NCIS: Los Angeles Season Twelve Rewatch: “A Fait Accompli”

What important things did we learn about:

Callen: Left behind a peaceful life to learn about his family and his name. Sam: Never wanted to be the measuring stick for Aiden and Kam’s successes. Kensi: Planning to drive to Georgia to see Deeks graduate and drive the two of them home. Deeks: Graduated FLETC. Eric: The artist formerly known as NCIS’s Technical Operator. Nell: Absent. Fatima: Primetime soap actress back in the day. Roundtree: Tackling a homeless man to save the man’s life. Hetty: Would not let anyone else tell Deeks he was joining NCIS.

What not so important things did we learn about:

Callen: Not quite left at the altar but close. Sam: Skipping drinks with the Admiral to finish up paperwork. Kensi: Advises the new kids on the team to rest when they can. Deeks: Sore ribs, bruised ego but an NCIS Investigator. Eric: Harmonized greetings with Kensi to Kilbride. Nell: Absent. Fatima: Porsche driver. Roundtree: Thought Fatima’s acting was fine. Hetty: Probably gave Deeks the worst plane flight of his life.

Who is running the team this week? A cranky retired Admiral doing a favor for Hetty.

Fashion review: Kensi, Roundtree and Fatima start the episode in the clothes they were wearing in “Love Kills”. Callen is in a red plaid button down shirt. Black tee and jacket for Sam. Grey sweater and green leather jacket for Kensi. Deeks is in his FLETC gear (complete with bandages on his ribs) and then bright white tee and a blue zip hoodie in LA. Fatima has a red and black turtleneck black floral print with a black cardigan. Green tee and black denim jacket for Roundtree.

Music: This is like a season one episode – four songs. “Punch Bag” by Yonaka is playing when Rountree is running after the van. “Kai Tangata” by Alien Weaponry is playing behind Kensi and Deeks in the scrap yard. “Cracking Up in Heare” by Richard Mead is playing in the jewelry store. Quiet Riot’s “Cum on Feel The Noise” ends our time with Sabatino in this two-parter.

Any notable cut scene: No.

Quote: Kilbride: “I didn't think you worked here anymore, Beale.” Eric: “Oh, I don't. Uh, well, not exactly. - Mm. Um, uh, temporarily, yes, I do. Uh, I'm a technical consultant while we're beta testing Kaleidoscope. But, uh, you can call me the Technical Operator Formerly Known as...” Kilbride: “It was a statement, not a question.”

Anything else: Previouslys are all about Jimmy Fang and Kensi and Sabatino being shot at the warehouse. Kensi and Sabatino can’t see who is even shooting at them. Kensi can’t get a good look and Sabatino is staying put because “this bun ain’t bulletproof.” The men shooting jump in the their van and drive right out of the warehouse – not even opening the garage door.

As the van is racing down an alleyway, Fatima and Roundtree are standing where the alley turns onto the street. They see a homeless man walk near the path of the van. Roundtree races to save the man while Fatima fires her weapon into the van’s grill. Fatima has to duck as the van driver was very willing to run her over to get to the street. Kensi and Sabatino arrive – the van getting away was not the plan.

Kensi is giving orders as they walk back into the office. Fang is part of the Chinese Triad according to Eric so they have to ID the men with him. Fatima and Roundtree want to know what went wrong. Kensi doesn’t have an answer while Sabatino is back at his hotel updating Langley. While it looks like it was going to be a long night, Sam texts Kensi with orders to send everyone home. Roundtree wants to work but Kensi tells him when you get a chance to rest on this job, do it.

The following morning, Sam is working on his phone in the couch area when Admiral Kilbride strolls in. With all the enemies of the US trying to hack military communications, the Admiral is stunned Sam is “twittergramming” away. Sam was texting his daughter. The Admiral asks of the younger generation of Hannas. Aiden will be the family’s first military aviator in the family and Kam is going to Annapolis. The Admiral is rightly impressed, Sam is proud and grateful.

The Admiral tells Sam that being a Hanna child comes with some pressures. Sam agrees but he and Michelle never wanted to be the measuring stick of his children – he wanted them to find their own way. Sam asks about the Admiral’s son, an attorney – at least he was years ago. The Admiral quickly changes the subject to being in Los Angeles – Hetty asked him to check in. Sam asks about Hetty, whose mission “hit a snag” but is not in immediate danger. Both Sam and the Admiral look uncomfortable.

As Sam is about to give the Admiral a sitrep, the Admiral assures Sam he’s up to speed. He wants to know why Fang was in the warehouse. Sam thinks the warehouse is connected to the counterfeit money. Kilbride is interested in who turned NCIS onto the case. Sam mentions a CIA agent the team dealt with in the past. The Admiral uses Sabatino’s full name to prove NCIS’s familiarity with the CIA Agent. The CIA working a case in the US is not good news to the Admiral but Sam promises Sabatino is more watching NCIS than working with NCIS. Kilbride wants to know the connection between Fang and Daniel Lao. Lao is with the FBI in DC. For his final question, Kilbride asks about Callen who is off on personal business.

Sitting in his apartment, Callen is chasing down Anna’s work group, the SC-5. He wants to surprise his girlfriend, he tells someone on the phone. In a flashback, college Callen has really impressed his girlfriend’s father – he’s crazy about Callen. Callen explains he has a talent for listening to people talk and making them feel comfortable so they keep talking. The young woman is impressed – Callen has a job offer with a company in Chicago.

As she works on her weapons in the armory, Kensi gets a call from Deeks – “hey recruit.” In Georgia, Deeks is wrapping up his ribs. He’s hurt and Kensi can hear it. The good news is Kensi is driving to FLETC to attend his graduation and they are driving back. They are negotiating the amount of time Deeks has to be quiet every 100 miles – Kensi is thinking 10 minutes. Deeks is worried about the safety issues and earns himself 15-minutes of silence. Kensi is called to Ops and the two share “I love yous”.

After mocking the “free trade” coffee that was watered by the tears of snowflakes, the Admiral is greeted in stereo by an arriving Kensi and Eric. Eric tries to explain his work situation to the Admiral and that goes as you’d expect. Eric has a photo of a broken bracelet found at the crime scene. Kensi recognizes the piece belonging to a specific a Hollywood jeweler.

With footage from the crime scene, Eric ID’s a man leaving through a different door during the shoot out – Musa Okoye. Okoye is an aerospace engineer for Delta Seven Industries and a Nigerian national. A lot of the military’s missile technology is from Delta Seven Industries and Okoye works on technology for intercepting missiles. The Admiral wants Kensi to take the CIA observer to the jewelry place, he and Sam are going to Delta Seven Industries. With Roundtree and Fatima, Eric is tasked with finding Okoye.

Watching TV in the armory, Roundtree is stunned – Fatima was a young adult soap star. Fatima is with Roundtree as her character says her tag line - “Bye bitch” – and slaps her romantic rival. The program ran five seasons. Roundtree is surprised Fatima quit acting – she was good. “it wasn’t for me,” she answers coolly. Wondering if the team knows, Fatima reminds Roundtree that the team has every intel source known to mankind – they know. Eric texts Roundtree – he found Musa Okoye’s home. As they leave, Roundtree drops a “bye bitch” which earns a laughing double snap of Fatima’s fingers.

Sam and Kilbride go to the home of Ronald Lewis. After Sam introduces himself and the Admiral goes out of his way not to, Lewis compliments Kilbride on his suit. The Admiral wants Lewis to pay more attention to Sam. When Lewis is told that Okoye may have stolen military secrets, he finds that hard to believe. His company runs extensive security analysis. And Lewis is surprised by it being Okoye – “he’s not that guy.” Okoye is brilliant hard working and never a problem. The Admiral asks about Okoye’s friends at work – he really doesn’t have any.

Sam wants to know how hard it would be to steal classified files. Explaining that all projects are segmented among the different teams to stop people from stealing classified material, Lewis does believe if someone is smart enough and driven enough, they could do it. Sam asks what happens if that person is brilliant.

On the phone again with Kensi, Deeks is packing up his gear. He was on track to graduate with his class and now he’s been pulled from the program – he’s washed out. Deeks has no idea what’s going on. Kensi tells Deeks she loves him – he’s flying home. Sabatino arrives and asks about “lover boy”. Kensi’s eyebrow lift is stellar.

Leaving Lewis’s home, Sam hears from Eric. Okoye has been talking to an Angela Brown, a former Delta Seven Industries staffer. The speak every day. Sam wants Agent Castor to bring Brown to the boat shed.

Sharing a coffee on a bench, Sabatino is pro-Hollywood. Not LA, just Hollywood. He’s recording again – a musician. Kensi is genuinely impressed. He started with a band in the East Village. The band wound up in LA, played some shows on the Strip and then everyone got real jobs. Their music was rap music meets heavy metal – a music mix unfamiliar to Kensi. She does think that his hair “nubbin or nipple” has something to do with the bad. Kensi sees a customer go into the jewelry store – she’s going too. Singing, Sabatino is right behind her.

Fatima and Roundtree arrive at Okoye’s in a Porsche – which blows Roundtree away. She doesn’t even like to drive. Fatima has a better relationship with the guys in the motor pool. A text comes in from Eric – they have a warrant to enter the house. That’s good but unneeded since the door is open. Fatima and Roundtree check the place – it’s empty. So is the safe in the bedroom closet. Roundtree notices a dust spot where Okoye’s computer would be. If he has his computer and passport, Okoye is likely on the run. Roundtree asks Eric to look at cameras in the area.

Kensi and Sabatino enter the jewelry store. The saleswoman asks if Kensi and Sabatino are there to pick up a piece for their kid. Kendra the saleswoman doesn’t think the pieces are age appropriate for Kensi and Sabatino. Kensi breaks out the badge and shows the bracelet to Kendra. She sold it, it was a custom piece. When she doesn’t share the buyer’s name, Kensi promises to shut the place down and Sabatino includes throwing in an investigation to see if the store has been charging sale tax. That’s gets some cooperation. Simi Latu bought the piece.

When Kensi calls in Latu’s name, Eric can’t find Latu but finds common ground with Sabatino and their love of Big Foot documentaries. Kensi is not amused. Latu is associated with a group that has done time for murder and he has their location.

Sam questions Angela Brown with Kilbride. She’s cooperative answering questions about “Musa”, who is a friend of hers and her husband’s. When told that Okoye may have stolen military secrets, Brown can’t believe that. He eats with her family once a week – he is almost family. Calling him shy, kind, sweet and honest – he doesn’t steal. Sam asks about Okoye’s outside of work interests. Brown tells him that Okoye has a few friends from Nigeria – they meet from time to time. They talk about home, eat food from Nigeria. “They seem nice.” She’s worried that Okoye is in danger.

