Rewind the Tape — IWTV S1E04 Rewatch

Finally, I'm back with my rewatch for @iwtvfanevents after having to microdosing Ep 4 because of limited time, mood, and I just fell unconscious once I hit my bed. Again, FYI from before: this is my first time rewatching the show (excluding indirect watch through YouTube reactions), and its purpose for me to refresh my mind and noticing things. So, I won't dwell on certain ongoing or past theories, but I'll take notes about the possibilities I notice as the rewatch goes for myself. Also, disclaimer, because I've had people put words into my mouth before: When I'm assuming the reason a certain character does what they do, it's not to give them an excuse. It's my way of trying to understand what the writers have in their minds. For me, if the action of a character doesn't make sense in that character's eyes, based on their personality, then it's bad writing.

Okay, that's long enough. Be careful with the S2 spoiler alerts. Time to meet ✨ Claudia✨

• It's been 10 years since Daniel published a book and his publisher seems questioning his ability to write a book.

• Armand barely gets any sunlight here.

• *Googling* Levodopa is used to reduce Parkinson's symptoms, like tremors, stiffness, and slowness, which are caused by lack of dopamine. It works by being converted to dopamine in brain.

• "Electronic mailbox" Armand, you're so funny.

• Resting? Wait, have they ever did an interview during mornings before? Ep 1, it's night. Ep 2, during dinner time to late at night. Okay, it seems Ep 3 starts in the day to night. Gonna pay attention to this more. 

• The interior designer is a woman. "Louis is missing the 'natural' world" What tree is that again? I'm bad with plants.

• Claudia wrote her name and the year on her first diary. Cute. (But ofc she probably stopped doing that after Loustat read her diaries)

• They arrived in Paris November 14, 1945. A week after Lestat's birthday, fyi. There's a headcanon Armand's (it seems people got it from a wikia, which was taken from an official calendar, but no one has checked that calendar) is November 11. 

• They're in Ploiesti in 1941, eating POWs.

• My caption doesn't write it, but Lestat says, "Impossible. Elle est trop jeune." (She's too young) Oh, Louis 😔

• "I just need her not to die". And Lestat probably recalled Louis crying on their bed over not able to have a child, and there they went to doom themselves and Claudia. Anything (because unlike Louis, he knows all the consequences) to keep Louis happy AND stay with him. 

• The contrast between Louis' and Claudia's transformation. Lestat doesn't let her to drink much, just enough to turn her. There's no gentleness or anything when Lestat holds her. In fact, the camera stays on his rough hold, highlighting the ugliness of it. Isn't in the books being turned without consent seen akin to rape? 

• "Hell demons" lol. I wonder when she got his first diary and when she arrived at that conclusion. 

• "It's my new house?" "It is if you want it to be" as if she has another option. Louis, you're so funny. 

• Delaying to tell Claudia that she needs to feed on humans. Telling her there's another "choice" than eating humans. Expecting Claudia to feel regret the next day after killing a human. Louis, stop putting your own feelings in her.

• "He has to relay on my words to understand me. Just like humans." "We are a family?" Monsters who have to keep a bit of humanity to get along, who are also playing house like humans.

• You could tell Lestat is already sensitive about being left out in the telepathic conversation since the beginning.

• Claudia witnessing queer relationship for the first time is so amusing lol

• Claudia says ACAB 😌

• This scene doesn't feel "smooth" to me. I don't know if it's the editing or the writing. First, that last line by the cop is too long for such a short action. Second, i think they could pick a better intonation for "not a cop" there. Plus, the placement makes it feel like they almost forgot to put it. 

• Claudia needs twice amount of blood than Loustat. She's still energetic when the sleep time comes. Noted. 

• "Kill juice" Lestat and Claudia are bonding over vampirism.

• "Have you seen my slippers?" "Under the chair by the window" The domesticity uwu.

• The lines about Lestat talking about Claudia's writing habit are so witty when you remember he canonly writes the Vampire Chronicles books. A platonic kiss for IWTV writers again.

• Claudia's new coffin is called The Feathered Nest. A call back to Louis saying him in Lestat's nest in Ep 2. 

• Since the beginning, Claudia likes to ask and figure out things that she doesn't know, while Louis won't say anything to not rock the boat.

• "We try to accustom her to the thought of coming home to God" Oh gosh, Louis is so bad at lying 😭

• Okay, seriously. We know in Ep 2, after Louis is just turned that /at least/ his sight and hearing becomes more sensitive. And in this episode, Claudia can smell the cop's blood from afar. But this lore doesn't consistent with the stinky bodies at their home in Ep 5 and the fact Claudia can stalk Lestat many times (and ofc Claudia and Louis at Antoinette's place in Ep 6 as well). This uncontinuity gives me a headache. OR after they manage to control their senses (Lestat's saying "focus on my voice, a single strain"), their senses basically become normal and only can do more when they willing it? I'm trying to make sense of it here.

• "I miss sleeping with you." So, in good days, they sleep together in Louis' coffin. They /probably/ haven't been doing it since Antoinette thing started (I mean, I wouldn't). That's 8 months. (The sanctioned infidelity narration is on Feb 1917, Claudia started to write her diary in late Sept 1917 and she still sleeps with Louis by that time. Based on this timeline)

• "Sometimes, you gotta be careful where you dig, you understand?" Not to fast forward to S2, but this sounds so ominous. 

