The scene where Olin tries to dissuade Mike from going into Room 1408 is so good. Both Samuel L. Jackson & John Cusack play well off each other as Olin goes from trying to bribe Mike to outright intimidating him with the room's macabre past. It does a great job in building dread as to what the hell kind of room 1408 is to warrant these mysterious deaths.
so 1408 is in my opinion Stephen King's most horrifying story and in 2007 when I heard it was getting a movie adaptation I was skeptical because like 99 percent of the story's horror is in the protagonist's mental state and how do you portray that onscreen
and the filmmaker's answer was, "You don't, and instead you turn the room into the pettiest, trolliest asshole ever"
It’s official. 1408 is now one of my favorite horror movies.
Fave moments in it include:
-John Cusack looking out a window and the shadow in the window across the street start mimicking him.
-The fact that the clown-looking guy slashing the blade at him is never shown long enough for us to really see his face. The camera cuts so quick that it’s always obscured.
-B U R N M E A L I V E
-Opening the Bible and ALL THE PAGES ARE BLANK BECAUSE THERE IS NO GOD
-Mike doesn’t believe in God but lies that there is one when his dying daughter asks.
-The radio turning on a playing that song when his daughter crumbles to dust because room 1408 is a giant asshole.
-Comparing the room getting cold to the deepest layer of Hell when earlier he referenced the seventh circle. We love biblical allusions!
-Olin getting scared by burnt Mike at the end because you’re culpable too man.
Ok, I was watching the movie "1408" again (because this is one of my favorite horror movies, I actually recommend it) and I just realized how John Cusack could play Snape?? Like, I don't know currently, but at the time he acted in this film he has very similar features to Alan Rickman and he looks a little like the character too and-- I don't know, he just pass me the Snape vibe and I needed to share that! In the film his character is even married to a red-haired woman called Lily, don't call me crazy!
(Just to be clear: I'm not saying that the casting choices for Snape were bad, quite the opposite, I like them all, I just thought he looked like the character and wanted to share)