There are no security cameras at Okoye’s home or at his neighbors. Finding a bluetooth keyboard, Fatima sees it is hooked up to the TV. They can search is browser history through the set. Roundtree is impressed. Maybe when they’re done, they can watch some more of her old show. That’s fine with Fatima, she could use the residuals. When Roundtree asks about residuals, she admits the Porsche isn’t from the NCIS motor pool.

At a scrap yard, Kensi and Sabatino are looking for Latu. Two large men are working out. When Kensi asks for Simi Latu, the men move toward them. A huge Chevy pickup on tires five-foot tall suspension and tires pulls up with yet another large man inside. Finally, a man larger than all the others walks up – he’s Simi Latu. The largest man is offend that Kensi has her hand on her gun and by the “little ponytailed man” who is wielding a wrench.

Kensi asks the men to raise their hand if they’ve gone to jail. Nobody raises their hand. Kensi doesn’t believe them. Offering a trade, Kensi thinks she can pick at out least one of the men whose gone to jail. If she’s right, Latu has to talk. Latu wants to know what he gets if she’s wrong. Kensi has faith in Latu and his men. One of them has gone to jail. Latu likes Kensi. When she starts to look at the men, Latu sends them away – they’ve all done time. Kensi knows that.

Alone with Latu, Sabatino asks about the bracelet. Latu claims it was stolen. When Sabatino objects – Latu calls him Duran Duran – Kensi brings up Jimmy Fang. Latu plays dumb. Saying that Fang was paying Latu is counterfeit bills, law enforcement can talk to Latu and his men when they are caught passing bogus bills. Latu is furious. He wants Fang to go down. Latu’s nephew works as a bodyguard from Fang. Now Latu knows who stole his bracelet. The nephew’s big skill is being a ghost.

Both Roundtree and Fatima are freezing in Okoye’s house. When Roundtree tries to lower the thermostat, it is set for 74. Checking out the HVAC system, Okoye is in the little AC shed – he’s dead with a gunshot wound to the head.

As Sam is sending Brown home with Agent Castor, he gets the news about Okoye and shares it with her.

Kensi and Sabatino are staking out a music/electronics store Fang frequents. Sabatino asks if Eric is really rich. Kensi confirms he is. They watch Fang and an accomplice move boxes from the store. They think he could have millions with him.

The Admiral thinks the fake bills were for buying the stolen military secrets. By killing Okoye, Fang now has the secrets and the money. Kensi and Sabatino start following Fang. Sam and the Admiral are about to leave when Eric pops up on the boat shed screen. The Nigerians Okoye would meet are all clean. One, however, has a brother who is also a member of Boko Haram. One person knew all of Okoye’s associates – Ron Lewis, Okoye’s boss.

Lewis is downtown – Kensi and Sabatino are following Fang who is also going downtown. Fang doesn’t have the stolen military secrets, Lewis does. This is an exchange meeting. Sabatino didn’t like Lewis. When Kensi points out that Sabatino never met Lewis, Sabatino says he went to USC and nobody likes people who go to USC.

Eric sends Fatima and Roundtree to the meet as well. With her Porsche, they are speeding to the meet.

Kensi and Sabatino follow Fang to a parking structure. Lewis is on the roof. Kensi arrives and this is a nice roof parking lot – lots of pretty big buildings in the background. Kensi announces “federal agents” and because insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome, the outcome is shooting ensues.

Fang takes Latu’s nephew hostage. The nephew is then shot as Fang shoots at Kensi. Sabatino hides with Lewis. With an even bigger gun, Fang murders a Jeep but is taken out when Sabatino shoots him in the foot on the other side of Fang’s SUV. Fang and “Trojan boy” Lewis are under arrest.

Using Okoye’s computer terminal, Lewis downloaded all of Delta Seven Industries’ missile technology. They don’t need the proof – Lewis confessed, then wet himself. Okoye was the scapegoat.

Fang and the Triad were moving the money but Sabatino is no closer to knowing who made the money than when he got to LA. While the Secret Service usually looks into counterfeit money, if it is being used for terrorism, it is on the CIA’s radar. He’s off to another place he’s not supposed to be. Kensi and Sabatino sing “Cum on Feel the Noise” to end the crime scene.

Sam arrives in the office. Kilbride is in the aquarium office upstairs – the only private place to make a call. He notes that Hetty’s fingerprints are all over the office. The Admiral is staying at the Chateau Marmont, a place he stayed way back in the 1980’s. He offers to buy Sam a drink but Sam has paperwork to do. Kilbride wishes Callen luck in his personal matter before departing.

At a motel north of LA, Callen arrived with the engagement ring. He flashes back to breaking up with his college girlfriend. She’s crying, heartbroken he’s leaving her behind. He gets into a limo and announces he’s ready. Hetty says Jocelyn is his chance for a nice, peaceful life. Callen is having none of it. He wants to know his past and his real name. Warning him of a lonely existence, the two ride away.

A sad Deeks walks into the office with a not so sad Kensi. Hetty wants to see him in her office – the one with creepy doll heads. Hetty pops up on the screen, causing Deeks to want to change his underwear. While bombs are blowing up around her, Hetty wants Deeks to open her top drawer. His new NCIS badge is there. Kensi was in on the surprise. Deeks thinks what Hetty did was savage, inhumane, messed-up and greatest trick anyone ever pulled on him. Strangers at FLETC were never giving Deeks that badge. Hetty is throwing a party for Deeks Saturday.

Deeks wants to party now – his badge is 12-years in the making. Kensi explains that Callen is out of town. Deeks doesn’t care, he’s not that close to Callen – he can barely pronounce his name. A near-tears Kensi is proud of Deeks. Deeks is proud too. Kensi pulls him in for a hug and touches his bruised ribs. Kensi thinks that is what happens when you lie to your wife.

Callen talks to the manager of the motel where Anna was staying. Or where she wasn’t staying. Nobody from Rebuild USA has been to that town. Callen is stunned.

Sam is at his desk when Kam calls. She’s returning to LA the following weekend with news for her father. When Kam hangs up, she’s grabbed from behind and dragged away, dropping her phone in the struggle.

What head canon can be formed from here: Deeks is NCIS. The Admiral starts hanging around more. Fatima was a young television star and still gets checks from time to time for her work.

There are holes in the story. Okoye is innocent at the end but he’s at the warehouse where Jimmy Fang is shooting at Kensi and Sabatino. Deeks is told he washed out when he actually gets his badge.

Episode number: This is episode nine of season 12 – we’re at the midway point. It is episode 271.

favourite thing about them : bucky is literally top tier favourite character so i will endeavour to try to not just say everything is my favourite about him agdjfkglg but something specific that is my favourite is i love how after everything that has happened to bucky , he still is trying to be a good man & protect & work to help when it's needed , he has every right to go find that peace he wants & stay there , but he comes back to find himself in this new world & to make amends & do the work for it whilst dealing with everything that happened to him in the 70 years under hydra’s thumb ( as well as those weeks when he was captured in wwii by zola because it's not like the 40’s had proper mental health help so he hasn't dealt with that in any healthy way either ) so his owning of what happened to him & what he did as the winter soldier & still working to move on to make a life & do right. i admire that about him very much.

least favourite thing about them : that he feels he must hide his own feelings , or hide himself away if he can't control his feelings , in order to spare others in dealing with them ( or him having to explain them in later years ) we see bucky do this in catfa when he clearly saddened & upset over receiving his deployment orders when he finds steve in the alleyway , there's a brief pause & lapse after he answers steve when he asks about if he got his orders , then he jumps to smiling & trying to reassure steve & give him a good time as their parting because he's leaving steve for an undetermined amount of time & there's a good chance he may not come back , so he decides to not put that on steve for their last night together. i have some other points that show this in tfatws but idk if that's been seen yet so i don't want to spoil anything ^^’ but i can always add to a post if needed so

nOTP : bucky / tony or bucky / zemo , i just don't think it'd work well , not in the mcu , but not to say i hate it , just that it's not my favourite & i have difficult time seeing either working

random headcanon : bucky barnes can cook ! in the 40’s it was because he lived with steve ( yes i subscribe to that fanon theory ) so he knew some recipes thanks to his mother & steve’s mother , although he was superb at it it was passing , but in later years , i think his therapist may have suggested it as a hobby in order to get him out of the house & in public at least once a week to make a proper meal , so he’d have to go out to pick up the groceries , navigating a filled shop would have needing to confront his hypervigilance & reservations over being round lots of people / dealing with other people / working to gain a stability & knowledge of the modern world. it’d get him engaged in doing something that was normal , one that would be harmless & rewarding if he worked at it so whilst forcing him out of his comfort zone of isolation it's too give him something to focus on achieving. but then it sort of just becomes a pattern of sorts with only the recipes he tries changing , maybe a few repeats if he likes what he made , then developing into him trying some new ones because he wants to try the food or test himself in cooking. ( also it's probably nice to be able to try all the new foods that the modern world has , he probably acquired a taste for trying new foods when in wakanda recovering ) idk it's probably not my best headcanon but i do like it

unpopular opinion : again not certain if this is an unpopular opinion , but i don't think the winter soldier programme can be reinitiated now that the wakandans have broken it , not without those years of brainwashing happening again. i don't think there's any sleeper programme or remnants left of it. although bucky fears its resurgence & the possibility of such hidden programming , it doesn't exist.

