FAQs
Simple instructions:
Go to the ask and submit the name of someone you like. I highly recommend sending photos of the person over 60, but that's not required.
If you submit a name with photos, those submissions get processed first over all other submissions. You do not have to include images, but you know the pictures of them that look good way better than Google does. The photo(s) must be that submission over 60.
If anon is on, just make sure your submission follows the guidelines, and submit a name
What are the requirements to submit to this blog?
Submissions must be over 60 years old. That's the main point of the blog. Object or person, any gender, whatever. Just over 60.
Please check to see if they're eligible to be submitted on the spreadsheet. Eligibility is 6 months from poll posted day. If they are not eligible, we'll delete anon submissions and respond privately to let you know when to resubmit.
Spirit of the blog: this is for fucking old people. please send in old looking old people. if they do not have wrinkles or a clearly defined age well over 60 y/o, we reserve the right to delete the submission.
No animals, no matter how long they've been extinct.
The spreadsheet has collected all of the polls (or almost all) the polls on the queue, thanks to our Jubi. This also has a list of people this blog will not accept. I am not going to entertain discussion on yes or no on these people. These decisions are final.
What about a fictional politician, or a real politician who is in a show?
YES: Fictionalized versions of politicians in Video games, biopics, fiction books/stories, movies, TV shows, and similar. NO: Versions of politicians Documentaries, Nonfiction books. Politicians who died before 1 AD are allowed to be polled.
Edit: here
Why was musk allowed?
I was drunk when I posted it and when I woke up he was at less than .8% smash and i was in shock. Justice for Vivian
Why did you post X person that is horrible?
Found it funny. Or more likely, I am not aware of the issue; send in information about it, and I'll decide from there.
Why Amber heard on the not allowed?
Same reason as depp. Go back to the tag with you.
What if the character doesn't have a canon age?
If they're fictional, it'll have to be vibe. Go with the spirit of the blog: we're not looking for Chilchuck Tims (Sorry), we're looking for Saruman and Gandalf.
What if they're confirmed Old™ in Canon, just no age?
Sure.
Can I submit my OC?
Submit with a photo of them and a short bio (3-5 sentences)
Will you delete my submission?
Yes, if it comes out that person is a bigot, or if you attach too many under 50 images, or they're not eligible.
Did you receive My submission of [XXXXXX]?
If you're asking on anon, you'll get deleted. If you're asking off anon, 90% of the time we'll reply privately.
Have you processed my submission?
Check if they're in the queue tab and check if I've gotten to the date you submitted them.
What if I send multiple asks of the same person?
If it's all in the same hour, generally delete anons and reply I received the ask if not & only keep one copy.
You should use soundcloud/spotify/yt/etc only!
I start with soundcloud, then try spotify, then yt. This was established with a poll, and yt is often region locked.
Who runs this blog?
The creator of this blog is V Saggy Hole, 27, it/itself. @heartofhubris Come watch my mental breakdowns over old men. To summarize some of the questions I've received: Fiddauthor and billford, for different reasons. I love swooning over stans. Stream Alt j, lonely machines 100 gecs and 3oh!3, still woozy, chet faker, and cloud fodder. My oldies are Jk simmons and all of his roles, Alfred Molina (specifically Harding Hooten), Sean Bean (now more than ever), Hiroyuki Sanada, Ford Pines (yes jk simmons Shh) and Stan Pines, Ian Mcshane (now more than ever), insomniac doc ock, Im going to stop myself from continuing. Genuine Homer Pigeon is the best rock dove.
Additional Helpers
Zemi, @overlookedfile, 35+, any pronouns. Yeah, that overlookedfile. Who are my old men? Geez, there are a lot, but I guess the short list is my husband (duh), Alfred Molina, Oliver Platt, Ron Perlman, Paul Giamatti, Saul Rubinek, and Eddie Marsan. I write when the writer's block allows and my most common genres seems to be m/m, A/B/O, and/or BDSM. My rule of thumb as concerns engaging with anything of mine is, "Go for it, but I ain't gonna pay for your therapy."
Jubi, @lizardperson, 35+, it/they, problematic age gap fan. too aspec for a consistent type - some of the hottest people just happen to be old 🤷 random list, in no particular order and probably incomplete: Gina Gershon, Lance Henriksen, Jason Isaacs, Mads Mikkelsen, Shoreh Agashdaloo, Kurt Russell, Michelle Yeoh, Gillian Anderson, ...?

Is it true that parts of Lily Orchard's 'iconic' "SU is Garbage and here's why"-video were directly stealing from another person's take down of the show?
The story I remember reading somewhere was: a black woman creator was criticizing the show's racism/portrayal of race from her perspective -> LO copied or quoted beat-for-beat bits from said video -> said creator voiced in LO's comments that LO had stolen from her and also -> said creator was uncomfortable with how Lily was handling the Stevonnie topic and found her to be the one making it creepy??? -> Lily blocks, mutes the comments of and makes a hate campaign against said creator for the crime of calling Lily out on her bs -> said creator goes quiet because she kept getting heat from Lily's base.
Is any of this true?
I think, understandably, said creator did not want to be associated with Lily or was tired of getting flaq from Lily's fans, and that may be the reason said creator doesn't want to talk or have their name given out. Understandable. But- I need receipts. I can't cont making this claim confidently if I just don't know the story. I promise if anyone gives me said creator's name (may have changed by now) I won't bother them, name them here or anywhere. I respect privacy and also I totally get wanting to be away from all this.
If Lily ever did a plagerism or not is what I'm trying to get to the bottom of, but I know Lily's [bad] takes against SU are rooted in real criticisms made by not-shit critics that Lily took and made horrible in her uniquely Lily way.
As I've mentioned before I like the Diamonds as villains and characters and even I found the finale arc uncomfortable. I think Steven Universe mishandled the topic of genocide and pacifism, besides just having bad pacing. Other critics have meaner or nicer things to say than I do but the point is it's totally normal and not a mark against you to hate the Diamonds and find the show offensive. Where Lily doubled down and went way WAY too far is when she basically insinuated it couldn't just be bad writing but that Sugar was actually a 'fascist sympathizer' herself; WHICH ofc led to Jewish people being upset with Lily, Lily not apologizing to said people and saying they were just butthurt, which led to mine and other's vibe that Lily was being antisemitic and still is, because she really REALLY can't swallow her pride. Fans obv didn't like this language, but also a lot of critics and 'antis' didn't like it either prolly because being dismissive of marginalized people's takes is kind of bad. There's a difference, even in 2018-2019 tymes, between saying 'ick I hate this [x]-liberal creator for being a false ally, ect ect' and saying 'I'M not saying Rebecca Sugar is fascist, but I WILL SAY-'. THAT was what was shitty and still is shitty about how she handled that situation. Lily was taking a criticism that can/does have validity and being needlessly mean and accusatory with it.
@lillian-v-orchard @mikailaandlilyorchard @opinated-user come pm or dm me about this. Same with anyone else in the know who knows more than I do. I want to know I'm not mandela effecting myself or that I got the info from a biased source. Thanks.

Not Taekook related, but I was thinking a lot about the whole Min Heejin and HYBE drama, particularly the stories about the shaman and BTS, the leaking of private/personal information about idols (possibly Garam, Youngseo and others), also the allegedly trying to snare V. All this makes me wonder if MHJ had a hand in V's scandal with Jennie. It would be good to get your thoughts on it all.
This is all so seriously messed up. I think there is faults on both side but also some valid points too.
Whilst I will answer your main question about taennie and possibly the whole JK fake apartment video, I feel I need explore the situation as a whole. So I will structure it like this:
Thoughts on the key points/accusations on boths sides about the whole dispute
Was Heejin involved in rumours about BTS members
What I think will happen
Final thoughts
Ok...
Thoughts on the key points/accusations on boths sides about the whole dispute
I do think Heejin has some valid points about the visual concepts being used by other HYBE artists, although technically, MHJ doesn't own any of the IP she created with ADOR. I know a little about IP and Copyright there are 4 types...
Creator / 1st Owner - where the creator is also the owner of the product, for example: The author and first owner of copyright in a sound recording is the record producer. The author and first owner of the copyright in a broadcast is the broadcaster. The author and first owner of the copyright in a published edition is the publisher.
Works created for an employer - (this will apply to MHJ) Where a literary, dramatic, musical or artistic work, or a film, is made by an employee in the course of his employment, his employer is the first owner of any copyright in the work (subject to any agreement to the contrary).
Commissioned works - This is like when HYBE commissions a producer/writer to create something, the rights belong to the company/person who creates the work (say Andrew Watt) not the commisioner (HYBE)
Joint Author/Co-Written - Joint ownership might arise, for example, if a person was commissioned to create a website together with one of the company’s employees. It is likely that both the person being commissioned and the company would be joint first owners of copyright in the website. For co-written songs the songwriters share ownership.
So unless MHJ had a special contract that gave her special rights over something, she has no control over what she creates as it BELONGS to HYBE, that includes NewJeans, the concepts and other IP.
It's clear HYBE has the evidence to show there is something underhand going on, and has probably had evidence for weeks. They probably discovered the plot because of the copying on files by that VP at ADOR. Also why would anyone make plan to takeover a company for the hell of it... it doesn't make sense.
Is it unfair that MHJ has a clause stopping her from working in the industry for a period of time if she leaves HYBE/ADOR... NO, these are common place in businesses, plus she negogiated and signed her contract... unless she didn't do the proper due diliegence.
The MHJ press conference was a masterful display of media play/manipulation. She deliberately wore clothes that made her look dishevelled, also the cap adequately hide the fact that she never actually shed a tear once in the whole 2 hours and her make up helped with this impression, by making her cheeks look wet from tears.
HYBE in a cult...
But obviously not true and MHJ and co are clearly dropping fake stories to tarnish everyone.
I certainly believe (after that news conference where she slandered nearly every HYBE group) that this woman leaked private and confidential information about trainees and idols.
Her and Bang PD were not close... so which CEO hired her in 2019, I'll give you one guess and his name is in this sentence... so he must have spent time with her and cultivated a working relationship at BIGHIT Entertainment prior to HYBE forming... MHJ was VERY selective in of which chats to share with the press... I expect Dispatch to expose more her conversations with BPD, which will paint things in a different light.
MHJ lied in her press conference... she took, with HYBE's blessing, Source Music trainees, staff and other resources to form NewJeans and ADOR... with HYBE's money.
HYBE CEO is dirt bag who likes vaginas... simply because he oversaw video game that was quite rude. It's not like he designed it himself, he simply oversaw the project, plus unfortunately that's a big thing in the Video Game world... it can be very msygonistic.
Was Heejin involved in rumours about BTS members
So was MHJ involved... on the surface one might think so.
I do think she might have had a hand in the Garam scandal and the leaking of Youngseo, members of two groups she saw (in her own words) as threat to NEWJEANS and her vision.
However, I don't think she had anything to do with Taennie or JK's fake video, it's clear (at least for Taennie), that YG was heavily involved and possibly HYBE too.
Now to the recent stuff that's currently be "leak" and stuff that might come out in the next few weeks... I think her involvement might be more logical.
What I think will happen
I think within the next month HYBE via a shareholders meeting with ousts the ADOR board and replace it with their own board and subsequently remove MHJ from her pssost.
ADOR's new CEO will be another woman from within the company
From what I understand, MHJ might have a problematic history with young people... I'm sure if she does it will come out.
There will be a trial of some kind and MHJ and co will be found guilty in someway
I think HYBE in general will take more control (at least at board level) of every sub-label over the next year, to strengthen its position but also but to improve coordination between labels to stop classes that have occured in the past.
NewJeans won't be leaving ADOR/HYBE, mostly because HYBE owns the brand of NJs and their concepts, but also it's be intimated that NJs would have to pay hefty reparations for said IP and to be released from their contract. I suspect post MHJ HYBE will sweeten the NJ's current deal with additional stuff.
Final thoughts
It's a mess, but within a few weeks/months it'll all be partly resolved to a certain extent.
I suspect this week HYBE through outlets like Dispatch will leak even more of the incriminating shit it has on MHJ and her co-conspiritors.
HYBE will remove the current board of directors at ADOR and then remove MHJ and he co-conspiritors.
I suspect we'll also get some expose about her time at SM that isn't pretty and adds more fuel to the fire and may show she has a track record of causing trouble.
I also suspect that when MHJ tries to sell her shares she'll end up having to sell them back to HYBE because I they will make it difficult for her to sell it to anyone else.
I predict NewJeans will have new comeback post MHJ that's even more successful than before.

