the concept of fankids is kinda cute i guess but it rlly bugs me sometimes when people think certain kins of mine would have/want kids. like this is a thing that bugs me in fandom in general but on a kin level it just doesn't make sense to me bc like. in some of those lives, i know for a FACT that i never would have wanted kids, either because i know i would have been a bad parent or bc i just straight up did not like children.

like this isn't a diss on kids or anything*, they have just as much of a right as i do to exist and live good lives and what have you. but /i/ would not have been the right person to give that to them. raising kids was a commitment that i just was not willing to engage in, so i didn't even entertain the idea, end of story. plus i typically already had my own myriad of bullshit to worry about, and in a lot of lives i could barely take care of myself– what makes you guys think i could take care of a /houseplant/, let alone a tiny human being with an intense amount of needs?? i don't get it.

i am glad a majority of you picked yes. making mass attacks is difficult but ultimately rewarding. you have to plan the layout, core theme, study each and every character you're including so you can have them do something and create scenes, hope that none of the characters get hidden while you're drawing (which is the most annoying part but understandable) and then submitting, and much more.

the three people who answered "ive known you for a long time" are all incorrect (youd have to know me longer than you know me from drawception, which is likeeeee late fnaf fandom i think???). a good chunk of you are from rain world!

rain world ppl youre in for a treat hehe. this is like the month of the year where i go tism on your characters, studying them under a microscope (and then probably most for them ill let them wear jackets or cool scarves)

First off, I want to thank you for being super understanding and appreciative of what I do! The fact that so many of you here have been supporting this blog so much has been a big highlight in my life recently. :)

That being said, I’d like to explain a few things now that we’re on the topic if you don’t mind!

About requests:

There are a few reasons that I usually keep my requests open that I think I would like to explain. One of these reasons is that sometimes I can’t always come up with very good ideas on my own all the time. Taking requests from everyone here in this community can help me draw ideas I would have never thought of and for that I’m grateful. Another is that I personally feel like taking requests builds a sense of community and gives me a chance to connect with all of you. I’ll be honest, I’ve been in quite a few fandoms and some of them were quite toxic. So to see that a majority of my experience here has been very nice has been refreshing in a way.

Now this doesn’t necessarily mean that I should feel obligated to do requests all the time. It’s just that I find them more fun than my ideas most of the time so that’s why there’s more of those than stuff that I’ve come up with.

The main rule that I’ve set for myself is that if I don’t like the request, I simply delete it. If someone repeatedly pushes for their request to be done I just simply ignore it or block that person if it’s too much. This is so I can keep this a comfortable experience for both myself and everyone else who follows this blog. Thankfully this doesn’t happen very often. This actually only happens with like a couple people which is why I haven’t really said anything much about it until now. It hasn’t really bothered me to be honest.

I also do close requests from time to time just to slow the flow down. This is so it doesn’t get too overwhelming since I do have a lot of requests that come in. As of posting this, there are like, 30+ requests that I haven’t done yet? But it’s not a big deal to me personally. I have a whole day to complete a 5 minute doodle so I’m sure I can take that tiny bit of time out of the day to do something so simple. That does mean waiting for your request might take longer, but I’ve already kinda talked about that haha.

Being overwhelmed:

Also I should clarify that I’m not really that overwhelmed by requests as you might think. I’ve had my fair share of overwhelming moments with similar scenarios like this and this is nothing compared to those. I knew what I was potentially getting into when starting this account so I knew what to prepare for ahead of time if it ever got to this point. I guess bad past experiences really can benefit you sometimes.

Now that doesn’t mean that I’m not overwhelmed at times! There will be a few moments that running this blog feels a little bit overwhelming but those moments are very brief. And in most cases those moments are usually worrying if people will like my doodle for that day or not. Or if I forgot to post that day lol. But generally speaking it’s nothing too worrying. I consider myself fairly good at keeping a level-headed attitude about this.

I’ve also had a few people both here on tumblr and other platforms say that they think I’m gonna burn out from doing this. Whether they mean this because Silksong hasn’t had any news for so long or because they’ve had no experience with a daily account, I’d like to assure you that burnout has a very low chance of happening for me. I’m intentionally putting semi-low effort into my doodles to avoid putting too much energy to this. Otherwise I’m absolutely sure I would have burned out weeks ago. If anything, I’m fully prepared to be posting to this blog for as long as a year assuming nothing happens along the way to prevent that. (*cough* like Silksong *cough* *cough*) If everything stays as is, then I’ll be here for a while.

Overall I’d just like to say that I’m under no pressure at all and all of this is just in good fun.

I think I mostly said everything I wanted to, but I hope I made myself clear about all this. If I missed anything I’ll probably talk about it on my main blog, @miizori.

And anon, you are a great person for being so considerate about this! You guys are just as awesome! My biggest takeaway from doing this is that I’ve had a good experience overall and it’s been really fun to interact with the community. I’ve also been enjoying watching my gradual improvement drawing my favorite characters too. If anything, it’s refreshing.

Heya say your latest post about the sunstone fics and just wanted too say you shouldnt worry so much about accidently 'copying' others! Creating is about having fun and if you get inspiration from others than so what you still made something different and unique even if it doesnt feel like it. Because anything you make is unique too you and therefor already worthwhile! And you def shouldnt let that stop you from reading fics if thats something you enjoy!