THE WINTER SOLDIER ( mcu )

favourite thing about them : the hair is nice , very nice , even though it is impractical to keep it long with his work. as well his avenue of disabling sam's car when on the bridge ; just took the fucking steering wheel , like there's literally nothing anyone in the car could do after that no way to steer or control the car at those speeds on a bridge highway !!! minus braking ( in ideal circumstances at best , not one's when they're chased by hydra & a brainwashed super soldier ) so i just find it rather well done xD

least favourite thing about them : i hate hydra & everything they made him do , & everything they had done to him.

nOTP : the winter soldier / anyone because it's not exactly consent if he’s under the winter soldier programme , not matter what degree the infatuation happens to

random headcanon : okay okay this isn't exactly a winter soldier headcanon but more rather a headcanon for after CATWS when sam was looking for bucky in place of steve ; sam actually finds bucky one time but before sam can do anything to alert steve or talk overmuch to bucky , he disappears again ( i'm vague here on purpose as i have a fic i'm writing for this & i don't want to spoil it for any who may be interested ) but since that one is vague , here’s another headcanon to make up the difference ; early on in some of his first missions as the winter soldier he managed to break free from some of the winter soldier programming’s hold & escape , but he wasn't wholly himself nor the winter soldier so it didn't leave him in the right frame of mind to truly get away nor take care of himself properly , so after a few days hydra found him again & ensured they remedied that weakness in his programming & punished him. i like to think he may have worked to escape at every chance he was able during those first few months to year , but that time mentioned above would have been his last attempt until the events of CATWS.

unpopular opinion : not certain if this count as an unpopular opinion , but it seems to go against the standard grain for what i’ve seen , but i’m not wholly certain , okay here goes ; bucky had more authority & leeway as the winter soldier than most may think. he could give orders to handlers / associates & operate without his handlers even being within the vicinity during certain moments , we see a bit of this in when he directs hydra agents on the bridge over which target he's going after , even tells them to go after steve , & again we see it when he takes out fury in the apartment , he's entirely alone on the rooftop then disappears ( most likely back to his handlers but he as well most likely had staked out steve's place after following fury for a long time until he could be sure of his shot since fury was smart enough to keep out of any eye lines for windows & such so the winter soldier had to take his cue of where to shoot based upon where steve was standing & looking when he came into his apartment. but anyway back to point , that the winter soldier has been trained for a multitude of years in various methods of assassination / fighting / weapons usage / infiltrating because he has to get the job done , no matter what. he's been brainwashed & programmed , combined with all that knowledge as well as the super soldier serum ( even though it is a knock-off verison ) he's one of the best hydra has , so of course he’d have the authority to give some orders to the agents round him when on missions , for placements , for organising rondevouz , taking down / capturing multiple tragets , etc. whatever he needs to get the mission done. whilst outside of a mission , i can see that authority & leeway being stripped away , but during them he is the asset & indispensable , whereas the other agents / handlers are replaceable … in trying to view it from that perspective , not that i agree with that method or any of hydra methods / views / etc.

Oooh, nice one. I must say, however, that "dark ship" can be a bit subjective; in this show, for one, there are ships that in other canons would by all means be in that category, and here... not so much lol. I mean. When Megstiel starts they're enemies, she's tryting to end the world, and he throws her on a fire to step over her. They are probably one of the most wholesome pairings in my Forever OTPs Hall of Fame, all things considered xDD

Samruby. Duh. It's another candidate to that list, and it definitely qualifies as a dark ship. She gave him her blood to make him an addict, to trick him into ending the world as he knows it!! It compels me.

Positions 2-5 might change depending on my mood, but today I must go with Alastair x Dean. "I CARVED YOU INTO A NEW ANIMAL, DEAN". Torturer turned mentor, Dean's particular Hades, a thorn in his side he could never remove, the odd intimacy between them... oof.

Castiel x Lucifer, although only circa s5 when there was something I still thought Lucifer could add, even if I found him disappointing in some areas. I even have an endverse!Sastiel idea that obviously involves Lucifer, although being me I won't veer into non-con territory 'cause... no (plus that Lucifer came off as aggressively non-sexual to me tbh. Not so much later on, but welp. That could be another reason I don't like him at all later on). But I do find the idea, with the Lucifer we originally met, compelling lol.

Ranking every Teen Drama I have ever watched

(Updated)

The Secret Life of the American Teenager

+ young Shailene Woodley and Molly Ringwald I guess

- everything else. Even Shailene Woodley's and Molly Ringwald's performances weren't that great because the writing is just oh so bad. The background music is bland and repetative and it sounds like out of some teenager's YouTube chanel. The plotlines are ridiculous and convoluted, which isn't neccessarily such a bad thing, because it is a teen drama show after all, the problem is the show seems to take itself too seriously. Other entries on this list also have ridiculously convoluted plotlines, but I'm ranking them highed because they don't take themselves too seriously and don't claim to be realistic like this show does. Seriously, from the title it suggests like this was going to be a real, uncensored look into high school but it's the furthest thing from it. Not to mention how problematic it is- God forbid someone suggests that a 14-year-old pregnant girl gets an abortion or gives the baby up for adoption without being seen as a terrible and despicable person.

Otp: Marc Molina x a job somewhere far, far away from these kids

Notps: every single pairing on this show

Best moment: literally none

Weirdest moment: "I'm such a whore!" "Well, you're my whore." What were the writers thinking??? Was this supposed to be romantic??

We Children From Zoo Station

+the aesthetic, the casting of Christiane, Detlef and Axel

-this was such a letdown. Honestly I was so hyped for it after seeing the trailer since I've read the book and didn't particularly like the movie- I feel like it's hard to fit all of Christiane's story into 90 minutes. That's why I was so excited about this show. Christiane's story covers so much, so it's easier to make it into a TV show when you don't want to ommit anything and butcher the story. But they somehow managed to do it anyway. They changed so much for no reason and completely erased Christiane's childhood trauma, which was important in the book. Now, I know you can say that it's just a loose adaptation, so it doesn't have to follow the book word for word. But I feel like if you already decided to tell her- a real person's story- you should at least do it authentically. Imo they shouldn't have tried to make the setting vague. It worked with Sex Education because the story of Sex Education is timeless. However, Christiane's story is not timeless. It's a true story set in the 1970s. If they were making a new show from scratch, I would have liked it. But this is an already existing story and they’re supposed to be just retelling it. My last issue is a nit pick but I wish the actresses playing Stella and Babsi were reversed. It just would've fit better.

Best moment: Christiane's first time in Sound was pretty true to the book

Weirdest moment: when Detlef became a gigolo because he needed money for his dog. Who tf thought of that?

Pretty Little Liars

+ makeup, style, the theme song, the drama and mystery that always kept me guessing, the cliffhangers at the end of each episode that made it so addictive, Emily's coming out story, Hanna and Spencer had some good lines

- the mishandling of some serious issues (namely eating disorders), romantization of student-teacher relationship, the timeline not making much sense, these writers seem to put more thought into the characters' outfits than the storylines

Otps: Emily x Maya, Hanna x Caleb

Notp: Ezria

Best moment: Hanna and Caleb in the shower (the sexual tension was cuttable with a knife)

Weirdest moments: Aria asking Ezra out in the middle of a make-up test (it was supposed to be cute but it was just cringy), Spencer trying to block A's text messages on a laptop, in the middle of a park (what? Spencer, you were supposed to be the smart one!)

One Tree Hill

+ Brooke, the theme song, Chad Michael Murray

- the casual drinking and driving (I mean seriously these kids play a drinking game at a party and then casually hop into a car and drive home??), too much basketball and cheerleading (that's not a bad thing per se but I just don't really care about neither of these things), it just seems too stereotypical and kinda bland?? I couldn't really get into it

Otp: Naley

Notp: Peyton x Nathan

Best moment: Naley by the dock

Weirdest moment: "I guess I'm just a riddle, wrapped in a mystery inside a bitch." It's not really a bad moment but a cringy line. I guess the writers though they were being clever but it just sounded bad.

Dawson's Creek

+ the clothes, the 90s aesthetic, the 90s soundtrack, many movie references, Pacey is a sweetheart, Jen is a feminist icon, dealing with mental health issues through Andie (it's rare to see in shows as old as this)

- the slutshaming of Jen really hasn't aged well, the storyline of Pacey being statury raped by his much older teacher was mishandled (it was either treated as scandalous, cool or in Andie’s case somehow shameful), same goes for Jen’s backstory- it was mentioned she was raped at 12 by an older man and then never brought up again, Dawson is the most unlikable protagonist ever and his friendship/relationship with Joey is codependent and possessive, the dialogue is sometimes pretentious and unrealistic, the timeline doesn't really add up- I can never tell what time of the year it's supposed to be, because it looks like it's always fall for some reason. And how did they sophomore year have two homecomings?

Otps: Pacey x Andie, Pacey x Joey (yes, both at the same time)

Notp: Dawson x Joey

Best moments: Jen helping Joey when that jerk was spreading rumours about her and then Jen and Joey locking Abby in the closet together (I love it when they stick together instead of tearing each other down), Pacey and Joey bickering

Weirdest moments: when Joey was upset because Dawson didn’t want to tell her how often he “walks his dog”, when Jen was about to have a treesome at a party and Dawson walked into the room and carried her out despite her kicking and screaming

Glee

+ funny, Sue Sylvester's iconic, great covers and a way to find new songs, the performances are aesthetically pleasing, lgbtq+ representation, tackling of serious issues, coming out story, a father who’s accepting of his son’s sexuality right away despite not really understanding it (it’s so rare to see, that’s why it’s so refreshing), the plotlines are ridiculous but at least the show doesn't take itself too seriously

-as I already said the 1st season was great but after that it just seemed like the writers made up a checklist of hard issues they should tackle and tried to tackle every single one of them while covering every single song and it just fell flat. Prime example- Quinn ending up in a wheelchair getting into a car crash to warn us from drinking and driving, singing I’m Still Standing and then suddenly being able to walk normally after. a few episodes Rachel and Finn got almost all songs, while other characters were criminally underrated and underused (Tina, Quinn, Mercedes). The teachers are questionable to put it mildly. Cringy moments- Finn singing You're Having My Baby to Quinn in front of her parents when it wasn't even his baby! Also no one except of Kurt looks like they could be in high school. And why are these cheerleaders wearing their uniforms 24/7??

Otps: Brittana, Sam x Quinn, Tina x Artie (unpopular opinion, I know), Mr Schue x unemployment

Notp: Quinn x Finn

Best moments: Quinn giving birth to Bohemian Rhapsody

Weirdest moment: Rachel's gross and painfully awkward crush on Mr Schue, Mr Schue joining the Glee club on the stage for a performance of Toxic and girls in the audience cat calling him (Ewww)

Euphoria

+ Zendaya's and Jacob Elordi's performances, tackling of serious issues such as drug addiction and overdose, anxiety and depression, abusive relationships and abortion in a better manner than most (if not all) teen dramas, the aesthetics, makeup and wardrobe, the musical number in the finale, the special episodes giving us insight into the characters' psychology, toxic relationships not being romanticized (which is sadly rare), teenagers sounding like actual real life teens (no "I reject reality" crap)

- lack of comic relief (why so serious all the time), sexualization of teen characters (I know this is something many teen dramas are guilty of but it's the most evident here), too much nudity (I know some of you are going to come at me with: "But it's realistic!" So what? It is realitic that teenagers get naked when they go into shower but does it mean we have to see it?? It seems to me like this show is trying too hard to be "boundary pushing" at times and ends up being scandalous just for the sake of being scandalous), these characters just aren't believable as high school juniors to me (they sound like high schoolers but they certainly don’t act, look or dress that way). There's no reason this show couldn't have been set in college.

