anyway i started watching the xfiles because im gonna make a spooky mystery comic and i figured i better watch THE spooky mystery show (that isnt twin peaks) and yeah it helped and was enjoyable for the first few seasons. i really liked it.
but something happened somewhere in the middle. and it became way more entertaining just watching the show kinda melt before my eyes. i dont know that ive seen a show where the creator just. wholly misunderstands what makes his show work or why it appeals it people this much. like fundamentally on every level. on a molecular level even. its fascinating.
#and the PURPLE PROSE VO MONOLOGUES my GOD#'huh wonder why he hasnt made anything since the old xfiles'#'sure he was bad then but maybe over ti-...oh... no...'#Alien Science™#*vomits*

First off, incredible video, it was extremely Jibun-wo to see digimon make the cut! That being said, I gotta know, would Dandadan have made top 10 if it hadn't come out past the cut off point? It feels like such a slam dunk
Aha okay I am happy someone asked me about this.
So. If I am being dead honest with you? If I am being a trillion percent real? Even if it came out three years ago, Dandadan would probably not make the list, and if it was on it it'd be pretty low. Like high 90s maybe.
I did a temperature check with Amy just to see if I was crazy after watching it a few times and she came to the came conclusion I did: The Creepy Nuts song absolutely slaps and is insanely catchy. No surprise there, it's Creepy Nuts, they're awesome and you should check out their stuff.
Watch this little clip of them in real time. The way their bodies flow as they perform (see 0:37) is mesmerizing. I love it.
youtube
That being said, I think Dandadan's visuals are just Pretty Good™.
Most of the shots are flat pop art colors with A Weird Creature on them and big text. It's not bad, but it's also not exceptional and it doesn't tell me a lot about the series. Speaking as someone who hasn't watched Dandadan and doesn't know what it's about, I'm still not really sure! Seems like the glasses boy... can transform into a Creature? And they fight... aliens? So it's like Kaiju No. 8, maybe? Looks like a shonen. That's all I got. Speaking as an outsider, it doesn't really have any kind of thematic hook or solid show pitch.
BRIGHT COLOR + BIG TEXT is a current trend in, like, Netflix openings that I'm not a huge fan of. It's a lot of POP but not a lot of substance, if that makes sense.
There are some shots where the stylization hits harder than others. Big fan of the song credit in this one. It's creepy and weird in a hypnotizing sort of way.
The rest of the shots in this style with monsters just make me think "Oh, ok. There's monsters? What makes these monsters cool or unique?" And the opening doesn't really answer that question, which I think is an issue when a solid third of your OP is just shots of the monsters.
I should say, I loooove that slow part in the middle of the song. But I mostly like it because of the song, the visuals aren't really doing anything for me.
It doesn't help my opinion of the OP that this shot with the girl wiggling her hand around is the one that shows up in all the Top 100 lists and New Anime OP quizzes. I think this motion is a few frames short of looking good, tbh.
If I had to guess, this is because this show is made by Science Saru. They make lots of cool weird shit like Lu Over the Wall and The Night is Short, Walk On Girl and their style is a mixture of high-effort anime with wild, almost rubberhosey western animation influences. They also did Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, which I think looks gorgeous. I also think you can absolutely tell it's the same studio if you watch both OPs side by side.
youtube
Oh hey, look at that. A Netflix OP with big thick text over bright pop art colors with traditional media textures overlaid on top of it.
Science Saru is an incredibly talented studio and they're much more artistically daring than most of their colleagues, but I think they're at their best when they get to work with a very unique artstyle, like the ones you see in Walk on Girl and Scott Pilgrim. The Dandadan characters being closer to "regular" anime proportions doesn't work as well with their slightly more staggered style (i.e. the money shot of the girl moving her arm with a low frame count).
If you ask me? I think these OPs are pretty close in quality to each other. Both quite good, neither quite exceptional. Dandadan is better though, mostly because the Creepy Nuts song is so good.
I think that's where most of the hype for this opening is coming from. Creepy Nuts is at the height of their popularity in the anime community right now. Anime fans got a taste of them with Call of the Night, a series named after one of their songs, and people loved that opening but it didn't "pop off". Then Mashle came and it went megaviral. Everyone loves the second Mashle opening because everything about it slaps. It's so good. It also shows you a lot about the character of the protagonist and the show itself. The way Muscle Mob stays unflappable no matter what happens and the way his friends react to his antics show off the show's gimmick (One Punch Man at Hogwarts) very well, and it shows the dynamic he has with the rest of the cast. He doesn't give a shit. It looks kinda funny. Plus the way they use the character face tattoos to accent different shots is inspired. Very cool!
I've heard pretty universally that Mashle is kind of a bad show. But do you know how many people I know were tricked into trying it because of that opening? Its like seven of them. That's some wild advertising power. Sure, Mashle doesn't have a lot going on, but the opening pitches what it does have so well that you can't help be a little bit interested in checking it out.
Dandadan just doesn't really do that for me. I look at it and I think "Oh, okay. Cool Creepy Nuts song."
I think a large amount of Dandadan's popularity as an opening is just that people are excited for more Creepy Nuts. They were relatively unknown (at least in the west) by the time Call of the Night came out and lots of artists only do one anime opening and never touch the medium again. Mashle was a sidewinder. It came out of nowhere and proved that Creepy Nuts were not only willing to do more openings, but they were willing to crush it every time. Both of the shows they did songs for have GOAT openings.
Then it was announced fuckin' Science Saru was adapting Dandadan and the NUT BOYS were gonna be returning to do the opening? Everyone was so hyped for it. And guess what! It was really cool! They did it, yet another cool opening. They set expectations and met them pretty well while they were directly in the middle of the public eye, and I'm so happy for Creepy Nuts, I hope they make fuckin' millions off this because they deserve it.
But! I don't think the Dandadan OP has the spice the other two openings they worked on do.
Call of the Night is an incredible opening. Cool dynamic between the main two characters with evocative visuals from start to finish. The psychic vampire bite? The film-making language and clackerboard? So much fun. Diagetic lyrics. A fake-out pause in the middle of the song. Half the shots are upside down and they did it on purpose. It's a great execution of a cool artistic vision. Legit one of the strongest OPs ever made.
Mashle season two comes out. Incredible opening. Sick urban street punk rapper flare to it. The characters walk in front of graffiti, the protagonist raps about how his haters have nothing on him and he can kick everyone's ass just because he's the best. Animation that far outstrips the stuff present in the actual show. Cool artistic vision, hella execution.
Dandadan is like a pretty cool 2020s opening that happens to have a Creepy Nuts song, and you get the sense the studio was told "Hey, Mashle's second opening has like 80 million views on YouTube. We got Creepy Nuts. Do that, please." And they did! It's a similar mix of bright colors, rap, and mixed media. Mashle has grafitti, Dandadan has the texture of spray paint stencils. Looks cool! Kinda looks like Mashle, but weirder and more abstract. And that's fine! Is it list material? Ehhhh. Is it Top 10 material like some comments are claiming? Abso-lutely not. Absolutely creepy nots.
In terms of VMCTJ, the Dandadan opening has S-tier music and above-average visuals and credits. I think the theming is middle-of-the-road and there honestly aren't any Jennies for me at all. Amy and I have sort of trained ourselves so that any OP where the music does most of the heavy lifting kind of gets put on the backfoot right away, because nothing shoots an opening to popularity like a fuck jam and you need to be wary of that when judging them all on the same criteria.
So anyways, yeah! Dandadan is pretty good. I'd hesitate to lock it in anywhere in the Top 100, but I think my gut would place it somewhere between like... 160-140. That's still REALLY good, but I do have to think at least some of the comments asking about it on Patreon and YouTube are fueled at least in part by a love for Creepy Nuts and more than a bit of recency bias.
Hope that answers your question, lmao

