IDGAF Mindset 101
Tumblr media
“90% of life is confidence. And the thing is about confidence is no one knows if it’s real or not.” - Maddy Perez/ Alexa Demie
Tumblr media
Learn to say no. Any situation that you are uncomfortable in or don’t want to do something. SAY NO! It’s not rude to say no. What is rude is someone forcing you into something you don’t want to do. If it helps you can even say “no, thank you.” You’re still saying no but in a nicer form.
2. “If they don’t know you personally, don’t take it personal.” Why take a comment from someone personally? Do they know you, the REAL you. In fact, do you even know the real you? If they don’t, then don’t take it personally. Their comments aren’t going to matter when you’re living your dream life. It won’t matter in 10 years. So, don’t spend 10 seconds thinking about it.
3. Don’t allow disrespect! Would you let your (future) daughter get disrespected? I don’t think so. Therefore don’t allow yourself to get disrespected. If people are making your uncomfortable, let them know! If people are making comments about you, stand up for yourself. If you don’t want to do any of those, then walk away. NEVER let ANYONE disrespect you.
4. Altogether you need self respect! In order to do most of these, you need self respect. Self respect will help you overcome a lot of obstacles. Self respect is a strong aspect of your life. It’s not just a feeling or belief, it’s a skill. Not everyone has or can have strong self respect. The first step to self respect is work on your low self-esteem. That, is if you have self-esteem. Nevertheless, working on yourself in general is something you won’t regret! I recommend you watch self-development Youtubers. My favorites are Tam Kaur, TheWizardLiz, Simonesimmo, Persephonesmind, Lana Blakely, etc
5. Think of your haters as fans! Haters are truly your biggest fans. Whether they like it or not they are. They hate, hate, hate, and hate but they are still watching. They are still commenting on your every move. They still try to bring you down to feel good about themselves. All they are, is jealous fans.

Just the way you are.
Tumblr media
requested by @nekosounds saying: Can I please request a Rhea x Reader where the reader is chubby and feels a little insecure about their weight. Especially around so many muscular people. But Rhea tells them they're perfect just the way they are? Maybe some backstage people make fun of reader and Rhea defends reader. Sorry if this is long
pairing: Rhea Ripley x fem chubby reader.
genre: friends to lovers,angst,fluff.
summary: while your friend Rhea bought you to your first wrestling show, something goes wrong. But,as always, Rhea handles it her way, secretly receiving a kiss from you.
warnings: bodyshaming.
⋆ ˚。⋆𔓘⭒๋࣭
You have always been insecure about your weight.
Since you were a teenager, you never liked to be the biggest of the group, you never liked to expose you body, you never liked the way everyone always seemed to stress you about getting a boyfriend or to get skinnier.
You always longed to feel love, like other beautiful girls did.
What did you have that was different from them? You were still lovable,it's not like you were a toy without feelings.
That's what your bestfriend Rhea told you multiple times during your whole friendship.
She never judged you for your body, and she slowly made her way into your heart, causing you to develop a massive crush on her.
You never dared to tell her though, because you knew she wouldn't like you back, and you didn't want to ruin the beautiful friendship you had. (Oh,you were so wrong.)
This week,Rhea invited you to your first WWE Monday Night Raw show, since she wanted you to watch her wrestle against Alexa Bliss. (Also, because she wanted to show off her skills, trying to impress you.)
You eagerly accepted her offer, and you just couldn't wait to see her in the ring, too mesmerised to even take your eyes off her in normal circumstances, so imagine seeing her fight: a (not so) straight dream came true.
During the journey in the airplane and in the car to arrive in New York, she never left your side, because she didn't want anything to happen while she wasn't there.
"I'm so excited!" You were literally jumping on the car seat from the happiness, and Rhea couldn't help to smile.
"Girl! Calm down!" Rhea said while giggling at your cuteness, while you comically stopped in your tracks,a shy smile plastered on your face.
The two of you continued chatting while the car you were in was bringing you to the arena, talking about Rhea's gear tonight and her asking you who would win.
After arriving at the arena,a backstage worker was showing Rhea her locker room, and you felt like you were some sort of intruder.
"It's pretty big in here, it looks like a bedroom." You said after the backstage worker left, looking around curiously.
"It is! I forced my manager to pick the biggest one so we could enjoy our time together." Rhea smirked, and your face became as red as a tomato.
You saw a lot of muscly, strong and attractive wrestlers, males and females, greet Rhea, and you felt out of place.
Everyone is so jacked and strong and you were just the opposite.
Your insecurity started to take the best of you,and you were ashamed of being the way you were.
