Schlocktoberfest XIII - Day 9: Satan's Blade
Satan’s Blade (1984)
Trailer:
*Spoilers Throughout*
What’s This About: A kick ass poster wasted on a shit movie. The recurring tale of the old eighties video store.
Here are some of my observations as I watched the film:
With SFX like this red tint over the opening shot – I think we’re in for a masterpiece here.
Great opening theme, very 80’s synth and it sounds exactly like a Stranger Things…

So they’ve decided on you to fuck up my work.
- Ian Fleming to Sean Connery on being cast as James Bond
By the time auditions for the role of James Bond in the first 007 movie, Dr No, were held in 1961, Connery was a well-established and highly regarded serious actor, but Fleming reportedly didn’t think he was right for the part of 007.
Connery said that Patrick McGoohan, James Mason, Rex Harrison, Stewart Granger and Richard Burton (all approved by Fleming as being suitable for the role) were ruled out, for various reasons. The casting wasn’t going well and had even been advertised in stage magazines.
Eventually, Connery was taken in to see the casting directors and he got the part. However, Fleming wasn’t happy with their choice, reportedly saying privately he was nothing but an “over-developed stunt man”, describing him as “unrefined”. Connery reciprocated the feelings, calling Fleming “a real snob”, but admitting he was “interesting”.
Connery was surprised to get the part, because he had heard how Fleming felt about him. Apparently, Dana Broccoli, wife of producer Albert “Cubby” Broccoli, was instrumental in getting Connery the part, as she was convinced he was the right man. Fleming’s girlfriend, Blanche Blackwell, also said he had the right “charisma” for the role.
Fleming’s frustration over the direction his series was being taken was revealed when he confronted first time director Terence Young at a United Artists function in London.
Fleming squared up to the realities of an untested director guiding a half-known ex-labourer star into James Bond’s elegant world.
Mr Fleming vented: “So they’ve decided on you to fuck up my work.”
But Mr Young “was not shaken” and told him: “Let me put it this way, Ian. I don’t think anything you’ve written is immortal as yet.
Ian Fleming wrote relatively little about Bond’s style, sketching in only the briefest of descriptions while devoting pages to the overblown outfits of Bond’s foes. A little goes a long way. Terence Young took Connery to Anthony Sinclair, a tailor on London’s Conduit Street at the northern end of Savile Row. Sinclair was Young’s tailor. He specialised in what he called the “Conduit Cut,” a fitted hourglass shape to the jacket that suited fit, military men. It was deliberately at odds with the boxy fashion suits worn by most young men at the dawn of the swinging sixties. Cutting like that stood out as slightly behind the times but reassuringly expensive.
Next Young took him to Turnbull and Asser, his shirtmaker on Jermyn Street several blocks away south of Piccadilly. There, Connery was fitted with the same pale blue cotton poplin shirts and knitted navy silk ties that Young wore day in day out himself. It was Young who gave Bond his turned back “cocktail” cuffs, a sartorial detail that at the time defined a man as both well-to-do yet rather rakish.
Bond’s style was extremely precise, the spare but expensive, handmade wardrobe of a military man, not overtly fashionable but not fuddy-duddy, either. It met and exceeded accepted standards of dress while remaining deliberately unsensational. Fashion in all its preening frivolity was always reserved for Bond’s vain, egotistical nemeses like Goldfinger, Blofeld, or Largo. As a recipe for worry-free style, Connery’s Bond defined and still defines the clean-cut ideal of a wardrobe that transcends fashion and becomes eternal.
If Bond was the establishment man in town, the exotic and tropical locations around the globe were the backdrop for him to get a bit more experimental with his off-duty wardrobe. It didn’t always work. That said, Connery fares better than all succeeding Bonds as his wardrobe for the beach is still as spare and restrained as his working day clothes. Later Bonds fall prey to the gravitational pull of fashion and pay the price. Roger Moore suffers from this and unfairly, I think. It’s not his fault he got the gig in the hedonistic 1970s. But just about the only thing Connery’s Bond gets wrong is in Goldfinger, where he appears in Miami in a sky-blue terry-cloth onesie. Somehow, he gets away with it.
In the end it was a cocktail: Connery’s suave style with his own rough edges poking through that gave Bond his bite. It resonated with the socially and geographically expanding world of the 1960s; Connery was a forerunner of a whole generation of working-class British actors made good - like Michael Caine and Terence Stamp - who personified a rougher and racier sexuality on screen. In clothing terms, Connery’s Bond gave all young man an easily referenced visual encyclopedia of how to dress well without ever overdoing it.
