The Best Ways to Store and Preserve Cannabis in Glass Jars
Tumblr media
Maintaining the freshness of cannabis products is the best way to enjoy their full benefits. They maintain their qualities and provide you with the smoothest and most flavorful smoking experience when stored properly. Glass jars are among the best containers for cannabis.
Cannabis can have a shelf life of up to 18 months when it is kept fresh and humidity-free. It is essential that you know which glass cannabis jar is best for you. In similar jars, each strain has a varied weight and container capacity. Think about these things before choosing a glass jar to store your weed.
Cannabis jars:
The purpose of weed jars is to protect marijuana from light, air, and vapour. These are the primary outside variables that degrade the quality of your cannabis. The straight-sided Sided Clear Glass Jars are the most widely used cannabis jars. They are clear, so you can easily view the content inside and monitor its freshness, which is why many people prefer them.
Extra protection for your cannabis is provided by a glass jar with a cap. To keep your cannabis airtight, the cap provides an additional layer of protection. It has the smell of marijuana inside and keeps it fresh. Glass jars with wooden lids and clear glass concentrate jars with black or white caps are two types of cannabis jars with lids.
The perfect cannabis jar to select for your flowers:
It’s essential to select the correct glass cannabis jar for your flowers. The quantity and time you wish to store are the most crucial factors to take into account when selecting glass jars. The small jar, also known as X-small, could be perfect for you if you occasionally use just a tiny bit of cannabis.
The medium or large jar may be perfect for you if you use it roughly ½ every few weeks. The Large Wide Mouth, XL UV, or Latch Top jars are the best options if you wish to store bigger amounts of cannabis. If you use them frequently, the glass apothecary jars or gallon jars will be perfect for you.
Finding the perfect cannabis jar according to its size:
One thing to keep in mind when storing cannabis is how much airspace the glass jar has. After each use, you will release more air space inside. The best way to keep your cannabis airtight is to select glass jars in multiple sizes. Glass jars can help to maintain the proper moisture balance that keeps cannabis fresh for an extended period of time if you wish to store it for longer.
You can choose from a wider range of customizable options to suit your own preferences. The most common cannabis jar sizes are:
2 oz. jars for marijuana: Perfect for preserving concentrated and weed flowers. In cannabis stores, they are well-liked.
3 oz. Cannabis Jars: Popular for displaying different cannabis strains in dispensaries.
These jars can hold 3 to 4 g of weed, making them perfect for creating a beautiful display in dispensaries
4 oz. Jars For Weed: Great for storing 1/8 to ¼ of cannabis and 5 to 6 g of weed.
6 oz. Marijuana Jars: Best for displaying are dispensary shelves and showrooms. They’re specious holding 6 to 7 g of weed
10 oz Glass Flint Jar:  Tall CR Jar with Black Matte CR Lids
Tumblr media
Choosing glass jars according to storage conditions:
It’s possible that the location where you’re keeping your marijuana is public. Either hide your products or make them visible to all will be your choice. Amber or UV Screw Top Jars are great options if you want to blend in. Choose the Pop Top OR Wide Mouth Jar if you don’t mind people seeing your products.
Selecting glass jar cannabis based on design:
Once you’ve determined your perfect size and storage conditions, you can select your preferred design from a list of 24 options. You can choose between customizable jars for branding, different colours, and transparent glass jars.
Keeping cannabis fresh with quality glass jar storage:
Maintaining the flavour, potency, and quality of your cannabis products depends on proper storage. Glass jars have become the preferred storage option for both individual consumers and dispensaries.
Selecting a perfect glass jar in terms of size, style, and kind will help you keep your cannabis fresh for up to 18 months. When choosing your perfect jar, don’t forget to take into account elements like the quantity of cannabis you’re storing, ideal humidity levels, and storage conditions.
You can consistently enjoy a better experience and maintain the integrity of your cannabis with the right glass container and storage methods. Whether you operate a dispensary or just a casual user, investing in high-quality glass jars is a small but important way to increase the effects and longevity of your cannabis products.
Have questions about which jar is best for you? Innovative Sourcing is here for you. We are always available to assist you in finding the perfect packaging solution for your cannabis needs.