Thank you for reaching out; this is a good reminder. It’s funny, because I fully believe in “steal like an artist” in the sense that every new idea humans come up with is going to be a mashup of other, preexisting ideas because we’re always building on what came before. And fics from any given fandom will inherently share even more commonalities. I guess I’m just self-conscious because the imposter syndrome is real and I don’t want to step on any toes, even if by accident.

I am still looking for a beta reader, but at this point it’s more for characterization and the overall story/plot for me. no clue!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i honestly dont. really. have a super good idea as to what his crime even was other than he bonked someone, or multiple ppl, with a baseball bat. like. who did he even kill. what was the motive. what did the person(s) he killed do to trigger him into needing to protect himself. and i doubt we'll get answers to these questions until trial 3 considering John is very adamant about protecting Mikoto from the stress that comes with even thinking about that stuff. and John himself said he doesn't even remember a lot of the details and that his memory of it is fuzzy so. fucking RIP us i guess.

anyway. as for... i guess any sort of theory... uh... i've always liked the stalker theory.. though i guess i'm not As sure about it since Double's release but... i just think it explains all the camera imagery nicely.. though there's also other explanations for "being watched" being a theme for Mikoto so... who knows, i sure don't.

on its own... that would depend on what "on its own" means, exactly... like take everything other than the crime itself out of the equation? if so, then... well. my answer is not a yes or no but is instead:

hm..... well for one I'm always here for bashing the living hell that is The Working Culture, so hell yeah to that 🍻! I'm also a fan of just... the questions it poses about mental illness and culpability and the complications that arise when trying to take those types of extenuating circumstance into account.

of course I like the DID rep, and I think it's done very well so always a fan of that. I like just mentioned this in a post so oops but. as i said there, i really like how his DID isn't only portrayed as super clear-cut alters that like... never blend together. there is a good balance between how distinct they are and how much self agency they have, and then also how they influence each other. imo.

if we get to learn more about his family and what his home life was like growing up... I'm sure I will be a very big fan of that. here's a meme that I'm in love with that's sorta related I guess.

Honestly the constant discourse about Kyman, as someone who ships it, is kinda making me want to distance myself from what used to be my OTP. People speaking ill of Kyman shippers is working on me and starting to make me worry that I'm doing something wrong by shipping it. I shouldn't care about what ppl on the internet think and I usually don't but constantly being told that I'm "supporting" something thats "abusive" or problematic is getting to me. Like dammit, I didn't even know about the discourse when I got into Kyman; I got into it by watching the show itself and it was my first SP ship but honestly if I knew that people gave a shit about it in the SP fandom I probably wouldn't have bothered. It'll always have a place in my heart but I'm getting tired of this shit 😔 Im extra emotional rn so Im not being rational here and you dont have to publish this. I know fandom shouldn't have that affect on me I'll get over it after Style vs. Kyman fight 2192943290 blows over. Idk if you're comfortable with vents sorry if I crossed a boundary here.

Fandom discourse these days is insane. Unhinged, even. The idea that anyone is more morally correct than someone else for what they ship and enjoy in fiction is absolutely ludicrous. Especially within the context of shipping fucking South Park characters.

The hard truth is that every fandom is like this now. You don't have shipping wars just arguing over what makes more sense 'in canon', but moving on to an ever-changing line of what is and isn't 'morally acceptable.' As if that's ever something the majority of people would ever agree on. (Hint: it's not!)

But there is a certain irony to see people arguing this for South Park of all things, as if we aren't all equally degenerate for enjoying such a 'problematic' show in the first place. Like... seriously. Be so serious, people. It's South Park. Everything is exaggerated for comedic effect-- including character's personalities, their actions and their relationships to one another. It's never going to be a character driven show no matter how much this fandom sometimes wishes it was. We're going to have characters who don't give a fuck about each other, literally wishing death or plotting to kill each other in one episode and then they're just going to be chilling playing video games in the next episode like nothing happened. It's episodic. That's part of the appeal. It's why it's such a sandbox.

Even if you didn't ship Kyman, their dynamic is impossible to ignore, try as some might. They say they hate each other, yet they keep hanging out. Both parties are there of their own volition. They both enjoy each other's company, and no amount of write-up's anyone can post on tumblr dot com is going to change that canon fact. They're friends.

Also-- they are just plain fun to watch, fucking hilarious and a huge appeal of the show! If someone else who watches the show doesn't like them, that's their problem. Them not liking an aspect of the show isn't going to make that part of the show any less valid and/or canon. And guess what? You're supposed to like their dynamic. It's supposed to be entertaining and captivating. How you interpret it is up to you, but there is 100% nothing wrong with watching an episode of South Park and enjoying Eric and Kyle's dynamic-- that is what you're supposed to do. So don't feel bad about it. The show is made for people to enjoy, after all. Also, it's important to keep in mind that just because you can find a dynamic appealing doesn't mean you endorse everything about it. That's such a wild and new-age fandom take. Fiction is an escape-- a safe space to explore unrealistic relationships and unrealistic characters. You're allowed to like fucked up things in fiction. You're allowed to like stuff in fiction you'd find repulsive or abhorrent in real life.

