3zun data analysis part 2 electric boogaloo

So in my first post on 3zun data analysis I said I manually excluded all non-3zun ships in the 3zun tag to figure out how many of them were actually centered around 3zun.

So that's... actually not how i first went about that. Instead, I decided to, one after the other, include each 2-out-of-3zun ship, and then manually exclude every relationship not contained in 3zun. (leaving te other 2-out-of-3zun ships alone) Then, I'd figure out how many of these fics were exclusively tagged the ship I included, how many included only one of the other 2 ships, and how many included all 3, which would allow me to calculate how many 3zun fics in total had 2-out-of-3zun ships included but no other side pairings, which, upon being added to the otp:true fics, should give me the total number of 3zun fics exclusively focused on 3zun.

"Wow! That seems really inefficient" yes! But it did give me more information for this post. Because with these numbers, I can somewhat crudely estimate what 2-out-of-3zun pairing tends to get more narrative focus within 3zun fics.

Here are the results, data collected on march 18th 2024:

There are 196 3zun fics tagged with xiyao and no non-3zun relationships. Of these, 151 are also tagged nieyao, and 137 are tagged nielan.

Coincidentally, nieyao has the same number, also 196, 151 of wich are also tagged xiyao, but only 117 are tagged nielan.

Then there are 159 3zun fics tagged nielan with no non-3zun pairings, with 137 of them also being tagged xiyao and 117 nieyao. (I hope you've all noticed those numbers matching up!)

by the way, here are the raw stats in just the plain vanilla 3zun tag, no filters, for how many fics are tagged with the different ot2s.

Also, this has nothing to do with anything, but for nielan and xiyao i mostly had to filter out relatively normal side pairings, a few crossovers with mxtx's other works or different danmei, nothing too weird. But the nieyao tag had THIS

Anyway, to the complicated numbers! Selecting for all 3 after excluding everything else gives you 112 fics.

With these numbers you can now calculate some really fun stuff. Taking the fics tagged with both xiyao and nieyao (151) and subtracting the fics tagging all 3 (112) you get the number of 3zun fics that are only tagged as xiyao and nieyao, excluding nielan. In this case: 39

"Couldn't you just exclude nielan on ao3" you have to understand I like doing things the hard way.

Doing this gives:

Fics tagged nieyao and xiyao but not nielan: 39

Fics tagged xiyao and nielan but not nieyao: 25

Fics tagged nieyao and nielan but not xiyao: 5

Generally tagging 2 ot2 pairings in an ot3 signals that either the relationship is a V and the excluded ship are not together, or that- even if they're a triad- the excluded ship doesn't feature in the narrative much. As you can see, xiyao is by far the least likely to be excluded here.

Now doing some more math (or, if you're normal, clicking a few extra times on ao3) will give you the fics exclusively tagged with one ot2 pairing besides 3zun. Generally that means that this relationship is the narrative focus, even if all of 3zun are together.

And these results actually surprised me.

Fics exclusively tagged xiyao: 196 - 112 - 39 - 25 = 20

Fics exclusively tagged nielan: 159 - 112- 25 - 5 = 17

Fics exclusively tagged nieyao: 196 - 112 - 39 - 5 = 40

I checked the answers by actually filtering on ao3 (making all my work redundant) and uh. Yeah. I had expected that, with xiyao being the least likely to be excluded, the most commonly tagged ship in 3zun overall, and simply the most popular ship, they'd be first here too.

And yet, not only does nieyao have more fics, it has more than nielan and xiyao combined. Despite having less fics in total than either of the other 2!

Out of interest, I repeated the experiment without manually excluding all the unrelated ships.

Basically, for each 2-out-of-3zun ship, I only filtered out the two other ships. This data will give us the same insight into narrative focus, just without excluding all other non 3zun rleated side pairings.

This time I just included one ship, and excluded the other 2-out-of-3zun ships. (the hard math comes later)

Doing this gives:

3zun fics only tagged xiyao: 45

3zun fics only tagged nielan: 33

3zun fics only tagged nieyao: 59

It's a less drastic difference, but nieyao still come out on top!!

What this means, I think, is that people with nieyao as their absolute favorite side of the triangle are a lot more likely to write 3zun fics than those for whom the same is true for nielan or xiyao.

That is to say: Someone who likes all 3zun pairings equally is more likely to write 3zun where the pairings all share narrative balance. And if you really really really love xiyao, and think nieyao and nielan are pretty ok but you don't go crazy over them, you're a lot more likely to just write a solo xiyao fic than you are a xiyao-focused 3zun fic. Idem ditto for nielan. But if nieyao is your absolute fave, you wanna put those guys in a throuple anyway.