The two didn’t meet until filming was underway. Connery’s performance won the writer over immediately. In fact, Fleming liked Connery so much that he later gave the spy a Scots heritage to mirror the actor’s own. In his novel, You Only Live Twice, published in March 1964, Fleming wrote that Bond’s father was from Glencoe.

Lyrics:
Songwriter:
Hold my body tight
Body
Body
Body tight
Oh hold me
I c u over there
Body would I love 2 share oh
I hold u in my dreams
But then I wake up
Just a dream
I'd do anything 4 u
Steal a star down from the sky
Write a song 4 birds 2 sing
All I ask of u yeah
Just 1 thing baby
Just 1 thing
Just 1 thing
Hold my body tight
All night
Never let me go
Hold my body tight
All night
Never tell me no
Hold me
My body's all alone
Need someone 2 take me home
Talk until the morning light
Don't wanna do ya
Just hold ya tight
I'd do anything 4 u
Steal a star down from the sky
Write a song 4 birds 2 sing
All I ask of u yeah
Just 1 thing baby
Just 1 thing
Just 1 thing
Hold my body tight
All night
Never let me go
Hold my body tight
All night
Never tell me no
Hold me
So come and put them arms around me
Hold me real close
Like an aura
Surround meI need 2 feel ya body
The warmth of ya skin
I need 2 know the beauty
The secret within
And while another would be penetrating
I'll still be stimulating
Contemplating on a vision vibrating
Waiting with the key
2 set your feelings free
Watcha gonna do 4 me
'CosI'd do anything 4 u
Steal a star down from the sky
Write a song 4 birds 2 sing
All I ask of u yeah
Just 1 thing baby
Just 1 thing
Just 1 thing
Hold my body tight
Hold that body
All night
Never let me go
Hold my body tight
Hold that body
All night
Never tell me no
Hold me
Hold my body tight
Hold that body
All night
Never let me go
Hold my body tight
Hold that body
All night
Hold my body tight
Matt Rowe / Richard Frederick Stannard / Anthony Michael Mortimer
SongFacts:
"Hold My Body Tight" is a song by English boy band East 17, released in June 1995 as the fifth single from their second album Steam (1994). It was the only single from the album to miss the UK top 10, peaking at number 12. Outside the UK, it reached the top 10 in Ireland, Israel, Japan and Lithuania.
The pan-European magazine Music & Media commented: “Anyone can see that daily push-ups keep these guys fitter than any Olympic athlete. If that's not proof enough of their staying power, check out the vitality that Steam's hot swingbeat track exudes." Music Week's Alan Jones described it as "a gently smacking mid-tempo groove" and added: " It's far from being their most melodic song, rather nicely harmonized but a little boring. Definitely not the one to get them back to number one." RM Dance Update's James Hamilton called it a "plaintive jackswing jiggler"

36 Disturbing True Crime Stories of Murder and Deception
Readers Love This Series - Over 7,000 Five-Star Ratings on Amazon & Goodreads
Three Book Collection: Volumes 7, 8, and 9 of the True Crime Case Histories Series (2022)
*** This series can be read in any order ***If you’re a fan of true crime, you’re undoubtedly familiar with the big-name cases: Ted Bundy, BTK, David Berkowitz, Christopher Watts, Diane Downs, Casey Anthony, Jeffrey Dahmer, Jodi Arias, Ed Gein, etc. The list of well-known, notorious cases throughout history is seemingly endless. Books, websites, podcasts, streaming television series, and magazines are filled with their abhorrent tales of mayhem. They’re some of the most foul killers the world has ever known.
In my books, I do my best to find stories you may not have heard of. To do this, I count on my readers to send me stories that may have gone forgotten and aren't found all over the internet.
Inside, you'll find 36 True Crime stories from the 100 years. Many of which you may never have heard of.
You'll read the story of five-year-old Stephanie Hebert, who walked only three houses down her quiet suburban sidewalk and disappeared forever. Her case went cold for forty years before other children from her neighborhood came forward in their adulthood with information leading to the killer.
There’s the story of the sadistic mother who viewed her children only as the spawn of their demon father, torturing them for their entire short lives.
You’ll also read of the deranged husband and wife team who started their own cult and made it their life’s mission to rid the world of witches.
Another story tells the disheartening tale of a toddler’s skeleton found in a suitcase on the side of the road. Motorcyclists discovered her mother’s skeleton more than 600 miles away. Five years had passed, with no one even realizing they were missing.
