#1) the other characters not really giving a shit about Charles' racism
Note
If you already got this from someone and you just haven't answered yet pls ignore, but if no one else asked i want to add klinger+charles for the relationship bingo ask meme
ok I’m getting to this late as FUCK but PLEASE nobody ever hesitate to send me something for an ask game if I get one ask on a topic I will go YIPPEE and if I get 20 asks on the same topic I will go YIIIIIPPPPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Anyhow you're indeed the only one around here who shows outside interest in our rarepair insanity, a boon I will remember as long as I live btw. Mx. Smoking Marlene Dietrich I owe you the WORLD
Tumblr media
TRIPLE BINGO because they are EVERYTHING. to me.
It’s funny. This is the one duo where I almost do just want to post the bingo and leave it at that. Part of me wants to tell people about this ship SO bad, to give novel-length explanations and justifications and theses. But the other part of me is like you know what. You either Get It or you don’t.
Anyways there are 10000 things to say about Them but one is: I specifically did not fill in “gay af to have a sworn rival” even though it cost me another bingo because one of the most fascinating things about the interactions between these two is that they actually do not have a mutually adversarial relationship--even though that’s what writers usually do with two characters on diametrically opposite ends of the socioeconomic spectrum.
I’ve been thinking about this a bit because I’ve seen people say things like, “It’s great what a funny duo they turned into when they started out hating each other, haha.” And I get why one would think like this but IMO it’s actually not the case! Charles acts more familiar with Max over time because he does that with everyone--
(Though he’s racist towards Max throughout, of course. Because Charles’ racism never goes away. You know that right. MASH fandom I am putting my hands on your shoulders and asking: You know that, right? I keep seeing people talk about Charles having a character arc and a redemption arc so I’m just. I’m just making sure.)
--but Max has actually been pretty nice to him right from the start, back when Charles’ relationship with basically every character was antagonistic. As soon as s6e13 he tells Charles how similar they are, how they should work together to try and get away from the war, how they’re “soulmates”. Even after Charles insults him, he straight up says, “I’m on your side, Major”, which I’m pretty sure remains one of the nicest things someone canonically says to Charles, ever. Just one scene, but emblematic of a greater whole, of quite a few future scenes where Max gamely engages with Charles even when it puts him in unpleasant situations.
And of course, the motivation the show usually gives, on those occasions when it thinks about Maxwell’s motivations at all, is a simple throwaway “Well Charles is paying him / giving him some other material benefit, so obviously Klinger will be his kicked dog! You all know how Middle Eastern people are! We are a groundbreakingly progressive show btw.”
But man. Fuck that shit. This is far afield of my original point but the thing is, Max’s interactions with Charles are often the most egregious exempla of every way the later seasons fucked over my girl here. It almost seems useless to try to analyze any of Max’s actions after a certain point from a Watsonian perspective, when the Doylist reading of the show being too racist and stupid to do anything coherent with him is the ultimate explanation, and sometimes the only explanation you can even come up with, because shit just makes NO fucking sense in-universe.
But unfortunately I’m a stupid cringe ass fanfic writer/reader, and I love this character, and Max already gets so little screentime compared to the main protagonists, and I don’t want to just ignore him because of the decisions of writers who didn’t care about him.
(That’s the entire reason I started shipping this stupid thing in the first place, btw. I just wanted to read some fanfic where Max is the main character and idk if you’ve noticed but if it weren’t for AO3 user stateofintegrity and their ~problematic cringe ship~, the pickings would be pretty fucking slim.)
So I like to pretend there’s a better reason for Maxwell going from “Major Burns I hate you so fucking much I am going to kill us both with this fucking grenade” to the equivalent of a tumblr blog responding to pathetic anon hate with “are we about to have sex”. After all, if you’re going to write Maxwell yourself, get inside his head and all, then you also have to account for why he tolerates all the OTHER characters’ racism towards him in later seasons, too.
And the messy problematic reasoning I come up with is that Max is at heart the kindest and also most emotionally intelligent character on the show, and even the liberalized version of the 1950s our story is set in is a systemically bigoted universe that is all he’s ever known and experienced, and he’s certain these are good people, really, when it matters. And being emotionally intelligent, and generally intelligent too for that fucking matter, and observant and insightful, he can tell there’s a big difference between Frank and Charles, and perhaps less of a difference, even, between Charles and Hawkeye. Maybe when you watch things from Hawkeye’s POV, the ideological and moral differences between him and Charles are huge, but maybe if you were in Max’s POV instead there wouldn’t be quite as much of a distinction between them. I don’t know! I don’t know. Just some ideas, I don’t know.
Of course getting into fucking. internalized racism and such is pretty uncomfy and exhausting shit. And that’s not even touching all the gender stuff my girl has going on. You start to see why nobody wants to get into this character’s head much. But I do :3 And I do honestly think sometimes the most effective way to do that is to look at the Messiest Ship In All Of MASH (TM). As I’ve talked about before from the Charles angle, I love this ship precisely because of its Problems, because they’re problems that exist anyways for both characters, and having the two of them interact makes the problems impossible to ignore, so they maybe finally get to be dealt with. I mean, I just don’t think the optimal resolution to Charles and Max’s racism-laden interactions is that Charles goes back home to a big opulent house and Max struggles to save up to buy a used car in After M*A*S*H. That is not super satisfying. to me.
This post got derailed to hell but I think what I was trying to say is that Max treats Charles SO much better than that bastard man deserves and I would at least like to see something come of it, for the love of--
#HAPPY NEW YEARS EVE I lost so much sleep to write this and for what. truly for what.#to hopefully not get hashtag canceled for it on the off chance someone reads it I guess ghdsjgkhdsklkhk anyways#I meant to say I actually usually hate when Rich Character and Poor Character are portrayed in a Rivalry Of Equals type scenario cause like#nooooo actually that's not how life works. power differential means something. this is no a fair fight.#Starky loves answering questions#marley-manson#putting my organizational tags early this time cause apparently if you put them too late they don't show up on your own blog tag searches??#I couldn't find my unpopular opinion Charles manifesto ;;;_;;; thankfully I'd linked it before smh#did any of this make ANY sense like just out of curiosity. clap if it made sense.#mash#charmax#idk man I just can't separate the fact#that Charles being racist to Klinger is contemporaneous with#1) the other characters not really giving a shit about Charles' racism#and 2) the other characters also being racist to Klinger themselves#albeit less frequently depending on the season#I've said it before and I'll say it again#everything people hate about this ship should be things they hate about much more than JUST this ship#the concept of shipping these two together just makes you suddenly step back and take notice of all the latent garbage#and that's part of why I like it. because it makes you take notice.#the other part of why I like it is that Max deserves a sugar daddy who will buy him anything he wants forever#also this isn't the direction I ended up going with the post#but my favorite thing about the total imbalance in how they see each other#is that Max makes Charles soooo angry all the time#and Charles barely registers as an annoyance to Max most of the time#it's like when a cat has decided one of your appendages is an enemy to be attacked#and you're just sitting there like haha playtime with my silly kitty :3#K if you're reading this btw you know I don't think your stuff is cringe or problematic#that was for the Outsiders the Uninitiated the Ignorant#you understand how it is. I am giving you 1000000 kisses now also.