Load the pretzels into the center of the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, rotating half way through baking to promote even browning. Pinch the seam closed and seal the ends, then allow the cylinders to rest, covered, for 5 minutes.īake the pretzels. Press each piece into a little rectangle and then roll it up into a cylinder, starting from a long end. Work with one piece of dough at a time and keep the rest covered. With a sharp knife, cut the dough into eight pieces about 3.1 oz / 90 g each. The peak of the dough will just reach 9 cups (a little over 2 liters) in about 90 minutes.ĭivide and pre-shape the dough. When the dough has risen, turn it out onto a sparsely floured work surface and de-gas by pressing it into a rectangle. Transfer the dough to the marked rising container and allow it to ferment in the Proofer until tripled. Alternatively, give the dough two eight-way folds now and two more during the first half hour of rising. Knead until the dough is moderately well developed, about 7 minutes by hand or 6 minutes in a stand mixer on speed 2. Mix by hand or machine on low speed until the dough comes together.ĭevelop structure. Add the butter, malt syrup and lukewarm water. Add the flour, salt and yeast to a mixing bowl and stir to combine. Mark a dough rising container at the 9 C / 2 L level. Set up the Proofer with water in the tray and the temperature set to 80 ☏ / 26 ☌.
Two Proofer-sized sheet pans, each at least 9 x 13″ / 23 x 33 cm but not bigger than 14¼ x 12” / 36 x 30 cm.
**If using Active Dry Yeast, use 1¼ tsp and dissolve it in the water from the recipe before mixing the dough. Reduce the water by 1-2 T to maintain a soft but not sticky dough consistency. Place pretzels in an oven-safe container with lid, or wrap them up in foil, and place on middle rack of oven set to “warm.*Unbleached all-purpose flour can also be used. Q: How can I keep my homemade pretzels warm for a party?Ī: Let baked pretzels cool at room temperature, while oven cools off. Heat for 15 seconds at a time, until desired warmth. To microwave, place pretzels on a glass plate and loosely cover with damp cloth/towel. Wait until they are completely cooled to room temp, place them in an airtight container, and freeze.Ī: If pretzels were frozen, let them defrost at room temperature first. That said, once the pretzels are fully cooled to room temperature, you can store them in an airtight container for a day or two, or freeze them for later.Ī: Yes, your homemade soft pretzels can absolutely be frozen. Q: What’s the best way to store soft pretzels?Ī: Chances are very high that your homemade pretzels will be snatched up before you get a chance to store them. Serve pretzels with melted butter, cheese sauce, or cinnamon-sugar Common Question and Answers:
Homemade ranch dressing or Creamy Caesar dressing are both delicious as dipping sauce.
Try this Magic Honey Mustard Sauce for dipping.
Cinnamon sugar is fantastic for a sweet alternative.
This Queso Cheese Sauce stays rich, smooth, and melty without clumping up.
Sprinkle warm pretzels with finely grated/powder parmesan cheese.
Everyone can join in the fun of topping pretzels with various options.
Older kids can help shape the pretzels.
Younger kids can get in on the kneading fun.
Texture of dough should be like pliable play-dough. If too dry, add a tablespoon of water at a time.

Knead dough for the full 5 minutes on floured surface if it’s too sticky, add a tablespoon of flour at a time.Be sure your package of active yeast is fresh.Use a digital kitchen thermometer for accurate water temperature, as it needs to be warm enough (but not hot) in order for yeast to thrive.Press ends of soft pretzels together tightly to seal Tips for Pretzel Making Success Bonus: if you’ve got a budding little baker in the house, this is a super fun recipe to do together. The point is, these homemade pretzels are 100% doable and fun to make, even if you’ve never baked bread in your life. Take these soft pretzels. Who would have thought I could gift my friends with soft and chewy homemade pretzels, straight out of my own oven? I mean, these twisty treats are usually reserved for shopping mall meanderings.īefore any assumptions can be made, know this: I’m the mom that chooses sprinkles over frosting because tossing sprinkles onto 3-ingredient shortbread cookies is way easier than frosting anything. Castletown Café Episode 6: Queen’s Battery Acid
Tumblr media
⚠️CONTENT WARNING⚠️
One of the recipes in this week’s episode contains alcohol. Said recipe will be saved for last, to make it easier to skip. The first recipe is safe for everyone, because I want to be inclusive and have a version that anybody can enjoy. If you have suffered alcohol-related trauma, and the featuring of a cocktail recipe is too much for you, I understand and you’re free to click away.
I also want to include a disclaimer and reminder to those who may be new to alcohol to drink in moderation! Many of us are victims of alcohol abuse or have alcoholics in our families, which usually causes us to either avoid the substance entirely or to be very careful with the substance. I know one can enjoy alcohol without getting addicted, as long as you are careful with it. Know the risks and how much is too much. Remember that you are capable of controlling your use of a drug without it controlling you! I believe in you. It’s up to you whether or not it’s worth the risk.
And now, onto the episode!
Tumblr media
One of the most well-known character traits of Queen is that she is often seen sipping from a glass of bright-green battery acid - and even has a pool of it in her mansion. Being a living computer, it’s likely the acid is probably nutritious for her, being like a power source and keeping her charged and functional. It is battery acid, after all - but that’s just my theory.