Otps: Rue x sobriety, Nate x prison

Notps: Nate x Maddy, Cassie x McKay

Best moments: "You did this to me!" and the musical number in the season 1 finale

Weirdest moment: the fact that Maddy lost her virginity at 14 to a 40-year-old man being mentioned so casually because apparently she was "totally in control". Excuse me what??

Skins

+ style and makeup- each character has a signature trademark (Sid and his beanie, Effy's eyeliner, Cassie's soft eyeshadow), their British accents, I'm pretty sure this is the only teen drama that follows multiple classes, teenage characters being played by actual teen actors, the characters looking like average people you meet in high school and not as if they just walked off the runway, dealing with serious issues such as drug abuse, eating disorder, parental abandonment etc (yes, some people claim the show romanticized it, but I disagree. It's not the show that romanticized it- it's the fans. The show tried to portray the dangers of drugs as well as possible. Think about it- every time characters used drugs it ended in a disaster. In the pilot they thought that Cassie overdosed and ended up crashing a car while rushing into the hospital. In later season Effy hit her friend in the head with a rock because she was having a bad trip. That's not romanticizing drugs.), Effy is iconic and honestly the first episode was enough to get me hooked

- every single teacher being a creep and having a thing for a student at some point, the show can get too dark and unncessarily dramatic at times. Did that many people have to die? Did Chris's death really have to be this graphic? Timeline doesn't really add up- are 8 episodes supposed to cover the whole year? It would've made more sense if there were more episodes in a season.

Notps: Sid x Michelle

Best moment: ooh baby it's a wild world

Weirdest moment: Chris's graphic death

The OC

+ more grounded in reality than many others on this list, the theme song, the love stories, Seth and Summer are funny, the friendships are believable and the whole group has great chemistry

- too many unneccessary fights, Luke is the worst, everyone is way too casual about drunk driving, these parents are WAAAY too chill (I know this can be said about many teen dramas but it's the most obvious here. How did the Roberts and the Coopers let two 16-year-old girls go to Mexico alone?? With no supervision?? What?)

Otps: Seth x Summer, Ryan x Marissa

Notp: Luke x Marissa

Best moments: the “oh no, there’s only one bed” in the Mexico episode, Seth and Summer's first kiss and that kiss at the yacht, Ryan and Marissa's first date by the pool

Weirdest moment: these parents letting their teenage kids go to Mexico alone. It's irresponsible when they're 16 but apparently they let them go there and party every year. What?

Gossip Girl

+ every episode having a clever title, the style, the makeup, the 00s soundtrack, the glamour of it all (it feels like reading a very gossipy magazine!), all the scandals, this show never pretends to portray the realitic teenage experience so it can pretty much be as far-fetched as it wants to and you can’t question it, it gives you a chance to live the fantasy of being super rich, living with a penthouse, riding a limo to school and going to parties in New York City every night

- the final reveal doesn't make any sense, just like with PLL these writers seemed to have put more thought into the outfits and makeup than into the plotlines, romantization of a toxic relationship, having every two straight characters date or hook up at some point, which just felt forced, mishandling of serious issues (Blair's eating disorder, Eric's suicide attempt and Serena and Jenny's sexual assault from the pilot being brought up when it's convenient but not really dealt with and brushed off at other times), sexualization of teen characters

Otps: Dan x Blair, Serena x Nate

Notps: Chuck x Blair

Best moments: the Thanksgiving flashbacks, Blair and Serena running around New York and taking selfies in stolen dresses, Nate and Serena’s first time (although it was better in the books) and then their kiss at the white party, the sheer scandal of "I killed someone", Dan giving Blair a plastic tiara to make her feel like a princess

Weirdest moments: Chuck's father returning from the death and then dying again, by yeeting himself off the roof

Freaks and Geeks

+ probably the most realistic teen drama there is, the characters dress the way I can see actual teens dressing, funny, but also heatbreaking at times, probably the only teen show that included an intersex character, the characters being a little stereotypical but self-aware at least, young James Franco and Jason Segel

- the bullying being a bit too much at times and it's a bit unrealistic that the teachers would do literally nothing about it, too short- I will never understand why this got cancelled

Otps: Daniel x Kim, Lindsay x Nick, Amy x Ken

Notps: Sam x Cindy

Best moments: Sam breaking down at the end of Garage Door, Daniel and Kim getting back together in the rain

Weirdest moment: Cindy doing a 180 and becoming super mean when she started dating Sam.

Gilmore Girls

+ so many movie, literary and music references, the quotable lines (what a great way to learn about new movies, books and bands! It’s so unique for a TV show to make you smarter), the witty banter, the comfort of the first few seasons (it really feels like wrapping a warm blanket around yourself while holding a hot cup of coffee, I can’t explain why, but it’s such a comfort show), the quirky small town with many unique festivals, many entertaining and snappy fights where everyone has a point, characters dealing with real world problems (seriously, how often do you see a storyline about termites? Or a teenager with zit cream on a teen drama show?), this is also one of the few shows where teenagers are shown to have rules and restrictions and curfews (finally some kids growing up with strict parents representation) and doing homework and studying and not just partying and drinking and having sex all the time and that’s so refreshing

- but while it is refreshing to see teenagers waiting to have sex and not doing it behind every corner, the show is kind of sex negative. Every single time a (female) character loses her virginity it ends in a disaster. Even when she loses it after she’s married! It doesn’t make any sense, unless the writers just really hated women. Also slutshaming (”I got the good kid!”) ewww. The money and budget doesn’t make much sense on the show either and the girls seem immune to calories. I know some people might come at me for this with: “But it’s just a show!” but I think it’s harmful to show beautiful, thin women eat nothing but tons of junkfood all the time and never excersize and then fatshame people who do excersize but aren’t fortunate enough to be blessed with amazing Gilmore genes, and then throw around tactless references to eating disorders.

Notps: Lane x Zach, Rory x Dean, Lorelai x Christopher

Best moments: Then She Appeared, Rory’s valedictorian speech, Lorelai’s graduation

Weirdest moment: Lorelai and Christopher getting married in Paris at 4am. That’s not how it works in Europe. Do Americans think every single Europian country works like Las Vegas, where you can just get married whenever you decide??

I try to find the humor in everything. I’ll start a post trying to be serious and somehow find something funny in it. For example, during the Ghoul battle, Cloud saves Tifa and Aerith and they get hit by some blue jizz fire. I thought it was funny that Cloud’s flat ass is on display. I will point out stupid shit.

Just a little fic I wanted to write based on a prompt I saw on OTP Prompt Generator.

Summary:

Dean grumbled quietly to himself, adding another item to the ever-increasing list of supplies they’ll need to stock up on. “The supplies are getting depressingly low in here. I’m nearly out of beers, the meat-man needs to stock up on his meats-,”

“No more of the meat man!”

Prompt: Person A is about to leave to go to work. Person B asks Person A if they’ve forgotten anything, and Person A gives them a kiss. Person B turns red and opens their hand to reveal Person A’s keys/wallets etc, saying “I meant this, but thanks…”

He was perfectly content with showing Cas the classics: Tombstone, The Shining, Star Wars, Star Trek, Back To The Future, Ghost Busters. You know, classics. But Sammy wasn’t happy with that. No, he just had to go and put on all those crappy, cheesy rom-com’s and romances. And yeah, Dean could leave the room, but that’s just rude, right? It’s not like he wants to watch them or anything…

Honestly, Dean thought the romance films would go over terribly with Cas. Dean - and he’s sure Sam was too- was preparing for a multitude of questions from Cas about every damn scene. He’d already had a taste of that fun experience with ‘The Pizza Man’, so he was certain that Cas watching people try to flirt with each other would only confuse the poor guy even more.

But Cas didn’t ask questions.

In fact, Cas didn’t say one word throughout every one of them. Unless you counted his pleas for Dean to stay quiet (personally, Dean thought his jokes added a much needed comedic break). Cas would be glued to the tv, only blinking about three or four times a minute (not that Dean was watching or anything, just something he had noticed), making sure every bit of his attention was directed towards whatever couple was on the screen that night.

It must have been that. Watching ‘human courtship’, as Cas would put it, seeing the domesticity that comes to people who don’t know what’s really out there. That can be the only thing Cas got it from, surely.

“For a health nut, he sure does love stealing my beers…” Dean muttered into the cold air of the open refrigerator, bent down and peering into its fluorescent-lit interior. “Won’t eat real bacon, but he’s happy to chow down on the meat-mans burgers…”

“Dude, I’m like, right here. I can hear you, you know.” Sam called from behind the lid of his laptop, sat at the bunker’s kitchen table. Jack happily munched on his ‘Krunch Cookie Crunch’ opposite Sam, amused eyes flickering between the two brothers.

“That’s coz’ you were meant to.” Dean slammed the refrigerator door shut behind him, turning and leaning against the gleaming silver door- thanks to a recent clean by yours truly, thank you very much.

“And for the last time,” Sam said with just a hint of defeat in his voice. “You’ve really got to stop calling yourself the meat man.”

“Listen, Sammy - you can say it means what you say it means, but I’m just gonna go on blissfully unaware, going by what I think it means.”

“That’s… that’s not how it works.” Sam tried to argue.

Jack’s entertained smile had turned to a perplexed frown at their conversation. “What does ‘meat-man’ mean?”

“Alright, that's-” Sam cleared his throat awkwardly, slowly closing the lid of his laptop down. “That’s a conversation I’m not ready for.” Sam shot a strained smile at Jack before turning his pointed gaze to Dean. “For neither of you.”

“Well someone’s gotta give the poor kid the birds and the bees talk.” Dean shot his own pointed glare back at Sam. “Or, we can just do it my way – give the kid a laptop, go to the internet and load up some good ol’ fashioned por-”

“From my own experience, I can tell you that’s a very poor way of learning such a topic.” Castiel’s voice filtered in from the doorway to the kitchen, the ends of his trenchcoat billowing behind him as he entered the room and descended the few steps to reach the kitchen table.

“Eh, well, he’s your kid, Cas. ‘The talk’ is your job.” Dean turned back to the various cupboards behind him, trifling through the depleted looking pantry in search of something to eat. “Hey Sam, you seen where those little cheese cracker thingies went?”

“I think we might have finished those off last night. Or the night before?”

“No more of the meat man!”

Dean cut Sam off by pointing a finger at the colorful box of ‘Krunch Cookie Crunch’ next to Jack’s half-eaten bowl of said sugary cereal. “-And I’m pretty damn sure that’s the last box of that stuff. And I bet you’ll be out by tomorrow morning, right?”

Jack’s eyes darted down towards the few soggy pieces of cereal floating in his bowl, eying up the amount of milk that remains before pulling the box of cereal closer and peering into its contents. “…Maybe…”

Castiel had opened his mouth to add something to Dean’s list, but Dean cut him off before he could get it out with a click of his fingers and a pointed finger directed at him. “And Cas needs more of that weird grape jelly stuff.”