My brain is really fixated on this right now (I'm procrastinating) so I present the definitive list of who likes and hates Reagan in Stranger Things:
The Byers Family:
Joyce is far too overwhelmed most of the time to really think about politics. She didn't vote for Reagan in '80 and wouldn't have in '84, if she'd remembered to vote (normally I'd give her shit for forgetting, but her boyfriend died and her son was possessed by an extra-dimensional horror the day before the election)(Lonnie Byers is a dick whoever he voted for. Probably a Reagan Democrat, but I don't care enough about his character to be sure.)
Jonathan Byers is not very engaged in politics, like his mom, and for most of the same reasons. He will come to hate Reagan as he gets older and starts paying more attention to politics
Will Byers like many kids doesn't know a lot about politics. At twelve he feels vaguely positive towards Reagan because he's the president and the president is supposed to be good. By fifteen he is aware of the AIDS epidemic and what the Reagan administration is doing about it (essentially nothing). Season 4 Will loathes Reagan.
The Hendersons: Claudia Henderson is canonically a Democrat, which doesn't mean she hates Reagan, but does make it more likely. My guess is she hates Reagan. Dustin doesn't care much about politics and doesn't develop an interest over the first four seasons, so his opinion is shaped by his mother's; generally negative but he doesn't have enough knowledge to debate it.
The Sinclairs:
We don't know much about Charles and Sue, other than that they seem to love each other and their kids. I'm going to say they hate Reagan if for no other reason than not being blind to the racism in his campaigns (states rights to do what, exactly?)
Lucas at twelve hasn't developed any interest in politics, so like Dustin, goes along with his parents beliefs. By fifteen, though, he's getting more interested in the world at large and hating Reagan in his own right.
Erica actually kind of likes some aspects of trickle down economics (she envisions herself as a rich business woman and doesn't want to pay taxes). And he is right about the Russians being evil. But under his watch those Russians built a secret base in her town and hurt her friends. She thinks Reagan is not competent and someone else would do better. Doesn't like Reagan and I suspect will grow to hate him as she matures.
The Wheelers:
Have a Reagan/Bush sign in their yard in season 2. Sadly, Karen and Ted like Reagan.
Nancy in season 1 is young, idealistic, empathetic, and intelligent. She's just starting to get interested in politics and she does not like Reagan at all (she keeps quiet about it though; her parents would not approve). And the more she learns about the world, the less she likes him.
Mike Wheeler likes Reagan in the first few seasons. Hates him in season 4, due mainly to teenage rebellion and wanting to be like Eddie Munson.
Holly is too young to have a political opinion she didn't get from her family. Her ability to view the world is still too constricted by her parents. I see her as one of those people who became nostalgic for Reagan during the W presidency.
Barb is developing her political awareness along with Nancy. She also hates Reagan.
Jim Hopper: I hate to do this to you all, because I know he's a well liked character, but there is almost no chance that Hopper isn't a Reagan voter. He is a small town police chief who lives largely off the grid. He does not care for the federal government, and Reagan promised to keep that government out of his way. And since the lab has been around since the 60s, he probably doesn't blame the Reagan administration for any of the Upside Down or what El went through.
El/Jane Hopper: probably doesn't know who Reagan is until after season 2. Holds onto a vague approval of Reagan in Hopper's honor through season 4, but is beginning to have doubts.
Steve Harrington: I really want him to hate Reagan. But his parents are definitely Reagan supporters and while I see Steve as a genuinely good person he's also a guy who goes along with things rather than questioning them. So he probably likes Reagan until Robin and her hippie parents teach him better post season 3. (Unless there really was a hot girl who hated Reagan at Hawkins High. Steve may be a guy who has to be told things, but he does listen.)
Tommy H and Carol: They've never given national politics a thought, and won't for many years (post college). Whether or not they end up liking Reagan will depend on what crowds they fall in with at college. I could definitely see Tommy as one of those gay Republicans, though.
Mr. Clarke: Hates Reagan for his devaluing of the American public education system. Would never talk about politics with his students, though.
Murray Baumann: Hates Reagan, but not because he thinks Reagan is an especially bad president or person. Murray just reflexively hates all politicians.
Kali Prasad: hates any and all representatives of the government that kidnapped and tortured her in the name of science, including Reagan.
Bob Newby: probably likes Reagan, but is one of those people who think politics isn't very important.
The Hargrove family:
We know hardly anything about Max's mom, and all we know about her step-dad is that he's abusive and violent. They're middle-class white people so by demographics they probably like Reagan.
Billy doesn't have the mental bandwidth for politics. He experiences mainly anger and fear that has neen sublimated into anger. Hates Reagan the way he hates pretty much everyone else.
Max doesn't have a strong opinion until Mondale picks Ferraro as his running mate. Baby feminist Max wanted a woman vice president, so she started looking for reasons to like Mondale/dislike Reagan. Once she was looking, they were easy to find. Loathes Reagan, and tries to convince El to join her in her loathing.
The Buckleys: They're hippies who didn't stop being hippies when the draft ended. Richard and Melissa despise Reagan and all he stands for. Robin is independent enough that she doesn't need to rebel against her parents' political beliefs when they're clearly the correct ones.
Alexei: Desires nothing more than to be fully corrupted by the capitalist west. Knows Reagan only as a symbol of evil and loves him for it.
Ms. Kelly: Not a Reagan fan, but like Mr. Clarke keeps it to herself.
Mayor Kline: Respects Reagan as a fellow corrupt politician. What's the point of power if you aren't using it for personal gain?
Argyle: Only doesn't hate Reagan because Argyle doesn't do hate. He lived with that man as governor before the rest of the country had to experience him as president. He knows exactly what Reagan is (terrible).
Jason Carver: a Reagan supporter from a family of Reagan supporters.
