the other lawyer, silent cry for help in her eyes.
"Yeah, yeah, I know. For a lawyer, he can be one hell of an idiot outside of work not getting the hints. "
***
"Hey gyus!" Y/N peeked through the door to Nelson & Murdock law firm. Clearly she was already done with her civil work for the day and came to check up if her friends were still alive in that office. After all, it was hella late.
"Y/n! How nice to see you. I though you would be on your vigilante shit already." Foggy raised head from the papers he was burried in.
"Hush! Keep it quiet, Fog, will you? Can't risk getting my secret identity out. Besides, there's no threat outside today. I would feel itdue to my .... you know, powers" she waved her hands and a thread of shadow appeared. "And if anything happens, Kate and Peter would call upon me. Those two cannot work together, they are both chaotic....."
"I see." Foggy hummed.
"What?" Y/N frowned, feeling that there was something he was not telling her.
"Nothing!"
"You're one bad liar, Franklin Nelson." the girl sat on the chair on the opposite site of his desk and bored eyes into him "Talk."
"Stop doing this."
"I'm not doing anything."
"And who is a bad liar now, huh?" Foggy bridled "I can feel your.... shadows luring me."
"One thing, Foggy. I don't use them for such petty reasons, all right. I know better than to abuse them. My shadows can be a bit ... moody at times. It;s not a force to play around with. So, cross my heart, I'm not doing anything."
"You try to interrogate me in my own office!"
Y/N sighed deeply and rubbed her forehead.
"It's sad you see it that way, but I understand. Maybe we can have some take out instead. I bought some Chinsese." she motioned towards the huge bag, now sitting on the floor. Only now, Foggy realised the smells coming from the package. And the fact that he has not eaten for like 10 hours.
"You're heaven send."
"The upper might disagree with that."
"Foggy? Did you see the latest.... Oh, hello Y/N" Karen walked right into Foggy's office with the phone in her hands and smile on her face, probably due to the video she was watching.
"What put a grin like that on your face Karen?"
"Nothing."
"You two are in collusion with something, aren't you?" the girl rolled her eyes "fine. keep your secret. I will find it out sooner or later and ...."
"Something smells nice here...."
"And here he is. The third musketeer. Hello, Matt."
"Y/N." he muttered, gaze fixed on the floor like he was trying to avoid any possible contact with her, even if he could not see her "what's the scent?"
"New shampoo, I suppose? Do you like it?" she laughed knowing he had super sensing with things like this. "But seriously, I bought some spring rolls and dim sums. Figured you workaholic forgot about lunch. And probably breakfast. And probably yesterday's lunch."
"Did you bring....?"
"Your favourite noodles? Sure I did, Matty." she smiled and he reciprocated with the brightest smile Karen and Foggy has seen on him for the whole day.
"Shall we then?" Karen moved to sit by the table and her gaze crossed with Foggy's who only smirked knowingly.
***
It's been barely an hour since her arrival at the Nelson and Murdock when she jumped at the signal of her phone.
"Damn it! It's Peter" Y/N cussed
"Peter like that spider guy?" Foggy almost choked on his food "When can I get to meet him?"
"Sorry guys, seems like there is in fact an emergency tonight. And while I would love to stay, someone else I know is desperately needed out in the streets, so rain check?" she schmoozed hoping her friends would understand.
"Just go!" Karen waved her hands, already used to such situations.
"Wait. I'll go with you." Mat stood up as well
"Why?"
"I'm bored. I need some action." he shrugged and she smirked .
"Jealous of me getting more attention than you? You don't want me to steal the spotlight, right?"
"Were you thinking anything else?"
"You're just the devil of hell's kitchen, Matty. A local hero. Are you sure you're not beyond your pay grade, trying to deal with the Avengers?" Y/N raised an eyebrow, clearly trying to spite him.
"Young avengeers" he clarified.
"And that makes you even more out of the league." she smirked
"I see the open spot as a team leader. Maybe I should take that instead."
"Over my dead body, Murdock!"
***
Regardless of their constant bickering, Matt and Y/N made quite a good team. Even if they were both individuals, during the years they knew each other, they learned how the other thought and how to avoid a fracture and internal fights. And as much as they would rather die than admit it out loud, it was nice having backup from time to time. Or someone to tend to your wounds.
Did they trust each other? Yes, on some deeper level that only waited to be discovered.
Were they friends? Well, if you were to ask them that question both of them would say yes, but... something more was lingering. And now, after the fight, when the adrenaline was pumping, hearts beating rapidly and they weren't Matt and Y/N but Darededevil and Shadow, Murdock had less inhibitions about her being at his place, resting and getting patched up. Normally, she would just go back to her place, but this time, his apartment was closer and it was wiser to dissapear from the fight scene faster. She really had no counterarguments to that. So she made sure Peter and Kate made it home safe and now, she was just laying on Matt's couch in shorts and tank top, legs dangling freely over the armrest, fresh dressings on her abdomen and an ice pack on the shoulder.
"I actually had fun this time." she chuckled and Matt frowned.
"Dislocated shoulder and a knife to the stomach is fun for you?"
"Not as much as standing against the Chitauri, but yes, it is."
"Stop bragging, will you?" he rolled his eyes, grabbing her legs and taking a spot on the couch, so that her limbs were now resting on his lap. And it was strangely comforting and .... domestic.
"Bragging? Me? You know I would never. Just pointing out at some past events here."
"How old were you when Loki attacked New York? 5? You were not really fighting!"
"I was 15!" she huffed sitting up "And I was already a SHIELD agent! Where were you, huh? High school? I can absolutely imagine you as an awkward teenager "
"You know what..." Matt started but chiming of her phone stopped him from finishing.
"Ugh! I'm not done with you!" she squirmed and reached for the device checking who has the audacity to interrupt her fight with Matt.
"Who's that?" he asked.
"Why so interested all of a sudden?"
"Someone might have mentioned somethign about you getting attention on..... Tiktok?"
"Yeah, trust me, all the heroes and vigilantes do." she muttered
"You know about it?"
"For crying out loud, Matt." she moved her legs and sat up making him miss the contact "I work with the apps! No matter if I want it or not, I came across some of those videos. Some of them are really, really good, those kids have skills, but I try not to search for them. Sometimes you come across some things you wish you could unsee....." she tensed a bit at some distant memory
"I don't think I will have a problem with that" he smirked and her shoulders relax at the joke.
"I bet! It's Karen by the way, speak of the devil. She send me some link. Might be that thing she was watching in the office that got her smiling like crazy." without any hestitation Y/N opened the link and much to her suprised she was put through TikTok .
"She's spending work time on the Internet? Maybe I should reprimand her ..... Y/N?" he felt the change in the atmosphere when Y/N started the edit.
"Oh, no..... " she whispered muting it immediately so that Matt won't hear the music. Heat waves. Used as a soundtrack to her, i.e. Shadow's ship with Matt, i.e. Daredevil. However she was not fast enough.
Sometimes all I think about it you......
"Damn that fucking device!" she almost threw it across the room.
"What is it?" he asked suddenly getting a lot of mutually inconsistent vibes from her.
"NOTHING!"
"You can't lie to me, you know."
"It's nothing, Matt. Forget it." she exited the site, not wanting to see more and put the phone on the table. "Can we go back to our argument?"
"I....." Matt opened his mouth but once again her phone started to ring.
"Ugh!" Y/N cried and picked up.
"Looks like someone's addicted." Matt teased
"Shut up! Hello? Peter? Did you get home safe? Good. Me? Yeah, I'm fine, I'm hanging at Matt's place. You what? Ok, all right I guess." she covered the phone "he wants to go on speaker. You don;t mind, right?"
"Since when do you care about my opinion?"
"It's your apartment. Even I can respect the host boundaries if...."
"Do it. I like that kid."
"Mr. Daredevil?" Peter's voice came through
"Hey kid. You good?"
" Pretty fine."
"No troubles on the way?"
"No, sir. But I .... um..... Can I say something?"
"Keep it rational, Pete" Y/N rubbed her forehead. Parker was like a youger brother to her, but sometimes he acted like a total teenager. With all the worst things coming from it.
"I've been going through your fanpage, Y/N...."
"My what?" the girl raised her head, eyes widening. She knew about the videos and stuff but fanpage? "I can't remember appointing you the head of my personal PR!"
"Let him talk, Y/n. this is going to be fun" Matt slapped her leg playfully and she stuck her tongue at him.
"Um... thanks, Mr. Murdock. So like I said, I;ve been running....."
"And?" she was getting impatient
"I just gotta ask. Are you two together? Cause there are a lot of comments about how good you would fit and.... Y/N? Mr. Murdock?" poor boy was clearly discouraged by the silnce on the other side.