• Louis in the night with this pink striped shirt 🥰

• "Is that what he's up to when he goes out alone?" No wonder stalking Lestat is the first thing she does after Charlie. 

• Do I believe Louis' answer is true? I do, because writing-wise, I don't see there's any reason for Lestat to cheat (as in having a relationship with someone else, because I could see him still making out with humans before eating them) when they keep spending their time together except when Lestat is hunting and Louis and Claudia go out together like in this scene. Plus, unlike in Ep 6, during this era Claudia still follows the no telepathic talking rule. (See: Claudia's "I'll tell Uncle Les you talk to me this way" later) Something, I assume, makes Lestat feel alienated from the two and goes to cheat to find a connection with another on his own. But I digress.

• "Used to caught up in human affairs. Then you."

• Okay, at least Daniel waits Armand to finish his sunnah prayer before interrupting him, though Armand should continue doing his Ashr prayer soon. Anyway, i wish they used adhan that's clearer. I mean, I could only listen the beginning of each phrase, not the end.

• Claudia throwing a thing at Lestat and he barely reacted and proceed to pick it off the floor right away. For a period of time, Claudia is indeed the queen in that house. "This was given to me by a marquis..." If that's from Lestat's father, which makes that a family heirloom, and he gave that to Claudia. That means big for a Provider man like Lestat. (hashtag me and Lestat loved Claudia once propaganda) They are supposed to have 6 years of "good time".

• "When they can't (figuring out their problems), I can always get between them and make it right." Claudia is literally a band-aid. I suppose she helps them communicating because as I said in previous episodes, Loustat tend to not address the real problem, just shift to something that will make them feel better and forget it until it comes up again.

• *S2 spoiler alert* No, never think about how Claudia's interest in acting probably grew from the times Loustat bringing her to watch picture shows and Lestat acting them out in front of them. And in the end, it's what makes her fall into the trap of the troupe easier in S2. No, we're fine.

• "Know what her last words are?" I love her psychopath side, obsessing over last words after being called a devil in one.

• Oh, Grace's inflection when saying "uncle". They have heard a lot of homophobic jabber and satanic accusations from Florence over the years, no doubt. 

• This is from Claudia's POV, so it's interesting how she's paying attention and remembers to write it down. 

• Louis really has put down his dutiful son and brother "hat" after having a family himself.

• I think this is probably the last time Claudia admits she has a lot in common with Lestat *insert xie lian's idk whether i have to cry or laugh here*

• That scene of Claudia eating the guy is so classic horror, complete with the blood splatter on glass. Love.

• Lestat really brings her to Lovers' Lane without thinking about the effects. He probably thinks because her appetite stays big like a kid, her mind will stay like that forever. 

• "I don't remember buying that outfit" Lestat bought all Claudia's outfits ofc. (I don't regard interviews as part of canon, but Sam did say that Louis chose Claudia's outfits)

• My theory: Lestat could notice when Claudia and Louis telepathically speaking if he pays attention to their expressions. I mean, he clearly has a thing for being alienated by telepathic connection (for a good reason, if they adapt that part of the book, cmiiw), so it makes sense if he just can tell. 

• THE HORSE IS CALLED BELLA LOL

• She really has a crush on the first good man she meets. So adorable, if not for her monologue 

• She knocks the railing every time she walks towards Loustat's room? Oh I would like to know the backstory that causes this rule/habit 👀. But if it's a rule, it's an interesting when you recall Lestat's "Child. Intervening the romance of the parents" or something like that in Ep 6.

• Waiting on balcony just like her father in Ep 1. The writers are strong with their "Evil of my evil" propaganda.

• Claudia figures out how to block people's thoughts since teenager. Louis has never had a reason to do it

• Again, Claudia is such a curious girl. She dives right in with Charlie

• Sorry, but the editing in this episode is kinda sloppy. I keep noticing things 😭

• This connection Claudia has with last words. It's been awhile but I wonder if we'll get to see it again. *S2 spoiler alert* Perhaps Madeleine says something to her before you-know-what. Or Claudia says something to Louis instead. I just love patterns yknow. 

• Daniel Hart is just slaying in the background with his music. 

• Vampires feel "loose" when they're aroused, which leads to become very bitey.

• That's why she goes to find out how vampirism works right away. Suddenly Lestat can't do what he did to her. She realizes she knows nothing about her current life

• That scene of Lestat and Claudia at the incinerator... Past Louis doesn't know they're burning Charlie and what exactly what Lestat says there. Imagine reading the latter in her diary.

• The transition from Lestat's whole speech about not being close to a mortal to Daniel 🤌🤌🤌

• If Daniel is true that Louis has had all of the diaries in '70s, so my guess Louis doesn't look fine at all in the flashback is right. He's "wearing hats" again.

• I wonder what Louis wanted to say. But knowing him and judging from his reaction to Daniel's brashness, it's something that sugarcoats  Claudia's position in their "family"

• The way Claudia knocks the railing but then it goes weaker, she doesn't really care about the houserules or childish habits anymore 

• The last scene is a nice hint/nod to you-know-what, but also I once read someone saying that what she does is the equivalent of a teenager doing self-harming when they're depressed, and I can't unsee that anymore. I think that's a spot-on.