But your thoughts were interrupted by someone shouting:"Rhea Ripley! You need to do your entrance in 5 minutes!"
"Oh God." She said, while hurriedly putting her gear on and fixing her hair.
"Okay,Y/N,come with me,I'll bring you to the audience seats." A backstage assistant told me,already knowing that Rhea wanted you to see her fight.
You shyly followed after him, while everyone was starting to stare at you, they wondered who you were. (But they were quickly shut up by Rhea's glare.)
Finally,after almost 5 minutes,Rhea made her entrance.
Her powerful aura and her loud music made her look magical, and you couldn't help but stare at her, hoping she wouldn't notice.
But oh,she did.
She winked and blowed you a kiss, and your face immediately flushed.
Today, she had a match against Alexa Bliss, and soon enough, you heard her entrance music blast in your ears.
While Alexa Bliss was entrataining the crowd with dance moves and with little waves,Rhea was secretly watching you.
Your round face's features were highlighted by the stage lights, and you looked beautiful as hell.
"Oh,dear Rhea. Long time no see, huh?" Alexa smirked, while Rhea was glaring at her.
"I see you have company today! Mind to introduce that fatty right here?" Alexa said while pointing at you in the crowd, and Rhea was furious.
Your bestfriend landed a punch on Alexa's face, not even caring about the script. Her enemy was clearly taken off guard, and didn't have any time to fight back, thanks to Rhea's unforgiving punches.
"never. talk. about. my. girl. like. that. again. Understood?" Rhea said while throwing punches to Alexa Bliss' body, while said girl was crying in pain.
Rhea got out of the ring and took a steel chair, swinging it on Alexa's back, while you watched in horror.
"Oh my god" Your mouth was wide open, just like your eyes were about to come out of your head.
Referees had to take Rhea off Alexa, and you stood up to follow Rhea, who was storming out of the ring, going straight to the backstage.
"This bitch!" Rhea shouted while running through the hallways, you following closely behind her.
"Rhea! Calm down!" You shouted, while holding her arm.
She turned to face you,and you saw her gaze softening.
"I'm sorry this happened, baby. At least I gave her a good beating,no one treats my girl that way. You're amazing just the way you are, don't forget that." She smirked while you shyly smiled, and she came closer to you,and your lips were lightly touching.
"You know what,I really really like you,Y/N. And I'm sure you do too, right?" She mumbled with her deep voice, and you answered her question with your actions.
Your lips collided with hers,a sealed promise to always be togheter no matter what.
"You did all of that just for me?" You asked while wrapping your hands around her waist, and she hold you tight.
"Oh hell yeah. Under any circumstance,I might do even more than what I did out there." She answered, pointing to the ring.
"I love you, baby." She said, and you kissed her again.

Finally got around to watching Renee’s episode of ‘My Life Is Murder’. I liked it a lot. Spoiler alert: she did it. 😚
Also loved the little Easter Egg they left in for the Xena and Gabrielle fans when Renee’s character, Clarissa, told Lucy’s character, Alexa, that “going on this journey with me will change your entire life” as they held hands.
If you know their dynamic and development in Xena, you know why that’s an Easter Egg in this. Soulmates.
You could practically just perceive Alexa and Clarissa as another reincarnated lifetime for Xena and Gabrielle but in this time they’re not so chummy but rather equalled rivals. In Clarissa, Alexa finally meets her match as far as reading people and finding ways to get information out of them. She’s just as much of a skilled and intelligent manipulator of emotions and she doesn’t make it easy.
There’s some really spicy power play going on there. Enjoyable to watch for a fan of both these actresses.
I’m guessing they were thinking for a long time what their dynamic should be in this show and they didn’t want to present with something obvious and boring.

Hi Sophie!
So I don't know much more specific things to ask, but what are some of the most prominent headcanons you have about Rejuv characters?
Hi—thank you so much for the ask! It’s nice to meet you. Sorry it took a while for me to answer it.  I have come to the devastating realization that I am, in fact, boring, and do not have many headcanons of my own. So, I decided to include the few I could think of in addition to a few random theories with little to no context or explanation. May go into detail in some of these in the future if anyone’s interested~! I would love to hear your headcanons and theories too! :)
Spoilers under the cut!
Headcanons:
All of the member of A-Team (Aevis, Aevia, etc.) have prominent Sanpaku eyes
Erin’s voice has a lower register than Melia’s (based on that one comment she made about Melia’s voice being annoying lol)
Ren and Aelita have feelings for each other but won’t act on them until Team Xen is no longer a threat. I mean this is p much confirmed on Ren’s end (thanks Nastasia!)
Amber has a crush on PLAYER!
