After the loss to Karasuno, it felt like everything stopped. Shirabu grasped at his chest, his heart paused as he realized that it was the end. Sure, he would have his third year, but he couldn’t stop the feeling of guilt that started pouring over his head until it has completely soaked him to his toes. If he had only listened to Semi. If he hadn’t lost his cool. If he hadn’t-

“Shut up.” She threw a pillow into his face. She walked over with her blue water bottle. “Drink all of it. You’re probably dehydrated from all the crying.”

“Y/n!”

“Just stating the truth Kenjiro.” She sat down next to him, the bed dipping slightly. It was just the two of them in Shirabu’s dormitory since his dormmate had decided to go home for the week because of stress. Although, Y/n had a sneaking suspicion that the roommate left because of the pure anger and irritation that practically radiated off of Shirabu.

Growing up with Shirabu was never an easy task. He was even more of a hot head and got easily pissed off. It reminded Y/n of the wind-up robot Shirabu had sitting on his desk. At first, it would move slowly shifting its feet. But when she wound it up too tight, a spring or two had the tendency to come flying out of the mechanics.

He downed the water when he realized how thirsty he actually was. He tried to avoid staring at Y/n, she was sitting cross legged and bouncing her knees slightly. Even when he was being a jerk, she was there for him. He was grateful that she had come to see the game earlier, but he cringed when he realized that she had seen him lose. Y/n took the water bottle from him, and drank the rest of the water letting out a satisfied ‘ah’ from the crisp taste. She moved from his bed to go through her backpack, pulling out two plastic packages.

They could share things like water bottles, chapstick, spoons, and straws without discomfort. Shirabu had faced slack-jawed teammates when they saw her drink from his water bottle the first time, their jaws dropped further when he asked her to borrow chapstick and he slathered it on his lips with a smirk at his fellow club members.

“Even though I'm just visiting, I would never think of ruining my nighttime routine. So, you're doing a face mask with me.” As soon as she had disappeared into the bathroom, Shirabu smiled. Falling in love with his childhood best friend was the only thing he could have ever expected. Why look at any other girl when Y/n was right there next to him? Being independent from each other but also relying on the silent motivation that came from the other.

While Shirabu had worked harder than anybody to get into Shiratorizawa, the one downfall was the absence of Y/n in his life. How she teased him for his hair, how she did so many little things in order to lighten the atmosphere he sometimes darkened, how she would never get angry back at him and would only ever approach him with a rational retaliation to his illogical outbursts.

“Okay, here let me put your hair up,” As soon as Y/n had started pulling his hair into a ponytail at the top of his head, Shirabu thought he would combust into a million pieces. “Aw, you’re blushing Kenjiro!” When she had finished tying his hair, she put her hands on his cheeks and smushed his face.

“Stop it Y/n.” he tried to remove her hands, but she only resorted to locking them around his neck.

“Ha! You’re trapped.” She smiled widely, admiring how his copper toned hair looked like a fountain at the top of his head.

“Psh, I can do that too.” Shirabu wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her into his chest.

When they realized what kind of position they were in, they both moved their heads to the side, avoiding looking at each other from embarrassment. They kept holding onto each other. Shrirabu is tired of doing this. They tip-toe around each other, flirting and being the only people to actually handle the other.

His grip tightens on her waist, moving her legs on either side of his hips. He wanted to mold his entire body to hers, leave an imprint of his existence on her. He could only get so physically close, and he was never satiated.

“Tell me that you love me.” He whispers, his lips brushing against her ear. His breath dancing across her neck.

“I can’t.” Y/n moves her head so that the pair are looking directly into each other’s eyes. She sniffles slightly. Suddenly the mood that was once perfect for a confession turns sour, and Shirabu wants to insult anything and everything.

“Why not?” He snaps. He knows that she likes him. She knows that he likes her. So why isn’t Y/n saying anything like he hoped she would be?

“You're too emotional right now, and I don’t want to be some sort of rebound for you after volleyball.”