Chrissy Cunningham: likes him well enough, she supposed. Her parents like Reagan, and they know better than she does. (Had she lived, either she would have married Jason right out of high school and continued making herself small and voting for Republicans or she would have come into herself at college and met new people and formed new opinions . I'm not sure which. )
Munson family: Wayne's a union guy and doesn't like Reagan's anti-labor policies. Eddie is a contrarian who hates authority. Reagan is despised in their home.
Fred Benson: actually dislikes Reagan as an act of teenaged rebellion against his parents. Would probably have reconsidered as an adult if he hadn't died.
Patrick McKinney: old enough to recognize a racist dog whistle when he hears one, even if it comes from the president. Hates Reagan, but isn't going to bring it up around his teammates.
Andy (Jason's sidekick): that kid clearly likes Reagan.

I wonder if Suzaku ever wondered if Charles had not named him knight of seven only to hurt Lelouch (seen how much it hurted Lelouch to heard suzaku make this ask) and if his place was 100% assured. How much it would have been easy to him to lost his title? how much has he been used to do all the dirty work in one year? I even wondered if he realized that his plan (become knight of one and ask Japan) was 99% impossible. And if he has been ashamed of his phone-trap that he did to Lelouch.
Hey! I think about this too!
I feel like we aren’t assuming that Charles was the one holding all the power here and was somehow not 100% enjoying the living horror out of it. I really do think the shit thoroughly delighted in taking Lelouch’s means of rebellion away from him and watching Lelouch fall back into complete obscurity and mundanity (Lelouch despises being powerless, but he also resents the not-knowing; imagine the damage Charles could do once Lelouch reawakens with the memory of what he had done; it’s priceless). I also think Charles loved hanging over Suzaku’s head; I think Charles knew that Suzaku knew--that everything Suzaku did would be grounds for his loyalty and on the same coin, grounds for his betrayal. Turning on him would be so, so easy--that’s the point, that’s the key.
Charles probably plastered Suzaku’s face everywhere he could and sent him to do all kinds of very uncomfortable shit with the best of wishes and a disgusting slimy smile.
(I mean, just take a look at the Akito spin-offs. If you consider them canon, then Charles literally assigned Suzaku Kururugi to guard Julius, or really the once-friend he held down, humiliated and who also shot Euphemia and who kind of also Does Not Remember Anything. How sadistic and how putrid would you have to be? How literally devoid of any compassion and concern and care do you think you’d have to be to think that is a good idea--fucking fantastic, even?
Regardless of the spin-offs, I have no doubt Charles did not gleefully parade Suzaku around like a prize. It was just off-screen.)
Again, Suzaku isn’t stupid. I feel like I have to keep saying that--because he’s lived like this for the better part of his life; he was a soldier before he was any kind of knight. The lowest of soldiers, a Private, with no promotion or agency in sight. And before all and any of that--he is Japanese. He is a Eleven. He can not escape this. He is intimately and inhumanely familiar with the way Britannians (and everybody else, including his own people) treat him.
Like--he knows.
And that just makes it worse, but it makes it able to be anticipated, planned around. Like going through the same opened wound so many times you hardly register it; but you do, you always do, and it’s there, and it’s been bleeding and rusting and festering for so long you hardly recognize yourself without it.
Racism is the least you could call it. This is oppression. Colonizing. Policing. Imperialism. Forgetting and overwriting. This is cultural genocide and cultural dying and being less than human. Suzaku has always wanted to die. You ever wonder why?
Yah--I think Suzaku knew that becoming the Knight of One was about as achievable as any other dream of liberating Japan. Japan is too valuable; it’s the primary site of Sakuradite, the power source for Knightmares and Knightmare armies for Britannia and all their wars and genocide campaigns. But did you really think he’d give up simply because of this? He’s been doing this since he was ten: the giving up without any gains, losing the mile for the inch. Probably not even an inch, in this case. For something as little as a 1% chance.
Yeah, he knows.
That makes it worse. But mostly it makes it able to be anticipated, planned around. He expects to not be given anything, he expects to throw himself entirely to the flame.
He knows he will not make it out intact.
I don’t know how to stress this: Suzaku barely has “power”. He doesn’t even have dignity. Or the right to exist. And he wants to die.
So no--nothing has ever been 100% assured for Suzaku Kururugi. The world would not let him live. This has never not been true, not since he was ten. (Even then, though. His abusive father? Hm.) (Until. Perhaps. Lelouch. But that’s another Thing, however.)
Again: Charles has all the power here. Is that getting redundant, yet?
The thing about Suzaku is his Guilt. His Ginourmous Guilt that Renders Him Uninhabitable to Human Life. There’s so much shame and guilt in him you could probably plug him in and let him power the rest of the Britannian empire for the rest of the millennia, which is, if I’m honest, what his Britannian oppressors want. Suzaku’s lived experience as an oppressed Japanese and an Eleven is undeniable to the way he carries himself throughout the OG anime--he’s so traumatized and he tries so hard, for an ideal that probably won’t even be reachable with his hands. It’s so--so desperate.
His character is so desperate, it’s so fucking sad to see.
If you wait long enough after he commits something terrible, homeboy will almost be guaranteed to feel bad and want to die and do something right. Simultaneously. He’s very---sigh i don’t want to cry--childish, in that sense? Young. However shit his life has been, he always seems to arrive at the conclusion that he has to do something. Has to. Must. It’s his life. He wants to do something with it. Of course, right? Of course Suzaku would.
That’s probably the only thing of his own that he has left: the desire to change the world.

So, I've been reading through the Wtfock tag a few times a day and it seems like very day the people get more and more angry at Kato (as they should), but I can't help but think that this is exactly what the producers want us to think and feel. Because, in Skam we are always meant to hate the "william" character at first because he is cocky and conceited, but, with the exception of Charles from SkFr, we all love the "William" character especially Senne. Kate is meant to make us feel this way. 1
(2) Kato is going to get her hell week too. She is going to say something to make Moyo wake up and realize how toxic she really is, and then she will get her redemption. Moyo got his redemption after calling Robbe and Sander gross. I think Kato will hopefully get hers too. It would be nice to have her use her instagram fame for something useful. I'm trying not to judge too harshly until the season is done.
Sorry, anon, you lost me with the “we all love the William” hahahaha because, my god, do I hate the Williams.
With the exception of Senne and Alexander (which does not mean these two are in any way, shape, or form, close to being perfect, because both of them have a little too much of William in them still). And I don’t mind Edoardo.