Castiel watched Dean with a frown as he pulled a small notepad out of a drawer, scribbling down the loosely formed list he had in his mind. “What’s wrong with grape jelly?”

“Nothing wrong per se… it’s just a terrible flavor that tastes nothing like grape.”

“I like peanut butter and grape jelly sandwiches…” Castiel sounded so genuinely disheartened by Dean’s opinion of his flavor choice that Dean couldn’t even find it within himself to keep making fun of the poor guy.

“I know, Cas.” Dean told him with a soft smile. “That’s why I buy it for you.”

“You mean that’s why random credit card companies buy it for him.” Sam leaned back on the crickety wooden chair, stretching his arms behind his back until it made a satisfying ‘pop’.

“The day I get paid an honest day’s wages for the honest day’s work I do is the day I no longer rip off multi-billionaire companies and Uncle Sam.” Dean roughly folded up the shopping list and stuffed it into the back of his jeans pocket. “You wanna come with, Cas?”

“Me?” Cas asked, his brows pinched together as if he couldn’t fathom why Dean would ever want for him to tag along.

“Yeah, you.” Dean confirmed with a sharp, short chuckle. “Sammy makes me buy all the healthy crap that tastes equally crap whenever he comes along, and Jack throws so much stuff in the cart that he wants to try that I’m honestly worried it’s gonna max out the card every damn time we go grocery shopping.”

“Sorry…” Jack muttered sheepishly.

“Don’t worry about it.” Cas said to Jack, shooting him a wink. “Teasing is one of the only ways Dean knows how to show affection.”

Dean narrowed his eyes dangerously at Castiel, pushing himself off the counter and brushing his hands together. “You coming or what?”

“If you’ll have me.”

Dean rolled his eyes and shook his head at Castiel's wording, steadily ignoring the red flush that he could feel creeping up the side of his neck. “Let’s get going, then. Come on, I’ll even let you drive Baby.”

Even Jack’s head whipped up, scarily in sync with Sam as they stared up at Dean in disbelief. “What?” Dean asked them. “Why are you guys looking at me like that?”

“You just asked Cas if he wanted to drive the Impala.” Sam said slowly, like Dean hadn’t heard and understood his own words.

“Yeah? So what? I let Jack drive Baby before, and he was only, what, a year and a half old?”

“I was dying.” Jack stated. “I assumed that had something to do with it?”

“Well, yeah, but…”

“I promise I’ll be careful with her.” Castiel interrupted Dean’s scramble to find an answer. Dean glanced up, seeing the conviction on his face that matched the tone of his voice, and knew Castiel meant that. Cas knew how important Baby was to him. Dean knew Cas would treat her right.

“See?” Dean gestured a hand towards Cas. “Besides, it’s about time Cas got to drive a real car, and not that vomit-beige colored monstrosity of his.” Dean caught sight of Cas’s affronted face out of the corner of his eye. This would quickly turn into another argument if he wasn’t careful. “C’mon, Cas. Let’s get going.”

Dean dug his hands into his front jeans pockets, clasping Baby’s keys in his fist, only to look up and see Castiel already partway out of the door. Cas wasn’t going to get very far in the Impala without her keys…

“Hey, Cas!” Dean yelled after Cas, who came to a somewhat stumbling halt in his steps. Cas turned on the spot once he had stopped, tilting his head and raising an eyebrow in question. “You forgetting something?”

Cas’s curious look only grew more intense. Dean could practically see the gears turning in the angel's head, trying to figure out what Dean was suggesting. There was a split second shift to his expression, one Dean could only describe as disbelief before Cas had schooled his expression back to neutral. Castiel had apparently figured out what he had forgotten as he moved towards him, and Dean pulled his hand out of his pocket, ready to pass the keys over to Cas.

Except, instead of stopping and holding out his hands for the keys, Castiel just kept getting closer to him. Dean didn’t even get a chance to remind Cas about personal space before ‘holy crap blue eyes super close’, and then Dean’s mind all but short-circuits when it registers Castiel’s chapped lips pressed against his. It didn’t last very long – or maybe it did, Dean might have blacked out for a bit – but it was long enough that Dean couldn’t brush this off as a funny case of ‘I tripped and my lips fell on yours’.

By the time Castiel had pulled away, Dean was sure his eyes were going to pop right out of his skull. A quick glance over to Sam confirmed he had seen the whole thing – at least, that’s going by the incredibly thinned straight-faced smile on his brother's face as he chokes down his laughter. Jack was smiling like this was completely normal, but then again, the kids always smiling – he might not have even noticed the show of affection right in front of him.

“Um…” Is the only word that came to Dean’s mind once it had restarted. Castiel’s face didn’t show any signs that he had realized how weird this whole situation was, and was waiting patiently for Dean to find his words. Dean slowly lifted his hand until it was sat between the two of them, uncurling his fingers to reveal the keys in his grasp. “I, uh… I meant these, but… thanks?”

Dean watched as Castiel's eyes focused in on the keys. To Cas’s credit, he didn’t seem in the least bit embarrassed by what he had done. He simply swept the keys out of Dean’s palms and pocketed them in his trench-coat with a soft smile. “I assumed you would pass them over once we were in the car, but thank you.” And then, to add insult to injury, Castiel leaned up and planted a kiss on Dean’s cheek like it was no big deal. He had done it so casually - as if it had been a part of their routine for years.

Dean could only stand there like an idiot and watch Castiel as he walked out of the room, beige trench-coat fluttering out of sight. After a few seconds of the most awkward silence Dean thinks he’s ever had to live through, Dean blurts out what’s on his mind. “What just happened?”

Sam’s chair scraped obnoxiously loudly as he stood, tucking it back under the table with that annoying strained smile of his still in place. “I’m not entirely sure but uh…” Sam stopped in front of Dean on his way out of the kitchen, giving his big brother a friendly pat on the shoulder. “I think Cas is dropping hints he wants a little more. Maybe. Possibly.”

Sam left the room, not after his words had completely thrown Dean for a loop. Now Jack was the only one left in the room with Dean, his customary gentle smile having been replaced with a contemplating frown, staring down at the bowl of milk in front of him like it held all the answers.

“What's wrong with you?” Dean asked, trying to get back to some sense of normality.

Jack looked up from his bowl, tilting his head in a way that was so very Cas. “I don’t get what Sam meant.”

“Oh.” Oh no…. “Uh, well, it’s-”

“I thought you and Cas were already married?”

For the record this is the only recent picture of myself I like and this is about as much of my face as you’ll ever see bc I know my angles.

9. What do you/did you study?: I went to school for a Bachelors in Arts with and emphasis on Sciences but never finished it bc 1) college is expensive and 2) I don’t know what I want to do career-wise so there’s not a point in going back anymore.

10. What’s your current job like?/What job would you like to have?: I’m a service desk associate at a department store. Something where I could deal with less people bc boy does this job push my patience sometimes.

11. What is your birth order?: Firstborn/Oldest.

12. How many siblings do you have?: Technically four, but only two living.

13. Do you have good relations with your family?: My immediate family. My siblings are closer to each other (but they’re only two years apart) but we get along. I also have a good relationship with my parents though I’m not as close to my mom as I could be it’s hard to forget the not nice things your parent say to you as a kid.

14. How many friends do you have?: Lots though only a few I see/talk to on a regular basis.

To sum it up, I mostly play RPGs/JRPGs, open-world, survival horror (my fave), and a few (emphasis on few) FPS. Favorites are (once again with a limit): Bioshock, Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Until Dawn, Silent Hill 2, and Fatal Frame.

UDHGE 2019 RULES

Hey all, now that we've established that UDGE will be continuing for the forseeable future, we'd like to set some ground rules for this exchange! Sorry about the long wait on this, we’ve both been slammed with work and sorting out a move soon!

It is extremely important that you read this set of rules, as there are important updates since the last exchange!

First and foremost, the main reason there were issues last time was due to people flaking out. Please know that this exchange, and every one in the future, will include a ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY regarding this. In short, this means that if you don't do your part in the exchange (making and posting a gift) with no communication about why you haven't done your part, you will no longer be able to participate in ANY future gift exchange. We feel that it's really unfair to others that some people have tried to take advantage of the exchange to receive a gift but not have to do anything in return. This ruins the fun, as well as the entire point of the exchange. Of course, if you have an actual emergency come up, this doesn't apply, and we totally get if you need to back out of the exchange! Just let us know about your situation ASAP so we can figure something out for your recipient!

The above policy also goes for people not liking/reblogging the gift they were given (barring an emergency related absence). The giving aspect is half of the fun, and that half gets taken away from people who receive no thanks for something that was personalized and took time to create.

Lack of communication was also an issue last time, so we ask that you please make an effort to respond in a timely manner if one of us contacts you! Of course, we realize that nobody lives online, but if there's more than a week of no communication, we'll put you into warning status until you respond. Nagging is never fun for anyone involved, so please please please don't make us have to nag you!

This time around, we're also going to try doing a check in halfway with everyone on their progress! Aim to have at least some work on your exchange gift done by this date, whether that includes planning, a rough draft, or even the completed gift. Anyone who hasn't started at least planning their gift without a valid excuse will fall into warning status until gifts are posted and they post something. If you have gifted for other exchanges properly, we will be more lenient about this, though. Some people really only need a short while to complete their gifts, so if we have a conversation about this, warning status can easily be avoided.

Now that the new stuff is out of the way, here's some of the basic guidelines for the exchange:

STANDARD RULES:

Please make sure that your Elfster name includes your tumblr URL. Make sure you create 6 wishlists, which should include your top TWO UD OTPs, your top TWO UD BROTPs, and your top TWO favorite UD characters. Feel free to add more and/or indicate which ones you prefer, if any in your lists. Having a bigger selection of characters ensures that everyone will be creating content that they are at least comfortable with.

Specifically for the Halloween exchange: everyone must create an additional list stating whether or not they are alright with gore/body horror being present in their gift, as 'tis the season. If yes, please also list any notable triggers or anything of the like that you are not comfortable with. If your recipient is not okay with gore, under no circumstances should you include it. Gore must be tagged with "#horror, #gore, and #body horror (when applicable), as well as any specific triggers in the gift. If you're not sure how to tag these things or what to tag, please send the gift/gift description to @chrisheartley or @joshuawashua.

Please also make an effort to respect others' religious views when creating a gift. If unsure of a person's comfort level with something (e.g. satanic symbols), you can send an anonymous ask, or request that one of the moderators inquire for you.