Fuck..... y/n thought. And to think that mere minutes ago she was fighting that Matt would not hear that song. Now it was out.
"Do they?" Matt dwelled, using his lawyer skills to trick the teen. "what exactly do they say?"
"For example......"
"Ok, this is enough. Thank you for calling Peter, this was extremely enlightening. I'm gonna hang up now, take care"
She disconnected, not sure how to act now. The best way out was probably to shrug it off, but since she was emotional before it might not work. However, being casual was worth a shot.
"Well that was a hell of an evening" she stood up and streched her back, a bit of skin showing. "I think I'm gonna head out to my place."
""Y/n" Matt grabbed her hand and made her spun. "Can you explain?"
"Explain what?" she took a step back but he followed "Peter's tosses? I think he's projecting, I swear I saw him hit his head during the fight and....."
"Did you know?"
"About his mental incapabily and wanton imagination?" she was trying so desperately to cover the heat she felt rising towards her cheeks, heartbeat picking up, hands starting to tremble.
"Y/N." his voice became soft, his touch lingering on her skin "Don't do this....." he brush a strand of hair behind her ear, so damn tenderly it made her shiver.
"Matt, I ......"
"Please, talk to me. Did you know?"
"I did." there was no point lying. He would know.
"Were you ok with that? with those videos? You mentioned seeing something you did not like and ...."
"I never consider any possibility of this becoming real...." she confessed "it was just a fantasty and ....."
"And what about now?' he whispered getting even closer
"Now?" she gulped "did anything change?"
"A lot. Now I know too."
"And?" she asked that question so quietly that it made her doubt if he even heard it.
"You should have told me sooner...." his hands wandered onto her waist pulling her close, slowly, carefully, giving her time and space to back out even if they both knew she wouldn;t do such thing. "Can I?" he brushed his lips over hers.
"Mhm....." she mummbled trembingly.
And when he finally closed the gap between them she wished she told him sooner. The way he was touching her, holding her close to him, kissing her..... It made her feel wanted. Loved. Not just as the Shadow, but as Y/N. She felt all. Happiness, relief, joy, sense of belonging, peace..... And a bit of fear and uncertainty if this was right. But that quickly melted away when he deepened the kiss and her hands instinctively moved towards his hair tugging at the roots making his groan.
"I think I'm gonna have to pay more attention to social sites from now on...." he pulled for air and rested his forehead on hers, one hand cupping her cheek, the other on the small on her back, preventing her from getting to far away.
"shall I remind you, you can't see....?"
"Oh, honey, I can imagine. From what I get that song from before.....?"
"Mhm. It was the soundtrack." she muttered "But you can catch up on it all later. Now, can you kiss me more? Please?"
"Don't need to ask me twice, baby." he smiled and captured her lips in his.

House of the Dragon Episode One thoughts as I watch:
I really like the two young girls so far they’ve been captivating and Matt Smith is promising as a creepy grooming uncle
Not sure I enjoy the… visuals?? It’s kind of uncanny valley. It both feels too real (because I can tell it’s a set) and not real enough (because I can tell it’s a set). Nothing wrong with the sets in question, just… disappointingly obvious. GoT had sets too (alongside a plethora of locations which gave it a valuable realism) but all the sets in Game of Thrones weren’t overly noticeable which meant they felt beautifully rich in terms of world building.
Also don’t like the editing style. Early GoT was frugal w/ editing. The dialogue took centre stage and actors were allowed to command a scene from beginning until end (unless there was a poignant reaction). So far the editing feels sporadic and unintentional. And certain camera shots feel a tad ambitious for no particular reason, which makes it seem indulgent. It’s all a little distracting.
The dialogue is actually good! Not word play levels that I expect, but contextually there isn’t much need yet. Not much politicking happening because there’s no real “enemy” whereas in GoT the enemy was everyone, so much politicking all the time. The dialogue, though clever, is very upfront (because the targs are unquestionable in their power). So it’s good. No need to distract ppl with so many cuts and weird shots.
Maybe they’re trying to distract from the sets?
It just feels a bit… modern? Staged?
A quick question: idk if it’s my tv or not, but like is the frame sped up? On my tv it all feels s little too fast in movement (sometimes tv offers a “hyper realism” thing and that might be messing w/ my experience)
There’s def a lack of proper intrigue. But I know that’s to come, so it’s fine.
Really it’s the visual part that bothers me.
Not sure I enjoy seeing Matt smith in a sex scene but alright
The girls are the best part for sure, and I know they’re the point of it all, so I do hope the writers aren’t sacrificing the intrigue of other characters for them.
Like imagine game of thrones if D&D framed Jon Snow as the main character from the beginning. It’d be boring af
I like seeing my guy from outlander here tho. Not enough variety in accents in fantasy and I appreciate it here.
NOT THE HORSE
I HATE JOUSTS
NO MORE HORSE ABUSE
Is it ok? It’s ok?
I wanna be grossed out by siblings being in love but like considering the family they’re in, it’s probably at warped attempt at normalcy. Like at least they were married to each other and not an aunt/uncle (or PARENT)
Ugh the “impossible choice” fucking starting to see this trend in film where men are shown to have to decide women’s lives during childbirth (obviously at sn attempt to humanise them and make them good “but in a bad position”) like honestly it’s the new “turning your wife’s death/trauma into your own for a plot point” like spareeee me the angst most men HISTORICALLY had no issue killing their wives
Oh fuck me he’s gonna kill her
Never mind he’s a bad person
Never mind it was gruesome
They didn’t frame it as a difficult choice or like “he didn’t have any other option” or “he’s still good actually because we cut away from it all”
Holy shit MAJOR trigger warning for a torture scene
Like sure yeah maybe they were both gonna die but the doctor clearly didn’t give af about the queen so I doubt there’s was much investigation for a better option (that saves her)
Wait so he has a son now
Oh the baby’s gone
I LOVE how Valyrian sounds 200 years before Dany
The rolllls
Small touch I really enjoy? The fires give off so much smoke and I’ve never seen it before in a show. Do they normally cgi it away?
Not sure I’m hooked, again, intrigue is missing, character across the board that are all thoroughly interesting, but I DO like our main contenders.
They did NOT just throw the Game of Thrones ending shade like that
They. Did. Not. Just say DANY was meant to get the throne (even if for a short while because I feel she’s only meant to have it to unite the realm for the battle and likely leaves/dies after, as an end to an age of magic).
Like the point of GoT was obvs that the politicking WASNT the point but it’s suchhhh vindication that Daenerys was magically destined to ascend the throne
I don’t care if you think Jon is an option - she was the mother of dragons not him
Doesn’t mean Jon doesn’t do important things during the war to come, or even become a king after Dany, as this show said a Targ w/ dragons is needed to protect the world from a position of monarchy - doesn’t mean that monarchy exists for very much longer after the war ends.
So TECHNICALLY she both WINS the game of thrones AND breaks the wheel
Coupled w/ the fact that they HIGHLIGHTED Dany’s name at the beginning
G RR Martin is practically shouting who becomes the head of Westeros during the winter war. (Again, not necessarily the PTWP, because this is a separate Targ dreaming, not the prophecy that Rhaegar became obsessed w/ but now I see why he became obsessed w/ it if he was given this info by his dad before hearing it).
Ahhhhhhh

Favorite Books of 2022:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay here's the positivity, I've split my list into New vs Rereads.
New:
Nona the Ninth, by Tamsyn Muir - not over it, obvious answer, what more is there to say?
In the Dream House, by Carmen Maria Machado - really clever and creative memoir, I'm currently rereading Her Body and Other Parties because I just love Machado's writing so much.
This Is How You Lose the Time War, by Amal El-Mohtar & Max Gladstone - fun fact I originally read this because I'd gotten it for my friend as a late Christmas present last year but then read it before giving it to her, so it was the only one of my top 5 that I didn't own. Until this Christmas when I got it from my brother who, and I quote, 'googled what you should read if you like that lesbian space necromancer series' which is also 100% how I picked it out for my friend and also 100% true.
The Secret History, by Donna Tartt - the seminal dark academia text, I read 300 pages in a single day and I am already planning on going as Murdered Vermont Farmer using things already found in my closet for next Halloween.
The Fifth Season, by NK Jemisin - oh my god this was so good. Both an excellent example of how good second person narration can be and how satisfying good plot twists can be. I 'guessed' this one early and was so gratified as it developed.
