Dark figures, money left under tavern tables, shadowy faces, and middlemen. Theo's brain wrapped in and around upon itself, trying to untangle the knot of information he'd gained from the prisoners so far. How was it that, with all that had happened and all that he'd done, he seemed no closer to finding the missing pieces, those who had hired the soldiers. Whoever had planned the attacks, everything, had been careful to make sure that no one guard would have enough information to truly implicate anyone, no matter how much Theo beat them. Or maybe they had given up more, but Theo wasn't able to make sense of it. Either way, Theo knew there was only one way to clear his head and that was to train so there he was, slicing into the dummies on the training yard with fury, knocking the head clean off one of the wooden posts. He felt eyes on him but did not stop and look up until the wood rolled to the spectator's feet. Then he saw the queen, bowing hurriedly as he realized. "Generale."

And her brothers, seemingly in exchange for her husband. It's a lifetime of checks and balances, and most days, Jacqueline's made peace with her choice. Theo is the love of her life, the place where she can rest her head and breathe. But there are those few days when the choice isn't as clear, and here and now, she is breathless as she stands with the French militia in the threshold of Lal Qila. "They will comply to Santiago and the Chakri's terms." She speaks up from the steady silence, approaching Theo from behind as she glances up at Lal Qila's red walls. "Royals scare easier than commoners." She should know. Jacqueline managed training and service, but nothing could prepare her from the fearsome trek down her golden ladder. She moves, unsettled beside Theo. It is not a fear of a fight. No, it is a fear of the faces that await her beyond the fortress - the family she left behind. "Do you think..." Will they be here?

"Oh, don't just stand there. I haven't had a drink in almost a year." Jacqueline bemoans, making a beeline towards the bar with Theo by her side. The last few months of pregnancy weren't easy, and new motherhood is tiresome even for new parents with staff ever-present. After much convincing by her husband and family, she's out in society - cinched into a dress and forced to make nice. At the very least, she can have some fun. And what was more fun than prodding Theo into a night of drinks and indecency? "What do you say? A vodka shot? Like when we were back in training camp in Normandy?" She suggests, already signaling for a row of them.

Last night as I was going to bed, my traitorous brain decided I should entertain the idea of a Hosie Stitchers AU, so…

I ended up with two sets of character mappings, because like a number of different AUs, it feels like either Hope or Josie could play the “central” character here. My initial thoughts were with Josie as Kirsten, and I think I like that one the best, but I’ll post both.

Josie-as-Kirsten:

Josie (Salvatore) is Kirsten Clark. Stefan is her just-deceased adoptive father, Ed Clark. Her biological parents, Dr Daniel Stinger and Jacqueline Stinger, are Alaric and Jo. Her older half-sister, Daniel’s elder daughter Ivy Brown, is Lizzie Parker.

On the Stitchers team, Hope (Marshall) is Cameron, naturally. I’ve got Maya as Camille (which makes Ethan her ne’er-do-well brother Theo). Maybe MG as Linus, particularly as he ends the series dating Ivy/Lizzie?

Maggie was friends with Ed and the Stingers (and also an assassin/undercover operative), so perhaps Caroline? Maybe Dorian for LA Detective Quincy Fisher (that’s the one I have the most doubts about)? And Damon as Maggie/Caroline’s boss, Leslie Turner?

A few of the minor characters: Cameron/Hope’s comic-book-store girlfriend Nina becomes Landon. Kirsten/Josie’s troublesome ex Liam is Finch. And (mostly because I love Allison Scagliotti and Anna Akana), Penelope as Amanda?

For the Hope-as-Kirsten version:

Hope (Marshall) as Kirsten, Jackson as Ed Clark, Klaus and Hayley as Daniel and Jacqueline, naturally. Marcel as Ivy (will have to rewrite some of the romantic plot there)?

Josie (Parker or Forbes) as Cameron. Maybe Lizzie as Camille? I’ve got MG as Linus again here, based on Cameron and Linus being buds, IIRC. For Maggie, perhaps Cami, Declan, or Caroline (again)?

I forgot to do Quincy and Leslie for this one…probably The Originals characters, but no one is really jumping out at me? Father Kieran as Leslie, maybe? Dunno.

For Camille’s troublesome brother Theo, I plucked Jed out of the air; he’s a minor character anyway. Kirsten’s ex Liam is Roman, Cameron’s early/middle-seasons girlfriend Nina is Penelope (who breaks up with him when after she learns the truth about what Cameron does!), and Jen as Amanda to round out the cast.

BRACKET REVEAL

Alright. At long last, I present to you the bracket...or should I say...*BRACKETS* for the Virtual Character Tournament!

Given the scale, the first round is going to be one bracket per week, 4 a day, with each lasting 24 hours. I know that this is still tight, but given how many contestants there are, along with the necessary inclusions of images and propaganda (oh and I guess also my job), it's what I can do to keep this semi-manageable. There are no secrets between husband and wife, or a commander and his deputy. But she would not be a Bonaparte-born woman if she did not pick her timing wisely. In the wake of secrets spilled and loyalties dividing, she twists Theo's arm to join her in the hamman. Their training and meetings are done, with many of France's soldiers off to bed or out into the city. "I picked the most secluded one." Jacqueline teases from the hot water of the bath, head bent comfortably against the stone edge. "Come here." She encourages with a wry smirk, filled with intent. Its been days since a moment of reprieve, away from the never-ending tasks and agendas. They needed to talk - of her brothers, of the agendas against the Ortiz's, and of her own agendas. But first - "I need to hold my husband."