• This is the last episode we hear "In Throes in Increasing Wonder" as a closing music btw. You know, the music that represent Loustat's love. They really say we're going downhill 

Summary:

For the previous episodes, I always finished my rewatch and tried to figure out what theme of that episode. Of course it's always about Louis because this is Louis' season first and foremost. But for the theme of this episode, I think it's: Louis' first meeting with Claudia and the first time he has failed her. The first part is obvious, the second part, like I said above, Louis only finds how far Lestat's action is to Claudia after he reads her diaries later. I think, he sees that as his first failure to her; unable to stop Lestat making it worse for her.  And we will see Claudia criticize this more in Ep 6.

This episodes also shows Louis' misconception about Claudia. He expects Claudia to react the same way to vampirism as he is. And we will see more of this in the later episodes (but of course the most obvious one is in Ep 7)

This episode is in Claudia's POV, but I like to call it "the closest thing to ideal life Louis has ever gotten", at least until Charlie happens. Like Lestat says in the church scene, Louis wears a lot of "hats": being the good son and good executive in charge of their fortune for his family, being the good straight man, being the good savvy businessman for his family and his own people, and later being a good vampire for Lestat. This time, he gets to take most of them, if not all, off and focus himself wholly on Claudia and Lestat, his family. He says himself, Claudia's existense silences all the noise, chaos, the crisis of his former existence. He has a daughter who has literal telepathic connection to him, someone who can know what he feels without saying anything. Someone by whom he doesn't feel being judged because he can know what she thinks. He has a husband who spends most of his time with them as a family. Who takes their daughter together to shop, Louis choosing the stuffs, Lestat paying for it. Who protects their family when they need to fulfill their daughter's needs (see: the buying coffin scene). Who also has a quality time with their daughter, even though it's mostly about killing humans. Unfortunately, it's rigged to burn, because Claudia won't be a child forever despite her body, outgrowning the very particular role Loustat need from her to maintain their play house.

Oh, I almost forgot, I wonder what the arrangement is with Louis' diet during this happy period. He doesn't do as much action as he did in previous episodes and we do see him eating animals still, but it looks like his sex life is thriving. He has control over his emotions pretty well. So, I assume he doesn't starve himself completely. At least, not as bad as he did before. Perhaps, this is one of the problems Claudia says she has "to smooth out". Though we know later she has never said directly to Louis how she actually doesn't completely agree with his diet choice from Episode 7. *S2 spoiler alert* And we know he later decides to eat human every other day to survive their European trip. My long time theory is Lestat manipulates him into drinking from him at least once a week as a solution. (and that's why he's more powerful than his book counterpart when he's not completely starving himself) 🤔

By the way, since this is the middle of the season, I'd like to say I think this is overall my least favorite episode so far. Mostly from the technical side, but I still love how they sprinkle hints of Claudia's own personality. I think my most favorite episode overall is Ep 1. I just love how their built Louis' personality in it. The performance is crazy, and the directing set the tone of the rest of the season. The directing in Ep 3 is top notch as well, especially towards the end. You really could feel the growing tension. The writing weaving all this history and race problem into Louis' personal life is genius as well.

The clock sound burned her ears. If there was something in life that she loved was to sleep. She turned to the left side where Giaro's body slept the night before. He wasn't there anymore, maybe because he knew how to respect the hour of his appointments. Not that he needed to. With that face of his, everyone could tolerate him being late. She stretched her arm, reaching for her iPhone to finally stop that damn sound. Finally. She took a deep breath and exhaled in relief. Her messages app was full of texts: people from the photograph studio, a few friends, clients, her brothers, Giaro:

'Have a meeting today. Had to leave earlier to wash my hair. Call you later, xx'

She smiled, if he said he would call, he would. She continued to scroll: Martin was composing a new song, Louis invited her to ski, Daniel made a strawberry pie... An unknown number sent her a file. Weird. It could be a virus or a scam, but she opened it anyway.

'Hope we can see each other again soon ;)' 

Was written with a linked file of tickets for São Paulo along with one for Brazilian GP. "What the heck..." she mumbled clicking on the file to see if that was real. "So he thinks that he can buy my attention with first class flights for a tropical country and a VIP pass to formula 1?" she thought. That was a silly thing for him to think. But also meant Lando wanted to see her again. But not in Mexico.

'Don't want your other ladies to see me with you in Mexico? Lol

She replied, already ignoring the invitation in her mind. Nobody could buy her attention. She placed her phone on the mattress and went to a calming morning bubble tub bath.

She prepared the tub for her bath with Indian jasmine bath salt, Victoria's Secret honey & lavender body scrub, and added some petals for finishing, then went back to the room to have a book when her phone started to ring. Lando. Her heart stopped for 3 seconds then started to beat like crazy. She grabbed the phone and picked it up. "You know you should be flattered. I rescheduled all of them for next year only to see you in Brazil" "I... them?" "the hypothetical 'other ladies' you mentioned" She took a deep breath "This is very comforting" she said ironically and he pictured her rolling her eyes. He chuckled "I'm just kidding. Daniel told me you are in Amsterdam till next week. But if you can make it I will be happy to welcome you at the paddock in Mexican lands. Just let me know". She arched an eyebrow, it was too much kindness coming from him. She didn't forget about Austin yet "He's right. I'm stuck here with work. But I don't know...." "Why not?" "Don't you think Brazil is a little too far?" "But it will be my birthday!" He pouted "I'm pouting right now" she giggled, how good it was to hear her giggle "I will think about it" "You have the VIP pass, use it with wisdom" "I will". They kept in silence, just listening to each other's breath sound "You know..." He started "It's..." He cleaned his throat "It's good to listen to your voice again" She smiled "Okay" she said almost inaudible "Okay? That's all?" "Yes" "Oh... You're so cold sometimes" He wasn't used to that. It's nice to hear you think I have a nice-hearable voice. Now I have to go, a warm bubble bath waits for me. Bye bye" "By..." Then she hung up. Again. He used to be the one hanging the phone on other people's faces. He could tell she didn't believe him. The bitterness in her 'thank you' was almost tastable. He didn't like that. Which made him want her even more. Was that her game? Play hard for having him hypnotized on her? If it was, it was working well. The poison ran into his bloodstream once and he was asking for more.