There’s also the heartbreaking story of a single mom, drowning in debt, who did the unthinkable for insurance money.
Many of the stories in this book feature women killers, three of whom took the time to meticulously dismember their victims—a task that can take great strength. Another woman manipulated her two teenage boys into killing for her.
Plus many more disturbing stories.
The stories in this volume are shocking and exhibit human behavior at its absolute worst. Pure evil. However, these things really happen in the world. We may never understand what goes on in a killer’s mind, but at least we can be better informed.
Included in this volume:
Stephen McDaniel, Lauren Giddings, Leonard Tyburksi, Dorothy Tyburksi, Cheryl Knuckle, Greg Rowe, Ellen Boehm, Bevan Spencer von Einem, Alan Barnes, Neil Muir, Peter Stogneff, Richard Kelvin, Omaima Nelson, Betty Freiberg, Kimberly Hricko, Steven Hricko, Hilma Marie Witte, Sky McDonough, Leanna Walker, Carol Carlson, Daniel Carlson, Gerard John Schaefer, Evans Ganthier, Rebecca Koster, Gary Vintner, Mikhail Drachev, Chris Andrews, Dennis Tsoukanov, Sean Southland, Konstantin Simberg, Jason Massey, Brian King, Christina Benjamin, Sheila Keen, Debbie Warren, Michael Warren, Marlene Ahrens, Charles Albright, Travis Lewis, Martha McKay, Grant Amato, Cody Amato, Chad Amato, Margaret Amato, Robert Willy Pickton, Marty Dill, Heather Teague, Joe Ball, Jared Chance, Ashley Young, Theresa Knorr, Robert Knorr, William Knorr, Jason Vendrick Franklin, Stephanie Hebert, John Joubert, Danny Jo Eberle, Christopher Walden, Ricky Stetson, Anna Maria Cardona, Lazaro Figueroa, Charles Schmid, Jeremy Gipson, Jessica Thornsberry, Justina Morley, Domenic Coia, Nicholas Coia, Eddie Batzig, Jason Sweeney, Angela Stoltd, Jimmy Sheaffer, Vincent Tabak, Joanna Yeates, Edmund Arne Matthews, Lisa Ann Mather, Daniel Holdom, Karlie Pearce-Stevenson, Khandalyce Pearce-Stevenson, James Carson, Michael Bear, Suzan Bear, Susan Barnes Carson

Films I’ve Loved This Year
I have already written reviews on some of them (not seen in this post), that you can already read here. So make sure to also do that.
I’m completely laid out in bed extremely sick, I thought between the delusional fevers, bomb exploding headaches, and literally feeling like I’m dying, I’d share the other films I’ve absolutely enjoyed watching this year.
I started up a separate account via Instagram to just post film, but having multiples is beginning to be too much, so from now on any other film content aside from the blog here will be on @ starrymayx.
So to start off the list here we go…
These 90s “Noir” films started my whole new movie Escapades, and I’m so glad they did -
Bad Influence, Guilty As Sin, Pacific Heights, Whispers in The Dark, Dream Lover, Untamed Heart, White Palace
Here are the others…
Thrashin - 1986
Starring: Josh Brolin, Pamela Gidley
Brooke McCarter (RIP homie), Sherilyn Fenn, Robert Rusler, & Josh Richman
Anthony Kiedis + RHCP
Tony Hawk, Kevin Staab, Mike McGill, Jimmy Star
What I liked: There was so much awesomeness in this film and a feel good story of triumph. Basically it’s about two skateboarding gangs, having beef, mix in lots of skating, graffiti, punk rock aesthetics, and a love story, and you have yourself a pretty badass film. Plus they overcome their rivalry in the LA Massacre challenge, and there’s even several rat tails. 🤣 Definitely worth a watch!
I really wish I could skateboard. I would have been so rad. To all my skater friends and Bo’s over the years, mad respect. 🤘🏻
The House on Sorority Row - 1983
Director: Mark Rosman
I swear Scream Queens was influenced by this film.
I really liked it. Loved the lighting, still had a seventies type feel, storyline was really good. Definitely a film to check out if you like really good horror, without all the super special effects.
*For any strobe light sensitive people* like myself out there, there is a scene where it’s wild,
Pump Up The Volume ✊🏻 1990
Director Allan Moyle
This movie is 🔥 Definitely a pioneer for all things talk radio but from a non-narrative perspective. Films like this and indie radio programs paved the way for our now podcasts. I loved the way it was written, the development of the characters personal selves, and breaking the rules.