5, 21, 22, 23 for asking and yes, what do you like to draw in terms of have you been passionate about ducks for a long time?
Oh, hi. Hmm…good questions, although you asked a little too much. Also, the questions have been changed under the ordinal letters of the alphabet rather than numbers, but never mind. I'm going!
5. (E) My blog started four and a half years ago (next year it will be five years since I've been on Tumblr), mostly out of dissatisfaction, and to join a new collective that has similar interests as me. Interestingly, I joined when it was Donald's 85th birthday. XD Yeah, I already enjoyed the Ducktales reboot back then (even though it disappointed me in a lot of things at the time), I was still sad that no one mentioned the other Duck media, especially when we talk about the comics, Quack Pack, The Legend of The Three Caballeros and I wanted to take that job into my own hands. So I posted various posts about other Donald Duck media and let me tell you, I succeeded in that. Unfortunately, due to numerous obligations related to the university and at home, there were times and often when I was away for a long time. Still, I'm grateful to the Ducktales reboot for reawakening my feelings of nostalgia and re-reading the Donald Duck comics I used to read when I was a little boy.
21. (U) Actually I am, but more that I am a Christian believer and that I believe in God the Creator, as well as in Jesus who saved us from our sins, as well as in the Holy Spirit. Sometimes I study and read the Bible and go to church. But I'm not a fanatical believer, plus I don't force anyone to believe what I believe. Everyone has the right to their own religion. But I don't like it when my faith is abused through bad mockery and attacks on being a believer.
22. (V) I don't know if you mean the person I love or me personally, but I will answer both. I like in a person who is very pleasant and kind, who likes to draw and respect others and someone who is close to me. And I like to draw, read, write, and sometimes ride my bike outside, when the weather is nice.
23. (W) I don't like it when someone copies me without asking me, without me being mentioned, I don't like it when they insult and when they lie, I especially don't like it when someone insults me in dirty ways, as well as abuses my name as something worst. And I don't like sweet-talking people, I don't like it when someone blocks me, just because we have different views, and I don't like it when someone breaks their promises (either mine or someone else's). And I don't like it when someone insults my religion.
And this particular question, to answer you, I've been drawing since I was young, certainly when I went to school, but I didn't like to draw and I often had terrible drawings. I'm talking about when I drew in the traditional way. I think I have the hardest time painting with water colors. As for drawing itself, and coming back to it, I started four years ago, unfortunately I drew mostly very badly, but over time I learned some methods (and now I practice) and perfected it. If you look at my first drawings and my current drawings, you will see a big difference. I try my best though. Now I need to practice drawing and coloring backgrounds as well as portraits. And as for the ducks, well, I've been watching the classic shorts and reading the comics since I was a kid, but when I was in my teens, I stopped. Yes, I watched a lot of cartoons. In return, the Ducktales reboot is ironically credited, and I've come to love the comics more than before, even collecting those comics. Either online or I buy them. However, I prefer the classics the most, because it is still the best that will always remain. The Legend of The Three Caballeros and re-watching Quack Pack and other cartoons made me even more devoted to ducks.
I hope I satisfied you with your answers. And yes, I tell others to feel free to ask me, if you are interested in something. And yes, those are my opinions and sorry if anyone is offended by this, it's not my intention, just stating my views.
And yes, HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

This may be a bit random, but I’ve been trying to figure out if I want to cement my own takes on nicknames for the common slate of AU skelebros (UT-UF-US-SF-HT).
On the one hand, using the defaults (eg, Blue and Black for US and SF Sans) is a shorthand that’s usually quickly understood. And it’s been long enough that it’s a pretty automatic association for me too, heh.
On the other... I do like the idea of being able to better differentiate my takes on the guys, especially with the Swap verses, as they’ve got some of the widest variation in depictions. Additionally, I like working with the HT guys, but my take on them is varied enough too, and I don’t quite like violent names being the ones that stuck in the long run - rather, that they’d change the unfortunate ones in the end. Especially bc I’m fond of the take that they came from yes, a violent/human eating sort of background, but they’re not... intending on murdering or anything now that they’re no longer in famine, even if they’re not as cuddly/sheltered from the necessity of violence to survive like their classic selves.
Hmmm...
Alright, I’ll put my thoughts on what I might stick to below a cut, for anyone who’s interested! Let me know too if you like the idea of different nicknames, or if you’d strongly prefer I stick with fandom-standard? It’d make a big difference!
Sidenote before I jump into it! One primary reason for my current musing on this is that they’ll come up in relation to Lilytale, too- and I want to make sure to separate my versions of them, heh. As well as give some of the... more maligned guys a second chance. ( ̄ヮ ̄|||)ゞ
In any case, here are my potential re-solidified nicknames for the guys, + how they chose them:
UT Sans: Sans Plain and simple - listen, he's lazy, he's tired, stars help him he's got a dangerous science machine to fix. And this is his timeline, he oughta have dibs, right? So... yes, he outcheated all the other guys who were also cheating when after a ton of arguing, they decided to pull straws. Which almost made it not cheating, and an unspoken rule to cheat in a way that didn't get caught... right? Yep, works for him.
UT Papyrus: Papyrus By default, the brothers agreed that whoever won the straw drawing would get their brother to keep their og name too, for simplicity's sake- so Papyrus got to keep his name too! He'll never admit how relieved he was when that happened, and determinedly didn't pay attention to the fact that his brother may or may not be a dirty, clever cheater.
UF Sans: Red Once it became obvious he wouldn't be able to be just 'Sans', he honestly didn't care too much. He’d been called Red before, actually, even in his home universe; it was a nickname when he was younger and not well known, something people would call after the scrappy youth protecting his own. It's his favorite color, the color of his magic too, so why not? Surprisingly, he ended up being the most laidback of all of the guys in this process, and settled on his first.
UF Papyrus: Vex Frankly, he got pissed when the nickname 'Edge'/'Edgelord' nearly settled on him by association when they were all fighting over who had the right to be called Sans/Papyrus. He insisted that he in fact was a master strategist and fighter, who always vexed his enemies, and deserved more respect! In the end, unable to think of anything else and a little frustrated that he didn't get to keep his name, he settled on Vex, rather liking the ring to it, as well as the origin.
US Sans: Caelum It's latin for sky/heaven/atmosphere! He didn't mind the idea of a color based nickname, and feels rather attached to the color blue... but the name didn't quite feel like a perfect fit, so he brainstormed for quite a while. Blue? Not quite... Navy? No, no, that's awkward... Indigo? Cooler, but not the right shade... Sky? Oooh, okay, getting there, but maybe needs a twist... Right about then is when his nerdery really started kicking in, thinking of all manners of synonyms and so on, and after talking with his brother he got inspired - why not latin? Caelum? Snap of the fingers, that's it! He'll be Caelum.
US Papyrus: Cider Honestly, he almost went with Terram - Caelum et Terram, y'know? Heaven and Earth? The matching made him chuckle, not to mention Latin is a dead language, and he's a huge literature nerd to boot... But Terram doesn't really roll of the tongue, and Terra was a bit too femme for him. Terris, maybe-? Another conjugation...? Hm, nothing was quite right, and he wasn't strongly invested if he was honest... Later, in the middle of drinking a cider, his favorite drink, Red cracked a joke about his rather autumnal orange outfit matching the cider he was drinking. It was the loosest association, but he chuckled and mentioned that might as well be his new name, given how much of it he drank. It stuck, and Caelum is still exasperated and secretly amused at the unfolded events that had his brother ending up ‘Cider’.
SF Sans: Sable He happened to be wearing all dark colors, his norm, admittedly, when transported to this universe; he also didn't mind the idea of a color-based name when Red chose his, and Caelum followed a similar enough trail of thought. After thinking about options, he decided that he liked the regality/commanding air of Sable better than something more simple. His bearing makes it suit him, not that most of the other guys would readily give him the satisfaction of admitting it.
SF Papyrus: Rus Had the second longest straw pull of the Papyri and claimed dibs on taking a nickname from his origin name. Decided a little lazily/a little fondly on Rus, and the other guys had to admit it fit him the most, even if Sable was rolling his eyes at him.
HT Sans: Zen Short for zenith, as he's the tallest of the Sanses; also a cross with zen, because he has a... laidback, zen appearance (until pushed). Sort of a jab from the other guys when they're mad, sort of a compliment. Ironically, he does seem to keep his cool on average the most... until, suddenly, he doesn't... but, well, details. It also sounds a little like "Sans"... minus the second 's'. Kind of? Eh, either way - it sounds enough like it that it helps him when he's spacing out, because something that sounds like his original name will drag his attention back better than a wildly different sounding nickname.
HT Papyrus: Lune On top of being rather nocturnal, he loves the moon, he thinks, even more than the sun, so after some thought he settled on this. If pressed, he'll also drily admit that he sees that many people think he's insane, or at least looks so, looming high above them, not unlike a haunting moon - so, the fact that it's a homophone for loon as in being loony, well... he can appreciate a little wordplay in embracing his reality. Mostly though, he's just got his skull tilted towards the night sky whenever he can.
#night rambles#night's headcanons#on the skelebros crew#lilytale adjacent kind of#i could be amenable to changing one or two of these too if any of them are too awkward... hmmmmm...#names are hard XD#the lilytale crew got the best names bc i love them and tried to personally name them first woops#XD#sorry skelebros i'm doin my best#(and also trying not to copy other creators personal names >v>;;;)#(there are a few I'm actually really partial too but refuse to step on toes lol so)#(respect)