In the end, she decided to go. She did some research about Brazil and she ended up curious and passionate about the country, she even learned a few words in Portuguese. She was in the fancy hotel room Lewis booked for her, wearing a white robe and thinking about which movie she would watch. She heard good things about 'Minha mãe é uma peça' and she was interested in practicing the language. She stood up to grab a coconut water box on the minibar when her phone rang. A FaceTime call. I am wearing my green trainers. I look good in them. You should come and take a look yourself". She smiled, then looked at her bag "What's the team's colors" "Green and..." he asked for someone "White. Green and white" "Are you talking about Palmeiras?" "Yeah! Do you know them?" "Are you kidding me?! They're the Italian team in Brazil! I'm joining you, text me the address" he smiled "I can pick you" "You don't have to, we can meet there" he sighed "I won't change your mind, will I?" The game was insane. Palmeiras scored 4 goals on Atletico GO. 4. Lando's number. It was a perfect night for him: the game was good, he gave luck to the team, won a jersey, met the players, they signed his new jersey, he also met the coach, invited him to Interlagos... almost perfect, cause he didn't see her. Such a liar! Probably said she was going for him to stop bothering her. Why does she have to be like that?! Unbelievable. But it was not going to stay like that. He was planning already: he would go to her hotel room and stay outside till she finally decided to go out, then he... A light touch took him off his evil thoughts. He turned around and his eyes were filled with a Heavenly vision: she was actually there, wearing a white delicate blouse, military green cargo pants, a white leather bag, and green Vans trainers, she had white glitter on her face and smelled like a flower. She smiled "Nice jersey. Can I also have one?" "S-sure! I buy you one" "Cute" "When did you get here?" "End of first time" "Why you didn't text me?" "I got tickets for a nice place. And you said you were with a friend, didn't want to disturb" "Stop! I invited you which means I wanted to have you here with me" "I am here now" "Yes. You look beautiful by the way" "Thanks! You too" "So, how about the game?" "Amazing! They are incredible" "You saw? 4 points. I'm also 4" "OMG, that's true!" "yeah" she looked at him, then poked his shoulder "You gave them luck" "Yes, I did" she giggled "Wanna walk?" "Sure". They went out of the Allianz Park "So, what happened to you?" "What do you mean?" "You were all grumpy earlier. Now you're giggly. What happened?" "I just did something I enjoy doing" "So that's the trick?" "yes" "I have to learn what more you enjoy doing. What's it?" "There are tones of things" "Come on, name at least three" "Fine. I like photographing, being in the water and fine dinners with nice people" "Do you prefer beach or pool?" "Beach" "you know how to spend your time" "My time is valuable. I really choose how and with who I spend my time carefully" "You're spending your time with me right now" "I know" "So I'm worthy, huh?" "Shut up!" "There's the grumpy you again" "she rolled her eyes "By the way, thanks for invinting me. I really enjoyed the game" "Thanks for coming. Even though we didn't watch it together" she stopped walking "I am here right now" he turned to face her "Yes..." he mumbled, then leaned to kiss her. Fuck. She shouldn't be kissing him. She should be putting a limit on the whole damn thing. Making a line and telling him to not cross it in any circumstances. But, shit, Lando was so charming and was such a good kisser. And worst, she liked him so she couldn't help herself. That way, she kissed him back, grabbed his neck, and pulled the hair on his nape. His hand traveled from her back, to her waist to her hips. Their kiss felt like Heaven, so soft but still intense. When they parted, he smirked and she giggled "I would like to take you out," he said against her lips "What?" "Fine dinner with a nice person" "So you're not coming" "Haha very funny" "It's funny to me" "So, what do you say?" "Will think about it" "Okay... hum, shall we go?" "Sure" they walked back to the stadium in silence, then each of them followed their separate ways.

Lando's phone rang unstoppably. He tried to ignore it, but the person on the other line persisted. He grumbled, turned to the left, and tried to reach his phone with his eyes still closed. He picked up without even seeing who it was "Good morning, birthday boy" Was he too sleepy or was it her voice? "Am I dreaming or is it really your voice?" "It's actually me. Can we meet?" he took his phone away from his ear: 6:12AM. She had disappeared for the past 2 days and now was calling him at 6:12AM "You know it's only 6:12, right?" "Yes" "6:12! In the morning!" "So?" he pulled his blanket to the side, getting up already "Couldn't you call me an hour later?" "Are you complaining? I can cancel" "No. I'm going, just tell me where" "The lobby" "The lobby?" "Yes" "Of the hotel I'm staying? Or yours?" "Yours" "Okay. Will be there in 20" "20? The princess is going to the spa? Just dress up and come down" "You're delusional if you think I won't shower for seeing you" "Be here in 10" "But..." "Figure it out", then she hung up "That's because it's my birthday, imagine if it wasn't" he complained about her rudeness to himself.

