Statistics of Apollo's Lovers
I was wondering just how unfortunate of a love-life our boy Apollo had, so - as one does - I did the research, math, and writing of said love-life.
such is the life of an adhd teen :)
In total, there are 63 people on this list. I have them separated into eight groups; Immortal, Immortal & Rejected, Lived, Died, Rejected & Died, Rejected & Cursed, Rejected & Lived, and who were Rejected by Apollo
Disclaimer: I am not a historian nor an expert in Greek Mythology, I am just a very invested nerd in Mythology, and in Apollo's mythology in general, and got curious about what his rap sheet actually looks like.
Sidenote: There will be some "lovers" not on this list. Reasons being;
No actual literary sources behind them
Said literary sources are dubious at best
Not enough information is given about the nature of their relationship to make an accurate take
So if somebody isn't on this list, it's because of one of those three reasons. Although there is still a chance I missed somebody! :)
Also, no RRverse lovers include in this list. Sorry my fellow ToA fans.
(Edited 04/05/25 - ALL SECTIONS SOURCED)
Let's begin! :D
Immortal Lovers
Calliope: muse of epic poetry. Mother of Hymenaios and Ialemus (Pindar's 3rd Threnos) by Apollo.
Clio: muse of history
Erato: muse of love poetry
Euterpe: muse of music
Polyhymnia: muse of hymns/sacred poetry
Melpomene: muse of tragedy
Thalia: muse of comedy. Mother of the Corybantes (The Bibliotheca by Pseudo-Apollodorus) by Apollo.
Terpsichore: muse of dance
Urania: muse of astronomy
Boreas: the North Wind. The Boreads called Apollo "beloved of our sire" in Apollonius of Rhodes's Argonautica.
Rhetia: alternate mother of the Corybantes by Apollo. (Strabo's Geography 10.3.21)
11 lovers total here.
10 Female, 1 Male
Immortal & Rejected
Hestia: goddess of the Hearth (Hymn to Aphrodite)
1 Interest. Female.
Lovers Who Lived:
Branchus: mortal shepherd, gifted prophecy (Conon's Narrations 33 & Callimachus's Iambus)
Rhoeo: mortal princess, eventually married an apprentice of Apollo (Diodorus Siculus's Bibliotheca historica 5.62 and Tzetzes on Lycophron 570)
Ourea: demigod daughter of Poseidon, dated Apollo during his punishment with Laomedon; had a son named Ileus, after the city of Troy (Hesiod's Catalogues of Women Fragment 83)
Evadne: nymph daughter of Poseidon, Apollo sent Eileithyia & (in some texts) the Fates to aid in their son's birth (Pindar's Olympian Ode 6)
Thero: great-granddaughter of Heracles, described as "beautiful as moonbeams" (Pausanias's Description of Greece 9)
Cyrene: mortal princess-turned-nymph queen, kick-ass lion wrangler, and mother of two of Apollo's sons - Aristaeus (a god) and Idmon (powerful seer) (Pindar's Pythian Ode 9.6 ff. and Nonnus's Dionysiaca and Callimachus's Hymn to Apollo 85)
Admetus: mortal king, took great care of Apollo during his second punishment, Apollo wingmanned him for Alcestis's hand - basically Apollo doted on him <3 (Callimachus's Hymn II to Apollo and Apollodorus's Bibliotheca 1.9.15 and Hyginus's Fabulae 50–51, and also written about by Ovid and Servius)
Hecuba: queen of Troy, together they had Troilus.
It was foretold that if Troilus lived to adulthood, Troy wouldn't fall - unfortunately, Achilles murdered Troilus in Apollo's temple. When the Achaeans burned Troy down, Apollo rescued Hecuba and brought her to safety in Lycia. (Stesichorus's Fr.108)
Hyrie/Thyrie: mortal. mothered a son by Apollo. Their son, Cycnus, attempted to kill himself after some shenanigans and his mother attempted the same. Apollo turned them into swans to save their lives. (Antoninus Liberalis's Metamorphoses 12 and Ovid's Metamorphoses 7.350)
Dryope: mortal. had a son named Amphissus with Apollo, who was a snake at the time. Later turned into a lotus flower, but it had nothing to do with Apollo so she's still on this list. (noncon; written by Ovid in Metamorphoses 8 CE/AD and later by Antoninus Liberalis in his own Metamorphoses sometime between 100-300 CE/AD)
Creusa: mortal queen. had a son named Ion with Apollo (Euripides's Ion). Please check out @my-name-is-apollo's post for more details because they make some good points about what's considered "rape" in Ancient Greece. I expand on this further at the end of the post.