Crime and Punishment, by Fyodor Dostoyevsky - what an unexpected delight for a book I essentially read because of BookTok drama. In case you'd already forgotten, the routine Classics vs YA drama took an unexpected turn in January when the first shot about how the booktok girlies should read Crime and Punishment was parried with 'um Crime and Punishment is a YA novel actually', and lead to 1) at least one Booktokker trying to read it and gifting us with their angry annotations like 'omg why is this book so bleak and depressing' (it's Russian Lit, there are so many memes about this) and 'um is this book really about him murdering an old lady' (yes that's the plot that's on the cover what did you think the 'crime' was), 2) a solid year of jokes, 3) me reading it sincerely and really enjoying it. So thanks booktok!
Ok, now onto the Rereads:
1. & 2. Gideon and Harrow - yup I read these both twice this year, still faves, still cry every time, not over them either.
3. American Gods, by Neil Gaiman - always a favorite.
4. Station Eleven, by Emily St. John Mandel - This one for sure hit different after COVID, but is still so, so good.
5. Lord of the Rings - I really like my new 3 in 1 copy, it’s so pretty and drives home that these are really one extended story spread across 6 volumes rather than a true trilogy, so yeah I recommend a 3-in-1 edition if you are in the market for LotR books. It does make it rather heavy to carry around, but at least it’s paperback and I found this one wasn’t too hard to physically read.
Honorable Mentions: Dracula (Dracula Daily was THE MOST fun I had all year), The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova (takes place in the What We Do In the Shadows Universe you cannot take that headcanon away from me, Dracula is the #Drama, no notes, a worthy successor), The Only Good Indians by Stephen Graham Jones (excellent), The Midnight Library by Matt Haig (the amount of hate this book gets on Tiktok is unnecessary and kind of toxic, imo), Revenge of the Sith novelization by Matthew Stover (Stover, why are you Like This? Why?)
If anyone has StoryGraph and would like to follow me/be friends, I’m on there under bereft_of_frogs, so please feel free to friend me!
The #Salt (aka my bottom 5 books of 2022 and a little mini rant on each) under the cut:
2. Rule of Wolves, by Leigh Bardugo - Another really disappointing sequel that made me wish I’d stayed a Six of Crows duology-only girlie. Though I did really like King of Scars, specifically for the continuation of Nina becoming a necromancer and infiltrating Fjerda. That part really fell apart in this book. A lot of things fell apart. It honestly felt sort of like Bardugo just wanted to be finished with this universe? Because a lot of things were resolved in really weird ways and really quickly. It also felt like it lost some of the interesting nuance in the worldbuilding that SoC had. And of course, she really showed off how bad she is at portraying the passage of time in her writing with this one. I was given the impression by King of Scars that it was taking place months at most after the events of Crooked Kingdom, and then out of nowhere it’s actually been 2 years so Nina can totally move on! But it still never felt like it had been 2 years and I feel like the end of the grief narrative was really abrupt and I just…couldn’t get into the romance because of how rushed that resolution was. I hope she’s done with this universe, aside from whatever extra writing/retconning goes on with the TV series - or at least, I’m done with this universe aside from the TV series. In future rereads, I’ll likely stick to my unofficial trilogy of Six of Crows/Crooked Kingdom/King of Scars.

3. The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue, by VE Schwab - This book is SO HYPED and for WHAT? I’m a big fan of lyrical, plotless writing, but that means actually having lyrical writing and no plot. This book just decided to do all the plot in the last 30 pages. So it was like 70% meandering, 30% rushed weird romance plot? And I’m sorry, I will NEVER be over the ‘not like other girls’ feminism of the main character. You cannot convince me that she would not have been in favor of the French Revolution. She’s an anti-clerical feminist but as soon as the Revolution happens it’s like ‘ew those peasant women are too violent, fuck all of them, I’m getting out of here.’ It’s a prime example of the hollow historical feminist archetype that is luckily starting to get some critique, where the main character fits perfectly with modern ideas of feminism, without the author actually having to put that much thought into their actual principles and how that fits into the historical context.
4. Things Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke, by Eric LaRocca - This one was just bad. Read like a first draft. Went nowhere, said nothing.
5. Nothing But Blackened Teeth, by Cassandra Khaw - I almost put this together with the above, because I think they had similar problems. Really under-developed, but at least this one had good writing. It was beautifully written, it just…went nowhere. The characters and their relationships were really surface level, and the intriguing premise just…never really went anywhere. Both I think get more hype than warranted because they’re rather short and they have striking covers. Both I compared to short films that a young/student horror director would send around to short film circuits or use as film school theses while they were working on developing and funding the feature-length project, but unfortunately that’s just not how book publishing works so we’re not going to get to see the fully developed works.
Dishonorable Mentions: Dead Space by Kali Wallace (just finished it, the flattest characters I think I’ve ever encountered in fiction), If We Were Villains by ML Rio (I had this rated higher and then I actually read The Secret History and was like…oh my God, this is so much worse, what a poor imitation), Winter’s Orbit (I feel real bad about this one but…maybe I just don’t like romance, but I could not stand how 50% of the book was just miscommunication), Lost Stars by Claudia Gray (still got 3 stars, but I think this one is just overhyped. If you want to know what reading this book is like, just watch the original trilogy, pause at any major plot point, watch the ‘are we the baddies?’ Sketch and then continue on), What Moves the Dead by T Kingfisher (I also gave this one 3 stars, and I think it’s…really not that bad but I can’t stop thinking about the hubris of saying that you’re going to write a more fully fleshed out version of The Fall of the House of Usher and then add on a whole sub genre, 4 extra characters, another whole plot, and barely make it any longer)

“Do not for one moment assume that you know him.”
Part 1
Goode Rewatch week 45 - A Discovery of Witches season 2 - 2021.
So how do I sum up Matthew Roydon’s arc in episode 1 of season 2 - OK - here goes...
Matthew and Diana arrive in 1590 with a splat, luckily just around the corner from one of his old houses.  I mean what are the chances?  The trouble starts there really coz Matt, an academic in the present day, has to take up the threads of his old life when he was a VERY different person.
They meet Kit Marlowe (because of course they do) who is one of Matt’s oldest friends.  He dislikes Diana on the spot and is totally jealous of her coz he is 😍 over Matt.  Which is perfectly understandable - coz he’s Matthew Goode in leather, so who could resist?  Matthew introduces Diana as his wife and she is like WTF?
They meet Matt’s other close friends -  including Walter Raleigh.  Of course.  Matt explains their mission - to find a powerful witch to teach Diana and to find the magical manuscript.  In the meantime Matt enjoys showing his historian gf around 1590′s London until his past comes back to haunt him.
The problem is that it’s all 400 years ago - Matt doesn’t actually remember the details of what he was getting up to back then but he knows that it was all bad.  Very bad.  But the upside is that we get to watch Matthew get dragged back into his murky past.  Obviously this is pure fantasy but Matthew Goode makes it real and draws us in to the rollercoaster that was Matt’s life in 1590.

movie night (with the boys).
Tumblr media
a/n: hello! I’m river (or Lilly) and I’ve written like one thing on here and plan on writing more so! It’s nice to meet you all and I hope you enjoy this and what’s to come. Also be nice, I’m really rusty with writing.
warnings: fluff, I think that’s all.
edited: a little tiny bit
matt x fem!reader.
With the boys schedule being jam packed with various different meetings, events and video plans- you and Matt rarely found time to be together besides late at night when he came home, and early mornings when you woke up for work. Especially with Nate being in town, alone time was scarce.
But you and Matt finally found a sliver of time that you guys could have a small date at the house. Just a simple movie night with snacks, and neither of you complained, just wanting to be with the other for as long as they could.
“Ok, your pick tonight, what movie are we watching?” Matt asked as he jumped over the back of the couch and settled next to you, arm around your shoulders as you placed your head on his chest.
You tapped your chin as you thought for a moment, smiling as you looked up at the man next to you. “Tangled!”
Matt shook his head as he laughed. You always chose Tangled if the offer was on the table and he never complained, finding a sense of comfort from the movie ever since you two got together.
As Matt turned the movie on, and you both got comfortable with a bowl of popcorn next to Matt and various other snacks and drinks on the table, you both heard the front door swing open.
“No dude, you definitely cheated! I would’ve won both rounds if you didn’t do the stupid granny.” Chris complained as Nate and Nick followed behind him, scoffing and arguing back at the claim.
Matt groaned as he ran a hand down his face, annoyed at the intrusion and the fact that the group obviously didn’t listen to his pleads. “Oh my fucking- Can you guys be quiet or go somewhere else? I specifically told you guys to stay out so we could have a movie night!” Matt exclaimed as the three men stood in the living room, looking at the two of you together.