Kenneth eventually developed a bit of a drinking problem (relatable). Alexa, play Talia by King Princess
Tho they aren’t technically related, Jenner passed his love for death metal onto Melia
PLAYER inherits skills from A-Team. Like piano playing! (confirmed in an old version, rip)
Mini Theories:
(Some are move obvious than others. Some may conflict. This is just for fun pls don’t come for me)
Geara’s Giratina is Griselda (say that five times fast lol). And this is the same Giratina we explored Darchlight Caves with. Also she’s Spacea and Tiempa’s sister, but is somehow trapped in her Giratina form. What the hell (pun intended) was in that chalice???
Crescent’s father is Vitus. Not sure how this would work since he technically can’t reproduce (according to what Vitus said in the past). But it would explain why Crescent’s fate is wrapped up in Melia and Erin’s
PLAYER is Missing.EXE from the Paragon encrypted files. Which means they’re supposed to be the embodiment of Zygarde. OR Madame X is Missing.EXE
Vitus’s soul has (somehow) latched on to Maria’s (using the crystal thingy she was trapped in maybe?) and he uses the power of the Archetype to move between different bodies. Password: unbound soul and all of that. All to achieve immortality
Nim is Nymiera! (not a huge leap at this point lol). But a version corrupted by Storm-9 / Rift Matter. She is constantly being drained by something… but what exactly?
I think there’s a chance that Maria actually was an only child, but used the Archetype to wish for siblings. This then altered the memory of Vitus or something. Idk there’s a good chance this is not the case. But like, seriously, how many “Archetypes" are there? How would you “split” an Archetype? Crack it like a wish bone??? Is it split evenly??? Would love some clarity on this
The “past” Aevium isn’t actually the past—it’s someone’s MEMORY (or perhaps, the Core’s memory?) of the past. And therefore, sort of an illusion. That’s how the time crystals worked in Alamissa, at least. Erin also hinted at one point (I think this is still in the latest version? But correct me if I’m wrong) that the “past” Aevium may not necessarily be what it seems. Or, the past is a different dimension or world
In order for the Paragon world to survive, the Renegade world must be destroyed. This is renegade!PLAYER’s motive. (“With life, there is also death. With death, there is also life.” “I gain nothing. They gain everything.” “The light within the belly of Ouroboros shall never cease, lest the flames be doused by the will of the suffering.”)
In the “corrupted future” Blacksteeple Castle event where Melia dies and her power is awakened, she successfully transforms a “wilting” world into a “blooming” world using the power of the Archetype. On that vein, Madame X’s goal is to turn the current world into a wilting world to save the world she comes from. That’s why Madame X bemoaned that “this is was an outcome… I prayed to never see”
The SS Oceana is a vessel between worlds and part of the Interceptor program’s (and therefore Variya’s) design. I mean it FUSED ITSELF WITH THE SEABED ma’am that is not normal. Also the pillars and stuff. I’ve written a longer post on this that’s coming soon~!
Melia is the manifestation of a wish made by Maria—a wish so strong she somehow transported half of her Archetype’s energy to her. Or there’s maybe a scenario where Maria knew Melanie and wished Melanie was… different? Or something? Lol. Possible also an Interceptor. Like PLAYER, she remembers people after they were deleted. Core motif and whatnot.

The Future of Web Development: Trends, Techniques, and Tools
Web development is a dynamic field that is continually evolving to meet the demands of an increasingly digital world. With businesses relying more on online presence and user experience becoming a priority, web developers must stay abreast of the latest trends, technologies, and best practices. In this blog, we’ll delve into the current landscape of web development, explore emerging trends and tools, and discuss best practices to ensure successful web projects.
Understanding Web Development
Web development involves the creation and maintenance of websites and web applications. It encompasses a variety of tasks, including front-end development (what users see and interact with) and back-end development (the server-side that powers the application). A successful web project requires a blend of design, programming, and usability skills, with a focus on delivering a seamless user experience.
Key Trends in Web Development
Progressive Web Apps (PWAs): PWAs are web applications that provide a native app-like experience within the browser. They offer benefits like offline access, push notifications, and fast loading times. By leveraging modern web capabilities, PWAs enhance user engagement and can lead to higher conversion rates.
Single Page Applications (SPAs): SPAs load a single HTML page and dynamically update content as users interact with the app. This approach reduces page load times and provides a smoother experience. Frameworks like React, Angular, and Vue.js have made developing SPAs easier, allowing developers to create responsive and efficient applications.
Responsive Web Design: With the increasing use of mobile devices, responsive design has become essential. Websites must adapt to various screen sizes and orientations to ensure a consistent user experience. CSS frameworks like Bootstrap and Foundation help developers create fluid, responsive layouts quickly.