Venitz Celliea Review
Taking a bit of a break with a more casual post for fun! This UTAU intrigued me because he has a deep voice that doesn’t quite fit his image. That’s not a diss at all, I actually love it when UTAUs are like that. The creator also has a female UTAU named So Yoon. They’re criminally underrated, go see their Youtube channel if you have time.
*Art by naff_san
Hear a Sample of Venitz Celliea
Bio
Name: 베니스 셀리아/Venitz Celliea (pronounced a bit like Venice Sell-e-a) Height: 178cm Weight: 62kg Birthday: December 24th Personality: Because he is introverted and shy, he has little change in expression and does not show himself well to others. Therefore, for those who have never met him before, he is seen as a person who is unfriendly and hard to understand. However, if you talk to him at least once, you will actually feel that he is polite to everyone and respects the other person.
Perhaps because he grew up in a scholarly family, he is calm and more mentally mature than his peers. He is also quite elegant and cultured. On the other hand, he was intelligent from an early age and was considerably smarter than others. In addition, he is so curious that he is so interested that he feels that his eyes are shining when there is a field that he is interested in. (His personality section was like 10 paragraphs but this is the gist of it)
Official Site
Venitz doesn’t have a homepage that I know of, I found him via a direct download on Bowlroll. A TOS can be found on naff_san’s profile. The voicebank is 407 MB when unzipped and comes with partially generated .llsm files.
First Impressions
Venitz has a deep voice with a neutral tone, but forceful pronunciation. His delivery is throaty and bassy, and sounds slightly more strained the higher it goes. His voice has a trace of a non-native accent.
The default resampler doesn’t flatter his voice well at all, and it kind of affected my initial impression. Other, newer resamplers make him sound leaps and bounds better.
Configuration
Venitz is a VCV recorded at D3, G3, and C4, with an estimated range of G2-A4. He comes with end breaths. The setparam generation files are left in their folders.
Venitz comes with a decent amount of “extra” samples for flexibility, there are v sounds, and others like hya and dyu. All the o samples are alternately aliased as を, but there are other Wo samples aliased as うぉ. Ve is also written like ヴぃぇ for some reason? If that’s correct then ignore this criticism, but I’ve never seen that before. Fa, fi, and fo are here, but are pronounced with a Japanese “h”. The reclist is pretty expansive at 190 samples, but the end breaths are the only really extraneous parts.
The oto uses a 1:2 ratio for preutterance/overlap, and much of it seems copypasted. For some reason, almost every line has a vowel ending like a -, with some of the aliases being blank even. It’s strange that the time was taken to copy each parameter, yet this unneeded stuff wasn’t deleted. There are also a lot of unnumbered duplicates for the ん samples.
There are some loud background noises present, like sounds of shuffling /rustling in G3′s v samples. Overall though, the audio is just very compressed. It makes the voice sound rather noisy in the editor.
With his voicetype, I personally like using him for songs that are low in the verses, but higher in the choruses or use falsetto for emphasis. His forecful pronunciation makes him useful for songs that need a little extra oomph. If you try him out feel free to show me!
My recommended flags: C10H0Y90F0
My recommended resamplers: TIPS, fresamp14, EFB-GT, moresampler
Final Thoughts
Venitz has a distinct voicetype and pretty good quality. I don’t really have time/energy to make a full cover with him so I hope someone else does. (〃 ̄︶ ̄)人 I finally have something to say when people ask for deeper/more bassy male UTAUs now cause I always forget the names of all the other ones!

Helloo i saw a tweet you made saying you recently watched a bunch of gay animes and i was wondering if you could perhaps make a list and post them on twitter? I'm always looking for anime to watch and i know your tastes align with mine. If it isn't too much of a bother perhaps? I hope you have loveky days!!!❤❤❤❤
Hey friend! I put off answering this, sorry, because my answers tend to be unnecessarily long and I was v tired when I got the original message. But if you’re still interested, here’s a lil rundown of some of what I’ve been watching/reading. In reference to this tweet, where I was watching a show that definitely isn’t gay but is kinda gay if you just squint the tiniest bit, which I’ve gotten used to doing.
If you follow me on twitter, most of these proooobably won’t be new? But I talk about/RT things on a scattered basis, so maybe there are some you haven’t checked out yet.
So, the canonical gay! I’m only going to list the ones I liked and/or remember most - my Quest For Gay Anime started two years ago, and I watched pretty much everything I could get my hands on, but at that point, there were only a few I loved enough to rewatch/buy/recommend. The list has gotten a little longer since then, unfortunately for my attention span and wallet.
(I’ll be honest, a lot of the really popular/older BL have too many consent issues for my tastes - I understand the context and all that, and no hate on anyone who loves stories that didn’t particularly appeal to me. But I’m including this note cause (a) if I don’t put a really well-known BL anime on this list that’s probably why (b) I’m gonna drop in a few that toe that line but I’ll try to include warnings where relevant.)

This is kinda where it all started. I saw a tweet going around with a trailer for a very soft, lovely movie about two boys falling in love, and I thought whaaaaat an actual gay story? Where they kiss? And I don’t have to just imagine it??
Still one of my top faves. It’s beautifully animated - like filming watercolors? It always makes me feel languid and happy. The story and characters are realistic, in a very kind, hopeful way, as these two navigate starting a relationship that neither of them expected. It’s available on Amazon video - I own a digital copy there, hah, as well as the physical blu-ray, because I watch it often enough to want both.
I also recommend the manga, although I’ve only recently discovered that apparently the story did not end after the first three volumes, so I can only recommend that far. (I’ve heard it, unfortunately, gets angstier, and it’s still incomplete? The first three volumes feel complete to me, so I’m happy to leave it there if so.)
The movie pretty much covers the first manga volume - it’s a very accurate page-to-screen translation - and there’s some really wonderful relationship building and exploration of family dynamics in the next two volumes.
HITORIJIME MY HERO (My Very Own Hero)
Another huge favorite that I have literally watched like 30 times at this point. Two gay couples, double the fun, although this pairing is by far my favorite.
I’ll direct you to my very long post on this topic for more information, but the short version is:
Warning: there is an age gap and student/teacher relationship, but it’s treated very thoughtfully and is directly addressed as part of the story. They have to navigate through how to make their relationship work (issues with friends, coworkers, society). And they didn’t meet as student/teacher - it’s a lot more complicated, with some fantastic family dynamics. There’s a lot of angst to Setagawa’s backstory that makes you really appreciate the happiness and love he finds with Kousuke & his whole family. (Many more details in my watch-this-anime post.)
The series is 12 episodes long, with a WONDERFUL (happy) ending that makes me cry LITERALLY EVERY SINGLE TIME. Gosh I love this show a lot. It packs some serious feels - I cry, I laugh, I cry again, but for happy reasons.
It’s from a manga, but I do not recommend the manga. The manga falls into a lot of the tropes that I personally don’t like; I think the anime does a much better job of tackling the complexity of their story and treating these two with the thoughtful nuance they deserve.
Can be found on Amazon; I bought the blu-ray, and it’s one of the exceedingly rare cases where I love both the sub and the dub. There are slight differences in translation that really makes it worth watching both.
GIVEN
Wow, this one. Available on Crunchyroll, 11 episodes with a movie coming soon.
It’s newer to my list, and it’s really, really good. Ive only read the first two volumes of the manga so far (with two more on preorder), because tbh I have trouble reading scanlations online and find it a lot more enjoyable to just wait for the official translations in paperback form.
So far the anime lines up pretty closely with the manga, so I do recommend both, although at this point I enjoy the anime more - partly because of some of the choices they make in rearranging/expanding scenes, and partly because it’s a story about a band, so it makes a huge difference to be able to actually hear the music.
And Mafuyu’s song is worth it. Wow. I listened to it on repeat for like two weeks after the episode first aired.
Uenoyama (the dark-haired stern-looking heart-of-gold character, I have a type), is my favorite. He is a MASSIVE disaster gay, and a lot of his scenes are absolutely hilarious. The dynamics between the characters aren’t what you’d expect - it’s amazing to watch the seemingly quiet Mafuyu come out of his shell and display his true personality - and there’s some really gritty, emotional material, too.
What’s fascinating about this one is that there are parallel stories going on about past loves and heartbreak, and how truly loving (and losing) someone doesn’t mean you can’t find happiness again.
(Warning and a spoiler: there is a suicide that happens before this story starts - Mafuyu’s ex-boyfriend - and while nothing about it is graphic, that event is central to Mafuyu’s story, so there are some weighty episodes. It ultimately leads to him meeting Uenoyama and joining the band. And finding himself again.)
The movie’s gonna focus more on the secondary couple, but I’m still excited to see more of them! And...more angst, I imagine, but hopefully a lot more happiness as well.
SARAZANMAI
Okay, fair warning: this show is weird.
I think if you’re familiar with Japanese folklore, particularly kappas, you might have a much better intro than I did, but considering the creator laughed about how much they got away with by hiding the weirder parts of the story during the initial pitch, I...am not sure about that.
It’s weird but I liked it a lot. I’m not even going to attempt to explain it in the space available here, but the wiki page has a decent summary if you’re curious before diving in.
The very, very condensed version is that the main characters are three middle school boys who get turned into kappas by the kappa prince, who sends them on missions to retrieve “dishes of hope” every episode. In the process, they learn more about themselves and each other, since each time they complete one of these missions, it results in one of their big secrets being spilled to the others.
I like the main trio (and there’s a gay subplot there, too, where one of the boys is in love with his best friend but doesn’t know how to tell him), but I started watching the show because of the “villains,” Reo and Mabu. They have a deeply angsty backstory that you don’t get to until the last couple episodes. Up until then, they have a transformation sequence every episode that ... yes, gets repetitive, Miraculous Ladybug-style, but I still sat and watched, entranced, every time.
One of the things I like about this anime is that while it is very, very gay, it’s not about being gay. It’s a fantasy story where several characters just happen to be gay. As much as I love romance (which the rest of these recs definitely have been), I like being able to see gay people (or kappas...) in different genres, just existing.
And if you can’t get into the show (11 episodes, available on Crunchyroll), there’s a spinoff manga about Reo and Mabu being disaster dads to a baby girl they find on a dish in the middle of the street. I think it’s a human AU (kinda?), but it’s super sweet and funny and I liked it a lot.
THE BETRAYAL KNOWS MY NAME