“Sorry, but we can’t bowl all night, plus Nick was bored so we just got a Uber back here.” Nate explained as he walked behind Matt and looked at the screen. “Ooh! You’re watching-“
“Tangled! Oh my god!” Chris said, rushing over to the other side of the couch, grabbing a blanket and getting comfy, already having his shoes off and eyes glued to the screen. You shook your head as you laughed at him, Nick soon invested as well as he sat down next to you and stole some of your blanket. Nate shook his head as he went to the fridge and got a Pepsi for himself and Chris.
“Ok, nice seeing you guys, now leave. This isn’t “date night plus the guys!”, this is date night with me and my beautiful girlfriend! Now fuck off!” Matt hissed out as Chris nodded along, yet not making eye contact once as for his eyes were still connected to the screen in front of him.
“But you have pizza! And plus i bet y/n doesn’t mind, right?” Nate asked after as he looked at you with wide eyes, full of hesitation and hope, slowly grabbing a piece of pizza from the box on the table.
Laughing at the situation, you shook your head as you leant into Matt’s embrace more. “The more the merrier!”
“Thank god, I’m already comfortable and I forgot how good this movie was.” Nick said as he leaned onto you for support as he grabbed chocolate that was already on the table.
Sighing, Matt buried his face into your neck, whining in annoyance as his brothers and best friend sat in the room, interrupting something he specifically told them not to.
“Love? what’s wrong?” You whispered at him, rubbing the back of his head as he nuzzled deeper into your neck and wrapped you up tighter in his embrace.
“I’m sorry. This isn’t how this was supposed to go. It was supposed to be only us, but these idiots always need to be involved with whatever the others have going on.” Matt whispered to you, placing a gentle kiss on your jaw as you smiled down at him.
“It’s ok baby, I promise. As long as you’re here, I’m good. They’re fun to have around…. when their not being annoying-“
“I heard that!” Chris commented, his eyes never leaving the colorful screen as the animated movie continued.
“She isn’t wrong.” Nick added, offering you a piece of chocolate you politely declined.
Matt sighed once again, and took in the scene. His younger brother on the edge of his seat, intrigued with a movie he’s seen how many times with his best friend next to him. The oldest leaning against you as he snacked on chocolate and made little comments at how hot Flynn was, which made all of you roll your eyes at one point. And finally you, snuggled up under the blanket with him, drowning in his hoodie you had slipped on earlier while he held you tightly.
Sighing, Matt melted into the couch cushions and placed a kiss on your head, accepting what has become of the date he planned.
“I guess this isn’t too bad.”

Chapter Fourteen
Chapter Fifteen
Syverson POV
“Fuck,” I muttered under my breath. I dropped my bag and looked at Liza. “Sorry, I just didn’t expect you to be here. You shoulda called.”
“I did, twice the last hour,” Liza said.
“I was driving,” I said, still staring at her. “You shouldn’t have let yourself in.”
“I was worried, Sy,” Liza said. She sounded sincere, and my anger softened. Lord knows there were times when I had needed to be worried about and she had helped me through it. “I just… I just wanted to make sure you came back ok this time.”
I nodded, “I’m ok. I mean, it was bad as all the other times, I just deal with it better now.”
Liza smiled, “That’s good, Sy.” She glanced towards Mika’s house and her smile turned into a smirk. “I see you found someone to help you… readjust.”
Despite myself, I laughed, “Hey lay off, before I start givin’ you shit about, what’s his name again?”
“Aaron,” she said warmly.
“Yeah, Aaron,” I said. “How’s that goin’ for ya?”
“It’s good. Really good.”
“I happy for ya, Liz,” I said. I meant it too.
“How’s things with Mika?” she asked. Liza pointed at my bags and said, “You two already spending weekends away together?”
“Yeah, but it was Matt’s wedding,” I said.
“Oh my God, I completely forgot about that,” Liza said. “How was it? What did Olivia wear?” I made a face and she laughed, “Of course you wouldn’t pay attention to what the bride wore.”
“I don’t even know where to begin, the whole thing was a shit show. If it were a movie people would say it was unrealistic.”
“Make me a cup of tea, Noah, you gotta tell me everything!”
So, we went to the kitchen, and I told her. “Wait, Mikaela and Matt? You’re shitting me.”
“Yeah,” I said. “I don’t know who was more shocked. But it gets worse.” I gave her the run down of events, leaving out the gory details of what happened between Mika and myself. I also avoided the virgin stuff, Liza didn’t need to know about that.
“Jesus, Noah,” Liza said shaking her head. “That is the craziest shit I ever heard.”
“Yup,” I said. We were quiet then, finishing our drinks. It wasn’t awkward, but it felt strange. She was my best friend in so many ways, she knew more about me than anyone. We grew up together, had always been there for each other. I guess I still cared about her in a way, but seeing her confirmed what I already knew, I wasn’t in love with her anymore. That part of my life was over.
As if reading my mind, Liza stood up, “Well, you seem good. I’m sorry I barged in. I won’t do it again. I’ll return the key if you want.”
“Nah, keep it for now. Ya know, in case of an emergency or somethin’.” I smiled at her as I walked her to the door and said, “Thanks for checkin’ up on me, you didn’t have to.”
“Of course, I did,” she grinned. “Looks like I won’t have to anymore though.”
I followed her out to the porch and we kind of stood awkwardly with each other, looking at our feet. Eventually I thought, fuck it, and gave her a hug. I think it was the right thing to do because she sighed, seemingly relieved. “I’m real glad you’re home safe Noah,” Liza said looking up at me.
“Thanks Liz,” I said and gave her a kiss on the cheek and let her go. “Now you best scoot, Mika is on way over any minute.”
Liza laughed, “I knew you would end up with her.” She looked over at Mika’s house and added, “She seems good for you. I’m happy for you.” She went then, waving as she got in her new car. I waited until she drove off before going back inside to wait for Mika.
I waited for over an hour and I started to get worried. I thought maybe Olivia had called her or something else had happened. I waited another fifteen minutes before I went to Mika’s house and knocked on the door.
I cursed as I knocked again a minute later. That goddamn woman needs to get a goddamn doorbell. After a minute I tried again. “Mika its me, Chicken,” I called out.
I heard movement inside and the door opened a crack and Mika mumbled, “Come in then.”
Confused by her attitude, I let myself in and caught sight of Mika in her pj’s with a crocheted blanket wrapped around her shoulders as she went to her loungeroom. I followed and she sat on her couch, pulling her legs up to her chest. “What do you want, Sy?” she asked sharply.
Stunned, I stood there blinking, trying to work out what was wrong. She looked mad, like really mad. I’d never seen her mad before. “Chicken, what’s…”
“You don’t get to call me that, Sy,” Mika interrupted, her voice full of venom. “Don’t you dare call me that.”
“What in the fuck is goin’ on?” I said back bewildered. “What the fuck happened?”
“Don’t play dumb with me.” Mika stood up suddenly, throwing the blanket off her shoulders. “I saw you.”
“You saw me what?” I asked, feeling dread rise from my gut. She didn’t have to say it. I knew what she was going to say
“I saw her.”
Fuck. I felt my shoulders slump. “Mika…”
“Stop Sy,” she said firmly. “I don’t wanna hear it. Get out.”
“Mika stop,” I growled, starting to get angry. This was not happening, not after something so innocent. “It’s not what you think.”
“Fuck you, Sy!” She came and stood in front of me pointing to the door. “Get out!”
There was no way I was leaving. No way in hell was I going to let her think for another minute that I would ever cheat on her. “Nothing happened Mika, there was nothing to see.”
“You kissed her!”
“I didn’t kiss… Wait, you mean that kiss on the cheek? That’s what’s got you all riled up?” I almost laughed at her. “You’ve got a jealous streak a mile wide if that’s what’s the problem.”
“Just leave,” Mika insisted.
“Goddamn it, woman. You’re not even listening to me.” I was frustrated now, I felt my nostrils flaring with anger. How could she think I would ever hurt her? “Do you think after everything that happened between us, I would let you go?” Mika turned away from me, I grabbed her shoulders and held her gaze. “Look at me Mika, do honestly think I would do that? You know me.”
I saw her soften, the fury left her eyes, but what replaced it was worse. Her blue eyes glistened as tears welled. “What was she doing there Sy?” she asked, her voice nearly broke my goddamn heart.
“She was checkin’ on me,” I said softly as I cupped her cheeks. “Sometimes when I come home, things are tough for me. Liza wanted to make sure I was doin’ ok.” A tear rolled down Mika’s cheek and I brushed it away with my thumb. “Yeah, I hugged her and gave her a kiss on the cheek. She checked on me and left. I’d say she did it as much for her benefit as mine.” I kissed Mika’s forehead and she let me, so I pulled her into a hug. “I wouldn’t do anything to make you want to leave me. I’ve waited so long for you.”