The rest is just... a mess I’ll never be able to support. The OG William is a close second place to the William I hate the most.
Back to your messages: We all dislike Kato because she’s racist. Simple as that.
I get when people are uneducated, but this doesn’t seem to be it. And we need to understand not everything can be excused, her behavior so far can’t be excused, she needs to be called out. Not only she’s racist, but she’s a little manipulative and a brat. I was actually very much enjoying this season until she opened her mouth that morning to talk about Moyo and Yasmina called her out, but that wasn’t enough. She kept saying stupid shit. The way she tried to explain herself to Yasmina also seemed to be that she’s more than well aware of what she was implying.
Again, I’m not at all saying Moyo is a good guy, because we’ve seen him enough to know better. His five-second excuse to Robbe wasn’t enough for me, wasn’t enough to make him a “good guy”. He’s cool in Kato’s POV, but he was still an ass in Robbe’s and Zoe’s POV.
If this was the producers’ idea of writing a villain story, they missed their point by a long shot.
At this point, I can’t see myself feeling bad for Kato for whatever hell week is coming her way. I have a feeling she’s still going to be a brat after being called out by Moyo or Yasmina or anyone and she’ll act all disrespectful and dumb all over again, she’ll be all alone and the producers will want us to feel bad for her when she’s just getting what she deserves. The writers didn’t manage to write her well enough for me to feel anything for the girl.
When they got close to getting my full attention, my affection for Kato, they made her a racist.
That’s the problem: I don’t think Kato is going to wake up that easily. And she’s old enough to educate herself. I don’t need Moyo or Yasmina to tell her things. She needs to get her shit together by herself and for herself. She needs to apologizes, to know what she’s apologizing for, and to be better. And to constantly check herself out, her attitudes, her words, her actions. It’s the bare minimum she could do. And we’re running out of time for her to do all of that on-screen, in front of the audience to teach them some things too, seeing how some are struggling to find the racism in this season, somehow.
I don’t think Moyo got his redemption. At least we didn’t see it. With the videos Robbe made of him I assume (ASSUME, that’s very different from KNOWING) they talked more about things, but we didn’t see it or we didn’t hear about it, so this is just a headcanon, the show didn’t give us any more information other than that tiny moment where he apologized. Maybe a photo of Robbe and Moyo on Moyo’s insta, with some long, loving caption would give us even more hints that the apology we saw wasn’t the end of that conversation.
His redemption with Kato was bigger than his redemption with one of his closest friends, WTFock didn’t care enough about one of their most successful characters to make Moyo apologize properly to him so I don’t know what they expected from us to feel about a character we barely know.
I tried not to judge harshly until WTFock left us with a racist main and bad writing. We’re almost halfway through the season and not much has happened, it keeps getting worse and messier and weaker. Something happened behind the scenes, that’s the only way I can wrap my head around the messy, boring, plain plot they’re giving us.
Their instagram post today was a clear indication that they’re actually blind, thinking they’re doing something right with this season.

Sensible madness
read it on the AO3 at https://ift.tt/34NkxPp
by Anna12aot
What if Kate and Bruce were born around the same time? What if the tragedies that made them the heroes they become, also happened around the same time? What if the two of them ended up living together? What if the two of them ended up as huge theater nerds? What if they had some actual healthy coping mechanisms along side their totally not super unhealthy vigilante detective hobby that nearly kills them on a weekly basis? What if everything wasn't a shitty cheap ass drama show written by racist, misogynist, homophobic, all the bad ism's and phobia's and ist's?
(No disrespect to the individuals who try to give us good diverse content. Actually, all the respect because DC as whole is a weak dumb ass bitch and kudos to those people for tolerating that bastard.)
Here is my sad, pathetic attempt to fix the DC universe that I am very much under qualified and under prepared for. Enjoy. (And I'll get to finishing the relationship tags soon, it's just not on the agenda right about now. There is just so many fucking characters. The character tags are technically unfinished because that won't be all of the characters showing up. Do I really hate myself and DC that much?)

hi! i don't know if you've already talked about this but what's your take on how racism is presented and handled in sons of anarchy? i started rewatching the show a few days ago, only finished the first season so far but it hit me how blatant it really is (i was like 16-17 the first time i watched it and not really in touch with social problems, especially american ones since i live in eastern europe). i've noticed way more than before the repeated use of slurs against mexican and (1/? sorry)
“ hi! i don't know if you've already talked about this but what's your take on how racism is presented and handled in sons of anarchy? i started rewatching the show a few days ago, only finished the first season so far but it hit me how blatant it really is (i was like 16-17 the first time i watched it and not really in touch with social problems, especially american ones since i live in eastern europe). i've noticed way more than before the repeated use of slurs against mexican and and black people and how often times the sons relied on stereotypes to get away with their schemes (like clay saying they'll just say it was "the angry black man" who killed opie when he and tig planned on doing that). on the other hand i think it's good (?) that the racism is so in-your-face. like you cannot talk about racist undertones with this show bc it's all so obvious. they consciously made the characters racist, they didn't go pretend they weren't, like just saying "hey! these”
So I never got the next part of your ask but race/racism and Sons of Anarchy has always been uncomfortable for me, in fact if I rewatch the show, I’m always wary about rewatching season 2 because that’s when the white supremacists show up but the thing is, if I’m going to watch a show about white biker gang culture, I cannot be surprised that blatant racism is going to be a part of that world, it makes sense for the characters and lines like “blame it on the angry Black man” “it’s the American way” aren’t inaccurate. It should also be noted that a few Black writers and directors like Misha Green, Paris Barclay, and Charles Murray and a few Latinx writers like Gladys Rodriguez and Marco Ramirez were involved with SOA.
What bothered me were the racist undertones of the show because they do exist in how BIPOC characters are portrayed. I have seasons 1-5 on DVD and Kurt Sutter flat out says, “If you’re Black or brown on my show, you won’t last long” and kind of chuckles at that and I mean, I do understand that as the focus of the show, SAMCRO is going to have to find ways to triumph no matter what -- they triumph over the white supremacists, they triumph over law enforcement -- and really Damon Pope and then August Marks are kind of the most formidable antagonists they come up against, but the Niners and the Mayans, to me, were always portrayed as being more sloppy or lazy or less resourceful, less prepared and more prone to fuckups  and they just take the shit that SOA gives them. Like I understand not being able to kill people because you need to keep business relationships but Piney just shows up at a Niner bar and starts spewing racist bullshit and NO ONE has to pay for that?