What I'm saying is I think nieyaoists are the subfandom of triangular desire. Which... *looks at my own mutuals*... is the least surprising thing i've ever said.

Anyway! I didn't stop there! I wanted to see which pairings were more likely to get tagged together again. I also decided to make things even harder for myself!

Instead of filtering one ship at a time and seeing how many of each of the others were tagged alongside it, like i did last time, I only gave myself a few figures to calculate it manually: The overall number of tags each had in the 3zun tag (348, 328, and 284, as pictured above) the afformentioned data about exclusively tagged fics, and the number of fics tagged with all three 2-out-of-3zun ships (175)

Rather than a simple subtraction, I had to... Well i'm just gonna let y'all look at my notes app. I wanna stress that i could have looked all of this up in minutes and in fact did later to check my answers! No time was saved! A lot was wasted!

Fics tagged xiyao and nieyao but not nielan: 73

Fics tagged xiyao and nielan but not nieyao: 55

Once again, similar but slightly less drastic results.

With this I can only come to one conclusion: the fandom likes to joke about 3zun being a love triangle with xichen in the middle. But looking at these numbers? The real center is jiggy. Everything revolves around a-yao, baby!.

On that OFMD Season 3 news...

Welp I was very much not expecting when writing a "Season Three" to my OFMD AU series that I would go one season beyond the TV show. I've had some very mixed feelings about Season 2 of the show (I wouldn't have written 284k words of fanfic otherwise), but some part of my heart, despite having lost a lot of trust in the writers, still wanted to see some genuine poly content in the show. Alas, we won't be getting it.

But if anyone wants a comfort now (just as a lot of us wanted comfort after the finale), I do have a series with a lot of poly rep, asexual characters, disability rep (by a disabled writer), religious/plant symbolism, Captain Oluwande, romantically charged sparring, intimacy arcs, hurt/comfort, complicated female characters, a lot of effort put into character development, and a lot of exploration of Jim, Lucius, Izzy, Archie, Olu, and Pete. Hope it can take some of the sting off of the cancellation!

And it’s on days like this that Isabela’s care free attitude and friendly-flirtyness is infectious. Makes him feel like his old self. And Maker, if he doesn’t appreciate the chance to feel that again.

So when she grabs a fistful of his coat to pull his face down, stands on the tips of her toes and plants a kiss just above his jaw bone that can only be described as filthy (and how she manages to make a cheek kiss feel sensual he’ll never know) he welcomes it, with an appreciative hum and a little squeeze on the soft flesh between her waist and hip.

She gasps, faux scandalised, as she pulls away, eyes gleaming with mischief.

“Anders, engaging in improper healer/patient activities in your own clinic? In front of other patients? In front The Maker? At 9am on a tuesday? What will they say?”

“They’ll say I’ve gone mad. Been seduced by a desire demon disguised as an irresistible pirate goddess. And perhaps they’re right!” He moves his hands to grasp her shoulders, worrying the white material between his fingers and putting on his best damsel in distress act, fuck-me eyes and all. “They’ll drag me away in chains unless you take me with you! Oh, Captain! You will, won’t you?”

He wonders for a second if he’s gone a little far, considering that’s a very real fantasy of his that he just confessed. But she doesn’t need to know that.

But she just tilts her head back explodes into a fit of adorable giggles at his unexpected play-along of absurdity.

“Aww, unfortunately I can’t, sweet thing. No ship, no dice.” She separates from him suddenly, walking around the table she was just sitting on so it’s between them. She grabs the salve she came for and puts it into her pack. Then slowly leans forward with her hands flat on the table, daring him to get an eyeful. He rolls them instead. Cheap trick. But that won’t stop him from thinking about it later. She is Not helping with his sexual frustration.

“I have to go, business, but… thank you.” She drawls, just above a whisper.

“You’re so welcome.” He tries to hide his disappointment behind sarcasm.

“You gonna watch me walk away?”

He looks at the ceiling, pretending to consider for a moment. A very short moment.

“Yes.”

“Good. I’ll add a little extra sway to it, just for you, baby.” She lifts one hand at a time off the table, maintaining eye contact for longer than necessary.

“ ‘Preciate it, sweetheart.” He dares a wink. He’ll feel so skeevy about this later, but he can’t make himself care. He wishes there was a way to nonverbally communicate how much the normalcy of this means to him. Words will come out all wrong, he’ll make it sound too romantic, too sincere, and it’ll scare her off. One of the few anchors of normalcy he has. He can’t lose it. He smiles and hopes it’s enough.

Isabela over-sways her hips so much she trips over her own feet, and it’s his turn to giggle.