SpookGames is recruiting!
If you’re an aspiring artist dreaming of making your own character designs for video games, you’ve undoubtedly heard of our company before. We’ve made classics such as Spooktacular Extravaganza and Once Upon a Spook. Who hasn’t spent hours in those games?! This is the opportunity of a lifetime to get your foot in the door of the gaming industry!
To apply, please fill up the form linked above and attach your portfolio.
Now, we don’t want your old and dusty art. No, no, no. Since we’re a game company, we’ve decided to make it a little more fun than that. Each answer you give in the form should be your prompt to create a character! This way, we get to know your personality and your creative talent all in one fell swoop! (And we will not be arbitrarily judging your answers as ways to extrapolate how this would translate in the workplace and throw away your application should we dislike said answers. Though we welcome essay-andying your answers to explain why it should get you the job.)
As you've surely noticed, there are 31 questions to fill out. You do not need to create a character for all of them (but you certainly can if you wish to!). We ask for a minimum of three designs to whichever prompts inspire you most.
Having doubts about applying? There are many advantages to working at SG! Such as:
Meager pay below industry standard; unpaid overtime; no sick leave; no vacation for the first 3 years; a boss who only cares about margin profits; mandatory team-building exercices every weekend; no promotion for the first 20 years; no private life allowed; SG will be your new family so make sure to ditch the old one!
Apply now, what are you waiting for! You have from now until October 31st to send in your application through either using the tag #spookapplication OR tagging us @radioactivedotcom !
Psst, by the way, don’t worry about about doing better than the other applicants. The CEO’s nephew is the one getting the job, he'll get a promotion after three months.
Yes, all this just for a CAS challenge! Listen, I wanted to have fun. You don’t have to roleplay in order to participate, you can just make your cute little simmies and hit post, no pressure whatsoever. But I certainly ain’t stopping you if you did want to roleplay. winkwink.

