Not to preach to the choir but I wonder if people generally realize that AI models like ChatGPT aren't, like, sifting through documented information when you ask it particular questions. If you ask it a question, it's not sifting through relevant documentation to find your answer, it is using an intensely inefficient method of guesswork that has just gone through so many repeated cycles that it usually, sometimes, can say the right thing when prompted. It is effectively a program that simulates monkeys on a typewriter at a mass scale until it finds sets of words that the user says "yes, that's right" to enough times. I feel like if it was explained in this less flattering way to investors it wouldn't be nearly as funded as it is lmao. It is objectively an extremely impressive technology given what it has managed to accomplish with such a roundabout and brain-dead method of getting there, but it's also a roundabout, brain-dead method of getting there. It is inefficient, pure and simple.

Stanley Pines is dying.

A good samaritan on the street found his unconscious body and decided to call an ambulance for him. Stan doesn’t remember everything that happened. He just knows that a few days and a multitude of tests later, he was unceremoniously diagnosed with a terminal illness in a random hospital in the middle of Oklahoma. Emphasis on terminal. The doctors tell him that without treatment, he has maybe two weeks to live.

Stan can’t afford treatment, nor the hospital bill he’s sure to be slapped with from his current stay. He sneaks out during the night shift and disappears. It’s one more debt added to the list but it’s not like it’s going to matter once he’s dead anyway. He finds the last place he left his car and spends the rest of the night awake in the backseat, wondering what he should do.

In the end, the conclusion is obvious: he wants to see his family. To say his final goodbyes to them in person. However, this brings a new dilemma. Stan’s family are all in different places. His parents in New Jersey, Shermie in California, and Stanford in Oregon. Stan, currently in Oklahoma, is stuck in the middle and with a decision to make.

He can’t visit them all. As much as he’d like to, Stan has neither the money, the gas, or the time to do so. He’d probably die before he could see all of them. He only has enough energy and resources to make it to one of them; he’ll have to be content with phone calls to the others to say his goodbyes.

When the morning comes, Stan gets into the driver’s seat and starts the engine of the car. He sits there for a moment, just breathing deeply. He has to pick a family member to see in person before he dies, and he doesn’t have a lot time, so he has to choose quickly.

It was never really a question.

He chooses Ford.

AKA a terminally ill Stanley makes his way up to Gravity Falls, Oregon to reunite with his brother. He wants to say his goodbyes and apologies in person before he dies. He’s not happy about dying, but he doesn’t think he has much to live for anyway, so he accepts it. He just wants to make things right between himself and Ford before it happens so he can go without regrets.

Stanford is not expecting his estranged twin to randomly show up looking like he’s literally on death’s door. Nor is he approving of Stanley’s plan to seemingly just lay down and die. Good thing Stan came to him. Now he’s given Ford a chance to do something about it.

All current research and projects get shoved aside as Ford focuses everything he has on a new, single task: take care of Stanley and save his life.

Like maybe before they attempt a truce he has these fears that his brother is keeping them against their will or not treating them right, but then when they're trying to make amends he realises that they're all actually... friends? Like Nightmare cares for them (whether he admits it or not) and they're all looked after and content to be there.

And that's great! His brother hasn't been lonely and isolated all this time, he's glad about that! And he's happy these monsters aren't being held hostage to fight this war, what a relief!

His brother has even made friends, that's so good!! He's so happy for him!! Happy is what this feeling is definitely!! :)

I could just see him struggling while he and Nightmare try and mend their relationship back to what it was when they were kids (which is going to take a lot of time and patience, if it's even possible), and feeling a little sour when he sees these other monsters who have what he wants already.

there are a lot of opinions about the supers that i don’t agree with, but i can still see where people are coming from. however, one hill that i’m willing to die on is that you can never tell a good story about them revealing their identity to the world or being exposed, and somehow make it seem like a good decision for them. you just can’t. it’s even worse when they willingly tell the world. it feels out of character and makes me distrust the author telling the story. a world where it’s safe for the supers to reveal their identities is a world that doesn’t need superheroes to begin with.

i spent a lot of time in elementary schools this year, and i get so pissy when adults start whinging about “kids these days just don’t ____ anymore 😢” here are some observations on current kid culture that make me feel some kind of hope:

children still have a proclivity for repetitive tasks that confuse adults with their “lack of purpose” such as:

grinding sidewalk chalk into powder

digging holes

mixing mud into highly specific consistencies

breaking bricks into smaller pieces of brick

handclap games are still a thing! the lyrics to “lemonade / crunchy ice” have evolved a little, but they still do it and adults still get handwringy about violence in children’s rhymes

ditto tetherball. and freeze tag. and groundies. and “the floor is lava”. and heads-up 7up. and yes, kids still get into extremely dumb semantic arguments about the intricacies of foursquare rules.

there isn’t any drama on earth that can hold a candle to those in 1st grade girls’ pretend games. seriously convoluted family trees, skullduggery, witch covens, mermaids shoving other mermaids’ boyfriends into the sea, kidnapping, little brothers being made to be the butler, terribly mischievous babies…

they make friendship bracelets, and cootie catchers, and pester the one student who remembers how to tie off gimp endlessly.

they still try to get hapless adults to spell “icup”, and to get trapped in whatever the goofy inappropriate gotcha of the day is.

and to my eternal chagrin, “the cheese touch” is still a thing that wreaks havoc across grade levels and social strata. jeff kinney, it’s on sight…

"gay people can't tell when someone's flirting with them" is a statistical error. most people can actually tell and are trying to communicate "it's a tricky situation where I can't be 100% sure" in a slightly annoying way. your sister, who is convinced that "this is just what sisters do" when you're french kissing her is an outlier and should not be counted.

I'm sure they have very interesting character traits and lore the actors and fandom have come up with and that is so fun and great and I know none of it and I am perfectly content with that.
