"Foolish mortal. Know your place. You're hardly worthy of saying my name, let alone actually being with me."

"XIAO!"

You bolted upright in your bed, tears starting to flow down your cheeks. You covered your face with your hands as shaking sobs escaped your body, absolutely terrified of the nightmare you had just experienced. Although it was merely a dream, it felt like a sign of so much more.

"Xiao... don't leave me here," you whispered amongst your sobs, feeling his presence around you only moments after you had uttered his name.

"Why are you crying." It was more of a statement than a question, Xiao's confusion to human emotions nothing new. 

"It's..." you hesitated to tell him the real reason, worried about what he would say. "Just.. nightmares."

"About what."

"You... leaving me."

He stood there in shock for a moment, trying to process what you had just said. A dream so vile had dared cross your mind? Xiao would never think about leaving you, he loved you far too much for that to happen. He stood there awkwardly, unsure of what to do as your sobs returned to shake your body. Xiao reached out a hand and patted your head. "There.. shush your crying now. You're okay."

"I just..." another sob escaped your throat. "I can't.. even thinking about it.."

He recalled reading about couples comforting each other, and sat next to you on the bed, pulling your figure into him to lay on his lap as he calmly stroked your cheek and wiped away your tears. He prayed to the archons that this was the right thing to do, voice uncharacteristically soft as he reassured you. "It's okay to cry."

Your tears gradually stopped falling, and Xiao reached for your hand and pressed a gentle kiss to your wrist, touches feeling as light as the air he wielded. "Nobody can hurt you. Not with me here."

FAQ

What fresh hell is this?

This is an attempt at a fandom event. In Greywaren's epilogue, we learn Ronan is wandering around working on ley lines and Adam works for "an organization with a dot gov email," and that they often work together across the United States. I thought it'd be fun to follow them on that post-canon journey and write a fic set in each of the 50 states (plus DC).

Is there a deadline?

Nope! I want this to be as low-key and low-stress as possible for everyone involved and there's no hard deadline for posting fics. Life happens. Stuff gets in the way of writing. All I ask is that if you claim a state, you make your best effort to post the fic for it, and if it ends up you're not in a place to write it, just contact me.

Is there a word count requirement?

Again, nope! Write a microfic, write a drabble, write 100k. Write however much or as little as you want.

What can I write?

Literally anything. Fluff, smut, hurt/comfort, whatever you feel like. Go crazy. And if you feel like an AU, I'm not gonna stop you. You don't even need to know anything about a state. Pop them in a hotel room and say it's in Montana for all I care. What if you can't contain yourself and want to write fics for the entire West coast? Go ahead and write fics for Washington, Oregon, and California. I won't stop you. And if one fic for Maine doesn't satisfy you, write more! Multiple fics per state are welcome.

How do I sign up?

There's a prompt challenge here on AO3 with all 50 states and Washington, DC. If you want to write a fic for a state, hit the "Claim" button for that state. Please note, I have never created a prompt challenge before and I'm still trying to figure out how this thing works. If you run into issues, just contact me. We'll figure this thing out together!

Ultimately, I just want everyone to have fun. That's what fandom is all about. So let's write and read some great fics!

this was adorable to write! sorry this took so long!

reader is trans ftm! mentions of dysphoria and a panic attack. i opted to have the reader use a binder with neither top or bottom surgery yet, and not yet starting hormones, like my experience. i understand this is not every trans person's experience! i just wanted to be able to connect with it better. there are mentions of overbinding!

descriptors of reader for things like race, height, etc. are not mentioned!

quick PSA: PLEASE bind safely. never bind with a binder that doesn't fit or with things like ace bandages. avoid binding for over 8 hours at a time, and don't bind while doing things like intense physical activity. if your binder is hurting you, take it off. stay safe!

It was already late, and you couldn't sleep, the moonlight filtering in through the crack in the curtains casting an ethereal glow on your  partner who seemed to be asleep. You thought he'd fallen asleep earlier. And now you felt yourself on the verge of a panic attack. The dysphoria was getting worse, and you found yourself binding almost all the time.

Your heartbeat was quickening, breaths becoming shallow as your eyes filled with tears, face buried in a pillow as to not wake Dazai up, unaware that he was already awake.

"Darling?" His voice broke the silence, him shifting around to face you, seeing the state you were in. You looked up, tears staining your face, lip almost bleeding from how much you were biting on it to keep from sobbing loudly. "Don't feel bad. It's okay. I couldn't sleep anyway."

Dazai opened his arms, welcoming you into them, and you gladly let yourself be wrapped up in his embrace as he rubbed circles into your back, gently shushing you and kissing the top of your head. "As cute as you are in my arms, these aren't the best conditions... how can we cheer you up?" He wondered out loud, a light flirty tone in his voice. 

Your sobbing was starting to subside, fading into just sniffles. Dazai kissed your forehead and smiled. "There we go. That's better. Now, can you tell me what's wrong?"

"Just.. dysphoria."

"Oh, sweetheart, it's okay. You know that you're the most perfect man, right? It doesn't matter how you were born. It's how you feel. And you're my handsome, smart, amazing boyfriend." His tone was genuine, leaving his "playboy" persona behind for the moment.

Bearhugsandshrugs Update – April '24: Discord, beta reader match ups, WIPs, book writing!

Hey all, it's been a while since I shared an update!

TL;DR: Updates on fics, community things, and my life!