Sutter said he wanted to play with Fiona being Black because of the club’s bylaws but we never get any interiority with her or why she would be with a man who is a part of a club that won’t allow Black people to be a part of it. Same with Juice, he lies about being Black and immerses himself in this racist gang in California when he’s from New York for .... what reason? What depths of self-hate must someone have to do this to themselves because when his storyline is explored, it’s just about how much he can’t lose this club who he believes will kill him if they find out his identity and it’s just sloppy.  So those were my issues.

YouTubers are shitty people
First of all, deal with it, accept it, let it sink in so we can fix it like we should have done a long time ago. The more I get to know and learn about that community, the more I am convinced it’s specifically appealing to extraordinarily self absorbed, self important, egocentric, entitled people, and that’s no coincidence. I couldn’t put my finger on it for a long time, because it’s not until you come across a *few* actually decent youtubers that it becomes obvious. Reminds me of older generations and casual homophobia. They never see it as an issue because in their circles, everyone is doing it and it’s very well accepted if not even demanded.  The main reason I chose to call them collectively shitty instead of naming names, even though not *literally* every single one of them is shitty, is because they all (at least the very successful ones) seem to share certain character traits. But before we get into that, let’s discuss yt as a platform first. The best thing about it is also the absolute worst thing about it: ANYONE CAN DO IT. Politicians talk about farming as a low skill job, but that ain’t it, being a youtuber is. If you know how to film a video and have internet access, congratulations! Because that’s literally it. Now of course, some creators will put more time and effort and their additional skills into their work, but even if turning your camera on is all you got, it’s not an obstacle whatsoever. Just look at Tana Mongeau real quick. She sits in front of the camera, tells a whatever story, that could easily fit into THREE sentences, for half an hour, with minimal editing and bam! Hands down one of the laziest ‘content creators’ to this day, but still, in the yt world, she’s the 1%.  Other than Tana Mongeau, the more important problems with ‘anyone can do it’ are the factors determining who becomes the fairest of them all (which is what enabled her rise to fame in the first place). This is where we get political, but let’s get real, spilling the tea about who said what about who is so last year, in 2019 we’re looking at the bigger picture. The bigger picture would be, where we are as a society, which is not a good place at all. The situation is, a handful of people~the famous 1%~are fucking us in the ass for profit and effectively getting away with it.(Not really news) They are able to accomplish that with three main mechanisms: 1. Keeping people busy and stressed. If you have to get up early, work all day for shit pay and worry about paying your bills, debts, feeding yourself, keeping that job...you don’t actually have the time for much else. An average worker doesn’t have hours or days to spend on in-depth researching of socioeconomic trends, they’re mostly just going to rely on quick news they get from the media, which, as we all know, does not paint an accurate picture, to say the least. That middle class persona, who has a decent job, full 8 hours of sleep and some free time, with the rising rates of poverty and homelessness, is becoming a rarer and rarer occurrence.  2. Isolation. There’s this whole individualism thing that we got going on. You know the ‘We are all individuals for ourselves!! If you’re successful, it’s only because of YOU personally and if you’re a failure it’s because you’re stupid and unworthy!! Everyone is competition!! Asking for help is shameful!’ And also, belonging to a group (American, white, black, gay, straight, man, woman, trans...) is a part of our identity, but it’s almost like, identifying with a certain group means picking a side. I mean, don’t get me wrong, it’s great to know where you come from and to find a place where you belong, but individualism has us thinking that the differences between these groups are somehow irreconcilable, when, in reality, we have a lot more in common than not.  3. Providing you with an enemy. We all see this every day. ‘Mexicans are stealing your jobs! Immigrants are the biggest threat to national security! North Korea is our number one enemy!’ You know, usually people with virtually no political or decision making power in the country get to take all the blame. And if you’re an average person, stressed, depressed and isolated, and someone points a finger and says ‘This is the reason your life sucks’ instead of saying ‘Hold up, that’s not true, you’re the reason my life sucks, get that dusty dick out of my ass and let me take a break’ you end up throwing stones at people getting fucked just as hard as you.  (I would also like to point out that a big part of keeping this in place is fucking up the education system and rewriting history in a way that favors the existing situation so one feels less inclined to question it form an early age.) Now let’s get back to youtubers. The reason I wrote this long ass introduction is because youtubers come from the society and are very much a part of it. They don’t fall from the sky straight into our hearts, even though it might feel that way sometimes. In fact they are a product of it, because who thrives and who perishes is decided by the said society. People tend to gather around content that resonates with them, so just like a Trump supporter is very unlikely to endorse AOC, and vice-versa, we support youtubers that align with/represent our own beliefs and values the most. So upon taking into consideration the very shitty values and beliefs that we get shoved down our throats on a daily basis, it is only reasonable to assume they take part in deciding which youtuber we like and want to see succeed. And if we take a closer look at youtube’s it list, we will notice some pretty worrying similarities. First of all it’s rare to find one without a questionable past (and present) that ranges from racism, sexism, misogyny to bullying, lying, scamming...It’s so common that it’s not even that big of a deal anymore, it’s just a thing that happens. Kinda like apology videos. Who doesn’t have at least one these days? It’s hard for me to believe that out of hundreds of thousands of youtubers out there, we somehow accidentally cherry picked, almost exclusively, only the ‘problematic’ ones. And they are all ‘problematic’ in the same way.   Second of all, they are very self important. Also coincidentally.  When you make tons of money and have worldwide fame at a young age, and most of them are young, you start to think that you *must* be special. God must have put his finger on your forehead and made you better than everyone for all of that to happen to you. Sadly, this is encouraged by fans too. Even more so since today being rich is *the shit*  and the ultimate end game, so people will look up to them, admire them, idolize them etc. This leaves a very strong ‘you can’t sit with us’ aftertaste and frequent outbursts of entitlement whether it’s inability to take criticism, coming after regular people, letting fans tear them apart or  refusing to be held accountable for your bs and blaming other people. I think James Charles is an excellent example of an entitled youtuber. Even Gabbie Hanna handles criticism better. And he also categorically refuses to be responsible for any damage he does. Whenever a sister scandal occurs it’s either a) not his fault or b) he was a different person back then and has since done some personal growth so we can’t hold it against him.  