Christmas List Erased Day 16: Missus Nice Christmas! We got the gang all here as our incarnations of Snow miser, Heat miser, and mother nature!

Sorry this is a bit of a late one guys and technically breaks our challenge, but tbh it's very not surprising the day after halfway is when we break our streak. I'm also not that miffed about it since I was at work for 10 hours and then came back and slept for 10 hours, so my day was down the drain immediately.

Still, I think I did pretty good on this piece even with the time constraints and Kiri looking to TORTURE me with the little details that took an extra hour. I wanted to get this done so bad I almost forgot the sparkles which are an absolute necessity. We're gonna try and keep ourselves on time with a few more single character art panels, but we're also not gonna kill ourselves over them.

This also happened and Kiri and I were literally text screaming to each other for almost an hour. We got a like and a repost from Jello and that was really cool, but this accompanied by the startling amount of attention was more than we could have ever asked for with this whole challenge. Kiri and I (Jam) will do our best to live up to the honor of "cool dude drawperson" that is split between us and hopefully post before midnight this time!

Amber is smart and she's dealing with a lot. Ok work from there, Amber is at a great point in life as a young black woman where “ok everything ive done has cultivated to this much. Playtime is over time to get serious. Wait did even get to play during play time? Focus! They all look like they know something you don’t so you need to know more. You need to know everything! Before it happens! So it doesn’t happen again! Did I eat today?”

I want to see Amber burying herself in her studies and taking the opportunities allowed to her in that big ass white school.

I want to see her parallel Mark (whose she's still with in my au i do not care) where he’s getting beaten down by an enemy and Amber is getting covered in assignments and they both get back up because that's real hot girl shit

Dani x Jason Prompt

(Because i dont see enough of these two together. Also, this is another prompt i found in my fic files that i never did anything with.)

While Danny is in Amity Park protecting the ghost portal, Dani explores the world. Danny might be powerful enough to put down any threat, even Ancients, but she isn't as lucky. Her best defense against Vlad or the GIW is to never be in the same place two days in a row. Not to say she isn't powerful in her own right - she's yet to meet a ghost in her travels that she couldn't utterly crush, and even if she had, she's got the most loyal dog in both this world and the next to have her six.

Dani has discovered a great deal of beauty throughout the world in her few short years of life, but also unfathomable evil and undescribable corruption. She does what she can in every place she passes through, her ghost powers the ultimate cheat code for investigation and subterfuge, bringing to light the things that once hid in the dark.

But while scoping out yet another child trafficking ring, she crosses paths with a spirit of vengeance. At least, that's the only explanation she can come up with for how he's able to turn his shock and horror into pure rage at the flip of a dime.

Until she realizes that he's a baby halfa. If he doesn't learn how to mediate his emotions, he's going to burn out one of his halves.

Maybe she can help him stabilize into a proper spirit of justice and keep him from following the path that Vlad went down - oh shit, he doesn't even know that he's undead. Well, this is going to be a project and a half. But Dani is nothing if not resourceful - she's more than willing to put in the work if it means making an ally of the fourth known halfa.

Day 1: Music

I was in one hell of a time crunch to make all the illustrations because I procrastinated UuU But I took most of these works as opportunities to experiment a bit with some ideas so I had fun.

knowing that blood colour wouldn’t be the major determinant of scar tissue colour, i'm currently writing up a post predicting turian scar colour and its biological basis.

initially, i hypothesised that turian scars are pink or brown, due to collagen and myoglobin (myoglobin is wrong btw), and the lack of melanin in garrus’ case (hypopigmentation->pink) or excessive melanin for hyperpigmented scars (->brown). but the further i go down this rabbit hole…holy hell. im practically living on google scholar now.

based on my research so far, it is deduced that turian scars would neither be pink nor blue. they'd lean more towards pale violet or greyish for hypopigmented scars, and slowly getting darker, closer to the original skin tone, as the scars mature.

for hyperpigmentation it’s getting complicated bc melanin is made from l-tyrosine, which means turians would use d-tyrosine instead. as a result, the metabolic pathway for melanin synthesis could be wildly different due to enzyme specificity.

i’m still in theoretical territory, but even if we can create a synthetic alternate metabolic pathway, idk if it is possible to create melanin from d-tyrosine or not. even if so, would its properties (including colour) even be the same as in humans, being made from d-tyrosine?

fresh wound (after cleaning the blood), however, would make sense being blue, just not bright blue, but off-white with a subtle blue undertone. (<- can u even notice i changed the text colour to the colour i'm describing?)

(this also means the blue scar mod only makes sense for a fresh wound that is still bleeding. it's still very cool to look at. i'm just mildly bothered, not because of the mod altering anything, but that people are saying turian scars should be blue because their blood is blue, which is not a scientifically correct argument itself. while blood does play a part in determining the colour of certain scar tissues, human scars aren't bright red like our blood either. they're pink or greyish-brown)

still doing more research but the post im writing up is already pretty long lmao. and bioware could just say it’s due to a fictional pigment called xyzoid which is pink then all my research would be in vain <3

I will say that the mourn watch background makes so much sense of rook's occasional social awkwardness. this poor fucker had really barely ever been outside before when they were kicked out from home for shenanigans and varric adopted them like a puppy slash poor little meow meow because they reminded him so much of hawke when they were young ssssh that's my headcanon. what's more they were raised by a bunch of fifth house style freaks (affectionate) who also had never been outside before. as baby jesus was laid in a manger baby rook was laid in a coffin. as baby moses was found in the bullrushes, baby rook was found among the shin bones. they may have glimpsed normalcy before once on a sunny day, but only about three degrees removed and around a corner.

considering their circumstances and previous life experiences I think they're doing great at social interactions actually don't worry sweetie you're doing amazing, realizing most people get a bit nervous if you talk too much about skulls and bone saws around them is a great first step! a joke not landing with your audience here and there is detail work we can fine tune at another time let's get some of these fundamentals in place first <- me and varric encouraging them as they're stepping into this brand new world