I. Kudou Shinichi/Edogawa Conan - Miyano Shiho/Haibara Ai - Detective Boys Trio

The Elementary Squad

I have A LOT OF THOUGHTS ABOUT THEM SO GET READY.

In general, the friendship (friendship is a canon relationship!) these 4 (then eventually 5) little menaces of my heart share, is so very precious. The way these 3 latched onto him, and integrated him into their little group, how Shinichi LITERALLY ACTS LIKE HIMSELF AROUND THEM DESPITE THE KIDS HAVING NO IDEA ABOUT HIS TRUE IDENTITY. HE IS AUTHENTIC AROUND THEM. Also I forgot the number of times the kids called Shinichi out on his BS (like him switching between his adult and child speech patterns when interacting with adults/the police and disappearing acts) and how many times they all get in soooo much trouble because they are lil troublemakers, so curious, never saying no to adventure.

Shinichi is a mentor to them, teaching them about stuff but also their friend. Shinichi is Big Brother material, and the kids know that they can count on him, turn to him in need, and Shinichi cannot help but indulge them, involving them in stuff to an extent, while also trying his damnedest to keep them safe and protect them (even at his own risk and safety, bodily protecting them).

And then you add Ai to the mix, and she gets integrated into their tight-knit little group. Not only Shinichi finally has a connection to the BO with her, but also someone who is in the same situation as himself and someone who needs his protection. (AND SOMEONE WHO TEASES HIM LIKE HE DESERVES IT! AI-SHINICHI BANTER IS SO GOOD! LOVE THEM!) And Ai finds herself not only friends but a family. (Sometimes a family is one middled aged man, 2 fake and 3 real elementary students.)

She encounters unconditional kindness, which melts her cool exterior and as time passes she not only comes to care about these people, but also learns to lower her barriers. And ultimately makes the choice to be with them despite the risks.

You can give me these 5 kids in almost any combination and I would be so happy to see them (and could talk about them for hours without stopping, almost did them in different combinations separately, God, save my soul). Special mention: Mitsuhiko-Shinichi/Conan dynamic gets to me so bad because Mitsuhiko is the most curious of the 3, when it comes to knowledge. He LOVES learning, and applying what he knows (just like a certain someone we know). And Mitsuhiko learns well; he absorbs what Shinichi tells and shows him. (And I love how complex his feelings are about that.) Also the parallel between Heiji and Mitsuhiko, my HEART-

I could go on forever about these children of mine (AYUMI AND MITSUHIKO'S PUPPY CRUSHES ON SHINICHI AND AI RESPECTIVELY, HOW THEY ALL PLAY SOCCER AND HIDE AND SEEK TOGETHER, THEIR LIL ANTICS, HOW THE KIDS LEARN TO THINK FOR THEMSELVES- *GETS SMACKED WITH A PILLOW IN THE FACE*), so have this utterly adorable lil thing to close this section.

II. Vermouth/Chris Vineyard/Sharon Vineyard -Kudou Shinichi/Edogawa Conan (- Mouri Ran)

This is such a delightfully precious and weird dynamic. I don't even know how to describe it, really because 1) there is so little content of this (WHERE IS MY VERMOUTH BACKSTORY/ARC!!! WHERE!!! WHERE IS MORE OF THEM!!! WHERE!!!) relationship in particular and 2) how do you even label something so unusual? Vermouth having such a solid opinion of Shinichi and Ran while the other two are so unsure what is exactly going on. (Shinichi is definitely suspicious of her with GOOD REASOn but also Weirded out I feel while Ran knows even less.) SO BEAUTIFULLY IMBALANCED AND WEIRD.

I guess, in short: Vermouth having a life-altering meeting with these two, only for Shinichi and Ran for it to be The Most Natural Thing?

I JUST LOVE HOW VERMOUTH IS SO FOND OF THESE TWO. (SHE LITERALLY HAS PHOTOS OF THEM!!!) HOW MUCH SHE WANTS THEM TO BE SAFE. SO MUCH SHE EVEN RISKS HER OWN LIFE AND SAFETY.

SO MUCH SHE WOULD SCHEME AND LIE TO KEEP THESE TWO SAFE. (SHE FCKIN!!!! DRAPED HER OWN COAT OVER HIM I'M!!! KDSNVKJSDVNKJSD *SCREAMS AT TOP LUNG CAPACITY* SHE FREAKING MADE AMURO PROMISED NOT TO HARM RAN AND SHINICHI, I'M GOING BONKERS!!!)