Next, we gotta talk about that youtuber ego. We get to experience it any and every time someone asks ‘Why tf are youtubers getting payed insane amounts of money?’ They are a very easily triggered bunch and I can’t count all the times I heard ‘YOUTUBE IS A JOB NO ONE WORKS FOR FREE SO NEITHER DO WE JEALOUSY IS A DISEASE GET WELL SOON’  Here’s the thing though, no one disputes the fact that it’s a job. What is unfathomable to outsiders is, why would someone give a person five figures for saying ‘Buy this shit it’s really cool’ on camera? How is that possibly worth that much? Fact of the matter is, it’s not, but saying ‘By this shit it’s really cool’ to a shit ton of your followers, is. The youtuber ego is what happens when you can’t say ‘We earn money by exploiting the trust our fans put in us’ but you still have to justify your position so you say ‘First of all. We’re super special, original and unique. This is a very hard job, we work our asses of, if it was easy, everyone would do it.’ And then you star believing it. But more importantly, your followers believe it too. At the beginning I pointed out that anyone can to it because it’s a low skill job, so if you wondered why everyone is not doing it, it’s precisely because we’re constantly being told the opposite, and I gotta say, I don’t see anyone questioning it. Even though it’s not even remotely true. Take a look at any group, beauty gurus, entertainers, commentary channels, drama channels, whatever you choose, if you’ve seen five creators in a bunch, you’ve pretty much seen them all, not a whole lot of originality going on there. In fact, this ‘uniqueness’ is nothing more than some basic branding. Drinking coffee is so Emma Chamberlain, conspiracy theories are so Shane Dawson, racism is so Pewdiepie and so on.  Pewdiepie actually brings me to my last point. He illustrates what I want to say so incredibly well. As we all know, he’s been called out, multiple times, for blatant racism, antisemitism, sexism, overall regressive, aggressive, harmful standpoints. And absolutely nothing happened, he’s doing just fine. Why is that? Because, firstly, he never gets called out by his own fans. Like I said, we pick who we support, which means his fans gathered around him because they liked and shared his viewpoints in the first place. Not only did they not call him out, they defended him. How many times is Pewdiepie going to have a sister scandal and get away with it? As many as he wants. He’s never gonna be cancelled because the only people who have the power to do that, love his racism. He’s virtually untouchable. It makes sense why he acts like he’s got God by the balls. And, coincidentally, he is the most followed youtuber in history of youtubers with 80 MILLION SUBSCRIBERS. All the other shitty youtubers ™ stay relevant and slaying for the exact same reason. Their fans like them because they are shitty, it’s a vicious circle. Not ony are shitty youtubers ™ a reflection of how much we need to do better, they are to an extent preventing that from happening. ‘Such, such and such bad behaviour made this person rich and famous, so it must be good, and every time I watch their videos I am surrounded by people who think the same, which in turn, encourages me to glorify it even more.’  The whole reason I wrote this, is because we really, really, need to do better. I have seen people calling them out on things I mention here, but so far I never saw anyone connecting the epidemic of shitty youtubers ™  to our current circumstances as a society, which is definitely there. So instead of wrapping ourselves into the comfortable blanket of ‘as long as a lot of other people are thinking like me, everything is fine’ we should start asking for more from ourselves and others.  Pass it on, spread the good word.

Books I Read in 2019
* = Re-read Check out past years: 2012, 2013 (skipped), 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018. Follow me on Goodreads to get these reviews as they happen. 1) The Right To Be Cold: One Woman's Story of Protecting Her Culture, the Arctic and the Whole Planet by Sheila Watt-Cloutier 2) Nollywood: The Making of a Film Empire by Emily Witt 3) The Consuming Fire by John Scalzi 4) My Year of Rest and Relaxation by Ottessa Moshfegh Reads like a more mature Chuck Palahniuk. 5) Of Dice and Men by ME I won't be a dink and give myself a star rating or glowing review, but I gotta get that credit for my annual reading challenge! I'll also say it's a richly rewarding experience to, after all the work of writing & editing & publishing & promoting, to re-read something you wrote and still feel all the strong, positive feelings it gave as you figured out the first draft. 6) Lagos Noir, edited by Chris Abani 7) The Secret Lives of Colour by Kassia St. Clair 8) The Buddha of Suburbia by Hanif Kureishi A really fun, cleverly written coming-of-age story with just the right period touches to it. I gobbled this thing down in a couple of days, having no problem seeing why Zadie Smith spoke highly of it in her latest book of essays. 9) Moon of the Crusted Snow by Waubgeshig Rice 10) America: The Farewell Tour  by Chris Hedges   TL:DR This book is not toilet paper, but it sure is shit-adjacent. It gave me strong feelings, which you can read on Goodreads. 11) The Anatomical Venus: Wax, God, Death & the Ecstatic by Joanna Ebenstein Great introduction to the subject with fantastic photos & illustrations. My only frustration was the layout, which frequently breaks up the main text mid-sentence for two or even four pages of images with details captions to read or full page quotes, so it takes a bit more effort to read linearly. 12) The King of Elfland's Daughter by Lord Dunsany I found this through the ol' Appendix N reading list and it's not hard to see how this influenced D&D in many ways, but it has value well beyond that novelty. This is a wonderful fantasy tale in the vein of classic fairy tales, a welcome break from the kind of epics we mostly associate with the genre these days. By the final run up to the ending I was really immersed in what I was reading and I know I'll be looking up more of his books. 13) The Worst Is Yet to Come: A Post-Capitalist Survival Guide by Peter Fleming *14) A Canticle For Leibowitz by Walter M. Miller Jr.   The first third remains perfect. The middle third is better than I remember, which is to say very good indeed, despite the feeling of inevitability running through it. The final third remains a pretty obvious punchline stretched out over too many pages, something basically predicted by the ending of the middle story. But! Ah! That first third! 15) The Gods of Pegana by Edward John Moreton Dunsany In theory this was an influence on Lovecraft's Dreamlands cycle books. 