Y/n knew that Shirabu had been in a certain state of mind since the loss to Karasuno. While it would be nice, no, while it might be absolutely amazing for them to start a deeper relationship, the balance of Shirabu was on the line. She didn’t want him to be acting out of anger or the need for comfort. She wants him to act out of love for her. No other emotions blocking the path from ‘a’ to ‘b’. She lets go of his neck. But Shirabu only pulls her tighter into him.

“You won't be. I promise. I love you.” He presses his face into her neck, his lips ghosting over her collarbone.

“I love you.” She isn’t sure how the words come out of her mouth, but they do. Almost as if they had been sitting on her teeth just waiting to jump out.

In a rush, he kisses her. Y/n immediately moves to keep him kissing her by holding onto his neck again.

ANYWAYS LETS GO REONSEMISHIRA SLEEPOVER

- ReonSemiShira definitely have the most chill sleepovers

- Reon and Shirabu aren't really movie people but Semi could watch 17 movies in a row as long as he's with his boyfriends fr.

- Manic SemiSemi hcs coming back to play 🥶

- He can't sleep well during one of his, very frequent at that, episodes so movies keep him distracted from how tired he is, especially action movies

- They cuddle ofc cuz they're soft for each other

- Semi usually sits up, leaning against the headboard. Shirabu will sit between his legs with his back to his chest. Reon usually lays down with his head in Shirabu's lap.

- They like to bask in each others presence really. That is unless one of them has something they really feel like they need to talk about.

- Reon and Semi are roommates (lucky right?) so they pretty much have a sleepover every day

- Shirabu definitely has his own little drawer of clothes that he's left over there

- They NEED to have snack and chips are an absolute MUST. But sometimes Shirabu will bring fruits because it's good for you or whatever 🙄

- If they're snacking on something small enough then they have competitions on who can throw the food up and catch it in their mouths the best

- If they can't find any good snacks then they'll definitely order because they're too lazy to cook anything

- Not saying that they don't check out Shirabu too, cuz they most definitely do 💅

- I mean have you seen Shirabu's face? I could stare at him all day. Plus he's got a phattie 😩

- Shirabu is so. Damn. PAMPERED.

- He's thirsty? Reon's got some water. His back hurts? Semi can pull off a massage.

- When they all collectively decide to lay down, Semi will usually have Shirabu tucked under his chin with one arm stretched out under Reon's neck and the other around Shirabu. Reon usually lays closely behind Shirabu, pretty much spooning him, and occasionally pressing kisses to the back of his neck and head, he uses his top arm to stretch across both of them. Poor (lucky) Shirabu has to lay in the middle of two giants. He usually just lays on whatever side he feels comfortable on. That's usually facing Semi cuz he likes the way Reon will place kisses all around his neck but he'll switch from time to time because he wants to see Reon's pretty face too <3.

- If not that then usually one sleeps in the middle with the other two's head on either side of their chest.

- Semi is VERY persistent on sleeping closest to the door.

Like she is known as the cool and gorgeous girl in year 1 class 7 so like she's really smart, witty, and also a great analysist that sometimes she is like the coach. But also so sleazy. Atsumu adores you. No surprise there, he think it's so extremely hot when you're trash talking him with your sharp words, it just makes him get all the more fueled up.

I think Atsumu would probably have a degradation kink but nvm

It's also funny because the team finds you in places they never expect to! Like Suna's putting away the volleyballs, you're already in the storage closet. Osamu is hiding from Atsumu under the bleachers, and you're already there.

Your permanent expression is a smirk, which of course, unsettles the team because that usually means you have a prank in store for them.

Wasabi in the macaroons? "Electricity going out"? Suna's underwear going missing? Yep, all you.

Kita would've kicked you off the team a long time ago if you hadn't made up for it with your exceptional analytical talent.

Due to your keen eye and above-average observation skills, you always know how to form a good tactic to help your boys win, no matter what.

If there's even the slightest chink in your opponent's defense, you're explaining how to overcome it to the boys, with absolute conviction and brilliance.

Even Aran and Omimi are impressed, because you always seem to be able to see weaknesses in the most unexpected of places.