Okay, so this was an early favorite, and I rewatched it recently and laughed a lot about how massively dramatic it is, but I don’t care, I’m still into it.
We’re skirting the edge of “canon gay” here, because you never get an on-screen kiss, and it’s technically a shoujo manga. But...it was at the top of a lot of BL lists when I was first hunting for good stuff to watch, and the relationship between Yuki and Luka is deeply romantic (and achingly piningly good) and central to the story.
The title’s linked to one of Luka’s frequent lines: “I will never betray you,” which he earnestly tells Yuki at every opportunity he gets. Luka is an extremely powerful demon, and Yuki is part of an immortal (via reincarnation) clan that hunts demons. But in Yuki’s past life, they fell in love.
Yuki was, at that point and in previous lives, a woman, but something changed this time around: he was reborn as a man, and without any of his memories.
Luka, who waited for Yuki to be reincarnated so they could be together again, still remembers and still loves him. But he keeps his devotion on Yuki’s terms, refusing to force the memory of a relationship that Yuki might have wanted to forget.
There’s one particularly great scene where the leader of Yuki’s clan asks Luka if anything has changed - if they can still rely on Luka to stay by Yuki’s side and be his protector. “They have the same soul,” Luka says. Gender doesn’t matter. He loves Yuki. He’ll always love Yuki.
And Yuki, though he doesn’t remember loving Luka, begins to slowly, inevitably, fall in love again.
The anime is 24 episodes - while it doesn’t fully close out the story, it does have some closure, or at least a solid sense of an upcoming happy ending. (I own the DVD; I don’t think the show is currently available to watch online.)
There’s also a manga, which is beautifully illustrated, wow, the sheer level of detail in this blows me away. Which, unfortunately, was way too much work to maintain at that level and ultimately destroyed the author’s health, so the last few volumes get shorter and shorter and the story trickles to an unsatisfying conclusion.
I still love it a lot, though, and it’s another example of establishing a great relationship within the context of a much larger story - a sweeping, complicated fantasy epic.
HONORABLE MENTIONS
Those are my primary favorites, unless I’m forgetting anything (and for the purposes of this post, I’m leaving out things like Tiger & Bunny and Promare, which are very gay and embraced as such by the creators but also not something I’m comfortable including in a Definitely Canonically Gay, You Won’t Ever Be Disappointed By Future Reveals list). If I have the energy, I might make another post like this for those kinds of stories.
But there are a few others that I enjoyed, if not enough to buy copies of or collect merch for. These include:
No. 6
Dystopian, so definitely very dark and kind of visually disturbing in places (for instance, people rotting from mystery infections). There’s a central m/m romance and one kiss, but the ending is kind of an open one without a super happy conclusion. It doesn’t have high rewatch value for me - I’ve only ever watched it once and don’t really feel inclined to go back - but it's got good storytelling and is worth viewing.
Kizuna Koi No Kara Sawagi (Much Ado About Nothing OVA)
That last bit of the title is important to get you to the correct OVA, since there are different variations of this story. It’s been a long time since I tried the main anime, but I did not like it - I had major issues with its story, particularly with the sexual assault plotline. I did, however, love the OVA and have recommended it to people as something that can be watched independently.
There's still a little dodgy content in it (as with a lot of things in the BL genre), but it's mostly a lovely established relationship story with a lot of bittersweet feels, with flashbacks to how the couple got together.
It’s necessarily a "happy" story either, though, because they're in a loving, committed relationship in a society where they can't be open about that, and it takes a toll. They're doing their best to work through the difficulties together.
Ai no Kusabi
SERIOUS WARNINGS FOR THIS ONE.
It's about a society with "Blondies" as the elite ruling class and dark-haired "Mongrels" from the slums. There's slavery, plus some serious sexual consent issues...which I found extra prevalent in the newer version (prettier animation but much more cringey on the content).
The 90s version has rougher animation but a more interesting story. The relationship is still not necessarily healthy, but it reads as a lot more of a forbidden love BDSM relationship.
Even so, the ending is SUPER unhappy. I cannot emphasize that enough. I was watching all these things on my own without any warnings, so this one hit me really hard, and I couldn't stop thinking about it for days after. I’m not sure if I'd watch it again, but I've had interesting conversations with others who did.
I guess what I liked about it is that it’s a very different kind of story - and like I said earlier, it’s nice to have variety in genres. As long as every story isn’t dark and tragic, it’s worthwhile to sometimes experience ones that are told well. And weirdly (since this is not something I would watch with my family) it reminded me to some extent of the movies I grew up with - the 80s and early 90s had a lot of dark sci-fi, and my family really loved watching them, so there’s something...nostalgic about how disturbing it is? Thanks parents. At least this one’s gay.
Gakuen Heaven
To pull us back from the darker content, here’s one that I guess was adapted from a dating computer game. As far as I can remember, it was pretty free of cw; fun but not as emotionally engaging as some of the others. It’s pretty much just a fluffy story about a boys’ school on an island with a mystery plot and a romance.
MANGA RECS
I sprinkled some manga recs alongside the relevant anime, but here are a few others that I’ve only experienced in book form. (I’ve got one on my nightstand right now that I need to read, but if it’s good I’ll just update this post I guess, I’ve put this reply off for long enough.)
OUR DINING TABLE
Unlike a lot of the other manga I’ve read, this is a single volume, which means it has a nice, solid conclusion that wraps everything up wonderfully and doesn’t leave you any room to worry that the author will insert unnecessary drama down the line. (That’s an issue, ok? It happens a lot.)
A very soft, sweet romance that’s actually a lot more about building family - which is something that hugely appeals to me. Highly recommend. Loved it, bought it, will definitely reread it. I’d love to see it eventually made into a movie, like Doukyusei.
MY BROTHER’S HUSBAND
This is a hefty book - I ordered it after seeing a joke-tweet about the live action adaptation (which I haven’t been able to find to watch online). I was surprised by the size of the book but even more (pleasantly!) surprised by its contents. I’m not familiar with the author’s other works, although I’ve heard this is the uh....softest and sweetest of his writing. It’s honestly way more uplifting and healing than I was expecting.
Again, it’s largely about family: a quiet, very private Japanese dad dealing with a visit from his deceased (estranged) twin’s extroverted and cheery Canadian husband. This could go down some very dark paths, but it really doesn’t...there are some smatterings of homophobia mixed in, since that’s sort of the point, but there’s a lot of wonderful self-discovery and building new family bonds.
OUR DREAMS AT DUSK
Oh man. This series. Irene Koh (Legend of Korra comics illustrator) recommended it on twitter, and I picked up the first volume from my library and then could not stop. All four volumes are now out in official translations, and they’re so, so good.
These are definitely on the more realistic side - less of an idealized, prejudice-free view of the world, with more of an accurate picture of what it’s like to be not-straight in Japan.
And I phrase it that way because there’s a lot of variety in the characters in these books. The main character is gay - just coming to terms with the fact that he is, because life would be so much easier if he didn’t have a crush on the hot guy at school.
Content warning: it gets so bad at school, in fact, that he starts out the book planning to commit suicide. It’s dark. But it gets much better, and by the final volume he’s grown so much in his confidence and sense of self-worth - because he becomes a part of a community of other people who teach him that it’s okay to be himself.
And all the other storylines are wonderful. Some of the other characters you get to know include a trans guy, an ace woman, two girls who (spoilers!) get married in the fourth volume, and a much older gay guy who’s been with his partner for several decades.
It’s not a fluffy story - there’s some really tough material throughout, and people aren’t always nice, even the ones you really, really want to be - but they also learn and work hard at communicating with each other. I think these are pretty extraordinary books. Beautiful and heartbreaking but also deeply affirming.

So in-between writing fanfiction, working on my novel, work, the upcoming online semester, keeping the house clean, and getting my ass repeating handed to me in Dark Souls: Remastered and Dark Souls III, my increasing disdain for how terrible, unimaginative, and terribly imaginative some ‘fans’ of particular properties can be. And it’s not just from one particular instance, it’s from several occurrences over the years.
Yesterday, I was watching Maj0r Lee’s video reaction to terrible reviews of Final Fantasy 7: Remake. Side note, I’ve respected ML for not being afraid to speak his mind, no matter how much it goes against the nerd fan hivemind. And one thing that quickly got on his and my nerves about the reviews was how repetitive they were.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qR-1NTCwLr8
“Tetsuya Nomura pulled a Kingdom Hearts and ruined the great story of the original FF7.”
“Nomura and friends turned FF7 into Kingdom Hearts-tier garbage.”
“I was going to give FF7: Remake a ten out of ten until that terribly ending turned it into a zero.”
Tetsuya Nomura this, Kingdom Hearts that, something something the original story was basically the bible. The same points repeated over and over again. It’s like listening to all the same complaints about the Last Jedi. I’d probably take those complaints seriously if it didn’t feel like the same arguments were being copy-pasted over and over because that generates more clicks on YouTube.
If I sound a bit salty, it might be because my favorite video game franchise (BTW, I would never say KH is flawless) is being used as a go-to example of bad writing. This must be how the Call of Duty fans feel all the time.
But there was one particular ‘review’ that pissed me off to no end;
“The more and more I think about it, I feel like Nomura and co. have little to no respect for the fans that have given their work this love, and perhaps even harbour some contempt for them wanting to to see their childhood imagination and memories of the story realised as they deserve to be.
There is a certain arrogance to twisting this world and story to their own whim, as if to say that “this is our world, our characters, what you fans think means nothing to us, we can do what we want with them and you can get fucked if you disagree”.”
You know what this reminds me of? Those laughable Anti-Horikoshi blogs that use the trans flag as their background to supposedly ‘protect’ the female characters of My Hero Academia from their ‘disgusting’ creator. Those lunatics that posted themselves burning their copies of Tokyo Ghoul because the main character banged his female love interest and called Ishida a homophobe. Or the the worst episode of South Park where Trey Parker and Matt Stone showed their disapproval of Kingdom of the Crystal Skull by having Indy getting horrifically sodomized by George Lucas and Steven Spielburg.
This might be hard for some idiots to understand, so let me spell it out for you; YOU DO NOT OWN A STORY OR CHARACTERS JUST BECAUSE YOU ARE A “FAN”!
In the end, writers have their own ideas for how storylines, character progression, and character relationships will turn out. If all creators ever did was pander to the fickle desires of the most rabid ‘fans’, all media would be nothing but self-referential bullshit. Hell, we already example how bad this would be. It’s called ‘How the Last Jedi should’ve ended!’
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rCB8DUGpYQQ
While this video was clearly made to take the piss out of TLJ, it ironically demonstrates my fucking point! This is also why I am 100% certain that we’re never getting a Dark Souls/Bloodborne movie or tv show. Because any interpretation or story that dares to go against the most poorly thought out fan theories will get ripped apart by absolute lunatics with nothing better to do with their time.
And another thing, can we stop treating stories like they’re fucking scripture?! There’s a reason that the ‘Stations of the Canon’ trope is derided by many authors. I can probably name all the Naruto fanfics that aren’t just the same as the original story just with slightly altered dialogue and everyone wearing slightly-different clothing. And I was guilty of this too, until I realized how much more fun it was to go completely off the rails.
Not the mention that this kind of thinking leads to people holding stories to such a ridiculous degree that any sequel or retelling that fails to live up to those unreasonable expectations will get treated like a personal attack and a dumpster fire not even worthy to roast expired marshmallows over.
I’m not saying you should never criticize a story, game or comic for its actual flaws, but don’t try to make it into a sob story like ‘How dare the creator or owners of this story like go about it what they think is the best! These guys are worse than HITLER!’ Hate to break to ya, but no ones goes into a story or long-running franchise to purposely piss off the fans. They’re doing it because they got a story to tell...or to make money. Or both.
And try to come up with your own critiques instead of just copy and pasting the same arguments over and over again.
“Fairy Tail is terrible because all the girls have big tits and skimpy outfits.”
“I’ve heard all that before. Do you have any other complaints?”
“No, but that’s what everyone else is whining about.”
“Well then, piss off and come back when you actually form your own goddamn opinion.”
And I’m not saying that if your problem if a story is the same as someone else’s, then it's invalid. But at least try to say it in a way that doesn’t come across as just copying what the guy before ya said.
One last ramble before I go back to writing and getting attacked by video game monsters; can we stop with all the hyperbole? There are only so many times I can hear the phrase, “This is the worst thing ever” before it loses all meaning. Yes, I’m sure the newest Call of Duty game is worse than Santa Claus Saves the World. That the newest Star Wars movie is worse than A Serbian Film. Or that Black Clover is worse than Eiken.
And that argument is especially soured when the phrase ‘raped my childhood’ eventually rears its ugly head. It was outdated and terribly tasteless when Doug Walker reviewed Batman and Robin, and it’s gotten more disgusting and childish as a phrase over time.
Anyway, that’s my delusional rambling done for the day. Hope you all are safe and comfortable. Have a nice day!