Last time I told you about the book proposal I wrote for my agent, and I managed to complete that and submit it! Even better news was that she liked it. So I will refine parts of the story I wrote to incorporate her feedback, and then in a month or so it'll go out to publishing houses in the hopes that someone buys it! Keep your fingers crossed for me so your girl gets published :)

Admin: Discord Server, Community, Pinned Post

In case you missed it: I launched a discord server where we hangout to talk about Gort and writing. Last week we finished the first writing buddy match up, where I paired six writers with a buddy so they can beta each other's fics. It made me super happy that the community came together in that way!

There will also be a super cool event coming soon that @littleplasticrat came up with, I'll share more on that next week when I have more headspace to give this the hype post it deserves. Just teasing a bit: it does involve Gorty and fashion :3

I also published a new lore & theory masterlist for BG3 and I'm working on compiling the drabbles and headcanon lists, too.

WIPs

In March I already told you that I was moving all WIPs to May, maybe even June. Since I'll be traveling in May, I might or might not have time to work on the WIPs.

Worthy Chapter 3: Structure is drafted. ETA hopefully in May

Folie Chapter 7: I scrapped the entire structure. While I'm motivated to write Raph and Haarlep again, I'm not particularly fond of my original idea so I have to redo the last chapter, ETA probably June

Durgetash series (concept linked) and Raphael series (concept linked): on hold for now. Neither of them grabbed my attention long enough for me to do more with it.

There's one fic/art trade I'm going to write for @tatterings and it's likely either going to be Astarion or monster fucking. So keep an eye out for that.

Series

Both MAD and Gorsimp are continuing! I'm sketching out Act 3 for MAD which we're about to enter. Due to life stuff I changed to posting schedule to every two weeks for MAD, while Gorsimp continues to update 1-2x a week (mostly thanks to @bloodlessbhaalbabe's incredible discipline on keeping us on a schedule).

And in more MAD news, I made a playlist for that fic! Give it a listen if you want to cry.

Other stuff

I'm slowly coming back online after a few really bad months of physical and emotional health turmoil. I'm okay for now and I've been taking care of myself, creating some distance from the fandom to protect my peace of mind, and I'll probably continue to take it slow for a while.

Last time I said I'd do another giveaway when I hit 1k followers. Since I've barely been on I haven't made much progress – it's about 50 followers or so away, but this blog isn't really growing right now. Guess I'm getting a much needed break from taking on too many WIPs :D anyway, I just wanted to say it's still on my mind, but I don't particularly feel the need to promote it because it'll happen when it happens.

Day 2: Running out of time

Drabbles for @medwhumpmay! CW: talk of death, depression.

It’s okay, Al thinks, if this is how it ends. He’s thirty years old - that’s twice the life expectancy he had back when he was a little kid. Growing up, every birthday was a big celebration with a deep undertone of sadness, but his parents had hid it well. So well that Al didn’t even think about it until he was older. Then he was fifteen and he was so very sick, but against all odds made it to sixteen. And seventeen. His health improved, he met Ollie, he got married and windowed all before the age of twenty-five. His whole life has been a series of unlikely events, so maybe this is where his luck runs out.

The doctors say he has about a 50% chance of getting new lungs. They also say he has about a 50% chance of living to see next year if he doesn’t. Al’s never been good at statistics, but he knows either odds aren’t amazing.

It took him a long time to decide to get on the transplant list at all. Maybe if he’d decided sooner, his chances would have been better. But after Ollie died, Al wasn’t sure what the point of living any longer than he had to was. In his darkest moments, it felt like fate that both he and Ollie would live short lives. Most of all, he felt like he didn’t deserve lungs that someone else had to die for, not when another patient who had a life worth living for could get them.

Then he met Theo.

It’s not that Al lives only for Theo. He has other things that are important to him that he wants to hold on to. His parents, his memory of Ollie, his art; the feeling of warm sun on his skin and the sound of waves on the beach. But when he met Theo, those other things had ceased to matter to him. Theo brought him back to life, reminded him what life was about. Al’s fought hard for this life, and he decided he wanted to keep fighting when Theo helped him climb out of the pit of despair he’d been stuck in after Ollie died. He’s giving it his best shot. But he’s also running out of time.

Theo doesn’t like to talk about it, but death is something that’s followed Al for his whole life. So he tells Theo that even if he doesn’t get new lungs, that it was still a life worth living. He’s not surprised that Theo doesn’t want to hear it, but he had to say it anyway. Everything else, he writes down in his journal, half his own thoughts and half letters to Theo. Al wants Theo to read it, if he dies. That’s his way of saying the rest.

my favorite piece from them is their beomgyu smau (bcs im a struggling bamtori that eats up anything beomgyu) my beloved GHOSTING. its on hold but its soooooo fucking good, like slow burn at its core and i LOVE it. its not romantic yet but i swear its sooo worth it, the topics it tackles and the character development and the effectiveness of the flashbacks and how real each character feels ...this is the IT smau!!!!

i held off on reading for soooo long even when i found each and every summary of her fics sooooooo interesting but then one day i had free time and decided i should finally tackle my reading list and !!!!

i soooo recommend each and every fic, like its all SO good??? FOR WHAT??? so easy to read but her vocab isn't limited, and i just love that balance so much. everything is good. i recommend EVERYTHING.

but if i had to choose ONE, just ONE thing to recommend, it would be love again because i am a whore for best friends to lovers and this was the most perfect beomgyu b2l ever.