You definitely act as a coach and point out what needs to be improved with the team, and adjusting training schedules accordingly.

It's like you're a different person when you get serious, and the team know that you're a big contributor to their success.

But despite all of that, you're also a huge sleaze, and although members like Atsumu, Osamu, Suna, and Aran have gotten accustomed to it, Kita has not.

He literally almost fainted, after you pulled your "I'm injured" prank, with a lot of fake blood and some really good acting.

He's also always lecturing you on your grades.

The boys would definitely appreciate you fending off his thirsty™ fangirls, and giving them a piece of your mind when you find them too overbearing.

You do small things like that for the boys extremely often, because you know it's important to have a good relationship with your team, and also because you genuinely love them as much as they love you.

Okay so, you're chosen to become the manager because of your high order thinking skills and exceptional analytical abilities.

The team are impressed by your qualifications, but when they meet you, you are nothing like what they thought you'd be.

You're confident and sleazy, and almost never serious. The team is like "do we have the right person??"

Until they have an upcoming match and you go full on manager-mode, using your skills to the best and helping them unleash their full potential.

You also brief them about their opponents extremely well and accurately, giving a thorough analysis on their weaknesses and strengths, and areas in which the team needs to work on.

Ever since then, you've gained their full respect, even Ushijima and Shirabu.

Ushijima is always lenient with you, because he knows, deep down, you've got a good head on your shoulders, and everyone else is just so surprised xD

Like omg Ushijima is smiling??

He doesn't understand your pranks but will support you nonetheless.

Semi and Shirabu are constantly the victim to your pranks, and eventhough it does tick them off a little bit, they don't make a big deal because they like seeing you happy.

Tendo is just vibing with you all the time, y'all have the same energy.

And the team has complete faith and trust in you because they know you're serious when you need to be, so it's okay to cut you some slack on certain occasions.

Despite falling victim to your pranks, you're also closest with Semi and Shirabu, and you also do things with them outside of volleyball, forming a deep and precious friendship.

Tho in general, the whole team is just extremely glad you're their manager.

You're called "Shiratorizawa's secret weapon" amongst news reporters and sports magazines, because they understand how big a role you play in their successes.

Other teams are always trying to recruit you, but you always turn them down, being loyal to your Eagle boys.

Hello I’m the anon who asked which team you’d be the manager for way back when 👀 *ahem* uh yes I have come with another question for you.

This time however it’s a little silly. If you were stuck on a deserted island which 5 Haikyuu characters (yes characters do not just the boys) would you hope are with you and why is Atsumu not on that list? The Atsumu slander is real 👀🥺 but he’s still my baby 🥴 not to cheat on Suna 🤤 not to sound thirsty 👀

HEYYY how are you? I hope you're doing well! this is another interesting question that I've never really thought about and have since taken into consideration two groups. the "I'm here for a good time, not a long time" group and the "we're surviving this along with the apocalypse" group (ngl it was to hard to pick out a crew for each)

(read more included as I got a bit wordy with this answer)

"here for a good time, not a long time" group: hanamaki, bokuto, hinata, hoshiumi, akagi

"people will see that we're missing and will try to find us, so don't worry! everything will work out!" kind of mindset within this group that leads to our demise. very random group, but I think everyone on here’s a hoot. everyone is having way too much fun shaking coconuts down from the palm trees to really worry about long term survival. the harsh truth comes a week later with the sinking realization in that drinking coconut water and eating its meat isn't enough to sustain oneself. this is when the guys start clashing and fights ensue about roles within the group.

there are some strong personalities within this group which isn't necessarily ideal as it could lead to unresolved arguments... and no middle ground being met definitely means hostility in the group is bound to happen. it is a small group, but if someone decides to leave, then that means it will have a detrimental effect on survival capabilities. we need all hands on deck in order to make it out alive!

I have a feeling that people will go out on their own a lot to "find food" and all that stuff... no one is focused on shelter and warmth until it's too late with the sun already setting... a lot of "I'm built different" attitudes with these guys. it would be exhausting to tell them all the time that they can't take on a wild boar with their bare hands or to stop doing the tarzan yell whenever they go out looking for fire wood...

yeah, we need someone coming in within a week or else we're all screwed... but at least we're having fun during that week!

