WIP Wednesday

(It's still Wednesday somewhere in the world!)

As promised, from the Australia trip that lives in my mind rent free (established relationship/maybe sequel to Follow Me in Merry Measure), of which this is the only part I have actually written lol. So please enjoy the aftermath of a spider incident (some huntsman spider references here and here if you want a visual. I did not enjoy looking them up at all, but I have been told that it's important context XD)

Robbie thanks the young woman again, returning her sympathetic laugh and turns to see James sitting cross-legged in the dry grass at the side of the road, a healthy distance from the car. He wanders over, waving the piece of paper in his hand when James squints up at him. 

“Good thing we paid for the extra insurance, eh?" 

James sighs and picks another blade of grass, tearing it into pieces between his fingers.  

“Is it okay to drive?” 

“Yeah, just a scrape, no vital organs were harmed.” Robbie lowers himself to the ground next to James with a grunt. “You all right?” 

“Fine,” James says in a clipped tone. Robbie wants to tell him that he shouldn’t feel embarrassed, lots of people are scared of spiders, but he assumes drawing more attention to it won’t help any.

Robbie sighs and pats his knee reassuringly. “Come on then, can't sit here all day.”  

James gets up with surprising grace, brushing dried grass and sand from his shorts, and holds out a hand to pull Robbie up behind him.

He hesitates as they approach the passenger side door. 

“You're sure it's gone?” he asks, bending to peer through the window with an anxious frown. 

“Yeah, I saw it scurry off into the grass, hard to miss, it was as big as my hand.” He holds it up for emphasis, only feeling a little guilty at the way the colour drains from James’ face. 

“Yes, I do remember, thank you.” 

Robbie waits as James continues his inspection of the car, biting back a smile when he freezes suddenly. 

“Wait, the grass? Where I was just sitting?” He points an accusing finger back to the spot where Robbie found him. 

“Yeah but it was so quick, all those legs, it would have been miles away by the time you got there.”  

James visibly clenches his jaw and levels him with a glare so charged it could power a small city. 

“Anyway,” Robbie continues, holding the door open for James who shoots him another dark look but climbs in warily. “It wasn't even inside the car.” 

James’ “What?” is muffled as Robbie shuts the door behind him and walks around to the driver’s side. 

When he gets in James is turned in his seat, staring at him intensely. “What do you mean it wasn't in the car?” 

“It was on the outside of the windscreen James, I tried to tell you.” 

James drops his head into his hands, shoulders sagging. 

“I hate you so much,” he mumbles.

Thank you for the video! A very astute analysis of the show’s change over the years, and how marketing played into it. As someone who has been seeing TdV on and off for fifteen years now (but mostly Hungarian-Viennese-Russian branch), it really did strike me when I saw it again after a long pandemic break a few days just how “predatory gay” trope the Herbert scene is. I guess the world was a bit different back when I was in my teens, and we were just happy to get *any* overt representation there, but that bit didn’t age well, and there sure seems to be little point to Herbert in the show at all.

That said, I always saw this as a complex story about hedonism and human nature without a protagonist, or, rather, letting the audience pick the protagonist, which is not always a bad thing. My main qualm with the show going against the theme of freedom is how passive Sarah is during the escape. For a girl who is more of less defined by agency, who manipulates so skillfully, she sure does not have much agency during the ballroom sequence. Her wants are so clear throughout (*translation dependent), but are completely absent in that moment.

Anyway, please do more videos. I am *very* curious to hear your thoughts on SE.

At the risk of going into a ramble...

When I was a youngish teenager, a group leader at a summer camp I went to sang Totale Finsternis and mentioned it was from a musical, which piqued my interest. I watched some clips from Youtube and they didn't really hold my interest at first, not at all... not before I came across what was probably this video. And then this one. And then this. I didn't speak any German at that point but I was so intrigued (as someone who loved musicals, was obsessed with fanfic and absolutely devastated at the lack of canon lgbtq rep in the types of historical/goth mainstream media I liked - it was 2016). So it's literally Wenn Liebe that originally got me into the show, even though my views on it have done a complete 180 after I grew up and started to look at what was actually going on ajfkkslf. I still think that some of the portrayals are a bit less... well, cruel - Máté Kamarás' Herbert is very earnest for the most part, which makes the portrayal feel more genuine, like the character is more than a parody, even just a little bit.

But it's still an uncomfortable scene and it's uncomfortable that the fandom reaction to it is so overwhelmingly positive even now 😅 Canon divergent fanfic is one thing (I definitely know the feeling of being so starved for lgbtq rep that you just rewrite the story to be able to have a ship), but a lot of people's takes even for the canon show amount to "he secretly likes it", which... 😭 My take still is that a lot of people ship it just to get Alfred out of the way of Krolock x Sarah. And that's annoying ahfkdk, where are the Alfred x Krolock x Sarah fics (Krolock isn't my favourite character but like, that has more canonical basis than alfbert lol)

I agree that Sarah just completely loses her agency for post-bite Tanzsaal, which is a somewhat odd choice! And I think a hedonism reading of the story is really interesting and checks out - in my video I mostly skipped over Chagal and Magda because it's a Can of Worms, but they definitely reinforce the idea that it's the central theme.