Of course, while that’s safe for a computer Darkener to drink, the same cannot be said for Lighteners. There are, however, types of acids that ARE safe for us to consume - citrus fruit being one of them. Sour, sweet, and delicious, I’ve concocted two mixed drinks inspired by Queen’s favorite.
Both versions have lime juice, American lemonade, a touch of ginger, as well as a tiny amount of green food coloring to make them bright green.
Here in the US, our lemonade is different. It’s not lemon-lime soda, but essentially lemon juice with sugar and diluted with water. Pre-mixed lemonade is readily available everywhere over here - I used Calypso brand for these recipes - but if American lemonade is hard to find in your country, you can make your own with recipes like this for example (from Delicious Meets Healthy). It’s quite easy to make! Just squeeze the juice out of a bunch of lemons, and add enough water and sugar so it’s not too sour or bitter. A good example is 8 lemons + 2 cups sugar or honey + 8 cups water.
Tumblr media
Good stuff right here - and it goes well in all manner of mixed drinks.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Needed equipment (for both):
Cocktail shaker - useful for mixing even non-alcoholic drinks! Preferably, you’ll want a shaker that also has a strainer built-in. Pictured above, mine has 3 pieces: the cup for your ingredients, lid #1 which has a strainer at the top for easy pouring into glasses, and lid #2 which serves as a cap during shaking and also serves as a jigger.
That said, you’ll want another, actual jigger (like the one I have pictured above) for easy and exact liquid measurement.
Citrus hand-juicer, for squeezing that fresh lime juice.
Ice, for chilling your drink as you shake it to mix your ingredients. The ice is treated more as equipment here as it doesn’t go into your finished drink, much like the ginger.
A coupe glass to serve your drink in
Lastly, and this goes without saying, but you’ll want a peeler to peel your ginger. Since you’ll only want a small amount of ginger root, peel your piece before cutting it off!
Tumblr media
We’ll start out with the one anyone can enjoy, balanced out with a touch of honey to combat the sourness - because the sugar in the lemonade I used simply wasn’t enough with the addition of the lime juice. The brininess of the club soda is the final addition to bring out a balance of flavors to this lemon-lime mocktail, as well as some fizz, and the ginger just adds extra pizazz to bring everything together.
QUEEN’S BATTERY ACID VER. 1
Ingredients:
1 oz lime juice
2 oz lemonade
Tiny piece of ginger root, about 1/4 inch
1-2 teaspoons of honey (I just eyeball it)
1 drop each green and yellow food coloring
Ice
Club soda/seltzer water
Wash and dry your lime and ginger. Peel a small amount of your ginger root and cut it off, about a 1/4-inch size.
Cut your lime in half and with your citrus juicer, squeeze out your lime juice. You should be able to get a whole 1 oz of juice from half a large lime that’s nice and heavy. Bigger and heavier limes mean more juice.
Cut off a small wedge of lime for your garnish and reserve it. If your lime half you just squeezed didn’t provide you with a full ounce, you can use part of your remaining half here.
Place like juice, lemonade, honey, ginger, food coloring, and ice in a shaker. Hold down the lid(s) and shake until chilled, about 15 seconds.
Drain your drink into a chilled coupe glass, add club soda/seltzer water until it’s filled to the top, and garnish with a lime wedge. Enjoy!
Tumblr media
QUEEN’S BATTERY ACID VER. 2
Ingredients:
1.5 oz (or 1 shot) citrus vodka
1/2 oz triple sec
1 oz lime juice
2 oz lemonade
Tiny piece of ginger root, about 1/4 inch
1 drop each green and yellow food coloring
Ice
Just like with the mocktail, follow steps 1 through 3 above: peeling your ginger and cutting off a 1/4 inch piece, squeezing half of your lime for that 1 oz of juice, and reserving a lime wedge for garnish.
Combine lime juice, citrus vodka, triple sec, lemonade, ginger, food coloring, and ice in a cocktail shaker and shake until chilled, about 15 seconds. Drain into a chilled coupe glass and garnish with a lime wedge. Enjoy responsibly.

HARRYWEEN 👻
Oh hello, ghouls!
I haven’t forgotten about this blog, or HS1, I promise. I am in the middle of getting ready to move, so things have been hectic to say the least. BUT, I wanted to get the first of two Harryween-related cocktails up on the blog just in time for my favourite holiday: Halloween!
It’s sweet, tart, with hints of sage and honey and a kick from the ginger beer- perfect for the fall, and such a gorgeous dark red colour that it screams Harryween.
I know it sucks that things have been cancelled this year, but I hope this brings a little happiness to your lives. And just think: it’s gonna be all the more fun next year, promise.