I haven't seen All These Aus so I cant really talk about how respectful they may or may not be but - fandoms using the same ideas/tropes isn't an uncommon thing. Like yes credit if you're pulling the majority of the story/set up (like in this instance where its not something v basic like 'hlvrai but college') but I don't think its necessarily a bad thing. Like will some stuff be unoriginal, yeah, but thats.. kind of the thing that there's always going to be unoriginal fancontent (1/2)
“Like a fandoms content is really self interactive and derivative off of each other. Like I get what you're saying w 'make your own ideas' but this is something that is also happening with other universes/ideas I've seen in the hlvrai fandom. And w every big fandom, especially ones with a young fanbase. Like ik you're saying 'you don't have to stop' but this is also a result of fan community working off of fellow fan ideas. Not everyone is gonna be skilled enough to build much onto the idea (2/2) Which isn't saying that people shouldn't try or whatever. Point is really just this echoe chamber deal happens w every fandom really and especially with hlvrai's young fans its gonna be more often and with less instances that add much. Its hard to avoid that sort of thing though without discouraging a fandom's collaboration and spreading/sharing of ideas which is what results in some amazing building contributions, but also the echo chambers. (3/2) [sorry theres gonna be 1 more, I know] I actually 100% get the frustration and I've tuned out of the tags bc it has turned into that echoe chamber of like ask blogs and some other stuff. But I don't think this is something malicious, its really just... people doing usual fandom stuff of seeing an idea they like and making their own thing with it, and in this instance has led to this, but I don't think it's really deserving of a finger wagging or shaming just bc its not producing great content. (4/2)” ---------- yup, dont disagree with you there; ive seen this kind of thing plenty in other fandom spaces and my intention in sharing my thoughts on the matter was not to shame young artists from deriving inspiration from the work of others, but in this specific instance there's almost an over-saturation of this one idea of which is very articulately crafted by the original writer, quote “protag gets trapped in an old fashioned computer program and interacts with the cast in a 90s webcore environment, cast tries to help protag escape the computer with the eventual help of an outside source partially at fault for the main antagonist - and by extension the protagonist’s plight, in initially helping work on the program, among other things”. this is a very hand wave-y synopsis but u get the idea almost every re-imagining of this au follows that exact formula, tells almost the exact same story with little deviation, and that under normal circumstances would not be a bad thing for most of these swap aus if there werent, like, literally a dozen of them now. i know for absolute certain no one copy of this idea has ever had malicious intention, and it’s definitely not any one particular person’s fault for contributing to any degree, but it does tend to encourage a bit of piggybacking off of the ideas of other people by copying, rather than taking inspiration from a given piece of media and applying it to their own work, which isn’t necessarily a problem with an immediate (or necessary) solution, if there even is a solution to begin with as i’ve said i’m not asking people here to drop everything they’re doing and start working on something different, at this rate the hlvrai fandom is so saturated with hundreds of au ideas that if i were to ask you to name one completely random idea offhand i could probably find at least one art piece or a blog for it by now - and that on it’s own is entirely fine! multiple renditions of a similar concept is fine, so long as it isn’t a premise as hyperspecific as y2k’s, imo i think a good example of “same concept, personal rendition” that’s been relatively harmonious (from what i’ve seen at least) has been the merfolk aus. ive seen at least 3 different fics for that on ao3 all of which i follow and they take the same general ideas (and mer species, oftentimes) and run with it in completely different directions. there are probably tons of other writers and artists for that medium too and i think its fucking great! its really awesome to see peoples individual takes on a concept like that, au wise, and while the core concept is the exact same there’s not too much overlap in environmental premises the issue i take with people doing similar for the likes of y2kvr is that y2kvr in and of itself is a very unique take on the general, webcore “trapped in a computer/game/etc” theme, it has it’s own unqiue premise, nd i feel like people have overall honed in more on said premise and setting rather than the core concept itself, which has churned out a lot of spinoffs of something much more hyperspecific per result. in general i think people have taken sub-aus a bit too far for this specific concept and i wanted to try and maybe discourage anyone else from jumping on the train at this rate without permission, since mothra has pretty clearly expressed a sense of discomfort towards it now regardless of my thoughts and opinions on the matter comparative to others, at the end of the day it’s more important to listen to and respect the wishes of the creator, whether it be asking permission first or holding off entirely from here on out . thank you for the ask(s)!

A Peek into the Indie Writer World – Part V: Presenting as a Professional
Also available on s-n-arly.com, should that prove a more viewer-friendly venue.
For the first article in this series, check out Part I. Or if you just missed the previous article, check out Part IV.
⁂
As an independently published writer, you are a professional and it’s in your interest (and in the interest of your fellow indie writers) that you present as a professional. We aren’t so far removed from the era where self-published authors were automatically dismissed as ‘not good enough for real publishing.’ While the majority of the population now recognizes indie authors as professionals, you’ll still encounter people who need to be convinced.
How do you get taken seriously? What can you do to ensure the image you’re broadcasting is professional?
The key places where your professionalism comes into play, in bullet format for those with very little time:
Website
Social Media
Email
Live Networking
Book Covers
Book Content
The more specific details regarding those key places to put your professionalism in place:
Website
A website is a must, even if it’s minimalist. Other than finding your books on sites like Amazon, this is one of the top places people will look to see how legit you are (or appear to be). This can include potential customers, the media, library purchasing departments, and schools or conferences looking for speakers.
Spring for the domain registry
Makes you easier to find
Implies greater dedication to your writing career
The cost is often bundled in with website hosting services (make sure you own the domain, so you can switch services and take it with you)
Go with a theme and colors that will speak to your audience
Hire someone to set things up if you don’t have the skills to do it yourself
Include or incorporate high quality photos
Your own if you have them
If using others’ photos, have the proper permission and credit as required
Use open source or free stock photography sources, crediting as required
Keep it current and engaging
Minimal is okay
About page – information about you the writer, genre, areas of expertise, and anything that will help your audience relate to you
Publications – your publishing history and/or where to purchase your work
Contact page – can be as simple as an email link or a web form
Consider a built-in blog for dynamic content
Announcements, appearances and news
Release information
Teasers
Social Media
Blogs and social media can help you build up and engage with your audience. Make sure you’ve picked a platform that hits your target readers. You don’t have to spend hours every week on a blog or forum if that’s not your thing, just keep it relevant and regular. A mostly dead Tumblr or Twitter won’t do you any favors.
Ensure that your interactions and posts are professional.
Avoid over-sharing or inappropriate assumptions of intimacy
The internet is forever; consider whether your posts could come back to haunt you
Approach controversial material in a way that is consistent with or related to your writing philosophy or your work
Eg: My blog includes real world social and political issues that are reflected in my stories and my approach to world building
Be careful not to alienate your audience with content that has no bearing on your work
Do not bully others (yes there are writers who do this) and engaging in flame wars will likely reflect poorly
If you mess up, damage control involves a real apology and future caution
Present yourself in the way you want your fans to see you
Be friendly and open to interactions if you want fans to find you approachable
Be a bit aloof or distant, if you’re aiming for more space
Be cautiously prickly if that’s who you are, but keep in mind that being an asshole will only chase fans away
Email
You should establish an email account specifically for your writing. This doesn’t have to run through your own domain if that doesn’t fit your budget. Select your email address carefully.
Easy to share and remember
Matches your author name or what you write
Doesn’t feel too casual unrelated to your writing work
Live Networking
Take advantage of the opportunities to network with readers and other writers in person. This can result in a valuable peer group, name recognition, and readership. While participating in these activities, you don’t need to wear a suit and schmooze like venture capitalist to present as a professional. Look up photos of these events and see what people tend to wear, and find something in your wardrobe that works and is comfortable for you.
Conventions – most genres have events where fans and creators get together
Volunteer and participate in programming you have an interest or expertise in
Attend the parties and meet people
Conferences – many genres have events for creators to discuss topics of interest and build their craft
Attend meet-ups or lunches
Readings – these can be held in bookstores, libraries, and at events like conventions and conferences
Prepare and practice your piece
You are in the limelight, be sure to shine
At any of these events, socialize with people you don’t know, even if that’s hard for you. You don’t need to meet everyone and you don’t have to try to impress people with exaggerations or lies. Just be yourself, unapologetically, and try to have interesting conversations. Listen at least as much as you talk, if not more. Swap contact information with people you may want to keep in touch with, and do follow up with them on social media.
Book Covers
Your book cover functions as your advertisement of the work; it sells the book. This is one of the places where a lot of indie authors make mistakes that result in an amateurish and unprofessional appearance. You can search online for “bad book covers” to get hundreds of examples of covers that have done more harm than good, and yes, some of them have been produced by big publishers.
If you don’t have the skills to design your covers, it’s in your interest to pay someone to do this. If you do have the skills to create your own covers, it’s still a good idea to run your drafts by a group of trusted individuals to identify any horrible mishaps you may have missed.
Book Content
The final piece of presenting yourself as a professional, is ensuring that your printed work meets the standards in the industry. This includes ensuring that you’ve told the best story you can, and that it is as free of spelling and grammatical errors as possible. It can be very helpful to get constructive feedback from fellow writers or beta readers, in case you’ve missed something. If editing isn’t your strong suit, paying a copy editor is not a bad idea.
In addition to the story itself, you also need to ensure your story looks good on the page, whether it’s digital or print. Pay attention to layout guidelines as these can influence whether the book looks professionally produced.
Margins – top, bottom and outside edges
Gutter – inside edges near the fold
Story title and author name in headings, often alternating
Page number in the footer
Printed work also needs properly set up front matter.
Title page, on a right page
Copyright page, on a left page, usually the other side of the title page
Acknowledgments, on a right page
A blank left page, unless your acknowledgments run two pages (which should be avoided in fiction)
Table of contents (TOC), on a right page
First page of the story, on a right page (there may be a blank left page between the TOC and the story’s first page)
Front matter can determine whether your book meets requirements for wide distribution.
Most of your steps for presenting as a professional don’t have anything to do with your actual writing, and it may be easiest to think of it as the marketing side of the indie writer’s job. It’s often easier to start out with your level of caution and professionalism set a bit higher than you think you need, as it’s unlikely to offend anyone. As you get more comfortable with the various venues, you can assess and adjust if your default is too far in one direction or another.

HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT THE CHANGES COMING TO YOUTUBE ON JANUARY 1ST?
Watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pd604xskDmU
If the link is broken just copy paste it. If you don’t want to, my link is broken, or you can’t do it for some reason, let me lay down the gist of things. Youtube was fined 170 million dollars recently. 136 million went to the FTC and 34 million to New York state. Hang in here, this is going to affect the youtube community real soon. Youtube was fined for violating COPPA, otherwise known as the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act.
It gave info from children to advertisers for targeted ads. This goes against COPPA. I am not here to debate the ethics and morality of what youtube has done. What I’m here to do is tell you what is going to happen as far as I know. If a channel is deemed kid friendly then they have to get rid of targeted ads. They could also be demonetized among other things. Losing targeted ads is a big deal because according to the video it is 80-90% of a channels revenue which is a huge deal, even to big youtubers. People could be losing their jobs.
They decide usually decide if a channel by these four things: Aimed at kids. Animated characters, cartoons, toys. Child audience. Activities children enjoy. This includes roblox, fortnite, and… Minecraft. I absolutely love minecraft youtubers and I don’t want to see them disappear. Animators as well will take a big hit. PEOPLE COULD BE LOSING THEIR CHANNELS.
Youtube has been a big part of my life for a long time. It’s been almost three years. That doesn’t sound like a while, but I’ve changed and matured a lot over that time. I had seen a non minecraft Popularmmos video, then one of my sisters introduced me to a video that I can say with absolute certainty changed my life. It sounds dramatic for something so simple.
It was only a playthrough of a minecraft map, and the video was by Popularmmos. From there I must have watched hundreds of hours of minecraft videos by that channel. At least three survival series and almost all of every kind of video, minecraft or not. I think it took me around two years of near constant watching to finally get bored. I didn’t watch much youtube for a while. Somehow I ended up watching Aphmau, which introduced me to fandoms and shipping. I’ve watched all of Mystreet except for the last season.
I fell out of youtube for a while, but with fandoms and fanfictions I wasn’t too bored. I have read so much fanfiction at this point, it is really enjoyable. On youtube I mostly just listened to music, but then my sister (same one!) introduced me to Grian. He was doing survival on a server, and I was instantly hooked. I showed my sister, and we both still watch his videos to this day, though I’m behind.
Youtube introduced me to a lot of the internet and fanfiction. They have really helped make me who I am today. I’m terrified of losing them. Sure, this won’t change Tumblr or Archive of Our Own, but most of the fandoms I look at or the fanfiction I read is based off of minecraft youtubers. I still can’t comprehend how much my life could change because of something so simple as privacy laws.
The channels that remain won’t be the same, and will probably have taken on a darker, more adult theme in order to survive this purge. And not all of them will survive. Not all of them will be able to afford to do youtube. I can think of more than thirty minecraft youtubers of the top or my head even if I don’t watch their videos or know their channel names. I play minecraft because of youtube.
I don’t want to lose the minecraft youtubers I watch, and I don’t want other people to lose something that gives them so much joy. I don’t want the content creators to lose something so dear, so personal to them either. I don’t want them to lose their jobs, to lose their channels, or to have to change the way they act or talk or the videos they make. People have been thinking about putting a string of expletives at the start of their videos to prove that they aren’t child friendly.
I don’t want this to happen. I don’t want people to be so desperate, so helpless that this is their only choice. I want them to be themselves. And I want people to be free to love them for it. To enjoy their videos. I don’t know how to help. Maybe if channels collaborated, or maybe if they did sponsored videos, or maybe if they did an absolute truckload of non-targeted ads. I don’t know how to fight the law. Please, spread news about what’s going on. Maybe people can help fund them, so they can bring joy to others. Maybe, maybe, maybe. We don’t just need maybe’s or what if’s or if things had happened differently. We need to do something. Every revolution starts with a person, with an idea. An even the wildest things can happen if just believe. If you just try. Maybe one person by themselves can’t do much. But if we all stand beside each other, than we can move mountains. And we won’t have to do it alone.
#Mary#I legit teared up over this#please spread the word#we need to do something#Or at least prepare ourselves and other people#COPPA#FTC#January 1st#january first#jan 1#minecraft youtubers#rant#targeted ads

Homecoming ~Morenatsu Revisited~ (Release #1)
Happy holidays, everyone!
It's been a long development process, but we've finally made it! Me and the rest of Stormsinger Studios are proud to bring you the first release of Homecoming!
After some extensive pre-release testing and a stream preview courtesy of our friend Deckerlink, we feel it's finally ready for the public. A lot of hard work and dedication has gone into this project, and I personally couldn't be more proud of the results so far. We hope all of you enjoy the experience as much as we've enjoyed making it!
As stated in previous posts, Homecoming is a radical reimagining of Morenatsu, so please understand what it actually is. Going in, be prepared for many in-progress elements, especially on the art side of things. Homecoming is a ground-up remake of the Morenatsu we love, and many artistic liberties have been taken with the source material. We know that isn't to everyone's preference, but the intent of Homecoming is to provide a new, updated experience for old fans and newcomers to Morenatsu. For most of us on the development team, Morenatsu was a first experience coming to terms with who we are, and we want to provide the best experience possible for people who are in the same situation as we were all those years ago. If even one person plays our game and learns to love themselves for who they are on the inside, well...I consider that a victory.
A-Anyway, links are after this next section, where I'm updating the FAQ I made way back when we first announced this project.
Have a good rest of the year!
~ Dzahn
+++++ FAQ +++++
1. What is Homecoming?
A. Homecoming is a ground-up recoding of what we've already finished for Revisited. We're also increasing the game's resolution to a widescreen format, so everything should look cleaner and more organized. Essentially, think of this as a soft reboot for the Revisited project and a remake for Morenatsu as a whole.
2. Why stop developing the old version?
A. We believed it was a necessary step forward. Many issues started mounting as we developed Revisited, such as pressure from hardcore fans of the original to not change, disregard for the hard work we've put into the project, and resulting bloated code/file size trying to accommodate everyone. Starting fresh gives us the opportunity to make the experience we can feel proud of, ensuring every aspect stays consistent and the best it can be.
3. Will this change the story?
A. Yes, quite a bit, but ideally still keeping enough that it "feels" like Morenatsu. Revisited originally started out as a project to bring Morenatsu to a more accessible platform and correct grammatical errors. Along the way, it morphed into a project that tried to update the stories and give them more emotional depth. The same quality of writing you see in Revisited will continue on into Homecoming. We are embracing the “adaptation” aspect of the project, though. This means that areas where we feel there needs to be a change, such as the inclusion of female sprites, we will be making adjustments. Entire routes from the original are being rewritten from scratch to match the quality of routes released later in the game's lifespan (Kounosuke, Shun, Kouya).
4. You keep using the word "adaptation". What do you mean by that?
A. Like when your favorite movie gets a modern remake, or an old classic television show gets a new revival, we see Homecoming as an opportunity to remake Morenatsu and give another spin on the classic storylines.
5. What does this mean for us who want the old art, music, and storylines?
We're making Homecoming because we love Morenatsu and feel another artistic direction will achieve the themes we're aiming for. We're not trying to spite anyone, as rumors have stated.
Other projects have popped up who meet the "don't change anything" expectations better than we ever could. Stormsinger Studios won't be the ones doing this for you, but if you want to experience the game the original creators intended, I highly recommend checking out rtlstien's Revival port: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/26153752/
6. When can we expect updates for Homecoming?
A. We're all very busy people. Even this first release took a lot longer than I anticipated. Since we're not on any payment plans like Patreon (and have no desire to be), game updates are going to be on the old fashioned "when it's done" schedule. We'll try to keep you up to date in places like FA and Twitter, but due to our crazy schedules it would be foolish to force strict deadlines.
7. What has changed going from Revisited to Homecoming?
A. Homecoming aims to remake Morenatsu with a different goal. We desire to make a game that connects with people personally, makes them feel like things will get better in life...because eventually everything does. There is a light at the end of the tunnel, and we're restructuring Morenatsu to better achieve that theme.
Coming from Revisited, Homecoming will feature new sprites, CGs, music, sound effects...basically, new everything! The resolution has increased to a widescreen format, so everything has the chance to look better and feel more modern. As stated before, the storylines have been updated to aim for a theme of "Hope". Finally, most Gallery features from Revisited will be ported over to Homecoming over time, though they won't necessarily be there at first.
8. Why is the protagonist an Arctic Fox now?
A. I get this one a lot, so I'll copy/paste my most recent answer to this question: I've been pretty apprehensive about the species change (and writing out humans in general) because I knew it would be hands down the most controversial aspect of the game. So far it's been very polarized, which I expected, but I've also seen plenty of people come around to the idea as the days progress.
I wanted to remove humans from the setting because it does two things for me: It makes worldbuilding easier with not having to explain why a vastly inferior species (humans, as written in the OG) are able to coexist with superpowered beastmen (allowing me to better justify reasons why these characters would love Hiroyuki in the first place), and the concept of "if everyone is furry, nobody is", which is to say that it's up to the reader to interpret everyone the way they wish. If you want to see the characters as abstracted humans, then you're more than able to. If you want to see them as humanoid representations of their species, you're more than welcome to as well.
In short, I made the decision to remove humans from the setting because I believe it gives me more room to write interesting characters and scenarios. It provides a different perspective on things that the original game didn't have, and I believe that's reason enough to justify the change. Keep in mind, Homecoming is a "remake" and not everything is going to be (or even intends to be) exactly the way it was in the source material.
== Additional response from Frostclaw: One of the biggest things people tend to ask is "Why an arctic fox?" and though Dzahn answered the reason we made him a kemono, it wasn't exactly stated why we made him an arctic fox in particular. The truth is, we were looking for a species that wasn't represented as much in Morenatsu. Ultimately, fox was chosen, which seemed to go well, as foxes generally tend to be cute, albeit rather silly. Given that it went with Hiroyuki's personality, it just seemed to fit. However, the suggestion to make him an arctic fox was mine, for a few reasons:
1. The yuki portion of his name. Yuki, as some people may or may not be aware, is Japanese for snow. 2. Arctic foxes are an uncommon sight in Japan (though you can see a few at Zao Fox Village). They aren't native to the region. 3. Hiroyuki is extremely sensitive to the heat. Since arctic foxes have a thicker coat of fur, it fits well to make Hiroyuki an arctic fox.
As it stands, Hiroyuki is a set species, and there are no plans to allow for a species change (as that would require intensive programming and rewrites of story elements). Additionally, his kitsune heritage also will be playing an important part to the story. I can't say much about it now, but please look forward to it sometime in the future.