"It passed 13 minutes!" "I get ready on my time" she chuckled "Happy birthday, Lando!" she showed her hands which were hidden behind her back "You bought me a cake?" "I did. Open it" he opened the white box. It was a beautiful strawberry cake. It had white coating and strawberries at the top in the place of candles. Seems delicious. Thank you" "It was nothing" "Want to share it with me?" "Sure" "Let's go" he offered his hand which she grabbed. He guided them to the elevator "Where are we going?" "Rooftop"'. They were sitting at the hotel's rooftop eating together "São Paulo has a nice view" "Agree" "Aren't you sad for spending your birthday away from your family and friends?" "Nah. I mean, there's not much I can do about it. Also, I'm happy to be here. And for having you by my side" she blushed "I just don't get why you woke me up so early" "You have appointments later. Didn't want our meeting to be rushed" he smiled "Where have you been these last 2 days?" "Touring. Meet up with Lewis too. Why?" "Missed you" "Cute" "Will I see you later?" "Not today" "When, then?" "Tomorrow" he looked at her "I can live with that" she took a small package from her hoodie's pocket "Here. Is a small thing, but hope you like it" he opened it: a Palmeiras keychain. "I adore it. Thank you" she smiled and then laid her head on his shoulder "Did you think about that thing I asked you the other night?" "I am thinking still" "How's it going? How are my chances?" "Very very low" "Damn. Can I do something to try to get my chances higher?" "You can try" he touched her face and pulled it for him, leaving a breathtaking kiss on her lips "So?" Lando turned around "Heya!" She jogged to him and gave him a hug. He pressed her against his body in a tight hug. "So happy to see you. Thought you were runaway again" "Well" she separated from him "I am here, right?" "Thank God" she smiled "I've thought about that invitation" "Which?" "The one you made outside Allianz Park the other day" "About asking you out?" "Yes" "Hum, what about that?" "Guess I'll accept it" he smiled, fully "Really?" She was waiting for him to finish dressing. His phone, watch and wallet were with her. Lando's phone buzzed. She didn't mean to look at it, but the message popped up in front of her eyes. It was from Max Fewtrell:

'How was with the girl?'

Did he talk about her to his best mate? It was very thoughtful of him. When Lando came back she smiled "I'm back "Here's your stuff" "Thanks " he kissed her "Have a great fly" "Thank you. You too" "See you in London, then" "I text you" "Okay" he kissed her forehead and made his way to the vehicle which was transporting him to the airport.

'I can't believe this actually is going to work' she said to herself, daydreaming. 

While Lando texted Max back:

'Good. She couldn't even speak English, tho'

'Did you make out by mimics???' ~Max

'Somehow, yes' ~Lando

'LMAO. See you next week, bro' ~Max

Then, he blocked his phone and laid his head on the seat. "If she finds out, she kills me" he thought.

3. What fandoms do you write for?

One Direction. I use the BBC Radio 1 RPF tag for pairings with Nick Grimshaw, and I used the Shawn Mendes (Musician) one a few times, too.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

you came into my life, caught up in your love affair, baby, you're the end of june, an honest mistake and tell me what you need

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

Yes! I love replying to comments, even when I feel awkward about it. I really like getting replies from authors, I find it discouraging not to, so that's partly why. But a nice comment really makes me day, and I want to let people know I appreciate that. But I might miss one occasionally, and sometimes I don't reply if I think the commenter is being rude.

6. What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

It's probably my first fic, This Town. The whole fic is Niall processing Zayn leaving the band – but more importantly leaving him, and they don't get back together in the end. It's not my fault, Niall wrote a sad song! But also I was in the thick of grieving, so. That's what happened.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

I almost, almost always write happy endings, so I could really pick this one at random lol, but I'll go with enough to make a girl blush. I really love how far Louis has come at the end of that fic and how happy she and Niall are together and how good they are together. Plus, I wrote a happy little timestamp for Harry and Zayn (count me in).

8. Do you get hate on fics?

I've gotten comments that don't sit well with me, but not really. I did post a fic set at the beginning of COVID before I knew how bad it would get, and someone messaged me to say they were sorry about the hate it was getting... but I didn't see any?

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

yes! I write smut that I find hot, girl direction and boy direction. When I started writing, I felt like I wrote absolutely terrible smut and I worked really hard to figure it out. Practice makes progress, baby.

10. Do you write crossovers? What the craziest one you've written?

I've written a couple of reality show AUs with the actual people from the shows in the fic – you came into my life and you wanna be on top? Nothing too crazy!

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

I think someone stole a shiall one-shot and posted it on Wattpad. Weirdly, I feel like I haven't made it because that doesn't happen to me more often.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

yes! Most recently, someone asked if they could translate pink like the paradise found into Russian and they were so lovely.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

I took part in a round robin for Nic's (@louandhazaf) birthday a few years ago! (Louis referring to merlot as the basic bitch of wines was me!) Co-writing has come up as an idea a couple of times, but the timing or idea etc has never been right.

14. What's your all-time favorite ship?

I kind of have to fall deep for a pairing to write them, so I love a lot of pairings! Aside from larry, I think gryles might be my favorite. Something about the pining best friends who can't be together because of... REASONS just gets me where I live.