III. Hattori Heiji - Tooyama Kazuha - Mouri Ran - Kudou Shinichi/Edogawa Conan

THE OSAKA DUO (AKA FIRECRACKER PAIR) and the Tokyoites (AKA THE BIGGEST HEIZUHA SUPPORTERS OUT THERE)

I'll be honest, at first I planned to include only Kazuha & Heiji in this but then I started looking for scenes in the manga and got obliterated by my love for the 4 of them. (And yes, I know I already did Heiji & Shinichi in the previous ask, I love them, sue me. Also, i wanted to count "Not dating but married nonetheless" for Heizuha BC THEY ARE, but this ended up as a 4 character thing so. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)

To make it short: I FREAKING ADORE THEM.

In more detail: Heiji-Kazuha AND Shinichi-Ran both come in sets, DO NOT SEPARATE THEM. Then you put them all together THEY MAKE A WHOLE SET, A UNIT, A SQUAD.

But also there are different combinations: The Detectives And Cursed Bad Luck Duo, The Superstitious Girl Duo, The Not Dating But Married Couple, THE DATING HUSBAND AND WIFE DUO, THE SEPARATE TRIO COMBOS. *RIPS OF CLOTHES AND ROARS* ALL SO VERY GOOD.

THEY ARE JUST SO PRECIOUS TO ME, and they are just So- *CLENCHES FIST* THE BACK AND FORTH TEASING IN ALL KINDS OF COMBINATIONS, THE RUNNING INSIDE JOKE MOMENTS OF KAZUHA SAYING SHINICHI SOLVES CASES FASTER THAN HEIJI (TO HEIJI'S ETERNAL ANNOYANCE), OR HOW THE GIRLS THINK HEIJI AND SHINICHI/CONAN ARE LIKE BROTHERS-

BUT ALSO BEING A WITNESS TO ALL THE WEIRD CONAN-THINGS, OR HOW THE BOYS BOND OVER THEIR LOVE FOR THEIR GIRLS AND THE GIRLS BONDING OVER THEIR LOVE FOR THEIR BOYS, AND BEING THE BIGGEST SUPPORTERS OF EACH OTHER'S HAPPINESS (CONFESSING FEELINGS TO THEIR BELOVEDS).

MY BI ICON KAZUHA, NOT TO MENTION RAN'S CONFESSION IN KANSAI-BEN I'M FERAL, THESE GIRLS LOVE AND CARE ABOUT EACH OTHER (and the boys too, but more on that later) SO DEEPLY, IT'S ENDEARING.

RAN LITERALLY, ON HER SECOND MEETING WITH KAZUHA, NOT ONLY SEEING SHE IS UPSET, BUT ALSO GOING OUT OF HER WAY TO CHEER HER UP I'M!!! BEST GIRL!!! TRULY AN ANGEL!!! (Ya really are a nice girl, Ran, I CONCUR.)

THEN OF COURSE WE CANNOT NOT MENTION THE OSAKAN DUO. THEY ARE SO COMFORTABLE AROUND EACH OTHER, it's one of my favourite things, so UNABASHED WITH EACH OTHER IN WAY. They are (not dating BUT) MARRIED YOUR HONOUR, they really are like an old married couple.

Honestly, I Just keep THINKING of them all BECAUSE THEY ARE SO DEAR, I'M SCREAMING-

Also, it's so rarely mentioned but (because there is just so little of it in canon WHICH IS A CRIME, GET ON THE CASE BOYS) SHINICHI/CONAN-KAZUHA IS ESPECIALLY PRECIOUS TO ME, they have such great potential. Every time I SEE THEM INTERACT EVEN FOR A SECOND I GO APESHIT, ABSOLUTELY BONKERS. There is just something about Shinichi calling her "Kazuha" and "Kazuha-chan", the possibility of them BONDING OVER THEIR BELOVEDS AND YEARS OF PINING (because both Heiji and Ran can so oblivious it's endearing) but also bonding over HOW STUPID HEIJI IS AT TIMES, but also how much they both care for him and Ran. My dream is to see Kazuha make/get Shinichi a protective charm (let's be honest, hE NEEDS IT, and Heiji's seems to be sorta effective). There is a parallel there (now only if I could find the post for it). Also Shinichi not only being OK with Kazuha picking him up (LETTING HER!!!) BUT ALSO BEING FINE WITH KAZUHA HOLDING HIM!!! (FOR A WHOLE CONVERSATION!!!)

I finished final fantasy vii rebirth and. Some mixed opinions.