Voice Search Optimization: As voice-activated devices like Amazon Alexa and Google Home gain popularity, optimizing websites for voice search is crucial. This involves focusing on natural language processing and long-tail keywords, as users tend to speak in full sentences rather than typing short phrases.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning: AI is transforming web development by enabling personalized user experiences and smarter applications. Chatbots, for instance, can provide instant customer support, while AI-driven analytics tools help developers understand user behavior and optimize websites accordingly.
Emerging Technologies in Web Development
JAMstack Architecture: JAMstack (JavaScript, APIs, Markup) is a modern web development architecture that decouples the front end from the back end. This approach enhances performance, security, and scalability by serving static content and fetching dynamic content through APIs.
WebAssembly (Wasm): WebAssembly allows developers to run high-performance code on the web. It opens the door for languages like C, C++, and Rust to be used for web applications, enabling complex computations and graphics rendering that were previously difficult to achieve in a browser.
Serverless Computing: Serverless architecture allows developers to build and run applications without managing server infrastructure. Platforms like AWS Lambda and Azure Functions enable developers to focus on writing code while the cloud provider handles scaling and maintenance, resulting in more efficient workflows.
Static Site Generators (SSGs): SSGs like Gatsby and Next.js allow developers to build fast and secure static websites. By pre-rendering pages at build time, SSGs improve performance and enhance SEO, making them ideal for blogs, portfolios, and documentation sites.
API-First Development: This approach prioritizes building APIs before developing the front end. API-first development ensures that various components of an application can communicate effectively and allows for easier integration with third-party services.
Best Practices for Successful Web Development
Focus on User Experience (UX): Prioritizing user experience is essential for any web project. Conduct user research to understand your audience's needs, create wireframes, and test prototypes to ensure your design is intuitive and engaging.
Emphasize Accessibility: Making your website accessible to all users, including those with disabilities, is a fundamental aspect of web development. Adhere to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) by using semantic HTML, providing alt text for images, and ensuring keyboard navigation is possible.
Optimize Performance: Website performance significantly impacts user satisfaction and SEO. Optimize images, minify CSS and JavaScript, and leverage browser caching to ensure fast loading times. Tools like Google PageSpeed Insights can help identify areas for improvement.
Implement Security Best Practices: Security is paramount in web development. Use HTTPS to encrypt data, implement secure authentication methods, and validate user input to protect against vulnerabilities. Regularly update dependencies to guard against known exploits.
Stay Current with Technology: The web development landscape is constantly changing. Stay informed about the latest trends, tools, and technologies by participating in online courses, attending webinars, and engaging with the developer community. Continuous learning is crucial to maintaining relevance in this field.
Essential Tools for Web Development
Version Control Systems: Git is an essential tool for managing code changes and collaboration among developers. Platforms like GitHub and GitLab facilitate version control and provide features for issue tracking and code reviews.
Development Frameworks: Frameworks like React, Angular, and Vue.js streamline the development process by providing pre-built components and structures. For back-end development, frameworks like Express.js and Django can speed up the creation of server-side applications.
Content Management Systems (CMS): CMS platforms like WordPress, Joomla, and Drupal enable developers to create and manage websites easily. They offer flexibility and scalability, making it simple to update content without requiring extensive coding knowledge.
Design Tools: Tools like Figma, Sketch, and Adobe XD help designers create user interfaces and prototypes. These tools facilitate collaboration between designers and developers, ensuring that the final product aligns with the initial vision.
Analytics and Monitoring Tools: Google Analytics, Hotjar, and other analytics tools provide insights into user behavior, allowing developers to assess the effectiveness of their websites. Monitoring tools can alert developers to issues such as downtime or performance degradation.
Conclusion
Web development is a rapidly evolving field that requires a blend of creativity, technical skills, and a user-centric approach. By understanding the latest trends and technologies, adhering to best practices, and leveraging essential tools, developers can create engaging and effective web experiences. As we look to the future, those who embrace innovation and prioritize user experience will be best positioned for success in the competitive world of web development. Whether you are a seasoned developer or just starting, staying informed and adaptable is key to thriving in this dynamic landscape.

KEEPER - Lens Tests and Personal Development
Through the early part of this term, I have been trying to get to grips with the new equipment available in my fourth year, develop my overall understanding of cinematography and attempt to find more work in the camera/lighting departments.