I think I can speak for a good chunk of the fandom when I say, I'd fucking hate Eric Cartman in real life. Hell, I'd probably hate Kyle, too. I have a lot of favourite characters from different fandoms I'd probably hate in real life. They're fun because they're fictional and it's different from real life. If I wanted to read about stuff that happens in real life, I wouldn't be here.

In the end, anon, fandom is supposed to be fun. To me it's just fun to take these silly little egg construction paper kids, draw 'em as anime characters, and give 'em some angst. It's fun! There's so much to do with them! They're soooo dynamic!

But if you're not having fun-- if you're stressing-- there's nothing wrong with taking a step back for your own mental well-being. I'm not about to tell you your feelings are invalid, because I know how any internet discourse, no matter how trivial or silly it may seem, can still stress you out. If you're constantly being told you're morally corrupt or problematic, it can take a toll on you-- even if you know you're not. The truth is you're never going to agree with everyone on the internet, and people will weaponize something as trivial as a South Park ship to make them feel better about their ship while also making you feel worse about your ship.

Anyways, when it comes to stepping back, I think there's a few ways you could go about this;

You could disengage with the social part of the fandom-- focus on the show itself, maybe just hunker down with some fanfics.

If you'd like to remain active on social medias, I think it wouldn't hurt to start blocking liberally. Anyone who has anything along the lines of 'Kymans DNI' in their profile, just block right away. You don't want to see their opinion, anyways. You're never going to convince them otherwise.

If you have a few close friends, I recommend sticking close in a small private discord server where you can discuss your headcanons and gossip in private. It's much more liberating than trying to get involved in any of the insane discourse that plagues both here and Twitter.

Anyways, anon, do what's right for you. Kyman shippers will always be here to welcome you back! They can say what they want-- we have too much canon fodder for us to ever go away!!

It’s complicated but I was wondering what it’d be like if my sona was a miguel variant!

He looks a lot different each drawing I make of him due to me playing around with styles so keep that in mind that consistency is nonexistent to me.

I was a little nervous to show this to such a big fandom but then I remembered this is tumblr! I can do whatever, be cringe, and survive!!!

So here’s this, it’s all gonna be under the cut cause I took this as an advantage to geek out lol (a blessing and a curse)

Okay! So! His face, right.

Facial features.

This face. I did a lil’ sheet of him with and without glasses. He looks scared but bare in mind this is technically my sona and if you know me almost all of them I make are in this constant state of anxiety, and this is my way of projecting. So shhh.

In contrast to Miguel’s heightened sense due to the injects, Perry’s senses are erratic. This man’s vision gets worse TENFOLD. I’m already blind as is irl (that’s sarcasm) and the injections being unpredictable due to this dude’s like. Whatever, it makes it WORSE. Also the overstimulation is BAD with him.

As a reference to Miguel’s slicked back hair, he has his hair behind his ears. It’s a habit he does and will often fidget with his hair by constantly tucking it behind his hair and he refuses to tie it up.

Build/suit

This man is somewhat chubby but all that action will definitely muscle him out. Here’s him in the suit btw.

I think he would wear clothes overlapping the suit but because it’s like holographic and emits SO MUCH HEAT, he can’t do it during summer.

Cause imagine how hot that thing is!!!

I’ve seen the speculations that miguel could be very well naked underneath that suit, and I’ve seen how it’s like a running joke, like sure, it’s funny

BUT IMAGINE WEARING THAT THIMG EVERYWHERE WITH NO A/C!!! NO FANS!!! I imagine it being just as bad as wearing fursuit during summer (not coming from experience, but I see the struggle)

It must be super hot! I don’t know how but it LOOKS like that thing just RADIATES heat.

Venom

And the little fangs ref is from me being half asleep and dreaming while being awake somehow, and I guess I drew that??? Who knows.

He has natural fangs but the injections 100% make them more pronounced.

I’m not gonna overpower him and make his venom more dangerous but I’d say in addition to paralyzing his opponents, it also causes skin irritation.

Just picture it.

You’re can’t move and have to wait it off, but, your skin starts itching. It gets itchier and starts to burn BUT YOU CAN’T SCRATCH IT!!!

So you’re just laying there like “AAAAAAAA” cause then you’re worried it’ll blister, (it won’t), and you can’t check cause you can’t move!!!!!

Being bit by him would be the equivalent of having to use your teeth cause no matter how many times you scratch that one part of your hands as a kid (even as now) it wouldn’t stop itching!

Character personality/arc/dev

This part was trickier. I didn’t know if I wanted to make him completely different from canon or make him similar but not too similar. It was hard.

So I focused on small traits I knew I wanted him to have.

And I think I went bonkers.

Uh yeah. I told you the art style changes quite a bit.

I think this man would love to see Miguel’s year but not long enough to figure out all the futuristic stuff. He’d be an iPad peepaw 😞

Also I’m half Samoan myself irl, so I wanted to sprinkle in that Samoan rep in this. I see little to none in most of the media I explore around, and it makes me a bit sad but if there’s like an explanation lmk.

I know there’s some Polynesian rep in the community, just not as much as I like, so here I am adding to that in pride of my own culture. (I’m still doing research on it as someone who isn’t all that connect to my heritage so it’s not good rep but bare with me, I’m getting there. As these reference pages evolve so will the rep.)

I like making a lot of these sonas so I might remake this one in particular.