When you called him to say something was wrong, he was out on patrol and absolutely panicked.

He felt that you were stronger than you let on but had no way to prove it, so he had offensive weapons ready- just in case.

But when he got there, he was immediately proven right

You had only one shoe on- the other was heel-deep in the throat of one of your attackers.

You had knocked the second attacker unconscious with your bag

You also had the third attacker at knifepoint with his own knife to his throat.

"Hi, Don."

He tied up the one you had at knifepoint as you tied up the one you had knocked unconscious.

Alrighty, relating to that QSMP AU thingy again, I drew the Capybaras, all of em!! (or so I believe?)

First we got Senhora Neide & Elisangela!!

Senhora Neide is based on a Butternut Squash Roll, while Elisangela is based on Calamari!!

Next is Mr. Mustard & Pozolito!!

Mr. Mustard is based on a Chocolate Tart with Coffee Meringue, and Pozolito is based on a Popsicle, more specifically one called a Bomb Pop!

Finally, we have Abuelito & Seu Madruga!!

Abuelito is based off of this dessert that I have no idea what the freak it's called (cus where I found it didn't state where), but this video of someone making a manderine orange-based treat is what I based Abuelito on

Meanwhile Seu Madruga's based on a watermelon pizza

Now why I picked these for each one?

Elisangela was pretty obvious for me, since they have a squid on their head, I thought of Calamari!!

Senhora Neide made me think scuba diver, so since I didn't have an idea for her, I searched up what Scuba Divers can & can't eat before (and after) scuba diving, and what Capybaras eat, which gave me veggies (for the first one), and a whole list for the second one, but it included Squash, so then I searched up Squash desserts, & Butternut Squash Roll was the one I thought fit well for Senhora Neide!!

For Mr. Mustard (and a huge majority of the other capybaras), I realized I didn't actually know much about the capybaras, so I went to the QSMP Wiki page (which probably isn't the best place to go to find correct info, but it was the best I had), read a bit on them, and tried to find something to fit. Now I already wanted to do chocolate or coffee, but I was gonna just go with coffee, so I looked up coffee desserts, and found the Chocolate Tart with Coffee Meringue, which I felt fit for Mr. Mustard!! I didn't wanna just make Mr. Mustard be mustard btw XD

For Pozolito, I also looked at the Wiki page, and read one part that made me immediately have an idea, and I'm not gonna clarify what I read in case it's spoilers for someone else, but that lead to me making them based on a Bomb Pop :3

For Abuelito, I kinda just got the vibe they'd be something manderine-related (they also strangely made me think of that video of Capybaras in a body of water with manderines in it, while none of the others did), so I searched up Manderine desserts, and nothing catched my eye except for the video I linked earlier, but then they didn't state what the dessert was & I got sad. I used it anyways tho lol

Finally, for Seu Madruga, I just wanted to make one of them watermelon, and they were the only one left, so I picked watermelon for them, but then had to find a watermelon dessert. Then I found one that said Watermelon Pizza, which I honestly didn't know people did, like I've heard of cookie pizzas & mint chocolate pizzas, but not watermelon pizzas, and so since I heard that Seu Madruga was mocking Quackity (I read the wiki for that, but when I saw that I automatically recognized Seu Madruga since I had seen them in a clip of Quackity's stream, when he first met them), I thought since that could count as a mock pizza, so I made them a watermelon pizza

And that's why I picked the treats I did for them!!!

Mean Girls Part 2 (Movie)

Ok so this is my overall opinions on stuff such as the cut songs and the actors etc 😭 (Once again I haven’t actually watched it, I’ve only ever listened to the soundtrack [once 💀] and seen a few clips!)

Let me start with cut songs! It roars (yes I am counting this) - Realistically I don’t really see why they cut it, and honestly I imagine it would’ve fit within the movie better Also, Ik Renee was on broadway as Regina, and Ik she can sing/write, but never let this girl pick up a pen like ever again that song sas horrific 😭 There’s definitely worst songs out there don’t get me wrong but this was absolutely not a good replacement for it roars Where do you belong? - Ok honestly cutting this makes sense, I can see how this would be difficult to translate from the stage, and they’re so theatre that making them pop would be horrible 😭 doesn’t mean I’m not upset abt it tho 😕 Meet the Plastics (also counting this) - Literally what was the point man 😭 if you’re gonna get rid of all of the best parts get rid of the whole song like this was utter bs - sure, I haven’t seen if it worked well in the movie but Idc, there was literally no need 💀 The reprises (all of them excluding someone gets hurt) - I guess I see why they cut these, as the movie would’ve just been made a lot longer with them, kinda wish we could’ve heard aaron sing tho Fearless - Kinda sad they cut this cuz I actually rlly like the song 😕 also completely butchering gretchen and her songs like damn 😨 not yall acting like she’s one of the best singers on that soundtrack 💀Stop - Much like where do you belong, I can actually understand why they cut this one, although I absolutely wanna hear Jaquel sing it (and on his live the other day I’m pretty sure he said he’s planning on releasing a cover) also doesn’t mean I’m gonna be happy abt it tho 😔 WHOSE HOUSE IS THIS - THIS WHOLE SOUNTRACK IS LITERALLY KEVIN G ERASURE BRO 😭 LIKE WDYM WE DONT GET TO HEAR HIM RAP?? About the actors