Gifts must be one of the following: fanart, fanfiction, video/photo edits, a playlist, or a combination of the above (e.g. fanfiction to support a piece of fanart). On October 31, 2019, all gifts must be posted onto tumblr with the following hashtags: "#udge2019 #until dawn #until dawn gift exchange 2019" the tags must also include any characters or ships within the work (e.g. "#josh washington #sam giddings #jossam") and MUST be marked as NSFW if applicable.

Gifts are exchanged entirely online, which means that nothing should be purchased or mailed for the exchange. Artwork should be original and complete, meaning that you should avoid giving doodles/sketches as gifts. For fanfiction, try to reach a minimum of 2500 words (unless used in combination with another gift, such as artwork or a photo edit). Playlists must include at least 10 songs, as well as a cover image (either original or credited). Video edits should be a minimum of 2 minutes in length, and photo edits must include a minimum of four photos, which must all be credited to the best of your ability. If you feel you have an exception, please don't hesitate to contact either of us. Overall, gifts must be complete, well thought out, and should take a minimum of 1 hour to create (this does include time taken to find songs/photos/video clips for those who decide to work with those medium).

This time, we're keeping the NSFW gifts around. However, this requires you to provide an email to or coordinate other social media platforms with your gifter on the exchange date if they have any sort of NSFW image in their gift. Do not indicate that you are comfortable with NSFW gifts if you are uncomfortable sharing emails with another person. We'll post more detailed instructions on how to send NSFW image based gifts after the signup deadline has passed. If you are alright with receiving an NSFW gift, please create an additional wishlist on Elfster simply stating "NSFW friendly". (Note that although you may indicate a willingness to receive something NSFW, this does not guarantee you an NSFW gift). If your recipient has not indicated their willingness to receive an NSFW gift, your work must be 100% SFW (no sexual themes). YOU MUST BE 18+ TO LIST YOURSELF AS NSFW FRIENDLY IN ANY WAY. NO EXCEPTIONS. FAILURE TO ADHERE TO THIS RULE WILL RESULT IN AN IMMEDIATE BAN FROM FUTURE EVENTS.

This exchange does have a theme! It's Halloween specific, although you can feel free to broaden the theme to general fall activities if you don't celebrate or just don't want to do anything Halloween-y!

Emergency Ghosts! They work the same as Emergency Elves, just a little spookier! As this exchange grows, there are inevitably people who for various reasons are unable to complete a gift. As an EG, you will be the first people we go to to take over to create an emergency mini-gift to make sure that nobody leaves this exchange empty handed. N - Name three things you wish you saw more or in your main fandom (or a fandom of choice). - Fanart, more fanfic and more meta discussions. I know with Sanctuary we’re in a tiny fandom, and it’s older, but I’d love some indepth episode analysis. Maybe I’m just not looking in the right places, but yeah. And I always want new fanfic and fanart. XD

I - Has Tumblr caused you to stop liking any fandoms, if so, which and why? - I’ve actually started liking some fandoms because of Tumblr, not the other way around. I’m sure someone will correct me, but I’ve not stopped liking a fandom because of Tumblr, so... win?

K - What character has your favorite development arc/the best development arc? - Considering all the shit she had to deal with, Dana Scully had an amazing development. Still a scientist by the end, she can conceed to the idea of something other, maybe not aliens, but something bigger than herself.

O - Choose a song at random. Which ship or character does it remind you of? - So I popped my music player on, fast forwarded through like five songs and landed on Jailhouse Rock from Blues Brothers, which made me think of Henry. *Shrugs* I think it’s the bounciness of it, and the joy in it. :)

L - Say something genuinely nice about a character who isn’t one of your faves. (Characters you’re neutral about are fair game, as are characters you merely dislike. Characters that you absolutely loathe with the fire of ten thousand suns are exempt, as there is no point in giving yourself an aneurysm over a character that you hate.) - John is very good at killing people messily (it keeps crime scene cleaners in business which is a good thing).

A - Ships that you currently like a lot. (They don’t have to be OTPs because not everyone has OTPs.) Friendships, pairings, threesomes, etc. are allowed. - I don’t really have any others to add to the list I posted here. I mean, I still have hankerings for Shenny, J/C, MSR, but not as often as I used to. (My AO3 home page has two favourited filters - Teslen and Sam/Jack. Any other ships just sorta float by and if I wanna read, I will. XD)

NCIS: Los Angeles Season Eight Rewatch: "Old Tricks" The basics: Even with Kensi back, the team isn't quite working at full strength as Callen deals with a personal matter, Sam works with the Secret Service and Kensi and Deeks deal with a pair of “mature” con artists. Eric and Nell deal with the last few months. Granger does it his way. Written by: Andrew Bartels, who wrote “Glasnost” earlier this season as well as writing or co-writing “Allegiance”, “Zero Days”, “The Grey Man”, “Humbug”, “Fighting Shadows”, “Driving Miss Diaz”, “Angels & Daemons” and “Where There’s Smoke…”

Directed by: Terrence Nightingall, who directed “Expiration Date”.

Guest stars of note: Peter Cambor is back from "Kulinda" as Operational Psychologist Nate Getz. Daniel J. Travanti as Garrison, India De Beaufort as Alexandra Reynolds and Makai Dudeck as Jake (Alex's son) all return from "Glasnost". Martin Mull as Edward O’Boyle, Debra Jo Rupp as Ginger, Marsha Thomason as Secret Service Special Agent Nicole Dechamps, Terryn Westbrook as Rebecca the nursing home administer, Mike Erwin as Pacey Smith. Anzu Lawson was the hit woman in Granger's room in "Payback" but here is a nurse. John Colton as Louis Miller. Jeronimo Spinx returns from "Under Siege" as NCIS Agent Thompson.

Our heroes: Enjoy a reset episode, a palate cleanser. What important things did we learn about: Callen: Learning family can be a full-time job. Sam: Working with a new partner today. Kensi: Just plain old working today. Deeks: Knows Ginger is a stone-cold fox but he has a ladybird of his own. Eric: Getting the help he needs. Nell: Getting the help she needs. Granger: Going out on his own terms. Hetty: One last trip to Granger's hospital room. What not so important things did we learn about:

Callen: Thrilled Kensi is back. Sam: Thrilled Kensi is back. Kensi: With Ginger, realizes you love who you love. Deeks: Thrilled Kensi is back. Eric: Taking a two-hour midday break. Nell: Thrilled Kensi is back. Granger: Has a long recovery ahead of him. Hetty: Doesn't want to talk about that bitch, Joelle. Who's down with OTP: Deeks and Kensi were back working together as if she never missed a day. Kensi saw that she and Deeks were the younger, law-enforcement end of Edward O’Boyle and Ginger, the smooth-talking con-man and his stone-cold fox. Who's down with BrOTP: Not a lot of opportunity for that in this hour. Any Hanna family mentions: In one deleted scene, Sam mentions his beautiful wife and kids.

Fashion review: Callen is in a dark blue tee-shirt with a medium blue jacket. Black henley and black jacket for Sam. Deeks is wearing a white tee-shirt with a blush red zip-up hoodie. Fantastic black henley for Kensi with blue stripes – this needs to be a regular in the Kensi tops rotation - and a black leather jacket. Dark blue plaid shirt for Eric over a darker blue tee. Blue dress with a red sweater for Nell. Brown herringbone suit for Hetty with a black wool coat. By the way – Nate's shirt needs an extra button. The fit is odd. Music: "Knocking on Heaven's Door" by the Jenerators (Miguel Ferrer's band) at the end. Any notable cut scene: Two. Scene one would be the start to act one. A bored Callen, looking to the stairs for Ops for any sign of Eric or Nell, tells Sam he doesn't mind a few quiet days but things are dull. Sam tells Callen to enjoy the quiet. Callen isn't looking for anything complicated – no mole, no double-crosses. Sam adds no "Hetty-crosses" to Callen list. Mentioning that Sherlock Holmes started to do drugs when his cases dried up, Sam suggests they hit the gym. Callen is thinking more firing range. Eric comes down the steps with the old saying "A watched pot never Beales." They have a case – finally. Sam guess money laundering, drug dealing. Callen thinks stolen arms. No, a missing Nuke. In Ops, Nell clears up that a missing Nuke is this case is a person who works in the nuclear field for the Navy. Eric apologizes for alarming everyone. They move into the description of Lt. Miller.

Scene two has Sam and Dechamps going to Lt. Miller's house. Sam isn't looking for the missing gold coin. He's there to find MSgt Miller. Sam asks Dechamps if she's ever worked a protection detail for the Secret Service. She did once, hated it. Long hours, no personal life. Sam talks about his full personal life with a beautiful wife, two kids and a car he's rehabbing. Sam notices the door the house is opened. He and Dechamps enter the house but they're alone. The place has been tossed. Dechamps sees a picture of Lt. Miller’s father and can't imagine how painful it would be to lose him. Sam finds a folded flag – probably the flag used at Lt. Miller’s father’s funeral - and refolds it properly and returns it to its case.

Quote: Nell: "Eric, you don't have to do that." Eric: "Hmm?" Nell: "I know you're seeing Nate." Eric: "Yeah. So, is this weird? Because you used to see Nate? I mean, like "see him" see him?" Nell: "Eric, I'm still seeing Nate." Eric: "What?" Nell: "As my psychologist." Eric: "Right." Nell: "I think this has been a really difficult year for all of us. Eric: "Yeah." Nell: "I mean, Kensi and the mole and all that fieldwork. And your drone strike over Syria. You know, we never talked about that." Eric: "I don't know how. You go through the same stuff I go through every day. And you're just always so…” Nell: "I'm not, Eric. I'm really not."

Glad they spent the time in the episode on this and not the two cut scenes.

Anything else: Previouslys included Callen, Sam and Arkady finding Garrison in the hospital in "Glasnost", Callen finding out he has a half-sister and a nephew and agreeing to tell Alex about her family.

An older gentleman, former Korean war vet, is being wheeled into an ambulance from the Bayside Veteran's Retirement Home. His adult grandson is with him, offering encouragement as they settle into the ambulance. Noticing both EMTs are in the back of the vehicle – "doesn't one of you have to drive?" the grandson asks. The EMTs attack and drug the younger man with his grandfather watching on horror. Once the younger man is incapacitated, the ambulance takes off.

In the boat shed, Kensi is checking on Nate's mental health status after she explains what happened during the previous three episodes. Kensi wants to know if she's cleared to return to work. Nate thinks after all they went through, the entire team isn't ready to go back. Kensi is upset – is he going to shut down the entire office? That's what the mole would want. Maybe Nate's the mole. Kensi asks Nate how long he was working for the CIA. When Nate trips over his words, Kensi starts laughing. Nate takes this as a good sign – Kensi's confidence has returned. Unless she is faking being confident. Kensi isn't having any of this. She promises to throw him through a window if he doesn't let her back in the field. And now Nate is sure Kensi is back to her old self and is the Kensi the team needs in the field. When Kensi asks again if she can go back to work, Nate tells her that from the sound of things, she's been back for a while. A happy Kensi thanks Nate.