"we're surviving the apocalypse" group: aone, yachi, shirabu, ushijima, kuroo

you can't have too many strong personalities in a group (as seen above) or else you'll be setting yourself up for failure which is why I picked out people who wouldn't argue amongst themselves too much and are able to easily find common ground (the goal of making it out alive).

you can split this group into two categories: brains (yachi, shirabu, kuroo) and brawns (aone and ushijima). this is perfect as we need people to draft up plans while taking the landscape, the wildlife, shelter, etc. etc. etc. into account and we also need people to act upon those plans. there's balance in this lineup.

anyway, shirabu and ushijima are a pair because shirabu will do everything in his power to make sure ushijima is saved... no doubt, he will be making a replica of brazil's christ the redeemer statue with ushijima's face as a SOS signal for any passing ships and aircraft on the first day. kuroo would make a great leader as he's the most empathetic in the group and understands everyone's wants and needs. meanwhile, yachi will be able to constantly remind everyone about how dire the situation is while drafting up preventable measures no one else thought of for the unforeseeable future. aone, like ushijima, offers much firepower to the group and would be great for heavy lifting.

Sorry for making you wait so long! I’ve been in a rut but I’m now strong enough to convince myself to get out of it! I feel they’re ooc, but I hope you enjoy!! 

(Reader is gender-neutral since I didn’t see one requested) 

You walked with a large crate of water bottles in your hands. Every few steps the crate would vibrate, your hands shaking from the wrist. Ushijima would glance in your direction each time the colors would vibrate but remain silent. 

"You're pretty strong Y/n-chan." Tendou comments while moving his hands above and behind his back. You can hear a small pop as he stretches lazily. 

Ushijima's back to glancing at you despite you holding the water bottles steady. His eyes move from the crate to the bit of skin about to be exposed if your wrists falter once, twice more. Frantically you move to pull the fabric of your jacket back over the skin. In your haste you nearly forget about the water bottles so your leg bounces up to steady them a bit. 

"Are you okay?" Ushijima asks from your side. He's closer now. His arms are almost around you, only a couple inches away as if he was about to grab you. You see Tendou's hand on the edge of the crate. 

"Sorry guys!" Is all you respond with while moving the crate steady in your hands again. Slowly Tendou's hand moves away from the bottom. It only returns to the back of his head when you've taken another step with the crate sturdy in your arms.

You continue walking between them in silence. It's not as comfortable now and it almost feels like there's something they want to say. Or ask. It unnerves you enough to make your skin get hotter in your jacket but you take deep breaths to try and fight off the uncomfortable heat. Once you enter the gym you hear heavy panting and then their sneakers skidding. You wonder how long you were gone filling the bottles but stop thinking about it as the boys practically pounce you. Despite how thirsty they are from practice they're polite while taking the bottles, rushing to say "thanks Y/n!" 

Soon there's only one bottle in your hands. The crate has already been put into the storage closet by Goshiki by Ushijima's orders. After a quick glance you see the only one without a bottle is Shirabu. There's a towel around his neck and he's staring directly at you. Eyes narrowed enough for you to feel that previous uncomfortable heat, he takes the bottle. You wait a moment. He waits in return. After another moment he takes a long sip of water, gulping twice before holding it in his right hand. "Are you okay?"

His question catches you off guard but you quickly nod. It's more instinctive than anything else. That nod wasn't enough to make Shirabu advert his eyes as they're on you even while he drinks. Two more long gulps. Still he's staring. 

"I got to go, I think Semi wanted me to take his bottle." Once you're turned you breathe relaxed until you bump into the male you mentioned. His strong body in your way makes you fall backwards. 

Falling on your bottom with your palms on the gym floor, Reon drops his water bottle to help you up. You take his hand but panic when your sleeves roll up to show multiple scratches just deep enough for them to pop up against your skin tone. It's too late for you to retract your hands as Reon's already helping you back to your feet. That's when he sees them. That's when you struggle to inhale. 