Don’t Quote me on this but am pretty sure only 2 of them are actually theatre actors?? Ik both Jaquel and Renee have been on Broadway but before the movie cast was announced I had no clue who the others were? And I tried to find theatre credits but there were literally none 😭

I saw a clip the other day of Tina Fey telling us all to stop complaining abt it, cuz she got a killer cast, and sure yea they were a good cast but if you’re gonna make a musical movie, especially based on such an iconic musical, actually make it a good musical?? Actually whilst I’m on this topic I just wanna say the advertising for this movie was so shit, like they didn’t even advertise it as a musical?? And so many people went without knowing it was 💀

Tbh although I’m not trying to say the cast was bad, I just wish they casted actual broadway actors, cuz it would’ve been sm better (for example, WSS 2021 - most of the cast were bway/theatre actors n it is one of the best musical movies I have ever watched)

At this point I would’ve preferred the og bway cast 💀 Like Idc that they’re all 30 or whatever 😭 Personally, I prefer proshots to movie musicals anyways, due to the fact that we get to see it on stage, so ee don’t have to miss anything, and if they really wanted to do this properly they should’ve just gone for a proshot 🤷‍♀️ But that’s just my opinion based on what I’ve seen!

HI HI! putting the nonnie here again bc I feel like I didn't elaborate enough on the last ask and wanted to make a proper post about artem with piercings!

ima be honest tho, i have not seen Wotakoi but have seen snipetts from tiktok reviewers to have a general idea of how it goes (it has been on my watch list for a while now, i just haven't gotten around to it)

anyway: artem with piercings. ever since that scene in 6.2 where he's like:

and that got my monkey brain thinking, you know? cuz first of all artem at a party? hmmm,,, and then the earring part!! and then with me being me, i had to find some way to prove to myself (and yall) that artem could have pierced ears. so!

Aight so, as mentioned in a previous theory, I'm betting good money on Artem having either closed piercings or having actual piercings without the studs in. It follows a pattern I've mentioned before, but that’s not the only reason I think Artem has piercings. Like yeah, in 6.2 he says that he wore earrings to a party (he went to parties?) but I would assume that he wore clip-on. After all, his sprite doesn't show any holes, right? Well… let’s look at Marius’ idle sprite. 

The sprite itself has four earrings on the left side and none on the right (considering he’s the one who did at least one of the piercings, it makes sense they’re on his left). Looking through stories and cards where he’s wearing a suit, he doesn’t take out the earrings. He witches them out for ones that don’t call as much attention to them compared to events where he can dress up (re: Fabulous Feast vs. Main Story 7). 

'But what’s the point?' I hear you ask. Well, mostly to get you focused on his ear. We don’t have a sprite where a person known to have earrings… doesn't have them on. This goes for MC as well. A brief glance into cards where they appear always has them wearing a pair of earrings, so we don’t have that baseline as to what ears in this universe look like if they have a piercing but don't have an earring. 

Anyway, aside from the theory, why would I think Artem had piercings at one point? Well, I’d cite teenage rebellion or something similar. In his revisiting youth card (which im still fucking salty i didnt get fuck you mr. wing) he says he knows how to pick locks. Idk what type of pin mc was wearing that day but the fact that Artem ‘I get called an emotionless robot by the media’ Wing can pick a lock using a pin that he’s not really familiar with?? Idk man something ain’t adding up here. 

There’s also the fact that his mom called him ‘Difficult to deal with’ as a teenager. Now, let’s not jump the gun and say Artem was a full on bad boy, far from it. Back to his revisiting youth card, we’ve seen the outline of Artem’s highschool portrait. We know that while stand-off-ish, he was generally a good kid. But you can be a good kid while being difficult to deal with. Honestly when someone won't approach you for some bullshit reason, there has to be some way to pass time. Especially in a closed environment like school. Hence: lock picking. People like learning how to break into things because they can, not because they use the skill.

But then when do we get to the earrings? Well, we get to them at the same time. Gifted Kid Artem Wing was probably bored, already had the reputation of being a loner (not a total one but one with acquaintances), and was in an environment that both facilitated and spread bad ideas. All Artem had to hear was people talking about piercings for him to get the idea. It’s entirely plausible that Artem got piercings on a whim. After all, no one is going to tell him otherwise. 

