Aetherdrift story/worldbuilding has been really nice.
Lots of things to comment on, but my favorite detail so far is the camaraderie between the living and dead in Amonkhet. I've always loved the Innistrad geists for the same reason!

Archfiend of Ifnir Pixel-Proxy (2025)
Made another pixelart MtG card. Love the eerie mood of Seb McKinnon's original piece.

Things we can ascertain from this as being absolutely and totally canon:
Teysa Karlov collects paintings of other pale black-haired women (Cunt Knows Cunt)
Her collection likely focuses on women from other planes, likely even before planeswalkers became common knowledge.
There is/was a thriving interplanar art trade that we never heard about.
Liliana, Death's Majesty, was an in-universe painting that Liliana sat for.
Since they didn't really have time for that in the original story, it must have been on a previous visit (likely to confirm Amonkhet was Razaketh's home plane)
This means that Teysa Karlov had a painting of Liliana Vess in her collection at the time of War of the Spark.
Upon realizing she had a painting of Nicol Bolas's top general, she moved it to a place of prominence on the grand stair because that's a real fucking power move.

“Nadu! Let it go!”
“No! It’s the only way we’ll be able to rebuild the city!”
The muscular aven struggled furiously while flying in the raging sandstorm. Webs of water flared from his hands, reaching further into the vortex and wrapping around a small, metallic flower. But the wind was too strong, and was pulling the flower up into the storm, taking Nadu with it.
“It’s not worth it!” shouted one of the survivors on the ground. “Leave it! We’ll pull you back!”
“NO!” Nadu bellowed, fighting to be heard over the roaring winds.
“You’re already powerful enough to-”
“I NEED MORE MANA!”
The former initiates began forward to restrain Nadu, but were quickly blown away by a particularly strong gust. Instead they were forced to watch as both the aven and his treasure disappeared into the gloom.
“NADU!”
The survivors heard no response. Even the beating of Nadu’s wings had faded, leaving only the wind and sand.
“We…we have to go!” one of the group yelled to the others. “The storm is still building! We’ll come back, we’ll find him later!”
The others quickly agreed. For several long minutes they retreated, until finally the gales began to abate. Only when they crested the top of a particularly large sand dune were they willing to stop, turn, and observe the storm from a distance.
“We have to go back!” cried one of the group.
“Are you crazy?” hissed a second. “We’d be swept away just like-”
“We’d need to cast a spell to stop the storm. But, none of our magic is strong enough.”
“We would’ve needed…”
The conversation lulled as they all wistfully recalled the lotus Nadu had been seeking.
“We’ll wait until it dies down,” growled the oldest of their number. “Then we’ll come back.”
But the sandstorm showed no signs of stopping. Already the dark clouds were in the process of turning midday into night. Although the others quickly agreed to return later for Nadu, it was clear that their hopes for a rescue were slim.
“That damned flower…”

[Dang, Nadu’s a 3/4 with flying for 3? Talk about power creep!]

Have any of you ever been to the plane of Amonkhet?
Ourselves, no. But that plane, like all others, has now been touched by our glorious mission. They seem fond of undeath there... an unsightly habit not dissimilar to Sheoldred's, but easy enough to correct once even the dead are perfected.
Look how their feeble gods fight us. Just like the ones of Theros, so effectively converted by my Ajani's efforts, they will fall–and rise again in glory.
-E

My informants whisper of a material there, lazotep, with the potential to free even the most ensnared of Phyrexian minds–at the cost of a cruder transformation. I would investigate further if I could.

#the lazotep was so interesting and then they just never spoke of it again??#elesh norn#urabrask#mtg#magic the gathering#amonkhet#anon

I wonder how the gods feel about other deities with the same domain now that the multiverse is more open?
Do Ilharg and the Scorpion Good argue about the best ways to do an apocalypse? Does Erebos judge Aclazotz for being a lying little bitch? Do Toralf and Ojer Axonil ever have arm-wrestling matches?