I love me some Christian Slater 💓
The soundtrack is also amazing!
From Richard Hell, Leonard Cohen, Beastie Boys, Ice T, & more! I’ll link the soundtrack in my stories.
*trigger warning: there is a scene that deals with suicide and those scenes always get me. So I wanted to mention that.
Out of Bounds - 1986
Director- Richard Tuggle
Cinematography - Bruce Surtees
Starring: Anthony Michael Hall
Siouxsie and the Banshees 🤘🏻💓
& Meatloaf (in like 3 scenes)
What I liked: The cinematography of downtown LA & Venice Beach California, (actually the whole film is beautifully done). The 80’s colors, Dizz’s home, her style. The fact that Anthony Michael Hall was a badass hero, taking down a heroin drug man with his knife throwing skills. Really good film.
2 Days in The Valley - 1996
Written and Directed by: John Herzfeld.
Starring: James Spader, Eric Stolz & Charlize Theron
Synopsis: 48 hours of intersecting lives and crimes in The Valley of Los Angeles.
Why I liked it: Artsy Cinematography, James Spader obviously, and the correlation of numerous parties all being connected, going through individual stuff but being thrown into the mix of chaos. Plus sunglasses just seem to add viable cred to it. Why are sunglasses so cool yet mysterious?
Shampoo - 1975
Director: Hal Ashby
Starting Julie Christie, Goldie Hawn, & Warren Beatty
I throughly enjoyed this film mainly due to the Jim Morrison/Sharon Tate style vibes it gave off throughout, and all the stylish decor/fashion. The Morrison looking guy played by (Warren Beatty) is basically a lover to many of his women hair clients (he does hair).
I really appreciate the 70’s swank and aesthetic appeal in this film. I’m also obsessed with Julie Christie’s glam Tate starlet look and I wish I could pull off bangs! Goldie Hawn is also in here and a younger Carrie Fisher.
From the 70s eye shadow, purple outfit I want, the main girls style, glamorous hair, river grotto, la house party with body paint and strobe lights (which that part I had to turn away - sensitive), it still rocked.
Based in the LA canyon/hills it’s definitely worth a watch to see the web of desire and aesthetic unfold. Keep your eye out for the creepy art in one of the scenes that just didn’t quite belong. 😳
Additionally there was some dialogue between two parties in the kitchen about questioning the lead male’s (hairstylist) orientation, and the f word was used a couple times. Didn’t like that part.
Really glad we’ve evolved on how we should identify people and what’s right to say and not to. A person can be gay or even not, but using derogatory terminology to hurt them is very low par. If you still do that. Stop.
Chopping Mall - 1986
Director: Jim Wynorski
Mall Location: Sherman Oaks Galleria
I loved this film. For reals.
Nothing better than a mall unleashing new technology security robots, only to go horribly wrong. Which I already knew where it was going as soon as it started 😂
Anyways a group of mall employee friends and two others throw a party in a bedding home store and get freaky - typical 80s horror, which I love. Then basically the robots go crazy and savage, hunting down all of them in a terminator/stranger things vibe kind of way. The aesthetic, 80s style, and scenery are very appealing, all the way down to even the playboy underwear from Miss Virgina Slims herself. Camel ciggs just won’t cut it. 😂
Lots of greats here, and I hope you check them out if you haven’t seen them.
Happy Filming 😘

Of course, Law’s trip to Berlin wasn’t complete without taking in the Texaco Mike Imaging Center Of Excellence Shirt Furthermore, I will do this Saint Laurent show, too. When it came time for her to play dress up for the front row, the model opted for a brown leather top and skirt. “Wearing anything other than black to a Saint Laurent show felt like a decision,” jokes Law. “I love the combination of the brown tones. The pencil skirt and smooth leather felt so classic and refined—and then Anthony does what he does best by making it sexy, incorporating a low cut neck.” As for her highlights from the menswear collection, Law was drawn to the use of neck ties in the show, and the fluidity that was present throughout. “The movement as they walked with the backlight was incredible,” says Law. “I had two favorite looks One was a vest top with a brown front and black back, and a flowing scarf. I liked the way the front and back felt so separate, but complementary. I also loved the satin T shirt look. I love the shape, material, and fit of the shirt.”