Now I do think he let them close out if he did get them. Going back to Marius having earrings, he changes them when it comes to corporate matters or just day to day. Idk if I’m just assuming but isn’t it a thing in corporate culture to just, you know, not have earrings? Marius gets a pass because he’s the protagonist he’s the CEO of the company. You’re not gonna tell the CEO to go change, are you? Artem, while being the senior partner, still is Celestine’s employee. I’m 90% sure Celestine wouldn’t mind because it's Artem, but better to err on the side of caution, right? 

So there’s a 50/50 chance he either has piercings that aren’t closed (since we don’t have a sprite to show us what that looks like) or he has them closed.

by the way ive actually heard a lot of bad things about this movie and im absolutely agreed that this is corny as fuck but frankly when it comes to tos movies... im actually on board if its corny, even if the story might suck in the end. i mean granted- im hardly into the meat-meat of the movie yet. i dont doubt people slate it for NOTHING, and i presume i'll understand the problems better the more i watch (after all i am already kind of irritated with syboks existence even if i do quite like the actors vibe) but its like... hm how do i put this...

im not actually ever against, like, "nostalgia bait" stuff , i guess, and having fun with things if its kinda a) self aware enough and b) well earned. does that make sense? if it isnt taking itself too seriously and bigging itself up in a dramatic way, AND there's a solid foundation to actually have fun with then im okay with a movie that kind of only spins on the funnier, more casual moments and is somewhat self-indulgent in terms of how it panders to fans with, like, showing them all having fun camping .

the issue for me is when its either, as i said, unearned or trying to take itself too seriously... or maybe, like, when it does veer too close to flanderisation or even just spinning the wheels on the characters. its why i think a lot of chibnall doctor who doesnt realyl work when its trying tobe "fun" or "goof off with the fam" like... you guys never really did the legwork to establish these characters well enough to have that, you know?

and im not saying tos has marvellous character work- we can be honest, and say that outside of the triumvirate theyre all over the place- but i do think theyre solid enough to crry and im well okay with that yeah?

Tbh I really like the... what's the word. Stuffy??? (That's not quite right but it works) sort of sound Kaeya's eng voice has on the early quests and voicelines, though I think they may have tried to slightly up the animeness(?) of it in some later ones (which doesn't sound bad, either; just an observation). It's very human and feels more like a real, genuine voice than the [generic smooth playboy Femme Fatale: Guys Edition] voice some people seem to think of him with would have.

He is smooth and witty and charismatic sounding by design (both his own in-character and by actual marketing character design), and that's good, and I'm definitely not saying anyone talks like he does irl* - I just appreciate them letting him have that smidge of Some Real Guy voice too. It adds character distinction and charm. Like you can hear it some in the "Knight of Favonius" line I think?? That I do hear people talk like in my daily life.

It's interesting, actually; I'm not actually that familiar with most characters' other language voicings (this is extremely still a stupid gacha game (affectionate) and I have a life, hyperfixation be damned), or know enough about the languages to distinguish tone beyond the most obvious, but there are definitely character differences.

I do often see fans of the Kaeya's Chinese voice complaining about his Eng character being more flirty-toned and sadistic, when in it he's a bit more friend's-older-brother-coded (my own 'what I'm reminded of', though the older-brother-ness sentiment def isn't original to me) and pranksterish. And I saw someone joke at one point that Korean Kaeya is just too chill to be the Kaeya in their fic because he's too calm to be bothered by any of it.

One other example I'm familiar with is Childe: ENG shows anger really well, and is a bit more childish and hypocritical, but [I forgot which language but I think it was Chinese or Japanese?] Childe was more resigned and accepting of Sometimes Lying Happens Back To You, if still upset about it, and slightly more mature about that incident. (I looked into his because I saw someone saying they thought that made more sense with him being someone who had to tolerate the Abyss, and I got curious.) And Korean Childe sounds slightly more violent, in my opinion, at least on some of the more playful english lines.

...I mostly specified eng Diluc because I don't actually know anything about his other voices

I think all of the characteristics are interesting, of course, and I suppose they're all 'canon' in each language. In terms of fan stuff, I think it just depends on what the goal is! I just go by preference, but I have seen people specify what "language" of each character they're thinking of for stuff before, and even mix and match a few times.