And so, without further a-boo (I’m sorry), here’s the Harryween! Trick or treat people with kindness! ;)
TO PREP
Honey, blackberry and sage simple syrup
1/2 pint fresh blackberries
1/3 cup honey
1/3 cup water
5-6 sage leaves
In saucepan over medium heat, combine blackberries, honey and water. Bring to a gentle simmer, then reduce heat to low.
Add sage leaves, stir and cover, letting the berries break down - about 20 minutes.
Remove from heat, let cool, then strain the syrup into an airtight container. Syrup will make about 6-8 cocktails and lasts about a week!
FOR THE DRINK
1 oz blackberry simple syrup
3 oz pomegranate juice
.75 oz lemon juice
2 oz gin (also works well with vodka or bourbon!)
.5 oz Cassis (or chambord)
2-3 sage leaves (+1 for garnish)
Ginger beer
In shaker/jar with lid, combine simple syrup, lemon juice and sage leaves. Gently muddle the sage until fragrant.
Add Gin, cassis, pomegranate juice and ice. Seal and shake until your shaker/jar is cold!
Strain into a rocks glass with new ice. Top with ginger beer.
Take the remaining sage leaf in your hand and place on your palm. Gently clap your hands together to bring out the oils, then run the sage around the rim of the glass before garnishing!
AN: would also make a great punch cocktail to share. You could add fresh blackberries and pomegranate seeds to the bowl as well.
To make it non-alcoholic: Everything but the gin, and a little extra ginger beer to give it a real boost!
And as always: while I am very happy to share my ideas on here: please don’t steal them as your own! Otherwise: enjoy responsibly and send me pictures if you decide to try it!! I track #hscocktailhour!
Spooky sipping! 🍹🎃

German Rumtopf
To make the German Rumtopf Recipe you need a fermenting crock pot. The size is depending on the amount of fruit used,  5 l – 1.32 gal or 11.35 l – 3 gal or a large stoneware pot with a lid. A preserving jar (5 l, also available in smaller sizes) with a rubber/glass lid can be an alternative. Furthermore, the seasonal fruit and Rum 54% alcohol or more. I like to mix the Stroh Rum 80% alcohol with a 43% Rum using two parts of Stroh Rum and one part of the 43% Rum, but you also can use just the Strohrum. You can find the Strohrum online at Wine Chateau.
What is a Rumtopf?
The Rumtopf is an alcoholic dessert consisting of Rum, sugar, and seasonal fruit. The ripe sugared fruits are added in layers to the pot and covered up with Rum. The Rum should be about 2 cm – 1 inch above the fruit. I start the Rumtopf with the strawberries by the end of May, beginning of June, and add the last fruit, the pineapple, by the end of October. It is a growing process, and best served after each layer of fruit has soaked in the alcohol for 4-6 weeks.
How to prepare the fruit
Use only ripe, clean, and washed fruit. Wash the berries gently and dry with a paper kitchen towel. Prick a hole into the blueberries using a wooden skewer. Remove the stems of the cherries and add them with the pit. Peel the apricots and peaches, remove the stone and cut into slices. Pit the Italian plums and cut into halves. Peel the pears, take the core out, and cut into small pieces. Cut the pineapples first in slices and then into cubes.
Starting the Rumtopf
Before starting the German Rumtopf, clean the container and stone with hot water and dry. Start with 1 pound of strawberry and one pound of sugar. Sprinkle the sugar over the strawberries and let sit for 30 minutes. Add to the pot and pour the Rum to it until covered. Continue with the other fruits as they are ripe using only half of the amount of sugar for the weight of the fruit. I use 250 g – 8.8 oz of raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, and grapes sprinkled with 125 g sugar. I use 500 g – 1.1 lbs of the other fruits combined with 250 g – 8.8 oz of sugar.
Make sure the fruit is not floating on top. The Rumtopf comes with a stone to keep the fruits down. If you use a container without a stone, you can use a plate on top of the fruit to keep them down. If you use a preserving jar, turn it from time to time. Cover the pot with cellophane foil before covering with the lid. Place the Rumtopf in a dark place like the basement, pantry, or closet.
Serve the Rumtopf on top of cakes, to vanilla pudding, or ice cream.