The main good points: as a Sequel to original FF7? Its good. The women are all written well (which was a concern considering Kairi and Lunafreya in past games), and everyone was in character just fleshed out more (with 2 slight exceptions). What the game did best was accomplish an open world game, world spanning adventure, stick fairly well to some main highlights from original ff7 (which is what people wanted for ages) and with new stuff thats fun if you like the world, very little wasting of player time (so much better than ff7 remake). It did open world well, pacing well, side quests and mini games well, characters well, combat well, and overall gave the feel of what square enix was maybe Hoping and Wishing to successfully accomplish in a mainline game for years but either hasnt been able to achieve on a technical level or fumbled in the past. (So no time wasting dungeons like ff7 remake, fleshed out open world with stuff you enjoy doing so more than ff15, open world so more than ff13, and combat that feels like things theyve learned and improved on well). How it feels to play? Great, fast paced, no dead time, all enjoyable game you came to play. (With the exception maybe of Cait Siths box mandatory mini game and the aerith in ancient temple magic platforms thing but they both werent too difficult to push through if you dont enjoy them).

The bad? Mostly... if you treat Rebirth as a SEQUEL to original ff7, these arent major issues. They just annoy me as a player of the original ff7 game. Because i know plenty of people will ONLY play ff7 Remake and Rebirth etc, and never know the original characterizations. So 2 characters were slightly unlike their original ff7 selves, and instead more like their Advent Children (and general non ff7 appearances) selves: aerith and sephiroth. Sephiroth's character being NOT like ff7 originals is more irritating personally. Because yeah... i get it. As a sequel to original ff7, this Remake/Rebirth Sephiroth might be from the future (so he is Advent Children esque version of himself), hes had time post losing his way to really get all mysterious and hyperfocus on cloud and be a looming vague pest. But the thing is... in the original ff7 the reason we learn hes used to be a SOLDIER war hero, is so the cast and you are confused why he kills Shinra people. Then you and the casy figure: well cloud remembers sephiroth finding out hes a monster cause of shinra, justifiable for sephiroth to hate shinra. Unflrtunately Sephiroth also decided to hate ALL HUMANS. Then you later find out maybe Jenovas controlling Sephiroth/one with him etc. But the key here is you find out at some point in original ff7 that sephiroths goal is mainly Destroy World because Hes not Human. Rebirth... does not clarify this very important and very BASIC point ever. Maybe it assumes its so basic that as a ff7 fan you should know.. but plenty of new players wont. Rebirth clarifies yes sephiroth may be Jenovas kid... but the whole MOM, im an ancient like Jenova! Oh Jenova isnt an ancient oh well fuck humans anyway! Either way fuck humans ill kill them all! None of those Very basic sephiroth motives are clarified much. I felt Rebirth did good explaining the Gi and the black materia. But to make Sephiroths motives so vague, why he wants to end the world SO VAGUE, why hes in clouds head (the black robes are everywhere but the game HINTS theure sephiroth clones but never actually spells it out eevn though its a BASIC KEY DETAIL). Now... because Rebirth is a sequel, it makes sense... if hes Advent Children Sephiroth he already knows he isnt an ancient, knows hes Jenovas kid, knows he wants to fuck with Cloud specifically now and the world generally but not necessarily so singlemindedly desperate to just kill all humans. So yes, Sephiroth is in character for his future self... but i feel like even with him less SINGLE MINDED and freshly with Jenova, clarifying some basics of his Original old timeline motives... would be helpful to new fans. So it annoyed me. I think the biggest Not Good writing decision in Rebirth was to never fucking clarify Sephiroths original basic goal: im not human like mom, hate humans, kill world. I suspect the writers either thought players KNEW so hinted instead of being on the nose (but to new players theyll just be CONFUSED), or they plan to explain those basic things in game 3. Which seems stupid to me and shouldve been explained earlier.

And Aerith. As a sequel? She remembered the other timeline which explained some moments she was calmer than original ff7. She forgot, then toward the end of Rebirth she seems to have remembered the other timeline again and that she needs to die and X happens etc. So her being calmer based on the plot they wrote for Rebirth? Makes sense. However... i deeply miss her Original FF7 personality where as an Ancient she freaks out a bit LIKE sephiroth, paralleling him, that shes not human, a freak, that it all rests on her as only one ancient left. Their overwhelm parallels each other. Aerith is more scared in original ff7 of being the only ancient, of what it means, of finding out more. That fear is slightly there in Rebirth but WAY LESS. its only a little in cosmo canyon and almost gone in the Ancient Temple. In ff7 expanded universe theyve changed her character over time to a calmer wiser goddess type like in Advent Children, and so yes in Rebirth when she remembers the alrernate timeline it makes sense she'd be calmer like her future self. However... i miss original ff7 aerith. I miss her initial shock, loneliness, fear of the weight on her shoulders, not being sure what to do. Her and Sephiroth, because of Rebirth writing them to know more, act more like their future selves and so. While it is in character and logical to the Rebirth plot. Its also sad to me that anyone who only plays Remake and Rebirth simply wont see what they were like WHEN these revelations were brand new shocks to them, forcing them to react and grow and fear. I dont think Aerith is written bad, i just think because this game is in reality is a Sequel im just personally mourning that it didnt have that as much of the original Aerith's personality who was afraid and discovering. Mostly her Rebirth personality is similar to original ff7s. But in some high tension moments shes way calmer and wiser than in the original. I miss getting to see some of that before to after character growth.