In Ops, Nell explains to Callen and Sam that the grandson in the ambulance is Lt. Warren Miller, USN and the master designer of the Navy's latest nuclear aircraft carriers. Callen knows there are a long list of countries who would love Miller's designs. Eric tells them about the incident in the ambulance. The grandfather is Master Sgt. Louis Miller, a Silver Star Medal winner and a two-time Purple Heart recipient. MSgt. Miller started having a hard time breathing last night and while the ambulance took him from the retirement home, they never got to the hospital.

Sam is suspicious of the paramedics. Eric shows Callen and Sam the EMTs ID's. They were found bound and gagged in a utility shed in Balboa Park. Lt. Miller and MSgt. Miller are missing. Deeks is off interviewing the EMTs. Eric's tablet beeps. The ambulance was found in a downtown parking lot. Callen and Sam are on their way. Eric leaves with them, leaving Nell confused. Eric isn't working with Callen and Sam in the field – he has an appointment to handle and should be back in a few hours. Nell is surprised, worried that Eric is OK. He is, he'll just be back in a few hours.

Callen and Sam drive up to the stolen ambulance. They find nobody in the driver's area. Lt. Miller is unconscious in the back of the vehicle. He was given enough opioids to kill him. Callen calls for an ambulance but they realize they're in one. Sam starts searching for drugs to save Lt. Miller while Callen hotwires the ambulance to get them to the hospital. As Sam starts to offer first aid, Callen has to hit a washing machine to get out of the parking lot.

Callen and Sam waking back into the office. Lt. Miller is in rough shape but will live. Still no word on MSgt Miller. Kensi walks by as they make their way to the bull pen area. Sam asks how things went with Nate. "He thinks we're all permanently scarred and dangerous to society but then I reminded him that I could kick his ass, and, um, voila." "About damn time" from Sam but Callen liked having his desk area to himself. Nell arrives. Deeks is on his way in. The real EMTs told Deeks they were called to the retirement home. As they were going to leave, they were attacked, had their ambulance stolen and uniforms taken. The men stealing the ambulance wore masks. The call for assistance was made from a burn phone. The team realizes that maybe the plan wasn't to kidnap Lt. Miller, maybe it was to get to his grandfather.

Nell runs downs MSgt. Miller's credentials – Korea, Vietnam, the medals. Sam is impressed. The Millers are a military family. MSgt. Miller's grandfather served in WWI, his father was killed in WWII. MSgt. Miller's own son, Lt. Miller's father, was killed in Desert Storm. Hetty arrives – this case may have started with a missing lieutenant but now the case is about the older Miller. Kensi thinks they should start at the nursing home – there could be someone working on the inside. Hetty agrees – she wants Kensi and Deeks at the home undercover. She also welcomes Kensi back with a big smile. Kensi is pleased as is the rest of the team.

Hetty sends Sam to the boat shed to meet a Secret Service Agent. MSgt. Miller is a person of interest in one of their investigations. Hetty needs to talk to Callen in her office. "Have fun." Nell offers as Callen leaves.

Not surprisingly, Hetty is making tea in her office. Callen notes that Kensi isn't the only one back at work – the mole has been ID'd and Hetty has her job back. Hetty calls this a small victory at a great cost. Callen agrees and asks about Granger. Hetty thinks it is going to be a long recovery but he'll pull through. Another matter has come to Hetty's attention. Callen thinks he knows why Hetty has him in her office- Joelle. "No, I don't want to talk about that bitch," Hetty says. Linda Hunt delivers that line with such elegance and malice. It is wonderful.

Instead, Hetty wants to talk about "your sister Alex." Callen corrects with half-sister but Hetty has other concerns. Pacey Smith, Alex's ex-husband, has a record. He's been out of jail for about five months. Callen is keeping an eye on Smith. So is Garrison, according to Hetty. Callen is stunned Hetty is tracking his father. Since he's in the country under NCIS's authority, he is their responsibility. Callen disagrees – his father is his responsibility. Hetty pushes Callen to tell Alex about her true past. While waiting for the mole business to shake out was wise, "don't let a temporary solution become a permanent mistake."

At the nursing home, Kensi is getting a tour from an administrator. The administrator asks what Kensi is looking for in a nursing home for Kensi's grandmother. With a habit of sneaking off, Kensi is interested in the facility's security system to contain the fictional Grandma Blye. As Kensi and the administrator walk away from a recreation room, Deeks is walking in noting "And she doesn’t miss a beat." Kensi whispers the next part is his.

Deeks walks up to an older man sitting in a motorized wheelchair. Deeks is honored to meet "the man, the myth, the legend" Captain Westbrook and drops Hetty's name. Westbrook tells Deeks he knows Hetty but he doesn't know him. Deeks provides a code word – Diomedes (Greek war hero) – that earns a smile from Westbrook. Westbrook tells Deeks Hetty's old nickname – Hetty of Troy – because she could launch a thousand ships. Deeks asks if the Captain is up for one last mission and how fast does his wheelchair travel. The Captain is pleased.

While the administrator is showing Kensi the security set-up, Captain Westbrook starts racing through the hallway on his wheelchair. Westbrook is played by legendary stuntman Terry Leonard. As the administrator leaves to chase Westbrook down, Kensi starts links the hospital's security system to Ops. Deeks notes that Westbrook was flight Blackbirds over Russia in the 1960's – he'll probably hit Mach 3 in the wheelchair (Blackbirds were long-range spy planes that could hit Mach 3). Kensi is going to look at MSgt. Miller's room.

Garrison is in a parking garage opening the back door of his town car. There is a briefcase on the back seat. Thinking there was someone behind him, Garrison turns around with a gun from the briefcase. Callen is standing there. "It is not mine," Garrison tells his son. Callen doesn't think that's any better. Callen says they haven't been in touch in a while – why is Garrison in Los Angeles. Garrison says it is better if Callen doesn't know. Callen knows it is about Pacey Smith. Smith served his time – in America give people a second chance. No reaction from Garrison. Callen wonders if Garrison believes in second chances and if he doesn't, why is Garrison in LA? They made a deal about no more secrets but Garrison asks what happened to the part of the deal that included telling Alexandra about the two of them but the minute there was trouble, he wouldn't. Garrison thinks Callen made the right decision – "you must protect family." Callen is exasperated. He tells his father to stay away from Pacey Smith. "That might prove difficult," Garrison says, popping the trunk of his car. Pacey Smith is tied up in the trunk.

Callen tries to explain to Garrison that while you may stuff people you don't like into your car trunk in Russia, you don't do those things here. Garrison calmly explains that if they were in Russia, Smith would be dead. Callen reminds Garrison that Smith is the father of Alex's son. Garrison reminds Callen that Smith is a drug dealer who wasn't rehabilitated in prison. Showing Callen photos, Garrison has evidence of Smith meeting with drug dealers from a Mexican cartel and also hanging out with Alex and her son a few days prior.

Sam walks into the boat shed as NCIS Agent Thompson deals with Secret Service Agent Dechamps. She is tired of waiting for Sam. Sam introduces himself and a happy Agent Thompson leaves. Sam asks about the Secret Service's interested in MSgt. Miller. Dechamps has a photo of a coin – a 1933 Double Eagle gold coin. In 1934, the US Government made it illegal for Americans to have gold currency and Dechamps thinks MSgt. Miller had a coin. Sam is outraged that a decorated veteran is being investigated for pocket change – Sam thought there was some sort of threat to the President. Dechamps explains that 15-years ago, a Double Eagle sold at auction for $7.5 million. That gets Sam's attention.

Dechamps, who specialty is financial crimes, explains that while the coins never made it into circulation, a coin or two shows up among collectors occasional. The Secret Service has tracked them down over the years. A U.S. mint employee back in the 1930's took some and a co-worker, MSgt. Miller's grandfather took another. Dechamps believes the coin has been passed down from generation to generation. Dechamps was looking for MSgt. Miller but she can't find him. Sam tells Dechamps what happened to Lt. Miller and asks if she interviewed him at the retirement home. She says she did – he doesn't get around well. Sam talks about someone at the home being in on the kidnapping. While Dechamps said they spoke privately, she saw an old man standing near MSgt. Miller's door possibly eavesdropping. While she didn't catch a name, she could ID him in a photo line-up.

Nell contacts Deeks about an Edward O'Boyle – Agent Dechamps picked him out as the man listening at Louis Miller's door. O'Boyle is playing cards with two other of his fellow residents with a woman watching them. Deeks asks to join the gentlemen "and young lady" in the card game. They're playing Texas Hold 'Em. O'Boyle asks who Deeks is and when Deeks tries to explain he was visiting is uncle, O'Boyle wants him to leave – Deeks talks too much. The woman, Ginger, wants him to stay. Deeks gives her a wink and has to buy in for $100 – "high rollers". Deeks hands O'Boyle the money and is immediately chided for doing so. "Under the table," O'Boyle explains – they aren't in the Bellagio.

Working in Ops, Nell approaches Eric about his mid-day appointment. That is not like him and Eric agrees but it was a last-minute thing. Nell is fine with that and fine that they don't tell each other everything but she just wants to know if he would tell her if something was wrong. Before Eric can answer, Nate walks in hoping to check on his patient ... Kensi. Eric seems flustered before he starts talking about how well Kensi is doing. Nell's tablet beeps – Edward O'Boyle is setting off some alarms. While Nell wants to run some names with Eric, Eric isn't sure why Nate is there. "Kensi will be back later." Nate realizes Eric doesn’t want him around and decides to come back when Kensi returns.

Beach boy Deeks is asked if he is folding. Not only is Deeks not folding, he's all in. That scares off the two men who aren't O'Boyle in the game despite Ginger telling one he has a good hand. O'Boyle starts to cough when he hears this, pulling out a handkerchief. The woman suddenly needs to straighten her top and lift her breasts, catching everyone's attention but O'Boyle's. When O'Boyle regains his health, he wants to see Deeks's cards. Deeks has a full house but O'Boyle has four kings. As O'Boyle collects his winnings, Deeks talks about his sick uncle who could use the money. Deeks gets tears in his eyes and picking up O'Boyle's hankie finds some cards. The other players are shocked.

