“Staff to Weapon,” IQ17 spell, changes a wizard’s staff to another weapon type and allows them to wield it as if they had the required talent, though normal DX penalties will apply if the new weapon exceeds the wizard’s ST.  Several artists drew characters for The Fantasy Trip, Melee, and Wizard with a bell-bottom ‘70s clothing vibe.  (John Sullivan, for “Variant TFT Spells” by Ian Bell, Interplay 2, Metagaming, July-August 1981)

hi there! :) curious about the letter from La Fayette to George Washington from August 25-26, 1778. Wondering if you have any more information to share regarding his reference to his "injured heart." 👀
Dear @ouiouixmonami.
You are referring to this passage from a letter La Fayette wrote to George Washington on August 25-26, 1778:
(…) my Reason for not writing the same day the french fleet went to boston, was that I did not choose to trouble your friendship with the sentiments of an afflicted, injur’d heart, and injur’d by that very people I came from so far to love and support.
“To George Washington from Major General Lafayette, 25–26 August 1778,” Founders Online, National Archives, [Original source: The Papers of George Washington, Revolutionary War Series, vol. 16, 1 July–14 September 1778, ed. David R. Hoth. Charlottesville: University of Virginia Press, 2006, pp. 369–375.] (12/28/2022)
La Fayette’s wounded feelings were mainly caused by General John Sullivan. It was around this time that the French Fleet arrived in America under the command of the Comte d’Estaing to aid the Continental Army and a joined attack was planned between the French Fleet and American troops stationed in Rhode Island under the command of General Sullivan. La Fayette was the middleman and tasked with coordinating the alliance. Things were off to no good start (Sullivan and d’Estaing could not stand each other and d’Estaing also was not too happy with La Fayette at first.) Just when the situation appeared to be mended, a storm damaged the French (and the English) Fleet, and it was necessary for the ships to sail to Boston for repairs. The absence of the French Fleet caused some American troop to desert and La Fayette felt extremely frustrated. Frustration soon turned into anger against Sullivan, who had been a constant trouble for La Fayette and very undiplomatic – far more so than d’Estaing had been. La Fayette had put do much effort into this alliance (and the Franco-American friendship in general) and he felt as if Sullivan had betrayed his efforts.
I hope I could give the quote some context. I wrote in a bit more detail about the situation on Rhode Island during the year 1778 in this post. :-)
I hope you have/had a fantastic day!

While most of his army was taking up key positions east of the river, Washington positioned Brig. Gen. William Maxwell's Light Infantry Brigade (about 1,000 men according to Lafayette) in front of Chad's Ford west of the Brandywine. Maxwell spread his men out in ambush positions spanning the Great Post Road between Kennett Meetinghouse, three miles from the river, and Chad's Ford. Just west of the ford, a log and earth battery and a breastwork of fence rails commanded the main approach to the river. General Washington, an unimpressed Lafayette would later write, 'detached a thousand men under Maxwell, the senior but also the most inept brigadier general in the army.' Like Sullivan, Maxwell's abilities had also been called into question.
Brandywine: A Military History of the Battle that Lost Philadelphia but Saved America, September 11, 1777 by Michael C. Harris, pg. 209. Fun fact! My descendant, John Scalf, fought in a North Carolina regiment in this battle.

I don’t know how intentional it was, but John Sullivan managed to slip a few references to the actors themselves into OFAH, and it’s so sweet. Like, in one episode Del mentions working at the Tower of London. In real life, David Jason had gone there to study the ravens, in preparation for playing a raven in a play. Boycie mentions how proud he is of his garden, in real life, John Challis loved gardening and even owned a gardening centre at one stage. Roger Lloyd Pack was a huge music fan and enjoyed playing the piano and singing with his friends and family. Trigger is never shown to be musical, himself, but he likes to listen to Uncle Albert play.