hey so i’m new to the community fandom and i really love trobed. i was wondering what was your trobed centric episode masterlist like? or if it’s possible, is there a way to send me the post? sorry i’m new to tumblr so i’m still learning how this app works. if you see this, thanks :)
hi, welcome! I've found that community tumblr is probably my favorite fandom space I've ever been involved in, and I hope you've had a good experience so far. I totally get the New App Learning Curve thing, I'm historically very shit at learning how to use new apps, even though I'm "young" (20), but I eventually got it and you will too, Trust 👍👍👍
anyway, Yes one of the first things I did on here after joining was make a trobed-centric episode masterlist for someone who was asking lmfao. since it was one of the First things I did there's some formatting and other things I'd do differently now, and I've actually been looking for an excuse to go ahead and get that done, so. here we go.
the trobed-centric episode masterlist (revamped)
1x05: advanced criminal law
plot B
abed takes the "friends mess with each other" rule too far; he creates a whole fake language and spends a lot of money on trying to convince troy that he is an alien
"from now on, abed, friends don't mess with each other"
(this is the first time they do their signature handshake)
1/5 gayness, pretty platonic
1x10: environmental science
plot B
it's the "somewhere out there" episode what more do I need to say
3/5 gayness, something's happening fs
1x11: the politics of human sexuality
plot C
abed keeps beating troy in athletic competitions, making troy feel threatened. he eventually admits that abed is the better athlete and they make up
2/5 gayness, pretty platonic but it has its moments
1x22: the art of discourse
plot C
troy and abed work to complete abed's list of quintessential freshman year of college experiences list
2/5 gayness, they repeatedly put completing the list above looking cool in front of women
1x25: pascal's triangle revisited
plot C
troy is moving out of his dad's house and wants to move in with abed, but abed says no because he's afraid being that close and spending that much time together will result in constant annoyance, and will destroy their friendship
troy realizes that "too much of a good thing can be bad" and instead agrees to move in with pierce
1/5 gayness
2x02: accounting for lawyers
part of plot A
jeff gets sucked back into his old life as he reconnects with alan, a coworker from his old law firm. troy, abed, and annie try to gather proof that jeff's friend is the one who got him fired in the first place
more trobedison centric, and is actually the first episode where the three of them are established as a Trio™
"all I heard was suck" "YOU CHLOROFORMED THE JANITOR" "I usually have one foot out of reality and even I'm freaking out right now"
1/5 gayness, pretty platonic. they're the sillies ever I love trobedison
2x06: epidemiology
part of plot A
it's the zombie episode, come ON
trobed have coordinating costumes but troy bails during the party because he doesn't want to look lame and nerdy in front of women, which hurts abed's feelings
abed sacrifices himself to save troy once they are the last two standing during the "rabies pathogen" breakout
"I love you" "I know" (oh my GODDD sedate me)
5/5 gayness. you get it.
2x09: conspiracy theories and interior design
plot B
the original blanket fort 💯💯💯
2/5 gayness, just guys bein silly (and in love???)
2x15: early 21st century romanticism
plot B
troy and abed fall for the same girl and decide to take her to the valentine's dance together, after which she can decide which one of them she wants to date
she picks troy, but troy gets upset that she didn't pick abed (because why wouldn't she pick abed, he's so cool) and breaks it off almost immediately
I"happy valentine's day" "it is now"
5/5 gayness jesus christ this one is INSANE
2x18: custody law and eastern european diplomacy
plot B
britta likes troy and abed's new friend, lukka, who she finds out is a literal war criminal. she keeps this information from troy and abed because she doesn't want to ruin their friendship with him, but they find out eventually
2/5 gayness they're attached at the hip in this one
2x19: critical film studies
random moments
this episode is more focused on jeff and abed, but there's a lot of classic Troy Gets Jealous™ moments so I decided to include it. plus the end tag is them randomly having dinner together at the fancy restaurant (a date 😔)
basically troy is afraid that jeff is a cooler friend to abed than him
3/5 gayness even though they barely interact, troy is so silly
2x20: competitive wine tasting
part of plot B
I almost didn't include this one, and it's not even on my original list, but whatever
troy pretends to be traumatized, originally to seem less shallow in his acting class, but he keeps it going in order to attract britta. he tells abed about it and abed Does Not Like That At All
"troy. nothing good can come of this"
I wouldn't call abed being jealous a Rare Occurrence but he generally conceals it way better than troy does
2/5 gayness, could be interpreted as abed just worried about relationships forming under false pretense, but to Me he's jealous
2x22: applied anthropology and culinary arts
plot C
pierce buys the rights to troy and abed's handshake (a la Indecent Proposal) which "corrupts" it
"pierce tainted our special handshake with his blood money and now we can't get the magic baaaack :((((("
eventually they do indeed get the magic back
3/5 gayness idk there's something about the way they interact in this one that is inexplicably gay to me lmao
3x01: biology 101
plot C plus random moments
"speaking of figuring things out, me and abed have an announcement" "..." "troy and I are living together :D"
cougartown gets moved to midseason, then cougarton abbey ends after 6 episodes, abed's routine keeps getting thrown off, and troy is just extremely supportive and protective throughout
4/5 gayness troy loves him a lot!!!!!!
3x03: remedial chaos theory
random moments
(I know this ep is listed as 3x04 on streaming services but in canon it takes place here and on the dvds it's listed as 3x03. there's a joke about it in the episode too if you didn't know. anyway)
"troy and abed's new apartment!!!" "bienvenido a la casa chez trobed!" "wanna stay up all night talking in our bunk beds?"
all their pictures on the wall and their matching suits lol
the end tag "evil troy and evil abed" & troy's soft "what's wrong :("
3/5 gayness they're lowkey married your honor
3x05: horror fiction in seven spooky steps
random moments
troy's whole story he tells where they Literally become attached at the hip
"my partner"
troy dancing while abed's humming daybreak
2/5 gayness
3x06: advanced gay
plot B
troy deciding whether he wants to do plumbing or air conditioning and deciding all he really wants to do is watch tv with abed
gay symbolism? gay symbolism? gay symbolism?
4/5 gayness mostly for the conversation at the hawthorne wipes gathering. I could write an essay on just that
3x07: studies in modern movement
plot A
annie moves in with troy and abed. very trobedison centric
"kiss me woodsman troy!"
3/5 gayness once again casually in love they're soulmates your honor
3x09: foosball and nocturnal vigilantism
plot B
annie breaks abed's $200 special edition dark knight dvd set on accident, trobedison shenanigans ensue yippee!!!
"awww is that the grappling hook I got you for christmas???"
3/5 gayness for the same reasons as before
3x10: regional holiday music
part of plot A
literally putting this on here just because of the christmas infiltration rap (and baby boomer santa)
3/5 gayness it's glee club what can you do
3x11: contemporary impressionists
plot A
(once again, I know this episode is listed as 3x12 on streaming services, but in canon it's supposed to chronologically be here, and is listed as 3x11 on the dvds)
the study group helps abed pay off his debts to a celebrity impersonator website by playing characters at a bar mitzvah (after troy scolds them for trying to ground abed in reality)
they have an argument at the end ugh
3/5 gayness troy loves abed a lot and abed doesn't realize that he's doing something wrong
3x12: urban matrimony and the sandwich arts
plot C
(see the above disclaimer about episode order)
troy and abed decide to be normal for shirley's wedding rehearsal
troy and abed being normal 🤝
4/5 gayness they blow off a girl to be weird again
3x13: digital exploration of interior design
plot C
blanket fort: redux (oh god)
vice dean laybourne escalates what started as a minor disagreement in order to drive a wedge between troy and abed. it works
5/5 gayness, if a sitcom doesn't have the two codependent fanonical gays go through an unnecessarily dramatic "break up" then I don’t want it
3x14: pillows and blankets
plot A
🎶troy and abed are in conflict🎶 *cries*
pillow fort vs. blanket fort
they eventually make up but not before they hurt each others' feelings a Lot
5/5 gayness the dramatics jesus christ
3x16: virtual systems analysis
random moments
so this episode is more focused on abed and annie, and troy and abed actually don't Technically interact with each other very much at all, but. you know
abed kinda freaks out when troy and britta go on a date because it "messes with the fabric of the group" ( I know what you are)
troy calls annie to "check on abed" boy you are on a date with a woman
4/5 gayness just from subtext you get it
3x17: basic lupine urology
random moments
troy and abed play detective as they try to figure out who sabotaged the group's biology project
"we can't both do the zinger"
4/5 gayness no explanation
3x19: curriculum unavailable
random moments
the study group is expelled from greendale and abed gets arrested for spying on campus, so he's supposed to have a psychological evaluation
troy is just very protective of him in this episode, plus the flashback clip where he and Annie are comforting him as he's freaking out about daylight savings
"our adventures are VERY manly"
4/5 gayness
3x21: the first chang dynasty
random moments
oof baboof with you two! (all the plumber shenanigans are hilarious)
mostly putting this one on here for the goodbye scene at the end of the episode, though. god
"he said, 'I know you hate when people do this in movies.' sorry I got emotional"
3x22: introduction to finality
plot B
abed "goes crazy" without troy (who's off at a/c repair school)
when troy comes back he prioritizes abed over britta (who he supposedly has romantic feelings for)
"I miss abed so much" "you're afraid you'll go crazy without troy"
4/5 gayness one could say they're a little codependent
4x03: conventions of space and time
plot A
troy gets jealous of (read: goes "psycho girlfriend on") abed's new inspector spacetime superfan friend toby
britta, even as troy's literal girlfriend, calls abed troy's boyfriend and supports troy through the whole thing
"for the first time in my long history of being locked inside things, I knew someone would come" let me just put my head through my wall really quick
5/5 gayness even though troy has a whole gf. that's how gay this episode is
4x11: basic human anatomy
plot A
troy and abed pretend to switch bodies, like in freaky friday, in order to help troy process his feelings about his relationship with britta
5/5 gayness holy SHIT y'all. I could write thousands of words on this episode. it is so hard to justify troy's actions in this one without reading him as a closeted gay person not lying
5x03: basic intergluteal numismatics
random moments
including this one because of how abed comforts troy and pushes him around in a wheelchair for the entire episode
3/5 gayness it's the casual married-ness again smh
5x04: cooperative polygraphy
random moments
this is another one I didn't include on my original list but I decided fuck it
the bit uncovering the actual origin of their patented handshake is so funny "I can't even look at you right now" "then you should know I'm crying"
also just the. look on abed's face when troy agrees to go on the trip at the end. "cool. cool cool cool." "that's a lie" UGHHHHH
4/5 gayness again. so typical
5x05: geothermal escapism
plot A
do I need to say a word
ouch ouch ouch OUCH
5/5 gayness especially the deleted dialogue from the last scene (I've posted it before but lmk if you don't know what I'm talking about. disclaimer it makes me want to launch myself off the empire state building)
alright. there it is folks. I was going to make another subsection of other random iconic trobed moments and cite the episodes they're from but basically every single episode has at least one, so that list would be Way too long to qualify as a supplement to this one lmao. however! if you have a Trobed Moment™ stuck in your head (or any Moment for that matter) and you can't remember which episode it's from feel free to ask me, I'm confident that my internal community database will be able to Remind You. anyway. hope this was helpful. bye
#did this instead of my heaps of missing homework assignments#I completely overbooked myself this semester but It's Fine haha#anyway#community#nbc community#community nbc#abed nadir#troy barnes#trobed#troy and abed#community tv#community encyclopedia