15. What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

I had an idea for a lilo exes to lovers AU based on bennifer and I wrote a snippet that I really liked for it, but I felt like I was white washing Jennifer Lopez, if that's the right word? Like you can't separate her from the fact that she's Puerto Rican, so casting Louis in that role didn't feel right. I could try to figure out another way to approach it, but I don't really think I'll feel inspired enough.

16. What are your writing strengths?

I think I'm really good at continuity, and writing scenes with lots of people and involving all of them.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

I always feel like I start sentences with "Niall did this" and "Harry did that" (sorry, writing narry at the moment). So, narration that's not action? Does that make sense?

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I think it can be done effectively. I liked how the French worked in Darling, so it goes. It made sense to include because Harry moved to a country where he didn't speak the language. I tried to make the meaning of the French clear when Harry understood it, but I didn't include translations in the notes because Harry didn't understand a lot, and I wanted the reader in his shoes. I worked really hard on the French because I don't speak it, but I asked @somethingwittyorother to look it over and their feedback was incredibly helpful.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

One Direction!

20. Favorite fic you've written?

It's usually the last fic that I posted, so right now it's Suddenly Last Summer. I had the best time writing it and it was such a fulfilling creative outlet, and I just love it.

love drunk, waiting on a miracle by @hellolovers13 / HelloLovers13 (30k, E, Harry/Louis, Advent fic, acquaintances to lovers, well, more like barista and customer to lovers, though that kinda happens at the beginning, and the focus is more on the development of their relationship, it's so sweet and fluffy and fast paced, it's a fun and lighthearted read that's got that festive spirit too)

Midnight by @kingsofeverything / kingsofeverything (11k, E, Harry/Louis, NYE fic, a/b/o dynamics, alpha Harry, omega Louis, friends to lovers, idiots in love, neighbors, there's more i wanna tag but it's kinda spoilery so I won't, I paused my Christmas reading for this, because everything about this fic is like crack to me, and as soon as I saw Lauren posted it and the tags and summary I had no choice, I had to read it immediately, and I regret absolutely nothing I loved it so very much, It was the perfect way to start the year for me lol)

Love This Christmas by @chloehl10 / lovelarry10 (68k, M, Harry/Louis, Advent fic, strangers to lovers, primary teacher Harry, teacher's assistant Louis, single parent Louis, pining, getting together, this fic was so much fun to read and I loved the details of the class and their working situation as well as outside of work the glimpses we got of their lives, and how it all just came together, this fic was adorable and sweet and i loved it)

Eyes on the Horizon by @uhoh-but-yeah-alright / yeah_alright (12k, E, Harry/Louis, Reverse Bang fic, age difference, older Harry, younger Louis, skydiving instructor Louis, Harry is having a bit of a mid-life crisis of sorts, he's just broken up with his long-term girlfriend, lost his job, and is coming up on a big birthday when he meets Louis, and he's so afraid of being a predator but ohhhhhhhh, he has NO need to worry about that hah, this fic was so incredibly fun and honestly quite educational about skydiving imo lol, but also so fucking hot it was SO good)

It's Thursday. Let's Get (un)Dressed. by @bananaheathen / bananaheathen (9k, E, Harry/Louis, NYE fic, tiktok, ootd tiktoker Harry, freshly broken up Louis, emotional hurt/comfort, Louis is pretty damn depressed which makes sense considering the situation, but he gets out of it and is okay!, genderfluid Harry, closeted Harry, this fic i'm kinda marveling at the fact it's only 9k because so many feelings and so much was put into it, it felt so much longer, and it takes up more space in my head and heart than I expected a 9k fic to be able to fill, but it's just, this fic is very important to me and i ADORE IT, SO MUCH, i keep thinking about this harry and louis as i'm going about my day sometimes, it's kinda ridiculous, anyway love love love and please read it and scream with me about how amazing it is thanks lol)

Wanted: Dog Walker by @louandhazaf / YesIsAWorld (6k, G, Harry/Louis, Reverse Bang fic, age difference, older Louis, younger Harry, silver fox Louis, dog walker Harry, neighbors, this fic is short and sweet and such fun, I love how Harry throws himself into walking Clifford, and how he and Louis start to develop a relationship with each other, it's very sweet and easy and honestly kind of precious)

Snow on the beach by @onlythesweet / onlytheclouds (9k, G, Harry/Louis, Christmas fic, based on Hallmark movies in general, so it's exactly what you'd expect, the busy city guy spends his holidays with his family in a small, rural town, and gets off on the wrong foot with the town's darling, only for them to fall in love hehehe, and that's exactly what you get, featuring Louis as the city guy and Harry as the town's darling, this was such a sweet fic and had a lot of feelings mixed in it was lovely)

Odd Dogs by @londonfoginacup / LadyLondonderry (4k, G, Zayn/Niall, Christmas fic, strangers to lovers, dog rescue, lots of dogs but especially a very special and important idiot of a dog, we love her very much a lot hahaha, if you're familiar with Emmu's special quirky shorter fics then you know about what to expect, and yet this fic just somehow goes one up, and i seriously almost woke up sleeping members of my household because of my laughter and teh sounds I was making trying to hold it in, this fic just hit me in the funny bone in a very specific way and Emmu's humor was perfection here, very very sweet and fun fic)

While the Moon is Bright by @tommokat / tommokat (1k, T, Harry/Louis, Christmas fic, girl direction, speed dating, meet cute, this fic was such a fun little snippet of their lives and I loved the hints of what might be to come that were sprinkled in too)

Baking Spirits Bright by @beelou / cherrylarry (2k, G, Liam/Harry, Christmas fic, youtuber Harry, established relationship, baking, well it's hot chocolate from scratch which is more cooking but that's fine, fluff, this fic was a pure and sugary confectionary treat to read, it was fun to see what their relationship was like and how fun it is for them too, you know?)