*(related: while I was looking into the voice differences I happened across a clip where his VA was going on this whole thing about how much breathing the Kaeya Voice takes. It is literally so full of air - catch in universe Kaeya silently inhaling as much as he physically can every time no one's looking at him.)

i have several bones to pick with the english voice acting (and most of them have to do with with the goddamned anime-ness which i am, most of the time, not super fond of) but i actually really like kaeyas voice! particularly early game lol which is also a constant with genshin voiceovers for me.. what i really like about kaeyas eng voice is like. the cadence of his words. the rhythm of his speech. it sticks in my head and i keep repeating his voicelines to myself like a stim lol but anyway. once again i digress.

those are really cool details to know about! i had never looked into it before; im not familiar w like.. any of the other voiceovers (stupid gacha game (affectionate) and all that) (i thought about switching to a diff language a while back but i was too attached to kaeyas eng voicelines and that singlehandedly made me decide against it lmao) but i think it's pretty fun how the tone of the voice actor and the words chosen in translation can slightly change the characterization sometimes. i think the smooth talker flirtatious tone kaeya has influences a little how i imagine him, like, what sort of persona he displays to others, what he wants people to believe he is like, etc. in the end its all subtleties! and i love the idea of mix and matching these little characterizations when making fanon content because that is what fandom is all about babey

the hitcher – slightly deranged about this ever since i saw it last week, a movie perfectly tuned to my preferences <3 love love LOVE the main performances & the dreamy atmosphere & the cinematography; just! the americana of it all!! plus there is soooo much to dig into, like the folkloric resonances (i mean the vanishing hitchhiker story HELLO), the gay panic (as in the actual original homophobic meaning) every shot of the first half hour is just LACED with, that scene where he puts the coins over his eyes in the diner.... obsessssssssssed.

the black phone – okay so i watched this last night & it might fade from the faves over the next few days but rn i can't stop Picking at it. genuinely Disturbed me a couple times so 🙈👍 ethan hawke ATE, the little girl playing the sister KILLED it, and my friend pj should've had more screentime so the sets of siblings could parallel each other or something but wcyd ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ i am a little I Can Fix It about some of its clunkier plot points, but the main conceit of the phone fucked soooooo hard i can forgive it 💖

What Is There To Say. it was the first one i saw before i was aware everyone went insane about like hmc & princess monoke (which i also adore!!), so at first i was just Captivated by the animation genius & the Weirdness & the design of those bugs... it just plucks at something in me, like this is PRECISELY the kind of post-apocalyptic story i can enjoy, like what a coherent & hopeful environmental message that's, well, not subtle but certainly managed with a very deft touch!!!

How did Spark first see Mecha? You mentioned she saw him and started drawing him a lot, but what was that first seeing him moment?

OHOHOHHHH GOOD STUFF

OKOK so I’ve got two ideas, nothing here is 100% solidified yet but it’ll most likely be one of these two generally

1- Spark sees him out and about in the restoration base and without him even noticing she is captivated. It’s not love from the get go, maybe some “he’s kinda..” feelings there but not LOVE or even a crush.,that’s for later TEEHEHHEHE—

Something about the entire vibe and appearance of this guy just sets something off in her brain and she has to draw him. It’s like that one Family Guy clip, this rusty ass badnik just becomes her muse and he has no idea until she eventually goes to him to get rid of the drawings. She feels like such a creep, a weirdo even. She just wants to confess, get rid of the drawings, and pretend none of this ever happened, but we know what happens next.

In this option this would be the first time Mecha ever meets Spark, if you can call it that (he does not learn her name this way) and would also be the first time Spark talks to Mecha

2- This option is very much different and even has smaller factors in it that could change too, but the general gist is that not long after Mecha and the other Scrapniks arrive Tails and Belle have started giving them the ability to speak on their own. Please IDW let my darlings talk, ah, anyways. Mecha’s one of the first ones and not long after Sonic suggests him going to meet people now that he can talk to them. Maybe picking up some of the teams coffee even

Here’s a part where it can go two ways

A) Mecha does this errand alone

B) Someone goes with him for support

Route A - Mecha ends up at the cafe and very quickly Spark goes from bored to bumbling mess. Like holy shit this massive rusty robot just walked in and he’s ordering like 5 fuckin drinks what the fuck

Mecha leaves thinking that the reason Spark acted so odd was maybe fear, but in testily she’s just fuckin gay

Route B — Mecha goes in with company, Sonic makes the most sense to me so we’ll use him, and again this is where Spark first sees him. She’s still definitely reactive but is a bit more at ease with someone else she recognizes there too. Like okay, giant rusty kinda hot robot just came in, but Sonic is with him so like..must be cool

Despite being a bit more collected Sonic can still see her heavily eyeing Mecha, tho the look on her face doesn’t exactly say afraid

Mecha would still at first assume fear made her act like that, but Sonic pushes that idea away saying he doesn’t think so. He doesn’t say what he thinks it is, in case he may be wrong, but he manages to ease back Mecha’s own assumption

Going this route lets them actually meet before Spark draws him a ton, and not be complete strangers when she confesses for the drawings. Maybe even seeing Mecha come in multiple times after that first one to grab orders for other people

Meaning Spark has to try (and fail) to act normal cause this guy she was just drawing from memory in her sketch book 2 minutes ago is now getting coffee from her

Both options have their appeal to me but I do lean more to 2, but on the chance I go with 1 I wanted to talk about it also

i'm not a gamer so i'm not super familiar with each games outside of what i know from tumblr and deep dives into wikis. i think i've watched some clips of walkthroughs on tiktok. mostly arkham knight tho because i loooooooooove that whole plot. i have no clue what gotham knights is about tho???