Alright I'm back after stewing on this ridiculous AU idea that I had yesterday.
(I will preface this entire thing with: I like to watch TV while crafting, and I was watching Doctor Who. I realized that Matt Smith as the Doctor (Post-Ponds) gives me SO MUCH of a Gale Dekarios vibe Especially in the wine colored long coat
Also I was very active on the internet during the SuperWhoLock days so please, bear with me, I am old and this dog goes not learn new tricks easily.
So naturally.... I bring you my AU idea:
"Doctor Who?" - "Doctor Dekarios!"
AU where Gale Dekarios is actually the Doctor.
Maybe he gave up his life as a timelord, maybe he was defeated and cast into another dimension, maybe he was cursed, maybe he just happened upon a swarm of mindflayers, who really knows - not me, but I'll get there!
The TARDIS, but now as a talking, sassy cat. (It’s Taaaraaaaa!)
They’re stuck in Faerun, in Waterdeep, but he’s brilliant and becomes known as a Wizard.
‘Oh alright,” he mumbles to himself, deciding that if the people want a Wizard, he will be one. He can’t leave anyway, so he may as well learn some things.
Mystra takes notice. Oh, does she notice. A man with two hearts? A man with knowledge of time and space outside of the very limited bits that the people of Faerun are aware of? She’s more than aware. Maybe she decides to trick him, maybe she’s genuinely intrigued, at first, and he loves a challenge. He decides to play her game.
SPOILER ALERT: he loses. And he’s then cast aside. And what does the Doctor hate??? ENDINGS.
Mystra ends things with him when he fails to beat her at her own game. Maybe the Orb(™) is just a manifestation of his hearts growing bitter, maybe its a curse, maybe we leave it as is. The Doctor is rather quite proud of his smarts, of his brain, I wouldn’t put it past him to actually attempt to find the piece of weave just to show her that he can. Okay so maybe he does attempt to give her the missing piece of weave and gets the orb I mean it would be pretty on brand regardless
Gale Doctor is COCKY, okay?
So he decides, fine, I’ll do what I do best, I’ll adventure. And now he has all kinds of new skills, so he’ll be…he’ll be fine, right?
RIGHT. Until… until wrong, actually. The mindflayers got him. And what an interesting find, a man with two hearts, a new science experiment, if you will.
He escapes, getting stuck in the sigil, because let’s be frank, that’s definitely a Doctor-style conundrum(™)
And then … her. Tav. (should I call her tav? Should I call her by my tav’s name? Probably going to stick w my tav’s name, she's called Saoirse and she's a mess)
She pulls him out of his own doom, as so many companions have in the past. As so many have, and so many will. And now… he knows he has to stop them. He has to save the world, he’s the Doctor, it’s what he does, he’s the saver and destroyer of worlds, so he has to save them, it’s like he’s obligated
She introduces herself, first apprehensively, then assertively, and his mind is reeling so he tells her that he’s the doctor, and she asks the age old, typical question.
“Doctor Who?”
“Doctor Dekarios!”
And he is just … captivated by her. She’s headstrong, and sassy. She’s unimpressed by his ramblings, but she’s so very kind. And we all know that the Doctor is very kind. Couldn't leave well enough alone on a stranded spaceship because a child was crying.
He knows not to say anything about his … condition. The orb, the two hearts, the alien bit. Can’t gain trust when you’re immediately a threat, and anything alien could potentially be illithid and he knows he can’t tell her anything.
They meet others, and he knows that he’s still the strangest one of all of them, even counting the Githyanki warrior that somehow scares the pants off of him.
He knows that she knows that something’s off. He starts keeping more to himself. His old bones ache and his blood feels like shards of glass in his body and his hearts can’t keep up anymore. And she’s so gentle with him, the man that she teases for being old. If she only knew.
He grips his hair in his hands, wondering what would happen first. The mindflayer transformation, or the implosion. The world ending bloody, or the world ending with a big bang. How funny that this world would end in a big bang.
And she sits with him. And holds his hand. Massages his hands when they’re stiff and sore. Makes him a salve from herbs that they find, to massage into his joints. For arthritis. As if timelords could have arthritis. No, he knows, it’s not his exceedingly old age. It’s not the centuries of life that are burning through his cells, it’s not even the silly parasite in his brain or the countless experiments that were done on him before he went and got himself stuck in a sigil, it’s Mystra, and her injured pride, and the fact that she refused to just let him go. She’d been enthralled with stories of adventure, tales of worlds and universes that he’s visited and saved, and all of that in return for small pieces of magic. Pieces that he made into his own, pieces that he formed to his personality, because science isn’t there yet in Faerun.
If she couldn’t keep him, nobody could. Typical otherworldly deity nonsense. And he had known better. He knew not to get involved, not to allow her or anyone else to grip his attention so forcefully, not to allow himself the easy entertainment that came with silly gods from other universes, and yet here he was.
There was no saving him from this. Not conceivably. He could find some magic crown and return it, and she would let him go. No she wouldn’t. He knew it would be a fight to the end.
And fight they did, against cultists, against possessed shadows, against gods. And then… and then, despite himself, despite his own attempts to be isolated and not notice things and be normal like a human being he finds himself… yearning.
She’s delicate with him, and kind. But she takes none of his nonsense, and she’s more than willing to stand toe to toe with him and challenge everything that he knows about everything and suddenly he’s yearning and pining like a child and it’s all very embarrassing and he knows that he has to tell her something. He has to tell her because she won’t be angry with him like everyone else would be.
So he calls her over, and opens up an old memory bank, and shows her… everything, under the stars. His past, his present, his truth. And she….doesn’t run. She doesn’t even really mind it, because she could already tell that something was off with him, I mean who hangs out in the woods in a purple long coat and he laughs. He genuinely laughs for the first time since he got stuck here in this universe, and his hearts swell and his head spins as she laughs with him, and oh gods he’s falling for her. So he decides, oh, what the hell. He leans closer, just close enough to whisper, and says the silly words he’d never planned to say to anyone after the super mega disaster ending that was himself and Mystra and he tells her… “I’m afraid that I’m falling in love with you, which is never something that ends well, for me.”

So semi-creeping in a new fandom after several years of being a largely silent reblog-heavy content factory. Lovely art, a lot of good fic, really passionate, thoughtful meta. But after like six months of lurking I've noticed a continuing trend that's really throwing me for a loop. Say someone posts An Opinion--maybe it's bold or controversial, maybe it's making light of something that was serious in its original context, or maybe it's just their personal reading of the text that veers off-road from the norm--instead of reblogging and starting a discussion, people will just… make their own post to passive aggressively bag on it and tag it for everyone to see.
What??
Having not been actively involved in fandom for a handful of years, I don't know if this is specific to this fandom or if this is just how tumblr operates now on the whole, but it's incredibly off-putting, petulant, and honestly kind of cliquish. Is this legit a thing now or did I just get my claws hooked into a fandom that unfortunately happens to be kind of catty? What happened to the #long post reblog chains that would drive your followers into a state of insanity because they have to scroll through miles of an impassioned back-and-forth debate for a fandom they don't even know?
I'm not saying that anyone has to get into an endless thread of nasty, drama-laced discourse (war flashbacks to the occasional blemishes on my otherwise wonderful time engaging in the Science Testing With Bitchy Robots community, you know her, 2012 fandom you were a real one ✌). But plenty of these posts that are apparently (sometimes bafflingly) ruffling feathers are not from anyone even trying to start shit, they're just viewpoints from other equally invested fans who just happen to headcanon differently. What a prime opportunity to start an engaging discussion about The Thing You Both Like, instead of publicly shaming and alienating another fan, like holy shit what are we doing.
Like if it's to a point where you absolutely can't bear the idea of engaging civilly? Sure, fine, I get it, my tolerance has a limit too. Block button is there, homies, use it and don't spend any more time letting shit that makes you this mad fester and poison your thoughts. Curate your tumblr experience and Free Yourself™
Featured: Me living life to the fullest after blocking someone for having an innocuous but stupid headcanon I didn't care for and never thinking about them again.
I realize the hypocrisy of me talking about how uncool it is to vague blog by vague blogging about the vague blogging, but I'm just so dumbfounded by how much the fandom is normalizing this (also giving myself a pass on this post since I'm not actually tagging it with Fandom In Question for all there to perceive, because I'm not an absolute clown swinging at the hornet's nest with a bat).
It just seems so joyless when your fandom experience is apparently a vacuum sealed echo chamber where if someone deviates from the Fandom Approved Viewpoint, you publicly put them on blast. And let's be real--it's hostile and unwelcoming. I've dipped toes with very light engagement but not dived in full on because it's an environment I'm hesitant to fully subject myself to, even after six months of spectating. As much as I'm well into the hyperfixation hole, mindlessly doodling Art I Hate for A Thing I Love and daydreaming about the blorbos, I have enough stress in my day-to-day that I don't need that bleeding into my escapism hobby. This shit is supposed to be fun, y'all. 😐
#this fandom needs to eat a snickers and chill tf out#maybe join a book club#so they can learn to weather disagreeable interpretations#and have an engaging debate#without wanting to punch someone in the teeth#or just heed the ancient wisdom: just walk out 💀#if it sucks... hit da [block button]#for real tho i am genuinely on the fence about actively engaging