Melia: Oceanid nymph. Had a son w/h Apollo named Tenerus. (Pausanias's Descriptions of Greece 9.10.5–6)
Melia was said to be kidnapped, and her brother found her with Apollo. He set fire to Apollo's temple in an effort to get her back, but was killed. Melia and Apollo had two kids - but here's the interesting part. Melia was highly worshiped in Thebes, where her brother found her. She was an incredibly important figure in Thebes, especially when connected with Apollo. She and Apollo were essentially the parents of Thebes.
As I read over their story, it sounded like (to me, at least. it's okay if you think otherwise!) that Melia just absconded/eloped with Apollo.
Was kidnapping an equivalent to assault back then? Perhaps. But it's still debated on whenever or not that's true. However, one thing I've noticed reading up on these myths is that when Apollo does do something unsavory, the text says so.
It never says anything about Apollo doing anything to Melia. Her father and brother believe she was kidnapped, but, like mentioned previously, it seems far much more likely that she just ran off with her boyfriend or something.
But that's just my interpretation.
Moving on! :)
Iapis: a favorite lover. Apollo wanted to teach him prophecy, the lyre, ect. but Iapis just wanted to heal :) so Apollo taught him healing :) (Smith 1873, s.v. Iapis)
Aethusa: daughter of Poseidon & the Pleiad Alcyone. Mother of Linus and Eleuther. She is the great-great grandmother of Orpheus. (Apollodorus's Bibliotheca 3.10.1 and Pausanias's Descriptions of Greece 9.20.2 and Suida, s.v. Homer's Of the Origin of Homer and Hesiod and their Contest, Fragment 1.314)
Acacallis: daughter of King Minos. there's a lot of variation on whether or not she had kids with Hermes or Apollo. Some say she had a kid with each. (Stephanus of Byzantium, s.v. Kydōnia (Κυδωνία and Scholia on Apollonius Rhodius, 4.1492)
Chrysothemis: nymph queen who won the oldest contest of the Pythian Games - the singing of a hymn to Apollo. She had three daughters, and one of them is said to be Apollo's. (Pausanias's Descriptions of Greece 10.7.2 and Hyginus's De Astronomica 2.25)
Corycia: naiad. had a son with Apollo. the Corycian Cave north of Delphi is named after her (Hyginus's Fabulae 161)
Leuconoe (also Choine or Philonis): daughter of Eosphorus, god of the planet Venus, and mother of the bard Philammon. (Hyginus's Fabulae 161) She was killed by Diana for her hubris.
Melaena (also Thyia or Kelaino): mother of Delphos, member of prophetic Thriae of Delphi. Priestess of Dionysus. (Herodotus's Histories 7.178.1)
Othreis: mothered Phager by Apollo, and later Meliteus by Zeus. (Antoninus Liberalis's Metamorphoses 13)
Stilbe: mother of Lapithus and Aineus by Apollo. (Diodorus Siculus's Library of History 4.69.1 and Scholia on Apollonius Rhodius, 1.40 and Scholia on Apollonius Rhodius, 1.948)
Syllis (possible same as Hyllis, granddaughter of Heracles): mothered Zeuxippus by Apollo. (Pausanias's Descriptions of Greece 2.6.7)
Amphissa: Apollo seduced her in the form of a shepherd. They had a son named Agreus. (Ovid's Metamorphoses 6.103 and Hyginus's Fabulae 161)
(hey, has anybody else noticed that 'Apollo disguising himself' seems to only be a thing in Roman literature?)
Areia (or Deione): had a son named Miletus. Hid him in some smilax. Her father found him and named him. (Apollodorus's Bibliotheca 3.1.2)
Arsinoe: she and Apollo had a daughter named Eriopis. (Hesiod's Ehoiai 63 and Scholia ad Pindar's Pythian Ode 3.14)
Queen of Orkhomenos (no name is given): Mother of Trophonius (Pausanias's Descriptions of Greece 9.37.5)
(my fellow ToA fans will recognize that name haha).