Oh and. The aerith dies scene. Does it make sense in context of Rebirth written as a sequel? Sure. Is it impactful? Not as much as the original. In Rebirth, theres a scene where Cloud is losing control and listening to Sephiroth and attacks Tifa, causing Tifa to fall into mako. That scene is high stakes and emotional and lands WELL. Later in Rebirth, when Aerith actually dies, Cloud has not lost control and isnt the one who killed her. Its fine, as a sequel to ff7 i get the choice to make him able to stop himself from hurting her. But it does make the scene less impactful: now cloud will NOT be blaming himself for her death, will not be struggling with the guilt and fear, and will not be as terrified of losing control again. Since he wasnt the one who attacked her. And since he saw her ghost/something post death, hes not even sad or grieving her. He thinks shes fine. These 2 things will result in a WILDLY DIFFERENT cloud moving forward than the original ff7 one who very much was distraught and horrified he did that. So like... as a sequel its fine these changes were made. But death wise... i wouldve prefered like, cloud drops her from up high qhile struggling with whispers, or doesnt get to her in time and sephiroth stabs her when shes too far away. The way Rebirth did it, cloud was near her, she gets stabbed anyway. It seemed to me almost like the writing was trying to vaguely or softly kill her, like somehow making it vague would make it hurt less. Yeah it did hurt less... but id rather if a character i love dies that its a Worthy Scene for them to die in. A strong meaningful scene that makes me cry, that felt like the loss it is. The Rebirth scene... couldve done its plot as intended and just make Cloud farther away or something and it wouldve been better to me. Maybe the writing point was Cloud thinks its fine, and its still not, and he cant even feel distaught because he cant tell if she died or if things are fine? Thats the only angle i can see where maybe the death scene did what the writers wanted? Anyway. Aeriths moms death made me sob, Aeriths death did not. It is what it is. I feel like Tifa, crying in my heart off screen, the game acting like Cloud like its fine and it looks fine to him but im confused like Tifa aa to why hes (the game) treating it that way. Lol.

Overall? Um 4/5. 8/10? Really solid square enix game, Amazing as far as final fantasy 7 SEQUELS go. It has one main weak spot in treating Sephiroth fully mysterious when a few clarifying details could help the game stand on its own Better (and make Sephiroth a stronger enemy character instead of a vaguer one). The other weak spots are more my personal preference and mourning the parts of ff7 original i miss and had wished were in this, but as this is a Sequel in a parallel timeline i dont feel the parts effect Rebirth on its own merit. It IS the best Square Enix game ive played in ages, at least since Final Fantasy X or XII. I thought it was better than FF13, FF15, definitely better than ff7 remake (i hate time wasting dungeons and bad pacing its a dealbreaker), and than kh3 (although kh3 was quite good for a kh sequel). I get to play FF16 next, which will hopefully be as good as Rebirth or better! Since its also on the PS5 and clearly from Rebirth, the square enix main team can do excellent combat, open world, level design, mini games, side quests, and good pacing now. So i'll just have to see if ff16's story is better. And i am guessing it hopefully will be, since Rebirth as an ff7 sequel has some weirdness to its plot quite typical of ff7 extended universe stories like Crisis Core and Dirge of Cerberus. Whereas ff16 is a brand new plot, so they have nothing preventing them from a tight excellent written story except themselves. I am curious how BIG ff16s world will be though. Because ff7 Rebirths world was MASSIVE and very full of stuff, tons of mini games, cool stuff to find or do or little character side quests. If ff16 also takes me 60 hours to beat the main story its gonna be thw longest final fantasy main title ive ever played.

Rebirth is very replayable if you enjoyed it. I will probably replay ff7 original soon.

a jujutsu kaisen fanfic [SAMPLE /PREVIEW] characters: yuji itadori, nobara kugisaki, megumi fushiguro dynamics: ot3. nobara x megumi, yuji x megumi, yuji x nobara and all that great stuff ok. A retelling of the last couple of episodes of season 1 in Jujutsu Kaisen, after the battle and sister school events.