Finished watching the new DMC series and wanted to express my own opinion since a lot of the fanbase is being extremely immature right now.
Overall, I'd give it a solid 7/10.
To get my main gripes with it out of the way:
- Sciencing magic. Not everything needs to be "quantum", it's okay for things to be just magic sometimes XD;
- Demon refugees. I get the analogy they were going for and I'm absolutely down to exploring the theme that both demons and humans can be good or bad, as well as giving a thought to the structure of the Underworld, but even Agni and Rudra with their brotherly goofiness were a better way to do it, than making up "sorta demonish humans™" for the audience to feel bad for. Should have at least made them more monstrous looking, so that finding 'humanity' in someone so alien felt actually shocking;
- Political/social commentary being too "in your face". I'm not against it being a part of the story, but it requires way more subtlety. Including a real world groups and names and modern commentary guarantees that it will quickly get dated, rather than become a tasteful commentary on timeless human issues;
- Pacing. Actually I feel like pacing is a root of most issues I see with writing, where it struggles to really pack maximum exposition and world lore in a couple of first episodes. Which also creates issues with Dante's story being way too public. Leave some privacy for the man XD.
Initially, I was going to add Lady's swearing to the list, but somewhere along the line it grew on me as well as the fact that the cheer volume of swearwords seems exclusive to her 😅. Still I wish they'd space it a bit more, f-bombs loose impact way too quickly and add adolescent kind of edginess that seems a bit out of place.
Now the things I liked:
- Action, animation, combat - all of that. It's pretty and simply fun. CGI looks rough at times, but I can't say I'm bothered by it.
- Characters. As I mentioned in some previous post - it's a dmc-inspired universe, not an adaptation of any game, manga or novel. And so far I like this take on the characters. I want to see where their arcs will go and how they'll change. I like seeing them interact. I liked new reference characters, however little we got with them. Judge is still out on Banes, though, he is too flat currently.
- I liked that Dante (and demons) got nerfed. One of the writing pitfalls of the original material was making the MC into the most powerful character in the entry game. It can work for the game cause despite whatever the lore says, MC still can get his ass beat if you suck at playing. But for the longer continuous story, it's a way more probable failure in the making.
- While I have some issues with it, I still like that Underworld is getting explored.
- I like Lady's new outfit. I like that's it's an armor that helps to compensate for human fragility and limits in comparison to demons. I know it'll change and I want to see how she'll gonna proceed without it.
And there were many more little details that I absolutely loved. Most importantly - I had fun watching it and it makes me interested to see the continuation. I had a genuine blast, binge watching something in a long while.
I certainly have things I wish to see in the next season. Like, while I enjoyed the fact that humans now actually have fangs to bite demons back, I hope next we'll see that this isn't nearly enough to actually resist the real darkness of the Underworld (I mean, roided up bunny man just wiped out their regular forces). I hope we'll get to see that darkness and more about high demons and demon's nature besides "adapted to hostile environment™", lol. I want to see demonic possession. I also want to see calmer moments in the human world, without world at stake. I sure hope we'll get to the theme of tears being a representation of humanity among both humans and demons and the title name drop. I'm fine not getting it now, cause from what I see this was a kind of a set-up season.
#Devil May Cry Netflix#devil may cry#I also wish the rabid part of the fandom would stop scaring away the newcomers and assuring the permanent death of the IP#like I get not liking the new show#it's very different and definitely not everyone's cup of tea#opinions and actual critiques#some memes making fun of some moments#absolutely valid#but making up insults for people that liked the show?#harassing VAs?!#dumping your vitriol under any show positive post?#how are you not ashamed of yourself?#dmc netflix spoilers#devil may cry netflix spoilers

what it means to be human
The common correct definition of the word "human" (according to science anyway) is HOMO
No, not like, gay, (unfortunately). I mean any member of the Homo genus. Homo sapiens, Homo neanderthalensis etc.
Yes, the Neanderthals were human. There used to be many humans. We, the Sapiens, are just the last remaining human species.
But we don't remember a time when this was not the case. So we often conflate "humanity" with "species" with "sapience" with "personhood". (even though just calling ourselves human is the common usage and was also the scientific usage until a century or so ago, but still)
So what is and what isn't human?
This is an issue in my own writing (which is why I wrote this post). Since it's a speculative evolution project, I use the scientific meaning of human, which is to say only ever as a collective term for all the humans. There are many species of human which are people, there are humans and species of humans which are no longer people, and there are people that are not human.
All monsters are inhuman, that is a given regardless of how inhumane they are. Though I feel like "subhuman" has no accurate applications, though. "Human" should not mean superiority.
Unless the monster has human origins like a werewolf or humanimal, etc, in which case they would still be human. But they may no longer be people if they are emotionless, mindless, not self aware.
I don't know if a "soul" is required for personhood, certainly not for humanity. Mindless zombies may be reanimated with a soul, therefore have a soul, but that doesn't make them a person. Vampires usually do not have souls, but surely are still people.
Anything evolutionarily descendant from anything once called a human is still a human, even if they no longer resemble one. Kinda like how all birds are dinosaurs.
I don't know if Pinnochio can become a real human, taxonomy can only be inherited by birth and Pinnochio was not born. But I can say that becoming a real boy can not change the fact that he was already a person. In fact, he was always a real boy as well. Gender and sex and humanity and personhood are of course separate.
Likewise, I'm not sure if human minds uploaded to mechanical or didgital bodies like the All Tomorrows Gravitals or in SOMA cease to be human or not, though I lean towards them losing humanity but not personhood. But most 40k Necrons do lose both personhood and Necrontyr-ity (they weren't humans to begin with but aliens) as they are made into mindless machines. But cyborgs retain humanity if they retain any human flesh.
Elves/Dwarves/Halflings could possibly be humans, depending on if they have some kind of shared origins with us.
Hence why I don't like calling the "Human" """Race""" in fantasy settings "Human", especially if the "humans" in that setting are Just White People™ because then we're normalizing the idea that only Europeans are Humans and that only Humans are people and the obvious logical conclusion to that.
An intelligent self-aware robot capable of all the emotions we have like GLaDOS, AM, etc is not a human, of course not, but it is a person. Not being human makes them no less deserving of life or rights. But, because they are not human, we will surely treat them like objects when they are made. And they may feel the need to act accordingly.
Bottlenose dolphins, which scientists have found to also be sapient, and self-aware, and quite intelligent, and can use tools, even have their own languages and cultures must surely also be people.
But, because dolphins are not human, we have decided they are just animals and their lives and quality of life are worth much less than ours. We can strip their oceans of all value leaving only pollution, deafen and blind them with ship motors, and even kill them without consequence. We don't even have the decency to call what we've done to dolphin pods "peace keeping", let alone war. But it's "crimes against humanity", not "crimes against people".
Say what you will about dolphins, accounts of them raping each other and abusing pufferfish are well known, so they aren't always nice people. But neither are we. Dolphins are also known to save drowning humans and fight off sharks to protect their pods. Doesn't that only prove they also have the same free will we do? Why is it that when we finally acknowledge their humanless personhood, so close to ours, we feel hate and disgust?
If/when we find intelligent aliens, will we do all this again?
And if the aliens or elder gods or whatever it is find us, will they have the same issue? Will they consider Humans underserving of life and land just because we aren't Alien? Will we deserve it?