"Are you okay? How'd you get these?" He asked, obviously concerned. You grow annoyed at that question. How many times will you be asked it today? Despite knowing he’s concerned you have to fight back your defensiveness. 

"W-why does it matter?" You try not to yell but your volume increases anyway. "I mean they-they're old!" There's not anything you can say to make this situation less tense. For yourself, anyway. 

The team is staring at you with apparent worry. They don't know what's going through their head. What do they mean old? What happened to their wonderful manager? 

"Did someone hurt you Y/n-san?" Goshiki asked, fear infusing his question. 

For a second you stand there. A deer in headlights. This sudden spotlight is making your throat tighten and skin crawl. If you wanted a limelight you didn't want it focused on your trauma. 

"I'm," Your lips separate to close immediately. What were you? Obviously not okay if you can't muster words. "Recovering." 

The boys aren't sure whether to be relieved or concerned. Happy for you that you've come far enough to recover? Or still incredibly distraught about whatever made you need to recover? 

"We're here for you Y/n," Reon says from next to you. He's smiling with a thumbs up directed at you. 

"Yeah!" Goshiki agrees excitedly. "You're our manager, so you're part of our team!" That comment has more impact than you'd like. For good or for worse, you’re not yet sure. 

Being a team. You thought you and your friends in second year were a team. Then they started pulling you by your hair down the halls and sticking tacks in your gym shoes. Were you really a team? 

"Let us know if you need anyone taken care of." Semi winks and Shirabu rolls his eyes. He then looks to you with the smallest bit of a smile. You can tell he's worried from how he's trying to act so indifferent. 

"I'll talk to our teachers with you." Ushijima purposes seriously. "We won't tolerate violence. Especially violence toward our most important manager."

"Shh," Tendou says while stepping closer to you. "Even if we had another manager," He leans closer to you with a grin. "no one could beat you, Y/n-chan."

You know then, seeing them all hyping you up (and possibly making plans to murder the bullies you never really confirmed you had,) that they did care about you. This won't end up like those two from last year. They won't betray or use you like them. The boys cared about you. As their manager and as their friends. 

“Thanks guys," You say softly. "That's exactly what I needed to get back up today."

Eita rose a brow at your behaviour, taking a sip from his bottle of tea. “So it’s true?”

“Of course not,” you huffed, glancing down at your shoes.

“Liar,” Eita nudged you. “Who is it?”

“I don’t like anyone!”

“Is it Ushiwaka? Tendou. Or Shirabu? For God’s sake, if it’s Gosiki - “

“What snacks should we get?”

“I dunno,” you shrugged, the box of popcorn in your hands shaking slightly. You pulled the fridge open and reached in before taking a bottle of green tea.

“Hurry up, the movie’s gonna start.”

“Coming, coming,” you huffed, passing the bottle to the boy.

“Boo!”

“You’re not scary,” Eita made a face as he tossed you an empty green tea bottle.

“Boo,” you grumbled in a more dejected tone. You placed the bottle down, but tilted your head when you saw a little something on the back of the wrapper of the bottle.

You peeled it open carefully.

“Babe, it’s cold.”

“I know,” Eita muttered, standing up from his place next to you on the couch.

Eita came back, and handed you a cup, the green tea immediately warming your hands.

It’s been five years since you got together. 

“I can’t believe you dragged me out here just to walk through the cherry blossom park...”

You rolled your eyes, squeezing his hand as you walked on the brick path.

Shirabu Kenjirou

-Tells you the strangest stories of what’s going on outside

-”And then he said there was a ghost in the gym, but it was really just a blanket hanging from a chair?”

-”Goshiki now owes the everyone in the entire team a popsicle”

-”Do you want a popsicle?”

-Proceeds to get you a popsicle

-Talks with you a lot

-It kinda distracts him from the fact that you’re at a hospital too

-Once you get discharged, he gets Goshiki to buy you a popsicle kinda just. lets you relax a bit? 

-Helps you with everything, from his first visit to when you’re been discharged