What will Law be up to for the Texaco Mike Imaging Center Of Excellence Shirt Furthermore, I will do this rest of the summer? “When I’m not working, I’ll spend time at my pottery studio,” says Law. “I love summer in London, so I don’t usually feel the need to travel. But I’d always love to go explore Asia if I get the chance—I’ll do that in August.” Last week, in honor of Sex and the City’s 25th anniversary (can you believe it?), Vogue asked readers to vote on their favorite fashion moment from the stylish series—and the official results are now in! In case you missed it, costume designer Molly Rogers—who assisted Patricia Field on the original HBO series, and now heads up the costuming on And Just Like That—selected her 25 favorite fashion looks from the franchise, including moments from the original show, the two subsequent films, and the new spinoff series. On the list? Carrie’s iconic opening sequence tutu, Samantha’s power yellow Mugler suit, Charlotte’s pink strapless “Jackie O” dress, and Miranda’s iconic denim overalls, among others. Vogue then asked readers to weigh in on their favorite. The outfit that came out on top? It’s the white and pink floral print Richard Tyler dress that Carrie wears in season three, episode 18. The pretty design is from Tyler’s resort 2001 collection, and was inspired by the flora of the Caribbean islands. Carrie wears it to meet up with Big at Boathouse in Central Park, where the duo famously trip and fall into the pond together. “We didn’t do many stunts on this show, so this dress makes the list,” says Rogers. “SJP has incredible physical comic timing…and her squeal!”

Raquel Welch, the big-screen star of the 1960s and ’70s who gained fame in movies including Fantastic Voyage, One Million Years B.C., Myra Breckinridge, and many others, died today after a brief illness was confirmed by her reps at Media 4 Management.
Welch’s career spanned more than 50 years, 30 films, and scores of TV series and appearances, including about a dozen visits to The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson spanning two decades and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Imagen Foundation in 2001.
Born Jo Raquel Tejada on September 5, 1940, in Chicago, Welch's family moved to San Diego when she was a toddler on a theatre arts scholarship, and she began her career as a local TV weathercaster before landing guest shots on classic TV series such as McHale's Navy, Bewitched, The Virginian, and others, including Cora in the wild 1966 sci-fi film Fantastic Voyage, which also starred Stephen Boyd and Edmund Gwenn and only had an hour before they returned.
The film won Oscars for its visual effects, art direction, and set decoration and became a cult classic with a 91% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Welch then starred as a clan cavewoman in the 1966 British film One Million Years B.C., another wild tale set in a time when humans and dinosaurs coexisted; a slightly censored version of the film was released in the United States, and the film became a TV staple in later years, inspiring her to star with Dudley Moore and Peter Cook in the London-set 1967 comedy Bedazzled and opposite James Stewart, Dean Martin, and George Kennedy in the 1968 western Bandoler.
Welch continued her big-screen career alongside some of the era's biggest stars, including Burt Reynolds in the 1972 cop comedy Fuzz, Richard Burton in Bluebeard the same year, and James Coburn, Richard Benjamin, and others in Herbert Ross' The Last of Sheila, written by Stephen Sondheim and Anthony Perkins and starring Richard Chamberlain, Oliver Reed, and Michael York in 1973.
That film earned Welch a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical, and it spawned a 1974 sequel, The Four Musketeers: Milady's Revenge. She also appeared in the 1976 ambulance-crew comedy Mother, Jugs & Speed, alongside Bill Cosby and Harvey Keitel; her other films from the era were Kansas City Bomber, a 1972 drama set in the then-popular world of roller derby; The Beloved (1971); and the western Hannie Caulder, which she co-starred in with Robert Culp and Ernest Borgnine.
Welch was never shy about fighting for herself and her place at the Hollywood table. In that context, she made a very different set of headlines in the 1980s when she sued MGM over being dumped from starring with Nick Nolte in Cannery Row to play an empathetic prostitute in the David S. Ward-helmed movie based on the work of John Steinbeck. Welch was booted off the project by the studio over a contract violation in which she insisted on having her hair and makeup done there.
MGM said no and replaced Welch with Debra Winger to make peace by taking another role, but after being rebuffed by the studio, then run by David Begelman, Welch hit back and sued MGM for $24 million.
Making headlines all over the world, Welch alleged in her suit that the studio had built the movie and its financing around her and then used the hair-and-makeup dispute as a way to get a younger actress in the hooker role through the courts and appeals, but Welch ultimately was awarded a $10 million verdict in 1987, which, of course, generated a whole new set of headlines for her.
By the late 1970s, Welch's film career had peaked, and she began doing more TV work in 1979, appearing in a couple of Season 2 Mork & Mindy episodes with Robin Williams, and she continued to appear in telefilms throughout the decade, including the title role in "The Legend of Walks Far Woman," a 1982 NBC telepic about a woman who murders her abusive husband, and the role of a successful woman whose husband is murdered.