The last twenty-four hours are a blur of advisors, physicians, and her noble husband's careful attention. After fainting in Dennis' arms, the royal physician concludes that bed rest is needed for the foreseeable few days. Fortunately, there is no shortage of work to be done from her bed, with papers and schedules aligned on her lap (despite the insistence of her lady's maids). When there's a knock on the door, Jacqueline looks up, brows raised. Your personal guard. Nodding, she permits Theo's entry, a nervous thumming in his chest. With herself secluded to the royal chambers, she's yet to see any of her guards. "Theo!" Jacqueline exclaims with relief, seeing him standing and present. "God himself must be laughing at the irony." She speaks, of course, of his absence during the one kidnapping of the Queen. Perhaps it's the Russian in her, that finds these cynical moments almost humorous.

You know, I hate stereotypes but as I look out my window and I see stereotypical British weather in the beginnings of Summer, you know this one is based in truth. Of course it's raining.

I have completed 42 books this month ( plus 4 DNFs) and have read novels, manga, poetry and essay collections to get to this point. I read mainly from women this month and predominantly fiction which is not unusual, but the numbers were so high this month.

I also had my highest amount of five star books this month as well, so this might be a bit of a long one.

I am also going to link four different gofundmes I am aware for people trying to get themselves and their families out of Gaza.

Dina - Lulu - Doaa - Jumana.

Blue Exorcist 14 and 15 by Kazue Kato - I really am deep into this series now. The end of the last arc was fantastic and this one involved some of my favourite characters and I really feel the strength of the team and class is really beginning to show now. I just really appreciate this series alot so far and I can't wait to keep reading more of it. The story of Rin who finds out he's the son of satan when his exorcist father figure is killed, Blue Exorcist is definitely a heck of a series so far as they fight demons and break curses.

I Who Have Never Known Men by Jacqueline Harpman - I've read this month so many books that have demanded to seen, heard and felt and this is definitely one of those books. The story of a young girl who grows up with a group of women who finally escape the confines of a cell they were trapped in, this book tells the story of her exploration of the world she now inhabits. Gloriously written and packing an emotional punch that will leave you breathless for days, I'd recommend this book to everyone.

Sketchy Vol 1 by Makihorichi - I am not going to dwell on this long as I have a whole review on this blog for it, but I highly recommend this manga about a woman who gets into skateboarding and begins to find new friends and create a new life for herself.

Mansfield Park by Jane Austen - I've been reading alot of classics and honestly very few have got five stars, actually few have even got four, but Mansfield Park is just so good. How Austen writes people is way ahead of her time, she is fantastic at creating people you love, you hate, you feel for and this book is no exception (even if the awful man in this book seems to come from my home county smh). The story of Fanny Price, a young but poor girl who is sent to live with rich family, she navigate, love, life, loneliness and envy, it is a classic for a a reason.

Homebody by Theo Parrish - I was lucky enough to see them discuss this book at my local Waterstones and was able to get a signed copy of this fantastic graphic novel. The story of Theo as they figure out their identity and find the gender they feel at home with, Homebody is a beautifully drawn and fantastically written story of figuring out who you are. I loved this so much and highly recommend it.

Small Things Like These by Claire Keegan - Keegan is at the height of her talent right now and it's short stories like these? Novellas? That make that so abundantly clear. A beautifully told story about a man learning where the power lies in his Irish village (with the church in this case) it touches on the Magdalene Laundries and the impact they had on women and the places they were based in. A tale of quite hope and heroism, this book is a gem.

The Facemaker by Lindsey Fitzharris - I will say from the top if you are not comfortable with explicit examples of wounds or surgery, this is not something I'd recommend, there is a lot of detail that goes into how these men got their wounds in world war one and I took several breaks to read this book. However this doesn't change just how well written this book is and the depth this has gone to research Doctor Gillies who basically invested plastic and reconstructive surgery for men who were burnt, scarred and hurt in the trenches and the impact of his work that is still seen today. The story of a pioneer in 250 pages, it's a piece of history that doesn't get heard about.

Which of your characters is the most introverted, and which one is most extroverted? Do they/would they get along?

Hi anon, thank you for the question and thanks for sending me a second one just to make sure. It was nice and appreciated because this is a fun one.

Introverted - Hamish, Theo, Jacqueline, and Meredith

Extroverted - Macsen, Gwendolyn, Isla, Adrien, Aneurin, and Cullen

That's just the tip of the iceberg but I think these are the children that come to my mind. Seeing as they're all family, it's one of those you have to love them and put up with them type situations. It also depends on who in which category you're talking about. Theo, has no problem spending time with Isla and Adrien because they're fine with her being quite and just coming along for an adventure. Hamish likes spending time with Meredith, because she's his little sister and because she's similar in temperate but he can also spend time with both his younger brothers though he needs a break after spending time with them because they can be exhausting. In the end, they're all family so they have to put up with each other especially during certain royal engagements and family get togethers.