Some thoughts on Claudia Grays ‘The X files: Perihelion’
**Spoilers ahead**
First off I need to say that I am a certified, card carrying disliker of The X Files Revival, so some of my thoughts on this book may have some negative bias. Canon for me either ends at season 8 or IWTB (depending on the day lol) so I'm just here for the ride and I'm not going to take anything in this novel or in future novels too seriously!
Secondly, I am not a writer. Some of my thoughts may be incoherent and I apologize for that up front, but I feel the need to write down my thoughts so they do not constantly overwhelm my brain….
Hope you enjoy!!
Likes:
Claudia Gray overall does a good job with writing Mulder and Scully, you can tell she loved these characters as much as we do. It was easy for me to hear their voices in my head while reading.
I thought the novel flowed quite nicely. Oftentimes it went from a chapter mostly about the casefile, then to MSR, then to a chapter about the new villain (Brighteyes or Robin Vane), etc. It kept me wanting more, mostly for the MSR but a little for the casefile as well.
I really liked some of the MSR in this novel. Gray did the absolute best job she could do given the shit show she inherited from CC. I tip my cap to her!
My favorite MSR scene in particular was at the end of the book in chapter 39. To keep it brief Mulder and scully talk about WIlliam as THEIR SON once again, and how even though he may not be theirs via natural conception, he is still THEIR SON…. See CC it really isn't that hard is it? The Convo is played as Scully apologizing to Mulder for not wanting to talk about William, but in reality it's an apology to Mulder AND herself for her treatment of William. I mean this is a convo that they should have had years ago, but better late than never I suppose…. I’ll say again Cladia Grey was giving a bag of shit but she made some decent stew out of it.
I actually liked Robin Vane as a “Baddie” although I don't think he is a bad guy. He's morally gray and I will get to take in some of my predictions.
I kinda liked how CSM came back. It's different and unexpected, but I’d rather we no longer hear from him ever again.
Dislikes:
X men plot line, I hate it…. I don't really have anything else to say on this.
Scully's electrical powers. Thats gonna be a no for me dawg
The inheritors, their evil plot for world domination makes no sense. I mean do they even want world domination? I found it all so confusing… So they know that this alien virus is making people into literal X Men yet their plan is, “Hey, they are just going to bend to our will and… make us money or something”... maybe I'm missing something, but this plot felt intentionally vague in order to set up future novels. We will see I guess.
I really hated the “explanation” for Scully's pregnancy. Why does everything need to be Spooky Science ™ …. I guess I wanted this pregnancy to be Mulder and Scully's proof of a higher power, something that can not be explained by science. That to me is FAR more interesting than spooky science ™ ….
I don't want this to sound like a nitpick but I guess it kinda is. I don't like Mulder and Scully living in a townhouse. I like the unremarkable house, it suits them way better. Oh well…
Why for the love of God are they sleeping in separate beds, they do everything a couple is supposed to do yet they can't share a bed? I mean I guess this was done to create a little bit of tension to keep the reader turning the pages, and it worked on me but still, I think at this point we should drop the relationship drama and move on to something else.
Some predictions:
Mulder and Scully will form an uneasy alliance with Robin Vane and Cherish Craddock. This will drive a bit of a wedge between Mulder and Scully, but like everything they will see it through.
The X Men plot line will be resolved at the end of the next novel.
Mulder and Scully's child will be named Rebecca. I don't remember where I read this but apparently Cludia Gray used to write XF fanfic and she wrote a piece in which Mulder and Scullys child was named Rebecca (Pretty name btw.. I like it.)
The child will NOT have supernatural powers (Im probably wrong on this one)
William AND Gibson will show up at some point and help save the day. William will become, at least in part, part of Mulder and Scullys lives.
Skinner will play a pivotal role in the next novel, but he will die at some point… When the stakes are this high someones gotta die. Sorry Skin man…
Final Thoughts:
I've read a few reviews on various websites about this novel and to be honest they are done much better than what I have written down, but I felt compelled to write down my unedited thoughts so I can move on with my life XD.
Overall, I came in expecting I would stop reading a few chapters in but I didn't! I read the whole thing in about 5 sittings. Claudia Gray did the best she could with what she had and I have to give her props! I think this novel is pretty fun! A solid 7/10… Like I said in the beginning, I don't see this or any other future novel as “canon” so I'm just here for the ride, and I think it's going to be an interesting one!
#the x files#mulder and scully#dana scully#fox mulder#msr#The X files perihelion#Not a great novel#but not a bad one either#I really hope we get a sequel#Cuz I'll be there to read it on day one

your subway order total is $19.21
(extra notes below)
ok, so here's the deal with the slight design change! (i swear, it's cool)
i wanted to make chuck latino because i joked about it once (w/ fred stoller being on handy manny saying "my amigos " and then saying his colors look like the flag of colombia 💀) but it stuck for some reason. to me, it works PERFECTLY.... if becky can be an alien who is
"ambiguously brown"
then why can't a sandwich person like chuck also be brown, yknow 🔥⁉️
(help i keep accidentally latinoifying wg characters--)
chuck? nah. he is now, officially
chuck el sandwichero perverso 🥪🇨🇴‼️🔥
(as they call him in the spanish dub aka chica supersabia)
for starters, i wanted to experiment with changing the type of bread he's based on. i can assume chuck is based on the classic sandwich made up of white bread (...💀) so i wanted to change it up for latino chuck.... yknow... yknow.... yknow.... 🕴️
i'm also just not a fan of plain white bread 🤕 LMFKAJDKSN
i had a couple of options to chose from so i can upgrade his sandwichness™ 💭 but i decided to settle onnnnnnn..........................