She later did a memorable cameo as herself in 1994's Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult, wrestling Leslie Nielsen's Lt. Frank Drebin onstage at the Oscars, and briefly appeared as Mrs. Windham-Vandermark herself in the classic 1997 Seinfeld episode "The Summer of George," which featured the actress mistakenly presenting a Tony Award to Michael Richards' Kramer, with unexpected repercussions.
Other 1990s TV guest roles included Evening Shade (reuniting with Reynolds), Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Lois & Clark, and multiple episodes of Spin City and C.P.W. Her small-screen credits since then include a recurring role on the 2002 PBS series American Family, which starred Edward James Olmos and Sonia Braga, along with 8 Simple Rules, CSI: Miami, the telefilm House of Versace, the short-lived CBS sitcom Welcome to the Captain, the Canadian comedy Date My Dad, and her career, Welch appeared on scores of TV talk, game, and awards show; hosted Saturday Night Live during its first season in 1976; was a presenter at multiple Academy Awards and Tony Awards ceremonies; appeared on Bob Hope comedy specials and toplined her own specials; in 1970, 1974, and the 1980 CBS special Raquel! showcased Welch’s comedy, dancing, and singing skills, earning a 51% share.
She also was a guest on The Late Show with David Letterman, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, and talk or variety shows hosted by Oprah Winfrey, Craig Ferguson, Bonnie Hunt, Dick Cavett, Mike Douglas, Joey Bishop, Dean Martin, Merv Griffin, and others twice on Broadway: the first time in 1981, when she filled in for a vacationing Lauren Bacall in Woman of the Year 1997, and the second time in 1997, when she played the lead role of Victoria Grant in Victor/Victoria, replacing original star Julie Andrews.
Despite her Golden Globes win and nomination, Welch never earned an Oscar or Emmy nomination during her long career; other accolades include an ALMA Award in 2001, a Western Heritage Award for The Legend of Walks Far Woman, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1996 by her son, Damon Welch, and daughter, Tahnee Welch.

Rivals row over deal for failed energy firm Bulb

Business reporter, BBC News
Octopus Energy’s acquisition of collapsed supplier Bulb could face further delays after rival firms challenged the deal in court.
Bulb, which had about 1.6 million customers, collapsed last year when wholesale gas prices soared.
It was bailed out by the government and is currently being run by the UK’s energy regulator Ofgem.
A deal for Octopus to buy Bulb was agreed, but Eon, British Gas and Scottish Power oppose it.
On Tuesday, the three rival firms filed judicial review applications at London’s High Court, challenging the government’s decision to approve the takeover and to provide funding to allow the deal for Octopus to buy Bulb to take place.
A judicial review is a type of court case that allows the legality of a government decision to be challenged.
The value of the Octopus Energy deal has not been published but the BBC understands the firm paid the government between £100m and £200m. The deal needs to be approved by the High Court to be completed.

Stephen Robins KC, for Scottish Power, said in written submissions that the marketing of the Bulb sale was “defective” and should be re-run to allow for alternative bids.
He said Octopus had effectively received a “cash gift” or “dowry” from the government in relation to the transaction, full details of which rivals had not seen.
Jonathan Adkin, representing British Gas, said in the court hearing there had been an “abject lack of transparency” about the commercial terms of the deal.
Meanwhile, lawyers representing Bulb’s administrators urged the judge to set a date for the deal to go ahead, despite the pending legal challenges.
Richard Fisher KC, representing Bulb’s administrators from the Teneo consultancy firm, rejected Scottish Power’s “highly controversial” version of events and said in written submissions that other energy companies had decided to “walk away” from the sale process.
Judge Anthony Zacaroli said he would give a decision on Wednesday whether to set a date for the deal to go ahead.
Octopus said the company “will continue to work hard to get this resolved as fast as possible”, while a spokesperson for the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) said it could not comment on the legal proceedings.
Bulb was the biggest of more than 30 energy companies that collapsed last year following a spike in wholesale gas prices.
Bulb’s bailout was the biggest one by the state since the Royal Bank of Scotland collapse during the 2008 financial crisis. The government’s official budget forecaster, the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR), has said the support for the firm will cost around £6.5bn to taxpayers.
BEIS agreed a deal with Octopus to buy Bulb in October and it was expected to be completed by the end of November.
But the acquisition was delayed after Eon, British Gas and Scottish Power raised concerns earlier this month.