Reading Laterally and Evaluating 9/11 Conspiracy Theory
Introduction:
The term “fake media” has been highly popularized over the recent years. It has gained more popularity and has been used as a loose term thanks to the internet, technology advancements, social media that popularize it. Though, the term has been subjected to a lot of ownership, skepticism and criticism throughout the recent years and has only been strayed away from its original definition. In this day and age, it is important now more than ever to analyze and make sure that we are spreading credible, factual and scholarly news sources and information that can be backed up with statistics, science and hard evidential truth. Given that the online news sites and social media channels such as Twitter provide us with our daily U.S. and World news, we have to make sure we are not being misled by the opinions of others but rather presented with the facts and truth. Imagine if...
Goals:
The goals for this blog is to dive deeper into analyzing the credibility of a news source such as social media outlets or online news sites. I will focus my attention on Twitter and use online sites to try to see if I am able to verify the source as being credible or not. Throughout this process, I will look into a given news topic and ask/answer these two questions:
1. How to establish a legitimate source?
2. How to read laterally throughout websites?
Terms/ Concepts to Know:
Let me fill you in on some very important key terms to know before we get started:
1. Infowar: The use of computer technology to disrupt the activities of a state or organization; cyberwar and/or The use of computer technology to disrupt the activities of a state or organization; cyberwar. (Oxford Dictionary)
2. Lateral reading: Analyzing the author’s qualifications or trustworthiness of sites by evaluating them through multiple and thorough research, using other sites and sources in order to search if that specific website is credible or not
3. Legitimacy: Ability to be defended with logic or justification; validity.
4. Sources: A place, person, or thing from which something originates or can be obtained.
Important Websites to Help You Fact-Check Your Sources:
I’m really trying to help ya’ll out here by making a list of credible websites. How do I know they’re credible? Because I’m always right (As some news outlets love to say).
Jk. But on some real, according to https://webliteracy.pressbooks.com/chapter/basic-techniques-domain-searches-source-checks-whois/ , these are all credible domain search websites such as:
1. (insert full website name) -site:(insert full website name
2. https://whois.icann.org/en/lookup?name=motherjones.com
3. https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/
Alex Jones, the content creator of Infowars, (what does he do)….In order to demystify infowars on 9/11, such as Alex Jones’ conspiracy theories on 9/11. First off, I want to define the word “infowars”. According to Oxford Dictionary, it is defined as “The use of computer technology to disrupt the activities of a state or organization; cyberwar.” and “Propaganda war waged via electronic media.”
Reading Laterally and Fact checking 9/11 Conspiracy Theory:
Let me tell you guys what I did when I ran into one of Alex Jones’ videos on his 9/11 attack conspiracy theory:
So I ran into this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8Hk1-BpXO8
In this video Alex Jones is going off and on about the 9/11 terrorist attack and how it was staged by the government etc. First of all, I do not know who Alex Jones is and I don’t know what is real or not real about what he is saying. This is where lateral reading comes in.
Step 1:
So what I do when I see this is, I check the account and the profile of the person who posted the video on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/user/911REICHSTAG/about
Go ahead and check it out. It seemed to me as he was trying to inform people about terrorism and how the government was linked to most of them. He also had other videos on 9/11 conspiracy theories.
Step 2:
So when I saw his page, I got a sense of what this person was about, no judgement, it’s all chill. So I go back to the original video that I was looking at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8Hk1-BpXO8 and I decide to look at the description below the video.
I notice that it refers to the link https://www.prisonplanet.com/ and I decide to copy/paste it and check it out. Go on y'all take a look and explore the page for yourselves.
Step 3:
The first thing I see is the top part of the page which says “Alex Jones’ Prison Planet”. I’m going to pretend I don’t know who Alex Jones is and i’m going to
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alex_Jones
After I learn about who Alex Jones is, what he does and what he’s about, I decide to check out his “Notable work” section and click on where it says “infowars” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/InfoWars
So i decide to google “Alex Jones infowars” and his website appears https://www.infowars.com/
Step 4:
So I don’t know about you guys but so far, https://www.prisonplanet.com/ and https://www.infowars.com/ seem and look like any other news websites. So I google “New York Times and 9/11” and I get: https://www.google.com/search?source=hp&ei=CmDHXIPKEcT3-gSi9LuIBQ&q=new+york+times+and+9%2F11&btnK=Google+Search&oq=new+york+times+and+9%2F11&gs_l=psy-ab.3..0i22i30l10.718.7995..8124...4.0..0.172.3050.12j16......0....1..gws-wiz.....0..0i131j0j0i3j0i22i10i30.cI2-z7e8EEw
I click on the first link which is: https://archive.nytimes.com/www.nytimes.com/packages/html/nyregion/9-11imagemap.html?pagewanted=all
Step 5:
I also go on twitter and on the search bar type in “Alex Jones 9/11” and click the “news” tab and I get: https://twitter.com/search?f=news&vertical=default&q=alex%20jones%209%2F11&src=typd
Step 6:
I click the first post which is from “The Hill” and then go to their Twitter page. I check to see that they have a blue check mark which means that they are “Twitter Legitimate”. I go to their website: https://thehill.com/ and take a look around. The website looks legit too!
Step 7:
Last but not least, I gather all of the websites that are linked to Alex Jones’ name and that are under his name and use https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/ to see if they are credible and to see how biased they are. This is what I found:
1. The Hill: Left Center biased. It’s factual reporting is high, Overall, The Hill slightly Left-Center biased based on story selection that very slightly favors the left and High for factual reporting due to proper sourcing.
2. PrisonPlanet: Conspiracy-pseudoscience. Conspiracy level is Tin Foil Hat and right wing biased. Pseudoscience level is moderate.
3. Infowars: Conspiracy-pseudoscience. Overall, InfoWars/Alex Jones is a crackpot, tin foil hat level conspiracy website that also strongly promotes pseudoscience. The amount of fake news and debunked conspiracy claims, as well as extreme right wing bias, renders InfoWars a non-credible source on any level.
4. New York Times: Left Center Biased. Overall, we rate the New York Times Left-Center biased based on word and history selection that moderately favors the left, but highly factual and considered one of the most reliable sources for information due to proper sourcing and well respected journalists/editors.
Step 8:
So now that we have seen what these news websites and sources are about and what their biased is. For the most part, the websites are all right wing biased and we can conclude that they are not credible news sources. The only two news websites that are credible sources are The Hill and New York Times. The link on The Hill was about a controversial blog that was posted by Joy Reid on Alex Jones’ movie “Loose Change 9/11”. The Hill describes the controversy and how it is not the first time she posts controversial content on her blog. The New York Times on the other hand, reported what happened during 9/11 and the fact that they were terrorist attacks. However there are scholarly articles that make sense of how it would be mistaken by some actions taken by other people in regards to correlations between the U.S and certain extremist groups.
Your Turn:
Try reading laterally by finding out the author, and the credibility of the authors/website that I’m posting, critically thinking and bringing forth facts as to U.S. involvement in Middle Eastern affairs.