Hypermnestra: Either Apollo or her husband fathered her son Amphiaraus. (Hyginus's Fabulae 70)
(sidenote: @literallyjusttoa suggested that Apollo was dating both Hypermnestra and Oikles, and I, personally, like that headcannon)
Manto: Daughter of Tiresias. Apollo made her a priestess of Delphi. They had a son named Mopsus. When Apollo sent her to found an oracle elsewhere, he told her to marry the first man she saw outside of Delphi. That man turned out to be Rhacius, who brought her to Claros, where she founded the oracle of Apollo Clarios. (Apollodorus's Bibliotheca E6. 3)
Later, another man named Lampus attempted to assault her, but was killed by Apollo. She is also said to be a priestess who warned Niobe not to insult Leto, and to ask for forgiveness. Niobe did not. (Statius's Thebaid 7 and Ovid's Metamorphoses 6)
(Dante's Inferno places her in the eighth circle of hell, and let me just say- what the FUCK Dante! What did Manto ever do to you, huh??!! Don't do my girl dirty!!)
Parthenope: granddaughter of a river god. Mothered Lycomedes by Apollo (Pausanius's Descriptions of Greece 4.1)
Phthia: prophetess. called "beloved of Apollo". Mother three kings by him; Dorus, Laodocus, & Polypoetes (Apollodorus's Bibliotheca 1.7.6)
Procleia: Mother of Tenes, son of Apollo, who was killed by Achilles before the Trojan War. Daughter of King Laomedon, king of Troy. (Apollodorus's Epitome 3. 26)
Helenus: prince of Troy. Received from Apollo an ivory bow which he used to wound Achilles in the hand. (Photius's 'Bibliotheca excerpts')
Hippolytus of Sicyon: called "beloved of Apollo" in Plutarch's Life of Numa. I don't think this guy is the same as Hippolytus, son of Zeuxippus (son of Apollo), king of Sicyon Pausanias talks about in his Description of Greece. That would be a little weird taking the whole family tree into account - though it's never stopped other gods before. *shrug*
Psamathe: nereid, said to be the personification of the sand of the sea-shore. (Conon's Narrationes 19)
She and Apollo were lovers, but never had any kids. When another man assaulted her, she had a son and abandoned him.
(He was found by some shepherds dw - wait, he was then torn apart by dogs. Nevermind.)
Back to her, her father ordered for her to be executed and Apollo avenged her death by sending a plague onto Argos and refused to stop it until Psamathe and Phocus/Linus (her son) were properly given honors.
(I really like how even though Linus isn't Apollo's kid, and that Psamathe wanted nothing to do with the kid, Apollo still considered him worth avenging too <3 )
Okay, in a previous incarnation of this post, I said there was a version where she is raped by Apollo...however, I can't find any sources to back it up😅 Even her wiki page doesn't mention rape, and Theoi's excerpt of Paunasias's Descriptions of Greece about her doesn't either.
So where did I hear about this supposed version? (Don't shoot)
Youtube. A youtube video about Apollo. Yeah...
Lesson, kids! Don't trust youtube videos on mythology! Yes, even if they dedicated lots of time to it! They can still get things wrong! In fact, don't even take my word for it! Do your own research <3
Hymenaeus: No, not his kid. This is a different Hymenaeus haha! This Hymenaeus is the son of Magnes, and comes from Megalai Ehoiai fr. 16, commonly attributed to Hesiod, and Antonius Liberalis's Metamorphosis. Legend states that while Apollo was preoccupied with Hymenaeus, baby Hermes stole his cows ;)
Euboia: Daughter of Macareus. Bore a son named Agreus. (Hyginus's Fabulae 161)
Philodice: Wife of Leukippos, mothered Phoebe and Hilaera by Apollo (Descriptions of Greece 3.16.1, citing the Kypria).
Alright. 37 lovers here.
6 Male. 31 Female.
35 are 100% consensual. Creusa is questionable, depending on who's translating/which tradition you go with. Dryope is noncon.
Lovers Who Died:
Hyacinthus*: mortal prince. we all know this one, right? Right? one and only true love turned into flower (okay that's my bias speaking but AM I WRONG?) (Plutarch's Life of Numa, 4.5; Philostratus the younger's Imagines; Pseudo-Apollodorus's Bibliotheca 1.3.3; Ovid's Metamorphoses 10.162–219; Bion's Poems 11; and various pieces of art)
Cyparissus: mortal. his DEER DIED and he asked Apollo to let him MOURN FOREVER so he was turned into a cypress tree (Ovid's Metamorphoses X 106ff)
Coronis: mortal princess. cheated on Apollo w/h Ischys, who in Fabulae was killed by Zeus. mother of Asclepius. killed by Artemis. (Pindar's Pythian Odes 3.5; Pausanias's Descriptions of Greece 2.26.6; Hyginus's Fabulae 202; Ovid's Metamorphoses 2.536 and 2.596; Hyginus's De Astronomica 2.40; Isyllus's Hymn to Asclepius 128.37 ff.)