During the summer, I spent some time with MTP on set in a work experience/shadowing capacity. This was very interesting, being able to watch a camera and lighting team work on a commercial for a day. I was picking the Gaffer and Cinematographer's brain and observing how the light was being used on this set. One thing I was missing in my lighting knowledge was a bit of clarity on using soft light. In my mind, I had associated the softness of a light with what materials it passed through, instead of the size of the source. I realised I had used the diffusion totally incorrectly on The Play, a short from last year. I was trying to put more layers in front of the light to soften it without widening the beam. For example, I had a light shining through a window which I had skinned with half-white diffusion, but, hadn't allowed the light to fill out the entire window. On Longboard Nights, the last short I shot, I was using primarily hard light which I think matched the mood of the piece, however, I wasn't controlling the bounce correctly. I was wanting high-contrast images and thought hard light would do most of the work for me. However, in a house with white walls, creating high contrast really relies on the minimising of bounce and spill. That set also showed me something I should've used all the way through the shoot of Longboard Nights which was: when trying to shoot night interiors during the day, skinning the windows with blue gels and ND can give a dusky ambience to the room, which can then be accentuated by any planned lighting. While this was a great day that taught me a lot and introduced me to great people, I am kicking myself that I had to turn down a job offer that I got off the back of this, because I was still working hospitality and it was late notice. This is something I'll need to work out the balance of upon graduating: paying the bills while also being available for any career moves.
Tumblr media
Wee Alex in the background, on set doing some really impactful interviews for "Don't Say Gay", find the teaser here: https://vimeo.com/885958871
In the first month of term, I spent a few days working as a Grip on two projects - one a documentary, the other a scripted drama short. Again, I was learning a lot about the importance of soft light in an interview setting, but also working with natural light on the drama short, something I have taken into the test shoot for Keeper this term. It was also interesting to see how the cinematographer worked with the director. I really enjoy the way Ben and I work together and I think it opened my eyes to the things we do well (our communication is very clear and the trust is there, I think) and where our methodology for how we tell the story is lacking. This is something we reassessed after the Test Shoot which I will expand on in another post.
Then, with our first few classes this term, I was having a couple refreshers on Lighting, where I could put this developed understanding into practice. We also spent the time learning how to use the Alexa Classic which I then used on the Test Shoot in November.
I have always believed that the cinematography must follow the story instead of having any motivation around beauty or interest. So, the script development phase is the perfect time for me to be developing my overall skills instead of trying to develop the look of the film.
However, once I had a clear idea of what the story involved, I was able to start conversations with Ben about the perspective of the piece. We agreed that the film should be entirely from Will, the protagonist's perspective. In my previous work, the camera's perspective was mainly designed to accentuate emotion - for example, The Play's wide frames and locked off camera accentuated the emotional distance between the characters. But, this approach was an observational one, the audience's emotions are being played as an observer, without a direct association with the psychology of any of the characters. For Keeper, we feel that the only way that the full drama and impact of the story can be felt is if we are with our protagonist throughout, so we can see how much he cares, how hard he works, how his insecurities are brought forward and how hard it hurts when he realises he will never get what he wants. So, as a guiding principle for this film, we will only be seeing Will or what he sees, how he sees it.
With this idea pretty much locked-in, I was able to test the lenses available to me with an eye for how they would impact this idea of perspective. Here are the results (I forgot to export the subtitles which specified the lens but I know, and when we made decisions we knew which we were choosing, just take my word for it). Probably best to watch at 2x speed, it's a bit long...

A close-up on a 24mm, 50mm and 85mm
I knew the frame sizes and views we would most likely be relying on: close-ups on Will, wides of the pitch, mids of Graham at a distance. I found during these tests that for the early parts of the film, I would want to be watching Will in a 24mm as it gives a view wide enough for us to see him and his environment without being so short as to be distracting in it's warping and unconventional rendering of a face. But, as the film progresses and Will becomes increasingly insecure and loses sight of anything but his own performance, we move onto the 85mm via the 50mm. This approach also worked for me with the changing room scenes that sit either side of the training session.
Tumblr media
Will sitting in a MCU on a 24mm
In the first changing room scene, we can see some of his team mates' shoulders, his clothes hanging up - we are situated in the space. But then, when he returns, he feels totally alone. This is where we could still go in two directions. One is to come in close, to analyse Will's emotions in this moment and the other is to go wide to feel his isolation and loneliness.