Mika was quiet as I held her but eventually, she put her arms around me too. I let go of a breath I didn’t know I was holding and pulled back slightly so I could see her face.
“I love you, Mika,” I said, the words spilling out before I could stop them. Mika’s eyes grew large. Oh shit, I shouldn’t have said that. It’s too soon, it’s…
Every coherent thought left my brain as Mika stood on her toes and kissed me. Her arms encircled around my neck, pulling me down to her as she kissed me with parted lips. Relief flooded me, my whole body felt on fire as I kissed her back.
When we pulled apart Mika’s eyes were alight, bright, and bold. Her fingers caressed my neck, and I couldn’t help the grin on my face. “I mean it, Chicken. I love you.”
“I know,” Mika said. “I’m sorry. I over reacted, I guess…”
“Hush,” I said. “’S alright, I get it. We good?”
Mika nodded. I grinned and bending over I threw her over my shoulder. She shrieked and giggled, crying out, “Noah, what are you doing?”
“Takin’ you to my place. You owe me another night and I suddenly think I could make it four times in one day.”
Three months later
Mikaela POV
Sitting on my porch swing enjoying the Saturday morning sun, I dropped my foot and pushed off starting a gentle rock. I balanced my toast on knees and sipped at my coffee. Glancing over at Noah I smiled and asked, “How’s it going there?”
Giving me some serious side eye, Noah said through gritted teeth, “Fine.”
I laughed and he glared at me, face like hellfire for a moment before I noticed the beginnings of a smile. He tried to suppress it but couldn’t. “Nah, it’s fine. I’m almost finished.”
“Well, your breakfast is there if you want it now,” I pointed to the small table where his coffee and toast was waiting.
“Are you seriously tryin’ to distract me with coffee?”
Smirking I raised an eyebrow and said, “If I wanted to distract you, I have better things to offer than food.”
“Are you offerin’?” Noah’s voice grew low and gravelly with a hint of a growl.
“Nope,” I said despite feeling a rush between my legs. “I wouldn’t dream of keeping you from your little project.”
Noah grunted, picking up his drill. “When I’m done, you’re gonna be so impressed, you won’t be offering, you’ll be beggin’.”
He started the power tool at the same time I said, “You wish.”
Noah pointed to his ear mouthing, “I can’t hear you.”
I waited until he stopped before I tried again, but as I opened my mouth, he started the drill again. I laughed and mouthed, “You’re an ass.”
Noah put his tools down and came over. He leaned over me and caged me in his arms, his hands resting on the swing, “You love me, though don’tcha?”
“You know I do,” I replied. Noah hummed and gave me a quick kiss. Then he lifted my legs, sat on the swing before placing them on his lap and grabbing his breakfast from the table.
“I was thinkin’, after breakfast I’ll grab the last of my boxes and bring ‘em over.” Noah said. “Then that’s it, I’m all moved out. I called Liza yesterday and told her I’d finished clearin’ out. We’re gonna see an estate agent on Tuesday and put the house on the market.”
“How is she?” I asked a little sheepishly. I still wasn’t over the way I had reacted the night we got home from Matt’s wedding. I blamed the stress of the whole weekend for my mind thinking the worst of Noah that night. It’s weird to look back on it really, and despite the worst parts of it, I do think of it often. I don’t know how it could be the best and worst weekend of my life, but it was.
Noah rubbed my leg and said, “She’s good. She said to say hi.”
“Do you need help with the boxes?” I asked.
“Nah, its mostly shed stuff. They don’t need to be unpacked yet either.”
Noah and I sat quietly a while we finished out coffees. Noah’s hands kept running over my legs. One thing that surprised me with Noah was how constantly affectionate he was. We never just sat together, he was always rubbing my leg or arm or back and when we went out, he held my hand constantly. I knew he was sweet, but I didn’t know just how sweet he could be.
When he had finished his coffee, Noah patted my knee, and I lifted my legs off him so he could get up. “Well, it’s all set. My contribution to the house,” he said. He puffed his chest out with exaggerated pride.
I chuckled and held my hands out to him. “I suppose I better take a look then, huh. See if your contribution suits my high standards.”
Noah took both my hands in his and helped me off the swing. Leading me over to the front door I saw the new doorbell he had put in. He had chosen it himself and insisted I don’t look until he had installed it. It was a sweet old-fashioned one that suited the rest of the renovations I had made. Standing behind me, he wrapped his arms around my waist and rested his chin on my shoulder. “Do you like it, Chicken? It’s kind of like the light switches you put in the rest of the place.”
I reached out and pressed the button, the shrill ring of the traditional buzzer made me jump, but then I laughed. Turning in his arms I reached up and put my arms around Noah’s neck. “I love it, Noah.” I kissed him, softly at first before the kiss deepened and I felt his tongue slide into my mouth, licking at mine.
“I love you, Mika,” he said pulling away, emphasising the you.
Grinning I pulled him close again and whispered back, “I love you, Noah.”

39?
39. youtuber you’ve been obsessed with and why?
Ok so!! I don't watch that many Youtubers but there are a few I like to have on or listen to when I'm drawing, and sometimes their videos are so good I have to give them my full focus too. Here are some recommendations:
Nitro Rad - Top-tier gaming youtuber. He's introduced me to a lot of obscure 3D platformers, indie games, and horror games (this last category I would never play on my own because I get scared too easily lol). I really admire his approach to analyzing games, wanting to see the positives in them, and trying to see where the devs were coming from even with ideas that don't work out in the end, rather than being exaggeratedly negative or dismissive for "entertainment". When he can't enjoy something at all, you know it must be really horrible, lol (see: Frogger- the Great Quest). He's really an inspiration for my own approach to how I interact with and describe games.
Defunctland - I know a lot of people know about Defunctland but I just have to echo the sentiment that Kevin manages to make everything interesting. So many times I've started the most recent video thinking "I can't possibly care about a Wiggles ride" or whatever, but I managed to be invested and eager to hear about the attraction's fate by the end. He turned an investigation into the four-note Disney Channel theme into a full length documentary that literally made me cry. I'm not a theme park expert but I do love them and find them fascinating and I've learned a lot about theme parks and related topics from these videos.
Matt McMuscles - the What Happened series is always fun and has taught me about the dev histories for a lot of notorious games (and even some good ones!) and how rough and messy the game industry is behind the scenes. Like Nitro Rad, he tries to give credit where it's due; he investigates when "bad" games are the result of crunch, low budget and bad management to help banish myths about devs being simply inept or lazy. But I also really love his "The Worst Fighting Game" series! I don't know much about fighting games myself but it's just cool to see someone analyze something they're so passionate about!
Designing For - ok I'm biased because one of the writers and the person who does the voice-over is my friend, and I've done some art for the channel and even a vocal cameo, but seriously they do amazing work and I'm always super pleased to see their work spread around. They put out a decent-length Donkey Kong video for EVERY DAY this past December and all of them were varied and interesting!! Their analysis is great, and their editing is frenetic and hilarious- so I never just listen to these, I always give them my full attention.
These aren't the ONLY youtubers I watch or anything but they're my favs that come to mind right now.

Summary: Matt agrees to help Sylvie babysit a 5-month-old Brian Cruz for the night to help Chloe and Joe out, and gets a glimpse at a life with Sylvie he thought he could only ever dream of.
Words: ~5.5K
Warnings: None?? It’s just pure baby fever and heart eyes and canon-compliant established Brettsey
Tagging: @fighterkimburgess Cíara, this one’s for you. I hope you enjoy your much anticipated gift— and some very long, plot-less tooth rotting fluff :)
A/N: I don't know what this is and I'm pretty sure I zoned out while writing this so let me know what you think of this because this is the least edited thing I've ever written lol
“Please don’t be mad at me.”
Matt’s in the locker room at the end of a tiringly long shift when he hears Sylvie’s voice coming from behind him.
Their shift has been filled with an endless amount of intense calls. House fires, a harrowing ambo call according to Sylvie, car crashes galore. He’s more than ready to go home and enjoy his next few days off. He and Sylvie had even agreed to make tonight a date night, staying in with a bottle of wine and watching a movie (or, in their case, not watching a movie). It makes him even happier to be done with this shift. Just a regular, normal, peaceful night.
That’s what it’s supposed to be, at least. Only he hears his girlfriend’s voice and, instead of its usual soothing effect on him, is filled with something tense and nervous. He turns around and lo and behold, Sylvie’s standing in front of him with a perpetual wince.
“Why would I be mad at you?”
“I may or may not have told Joe and Chloe I’d babysit Brian for them tonight,” she explains nervously, her palms stretched out flat against each other. “Which means I’m going to have to take a raincheck on that date night we’d planned.”