"I don't think he likes pepperoni." Nobara cautioned as she paid the cashier at the Pizza Parlor. The cashier gave a concerned but delegated look at the both of them before counting each yen with studious skepticism and walked away. Nobara rubbed her temple where her bandage was placed. "Yes, he does." Yuji chimed, taking the pizza and walking out with Nobara. "He just doesn't like when it's the only toppings, 's why I ordered everything" he grinned and Nobara rolled her eyes. "Whatever you say, but if he complains…." "What are you even talking about?" Yuji smiles, he nudges Nobara with a friendly elbow, "he always complains." "Point taken."

The two of them make it back to Jujutsu High in no time. Nobara holding a bag of goodies and essentials that Megumi might want. Some juice, water, soda, candies, chips, dried fruit. She even got wet wipes and digestive pills-which where mostly for Megumi but Yuji would somehow get his grubby hands on them. Yuji pranced around proudly with the extra large pizza as they walked up the steps of the school and down the sunny courtyard to their living quarters.

It felt odd most of the time living in such a quaint yet involved place. Between the bushes and long side fields of grass and trees, Nobara could easily forget this was the same place that was enraptured by a cursed domain not long ago. The thought doesn't resonate when she see's one of the temples-destroyed and torn of its dignity. The two of them move around the broken framework that's found itself in the middle of the walking path. Broken wood and structures laid out in front of them and making their walk a little more tedious then it had to be. They came to one of the structures that were easier to climb then walk around. It was part of the shingled roof top of the old temple. Yuji takes a few leaps and he's already on top of the thing. Nobara puts her wrist through the handle of their bag of goodies and starts climbing. When she gets to the top Yuji offers his hand, and she takes it. Before, Nobara would scoff and refuse. Yuji always did things like that when they were first rewarded difficult missions or when they faced harsh terrain. This definitely did not happen when they had that mission in Ropongi. He called her a bitch in Ropongi. And how could she ever forget that.

Sometimes she wondered if it was some ploy to make her feel feeble or if it was just a way for Yuji to get under her skin. Now, somethings changed and Nobara wants nothing to do with asking her self the very questions she wants to ask Yuji. A small 'why'. A tedious why a nagging and anxiety driven, 'why?' Why does he always reach for her? Why does he always look back.

Yet afterwards, when he up and died on them and somehow resurrected-she didn't deny him anymore. Taking his hand every single time he offered it. Nobara placed her hand in his and felt a warm and sincere squeeze as she was pulled up. They slid down the broken structure together, flakes of wood and dust trailing their way.

When they got to Megumi's room, they were surprised to find him sleeping. Nobara put her finger up to her lips and looked at Yuji. He gave her a very stupid smile before shutting the door behind them.

Nobara placed the bag of goodies on a small table and immediately walked to Megumi's bedside. She placed a hand on his forehead as he slept quietly. He looked tired and exhausted. His breathing was deep and loud but thankfully steady. She grazed her thumb over his forehead, noticing how warm he was. Her thumb came back a little damp.

"Is he still asleep?" Yuji interrupted. Nobara grimaced, "why are you so loud?" She gritted through her teeth. And as if a spell had broken, Megumi opened his eyes and watched with silent exasperation as Yuji and Nobara argue at a level that was hardly admissible as soothing or calming or even just plain nice.

"What the hell are you guys arguing over?"

It took a whole minute for them to even notice he was awake. Yuji's face lit up. His big doey eyes meeting Megumi's with a softness Megumi hated. It made his chest hurt. And shit, he already hurt all over.

"We bought you pizza!" "I bought you pizza" Nobara corrected. "It has all your favorite toppings!" Yuji placed the box in Megumi's lap which Megumi looked up at Yuji as if he just laid a dead rat on his bed.

The heavy sweaty doughy scent of pizza filled the room now, cheese, vegetables, pepperoni and spicy sausage. Megumi opened the box immediately. He'd reprimand them later about throwing a greasy box of pizza on his bed. They did good. But he wasn't sure his stomach would be up for the challenge just yet. Honestly, they could of brought him a bowl of thick stale oatmeal and he'd be grateful. As Megumi pulled out his slice and chewed on it methodically, he watched Nobara and Yuji fizz out of their yelling match and stuff their faces into their food.

Megumi could appreciate the silence between eating and the vague jabs Nobara and Yuji gave each other. Yuji dropped a mushroom on his hoodie and Nobara snorted, "you're always so messy." And threw a napkin at him, but only rolled her eyes when Yuji made a show of picking up the mushroom and dropping it into his mouth.