16) Era of Ignition: Coming of Age in a Time of Rage and Revolution by Amber Tamblyn 17) Looking for Transwonderland: Travels in Nigeria by Noo Saro-Wiwa 18) 1985 by Anthony Burgess 19) Infinite Detail by Tim Maughan 20) Seasonal Associate by Heike Geissler,  Kevin Vennemann (Afterword), Katy Derbyshire (Translation) 21) Digital Minimalism: Choosing a Focused Life in a Noisy World by Cal Newport 22) How To Write Adventure Modules That Don't Suck Edited by Jobe Bittman 23) The Immortal of World's End by Lin Carter 24) This Is Water: Some Thoughts, Delivered on a Significant Occasion, about Living a Compassionate Life by David Foster Wallace 25) My Sister, the Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite *26) Idoru by Oliver Brackenbury 27) Conan by Robert E. Howard,  L. Sprague de Camp, Lin Carter 28) Heroes in the Wind: From Kull to Conan by Robert E. Howard 29) The Postman by David Brin Yes, this is that “The Postman”, the one which was adapted into a universally reviled Kevin Costner film in the mid-to-late nineties. It is, however, significantly different and far more enjoyable. It is an extremely White Straight Guy book with some curious ideas about gender in the back end, a "Rah rah, America!" through-line, and an obsession with describing horses as "steaming". It is also a well-crafted, clear, concise, quickly-moving story that avoids several obvious turns most authors would have plowed right into, and overall serves as a great exploration of the power of lies & myths. Plus, yeah, it is kind of heartwarming to imagine the concept of snail mail & the people who deliver it serving to re-unite us in the post-apocalypse. Unlike the movie, I'd honestly recommend this. Heck, I'm thinking I'll start exploring the rest of his catalog. 30) Beastie Boys Book by Michael Diamond  & Adam Horowitz If you're a fan, then you'll like this. If not? I dunno man! The whole thing feels like hearing stories from your favourite old high school buddies when they're at their most honest and interesting. Great stuff. 31) Best. Movie. Year. Ever.: How 1999 Blew Up the Big Screen by Brian Raftery 32) Return of the Lazy Dungeon Master by Michael Shea 33) Conan of Cimmeria by Robert E. Howard,  L. Sprague De Camp, and Lin Carter. As tends to be the case, the pure Howard stories are best. Carter and De Camp are mostly interested in arranging Howard's work into a larger, more coherent universe...which is fine, I guess, but it has a way of making Conan feel less a legend striding in and out of fantastic situations, more a man - a strong, interesting man, sure, yet still just a man. *34) The Hunter by Richard Stark *35) Beast by Paul Kingsnorth 36) The Marrow Thieves by Cherie Dimaline 37) It Came from Something Awful: How a Toxic Troll Army Accidentally Memed Donald Trump into Office by Dale Beran 38) Planetes, Vol. 1-4 by Makoto Yukimura 39) The Bookshop on the Corner by Jenny Colgan 40) Reawakening Our Ancestors' Lines: Revitalizing Inuit Traditional Tattooing by Angela Hovak Johnston 41) Split Tooth by Tanya Tagaq 42) Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life by Anne Lamott Part life-as-a-writer therapy, part craft, this leans more toward the latter than Stephen King's ON WRITING and that's plenty fine.  A nice, light read that holds value for writers at all stages of their career, I reckon. 43) Conan The Freebooter by Robert E. Howard, L. Sprague de Camp As tends to be the case with these collections, the pure Howard stories are best. That said, Lin Carter carries himself much better here than in some of the earlier volumes. There are no magical abstractions of good and evil arm-wrestling each other while Conan just stares at them... 44) The Heroes by Joe Abercrombie 45) The Case of Charles Dexter Ward by H.P. Lovecraft Pretty good stuff but, as was pointed out on the excellent Appendix N Podcast, this story would have been really something had it been edited down a bit. RACISM METER: Honestly, pretty okay, which is saying something for Lovecraft! No cats with awful names or race theory or any of that. Just a good wholesome story of madness and history. 46) Difficult Men: Behind the Scenes of a Creative Revolution: From The Sopranos and The Wire to Mad Men and Breaking Bad by Brett Martin 47) Swords and Deviltry by Fritz Leiber 48) The Enchantress of World's End by Lin Carter 49) The Barbarian of World's End by Lin Carter These are not terribly good books....but I keep reading them for the goofy ideas and setting. Averaging 180 pages, they're not a big investment so hey why not? 50) The Giant of World’s End by Lin Carter The first is the best. I think because it was written as a complete story, not the literary equivalent of another episode of a Saturday morning cartoon, as the other World's End books read. As with the rest of the series it is enjoyed more on the merits of the wacky ideas than the quality of prose, including a part near the end who may well have been a source of inspiration for the Emperor of Mankind in the Warhammer 40K universe. Its main drawback is the classic scifi/fantasy failing of providing multiple asides to historical background meant to add depth to the world but which is ultimately meaningless to the reader as it has little if anything to do with the story - nevermind the characters! Heck, it's only 140 pages. It's fun. The ending actually got to me a little. It's a good place to pluck out ideas for tabletop roleplaying, if you're into that. Yup! 51) Wonder Tales: The Book of Wonder and Tales of Wonder by Lord Dunsany 52) Outcast of Redwall by Brian Jacques It's a fun little story, clearly intended for younger audiences, and I've no regrets having bought it second hand. BUT You could have clipped off nearly a hundred pages if the author didn't feel compelled to give you a highly detailed account of every single meal - including many feasts - had by characters big and small. Holy mother of God do you come out of this knowing a lot about the diets of the various woodland creatures, with their meadowberry pies and etc. 53) Björk's Homogenic by Emily MacKay 54) DCC RPG Annual Vol 1 by Steve Bean, Julian Bernick, Daniel Bishop, Jobe Bittman, Tim Callahan, Colin Chapman, Michael Curtis, Edgar Johnson, Brendan LaSalle, Stephen Newton, Terry Olson, and Harley Stroh 55) Conan the Avenger by Robert Howrd & L Sprague De Camp This is one of the better collections. Only the third story is a reconstruction from one of Howard's outlines, the rest are undiluted and glorious. That said, the back two stories are a bit cringey re: race, *especially* the reconstruction I mentioned. I'd say I don't know who looks at a Howard story and thinks "Ah, this needs more complex racial hierarchy nonsense!" but I do and that man's name is L. Sprague De Camp, apparently! The important thing is now I'm all caught up for the next episode of The Appendix N podcast, which I heartily recommend. 56) Medallion Status: True Stories from Secret Rooms by John Hodgman 57) Grand Union: Stories by Zadie Smith 58) The Singing Citadel by Michael Moorcock 59) White Fragility: Why It’s So Hard for White People to Talk About Racism by Robin DiAngelo 60) The Psychopath Test by Jon Ronson *61) Virtual Light by William Gibson 62) The Dragon Masters by Jack Vance *63) Roadside Picnic by Arkady Strugatsky, Boris Strugatsky, Ursula K. Le Guin (Foreword), Olena Bormashenko (Translator) *64) Bill, the Galactic Hero by Harry Harrison A fun little dunk on Heinlein and his ilk. Very slapstick. 65) Gonzo by Hunter S. Thompson *66) McGlue by Ottessa Moshfegh

Anna’s Eleven Questions
1. What’s your absolute favorite scene from any film?
In Legally Blonde, when Elle wins Brooke’s case.  I love this scene because it shows everyone that the so-called underdog no one expected to succeed can do whatever she dreams of doing and with an amazing kind of dignity and integrity (by not exposing Brooke’s liposuction alibi).  Growing up, I wanted to be Elle Woods.  She was made fun of, but she didn’t let it get her down.  When obstacles cropped up, she overcame them.  When someone told her she couldn’t, well, she just fucking went and did.  She inspired me a lot growing up.