I figured I’d give him a more animated character while keeping miguel’s stoicism and attitude, so here’s the characteristics I did wanna give him.

Moody. Has mood swings due to various reasons but for Miguel’s character’s sake we’ll leave it vague.

Constant state of worry and paranoia. I have been showing signs of paranoia so I’m not pulling this one out of my ass, but I do see miguel showing signs of it during high stress. It’s a headcanon I have, but I’d imagine what years of being aware of the fact there’s more people like you in a whole strand of endless possibilities, and one of them is where you’re a fictional character and being conscious of that 4th wall, it can cause you to think some stuff.

Opinionated. That’s. That’s it.

Sassy. He’s so zesty and for what lmao.

Smartass and witty. I imagine him having huge yelling matches with miguel if they were to ever meet, but in the end would get along like an old married couple. Would miguel even remotely like him? No. Not even close. This man would HATE my sona. My sona would hate him back, but as someone who’s had yelling matches with other people he’d prolly be like “damn. But perry loves her like best friend. his lyla would be the lesbian in the dynamic while perry doesn’t care what gender you are, just please don’t use his coffee mug or mess with his pile of endless papers.

I also think he’s chose her own outfits and hair styles so while sure I’ll have her in pigtails to give movie lyla’s playfulness and duality a moment recognition. But you’ll also see her in black hairstyles with actual hair texture as her avatar varies cause I made her black for 1) practice and 2) just cause. Okay? Okay. (keep in mind i’m HORRIED with fashion. So I have no idea what I’m talking abt with her character design. You’ll have to learn with me and realize that I’m pretty much clueless on how the color wheel works, so be patient plz. I take constructive criticism tho btw.)

I think his lyla would be bossier and a lot more chatty. She’d sit there and rant about whatever information asked for and because he has ADHD this lyla would involuntarily speak like she has it too, but wouldn’t really show signs of it. If she were humanized i think she’d prolly have autism more than she would ADHD but because he works under conditions he prefers, he might make her a little all over the place cause I myself rlly hate routine and familiarity is hard for me to let go of in a certain way, so I think lyla would indirectly be made to where only he knows what works and what doesn’t with the important stuff

If miguel were to ever switch lylas he’d go crazy with this one. This lyla would stare at miguel like he’s speaking some other language since my sona would probably start with some bestie banter before getting into business so if miguel were to just start barking orders at her she’d be like “Uhm. Excuse me? 🧍” she’d put him in his place as she does with my sona but at the end of the day she’s still an AI so it doesn’t get so bad to where she can’t function and can’t get work done.

She would prolly have to remind my sona the time and other stuff like that cause if the forgetful factor but considering she has social skills my sona does, she’d prolly end up talking about something else entirely but at the end of the conversation she’d always remind him.

My sona would 100% giver her a stupid nickname like “android” or for shits and giggles a more human name “Andrea” and wouldn’t tell lyla abt it, but secretly whenever he’s talking abt lyla to civilians and family he’d refer her as “Andrea” for laughs but since it’s not in lyla’s code SHE’D HAVE NO IDEA!!!

I know it’s canon that lyla is canonically a small bit sentimental and somewhat secretly crushes on miguel in the comics (correct me if I’m wrong) but I’m p sure that happens and to that I say, she wouldn’t even remotely like my sona in that way, I see these two more as siblings in this universe than I do with the originals, so these two variants are seen as siblings and often times act like so!

Universe headcanons

I think what would separate the two from each other is my sona’s world would be a lot closer to what the 90’s kids thing we’d have in modern day society much rather what 2099 would have.

Like if you were to ask a kid from 1995 or something about what they think would happen and they said “flying phones” then so be it, bam it exists now lol

That’s just an example.

So it’s like what the 60s-90s predicted, or tried to, but a lot more realistic and the economy is better by 6%. Which isn’t a lot, but by today’s standards, it might as well be.

I like to think that his universe is WAAAAAAYYYY more diverse.

A lot more necessary items would be more available.

I also think my sona would be from the capital of oregon, Salem, much rather New York just because oregon has a special place in my heart.

This man’s civilian life is boring.

Before he was spider-man, I’d imagine him as an art guy. When he had time for it and used it as a job.

He’d probably be an artist with a psychologist degree. Which, yes, far from each other, but he uses it to the best of his ability to combine the two things.

Transportation would be funky, as flying cars would technically exist, but man would it make traveling easier.

Money would work the same way since I don’t really know how to make systems that would work out for the futuristic shit 2099 would offer, at first glance it seems a lot of it costs a lot, so I’d imagine it being a struggle.

And in any case, this also means my sona’s lyla isn’t his! This man stole got it from his brother.

My sona had two brothers as a reference to my own brothers, but for purposes of staying true to Miguel’s character (which I have not been doing well at doing) he’ll have to stick to having 1 that’s consistently mentioned. Which brother? I have decided to keep that vague.

In conclusion: I just needed to rant abt this character and have been anxious to post abt him since this means a number of things and because I saw a bunch of other people come up with this idea many times before, but I really wanted to make this a thing since it’s been in my head nonstop.

Admittedly I thought abt this idea before I saw everyone else’s ideas, but after seeing them all I was super scared to post my version, but after some consideration i figured I’d just take down the post no problem if it comes down to it.