I just had a bad day and had a good cry just now, and I was scrolling through Tik Tok and saw a clip of Lucas's documentary that got me curious. So I went to watch it. I actually felt so encouraged for some reason after watching the documentary. But anyways, Lucas has been my bias since his early NCT U days. It's just that ever since the news broke out, I was disappointed. When there's part when he said he hasn't come out of his room for 6 months. My heart wrenched hearing that, but I'm glad that he picked himself up again and was willing to try harder again in his career. After watching everything, it made me realise that i want to work harder, too, despite having episodes of loneliness in life. Like what he said, " I have to pull myself together." Bonus: hearing him still contacting the members has melt my heart ❤️

J, like me, also had cramps last night and then spent the morning feeling nauseated in the loo and I knew exactly what items to hand her (water bottle, anti spasmodic, caffeine, bucket, towel for sweat, baby wipes in case of need for quick cleanup and vicks vaporub under the nose) she thought I was reading her mind, I've just been there.

Went to the dentist, a double booking with Mum to set up the 'family' account with a new dentist (9 have retired in the past year and there are only 4 close by so it's been two years to get a slot - once you're a registered client the wait times drop to 2 months) it was up a steep flight of stairs so a year ago I couldn't have made it. Hidden in a residential building between two shops and called 'le France' no I have no idea what that's about either I'm guessing it's le france because it used to be le bâtiment or le café france and got shortened or something.

I had a clear plan of action the night before (ask about neck, ask about tongue) but was hazy by the time we got there from car dizzyness and lack of sleep. Then the receptionist asks us to fill in forms while she's also asking questions on the form. It was hard to focus on either. And she goes "don't you recognise me?" and I say "oh I'm sorry we're terrible with faces! where do we know you from?" - guess! Anyway mum and i managed to throw out pretty much everywhere we've lived in France since 93 and any groups we've been part of together.

Five minutes later she explains she knows us from an address we never lived at LOL and knew my sister at 14yo. That actually narrows down the options because we know a ton of Valeries. I have never met this woman. This is horse lady Valerie. She took tourists on horse back rides through the lovely scenery to pay for her horse sanctuary and gave kids lessons.

Sis has loved horses forever despite only meeting them in fields. So one year we got her riding lessons, she paid for half with stable work. She had a wonderful time, V has very strange social skills and isn't good with kids (specifically not picking favourites) but sis bonded with a stubborn reliable mare who didn't like people but who did like my sister for her respect for boundaries and always asking the horse first (Show the brush, ask, then brush. Show the saddle, ask, then saddle... ). Yeah the horse loved her and she loved her back, and they got to do horse riding and it was as amazing as the books and period films showed it to be.

So Horse Valerie is a dental assistant now and has a weekend job doing kids yoga. She told us quite a bit about herself (we asked all the right questions: how many horses did she keep? She carefully rehomed the others, How was she adjusting? She does sophrologie (?) now... but didn't ask a thing about sis or us. So she's still her odd self. 😆 I had a flash thought and asked about the horse that spends time in a field in town as the conditions had distressed sis: she felt they were insufficient for a horse to stay all day let alone night when sis and I visited. She said it's a hardy horse from the region from a family who've owned horses for generations. (sis thinks this is a non answer)

By the time I got into the dentist my mind was blank, I managed to list what I'd tried for my tongue and eventually asked if he felt I should get my wisdom teeth out. Forgot to mention the neck!!!

I'm trying base mouthwashes and extra brushing for a month or two we'll see if that helps. As for my wisdom teeth, it'll help the lower teeth not be so cramped and at risk of cavities because I can't floss half of them and he knew the right one comes out partially on the regular.

But otherwise I've been really lucky because I mouthwashed daily for over a decade when bristles would make my teeth bleed while only really brushing my teeth once or twice a week in the bath (because of POTS - brushing sat down is a mess when you can't get up fast and need both hands to get up), I only have been brushing daily for 18 months and use kid fruity toothpaste because mint makes it hard to eat for the next few hours. If my health goes backwards I really want to work out a sat down system with an electric toothbrush and a towel bib or something.

Ok so we get home J's feeling much better as she's fully emptied her system but has a fever. A friend called from the hospital to say covid cases are through the roof, time to mask up and avoid groups if possible: stomachs sink, we're all hoping J has a minor stomach flu, she'll be getting tested for Covid before the booster tomorrow.

I can't find the infection stats online in last years' places. Absolutely none of us want to go to hospital this winter unless pandemic protocols are in place. Me and the dentist were the only ones wearing masks, mine came off for the appointment, his came off to do computer work but he was right in front of a window. No-one in town, none of the five people in the waiting room or Valerie. Makes you feel like you're being paranoid. I'd be having a panic attack rn if I hadn't worn a mask today though.