Deeks explains the real trick was while the card trick was great, what really sold it was Ginger distracting the other men. "It didn’t work on you even a little, handsome," Ginger says to Deeks. Deeks tells Ginger she is a stone-cold fox but he has a ladybird of his own. O'Boyle gives Deeks a big so what – he was caught cheating at cards, he's a war hero, so what. Deeks disagrees with the war hero statement – "the voices in my head tell me you're not." Deeks calls O'Boyle a liar but everyone lies. Pulling out his badge, Deeks tells them he wasn't there for his uncle.

As Ginger takes off down the hall, Deeks calls to Kensi that they have a runner well, "more like a slow walker, a scurry." While Kensi is cutting off Ginger before she can leave, O'Boyle takes his cane and hits Deeks in the back of the head with it. Deeks doesn't want to fight O'Boyle but needs to disarm him. O'Boyle uses his cane as if it were a sword. Kensi and Ginger see this spectacle. Ginger doesn't think you can chose who you love. As Deeks finally gets the cane away from O'Boyle, Kensi agrees with her prisoner. Ginger tries to run away again with no success.

Smith is out of the trunk with the duct tape over his mouth yanked off. He is begging Callen and Garrison not to kill him – "you can destroy it," he tells them. Callen wants to know where "it" is. When Smith doesn't want to answer, Callen turns him over to Garrison. Smith wants no part of that and shows Callen where “it” is – it is a bug that records but does not transmit. Smith is wearing a wire for LAPD as an informant.

At the boat shed, O'Boyle and Ginger want their lawyer. Their lawyer, Deeks tells them, wants no part of their case. The two are con artists with multiple outstanding warrants in multiple states. Kensi explains that they are con artists who convince elderly people in nursing home after nursing home to put them in their wills. Ginger has no problem with that. Older people have nobody to leave the money to and it is better than the government getting it. "Better us than them," O'Boyle adds.

Deeks thinks the usual plan fell apart because Louis Miller has a grandson and the Double Eagle coin would go to him. O'Boyle and Ginger don’t know what Deeks is talking about. Kensi accuses them of finding out about the coin and tampering with MSgt. Miller's oxygen and hijacked the ambulance. Deeks adds they left the grandson for dead. Ginger doesn't understand. Deeks tells her she's far too pretty and far too smart to play it this dumb. Ginger is flattered. Kensi brings up the charges the two are facing – kidnapping and attempted murder. Deeks add that O'Boyle is up on assault of a police officer charges as well. "It's time to show your hand," Deeks says.

O'Boyle admits that he knew about the coin – he heard Dechamps questioning Louis Miller. MSgt. Miller denied everything but O'Boyle sent in Ginger who showed MSgt. Miller a good time, "if you know what I mean." Nodding their heads, Kensi and Deeks do. The problem with inheriting the coin, however, was selling it. They were working with Marcus, one of the employees at the retirement home who teaches computers – "very smart guy," according to O'Boyle.

Ginger explains they saw a piece on 60 Minutes about the Dark Web and that devolves into a conversation between O'Boyle and Ginger about the Dark Web being in the clouds or a cloud or in the air. Kensi brings things back to the case – asking if Marcus found a buyer on the Dark Web. O'Boyle says Marcus did not and Kensi thinks the con artists were conned. Marcus kidnapped MSgt. Miller to keep all the money from the sales. Ginger admits they're getting too old to be cons.

Malcolm Ariano was seen in MSgt. Miller's room just before he had breathing problems. His cellphone is in a warehouse owned by a South African businessman named Desmond Viser. Viser's legitimate business is import-export but that's a cover for his more illicit activates – collecting rare items. He's paid ISIS for looted antiquities. 15-years ago, Viser lost the last Golden Eagle that was auctioned and now wants the one MSgt. Miller reportedly has. Sam and Dechamps are on their way to the warehouse. Eric and Nell want to contact Callen but they can't find him – his phone is off. Hetty is sure Callen has a good reason to be offline.

Walking away from Smith and two police officers, Callen makes his way back to Garrison. The LAPD narcotics office bought Callen's story and Smith stuck with it – Smith's wire was found by a drug dealer. An undercover NCIS agent was able to make sure Smith was not killed. Garrison asks if Callen was compromised. With NCIS he was not, Callen tells his father, but he crossed a line cleaning up Garrison's mess. Garrison tries to explain that he was trying to keep Alex and her son safe. Callen doesn't like fathering from a distance – "either you're there or you're not." Callen doesn't think the secrets and lies aren't working. "Who are we really protecting?"

Sam and Dechamps pull up to the warehouse just as a group of men – including Viser and Ariano – leaving. Dechamps starts to leave Sam's car, wanting to search the warehouse for MSgt. Miller. Sam slows her down – they're going in as a team.

Inside the warehouse, Dechamps finds MSgt. Miller in a wheelchair with an oxygen tank. Sam makes his way to them but the bad guys open fire. Sam and Dechamps return fire but they are badly outgunned. MSgt. Miller asks Sam if they brought better weapons than their sidearm. Sam has an idea but it will only work if MSgt. Miller can live without his oxygen tank. "I'll live, go ahead."

With Dechamps first in her class in marksmanship, Sam tosses the oxygen tank toward the bad guys. Dechamps shoots the tank, causing a massive explosion. The bad guys are badly hurt but alive.

Kensi and Deeks tell O'Boyle and Ginger that MSgt. Miller is alive and the two seem genuinely relieved. The problem is one of Viser's surviving men was told by Malcom that the two of them have the Golden Eagle. O'Boyle is confused why anyone would say that – it isn't true. None of this matters to Viser, who thinks the two of them have the coin. Kensi is sending security to the retirement home but Ginger says they need to find the bus to a nearby casino. They were playing cards to practice.

In Ops, Eric finds the bus to the casino with two of Viser's SUVs tailing it. The bus is forced onto a closed road. Sam and Dechamps are well behind the bus but there are heavily armed men in the SUV's. Hetty knows someone she can call at the Navy’s Seal Beach Weapons Station – which isn't far from the bus's location.

As the armed men go to the bus, Sam and Dechamps pull up. Hetty tells them help is coming, she just doesn't know when. Dechamps wants to do something. Sam tells Dechamps to put her head down and floors it. Just as the gunmen start firing at Sam, a helicopter lays down fire. Several armored SUVs with cannons arrive. Viser's men have been neutralized. Hetty plans on sending the CO at Seal Beach a nice bottle of scotch.

Sam and Dechamps make their way to the bus just in time to see a badly beaten Viser fall from the bus. Captain Westbrook and the others on the bus took care of him. Sam salutes the men and they return the salute.

Agent Thompson is taking O'Boyle and Ginger into custody. Ginger takes the blame for putting all veterans in danger. O'Boyle thinks they share the blame. Ginger admits she told Ariano to stop looking for a buyer. Ariano thought he was being double-crossed and that's what started all this. MSgt. Miller told her where the coin really is and she is not sharing.

MSgt. Miller is sitting with his grandson. Dechamps is watching the two of them when Sam arrives. Sam is surprised to see her. She explains that MSgt Miller told her where the coin is. It is buried with his son. "You were right, he kept it in the family," Sam tells her. Dechamps isn't going to dig up a Marine's grave. Sam thinks Dechamps just wanted to help save MSgt. Miller.

Nell comes across Eric speaking to Nate in the hallway outside of Ops. The two are suddenly laughing and joking. As Nate leaves, Eric tells Nell he misses Nate and that they don't see Nate enough. Nell knows Eric is lying and why – she knows Nate is helping him. Eric asks if it is weird that he's seeing Nate when Nell and Nate use to date. Nell says she's still seeing Nate but as her psychologist. Nell says they've had a very hard year – Kensi, the mole, the field work. "And your drone strike over Syria. We never talk about that." Eric tells her the doesn't know how. Eric tells Nell she goes through the same stuff the does every day and she's so….and Nell tells him she's not. She's really not. They hug. It is one of the best scenes of the season.

Callen and Garrison appear at Alex's home. She asks why they're visiting. Garrison asks if Alex knows where her name comes from. His name is Nikita Alexander Reznikov. Alex looks surprised. "Your mother. She called me Nicky." Alex has a lot of questions about how her mother died, about her mother and about the two of them. Jake, Alex's son, comes out – dinner is ready. Callen tells Alex they'll come back. Instead, Alex invites them in. She didn't make dinner – she just put it in the oven. Garrison shows Jake one of the coins he once gave refugees. He gave one to Jake's grandmother. Now he is giving one to Jake. Callen has a flashback to the home movies Deeks found. They all go into Alex's house for dinner.

Hetty arrives at the hospital to find Granger's bed empty. She looks stricken. Outside, she finds a nurse who tells her that Granger is "gone." "One minute was here, the next minute he wasn't." Granger, Hetty is told, must have turned off his alarms, pulled out his IV and left. Asking if she's Henrietta, the nurse has a note for Hetty.

"Don't blame the doctors or the nurses but I've had enough of hospitals for one life and I have some unfinished business to take care of. I have no idea what you're going to tell everyone, but I'm sure you'll think of something-- you always do Be safe. O. G."

Hetty folds the note and looks at the empty hospital bed. Holding the note to her heart, she walks to the elevator and smiles.

The episode ends with a lovely photo of Miguel Ferrer. "In loving memory of our friend and colleague, whose strength and kindness will forever inspire us all."

What head canon can be formed from here: Less head canon once again and more kudos for the show for finding a good reason for Nate to help Eric and Nell after his work with Kensi was played for laughs at the start of the episode. Eric had issues in the season premiere about killing people even if it was for the good of the team. They didn't gloss over that.

Also kudos to the show to adding a big light-hearted aspect to this episode. My original fandom, The X-Files, would have these important. life-changing mythology episodes and then have a sewer cats turned feral by a curse in Boston in the next episode. Didn’t work. Here, a simple enough case, some serious moments but lots of humor - all good.

As for head canon - Hetty and Granger are always fascinating. Kensi and Deeks seeing themselves a little in Eddie O’Boyle and Ginger. Callen and his new family. Eric and Nell growing with their new responsibilities and taking all that seriously.

Romanogers Playlist

So this is the result of my boredom. I'm listening to music for at least 50-60% of my day during the week and like 80% on the weekends for work. I love music, it's an important part of my life so naturally I have the habit of listening to it while I write.

This is a compiled list straight from my Spotify account of songs that I often (read: always) associate with Romanogers. There's 105. My normal playlist that I put on though is like 150, but this is OTP centric...though I guess it's still OTP centric regardless, but these are the songs I'll listen to when I need a boost. I've used several to write stories actually. Those I will put one of these babies (*) at the start of. I know for a fact that there's several on this list that other authors have used as well to write with, make posts, or do art for, but I can't find at the moment so I'll add two like so (**) and if I remember the author I'll name them.