There is another version of Asclepius's birth given by Pausanias in Descriptions of Greece 2.26.1-7, where Coronis exposes him on a mountain and Apollo takes him in.
Adonis: yes, THAT Adonis. he's in this category because. well. he died. rip (Ptolemy Hephaestion's New History Book 5)
Phorbas: Okay so Apollo's lover Phorbas and another Phorbas sometimes get mashed together so this is what I was able to gather.
Plutarch's Life of Numa 4.5 and Hyginus's De Astronomia 2.14.5 cites Phorbas as Apollo's lover. The other Phorbas is said to be a rival to Apollo in the Homeric Hymn to Apollo. Personally, I separate the two because it makes more sense with Phorbas the lover's overall story.
Here it is: The island of Rhodes fell victim to a plague of dragons or serpents, and the oracle said to summon Phorbas for help. He defeated the infestation, and after he died, Apollo asked Zeus to place him in the stars, and so Phorbas became the constellation Serpentarius, also known more widely as Ophiuchus (a man holding a serpent).
FORGET ORION AND HIS ONE-OFF MENTION OF BEING DIANA'S LOVER HERE IS A CONSTELLATION TRAGIC LOVE STORY!!!!!
(*Hyacinthus was resurrected, as celebrated in the Hyacinthia festival in Sparta. Nonnus's Dionysiaca 19.102 and Pausanias's Descriptions of Greece 3.19.4 supports this belief as well.)
5 lovers.
4 Male. 1 Female. All consensual.
Sidenote: QUIT BURYING THE GAYS GREECE!!!!
Love-Interests Who Rejected & Died:
Daphne: do i nEED to say anything? Nymph. turned into tree to escape.
Daphne and Apollo actually go back a bit. Their story was used to explain why the laurel was so sacred to Apollo. It's in Delphi, Branchus planted laurel trees around the temple he built to Apollo, the laurel was even sacred to Apollo's historical forebearer Apulu, an Etruscan god! (I have sources to back this up :3 along with an Essay.)
Apollo & Daphne first originate from Phylarchus, but we do not have any of his work :( It's been lost to history...a moment of silence RIP. He was a contemporary in the 3rd century BC/BCE (first day of 300 BC/BCE and last day of 201 BC/BCE).
He was, however, cited as a source in Parthenius's Erotica Pathemata, written sometime in the 1 century AD/CE (sometime between 66 BC/BCE and the author's death in 14 AD/CE).
Then they show up again in Pausanias's Descriptions of Greece, written between 150 AD/CE and 170 AD/CE.
Hyginus wrote his Fabulae sometime before Ovid's because it's widely criticized to be his earliest work and Ovid wrote his Metamorphoses in 8 AD/CE.
The first two versions are roughly the same, and Ovid's shares similarities with the first in only the ending. Hyginus is basically like Ovid's but without Eros.
So in publication order, it's; Erotica Pathemata, Fabulae, Metamorphoses, then Descrip. of Greece.
In Erotica Pathemata, Daphne is the daughter of Amyclas and is being courted by Leucippus. She is not interested in any sort of romance. Leucippus disguises himself as a girl to get close to her, but his ruse is revealed when Apollo nudges Daphne and her attendants into taking a bath in the river. Leucippus is consequently killed.
Apollo then becomes interested and Daphne runs away, imploring Zeus that "she might be translated away from mortal sight", and is transformed into the laurel tree.
In Fabulae, Daphne's story is a bit more familiar. She's the daughter of Peneus, the river god, and Gaea is the one who transforms her into a laurel tree.
In Metamorphoses, Eros is added to the story and is the reason why Apollo is so enamored and Daphne is so repulsed.
(I would just like to say that in this version, it was 100% nonconsensual for both of them! And I don't mean with rape- Apollo never touches Daphne in any of these version. What I mean here is that Eros maliciously makes Apollo chase down a woman and makes sure Daphne would be repulsed by him. That is noncon behavior there on both sides.)
In Descriptions of Greece 10.7.8, Daphne is the daughter of Ladon and her and Apollo are only connected by way of why the laurel crown is the victory prize of the Pythian Games. However, in Descriptions of Greece 8.20.2-8.20.4, Daphne and Leucippus make an appearance here too, but Apollo is not the reason why they stop to take a swim and his ruse is revealed, resulting in his death.