All I know is I'm in trouble ('cause the atmosphere's so cold) by @so-why-let-your-voice-be-tamed / we_are_the_same (8k, T, Harry/Louis, Zayn/Liam, Christmas fic, enemies to lovers, miscommunication, meet ugly, haha, skiing holiday, this fic was so good, I was trying so hard to figure out what exactly happened to make them so cold towards each other, especially when it was so obvious how much they loved their best friends and the fact their besties had fallen hard and fast, and then you learn and it's just, very sweet from there on out imo, this felt like a safe and soft space to hide out in for a bit)

'Sno(w) joke by @sun-tomato / SunTomato (6k, NR, Harry/Louis, Christmas fic, snowstorm, stranded, in a library of all places hahaha, strangers to lovers, cuddling, this fic was just so sweet and easy, and Lewis was of course the silly side-bit character we all love him being, it was just overall a fun and kinda silly but also heartwarming fic)

Ho Ho Hopefully by @larrieblr / safetyfilm (5k, T, Harry/Louis, Christmas fic, Harry is one of Santa's elves, Louis is a human he's been assigned to, pining, emotional hurt/comfort, strangers to lovers, this fic is so warm and tentative and sweet, and Louis is so lovely and exhausted and Harry just wants to adore him, it's so soft!!!)

Snow Squalls & Kitty Paws by @littleroverlouis / littleroverlouis (9k, G, Harry/Louis, Christmas fic, cat cafe, cat cafe owners Louis and Zayn, pining, snow storm, snowed in, acquaintances to lovers, this fic was so fun and such a joy to read, i loved reading it so much and it was like a hidden safe place i just happened on, it was so sweet)

If you ever feel alone (Don't) by @beardyboyzx / beardyboyzx (10k, G, Harry/Louis, Christmas fic, this fic is so heavy and sad almost but also so heartwarming?, Louis is clearly depressed and stressed and it makes sense why he's feeling that way, but also his friends are trying so hard to make sure he knows he's still loved and wanted, and so appreciative of the efforts he's able to make you know?, it's just, this fic was so lovely i adored it)

Louis' "Harry" Christmas by @chai-hat-tea / The_Halcyonic_Lachesist (10k, M, Harry/Louis, Christmas fic, friends to lovers, idiots in love, hurt/comfort, like literal hurt, Louis injures himself and Harry cares for him, it's so very sweet, but also Harry's family helps them realize how stupid they've been, because they've basically been in a relationship without even realizing it lolll, i love it so much)

Mistletoe Cove by @wabadabadaba / wabadabadaba (5k, G, Harry/Louis, Christmas fic, snowmen competition, strangers to lovers, this fic is so sweet and I love how it's based almost entirely around the snowmen they're trying to build, but they still manage to flirt despite that, it's so fun and silly and lighthearted)

The Elf who Saved Christmas by @ladyaj-13 / LadyAJ_13 (3k, G, Harry/Louis, Christmas fic, strangers to lovers, older brother Louis, Harry works at a Santa setup at the mall, and Louis doesn't know the rules about appointments, and it's so very cute, Harry and Niall are so funny but also I would imagine risking getting into trouble, but also I almost cried out of relief when they did what they did for Louis, I loved reading about how sweet they were without even knowing Louis!)

ltwt manila 2022 😔😔😔😔😔😔🫶🏼 it meant the world to me 😭 louis was so happy and the crowd energy was so good. i don't know if anyone went live for my show but believe me when i say it was loudddd sksks louis was chatty and smiley and interactive and of course so so pretty. vocals were on point i could actually cry recalling the memories of him singing but Ugh it was 😔🫶🏼 those couple of hours were one of the best times of my life for real not even joking

1. L and H work in the same office and H is very into the work and doesn't have social life. The office has a secret Santa and H has to gift his co-worker (Sheila? I think?). Louis helps him pick something ocean themed picked at a stationary I think.

2. Louis goes for grocery shopping when his house (tw: minor character death) burns down when he is very young. Later whenever he is stressed, he keeps repeating the grocery list his mom told him that day.

When he finds out his only competition for a very desired promotion is Louis, he spirals into a mess of trying to be a better coworker and person right before Christmas in hopes that he can outdo Louis' effortless effect on his office. If he manages to get his head out of his ass along the way, it’ll be a holiday miracle.

“Harry, I-I’m so sorry…” Louis stutters out, trying to keep his voice level and even, to portray a depiction of strength, but with the way Harry is looking at him, staring at him like he has a personal passage way straight to Louis’ soul, it’s so hard, nearly impossible.

That simple opening phrase, that short introductory acknowledgement that is often rushed out so easily, painlessly, at a safe distance. Giving a doctor the ability to portray empathy without true emotion, without feeling the full brunt and sheer force of the underlying pain itself.

But Louis feels it, he feels the crushing agony laced behind the phrase, he feels the weight of the painful words slipping from his lips, the cause and effect that the three-word expression holds. The distantly empty “I’m so sorry” that doctors throw out in self-preservation, isn’t at all empty for him. Louis recognizes it, he understands it, he feels it.

