"Two Sides of the Same Coin"- Two things that are regarded as part of the same thing. Even if they're very different, they have at least one common thread that helps them fit into this trope.

Propaganda:

Akira Kurusu and Goro Akechi:

"Pitted against each other by a cruel god as his playthings. Both had their lives altered by the same man. They both have the power to summon more than one persona, but while Joker hs multiple and also a whole team of friends to support him, Akechi only has two and is alone. Akechi is the foil to all of the Phantom Thieves, him being the version of them that used the powers of their Persona to exact his revenge, instead of reforming the people they went after."

I just finished the P1 manga, and it gave me a different angle on what I think is a pre-existing idea for Akechi in Maruki's reality, which is that the Akechi we see and that Akira interacts with from about Christmas Eve onward is actually some sort of mix between a cognition and his own Shadow, brought about from Akechi himself being in a coma and not even able to interact with the world.

The more they go through Maruki's palace and experience his reality, the more "Akechi" figures out something's off, but refuses to stop fighting because even if he isn't real, that doesn't mean he thinks the world should be turned into Maruki's playground just so that he can continue to exist.

Akira meanwhile only finds out on 2/2, where Maruki's convinced that the real Akechi is dead, only for Akechi to say that if that were true, then "he" would not be able to exist - but Maruki bites back with "perhaps so, but neither of you have any surety that he's going to wake up, and he won't remember any of this if he does." (Essentially, what Naoya has to face when they defeat Pandora and have things turn back to normal, with Ideal Maki disappearing.)

So here, Akira has to face the idea that even if Akechi's technically "alive," he might not wake up, and even if he does wake up he won't remember any of January because in a way that wasn't the real Akechi who went through all those things with them, had that Showtime, fought alongside them, experienced those moments of friendship... and Akira's going to lose the progress he'd made when they revert reality.

But they do fight, because the hope that the real Akechi's going to wake up is more important, and they'll always be able to make new memories (and Cognition-Shadow Akechi goes "fuck it, I'm about to disappear so it doesn't matter what I do, I can confess to the boy I like if I want to" before he goes).

Akechi wakes up a month or two later, not able to remember anything but having a vague sense that something happened. Sooner or later, they find him or he finds them, and sometimes there's these awkward moments of "didn't I already tell you that?" and re-living things that one side has already experienced but that are brand new to the Akechi who never lived through them the first time.

Hi, thanks for asking! Well, here's the barebones of the AU:

It's a Shuake-centric AU named Fireflies In A Jar. It's essentially a "Akechi heals" AU. It's a mix of the vanilla storyline and Royal storyline.

Essentially, Akira decides to stay in Tokyo after defeating Maruki. He mainly stayed for the Thieves....and Akechi.

See, because the Akechi he saw in Maruki's reality was the real Akechi. He survived. And he wanted to run away from society....from Akira.

Akira (bless him) tries to help Akechi heal properly from Shido's abuse. So the rest of the Phantom Thieves assist as well, but from a distance.

I don't really have headcanons for this AU, but I do have one headcanon for P5 that I hold near to my heart. My hc is that the Metaverse actually affects the PTs in reality, either obviously or subtlety. Like:

Akira laughs like Arsene. On some occasions, he even gains Arsene's wings.

Ryuji sees a pirate ship fly near his home at nights.

Ann sometimes acts like a cat. She likes to scratch Ryuji like A LOT.

Yusuke can withstand the cold (get it cuz goemon has the ice element-)

Morgana's initials are M.Z. The Z shouldn't be there, but he can't help it.

Makoto owns a motorcycle. She takes Haru and Ann for rides. She also picks up Sae from work.

Haru has her PT weapon hidden in her closet somewhere. She jokingly threatens to bring it along with her when one of her friends had their bad day caused by someone.

Since Futaba is the oracle of the group, she knows certain things beforehand. For example, when she's going to type anything on her computer, she already knows what she's going to type.

Akechi can deliberately turn himself psychotic (see; the shuake showtime), and of course he uses it to scare the Thieves. Someone accidentally stepped on his shoe? His face twitches and his eyes glow a terrifying blood red. Then he laughs and say that he's joking- just don't fucking do it again.

Sumire found glass slippers at her doorstep. She keeps them in a box so they don't break.
