Match review: Manchester United 2-0 Leeds United

Pre-season has kicked off, and with it United ventured over to Oslo to take on the horrible sods from Yorkshire.

It was a weird tale of two halves: the first, with the more senior players, showed a lot more evidence of tactical style and ambition; Mount was a workhorse in midfield flitting between a creative pass gambler ala Bruno and the clean-up ala Casemiro. Amad looked lively on the attack, Hannibal and Mainoo bossed the midfield, and Alvaro Fernandez continued his strong form from last season's Preston loan at LB.

The second half saw a complete overhaul and swap of the on-field 11. The tactics fell away, as is the case with less experienced, youthful players, but the skill was evident for all regardless.

A killer throughball from Isak Hansen-Aaroen put Noam Emeran through for a tidy finish past the Leeds keeper to make it 1-0, and later Emeran took his turn to play assistant and put a beautiful angled ball through the Leeds back line to an unmarked Joe Hugill who slotted home calmly.

Post-game stats would be useful to see, but on the eye test alone it's hard not to get excited. Emeran was wonderful on the ball, reminiscent of Gianfranco Zola with his agile movement. Isak Hansen-Aaroen also put in a big showing with his attacking movement and positioning, keeping the passing flowing.

There were three big revelations: - Mainoo seems first team ready (as backup ofc) - Hannibal's maturity (thanks Birmingham City) - United seem to have become a team that likes to be in possession

Fans have DESPAIRED for months and years at the hiding away of certain players for their lack of willing to be on the ball. Not everyone needs to be a baller, but even those who are less technically proficient should be brave enough and competent enough to do the basics: give and go passing, move into space to show or receive the ball, be aware of where to move the ball on to and who's around you.

Today's game was versus a Championship team, freshly relegated from the Premier League, but Leeds aren't awful and this was a derby. Lyon next Wednesday will be a sterner test but the start has been promising. Roll on Murrayfield.

Late night sketch of Mozart from memory, because I love him. One would think I’d draw him more, as obsessed with him as I am. I used his own painted reference of the deformity in his left ear. Apparently he also had a little earring? It’s cute.

Mozart knew he was not particularly attractive so he made up for this by taking fastidious care of his appearance, being funny, and often placing his talent on display before himself.

You win some, you lose some...

After beating scummy Leeds and the much more tolerable Olympique Lyonnais, many fans suggested United were on fire, Erik Ten Hag was cooking, and superlatives were flowing all over Twitter.

Well, like the change from Twitter to X, so did United's fortunes change with our midweek games against Wrexham and Real Madrid.

For the academy prospects (and Jonny Evans) we saw the impact of physicality beyond technical ability. Wrexham were strong, progressive with their build-up play, and the 3-5-2 style caused United's kids problems.

United, in response, were full of guile but ultimately lacked end product up front - a tale we're too familiar with in the first team. Things may have been different had Dan Gore not been sent off, but the same could be said of the freak injury to Paul Mullin. Bishop's poor tackle on the edge of the box broke the star forward's rib and punctured a lung, potentially ruling the forward out for a number of months. It wasn't deliberate but it was a red, and United's eventual 10 men was only fair.

Despite the 3-1 defeat Hannibal stood out, and Fernandez and Jurado not far behind him in terms of potentials for the first team, but the friendly was a good indication of the good, bad, and potential with the youth prospects. A lot of loans should be pursued now.

For the first team, a match with Don Carlo's Galacticos was never really likely to be a United win without a no9. Bellingham scored a wonderful (BUT OFFSIDE) opening chip over Onana, and maybe the De Gea fans were right - David would have been on his line and the opportunity to lob would be gone. That said, it's a gamble. I prefer my keepers to be able to pass to teammates more often than they pass to the opposition.

Mainoo's injury was the big disappointment of the night, like Amad's, and deprived us of seeing just how ready he is for first team football. Arsenal is one thing, but Madrid are the real deal.