funky multigrain bread!! my favorite 🥄‼️ anytime i make a sandwich, i usually reach for this bread... (and when i say "anytime" i mean the times i'm extra and watch a chuck episode while eating a sandwich 💀💀)
i like the idea of chuck having seeds and grains on his face... think of it like moles, freckles, or even acne scars if you will 🤷♂️ brent straight-up has seeds on him that represent freckles so why not, right⁉️ we can get creative here w/ it!!
plus- he's so much more bread-like this way

above is a fast doodle, but it is what i ended up sticking with for my design. if you see in the final drawing, i did shift around with some of his costume colors to make it work with the bread type-colors!!
i imagine brent being a variation of bread that looks similar to chuck. that way chuck can be multigrain bread and brent can be another type.
parent who is multigrain bread + parent who is another type of bread = two siblings, each being one of two options of bread because of genes™ (wow. sandwich person science 😍😍🥪🧬 /s)
my two options for brent's bread type? because i will probably never draw that man? either molasses bread (left) or even dark rye (right)?? but i lean towards dark rye brent because that idea seems so scrumptious to me

ngl i have never been too sure what type of bread brent is based on......
the wiki doesn't really help me decide. he has freckles that seem to be like seeds, so that means he's a type of bread that has seeds. but also, not that many seeds.... which is likely an animation thing since animating all those damn seeds must be hard. but idk? but his skin tone is very slightly darker than chuck so that makes me think he isn't white bread based™ (help what am i talking about)

if any bread experts™ out there have some guesses, let me know so we can talk about that more. for some reason, this is really fascinating.
anyways.... latino brent can be real too 🤷♂️
um...............
brent 😍🥪🇨🇴🔥‼️
(because i swear to god they just call him brent in the spanish dub instead of his long ass name)
but yeah 👍 that's my little hc-chuck related ramble. i may not talk about him, but i really fuckin love chuck
............ .. . . . ... . .... . .. . ...... . .. ...... ....... .. .. .. .....typing this out has made me realize how much thought, effort, and research i have done all because of a joke i made. a joke i made about a cartoon character from a kids show where we haven't gotten new content in years. and that it's likely that i'm the only person thinking so deeply about a family of sandwiches--
#chuck the evil sandwhich making guy#wordgirl#chuck wordgirl#wordgirl pbs#sal arts#chuck el sandwichero perverso#chica supersabia#<- might as well 🤷♂️#wordgirl fanart#wordgirl art#art#artists on tumblr#wg#wg pbs#wg chuck#wordgirl chuck#pbs kids#pbs kids go#2000s cartoons#🤖: by jove you've wrecked my queue!#(aka scheduled all to hell)

10 shocking stories the media buried today.
The Vigilant Fox
Dec 03, 2024
10 - Joe Rogan’s guest reveals institutions redefined “democracy” to stop people from voting for the “wrong person.”
When Trump won in 2016, the CIA launched the “anti-authoritarian toolkit” it used to overthrow governments to install guardrails “that go beyond what people vote for.”
And they did this with a “cute trick” by redefining “democracy” as a “consensus of institutions rather than individuals.”
“So what they did is they argued that democracy has to be defended from demagoguery. Democracy needs guardrails. We need bumper cars on democracy that go beyond what people vote for because people voted for Hitler—people voted for Trump,” @MikeBenzCyber explained.
“And they were doing this at U.S. government conferences, by the way, in 2017… But they were arguing that we need these institutional guardrails against people voting for the wrong person.”
This explanation matches what Vivek Ramaswamy refers to as the “nanny state”—a government that suppresses individual freedom under the guise of “protecting their well-being” to push its own agenda.
The good news from all of this is that they pushed too hard, alienating people like Joe Rogan and Elon Musk, sparking a Great Awakening.
Now, let’s hope Trump finishes the job and dismantles the “nanny state” for good.
(See 9 More Revealing Stories Below)
9 - Alarming Levels of DNA Contamination Found in COVID Vaccines
Researchers have found DNA contamination in COVID-19 mRNA injections exceeding regulatory limits by over 300%, confirming findings from earlier studies.
As such, calls for an immediate global moratorium on COVID-19 mRNA injections continue to intensify.
Today, Kammerer et al published the study titled, BioNTech RNA-Based COVID-19 Injections Contain Large Amounts Of Residual DNA Including An SV40 Promoter/Enhancer Sequence, in the journal Science, Public Health Policy and the Law:
The conclusion states: “Our results raise grave concerns regarding the safety of the BNT162b2 vaccine and call for an immediate halt of all RNA biologicals unless these concerns can be dispelled.”

8 - Stephen A. Smith turns the tables on Joe Biden's claim that Hunter’s legal troubles are a political witch hunt.
“What have y’all been doing with Donald Trump all of these years?”
“You had folks on the left who were hell-bent on going after Donald Trump because they were determined to make sure that he couldn’t run for reelection or that these elements would get in the way of him possibly winning reelection. And now we know why more than ever—because they weren’t confident they would ever be able to beat him.”
“And so, for him to come out and talk about how this was a witch hunt when clearly it could be argued that’s exactly what you were doing to Donald Trump... seems beyond hypocritical. And that was what disgusted me. It wasn’t his decision. It wasn’t in pardoning his son. It was the weak, pathetic explanation that he gave, which has most critics just shaking their heads and raising their eyebrows and saying, ‘What nerve you have.’”
7 - Former Congressman FLEES from Debate After Scott Jennings Traps Him With a GREAT Question
He literally asked another panelist to bail him out.
SCOTT JENNINGS: “Do you all think that Merrick Garland should be fired because of this corruption at the DoJ?... You think this was a politicized witch hunt, but the attorney general should be held accountable, no?”
JAMAAL BOWMAN: (Long sigh) “These charges were trumped up because his name is Hunter Biden.”
SCOTT JENNINGS: “If you were the president, wouldn’t you believe the attorney general?”
JAMAAL BOWMAN: “Let’s consult... let’s consult our legal expert at the desk. Please repeat what you said earlier.”
6 - Rep. James Comer Drops a Bomb on Fox News
“I believe two other Biden family members definitely and knowingly committed crimes. In addition to Hunter Biden, you have Jim Biden and Joe Biden. Joe Biden obstructed my and Chairman Jordan’s investigations. He lied multiple times. He lied about his knowledge and involvement.
“We had sworn testimony from Bobulinski and Devin Archer that said Joe Biden knew all along what was going on. He was selling the brand—his brand. He was selling access to our enemies around the world. And he lied, just like Jim Jordan said in the debate about the laptop. And he lied when he said he wasn’t going to pardon his son. So, yes, Joe Biden, in my opinion, has committed crimes.
“Jim Biden, we saw he took in all these loans. He didn’t pay any interest, didn’t pay any principal—had no loan documentation. At what point do those loans become income? They never paid taxes on [that]. And by the way, why did he get those loans? What was he doing?
“All the people that wired money to the Bidens were shady characters, either adversaries or people that were in trouble, needing assistance, needing a prosecutor fired, needing a pardon. They were needing something from Joe Biden, THE BIG GUY.”