Got two parcels done 🎉🎈, i still get a little bitter throwing money at laposte because I don't trust them and the box they made me tick saying "i'd pay return fees if things don't work out" doesn't help. But on the bright side I got to choose some cool stuff to send a friend and also said goodbye to more handpicked baldies: 3 Licca modern l07, 5 Licca classic modern k29, Karen chan ribon (I will find you again someday) and Kurhn.

Yes I had concepts for most of them. Split hair, gradients, thermal hair, a proper Cinnamoroll themed gal, a twin stars dupe. Blank nicely spherical heads with a flattish top (+small, soft vinyl) let you play with dividing it up in a way that's less easy with Barbie. From about 1cm back the hair falls backwards and won't be seen from the front.

Ok speaking of hair, Hair Wear Summer's green underhair streak is doll grade kanekalon and matte. No wonder there were so many rerooted versions of her on flickr, that will have frazzled right up if a boil wash was too close to the boiling point. She's pre-gluehead era thank goodness. If my neck wasn't busted I'd have replaced those 40ish plugs with a nice shiny green saran or a ginger blend so the next owner doesn't ruin it. Good to be reminded Mattel was also making baffling decisions for higher end playline in 2007.

Today I took Lily for a short walk and the new neighbours' dog came running to the gate (which is up a steep slope about 4 yards in) and barked, I was going to walk on by but decided to walk up to the gate because Lily is super chill, I told the dog "no barking. we're neighbours and we're cool" handed him a piece of cracker, he let me stroke his nose but later still wanted to bark at Lily. This is going to take stronger treats! In the meantime, orange cat came running and tried to squeeze through the fence to play with the fluffy dog.

We left right as he finally wiggled that derrière out of the fence. Sorry lil orange mischief, some other time!

Hi!!! I totally missed talking to you too! I would love to hear about the performance or festival! It sounds super cool and I've never been to one. I hope it was amazing. I totally agree that the surprise songs are a nice bonus and how it makes every show different and special no matter what. I totally agree about the Folklore dresses..they are my favorite next to Speak Now. Unfortunately I didn't get to go to the Paramore show the other night which is a huge bummer. It just didn't work out at the last minute. But I finally saw the Barbie movie last night! It was pretty good. There were some things that surprised me still even if I got stuff spoiled. I loved all the pink stuff and the Ken stuff. It managed to be funny but also kinda heartfelt and real. Like even America's speech..even though it felt on the nose at times, it was kinda nice to hear her say it in a simple relatable way and it did make me think about being a woman. It had a lot of good themes and ideas but almost felt like two different movies...and I guess because of the two settings. It made it a little different than what I expected though and I don't even know what I was expecting either. I loved the I'm Just Ken song and scene! It makes me happy that he got to sing in another movie again haha. I guess they are still working on a La La Land stage version but I haven't heard anything else about it. I'm curious what other kinda songs could be in your musical version. I could definitely see a welcome to Barbie land song and maybe a song for Weird Barbie. I could see it being similar to Mamma Mia I guess. I love Megan Fahy as a choice and I loved her in the Bold Type and then I found out she was in Next to Normal. I'll watch the videos you posted too. Gavin Creel and Jen Coella seem perfect haha. I was lucky to see Gavin as Cinderellas prince/wolf in Into the Woods last month and he was funny so he'd be great in this. That's so awesome about getting Hadestown tickets! I'd definitely say it was one of my favorites in the last few years and to see live. I haven't actually listened to the new Sweeney Todd yet but I guess I'd recommend the original cast with Angela Lansbury as Mrs Lovett, but I've also seen Patti Lupone. For Rent, sometimes I just like hearing the songs compared to watching the show..like you can get most of the plot from the cast recording even if you're unfamiliar. That is sooo cool about Newsies!!! Did you get to see Jeremy Jordan? I've seen the proshot a ton of times anyway but I'm so curious. I also enjoyed and would recommend SMASH since we are talking about musical shows lol. But Schmigadoon was the same way with all of the references and stuff. Also who did you see in Waitress? I still watch the Tony's and try to keep up with it but I feel like the revivals were better than new musicals this year or that's what I was familiar with and I didn't listen to any cast recordings. I used to always do that before the Tony's with any new show but I didn't this year..but I will eventually. It's really hard for me to know who should win Tony's since I usually like most musicals. hellooooo friend!! i went to lollapalooza last week, which was my first music festival and it was a lot, but also really fun! i definitely am not an outdoorsy girl, and i was not as prepared for chicago summer heat as i should've been. i lowkey had more fun at the aftershows (for sabrina carpenter, and maisie peters), and i think if i was to do lollapalooza again, i'd probably just do aftershows and maybe not do GA for all 4 days, but just one day? there were a few sets where i was like "... i probably would have a better view and have more fun watching this on the hulu livestream", which is a little bit unfortunate, but you live, you learn! it was actually kind of scary watching so many people around me pass out, and i just ... do not think i am a festival girlie! which is fun because i have bumbershoot coming up, but it's not really a big music festival, just a very small one in seattle and i'll probably just hang out with the crafty things instead (unless the people i'm going with really want to listen to the music)! i got to see some of my favorite artists though, and it was just really, really lovely — especially holly humberstone, because i don't think i'll get the chance to see her for a while (unless she tours to seattle with her new album)! i don't think i've asked you this, but aside from paramore and taylor swift, who else do you like to listen to? 🤍 i'm sorry about paramore :( i thought of you earlier! i got a notification on my phone about cheap paramore tickets in seattle tonight and i was like oh .....! i almost caved and got tickets but i am 1) still run down from chicago/lolla + 2) i spent money on tickets this morning! but eeeee i'm glad you got the chance to see barbie!! i do agree about it feeling a little clunky / like two separate movies! i don't know what i had expected from the barbie movie, but i definitely didn't expect that! ugh i'm already thinking about how beautiful a barbie musical set would be (can you imagine the barbie house?) maybe something by jason sherwood or beowulf boritt? i just think it would be so fun!! and yes — love love love meghann fahy! she also sang a bunch of kerrigan-lowdermilk (who wrote sam brown) songs back in the day that i really like, like say the word i'm so jealous you got to see gavin in into the woods! the tour didn't come to seattle :( i've only heard the best things about gavin, and one of my close friends loves gavin creel so i was like "oh he'd be a perfect ken!" i think they finally announced the sweeney todd revival cast recording release date, so i mightttt hold off and wait till then, and then go backwards and listen to angela lansbury! i did not get to see jeremy jordan in newsies, but i have seen him live — he came to seattle with betsy wolfe to sing with the seattle symphony a couple years ago! i saw newsies on august 9th, 2014, actually (what are the odds), with corey cott, liana hunt, and ben fankhauser! i like the proshot, but i think i'm more partial to the casts i saw (and i think that jeremy and kara and ben and akb were all a little too old to play teenagers at that point)! although my favorite cast is probably actually an amalgamation of the first national tour cast — stephanie styles as katherine, joey barreiro as jack (i've actually seen him as jack twice; once on tour and once regionally), and i think i've just loved every davey i've seen! i love smash! i was talking to someone in chicago about it, actually — they were sitting at the table next to ours and i just struck up a conversation about lolla since they mentioned someone i really love and we ended up talking about broadway / smash and it was really fun! i always say i'll do a smash rewatch and then i never do, but the music is just so good! i'm super curious to see what happens with the smash musical (bombshell musical?) they're supposedly working on.