Im curious as to why you hate Makoto for ripping of p3pfemc's looks but consent to Royal-chan for the same thing? ( I know you hate Makoto for a lot of other reasons, like her personality and such, but it seemed like you disliked her since prereveal/release?) If Royal chan ended up being a completely unrelated character to femc, will your opinion of her change ? (no hate really, i jst wanna know. \V/m )
It's no prob! In all honesty I didn't even think about this kind of question, but the answer came right away, so I guess time for a not so deep reflection.
So like full stop, if Poniko isn't connected to the FeMC and it's just Atlus messing with me, yeah I'mma be PISSED. Will I rip on her looks like no tomorrow? Maybe, depends on how it’s handled (like how bad they burn me, and even then I might wait for a spinoff cause they might go into the connection there rather than Royal). I think it's obvious I went harder on Makoto because I don't like her for other reasons, and so any small thing about her annoys me (tbh Yusuke's design annoys me too, but not as bad cause....I kinda just don’t care about him and who he’s copying as much, but I'll get to that in a bit)
Anyway I think we need some historical context, because I think it’s important. When Makoto (and Yusuke) where first shown......FeMC had been ignored for A LONG time. We had a non-canon play (which no one really talked about), and that was it. No game related stuff, not even featured in the game where people were getting ripped out of timelines. FeMC were BURNED. I’ll be honest, when Yusuke appeared......While the parallels between P2 were obvious (not just with him) he reminded me of Minato as well. It annoyed me we had to have the token blue hair character since the rule had been made since the P3 era (kinda enforced with some black haired characters from P1/2, combining P2 games together that is, if you want to include them), Atlus said they’d be trying new things..... but like....whateves. But my association with him as Minato increased....when Makoto came along.
Ngl I wasn’t pleased with the reveal of the last three girls (even didn’t like Haru, for ironically now what I love as an alt rewrite for her as, as I thought she’d be a mean and person full of herself due to calling herself ‘beauty thief’....Yeah all types of crazy here, I do love sweet Haru tho. And the reason for my opinion changing on the alt non-canon personality rewrite is just I.....see the appeal in it for the group dynamic now, while at the time I was afraid of disliking any of the characters or having them be disliked by the fandom.....which big laugh now haha :’D .....I want my happy P5 self back ;w;). Anyway back to the three girls, ngl one of the reasons I wasn’t happy was how they just dumped 3 more characters on us (too big a cast so can they handle it?, silly has to do more VA videos, I want the smaller cast back oh god don’t screw this up, and so on and so on). As for the characters, while Haru’s appearance in the trailer mislead me on her personality (for whatever reason)..... I just.....there was something about Futaba and Makoto I didn’t like. Futaba just rubs me all the wrong ways for reasons I can’t describe for back then (maybe the fact she looked like she’d be a troll and she kinda is), but Makoto it was clear...... She was ripping off FeMC’s look. The brown hair and red eyes.....the fact that Yusuke looked like Minato.....it felt like they were trying to draw them as expies of the P3MCs. And it pissed me off. I didn’t want an unrelated character look and remind me of the FeMC, I wanted FeMC herself! Why are you stealing her look????? And while some FeMC saw this and rolled with it as a joke (Hamu/Minty/Shin dressing up as Makoto/Yusuke/Goro to get into P5), other’s didn’t know who the FeMC was and thus.....didn’t see the blatant expy/rip off design. Seeing people be like “her character design is so original and cute and blah blah blah”.....it annoyed me....obviously (it didn’t help she grew in popularity doing absolutely nothing too, so initially it was all about her looks, and then I’ve been told a lot of her fans, at least male, has been mostly them saying the like her design and her hair and her eyes, and no everyone who likes Makoto is an FeMC fan so....yeah.....I mostly hear how it’s just about her design so I’m very focused on that in regards to her specifically BECAUSE of the fans). And yeah I know it was a bit petty/shallow reason, but I didn’t outright hate her atm, she was stepping on my toes badly but I was holding out till the game (where it finally cemented my hate for her, and now I legit hate her for petty, shallow, deep, and complex reasons). And lordy lord lord, it did not help Makoto’s name was Makoto, because that was a name some FeMC fans gave Hamuko (cause Makoto Yuki was the closest ‘canon’ name we’d get to P3MCs, and some people adopted it for both MCs cause it was gender neutral, so Niijima coming along and taking THAT away sucked ass, and I know different kanji, it still sucked tho). It just....felt like Atlus was spitting in FeMC fan’s face..... But anyway, I kept it in....for about....2ish years. Even when I was trying to stay positive.......and even when I was slowly starting to come out with negative opinions. I tried to keep it in.
Finally I decided to make it framed as a joke, because I started to see Makoto ripping off more characters than just FeMC (FeMC, Aika, and Naoto in the detective novel to be precise, but what got the ball rolling was realizing that it was Aika who Makoto ripped the hair and motor vehicle from with the FeMC’s color scheme). That’s where my brain started going other places than just being restricted to FeMC, and I started being more critical of Makoto’s design outside the FeMC (tho that still burned me). Because, imo, it’s not original, it annoyed me people would say she was original when she was really just a Frankenstein rip off of other characters (other loved characters, FeMC and Aika were pretty popular in their own right). It only continued to cement in my mind that....anything ‘original’ about Makoto was a farce, she just copies while the original gets left behind.
Tldr; FeMC had been snubbed for years, along comes two design expies that remind you of P3MCs (3 if you wanna include Goro/Ken but Goro looks different enough imo), Makoto is named Makoto (a name some used for FeMC), and Makoto is praised for her design for being original and blah blah blah when it’s not (for multiple reasons besides the FeMC, kinda more the fans reactions fault but I was already having design issues so it just bugged me more when they’d say these things). So yeah it felt like Makoto stole aspects of the FeMC, and it’s not like FeMC has a lot for herself, which really just stepped on my toes. Combined that with legit hating the character when I finally get to see her in action (and it’s because of her actions and writing that I hate-hate the character, but prior to that it was just her stepping on my toes while trying to keep an open mind into liking her), the stuff said before gets amplified more than before.
But months later, after the first post of me ripping on Makoto for taking FeMC and Aika’s design (tho my later posts were in drafts I just didn’t post them till later), something amazing happened on Aug 4th. FeMC finally came back to us. And holy shit obviously I was happy, but it doesn’t dismiss the fact I was aware of how much of design rip off/expy Makoto was, and it wasn’t just FeMC anymore. But gdi if the fact that the FeMC wasn’t being ignored anymore didn’t change the outlook for me as an FeMC fan. FeMC was back, she’s loved, care was put into her character in PQ2, just.....skdfalf;a so happy ;w; But also so hopeful, she was acknowledged again, she had been cut from the 20th anniversary event in official art, and that hurt us, but now she’s back back. And she was a main character in PQ2.....which leads to you questioning, what next?
Which brings us to Poniko, the one post hopeful outlook. Obviously she’s not starting in the same place as Makoto. Poniko has been revealed post-PQ2 FeMC....which means Atlus isn’t ignoring Hamuko (in fact a lot of the creators were stating they WANTED her back), we know the creators do love Hamuko. There’s also the fact.....Poniko looks less like an expy like Makoto (who imo looks like Soejima trying to emulate Kaneko’s art style, esp the eye shape, same with Yusuke too). Poniko? It goes beyond ripping off a design, she looks like she’s almost fully lifted from Hamuko, it just looks like Hamuko wearing a different outfit. Just straight up copy and paste. And would I have been pissed if she was revealed alongside Makoto? Maybe, or I might be theorizing that she is Hamuko herself like now (tho I think it’d get more push back due to Hamu being in Atlus’ basement for so long so it just being claimed as delusional and unlikely), or both (and then pissed when it’s revealed it’s not Hamuko). It’s just....she looks SO MUCH like Hamuko it can’t be a coincidence, and after PQ2 it feels less like one as well. Just.....the posture, the cinematic parallels, the hair color, the eye color, the eye shape, the eyelashes, the face structure, the way she stands.....Poniko just screams “I AM Hamuko” not “I just look like her because.” And it helps that other people in the fandom also see this too, some are hoping she’s a new person, but it seems people at least acknowledge that very obvious similarities between Hamuko and Poniko (while that didn’t really happen with P5 with Hamuko/Makoto).
And....tbh I feel like I might sound like I’m splitting hairs (at least with the words I’m using). And it might sound weird that I think Makoto ripped off enough Hamuko it pissed me off, but Poniko just.....is a copy and paste of Hamuko, just straight up Hamuko in a different outfit and hairstyle but it doesn’t. But it’s the historical context I think that sheds that light. And the fact Poniko might just BE Hamuko, and so it’d make sense if that was the case for them to look like each other (while it doesn’t make sense for Makoto to look like Poniko).
I guess it also helps that I personally had the headcanon Hamuko and Minato weren’t related (just strangers on the bridge in two separate cars), and they both survived the bridge accident but one became the leader of SEES and the other went on to live and do their own thing (until maybe a spinoff game pulls them back in). And while I.....well recalling it now I considered a reincarnation once in a hc scenario (opted for time travel forward cause that makes sense 8U I won’t go into it I had my reasons 8U), but looking at the 1st year symbol on Poniko (and reincarnation in other MegaTen works, I mean c’mon reincarnation is in the title) it feels plausible. And it works for Poniko because of the time the incident and the time to be reincarnated takes place (1999 being the accident and April 1 2000-April 2 2001 being the time frame she was born), which wouldn’t ever work for Makoto because she was born in 1998 (so even if I HAD considered Makoto it wouldn’t have worked, esp since they never tell us she jumped grades, it’s not possible....and while I’m all for hc and grey areas, this is something that WOULD be explicitly told because it’s not common in Japan and Atlus has been explicit about characters not in the ‘right’ grades before, just an fyi there 8U).
I dunno I feel like there’s distinct clear reasons that I can fit them into separate categories. And yeah if Poniko isn’t Hamuko I’mma be burned too, BUT I’mma wait till a spinoff post-Royal before I get pissy.....cause I don’t expect clear answers to other past games in another game’s mainline entry (I only expect shallow shoutouts tbh). So yeah, just so you know where the deadline for my expectations are.

I watched the first season of Overlord and this AU popped into my head
X, Zero and Axl are the lords of their own territory and were transported to the other world when the server shut down alongside Ainz and Nazarick
These are some of their Floor Guardians:
Front Entrance and 1st Floor-
These komainu were named Rock and Roll after X’s younger siblings.
They serve as surveillance and security alarms in case any uninvited guests come trying to burst down the door.
They look and act much like sphinxes in that they attack the Player if any of their five riddles are answered incorrectly or if the Player tries to avoid answering them, however, they act like normal house pets around the Floor Guardians and their Masters. In fact, they act much like puppies and are always willing to play with people considered allies of the guild, unless they are told not to of course.
They can be quite vicious if they need to be.
Someone always makes sure they’re fed at the same time everyday, though they spend the majority of their days outside.
When they sleep, they actually turn to stone and don’t return to flesh and blood until the next sunrise.
2nd Floor-
Lumine Skogkatt, a feline shapeshifter. He’s one of those cats that have a very light grey, almost lavender coloration.
He was created by Layer. She liked cats and based Lumine on her own pet, who even had the same name. His personality is similar to that of Layer due to her being his primary creator. Calm, analytical and collected most of the time but easily flustered in the presence of or discussing someone he admires.
Axl helped code Lumine’s abilities since his character was also a cat yokai.
In his backstory, Lumine was once a normal cat that was loved dearly by his human owners, until he killed in a horrific accident and thus came back to life as a fire-breathing monster called a bakeneko. He’s also based on the Skogkatt, or Norwegian Forest Cat, hence the last name.
The main difference between bakeneko and nekomata is that bakeneko have only one long, snake-like tail while nekomata have forked tails.
Lumine is the first official line of defense for the Guild Hall, whose specialty (similar to Axl) is copying others’ abilities and using shape shifting and illusion to manifest them.
His ability to bewitch people comes from taking in the spiritual energy of the moon, so every full moon night he goes outside to bathe in its silvery glow (and also keep an eye on the Komainu). He also has some fire-based powers, able to manipulate little blue flames like will o wisps. Though, Zero and Axl can do that too.
Lumine hates humans due to being mistreated by a previous owner and thus why he’s a yokai cat in the first place.
He is Shalltear Bloodfallen’s counterpart. Like her, he is very much a carnivore but his favorite meat is that of fish.
Lumine’s level is an extension of the first floor in that it looks like a traditional Japanese temple, except his floor has more opulence and appears more like part of a palace.
Bakeneko are also referred to as ‘vampire cats’, which makes Skogkatt’s parallel to Shalltear all the more prominent.
The 3rd Floor-
Cinnamon Yosuzume, the resident healer and night sparrow. She can hold her own in a fight as well as anyone using a nurse’s weapons and an army of sparrows.
She was created by the Guild’s resident healing expert and now real-life doctor, Lifesaver a.k.a. Linus Sawyer. He based her on the yellow-browed sparrow, hence her blonde hair.
She actually has a crush on Master Axl and is happy when he checks in with her.
The Kijo Battle Maids help her with operations sometimes.
Cinnamon is Victim’s counterpart in that she is polite and courteous to her fellow Guardians and is rarely seen outside her Floor. She also makes sure everyone in Yasokyoku is of good health, and hates it when her comrades lie to her about such things.
She takes her job as healer very seriously.
Her Floor is laid out like your typical hospital wing where she keeps various instruments meant for testing one’s health.
She also keeps an herb garden she shares with the Temple’s resident alchemist.
Cinnamon is also infamous for sending her fellow Guardians or their underlings out on quests to find herbs or other things she needs to do her job.
Aside from a clinic, she runs a pharmaceutical shop in the glen outside the Fortress for the various fae and yokai residents.