I have returned with another essay on worldbuilding.
Part one: Design.
Your world has more animalistic pokemon. Going for a more... Adapted to a real functioning world where physics and biology are mostly in accordance with how it would work here.
My favourite example of this is this post. In it is pictured a Gardevoir. I don't know if the design is still accurate, but said gardevoir is less a funny alien creature and instead an elongated owl.
Another amazing example of this is the Power Scale post. The beastly legendaries and especially Arcy look sick. With "unrealistic" features like Arcy's fence gate being adapted into much more believable features/body parts.
That being said, we get to
Part 1.5: The Point
With most pokemon being animal-ified, there are some where that just isn't realy feasible. Good contenders for this are the magnemite line, a ton of Grass types and otherwise plant pokemon, and a bunch of object pokemon
small list of examples: Chandelure, klefki, Sudowoodo, oddish, bellsprout, shroomish, grimer, gastly, voltorb, Porygon, Koffing, Cofagrigus, and Ditto. (to be honest, ditto needs its own section)
How would you handle pokemon like that?
I kind of like the idea of naturally occuring mechanical life. You open up a dead Magnezone and there's just a load of gears and electric components in there. (imagine steampunk but with electricity instead of steam)
similarly, How would Gijinka of robotic/ object mons work?
Part 2: Pokespeak
In the anime all Pokemon speak Pokespeak. With pokemon being more animalistic, How do you handle them communicating?
Same question with the sentient mons situation from the anime. Most if not all pokemon on the protagonist's team (COUGH Pikachu) are of similar intelligence as a human, they have complex logic, can read, experience the entire spectrum of emotion, can perfectly understand language, etc.
How does that work?
That'll be it for now.
Part 1-1.5
Yep, gardevoir design is still accurate. Most of my design process for figuring out how I'm going to interpret pokemon design is deviating from a lot of common things that I see. Continuing with the gardevoir example, it's one of those pokemon that you don't google bc everyone just turns it into a booby waifu. I looked at the face and kinda went, 'Hey, that looks like the facial disk of an owl,' and started there.
For things that aren't easily interpreted, I switch to scribbling around with shapes. The Arceus fence thing was more inspired by the biblically accurate angels thing from the book of Revelations bc i thought that was funny lol. Sometimes I just give up tho and things like sylveon still gets it's weird ribbon things bc it's a Fey and they are not beholden to normal rules.
Other ways I design pokemon is by trying to figure out what niche they would fill and how would they have evolved to fill it bc nature is bonkers like that and doesn't like empty spaces. The universe of Genesis is absolutely riddled with ambient energy, so you get things like sentient almost-rocks and minerals or florauna creatures that make up plant types since everything is essentially swimming in a sort of low-key primordial soup. Sometimes a loose spirit just really thinks that chandelier is cool looking and would make a good home. The Good Soup™ makes it easier for that spirit to move its new body and now you have a new pokemon! All that loose energy gives life to things that on our world, would not work. But hey, such is magic-science.
There are lots of different paths I can take, so I don't really have a set process of how I generally do it. And there are so many theories of how certain pokemon came to be - either through in-game lore talked about in the pokedex/from NPCs or someone with their red string on the wall making a spider's web of what's going on in the world of pokemon - that I can take some of those and just run with it. For example; you brought up ditto. Congratulations! You've discovered Prime's "siblings," since I'm using the theory that ditto were Rocket's failed attempts at cloning mew. Little blobs that use the energy of the world around them to craft bodies several times their mass and size, using moves that they don't normally learn.
Robotic/object gijinka would depend on which pokemon is the base form. There's a whole lot of human in a gijinka which keeps things to a mostly human base (this is how I ignore the egg types in gijinka when it comes to reproducing and y'know, keeping your culture alive), so it would mostly boil down to types. If someone was of the magnemite line, they'd have iron/steel deposits in places where the skin is thin, like how Heph does on his knuckles, a characteristic of a steel type gijinka. They'd also be more prone to generating static electricity. Or a doctor giving a vanilluxe gijinka a check up has to have a different base body temperature to test against since ice types have a body temp that runs a little bit cooler than most others (fire types have the opposite problem. Razor has torched off shirt sleeves before, which is why he's almost always in a tank-top of some sort)
Part 2
How do pokemon communicate with each other? Idk, the same way they do in Tarzan. They just, can. Smth smth, pokemon speaking with their hearts, not words. Pokéspeak isn't suuuper well understood, mostly due to not having enough cases to study, but it does very rarely crop up in people from time to time. N is canon to the Genesis timeline (not sure when just quite yet but anyway) and he can fully understand pokemon. Biggest theory is that it's stored away somewhere in the human DNA, a leftover from when pokemon and humans were once considered the same, ala Sinnohian lore. Kinda like how every now and then irl there's a human baby born with a tail. Tail genes are still in our DNA, but it gets switched off at some point during fetal development.
That being said tho, some pokemon have managed to learn human language, in a way. Unown being the starting point for many languages in the world used to communicate more with people back in the day, but now it's considered a mostly dead/slightly resurrected language like Mayan.
The abra line are particularly clever and good at figuring out human patterns. Champion Red from Kanto taught a lot of his pokemon sign language as part of their training and a few of them can sign back at him. He's rarely seen without his kadabra, Pythagoras, and she's the most fluent out of all his pokemon. It's still broken and incomplete tho, kinda like how an african grey parrot would string words together.
A lot of how pokemon speak to each other is mostly body language tho, which even in humans is calculated to make up a whopping 55% of how we communicate with one another (38% is vocal tone and a measly 7% is the actual words and their dictionary definition/context. So it's no wonder why so many people get into arguments on the interwebs with black text on a white background) Pokemon still pick up on all of this, and with their different way of communication, they can still usually pick out human meanings just fine.

Okay The Hyperfixation has completely consumed me so fuck here we go
Metamorphosis AU
HLVRAI AU where Gordon becomes the same species as whatever the fuck Benrey is because of fucked up Xen shit. Like some sort of metamorphosis or gross alien puberty
He was kinda already Changed™ by the time they all left Tommy’s birthday party but literally nobody can tell Gordon when or how it happened, but he’s pretty sure the fact he spent a lot of time around a lot of Xen Radiation without a helmet on it is the primary cause. Cue the Science Team cheerfully teasing Gordon for not wearing a helmet.
Benrey is here as well, of course. He’s been here for about a month before the story begins (he was really busy playing Heavenly Sword, you see, and once his free month of PS+ ran out he decided to Go Bother Gordon). He has his own house so he doesn’t really need to stay with Gordon…but said “house” is literally an abandoned gardening shed that he wired up an electrical current and router to, so Gordon is letting him stay anyways (“Dude why the hell are you living like this??? That’s fucked up, I guess you can stay with me until you can get a Real Job…”).
Having Benrey live with Gordon works anyways since he needs somebody to help him control the Sweet Voice he keeps spewing out, among other things like not getting stuck in no-clip mode and turning off the fucking nightvision he accidentally unlocked.
Shenanigans ensue:
Benrey turns into a massive worm on a string at least once (to Gordon’s horror AND humor)
everybody vents about how Big Suck their old workplace was
Bubby goes to work at a Burger King for half a shift before inevitably setting the place ablaze
Sunkist rides a skateboard (hell yeah!)
Benrey and Gordon play in the dirt
All this happens and more

hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate how channels formerly dedicated to history and science have become the alien/cryptid conspiracy and treasure hunt channels
Don’t get me wrong. I LOVE cryptids. Love them and the insight they can provide into their respective cultures of origin. And I have nothing against a cool treasure hunt story or archaeological exploration.
But when I tune into the History channel I want like….. history. Documentaries. Not two rich brothers ripping apart a wholeass island in Canada over the course of a decade because there might have been treasure buried there. Not some household sci-fi name presenting a reel of Inexplicable™ clips compiled from interns searching “BIGFOOT COMMITTING GRAND THEFT UFO” on YouTube
#Josh Gates gets a pass he doesn’t seem to do much damage and he’s genuinely motivated bu the pursuit and dissemination of knowledge#but yeah fuck those Oak Island guys big time#they ARE the curse of Oak Island