Matt instantly finds it hilarious that she’d been so worried to tell him about it. “Sylvie, it’s fine,” he assures her. “Date night can be any night, we’ll just postpone it for another day.”
“Really? You’re not bummed out?” “I’m extremely bummed out,” he corrects her, his hands flying to her arms and rubbing circles on them gently with his thumbs. “But I’m not mad. I just wanted to spend time with you after a long shift, that’s all.”
“I know,” she sighs. “I’m sorry. Joe just kept going on and on about how he and Chloe haven’t had a minute to themselves since the baby was born and I just remember thinking how, if that were you and I, it’d make me really sad not getting to have a night off with you.”
Matt swears his heart melts right then and there. Sylvie’s compassion is pretty much endless but when she mixes it with that adorably longing look in her eye, and with words like that? Yeah, Matt’s a total goner.
Things between him and Sylvie have been going so great. They’re going on six months and not a single day goes by where he doesn’t feel like the happiest guy in the world. He knows tonight is one of their only nights off between shifts and he’d prefer not to have to share her quite yet during those nights but Joe and Chloe are their friends, Sylvie was right to offer them a kind gesture.
So an idea forms.
Matt’s always been good with kids, he’ll never complain at getting the chance to look after one. Especially not when it’s with the woman he loves. Besides, he sort of loves the idea of spending the night watching Sylvie gush over Brian Cruz. She was sort of adorable with Amelia, he can only assume it will be the same with Brian.
So much for a normal, peaceful night. (Although frankly, Matt thinks normal is overrated.)
“What if I came with you?”
“What?”
“Yeah,” he nods. “What if I looked after him with you? I’m sure Joe and Chloe wouldn’t mind, I’d be more than willing to give you an extra set of hands.”
She gives him a puzzled, slightly skeptical look. “So you mean to tell me,” she starts, “that you want to spend one of your few nights off in between shifts babysitting a screaming, crying, spitting five-month-old baby, just… because I am?”
“That’s sort of the idea, yeah,” he chuckles. “I’m good with kids, I can handle a little spit-up. Besides, I’ll take any time I can get with you.”
Ok. So maybe that was a little cheesy. It still rings true nonetheless. Spending time with her in any capacity is good enough for him-- and he has a feeling this will be a lot of fun.
She seems to think the same thing too, and smiles sweetly at him. “How did I get so lucky?”
“You just are,” he shrugs amusedly and leans in to kiss her soundly, sinking into it for a minute before he realizes he shouldn’t get carried away when they’re in the locker room. He’ll save the PDA for Stella and Severide. When he pulls away, she moves to pick up her bag and shut her locker, the two of them ready to leave. “So I’ll pick you up then? What time did they want you there?”
“5:00. But I should warn you,” Sylvie warns teasingly with a pointed index finger. “I will be singing a lot of Wiggles songs. It will not be sexy.”
He lets out a chuckle from deep in his chest and Sylvie returns the laugh as she heads out of the locker room and to her car. Even when she’s gone, Matt can still feel himself smiling like an idiot.
Like he said: Sylvie Brett makes him feel like the happiest guy in the world.
“Hey. You’re in a good mood.” Matt’s about to get his own bag and leave when he turns around to see Severide coming into the locker room.
“Yeah, well, I’m on babysitting duty tonight,” he explains. “With Sylvie. Joe and Chloe needed some time off so she volunteered and I thought I’d tag along.”
“Uh-oh,” Kelly teases. “I sense a little baby fever coming on.”
“What? No, Sylvie’s not baby-crazy, it’s not like that.”
“I’m not talking about her,” Severide explains. “I’m talking about you.”
“Me?”
“Yeah, you. You’re a sucker for kids, man. You’ve wanted them for as long as I’ve known you. You’re going to have that little pipe dream back in your head by the end of the night, I’m telling you,” he warns, a shit-eating grin on his face.
“I’ll be fine,” Matt grumbles in response. “I think I can handle one night of babysitting. Besides, we’re just helping Cruz. Kids are something for down the line. Way down the line.”
“So you have thought about it,” Kelly replies victoriously, raising a single, cocky eyebrow.
“What about you and Kidd, huh?” Matt knows deflecting won’t work forever, but he’s not ready to admit to himself that he has thought about it, nevermind Severide. So switching the subject back onto his best friend seems like the safe option. “You’re the ones who are married now. You two haven’t thought about having kids?”
Kelly bites his tongue, blushes slightly. It’s a rare occurrence for him, but one reserved uniquely for all matters related to Stella. “Maybe,” Severide shrugs. “But we’re not talking about me, we’re talking about you.” Matt huffs, picking up his bag and shutting his own locker. “I can handle myself. I was just giving you a heads up in case you wondered why I wasn’t at the loft. I’ll be fine, I promise.”
Matt heads out after that making a beeline for his truck before anyone else can question him about this.
Severide doesn’t know what he’s talking about. He and Sylvie are enjoying their time together right now, taking things at their own pace. Matt’s not about to ruin that for some fantasy he had that’s slowly dissipated. After all, what’s the point in wanting kids if you don’t have someone you want to have them with? After Gabby, he’d given up on that until what was once a pipe dream became something completely irrelevant and blurry in the back of his mind. Besides, six months of dating is a little soon to be thinking about that. There’s about a million steps they have to go through first, a million milestones before kids would be in the question. So yeah. He and Sylvie are not in any rush. For now, Matt is perfectly happy to be able to wake up to her for as many mornings as he can. Just him and her. That’s always going to be enough for him, no matter what. His small fantasies are a thing of the past.
At least, that’s what he tells himself as he drives home to the loft and gets ready to pick Sylvie up. He repeats it over and over until eventually, it doesn’t feel like a lie anymore.
********
When Sylvie hops into his truck, she’s wearing jeans and an old graphic t-shirt. She figures it’s best to wear something she won’t mind dirtying a little. She explains this to Matt when they’re in his truck and he nods thoughtfully at her smart thinking. He even leans over to kiss her on the cheek while waiting for one of the traffic lights to turn red. Only then does it truly register in Sylvie’s head about what they’re doing tonight.
They’re really, truly, spending an entire night together with their friend’s adorable baby.
She really hadn’t expected Matt to offer his help tonight. She doesn’t need the help-- Sylvie knows her way around a five-month-old, after all-- but he’d offered it anyway which somehow makes it even sweeter. Joe and Chloe had been more than okay with it. There’s no one more decent and reliable than Matt Casey, after all. Together, Brian Cruz is guaranteed to spend the whole night being showered with love. She’s sure of that, so she’d obviously been thrilled to have him tag along for babysitting. Until the weight of it all sinks in, that is.
Things between them have been going so great. It’d taken them longer than she’d hoped to sort out their feelings but it’d made the release all the more satisfying. They’re here now, together. And even though they’re only six months into this relationship, she knows that she’s never backing out. This is it; for both of them. It adds an extra layer to her happiness, knowing that everything she does with him will be her last firsts. It’s wonderful and beautiful in all the best ways. They’re still fairly early on in their relationship though. She doesn’t have an exact plan for the future-- it’s the only thing she can’t plan out thoroughly, unfortunately-- but she knows six months is still fresh in the grand scheme of things. And whereas she thinks a kid or two might be nice, it’s still too early to have a conversation that’s that detailed with him. Up until now, she’d been perfectly fine avoiding that talk. Now though, it’s going to be the big, plus elephant in the room. They’re getting a glimpse at what it would be like to have a kid together. It seems silly, but she’s almost scared to let her mind wander.
She goes over it in her head quietly in the car. It’s not a big deal, she reminds herself. They’ll just look after Brian, have some fun, and put him to bed at a reasonable hour. And most importantly, under no circumstances will daydreaming about their future be allowed. Ever.
They reach Joe and Chloe’s house and Matt takes her hands as they reach the front door. She’s been quiet the rest of the car ride, ever since he kissed her on the cheek. She’d gotten so preoccupied reminding herself not to get ahead of herself tonight that it’d picked up his attention, but she gives his hand a gentle squeeze as they wait for Joe and Chloe to answer the door and he smiles, thinking nothing of her quiet mood.
“Hey,” Joe greets them when the front door finally opens. His face is beaming, and it really dawns on Sylvie how excited he must be for tonight. He and Chloe haven’t been out of the house for weeks, never spending more than five minutes alone without baby Brian Cruz. “Come on in.”
Sylvie flashes a friendly smile and lets go of Matt’s hand to step inside, looking around the place. Chloe’s putting her earrings on in the mirror, preparing the finishing touches of her date night outfit. Which, in Sylvie’s opinion, is gorgeous. Saying her friend looks amazing is almost an understatement. “Don’t you look fancy,” Sylvie teases from behind Chloe. “Sylvie! We’re so glad you two were able to make it,” Chloe cheers, leaning in to give Sylvie a tender hug and then doing the same for Matt. “Thank you so much for this. We owe you one.” “Don’t worry about it,” she hears Matt speak. “I think we’re both just happy to lend a helping hand, right?”