Fruit Calendar:
May/June: Strawberries
June: Red Raspberries
June/July: Cherries, Blueberries
July/August: Apricots, Peaches, Sour Cherries, Blackberries
August/September: Italian Plums (Prunes), Yellow Plums
August/September/October: Grapes (In some regions the Fall Red Raspberries)
September: Pears
October: Pineapple

Fuzzy Bantha - A Star Wars Inspired Cocktail
Tumblr media
This one took almost a month for me to make! If you have never been to the Star Wars: Black Spire section of Disney World, first of all, go. Its amazing. Second, Go to Ooga’s Cantina, it was one of the highlights of our trip. We had a drink there called the Fuzzy Tauntaun. It was basically a Fuzzy Navel but it was topped with the foam that made your face go numb. (in a fun way) I looked forever to try and fine a way to make the foam, most copycat recipes on the internet were amateurs trying their best, but not an exact recipe. So, I made one. Its basically a meringue infused with a specially made Buzz Button Moonshine. But, thats enough of me talking, lets get to the recipe(s)!
Buzz Button Moonshine 1 Cup Buzz Buttons (Szechuan Flowers) 8 oz 100 Proof Moonshine of Vodka Combine all ingredients in a jar and place in a cool dark place for about 2 weeks, shaking daily. strain into a new jar. discard flowers. Buzz Button Foam 4 ea Egg Whites 2 TBSP Sugar 2 TBSP Foaming Bar Sugar 3 oz Buzz Button Moonshine combine all ingredients into a large bowl and mix with a stand mixer or handheld mixer on high for about 60 seconds. place in a cool place for up to an hour Ginger Rosemary Syrup
1 Cup Water
1 Cup Sugar
8 Oz Ginger, Peeled and Diced
6 inch Rosemary Sprig (or two 3 inch, etc)
Boil together until sugar is melted, place in clean container with a lid (im a fan of mason jars) at least overnight in the fridge to meld the flavor, strain into a squeeze bottle for later use (This is an old recipe that can be found here:)
https://thats-so-maven.tumblr.com/post/650380839471972352/ginger-rosemary-syrup-this-stuff-is-powerful-i Fuzzy Bantha 1.5 oz Blanco Tequila 1 oz Peach Schnapps 1 oz Ginger Rosemary Syrup 2 oz Orange Juice Juice of 1 lime Garnish: Rosemary Sprig Lime Wedge Buzz Button Foam Combine all ingredients into a mixing tin with ice, shake for about 20 seconds, pour into a pint glass filled with ice, scoop about a 1/4 cup of Buzz Button Foam on top, garnish with lime wedge and Rosemary sprig.

CHEF ILONA: Pizza Grilled Cheese & Instant Pot Creamy Tomato Soup
Tumblr media
While it is easy to imagine popping a soup or stew into a Thermos; think bigger! Scrambled eggs, chicken fingers, ramen, oatmeal, nachos, and pierogis work really well in a Thermos. These recipes can be made in bulk and frozen, and reheated as needed; these pizza grilled cheese sandwiches work especially well. Do up an entire loaf’s worth of grilled cheese, wrap individually and freeze.
Tumblr media
To ensure that lunch stays hot in a thermos, here are your four steps to a satisfying school lunch:
Boil water by adding a large glass full of hot water into the microwave for 2-3 minutes.
Fill the Thermos with boiling water, close the lid and let it sit inside for about five minutes.
When you’re ready to fill the Thermos, pour out the water and add the pre-heated food immediately.
Cover your food with the lid as soon as you can to keep the heat inside of the container.
Meal planning and bulk cooking is the way to balance your desire to make nutritious home-cooked food with the realities of your limited schedule. My tomato soup recipe uses an Instant Pot to streamline the process; work smarter not harder, as my Grade 5 teacher Mr. Malar always used to say.

Instant Pot Creamy Tomato Soup Created by Chef Ilona Daniel
1/4 cup butter
1 medium onion, diced
6 cloves of garlic, sliced
1 Tbsp dried oregano
1 tsp of salt
2 Tbsp sugar
1/2 teaspoon of pepper, ground
2 cups of chicken stock
2 x 28 oz canned whole tomatoes
1 cup of heavy cream
Directions
Select the “saute” function on your Instant Pot and allow to heat up.
Add the butter, onion, and garlic and saute for two minutes, then add the oregano, salt, and pepper. Continue to saute for another two minutes, or until the vegetables are soft and the onions are translucent.
Add the chicken stock and canned tomatoes.
Put on the lid and set to high pressure for 10 minutes.
Once finished, use the quick release method to depressurize, then remove the lid.
Blend the soup with an immersion blender, until smooth and lump-free.
Stir through the cream and serve hot
*If you plan to freeze the soup, omit the cream and add the cream when you are re-heating. If you want to make this soup keto-friendly, omit the sugar. If you don’t have an Instant Pot, just do it the old-fashioned way; on the stovetop!