I don’t really like miguel as a person (this is not miguel hate/slander in any way), but man, he’s a great character. Like, sure. He’s an asshole with too much of an ego to save himself, which I’ve noticed is a running joke in the fandom.

But after seeing the script, I’ve noticed that this man is just misunderstood. Miguel is nothing more than an antagonistic hero who has nothing better to do than do what he views as right.

What he did is unforgivable, but it makes sense.

I will forever stay by Miles’ side of the whole plot, but it made sense why miguel would go to this extent. (Not saying he’s in the right. Miguel really isn’t and his cut and dry reasoning to why he does shit ARE NOT valid reasons as it’s completely unreliable, but if I were in his shoes and trying super hard not to fuck shit up, I’d PANIC.)

His biggest flaw is getting too caught up into the past and using his trauma as a reason for everything he considers logical, just to get by and help others the way he needs that help. The way he thinks is help for everyone, or the way he thinks is best TOO help.

Using trauma bonding (which is implied) to then “help” others to “not make the same mistake”, being so fixated on it to the point you can tell he hasn’t had human contact in any normal way for a while.

This also may explain the touch starve and touch adverse headcanons going around the miguel tag.

In a way, I admired miguel in that sense. He was like me, just if he was a bit grumpier.

He acted how I used to, and his shame was just as matched as it was with trauma.

And I felt that.

So, I decided to make a sona based off him. I promise I’ll make a more original one, but for now have this miguel rip-off.

While I hate miguel, I also respect his character as a whole.

(And because of the arguments of opinion and mischaracterization, no. This isn’t canon, this is my interpretation. And no, I will not demonize him just because I hate him. I honestly think he deserves just as much good as miles does, but miles needs a lot more attention as of recent events.)

i’ve been thinking on this question a bit and i feel like this is kind of a tricky question to ask because it IS mainly down to chance !! but i want to make a distinction between viral fics and just generally popular ones because the first is very much down to random chance and a few other factors — these fics tend to be plot heavy + long + high drama and angst. they read more like novels i think? but most fanfiction isn’t like that (i mean i don’t personally write anything like that!!). for me meaningful engagement with my fic didn’t necessarily mean i had accrued heaps of hits but occurred rather when i had a tumblr where i was making friends + posting about my fic and posting snippets etc. and interacting with people in the comments of my fic and on tumblr. i’ve pretty slowly just gained a reader base from that and over time the fics have been read and ppl come back to read my other ones ?? i guess!!

i think it also helps to have someone read over your work just to check for grammar and spelling + plot holes etc. because those things can have people clicking off a fic for sure. also tagging thoroughly and accurately on ao3 is really helpful so people can actually find your fic. in my experience the best thing you can do is write a story you really love + enjoy writing and have fun with because that’s when you write your best and people will see that in the story and writing…. and there’s like hundreds of very similar fics (i’m thinking lie low at lupin’s etc etc) so just… write whatever don’t worry about being original or whatever.

idk i’m curious what other people have to say about this because there’s a trend that i haven’t seen as much in other fandoms for fics to become ‘viral’ through twitter and tik tok (i mean atyd is like the most read fic on ao3 right?? or one of them??) and i think it’s really skewed people’s perception of what is typical engagement with fic (which tends to be small and perhaps builds over time) and what the purpose of posting is all about. writing should be about your own enjoyment and hopefully people get some out of it too. obviously it’s hard Not to want people to read and like and comment on your work but posting with that as the main hope in mind is just gonna be pretty miserable i think!!!!

i do definitely find toxic romantic relationships more interesting, in the same way i find toxic dynamics or platonic/familial relationships more interesting too. i think characters expose a really ugly honest side of themselves when they're around people who make them worse and as a writer that's way more fun to write !! i could go on about how much fun it is to write toxic dynamics in any capacity but i will. keep this as short as i can lol

i do enjoy found family / healthy relationships don't get me wrong !! but a lot of relationships people argue are healthy in fanon spaces actually make me uncomfortable - not for the actual ship itself, but for how fanon takes it as unproblematic when often there are actually loads of problems / toxicity within the ship. for example, ppl cite like. ckarlnapity as a ship without problems, or a ship that would work fine if they resolved their miscommunication - i fucking LOVE c!karlnapity and absolutely have written them this way (and will do so again dkjfkdj) but this interpretation feels like it's missing the core of these characters and how... incompatible i think they are with each other. that doesn't mean i don't enjoy it, but the way fanon media tends to gloss over the darker or unhealthy parts of this ship leaves me unsettled. at least w ships like c!awesamdream there's nobody pretending they're holding hands singing kumbaya in any situation other than being locked in a box with each other LMAO /j

also i tend to gravitate more towards unhealthy dynamics because it's more interesting to have conversations with fans without jumping through the disclaimers of "i know this is bad in real life and do not condone this behaviour and understand the consequences of reality etc"?? the people i've met that are also c!awesamdream shippers are so fucking talented and analytical and their aus are so interesting to me.

Okay, my brain is still a little scrampled eg :tm: and foggy and I'll have to go to sleep again soon but I want to ramble about this as I think writing it down may help others but also help to ram it in my own head a little bit - so this may not be worded the way id like it to but hopefully the message will still come across

This is about fanwork/headcanons/aus and such - since I am working on quite a big Deltarune AU myself and I constantly worry about it not being "canon" enough, since it is meant to be canon-esk and develop things that the player doesn't see in the game.