He looks to Sylvie with raised eyebrows, and she nods in agreement. “Yes, we really are. You two seriously deserve some time off.”
“You’re right about that,” Joe nods. “I thought being a firefighter would mess with my sleep schedule but it’s nothing compared to this kid.”
“Where is Brian anyway?” She asks.
“He’s in his crib right now, hang on,” Chloe tells her, stepping into the room next to them and pulling Brian out of his crib. The little boy sits perfectly against his mother’s chest, his feet dangling slightly. He’s wearing a onesie too, the light blue fabric covered with little robots. It’s quite possibly the cutest thing Sylvie’s ever seen and she has to fight back the urge to coo at him.
“Say hi to Auntie Sylvie and Uncle Matt, sweet cheeks!” Chloe coos to her son, grabbing his tiny hand and waving it at Sylvie and Matt for him. He can’t talk yet but he flashes a smile at them and it melts Sylvies heart. Man. Tonight is going to be amazing and yet so tough to get through. “So there’s fresh formula in the fridge but we just fed him so he should be fine for the night. His toys are all laid out on the floor if he needs tummy time and we normally put him to bed at 7:00. If there’s anything you guys need or any questions, just call us. We’re bringing our phones with us and the number for the pediatrician is on the counter just in case,” Joe explains to them.
“Got it,” Sylvie nods.
“Ok,” Chloe nods to herself, handing Brian over to Sylvie. The small boy fits just as nicely against Sylvie’s chest but he tries to turn his head as soon as she holds him, urgently looking for his mom. Chloe stands back, staring at Brian nervously. “I gotta go now, buddy. I’ll see you later.”
“It’s harder than you expected, isn’t it?” Sylvie asks her, already well aware of the answer. Leaving your kid with a sitter is tough, she imagines, especially when it’s your first kid.
“Yes,” Chloe admits, slightly pained. “I know it’s only a few hours but we’re going to miss him.”
“We’ll take good care of him, we promise,” Matt assures them, already moving closer to Sylvie to see Brian and let his tiny hand wrap around his thumb. “Thanks again you guys,” Joe nods appreciatively.
“Of course, anytime. Now go on, have fun, you crazy kids,” Sylvie teases.
“Alright, bye!” Chloe keeps waving until their front door is fully shut, leaving Matt and Sylvie in total silence.
Matt glances at Sylvie up and down, taking in the sight of her with baby Brian, and something in his eye lights up. It sends a warm tingling down Sylvie’s spine, but he just nods at her. “He really is a cute baby.”
“I know,” she raves instantly. “Look at how small his little hands are!”
“You’re just so tiny, aren’t you, little buddy?” Matt talks to Brian, wiggling his hand.
Brian giggles, his arms wiggling amusedly at Matt’s gesture. He looks over at the front door though, waits expectantly for Chloe and Joe to come back in. A few seconds pass where Matt and Sylvie watch as Brian stares at the door. It’s almost as if everything that happens next happens in slow motion. They watch as his face turns back to Sylvie, his twinkling eyes turning sad as his face sours. The wail comes next, matched with flailing arms as Sylvie feels his body shaking in her arms.
He’s not hungry, Joe said he and Chloe just fed him. And he can’t be tired since they haven’t done anything with him yet. So really, he just misses his parents. It’s not all that abnormal for a kid his age but it still hurts Sylvie’s heart, watching this little guy wail in her arms.
“Oh no,” she blurts out, slightly panicked. “Shh, it’s okay! We’re right here. I know you miss your mommy and daddy but they’ll be back soon, I promise.”
He continues to wail, sticking his hand out and wiggling to try and get to the front door. “Who am I kidding, you don’t understand what that means,” she mumbles under her breath, beginning to bounce him.
His wailing isn’t as shrill after the bouncing starts but he’s still crying at a volume comparable to 61’s sirens. She tries her best to calm him down but it seems unsuccessful. Dammit. Sylvie and Matt aren’t five minutes into this night and Brian’s already crying.
The reminder that Matt’s there is enough to snap her out of it. Only she turns to where he was not five seconds ago and he’s gone. “Matt?”
“I’m in here, just a second,” he calls from the family room. Sylvie moves down the hallway away from the entrance to find him. When she does, he’s hovering over a small, wooden chest and rifling through it. Brian’s still crying as she pats his back and offers soothing hushes.
“I think we just broke Cruz and Chloe’s baby,” Sylvie tries teasing, her face still making a worried wince. “Shh, it’s okay Brian. You’re okay, it’s okay.” Matt grabs something out of the chest, moving to close the space between him, Sylvie and Brian. “Here,” he tells her, revealing the little, plush blue and green robot in his hand. “I figured a toy might distract him.”
“Right, good idea,” she nods, turning to meet baby Brian’s eye again as he grabs a fistful of her hair. “Uncle Matt has some of your toys, you want to play with them?”
Sylvie turns him so he can see Matt, who extends the soft plush robot and wiggles it playfully.
“I bet you like that one, huh? He even matches your pyjamas,” Matt points out.
Brian instantly becomes mesmerized with the toy, his eyes sparkling as they follow it’s trail as it moves in the air. His cheeks are still glossy with tears but he sticks out a hand to clumsily grab at the toy. The shift from upset beyond consolation to pure fascination with something so simple as a toy robot is enough to astound Sylvie-- and, admittedly, send relief washing through her body.
As soon as her shoulders relax, she feels Brian relax in her arms too. He even smiles as she wipes his cheeks clean of the tears, pointing towards the toy and cooing incoherently. Matt keeps wiggling the toy and bobbing his head along with the toy, eventually handing it to Brian and letting him play with it on his own. He squishes the robot’s rectangular head, then mimics Matt’s movements with it and moves it around in the air. Sylvie watches in happy surprise. She’s about to move her head to send a bewildered yet appreciative look at Matt but when her eyes look up, he’s already looking at her. There’s a slight twinkle in his eye, similar to the one Brian had when he saw the robot. It’s nothing but pure wonder, and her heart skips a beat.
Up until now, she’d been trying to keep herself from getting ahead of herself. Apart from the logical reasons of it being really early and soon on in their relationship, Sylvie also just doesn’t want to freak him out with baby fever. But he’s staring at her as she coddles Brian, a smile dancing over his face, and it seems pointless.
Maybe she’s not the only one picturing them doing this with a kid of their own.
Maybe, he’s just as much of a daydreamer as she is.
********
Matt’s not trying to give himself away too much. He swears he isn’t.
But damn. If Sylvie with this little Cruz baby isn’t the most adorable thing he’s ever seen, he doesn’t know what is. It’s been an hour since they arrived at the Cruz residence. An hour since they’d walked in and immediately had to deal with a screaming, crying baby Brian. Thankfully, they mellow out pretty quickly after that. Matt and Sylvie pull out as many toys as they can and try to distract him. His tears dissipate as they play around, keeping the young child preoccupied.
Sylvie, as promised, even starts dancing and singing Wiggles songs. Matt started out singing and dancing with her but Brian had tried crawling away while they were both up so he’s now sitting next to Brian, who’s on his stomach on his mat in the family room propping himself up to watch the show as Sylvie keeps dancing and singing.
“The Big Red Car rolls along the street
And to all the people that we meet, we like to say hello
Say hello! To the people that we meet!”
Sylvie sings, spins around, and does comically dramatic gestures as Matt claps along with Brian, making a few sound effects himself to help out with the number. The songs are too catchy not to sing along, so he does. That just seems to make the baby giggle even more, and he tries crawling over closer towards Sylvie.
She finishes the song and does small but amusing jazz hands, practically out of breath. “That was exhausting,” she exhales heavily. “How’s that for entertainment, little guy?”
He coos and waves his arms around in the air, trying to cheer for her. Matt chuckles and claps along himself, keeping an expectant eye on Brian.
The baby keeps wagging his arms though, and when they realize he’s asking for an encore Sylvie leans over with her hands on her knees in exhaustion. “You want more of this?” She addresses Brian, not expecting a response. “We’ve been at this for nearly an hour, I’m getting more of a workout from this than from Foster’s infamous spin classes. How is he not more exhausted?”
“Different sleep schedule, I guess,” Matt shrugs. “Don’t worry, you can tap out and I’ll take over.”
“More romantic words have never been spoken,” she replies teasingly with a relieved groan. She wipes at her brow and moves to find space on the mat but instead of the encore, Brian turns to her.