Tumblr media
An inspiration still from Win Win (2011)
Another building block of Will's perspective is his watching of Graham, the coach, whose opinion of Will determines his future. I wanted to see Graham in an over the shoulder to better emphasise the perspective and by blocking part of the frame with Will's shoulder, it pushes us in closer to Graham, adding intensity without needing to be tighter in. This I liked most on the 85mm, again, this was due to a balance of environment and subject.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A comparison of Get Out (2017) 's clean single and the dirty single from my tests
Another view I wanted to have was the expanse of the pitch, to see Will looking out at too much for him to handle. I wasn't able to frame up properly during my tests as I had a limited time and I was both operator and stand-in, but I think the 24mm, was again the right choice for this view.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
An example of what I wanted to achieve and the result of my test
I edited all the tests together and talked them through with Ben and he agreed with my preferences. Now, we have narrowed our lens choices to the 24mm, the 50mm and the 85mm for the vast majority of the film.
Following on from my previous post where I talked about maybe using a wide shutter angle during the free-kick scene, I also did a test of this at the same time as my lens tests. But, after the test and talking with Ben and Rosie we actually decided to go in the opposite direction and gor for a 90-degree shutter angle for the majority of the film (I took some persuading). We watched the classic example of a 90-degree shutter angle - Saving Private Ryan (1998) - and I found it to not suit our story.
Tumblr media
Saving Private Ryan's 90-degree shutter angle sequence
My main issue was the way the shutter angle exacerbated camera shakes, making them stick out far more than at another shutter angle. I felt the film's environment was sterile and controlled, which any camera shake would undermine. However, when Ben and Rosie explained to me how it would better fit Wills emotional state, I came around. Will being hyper-aware and adrenaline fuelled throughout the training session lends itself well to a crisp image, with minimal motion blur, not to mention that audiences are also used to seeing sport shot at higher shutter speeds so it would feel more realistic. On top of this, the idea of sterility and control can be achieved in a multitude of other ways, namely the lighting, production design and lack of handheld camerawork.
Anyways, after these tests, I was in a more informed position to be making some decisions about the look of the film. I had lots of discussions with Ben about the tone which helped me decide on lighting approaches. The realist tone of the film meant that I had to be very motivated with my lighting, making sure it made sense for the world. A lot of the script dictated how I was to light the film which really helped as Ben has such a clear idea of how it needs to feel. One thing that the script specifies is the fact that the session takes place at night, under floodlights. This means that high contrast imagery is necessary for the realism of the space but also contributes well to the intense tone of the story. This also applies to the changing room sequences, where these spaces are almost universally lit top down in real life. Again, this also creates a moody and intense feeling to the lighting, adding shadows to the eyes and neck. This was even something we practiced in class when recreating this shot from Get Out (2017).
Tumblr media
A class exercise
Ben and I also had a big brainstorming session about how we could draw out the themes and ideas of the film.
Tumblr media
Big scribbles, wee ideas
To expand on these small scribbles, this is how I see us exploring these themes:
The Pressure we feel comes from the stark, high contrast lighting and slowly lengthening lenses throughout the course of the film. As Will feels more pressure, we zoom in, making each action more specific and weighty. Another aspect of this is that the scenes at the football club will be shot at a 90-degree shutter angle to minimise motion-blur, allowing the audience to feel the adrenaline-fueled hyper-awareness of our main character. He can’t miss a thing, so he doesn’t.
The Religion of our main character is football. We want to show how someone can become dependent on a culture and how when this culture is harmful how hard it is to extricate oneself from it. This is primarily communicated through the bedroom scenes that bookend the film, where Will sits in his bedroom that is adorned with football memorabilia. I want to shoot these two scenes in a way that changes the meaning of the room. We begin with a brightly-lit, colourful space with multiple practical lights, shot on wide lenses, letting us soak it all in. But, when we return, the room feels suffocating, shot on longer lenses, compressing the space and it is lit by a single light in the corner, giving it a sad, gloomy feel.
Pragmatism is an idea implanted in Will by the coach. Instead of feeling that he can take on the world if he tries hard enough, he is left feeling that he is doomed to fail. So where before we would move the camera alongside Will, now we are locked off. His mobility has been cut off.
The Hierarchy between Will and Graham is a simple matter of eyelines. We look up at Graham and, when Will is feeling small, we look down on him.
Most of this went into the final pitch deck (minus of course the jib motion as we realised we didn't have the equipment to pull this off). It also allowed Ben to fully communicate what he wanted to explore with the film. I then wrote down everything I liked in my little scramble document, here's an excerpt:
Tumblr media
Scrapbookin
At this point, we needed to focus on our pitch deck and presentation which was a useful exercise not just to practice pitching but also to collate all the research and clearly define the approach to the cinematography. I will post the pitch deck next as a summary of the research I have been doing.

Large-Language Models and [Bleh]
I wanted to take a stab at understanding why LLMs have a tendency to output word soup. [Word Soup] is the creation of sentences, paragraphs, and entire articles as if the LLM was using [AutoComplete] like in your mobile device. As if it were playing [Let AutoComplete finish your sentence for you]. Like ppl on social media tend to play.