But... That is kind of the magic of aus! You can do so much cool stuff with an existing media, potray things your own way, change things to suit your needs or change problematic things, add cool ocs, add cool headcanons and make them canon in the au and create things to support them even more, and other things!!! literally go ham and have fun!!!!!! i am thinking abt that one post that i rbd a while ago that i rbs bc of the last addition abt aus and how people should make oc worlds at that point (and how that is how twilight was created)

And I suppose, if you change canon characters too much and claim them as your ocs (like the fucking mass amount of spamton ex ocs, and we know how i feel about those /neg) but still!! literally just have fun its not harming anyone, only absolutely butthurt negative assholes!!! ive been worrying about changing stuff in **MY** au because one or two people out there may not like it.

Idk if you’ve finished the manga, but if not then !!!SPOILERS!!! I guess?? bc honestly I’m still surprised that it was treated as a big reveal IN-story and I want to talk about it... so... by the end of manga we were told that Hichigo (sorry I’m not calling him any other way LOL, I’ve been calling him this for years...) is actually the REAL Zangetsu and I was like......... duh? Should it be some kind of reveal? And the thing is, while okay, in-universe it was a huge reveal for Ichigo, I wonder if it was a plot twist for the fandom? Sadly, the time it was happening I wasn’t an active member of the community anymore, so I don’t know ppl’s reaction to this, but I do believe it was obvious...

I always thought that while yes, Hichigo is pretty harsh/vitriolic towards Ichigo, but his behaviour is completely understandable... if my “host” was an idiot with some really strong saviour/messiah complex who is constantly throwing himself in danger just to save other people (and some of them he doesn’t even know that well), I, also, would want to take over the body just to make sure this moron won’t kill himself... Hichigo was the one who was teaching Ichigo new shit, and every time Ichigo was about to die it was his Hollow who would take over Ichigo’s body to kill/eliminate the ones who hurt Ichigo... I was always thinking that Hichigo was more than just a hollow, so him ending up being Zangetsu was... predictable? Not in a bad way tho, it’s cool that this plot twist was kind of predictable... but again, I wonder if it was a surprise for the fandom?

Also, beside the point, but I was shipping HichiIchi because I’m really into selfcest ships lol... I don’t know why, but they are so entertaining to me. I don’t know how to say it without it sounding dumb, but I like how those kind of selfcest ships can open up an interesting ways to interpret self love... does it makes sense? LOL

Why Donnie, Once Again, is Not a Canon Thing.

Okay, let’s talk about Donnie. As I said yesterday, I get that the writers are teasing it pretty hard, but guys, it’s SOOO just a distraction.

I’m going to give you my thoughts on last week’s TTD, because it was very Connie-centric, along with the some of my fellow theorists’ thoughts here in a minute. But once again, everyone needs to stop freaking out about Donnie. The shippers believed (and many other ships feared) that ep 22 and the “tunnel of love” would be when Donnie went canon. I was never worried about it, but unlike other scenes in the past (i.e. the apple/reunion scene) which understandably encouraged the shippers, this tunnel scene was pretty much the biggest nothing-burger in the history of ships.

(With the possible exception of every time Caryl was going to go canon, according to the shippers. And…didn’t. 😏 )

I don’t mean to sound disrespectful. I have an ask in my inbox, which I haven’t answered yet, but I will (bear with me; there’s been a lot to post lately so I’m a bit behind on Asks) that accuses me of throwing shade at the Donnie ship. I’m sorry if it comes across that way. That isn’t my intention. As always, everyone is both welcome and entitled to ship whomever their heart desires. I’m just pointing out that it’s not going to go canon on the show. And we’ve been saying that since Connie first came on the scene.

Feel free to doubt me if you wish, but we haven’t been wrong yet, have we? And it just wouldn’t make any logistical sense to suddenly throw Daryl into a relationship with only 2 episodes to go and tons of stuff they have to cover before the end.  Just not gonna happen, my friends.

Now, as to the TTD and all the poles and everything, I have my suspicions about those. I’ll talk about them below, as will my theorist buddies. Keep reading. Overall, just know I’m not worried about this. Never have been. They’ve told us too many times in the show that that’s not where they’re going with it. And, low and behold, once again, they didn’t.

In the beginning of the TTD episode Chris announced that they would be sharing the 5 most romantic moments in TWD. Apparently, it was some type of survey that's had been going on elsewhere online. This is just my guess that fans submitted what they thought were the most romantic moments and then they narrowed it down (still guessing) to the final 5. 

So, it wasn't known to everyone. It wasn't anything that had been announced previously on the ttd. I believe it was on a TWD site that a lot of people frequent but not everyone knew it was going on. No indication of how many people entered a romantic moment suggestion it was just, here's the results. 

There was no other talk of other possible romances for Daryl. There was no mention of Leah or Beth. Only talk of Carol and Connie. Seriously guys can you blame the viewership? 

Daryl carrying both out of Grady was an iconic moment but you would not call that romantic, heart breaking but not really a romantic moment. If no Bethyler submitted the intertwined fingers at the grave site or Daryl watching Beth at the piano or eye exchange "oh" moment at the table then there would be no Bethyl moment to vote for.