"I'm surprised you two showed up." Megumi quietly interjected. "Shouldn't you two be resting as well?"

Nobara sighed getting another slice of pizza, "nah, I hadn't seen much action before that veil got pulled down. Just met some creepy curse user. He looked like he probably sticks up pencils up small animals asses."

"Kugisaki, I am eating for crying out loud." Yuji glared

"What? Not like I became best friends with a misogynistic meat head and got to fight a tough as fuck cursed spirit." There was a bite to her small smile,

Yuji pouted a bit, "you don't have to put it like that. I mean Todo did help me learn a few things about cursed energy and all." He grinned, "got to use a black flash couple times too."

Megumi looked up from a string of cheese he was planning to devour slowly and slurp up like a noodle. "Really?" He looked at Yuji, "Todo taught you that?"

"Mmm more like he guided me. But he was also pretty freakin' raw about it too. Guess he's a throw em into the fire and let em learn type a guy."

Megumi chewed on his pizza, letting Nobara grill Yuji on becoming friends with a guy like Todo. Yugi humbly opted out of ever doing such a thing-because well he's a live in the moment type of guy. Things come over him and he's compelled to do just about the most ridiculous things. No friends were maid, just lessons learned, his smile spreading across his face.

But Megumi couldn't be bothered to really keep up with their chit chat. He was more intrigued about the speed and depth in which Yuji Itadori was getting stronger. Not even a year had passed and Yuji was landing black flashes on cursed spirits, rising up from the dead-which Megumi still feels sore even thinking about. But he always knew this, Itadori was strong from the day he met him. Probably far before he swallowed Sukuna's finger and delved into this messy bloody world of theirs.

But, he couldn't help but sink in his bed just a little.

"Anyway, I'm just glad your injuries weren't very serious Fushigiro." Yuji smiles. Yuji raises his pizza and toasts, "to your health and to this pizza!"

Megumi blinks, "you could've brought me something easier to digest."

"No complaining." Nobara grumbled. And Yuji bursts into laughter.

Nobara finishes her pizza and gets up to wash her hands, by the time that she's back, she hears the end tail of whatever declaration Megumi wanted to get off his chest.

"You know you've grown a lot stronger Itadori. Before we stood by our convictions, and I know that's true."

Nobara looks between Yuji and Megumi leaning her chin into her palm as she listens, hoping somewhere Megumi calls Itadori the idiot that he is.

Except, Nobara shouldn't be all too surprised when Megumi is analyzing all that's happened into just a few sentences. Be it so, that Megumi isn't all that great with relaying things that are on his mind in a timely fashion. It's a lot better than what it used to be. And in those weeks they thought Itadori was dead, Nobara thought the guy was going mute--more than she had already thought before. Yet, Nobara knew there was always so much more to him. And even in knowing that, she wasn't always sure what he wanted to bring up to the surface.

Some nights he'd show up to her room. And she'd hope he would say something, anything. But he never did. So neither did she.

She could sum it up to Megumi trying to recalibrate what he brings into the team, and she isn't wrong once Megumi looks deep into Yuji's eyes and says, "so I've decided. I'll surpass you."

Yuji laughs again. And Nobara glares at them.

"Did I get left out this conversation again, or something? What the fuck are you saying?"

The boys look at Nobara, question marks dancing in their gaze. Megumi and Yuji have been used to Nobara's outburst but her voice goes grim and as solid as a straight line and that always gets their attention.

Megumi makes the mistake of opening his mouth, "I only meant--" "What, that I'm weak compared to the both of you?"

Itadori frowns, "whoa, where did you get that?"

"I know I have to spell everything out for you Itadori. But this cannot be one of those times."

Megumi's stomach tightens, "You know that is not what I meant Nobara." Her eyes narrow. The tension in the room shifts completely and Yuji makes it known he doesn't like it, "okay okay….we're all strong in our own ways."

It isn't enough to ebb the growing burn blooming in Nobara's chest. She scuffs, gets up from the edge of Megumi's bed and stretches.

"Whatever, I'm getting sleepy." She plumets the growing pang in her chest into a slow yawn. "I'll see you tomorrow for the last sister school event."

Yuji and Megumi watch in steeped silence as she walks out of the room. Their eyes tracing over her resigned body, she doesn't even slam Megumi's door on her way out.

"Is….she angry or something?" Yuji asks with confusion coloring his voice. Megumi feels his ears grow warm and his throat ache. He lets it all release in a souring groan. He lays back and throws his arm over his eyes in defeat.

Yuji eyes wide and innocent shrugs his shoulders, he picks up Megumi's pizza crust and chews on it depleted. "I'll take that as a yes."