There's been analysis of the word output by authors, editors, and software developers that have suggested a few things. The first is that the LLMs tend to pull up a writer's template first. Something like [The Hero's Journey] or a [Style Guide] that gives a set of rules on how to write a professional looking and sounding document.
The output of the LLM matches about what you'd expect from a novice author or writer filling in those blanks. The idea is that; if the template says "You NEED to fill in these blanks." Then the LLM will fill in those blanks; even after it runs out of data doing so.
Essentially using [AutoComplete] rules after it runs out of information that matches. There's not something that says; "We can't fill in these blanks, we've run out of correlating data" it says "Go find the next set of closest correlating data to finish." Which might have a probability of like 10% of being correlated at all.
This mimics exactly what we'd expect from your typical search engine; which returns a list of data based on what the search engine expects the users are really trying to find. With the highest probability of being "correct" being at the top of the search results. At page 3+ being not as high as what was on the first page.
This is part of the reason why there's a skill-gap in how we think LLMs should work for your average user; and experienced individuals who know more accurately how the LLMs "think".
Because like a search engine; tailoring your search query will return results closer to what you're looking for in the case that it doesn't return what you were expecting at all.
This also means that Novices using an LLM should have an idea for what they're using it for. It can reliably return a website you're expecting; but if you're looking for a StackOverflow from several years ago (because every modern post is closed for being a [Duplicate Question] without referring to said duplicate) you need to know how to search approximate dates, expected key terms and hashtags.
I'd personally prefer something that returns a Wikipedia entry with further results to peruse. But I can see where there's demand for the "Give me what I want NOW." Veruca Salt type queries.
Honestly; Should the LLM return customized content as if it really did know everything? Because we tried that with Alexa "Here's what I found: [Thing tangentially related to the thing you asked about]."
I dunno.

hopscotch, dried paint brush, playground equipment | theo, marisol, owen, alexa!
@gerrykecy
theo
hopscotch — does your muse like to work out? if not, how else do they move their body from day to day?
they do! they like the routine. they have a morning routine (mostly like cardio or training depending on where they are in their mental cycle) and an evening routine (more like yoga/flexibility stuff, and also sometimes reflex-y stuff). in addition, they typically do something as part of their disguise. their current iteration of self goes to barre.
dried paint brush — how creative is your muse? do they create anything with said creativity or are they considered ‘wasted potential’?
they're not super creative but they like the routine of stuff like knitting or crocheting. like they can't develop their own pattern but they are absolutely diligent when it comes to completing a project based on a pattern. perfectly even stitches etc. they're a paint-by-numbers kind of person.
playground equipment — what’s a childhood memory, whether it’s liked or not, that stands out to your muse? why does it stand out among the rest?
because the prompt said playground, the memory that comes to mind is of them in high school with their first boyfriend on the elementary school playground at night and they had sorta hoisted themself up on top of the monkey bars and he was on a swing and they were just sort of talking. i think it was one of the few times in theo's life where they felt like they were normal????
Tumblr media
marisol
hopscotch — does your muse like to work out? if not, how else do they move their body from day to day?
she does a little like...light cardio? a morning jog? and she's just generally active (walking/biking places, etc.) and she's done cycling classes when she has some extra money.
dried paint brush — how creative is your muse? do they create anything with said creativity or are they considered ‘wasted potential’?
super creative! marisol has a great eye for design and things like that. she does think her skills are wasted but tbh i cannot imagine what she would be doing that would a) not feel like a waste and also b) not feel like too much work.
playground equipment — what’s a childhood memory, whether it’s liked or not, that stands out to your muse? why does it stand out among the rest?
i think being at a ball or royal part of some sort and it being the first time she fully did her own outfit (before that, she'd been choosing from, like, a list provided to her--this time she worked with a designer) and just like, having people stare at her as she walked in, and the warring feeling of some people staring in admiration and others staring in disdain...just a weird feeling. because it was the first time she'd picked the appearance and planned her entrance herself and having such a mixed result was just strange.