Do you think Eleanor will post something for Louis' birthday? I personally think so bc if not it would be too weird that she is still "living" in his public house but she doesn't post anything for her bf's birthday. Or maybe she will be spending Christmas with the Tomlinsons so she doesn't post anything, I would prefer this to last year Christmas tbh. Either way this year has been almost absolutely silent from elounor so she posting something doesn't bother me too much

No one tagged me, this just looked fun and I’m avoiding things while my minions watch Wall-E

1. Are you named after anyone? No because I’m the middle child. Which means I have the most popular girl name for the year I was born. YAY. 😬

2. When was the last time you cried? Last night. Mr. Schmem and I were having a pointless argument and I got very emotional. Don’t worry, we’re all good now, but splitting hairs when I’m in a bad mood is what I do best. 

3. Do you have kids? Oh, you mean, minions that look like kinda like me and talk back incessantly? why yes, I do believe I have some of those wandering under foot. 

4. Do you use sarcasm a lot? When I’m pissed off, absolutely. I become a sarcastic hissing cat and I kind of hate that about myself, but it’s a coping mechanism and it gives me a dopamine high to be a bitch sometimes. 

5. What’s the first thing you notice about people?  It’s mostly subconscious and I’m a human so I definitely judge the book by its cover, at least for a millisecond before I decide whether to keep being judgmental, or feed myself the override codes. 

6. What’s your eye color? Blue, but not the pretty kind. The murky, grey-ish blue that looks blaaaahhh/colorless from far away. You have to get up REAL CLOSE to appreciate the shade of blue. Mr. Schmem likes it though, so that’s good. 

7. Scary movies or happy ending? Both. There is a time and a place, they are equally satisfying in their own context.   

8. Any special talents? Monkey see, monkey do. I’m one of those “jack of all trades, master of none” people who picks up new skills and tinkers with them until I feel like I’ve gotten what I wanted out of them before moving on. I think it’s my way of coping with the fact that I’m not much of a traveller (not ‘cause I don’t wanna be, but because of my adorable minion baggage and the fact that I’m a broke ass millennial.)

9. Where were you born? St. Louis, Missouri. I’ve lived a lot of places, though and I don’t remember it well. 

10. What are your hobbies? Outside of fandom??  Sourdough baking. Quilting. Knitting. Sewing. Hiking. Yoga. Reading. (I do 50 about books a year in addition to fic reading). Netflix and Chill. Cooking delicious food that my minions refuse to eat. Decluttering my house (I am an optimistic minimalist enthusiast who is always battling with holiday and birthday gifts and the thousands of papers they send home with minions from school.) Painting, sometimes, but abstract, not figure/portrait stuff. 

11. Do you have any pets?  No. Allergies out the wazoo here. Best we could do if we wanted is a reptile, amphibian, or fish. Hard pass on all of the above. 

12. What sports do you play/have you played? I suck at sports, mostly because I have no interest in them. If I did have an interest, I’m confident I could learn. I will not play volleyball though, under any circumstances. Too many broken glasses. 

13. How tall are you? 5'7″

14. Favorite subject at school? Science, specifically the life variety. Don’t even try to talk Physics to me. Oh! and I LOVED Statistics, surprisingly. 

15. Dream job? Since I burnt out as an educator, I’m literally open to anything flexible, that pays, and that I can put down at the end of the day and not think about until tomorrow. (mental health reasons)

Hi Gina!!! so i was this anon lol, and my birthday was yesterday and i wanted to tell you something funny that my mom did for me!! She decorated a wall in my living room with photos of louis and harry and she tried to give me things that were blue and green themed!!! it was so cute and she knows me so well lol!!! i also got a new laptop for my birthday and now i’m working on writing a lot!! for one of my english classes, we had to do a final short story. so i’ve been working on making the short story i wrote better!! (it’s about two girls who go on a date, but one of them becomes sick and the other takes care of her sksnfoejide it’s so cute) i’m also planning out a larry one shot idea that i want to write!!! i’m still fairly new at writing, but i’ve definitely seen a lot of improvement since last year, probably because of all the fics i literally consume LMAO!! i also happened to decorate my new laptop with stickers!!!! i was really hesitant about putting the larry stuff on there, mostly because there are a lot of solo harries at my school and i don’t wanna be glared at. but i graduate soon, so i don’t really care anymore!! i hope you have a wonderful day!!!!!! <3333

Eleanor left London and is flying to Dubai and Louis left Mexico and is probably going to LA for the kids bday. It could be hilarious if he goes back to London and was just waiting for Elk to leave to sell the whole "we just broke up" vibe. Funny he will likely meet Brianas new boyf too at the kids bday who will have now spend more bdays with F than Louis' fam! Anyway I expect him to leave LA soonish because god forbids he and Harry are in the same city and Harry should be arriving early next week. So at least thanks to the residency shows we can expect Louis to not be spotted in LA for a while lol

I think they’re going with the i official narrative that they’ve been broken up since summer, some time after Glastonbury, and only now announced it.

The birthday thing - maybe that will be a good opportunity for a dispute. The new boyfriend acting like the new baby daddy and Louis doesn’t like that at all, “You can try all you want but you will NEVER by my son’s father!!” leading to custody battle yada yada yada.

About him leaving LA - I disagree. They’ve been simultaneously in LA very recently in November 2021 (their teams even stayed at the same hotel 🤭) so I don’t think he’ll be rushing out of LA!
