while we're appreciating catholic symbology this fine evening...

someone needs to give the leverage writers room a raise because there's a particular thing they do with saints, like, three times and it's imo emotionally devastating even if you aren't catholic. firstly and obviously, they tell us that saint nicolas..

...is the patron saint of theives.

which, fine, cute, nice thing to anchor a random episode around. but it's not the only time leverage does this, even though the other two are a bit subtler.

if you've watched the dvd commentaries, you'll know that saint bridget...

which they say in the commentaries is very much to symbolise where nate is at this point in the show - very much "not sure yet" about a lot of things, but i think sophie's use of it in the order 23 job also ties the meaning to her in a lot of ways, and it's obviously prescient when you look at both nate and sophie's arcs in the latter half of the season.

now, the last of these three, which did make me tear up a little upon first learning of it, is the fact that saint lawrence...

...the italian/spanish form of which, "san lorenzo", of course appears in a lot of place names in southern europe for obvious reasons...

...is the patron saint of restaraunt owners, cooks, and chefs.

Dove ghoulette/ghouleh

They were summoned on 13th of June, around 5am. Their main tasks are in-abbey mail carrier/messenger and caretaker of ministry's dovecote. Sometimes used as a temporary emergency replacement keyboardists.

They live in Ghoul dens of Ministry of Satan and are a devoted Satanist. Always eager to help with rituals. On daily basis Dove spends most time outside, enjoying cloudgazing and birdwatching. Always carries with them their trusty camera to take pictures. Which often later get displayed on the wall of their chambers. Sometimes in other ghoul hang out areas.

Besides more calm outdoor hobbies they enjoy roller skating. Indoor time is usually spend reading and playing spooky themed board games with other ghouls. Like most ghouls they are really social with their kind. They usually tolerate humans, and even humor Siblings of Sin in their request, even outside of their job. When most ghouls just ignore them.

Dove absolutely loves baked goods, especially ones with seeds, especially pumpkin ones. Roasted pumpkin seeds are their favourite snack. They aren't usually allowed to bake, at least not by themselves because with their clumsy movements they make a mess.

They spend most of their time in abbey's territory, rarely being allowed to exist the bounds. But they don't really mind, they have enough activities to keep them entertained. Unlike other ghouls they're most active at dawn, instead of dusk. So they usually end up bothering other ghouls until they wake up, but sometimes they join sleeping ghouls for a nap. They live rather contently and enjoy the luxuries of mortal realm.

Spotlight Saturday

Good timezone, everyone! Tonight I am being exceptionally brave and I am turning the spotlight on myself. This… does not come naturally to me, like, at all. But I'm going to have to get better at it at some point, so… might as well ease into it, I guess?

My debut novel is trucking along at a truly alarming rate and while there's still a long way to go (it's a marathon, not a sprint; terrible metaphor, I loathe all running), I do have a little baby monthly newsletter which I would love for you to sign up for if you're interested in keeping up to date.

I do ask that you keep fandom chat to fandom platforms (aka, don't name-drop my AO3 pseud or fic titles in the newsletter comments!) as I want to keep paid writing separate from fandom activities -- and, perhaps more importantly, do not want, like, my mum to find me here or anything.