I think you’re probably right. The bethyl fandom feels a bit diffused as well, like ppl ship it but aren’t as active online in big droves. Sort of related, but I’ve found a lot of ppl from other fandoms I’m in also ship bethyl but haven’t watched TWD in a while. It has a lot of crossover with certain other Desperately Tragic™ ships I partake in lol. So, I am also not really surprised there wasn’t a bethyl moment.

Even though like you said, Norman talked about Daryl having had feelings for Beth in season 4 in his origins episode, I think it would be kind of a major eyebrow-raiser for them to include a bethyl moment. People would immediately be like, “Ummmmmmmm is she coming back?” I can’t tell at this point whether that’s what they would want, or not. But I do know that if they want fans to start figuring things out, it will be highly orchestrated, and it won’t happen until they’re perfect and ready.

I finally watched TTD and wanted to put some thoughts in about it. They suggested “designation 2” simply meant death, but I agreed with the Rick guy who said if they wanted to kill Connie, they would have just done it at the CW. They were clearly taking her somewhere else for some other purpose. But I thought the fact that they even suggested “death” might have been a hint that maybe people might have believed her dead, even if she wasn’t. And of course then AMC put in the option for the CRM, which is what everyone chose. I enjoyed seeing that, not only because clearly their hinting at the CRM story line, but because a good deal of the GA is now aware of and anticipating it.

They did mention Maggie looking for Hershel along the tracks being a parallel to her looking for Glenn in S4. It’s always nice when they confirm our thinking. ;D

Then Lauren Cohan said something about there being a lot of “accidental sentimentals” this season. By that, she meant accidental callbacks to things in earlier seasons. I literally laughed out loud at that. We all know nothing is “accidental” with AK and Gimple. But more than that, I’m pretty sure this was a practiced answer from Lauren. Who comes up with the phrase “accidental sentimentals” on the spot?

The thing that jumped out at me about the Daryl/Connie question was Lauren Ridloff’s answer. When they asked her directly, she kind of puttered around and said that Daryl and Connie were awkward together and are “not clear where they stand with each other.”

It’s kind of similar to what they said about Daryl not understanding his feelings for Beth back in S5. And I know that sounds like an argument for Donnie being a thing, but I don’t mean it to be. Back in S5, when they said this about Beth and Daryl, nothing went canon. It’s almost a sign that it WON’T happen. Or at least, in Bethyl’s case, not yet. And you might be able to argue for seasons down for Donnie…except that this is the final season and LR is heading off to film a different series and several films, so I don’t see her being on screen much with Daryl in the next year or three, even if her character survives the finale.

I also want to contrast this hemming and hawing and, “we don’t really know where we stand” with what they said on the TTD after Still. They literally raised a toast to “Daryl, and his girlfriend Beth.” So yeah. Once again, much like the “tunnel of love,” there’s just literally nothing going on here. I noted when Norman talked about the train scene being filmed out in the middle of nowhere, away from cameras. You talked about that, Ann.

Also, AK said Daryl and Carol are best friends and soulmates. She equated those two things. Which is important because she’s using it in a platonic soulmates way. They’ll always be BFFs. Mother/son or siblings. Whatever you want to call it. She talks about how they can even get really mad at one another, but then forgive one another and come back together and it’s not a big deal. So, just important to note that sometimes, when AK talks about soulmates, she’s not talking about romance.

Lauren Ridloff had a line when she was talking about Kelly. I think Chris asked her what Connie would have thought if she knew what was going on at the labor camp with Kelly or something. I didn’t write the entire thing down, but she said something about how it was a bad situation where people could be hurt or killed (referencing the three who tried to escape and were shot) and Connie would not have been happy if that happened to Kelly. It was just kind of the way she said it; the way she emphasized it, that made it feel like perhaps a clue to me. But I’m not sure to what. Maybe to either Connie or Kelly’s deaths? Idk. Like I said, just kinda stood out to me.

The only other note I had is that when AK was talking about Daryl becoming a parent these past seasons, it showed a picture of him sitting by the fire in Inmates with Beth. She’s not in the shot. It’s just him sitting there with his knees pulled up. But it still jumped out at me that they’d used a shot from a Beth scene. I still can’t decide whether it fits with the rest of the pics they used.

Maybe I’m reading too much into it. AK was talking about how Daryl came from a bad family background, so he’s trying to provide the stability for the kids that he never had. It showed scenes of him hallucinating Merle in Chupacabra, and a few others. And my first thought was that the scene from Inmates really doesn’t fit with those. Then again, he did open up to Beth about his father. And Merle. But those weren’t the scenes it showed either. Just the one from Inmates. Anyway, I’m rambling. Just something that caught my attention.

Again, I don’t think I have anything new to say about anything else. I agree with your analysis of the “top 5 romantic moments,” @wdway. If Bethylers had known, there would be a Bethyl moment there. But honestly, I don’t think even many Carylers knew. Sure, the Cherokee Rose moment was there, but it seems to me that if Carylers were choosing this, we would have seen either the hug after Terminus or the hug at the Cabin in S7 be in the top 5. Both of those moments, in the Carylers’ eyes at least, had more “romance” than the Cherokee Rose did.