Tumblr media
owen
hopscotch — does your muse like to work out? if not, how else do they move their body from day to day?
not really! he does go on bike rides (he cannot afford a car so he bikes everywhere) but he doesn't like to work out and doesn't have a routine to do so.
dried paint brush — how creative is your muse? do they create anything with said creativity or are they considered ‘wasted potential’?
super creative and artistic! hence the wanting to be an architect. he draws well (his preferred media are charcoal pencil, watercolor pencil, or ink depending what he's trying to do). he does sometimes do things but because it's a hard industry to break into he doesn't do as much as he would maybe like, and then he gets into funks.
playground equipment — what’s a childhood memory, whether it’s liked or not, that stands out to your muse? why does it stand out among the rest?
ooof. i think maybe it was with a foster family, and they were going on a skiing/snowboarding vacation and it was the first time he'd ever seen snow before so he was like "whoaaa!!!!" i think it stands out because, like, if you've never seen snow in real life before, it's pretty wild. ice just falls from the sky and it's super chill and honestly kind of magical.
Tumblr media
alexa
hopscotch — does your muse like to work out? if not, how else do they move their body from day to day?
she does! she used to be an athlete from childhood through college, and though she's slowed down, she still keeps up some of those habits. she runs every day and she goes to zumba classes or pilates or something like that depending on what fits with her schedule. she loves it.
dried paint brush — how creative is your muse? do they create anything with said creativity or are they considered ‘wasted potential’?
she's creative! her main genre of writing is creative nonfiction but she does clearly do some poetry too. it's not her plan for it to be a waste but....there is always that fear, right?
playground equipment — what’s a childhood memory, whether it’s liked or not, that stands out to your muse? why does it stand out among the rest?
she remembers hiding out in her treehouse with dean and the two of them were lying out their backs looking up at the roof of their treehouse (which was like, kinda janky so they could see through it) and then it started to rain and they had to scramble/race back to the house and by the time they got inside they were both soaked and inexplicably muddy and they got in quite a lot of trouble for that for reasons she doesn't fully remember.

・❥・Ivy was an only child, raised in Manhattan on the Upper West Side and born into a luxurious life bountiful with fame and fortune. From a young age, she was surrounded by expensive material items, lavish parties, shallow rich people, drugs and alcohol, so these things were normalized to her by default. Her mother frequently traveled abroad as a successful model and actress, encouraging Ivy to be in “the industry” almost immediately as a child and neglecting her emotional needs in favor of “work”. In the meantime, Ivy’s father was an “investor and entrepreneur” of sorts, spending most of his time away from home, traveling and attending meetings with whatever unsavory characters beckoned him that day. Growing up, her parents were never present and spent almost all of their time doing anything but being there for their daughter. She was estranged from her peers, feeling detached and hopeless, as though she could never relate to anyone or trust them with the truth about her life behind closed doors. Luckily for her, she had all the money and resources in the world at her fingertips to fill the emptiness that was left behind.
Tumblr media
◦•◦❈ trope ❈◦•◦
・❥・Appearing elegant, aloof and unapproachable, Ivy has always been an it-girl everywhere she went– it came with the territory of being born into fame and fortune. She was naturally confident and charismatic, immediately attracting attention everywhere she went. This was not only because of her beauty and luxurious, obviously expensive clothing and jewelry, but because of her inherent ability to carry herself with immeasurable poise and grace. She was raised to believe there was no option to present herself as anything other than perfect. Her emotional development was extremely stunted due to her parents' emotional unavailability and constant absence, minus her “friends” who mostly just cared about the shallow parts of their friendship.
・❥・Being pretty much raised by herself, nannies, and “the industry”, Ivy was forced to grow up rapidly in a tumultuous environment that promoted artificiality and dishonesty. She learned to value material items over everything else in her life in order to protect herself from being vulnerable, with the constant threat of crumbling under the pressure looming over her head. Still, that was better than being vulnerable and being exposed for the unstable, lonely, secret-filled person she truly was. Because of this, some people tended to think she could come off as pretentious, judgmental and flashy. Despite their presumptions, there was still an air of mystery about her that people couldn’t deny, though they would be wary of trying to get close to her, as she was also known to be somewhat snappy.
・❥・Deep down, she just wants to know others and be known beyond the surface level. She felt as though even though people were constantly looking at her, they weren’t truly seeing her. That made her even more defensive and inclined to simply cave into what people wanted her to be or thought she was, instead of revealing the parts of her that people might actually be able to empathize with. Since she’s come to Ogden College, her shell has slowly been chipping away as she navigates the community with the hopes of finding people she can actually connect to and form meaningful relationships with.

◦•◦❈ greer ❈◦•◦
・❥・Former roommate and “rival”. They grew up together in Manhattan and competed to run every preppy, gossip-filled school they attended. Because they both wanted to be the one and only wealthy, beautiful queen everywhere they went, they found themselves constantly at each other’s throats. Even with Ivy being a year older, Greer usually managed to keep up. Deep down, the two of them knew how similar they were and they hated themselves for it. Their matching pride and egos kept them from any potential of being the true friends they should’ve been.