Magical Waters & Recipes Every Water Witch Should Know About
A few things before we get into this! Not all of these magical waters are meant to be consumed. Any waters you plan to ingest should be made with bottled water for safest results. Any herbs used should also be researched. Always always always be aware of what you’re putting into your body! Also this is for reference so it is very shorthanded with the recipes. You should have no problem finding more detailed versions online or in a book. Be sure to label your waters as specifically as possible. Date made/collected, herbs used, safe for consumption, etc should all be included. Lastly, any waters can have appropriate food coloring and/or glitter added to them as well.
Natural, to collect:
1. Rain - renewal, cleansing, adds extra potency to spells, peace, relaxation
2. Storm - strength, confidence, motivation, force, protection, cursing
3. Snow - purification, transformation, ending for a new beginning
4. Swamp - binding, cursing, banishing, warding
5. Sea - purification, protection, psychic abilities, healing, cursing
6. Lake - knowledge, memories, reflection, emotions
7. Pond - binding, restricting
8. River - moving on/forward, change, cycles
9. Dew - beauty, youth, fertility, love
Simple, charged waters:
1. Sun - purification, positivity, energy, solar magic Bask in the sun from sunrise to sunset
2. Moon - purification, balance, lunar magic, adds extra potency to spells Bask in the moonlight overnight
3. Rainbow - positivity, luck, hope, unity, money Use a mirror or another reflective object to make a ‘rainbow’ and leave water there for at least one hour
4. Shadow - strengthens secrets, hides truth, deception Bask in an area that receives no light whatsoever for a day
Advanced, to make:
1. War - banishing, cursing      - put nails and some spanish moss into a glass jar with one cup of water and let it sit for several weeks.      - once the moss decays and the color turns dark and murky, it’s ready      - meant to be thrown at the feet or on the doorstep of recipient      - can also be used as a protective barrier around the house
2. Indigo - protection, purification, empower charms      - mix one cup of water with 1 mexican anil ball
3. Infusions - usually used with fragile herbal matter      - pour 2 cups of boiling water over 3 whole flowers      - cover and leave until it cools completely      - strain into a glass container with a non-metallic lid      - store in a cool, dark place
4. Decoctions - usually used with dense herbal matter      - simmer herbal matter with 8 oz water      - do this until matter becomes limp & pale      - strain, store in a cool, dark place
5. Inks      - light a candle and hold the back or bowl of a metal spoon ABOVE the flame until it is covered with a black soot      - scrape off the black soot into a small bowl. *warning: this can be extremely tedious and time consuming      - add hot distilled water, one drop at a time, to dissolve the soot      - slowly add powdered gum arabic until desired consistency is achieved      - you can also try beet, grape or any other dark colored juice      - invisible ink is something you can try as well
6. Flower Essences Honestly, I’ve seen a few different ways to make these floating around online. I do not have enough experience with these to claim which is the ‘right’ way to do it, but, I do suggest you research it to see if it is something you’d be interested in making and utilizing in your craft. Especially if you have your own garden or greenhouse. It involves cutting fresh flowers and putting them in the sun with absolutely no shadows passing through it. I believe the process is similar to a gem essence. These are meant to be consumed, so please do your own research before attempting.
7. Gem Essences/Elixers      - place a cleansed, non-toxic crystal or gem into a clear glass bowl or bottle with water      - leave in sun or moonlight 6-12 hours      - remove crystal and add 2/3 preservative (this is the mother essence)      - add 7 drops of the mother essence to a small glass dropper      - top off with 1/3 preservative and 2/3 water (this is for use)
There are plenty other forms of magical waters and this list is by no means complete. Again, a simple search can find you more detailed versions or variations on these recipes. But I believe these are the most valuable to any witch who likes to use water in their craft.

Crone of Wisdom: Sage Plant Profile
Tumblr media
The Ancient Greeks, one of the many ancestral lines of traditional western herbalism, called the Goddess of universal remedy, Panacea. She is one of the Holy Ones invoked in the Hippocratic Oath and for  herbalists like myself She has lended her name to describing those special herbs - called panaceas - which offer a broad spectrum of healing gifts. Sage (Salvia officinalis), the herb teacher we’ll be meeting today, has long been revered as a panacea not only because of the ways that it supports inherent vitality and longevity, but because it helps us to process knowledge into wisdom.
So let’s meet, Sage!
Sage
Salvia officinalis
Folk Names : Sawge, common sage, garden sage Element : Earth, Fire, Air Moon Phase : New Moon Zodiac Signs : Gemini, Sagittarius Planets : Jupiter, Moon, Mercury Parts used : Aerial parts Habitat : Native to southeastern Europe, but naturalized widely. Growing conditions : Full sun and well-drained soil with moderate watering. Collection : Spring before plant flowers. Flavour : Pungent, bitter Temperature : Warm Moisture : Sometimes dry + sometimes oily Tissue States : Damp/Relaxation, Dry/Atrophy, Cold/Depression, Tension Constituents : Beta-carotene, B vitamins, niacin, vitamin C, calcium, iron, magnesium, volatile oils, flavonoids, tannin, phenolic acids, phytoestrogens, resin.