In his stead, Eriksen showed the weaknesses we're already aware of; great technique and vision but ultimately slow and defensively lacking. Mount's energy and pressing helps with this, but that's not enough versus big teams like Real, Barca, City, Bayern, and I think it's no surprise we're seeing reports of a bid for Fiorentina's Amrabat currently.

A 2-0 defeat is a shame, but United weren't bullied out of the game or overrun. There were chances, but without a true striker it makes a big difference. Same goes for the line-up tinkering. Bruno out wide isn't terrible, but it won't get the best from him. ETH needs to try different formations though. Adaptation and flexibility are what make champions.

Pre-season is about bedding in tactics and an overarching strategic approach to football. With the World Cup last year, and a heavily congested fixture list, this just wasn't possible to the level required. Now is the time to truly see Ten Hag Ball. Erik Ten Hag's second season (pending Hojlund and Amrabat) could be very tasty. Up the fucking reds.

“babe, where are you?” hamzah asked as he got out of the bedroom, now dressed up for the party you guys will be attending.

earlier today, he helped you pick out a dress where you can freely move in and he picked out a sparkly mini dress that flowed well at the bottom and hugged your waist well — which he had no knowledge of as this is your first time wearing it out.

now, you were getting ready in the bathroom. you had just finished doing your makeup base and eye makeup which matched your dress when you heard hamzah’s voice coming from the other room.

when he didn’t find you by the mirror at the living room, he immediately went to the bathroom.

and there you were, looking at yourself in the mirror as you put on your lip combo. he looked at your figure starting from your legs and he was in awe.

you glance at him and smile, putting down your lip liner on the counter. “hi,” you now reach for your lipstick then applied it. “camo pants again?” you both chuckle at your tone and he walks toward you.

“well, i wore the shirt you wanted me to at least that’s good riiight?” he says teasingly, hands finding their way to your waist, now rubbing his hands up and down your body.

you hum in response and resumed to do your makeup.

“you’re so pretty.” hamzah pulls you closer to him as he placed kisses all over your neck then your shoulder, hands still on your waist.

you giggle as he still kisses you before he moves your hair to expose more skin for him to kiss.

he begins to nip at the soft spot you have on your neck and when he hears you sigh and place down your makeup brush, he knows you’re already putty in his hands.

his hands find its way up to your chest, brushing his thumb over one boob before squeezing them softly as he continued placing kisses on your neck.

“hamzah…” you place a hand on top of his before he turned you around to face him.

and finally, he kisses your lips and you forget about all the product on your face.

you kiss him back just as aggressive as he does, his hands now back to your waist and his leg slotted in between your legs. your arms wrap around his shoulders and somehow you're closer than ever.

as he slips his tongue in your mouth, he glides his hands down to your ass, squeezing it a little.

when his kisses started to get sloppy, he moves down to your jaw and neck, kissing any part of your body he could reach. you close your eyes as you lean into his touch and your fingers find their way go tangle between his black curls.

you let out a breath as he unzips the back of your dress and take one sleeve down just for your breasts to be immediately revealed. he was thankful you weren't wearing a bra and now it was easier for him to suck on your nipple and swirl his tongue around it.

the sound that comes out of your mouth just encourages hamzah to continue. you feel his other hand reaching out to take off the other sleeve when suddenly you're taken out of the trance and tug your boyfriend's hair to make him stop.

"babe, we're gonna be late for the party!" you exclaimed, yet he continued what he was doing, even moving to give your other boob the same attention.

when you finally give in and let out a moan he pulls away and places a soft kiss over your sternum.

"can't we just stay home?" he gives you a look that you almost say yes to but you stand your ground.

"no, it's my best friend's birthday. maybe afterwards we can continue where we left off." you pull him in for a kiss, hands on each side of his face.

he smiles when he pulls away. "that's a deal." he helps you put the sleeves of your dress back up.

you giggle when you see your lipstick stained all over his lips and chin. you wipe it with your thumb before shooing him away so you can go back to doing your makeup.