2. What’s the most terrible book you’ve ever read?
I guess it’s time to admit that I read Fifty Shades...
I read it so that when people fired the “oh but you haven’t read it” argument at me when I tried to tell them how badly written, badly conceived, and wrong it was I could fire back with “oh, but I have” and dear God.  It was so bad it took me about six months to read, a page at a time, and I wanted to set fire to it the whole time.
I was right, though - it’s badly written, it’s poorly conceived, and all kinds of wrong.  It’s sexual exploitation, manipulation, and abuse, and you’ll never convince me otherwise.  As someone knows how healthy, respectful, loving, mutually consensual BDSM should work, I can now honestly say that Fifty Shades is about as good at portraying BDSM as I would be at portraying a semi truck by sticking paper plates made to look like wheels onto my knees and elbows.
3. Star Trek NoTP, and why?
AOS Spones or McSpirk.  I just do not feel the chemistry between Spock and Bones AT ALL in AOS, though I think this is largely because Zachary Quinto’s Spock just isn’t right.  I’m a TOS Spock girl all the way.
4. The four most badass humans to ever walk the earth? If you’re feeling it, I’d love to hear your justification. ;)
Oh man, I have to pick only 4?!
Alexander Fleming - he invented penicillin, the world’s first antibiotic. Without it and other beta-lactams (and next-gen antibiotics that followed), most of us wouldn’t be here - someone in our family line would likely have died of some terrible infection, ending us long before we even began.  Penicillins have helped save millions, if not billions, of lives over the years.
Lise Meitner - a female nuclear physicist who was instrumental in the discovery and theorization of nuclear fission.  She was only allowed to work as a scientist as long as she kept out of the way of the “real scientists” of her time (men), and was not credited with her part in the discovery until a long time after it was presented and widely accepted.  She was a champion for women in STEM.
Adam Foss - no one’s heard of him, I’m sure, but he’s a prosecutor in the US criminal justice system.  He works with youth, doing his best to reduce or eliminate their sentences so that they have a second chance at a life outside of the system.  His goal is to help foster a more caring, compassionate, and fair CJS, especially where PoC are concerned.  He recognizes the power dynamic of white people in power versus PoC in the system and wants to shift it more in favor of PoC.
Anna Julia Cooper - The fourth Black woman in US history to receive a PhD.  She was an educator, a scholar, an author, a sociologist, and a Black Liberation activist.  She was born into slavery and broke out of the system, going on to become hugely successful and to make a difference in the lives of many members of her community.  She revolutionized the way sociologists viewed Black rights at the time and was instrumental in the forward movement of the Black Liberation party.
5. The fictional character you identify most with, and why?
Hermione Granger.  She was picked on a lot for being bookish and a goody two shoes, even by her own friends sometimes, and that’s my childhood in a nutshell.  She overcame a lot of obstacles and stood up for the things that mattered to her, all of which I aspire to do every day of my life.  She’s also rocking the craziest curls, and I also have that problem, only instead of Sleekeazy’s hair potion, I have a flat iron.
6. If you could hang out with one person for a day, living or dead, who would you pick, and why?
Chris Hadfield.  I met him once, briefly, and in those two minutes he inspired me more than anyone else has ever done to reach for my dreams.  He seemed really down to Earth, and I’d just love to hear of all of his adventures on the ISS first hand over coffee.
7. What character, from any source, do you think gives the best kisses, and why?
Bones.  The man is a sensualist, and he feeds off of his partner’s responses.  He knows how to read a body and he adapts to his partner’s reactions until they reach the perfect equilibrium.
8. Who is your favorite artist (any medium; this can be interpreted broadly), and why?
Leonard Cohen, may he rest in peace.  He was an incredible poet with a golden voice, and growing up on his music and anthologies gave me the deep appreciation of the English language and literature that I have today.  So many of his works resonate with me.  Getting to see him live in concert a few years before his death was the most incredible experience of my life.
9. What’s your favorite theoretical crossover? In other words, what characters, from different fandoms, would you like to see interact, or who would you like to see thrown into a different universe? I hope this question makes sense, guys.
I’d like to see a Star Trek and Torchwood crossover.  I think Bones and Owen would either be BFFs for life, or hate the living shit out of each other.
10. Who is your favorite iconic scientist, and which of their contributions do you find most significant?
I’m a sucker for Charles Darwin, without whose foundation on natural selection and evolution we still might not understand how species change, diverge, evolve, and prosper.  The entirety of biology might not have advanced without his contributions to the discipline.
11. If you could remake any movie, in any way you want, what movie would you pick, and what would you change?
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.  I would make it NOT ALIENS because what kind of X-Files bullshit is this?  Just no.
Bonus, because Anna lives to break rules
If you could make any contribution to any field (cure any illness, make any discovery, invent any technology, write any book or create any art, be remembered for anything), what would it be, and why?
I would perfect oncolytic viral therapy so that cancer was a lot less of a problem and so those affected wouldn’t have to suffer the horrific side effects of chemo or radiation and disfigurement of major surgery for a mere chance at a cure.  It would be effective and targeted with minimal side effects and survival rates would go through the roof.
Jules’ 11 Questions
If you had the power to eliminate any one single form of discrimination (such as racism, sexism, etc), which would it be and why?
If you could live in any one make-believe land or universe, which would it be and why?
If you were an animal, what animal would you be and why?
Which of your teachers (in any level of education) had the greatest impact on you - how and why?
If your closest loved one came down with some awful, painful, incurable illness and you could save them in one of two ways, which of these would you pick and why: 1) you can cure them instantly, but the second you do they forget you ever existed and you must live your lives apart, or 2) you can cure them instantly, but you die in their place and they have to live forever without you.
What is the craziest thing you’ve ever done to impress someone?
How good are you at facing your fears?
What characteristic do you value the most in friends and why?
If you could wake up tomorrow and suddenly be the world’s best at something, what would it be and why?
What’s the worst injury you’ve ever gotten and how?
Name one random fact that you know that people are always surprised to learn when you tell them.