Actions : Anaphrodisiac, antifungal, antigalactogogue, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antiseptic, antispasmodic, antisudoforic, aromatic, astringent, carminative, choleretic, emmenagogue, estrogenic, expectorant, diaphoretic, digestive, hypotensive, hypoglycemic, nervine, phytoestrogenic, vermifuge.
Main uses : Sage is an impressive panacea of a plant. It’s an herb of longevity, promoting long life and protecting brain function as we age. The herb is warming and strengthening to the body and helps to clear out respiratory congestion. In other words, Sage helps us to breath deeply. Sage has an amphoteric relationship to the fluids of the body which is why it is categorized as both oily and drying in nature. If there is excess fluid, mucus, and catarrh, Sage’s astringent qualities dry out and expels it. The herbs astringency, for example, can be used for excess sweating and heavy periods. If there is lack of moisture, Sage’s oily qualities come into play, lubricating dry and atrophied passageways and organs of the body. The herb is used as part of weaning as it dries up breastmilk.
Sage is well-known as a circulatory tonic, but I would further classify it as a “processing” tonic in that it not only helps to move blood, heat, and information throughout the body, but it helps us to process these parts of ourselves as well. The herb moves energy downward from the crown of the head through the feet which is one of the reasons that Sage helps to calm us down, get restful sleep, and help with digestion.
Tumblr media
As a digestive tonic, Sage assists us with processing and digesting fats as well as nutrients from our foods. Look for signs of flatulence and cold digestion. The herb can be used for both chronic and acute infections, especially when fatigue is present. It’s a powerful herb that can be used for everything from the common cold to Staph aureus infections. As a neuroprotective brain tonic, Sage assists with the processing of information and memory, by protecting and improving cognitive function. Additionally, Sage helps to relieve the Tension Tissue State, helping someone shift from being reactive to receptive.
Topically, Sage is a great addition to hair rinses, helping to prevent hair loss, reduce dandruff, and even return or improve the color of the hair. It is also an excellent herb for burning and all varieties - not just the over-harvested and dangerously endangered White Sage (Salvia apiana) variety - are wonderful for cleansing the energy of body and place. One of my favorite ways to use Sage is as a gargle for sore throats and canker sores in the mouth. It can also be used topically for cuts, burns, bruises, bites and stings. It makes a very effective pain and inflammation-relieving compress for swollen and sprained joints.
Magickal uses : Sage is probably best known magically as “smudge” and it works powerfully to cleanse a space. But please do not purchase White Sage (Salvia apiana) but grow your own and protect the few remaining plants in the wild. The plant has been dangerously overharvested in the name of spiritual practice which is a fundamentally un-spiritual act. The great news is that other Sages can be used in place of White Sage including Black Sage (Salvia apiana) and Garden Sage, both of which can be harvested sustainably. Use in spells of longevity and immortality. A great herb not only for physical health but for spiritual health. Use in rites of grieving. An herb of the Crone, work with Sage to connect with the Old One.
The Sage Personality : Every one of us is growing and maturing. Some of the time we feel able to learn from our growth, develop as people, and feel a little bit wiser at the end of the day. Other times aging and growing feels ungraceful, traumatic, and miserable. Sage is particularly useful for folks for whom the latter is true, especially if their stall in maturation is a chronic one. The Sage personality isn’t a classic victim or martyr type but is more often fixated on being ill-fated. They might be able to learn from their previous life experiences in a logical manner, but the wisdom has a difficult time permeating into their body. Sage folks often struggle with their body, bodily changes, and signs of aging. If they are so dissatisfied with their physical form why would they want to inhabit it deeper? Fortunately, Sage isn’t here to force us to be embedded in a body we struggle with but to learn how to descend into the wisdom that resides in our physical form without getting hung up on it. In a state of balance, Sage folk are the wisdom keepers and elders (regardless of age) that we are always in need of.
Tumblr media
Contraindications : Avoid large doses during pregnancy. Avoid while nursing (it dries up the milk). In very large doses, its thujone content may adversely affect those with epilepsy, high blood pressure or kidney disease.
Dosage : Standard dosage. Hot tea to induce sweating, cold tea to stop sweating and discharge. 1 tsp per 8 oz water; Adults 30 - 60 drops tincture or 1 - 10 drops for drop dosage.