“Oh,” Matt says. “Looks like he doesn’t want more singing and dancing after all.”
The young boy starts reaching for Sylvie’s hair, grasping at the blonde strands that fall just above her shoulders. He manages to find a fistful but Sylvie pulls him in closer so he can grab her hair without yanking it. “I think he likes you,” Matt points out with a grin. “Good, my plan is working,” she teases, resting her head ever so lightly on Brian’s head. “I’m hoping to work my way up to his favourite aunt by the time he’s two. I’m going to be your favourite, aren’t I, little man?”
Brian coos in her lap, smiling wide at Sylvie. But he looks over at Matt and reaches out from Sylvie’s hold to grab at Matt’s hand too. Matt’s heart melts.
“He seems to like you too,” Sylvie adds.
“Yeah, I’ve never met a baby with so much trust in people,” Matt replies. “And so many robot toys too. What’s up with that?” He gestures at the spread of robot toys they arranged in a row on Brian’s mat.
“I think Joe was hoping he’d get him interested in tech stuff like Otis was,” Sylvie explains, a wistful sigh falling over her. Matt gets serious too-- not a day goes by where he doesn’t think of their dear, fallen friend. Thinking of where Brian Cruz gets his name from is always a sharp reminder of Otis, and this new piece of information doesn’t make it any better.
Matt throws Sylvie a sympathetic look, which is returned. There’s nothing much to say to that, nothing but to let there be a gentle and solemn moment of silence as Brian wiggles in Sylvie’s criss-crossed legs on the floor.
The silence is broken when he crawls out of Sylvie’s lap, slowly finding his way to Matt. Somehow, some way, he can sense Matt’s heavy heart and reaches to grab his hand. Brian doesn’t try to lift it, just puts one hand around Matt’s thumb and one around his pinky. He looks up at Matt, his eyes twinkling energetically.
“I bet your mom and dad tell you all sorts of stories about Uncle Otis, don’t they?” Matt asks as he lifts Brian into the air. He giggles, waving his arms and toes in his little onesie. Matt knows the kid can’t talk yet but he takes that as a yes. When Matt brings him back down from the air, he presses a kiss to the kid’s forehead and pulls back with the small smack of his lips. It makes Brian laugh even more.
Man. He really is a cute kid. Maybe Severide was right, maybe Matt’s already feeling that little pipe dream of his coming back. Because he’s sitting there with this tiny little kid in his arms, having the time of his life as Sylvie watches them amusedly, and it feels like he’s getting a glimpse at their future. The idea of a family, one with someone he loves as much as Sylvie, feels so right. It’s enough to send a warm and electric feeling throughout his body.
“This is fun,” Matt admits to her, meeting her eye with a hesitant but hopeful gaze.
Sylvie pulls her lip in between her teeth, fighting a smile. “Yeah, it is,” she nods. “It’s nice, I’m glad you offered to tag along. It’s like a little test run.”
“Test run?” Her eyes widen slightly and her cheeks heat up ever so slightly, to the point where Matt thinks he imagined it for a second. “I-- I mean, for babysitting,” she backtracks, shaking her head. “You know, if Joe and Chloe decide somewhere down the line that they need more nights out.”
Matt’s heart skips a beat.
Sylvie’s a terrible liar. She knows it, he knows it, all of 51 knows it. He can tell when she’s fibbing. She gets all flustered, fumbles her words just like she is now. Only now, he can see right through it and it excites him beyond comparison. He can see it in her eyes: she’s been thinking about kids just as much as he has.
“Right,” Matt chuckles lightly, going along with it. “For babysitting.”
She knows he can see right through him and sucks in a sharp breath. She looks more hesitant than he does now. “I don’t know, a kid or two might be nice somewhere down the line,” she admits nervously. “Right?”
“It would,” he replies softly with a smile. “I’d be lying if I said I haven’t thought about it once or twice tonight.”
“Really?” When Matt nods, she smiles and her shoulders relax.
“Well Severide said I should probably keep that to myself but I don’t care.”
“I don’t want you to keep it to yourself,” she tells him firmly but kindly. “You, Matt Casey, are always allowed to share what you see in our future with me. Okay?”
“Okay,” he nods happily. “I guess this test run isn’t so bad then, is it? If we’re on the same page about things.”
“No, it isn’t.” Her eyes light up and it’s all the confirmation Matt needs that he’s not alone in his baby fever. Their eyes stay fixed on each other, a soft and exciting tension washing over them.
The moment, however, is interrupted by Brian. He’s still in Matt’s arms but Matt suddenly hears what is probably the quietest, cutest yawn he’s ever heard come from Brian’s mouth.
“It’s getting late,” Sylvie realizes.
“Yeah, his bedtime was…” Matt checks the clock and his eyebrows immediately shoot up. “Twenty minutes ago?”
Sylvie looks at the baby in Matt’s arms, surprised. “You really had a lot of energy tonight, didn’t you? You were dancing past your bedtime, little buddy!” “Well I don’t blame him, your performance was very entertaining,” Matt muses. “Maybe a little too good,” she realizes with a giggle. “Come on, let's put him in the crib.”
“Aw come on,” Matt pleads. “Just a few more minutes? I don’t think he wants to move.”
“You are a bad influence, Matt Casey.” Sylvie shakes her head amusedly. She soaks in the sight though and can’t resist. Brian is draped over Matt's chest, his head now resting on his shoulder as his eyes flutter tiredly. Matt’s hand covers the little boy’s entire back, rubbing circles on it gently as he stabilizes the boy. Sylvie bites her lip for the second time that night and Matt knows she’s going to concede. “He does seem to be comfortable there though,” she counters reluctantly.
“Very comfortable,” he corrects her. What can he say? He just wants to sit in this little fantasy of his for a little longer. He so rarely lets himself hope like this that it feels almost necessary to extend this for as long as possible. Besides, Brian Cruz is adorable, it’d be crazy if he didn’t think of a kid of his own-- at least a little-- while he’s here. “I, however, am not.”
“Well here, come up to the couch. That’ll be more comfortable for the both of you,” she tells him, her voice now hushed and soothing so as to calm Brian down and not interrupt his process of slowly falling asleep.
Matt carefully gets up and shifts onto the couch, Brian still in his arms. He leans back and lets Brian sprawl out against his chest. The boy is light, no more than 15 pounds, but it’s still enough to put a light pressure on Matt’s chest.
He doesn’t mind. In fact, it’s the opposite. He loves it.
Sylvie stands up too, clearing the toys off the floor as Matt watches Brian’s breathing, the rise and fall of the small boy’s chest against his. It’s weirdly soothing and he soon feels his breathing match Brian’s, his eyes fighting to stay open. The singing and dancing and playing around really took the energy out of both of them.
When she’s done, she looks down at the two fatigued boys, smiling gently at the sight before curling up next to Matt on the couch. She holds Brian’s hand with her index and her thumb, and runs a soft hand over his head, before Matt’s arm wraps around her shoulder and she tucks her head in the nape of his neck.
“That’s better,” Matt beams, a tired smile on his face. He moves to press a kiss to Sylvie’s forehead.
“Much better,” she agrees quietly. “But we shouldn’t stay like this forever. He’ll need to go to his crib soon.”
“We’ll put him there soon,” he tells her. “Just five more minutes, babe…”
********
Wake up.
She feels those words ring through her body like an alarm. It sends the lights in her brain slowly turning back on as she eases into consciousness.
The first thing she sees, just barely and surrounded by a tired blur in her vision, is Matt. Brian’s still on his chest, both of them sleeping soundly. She smiles to herself, noting how peaceful her boyfriend looks in this position. Everything feels so warm. She’s cuddled up next to him, he’s lying with the baby. It all seems so picture perfect. She revels in it, if only for a moment.
She looks up and realizes it’s been twenty minutes since they’d fallen asleep— and Matt had promised only five. For a minute, she considers waking him up and telling him to bring Brian to his crib. She decides against it though, choosing instead to cuddle back into him and relax.
Joe and Chloe are going to be back any minute now. But she’ll be damned if she doesn’t soak every minute of this moment in. Before they’d figured things out and gotten together, Sylvie had scarcely allowed herself to feel things for him, nevermind daydream about the life they could have. But she looks at them, sees how truly good and comfortable Matt is with Brian, and can’t stop now. It’s addicting, dreaming about her future with Matt Casey. She intends to chase that feeling like it’s her only fix, especially since now she knows he’s thought about it too. Her dreams are his; theirs.
To Sylvie, that makes for a pretty good test run.
She falls back into Matt’s embrace, the three of them dozing off. They don’t wake up again until Joe and Chloe come back.
It’s the first night Brian Cruz gets a full night’s worth of sleep.