Honestly, I can’t imagine the fandom at large choosing Aaron and Eric as one of the top 5 moments. I’m not saying it wasn’t sweet and sad, but it also wasn’t a romance that was showcased for the audience. They were already together when we met them, and the writers didn’t go too far out of their way to make us invested in the relationship. Eric’s death was more about Aaron’s grief than about the relationship itself. So yeah, I think the writers just chose some romantic moments to put in, and specifically steered clear of Beth and Daryl.

And what about the Donniers? I get that they could not have chosen the moment when Daryl freed her in this episode because the “poll” (if there really was one) was done before this episode aired. But still, we had him taking her hand a couple of seasons back when they were looking for Kelly. And the hug when they reunited, and he dropped the apple crate. The Donnie ship is arguable the most active ship right now because the writers are actually having moments of interaction between Daryl and Connie on the show. Are you honestly telling me all the Donniers knew about this poll and none of those moments made it into the top 5? But…Aaron and Eric, who died four years ago and whose relationship no one was super invested in, did? See what I mean?

ANYway. I think that’s about all I have.

Want to just write this down before I forget it because it really struck me, and I’ve never thought of it before. Per the note about the shot of Daryl from Inmates and becoming a father. Daryl and Beth’s arc in Inmates is short and brutal and the whole thing is about him following Beth and trying to find the kids. He is hopeless and numb all through the episode while Beth is taking charge and trying to get a rise out of him.

In that shot he’s just numbly sitting staring at the fire while Beth is telling him all the things that could be true and who could still be alive. Eventually, she goes off and he follows her, and she tells him to start tracking, which he does. They walk past the dead bunnies, and they see the squished grapes. 

Beth starts picking the grapes frantically saying that the kids will be hungry when they find them, grasping for hope. He hands her the bandana. They then track Lizzie, Mica, Judith, Tyreese, and Carol (tho they don’t know it at the time), out to the train tracks where they find all the carnage, including Luke’s shoe, and Beth breaks down crying, while Daryl remains yet emotionless.

So, the episode is really about them trying to find their children, who they ultimately determine to be dead, and Beth cries for the first time in a very long time, because she knows they have failed. It’s an echo of when Rick and Carl find Judith’s empty car seat in “After.” It’s just a horrifying failure. That might be why Angela chose that shot.

Also, this may be kind of…crass? Lol idk the word. But in the first shots of Inmates, we ofc see Daryl and Beth running from walkers. When they can’t run anymore, they fall to the ground and there’s this sexual imagery. I really don’t think I’m along on reading it that way lol. Anyway, this then gives way to them searching for their lost children. I don’t know if it’s foreshadowing. But it does feel like they’re a “family.” Same way that Tyreese, Carol, and the girls are a family, and Rick, Michonne, and Carl are a family.

I was also thinking, with Connie, they had this opportunity to make her disappear the same way Beth did, and to be a motivating factor for the spin-off, but her kidnapping becomes a nothing burger and Daryl and Carol rescue her in two seconds. Ultimately, I could never ship Donnie because tptb clearly don’t care about Donnie. They might use it to drum up ship wars, but the truth is, Daryl and Connie had chemistry in the beginning and easily could have become a romantic couple. Instead, they made LEAH. Why would they do that if Donnie were endgame? It makes no narrative sense.

In some ways, Connie seems like she was made to annoy Carylers, lol. That whole cave-in plot seems made to complicate things between Carol and Daryl, not Daryl and Connie. When Beth is taken, it’s about Beth and Daryl and nobody else. HE loses her. It’s not Carol’s fault. Wouldn’t it make sense for tptb to do this, like make the fandom look left, while they secretly ready the universe for Beth to return? Seems like something they’d do. The best plot twists are those that you never see coming, but when they do happen, you’re somehow not surprised.

I want to know like if Daryl has had these love options like Connie and Carol for all this time, like why did they feel the need to invent a villain with Beth’s hair in order to give him some sort of love story? Seems weird to me!!!!

I’ve watched a lot of TV shows with epic ship wars and the Daryl ship wars aren’t even that hot because he hasn’t had any romantic contact with either Carol OR Connie. It’s all in the fans’ heads.

I mean ppl are so in denial about Beth because she was a teenager or whatever, but they at least HELD HANDS. He watched her sing, carried her on multiple occasions, stared at her with intensity, got drunk with her?? Looked at her like he still hasn’t looked at anyone. I know we’re all biased but I’m just stating the facts?? Like to a totally nonchalant outsider with no weird hang-ups about the age difference coming to the show for the first time (aka me two years ago) it was so clear to me that Bethyl was Daryl’s OTP.

Then they had a recording of AK talking about the relationship between Carol and Daryl. Nothing she has not already said in the past. She started out about them being friends and then saying soulmates and how they communicate with each other and sometimes that's involves they don't always agree but they love each other. Yes, she actually used the word love. But that is so surface, she has said that so many times before and it's all true. But she never said romantic love.

Tonight was a little over the top to the point that there's no way it's going to be either of these people because they would never lead you down the path of it going to be one or the other. It's going to be that Decoy. That 3rd choice that the general audience does not even realize is out there, yet.

The way I see it is they are bringing up (officially pointing) to the fact that Daryl has not had a True Romance. They're planting the seed. They're indicating that the series is coming to an end. And we already know that the episode that will air next week episode 22 there is absolutely nothing there between Daryl and Connie. We have not seen any sign of romance between Daryl and Carol. Yes, they are setting up the thought of Daryl and romance. That's what I was smiling about.