White Sage Smudging Alternatives
Since White Sage (Salvia apiana) is endangered, unless you are growing it on your own (which you should to help our beloved survive), I strongly encourage you to use a different herb for the purposes of smudging. Here is a short list of herbs that offer a wonderful alternative to White Sage as a smudge
Garden Sage (Salvia officinalis)
Juniper (Juniperus officinalis)
Cedar (Cedrus spp.)
Lavender (Lavandula officinalis)
Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis)
Mugwort (Artemisia spp.)
Myrrh (Commiphora myrrha)
Frankincense (Boswellia spp.)
Copal (Protium copal)
Pine (Pinus sylvestri)
Smoke-Free Smudging Alternatives
Smoky smudge may be popular but it’s not always feasible (enclosed spaces, housing restrictions, allergies, etc) and there are plenty of smoke-free ways to cleanse a space.
Room Spray with salt and/or essential oils and/or flower essences
Crystals placed in a room or waved through the aura
Sound including your voice, bells, chimes, singing bowls and other instruments
Candles made of high-quality wax
Sunlight and fresh air
Croaking Toad Cough + Sore Throat Oxymel
An oxymel is a form of herbal syrup combining honey (or other liquid sweetener like agave or coconut syrup) with raw apple cider vinegar. Croaking Toad is a great remedy to have during cold and ‘flu season as it contains a combination of soothing expectorants and vitality supporting herbs to help us find our way back to feeling well.
Begin by combining the following dried herbs:
1 part Licorice Root (Glycyrrhiza glabra)
1 part Marshmallow Root (Althea officinalis)
1 part Elecampane Root (Inula helenium)
1/2 part Sage Leaf (Salvia officinalis)
1/4 part Chlorella Powder (Chlorella vulgaris)
Place all herbs in a glass jar with a tight sealing lid. Since we are using raw apple cider vinegar as our menstruum, you might choose to use a plastic lid or place wax paper between the metal lid and the blend to prevent corrosion. Cover your herbs with (preferably local) raw apple cider vinegar so that there is roughly 3/4 inch of the vinegar floating above or below the herbs. Let your blend brew for a few weeks - I typically brew all of my extracts for one cycle of the Moon.
Once ready, strain the herbs from the vinegar. Then, mix local raw honey with your herbal vinegar. My weight ratio for the vinegar to honey is 1 part vinegar to 6 parts honey. Basically, add honey to taste. If you want a sweeter elixir or oxymel, that is less herbally potent, add more honey. For a more herbally potent oxymel, add less honey. Stir together the honey and vinegar until they dissolve into one another in a loving embrace of healing wellness. Bottle and store in a cool dark place. I store mine in the refrigerator.
A dose of 1 teaspoon - 1 tablespoon is recommended up to 3 times daily during times of cough and sore throat.  You'll want to refrigerate your Croaking Toad Oxymel use within 6 - 12 months.

Ok first things first.
When you are making Wassail, a type of spiced cider drink, THERE IS NO RECIPE!!!!
The reason why is what you put in with the cider will depend on the cider itself, and your personal preferences.
Traditionally, in the southwest of England (medieval times) where Wassailing originated, they used ginger, cinnamon, and nutmeg, and white bread as a sort of sop. I might also add that the cider was alcoholic mulled cider hehe.
Nowadays, one may put in whatever they fancy to craft Wassail.
Lemons, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, pepper corns, chili flakes, pineapple, nutmeg, jelly, jams, fruit preserves, spiced pears, wine, vodka, whiskey, the list goes on!
Anyway, this is how I made MY Wassail, nothing spicy or alcoholic bc my nephews were visiting lol.
Stove top (or microwave can also be used, u just need to heat it up so the flavors permeate :3)
A large pan OR large microwaveable glass container
One gallon of my local orchards cider. (Now this years flavor is a little sweet, so I went with a lot sour stuff to combat that :3)
Three large lemons, halved and squeezed into pan
Two Sour cooking apples, cut horizontally in thin slices. It looks pretty that way :3
Around two tablespoons of fresh ginger, sliced
One small can of pineapple juice (like 6 oz?)
Two sticks of cinnamon
Like 12 cloves?
Nutmeg and mace sprinkled on top!
And then I let it simmer for a lonnnnnng time with the lid on and then it’s done!
The longer the flavors are together, the better it gets.
Usually I use more of a spicy chai tea blend (y’know like the Starbucks chai latte) for my Wassail bc I like spicy hot drinks in the cold, but to each their own! You can make your own Wassail in mug form by preparing the non-cider ingredients and freezing them into mug portions! You can then heat the mug in the microwave and refill the cider when needed :D
Anyway, I wanted to spread a cheering drink to all my friends on this site!!! Please reblog so everyone experiences warm comfort!