specifically during let’s bts in their segment within the segment and namjoon was like taehyung the kind of person who grows from compliments

and i ain’t even got the right words to express how i feel about the smile he couldn’t help when hobi had them all tell tae that they like him

not to mention the story he told during the festa video last year about how he always tried his very best to get hobi to praise him and how disappointed he was when hobi didn’t get it

and i may be tripping but didn’t like earlier this year he didn’t post on weverse or twitter for like a month or so because he wanted to keep seeing us say how much we miss him???

and in bon voyage season 2 when they had to write letters to each other and he wrote his to jimin and then cried when he read it

there’s also a moment in bon voyage 4 when he and rm were about to sleep in the same space and he asked joon if he could cuddle him and joon was like 🥴🤚 how bout no and tae was like you do like me right? and rm was like yeah of course but let’s not cuddle bro

also in that weverse magazine interview they did he talked about how depressed he got when they weren’t able to perform and he only felt happy for a while when he was able to communicate with us

and in the let’s bts thing again it was important for him to let jimin know that he likes him best like they really are best friends y’all 😭

and that moment in the soop when he set up a date for him and jungkook to talk out whatever tension they had or whatever

and how during those individual be interviews he had hobi flustered when he complimented his passion for music

and he always be saying like the most comforting stuff on weverse letting army know he’s there as a source of comfort at all times even when he can’t be

or how in in the soop after they were done eating he just went and latched onto jin’s back

and how tae had went to go wake jk up that one time and they ended up falling asleep

there was just a lot of jk cuddles going on in in the soop so i’ll move on

let’s talk about the pool water debate run episode where in the end jk decided to latch onto jin’s back yet again

i’ll take this moment to mention the jinkook moment that lives in my head rent free for no valid reason it’s from the life goes on countdown video where they were reading the post cards and he was wearing that big pink sweatshirt and jin was wearing that pink and black bomber jacket and jk just grabbed jin’s arm and held onto it and played with it and when he was done he just threw it away i… i think about that moment a lot there’s an entire section in both my head and heart dedicated to that moment anyway continuing on

i’ll talk about that time they were backstage for a show and they had them blow up mattresses and suga was minding his business resting and jk just rolled up and moved his legs and laid beside him and then hobi decided to pile on top

and whenever they’re on stage he’s always the most delighted when joon would suggest a hug he’d be the first one over there nose scrunched up giggling he loves it

there’s also many instances in interviews and lives where he just can’t keep him hands to himself