Castalia: Nymph. turned into spring to escape.
First things first, Castalia was used to explain the existence of the Castalian Spring in Delphi. However, in the Homeric Hymn to Apollo, the spring is already there when Apollo was born. So there's that to consider first.
Anyway, to escape Apollo's advances, Castalia transforms herself into a spring. (Lactantius Placidus's On Statius's Thebaid 1.698. This was written between Lactantius's lifespan of c. 350 – c. 400 AD/CE, placing it firmly in Roman times.)
2 Interests.
2 Female.
Love-Interests Who Rejected & Cursed
Cassandra: mortal princess. Received the gift of prophecy from Apollo. Due to a broken oath, she was then cursed. (Aeschylus's Agamemnon)
It is only in Roman-era tellings where Cassandra is cursed for not sleeping with Apollo, and there was no oath made (Hyginus & Pseudo-Apollodorus). In Agamemnon, it was done so because of the broken oath- not the refusing to sleep with Apollo thing.
The version where she gains prophetic abilities by way of a snake licking her ears is not part of Greco-Roman literature, but rather by an American poet.
Nevertheless, even after the curse Cassandra still loved Apollo, and called him "god most dear to me" in Eurpides's play The Trojan Women.
1 Interests.
1 Female.
Love-Interests Who Rejected & Lived
Sinope: mortal. there are two different version of her myth.
In Diodorus Siculus's Library of History 4.72.2 and Corinna's Frag. 654, Apollo "seizes" her and they have a son named Syrus.
In Apollonius's Argonautica  2.946-951 and Valerius Flaccus's Argonautica 5.109, it is Zeus who abducts her, but she gets him to promise her anything and requests to remain a virgin. He obliges. Later, Apollo and the river Halys both try to charm her, but fall for the same trick.
Library of History was written between 60-30 BC/BCE, Apollonius's Argonautica between 300 BC/BCE and 201 BC/BCE, and Valerius Flaccus's Argonautica between 70-96 AD/CE, making Apollonius's version the oldest and Valerius Flaccus's the youngest.
Marpessa: mortal princess, granddaughter of Ares. Idas, son of Poseidon, kidnapped her and Apollo caught up to them. Zeus had Marpessa chose between them, and she chose Idas, reasoning that she would eventually grow old and Apollo would tire of her. (Homer's The Iliad, 9.557 and Apollodorus's Bibliotheca 1.7.8–9)
Bolina: mortal. Apollo approached her and she flung herself off a cliff. He turned her into a nymph to save her life. (Pausanias's Description of Greece 7.23.4)
Ocroe/Okyrrhoe: nymph and daughter of a river god. asked a boatman to take her home after Apollo approached her. Apollo ended up turning the boat to stone and the seafarer into a fish. (Athenaeus's The Deipnosophists 7.283 E [citing The Founding of Naucratis by Apollonius Rhodius]. The Deipnosophists was written in the early 3rd century AD, between 201 AD and 300 AD)
Sibyl of Cumae: mortal seer. promised to date Apollo if she was given longevity as long as the amount of sand in her hand. he did, but she refused him. (Ovid's Metamorphoses 14)
5 Interests. All female.
Okyrrhoe's story is the only one with any iffy stuff, although, when something iffy does occur, the text usually says so outright.
Rejected by Apollo:
Clytie*: Oceanid nymph. turned into a heliotrope to gaze at the sun forever after the rejection.
1 Advance. Female.
(*Clytie's story was originally about her affection for Helios. [Ovid's Metamorphoses 4.192–270; Ovid used Greek sources about the etymology of the names involved, meaning Clytie and Helios go back to Greek times] As Apollo got superimposed over Helios's myths, people have assumed it is he who is the sun god in her myth and not Helios.)
In Conclusion...
63 people total, and 35 of them have Roman-Era roots with (as far as I know!! Don't take my word as gospel truth!!) no relation to Greece except by way of shared mythology.
Here's the list:
Rhoeo
Thero
Hyrie/Thyrie
Dryope
Melia
Aethusa
Acacallis
Chrysothemis
Corycia
Choine
Thyia
Othreis
Stilbe
Syllis
Amphissa
Areia
Queen of Orkhomenos
Hypermnestra
Manto
Parthenope
Phthia
Procleia
Helenus
Hippolytus of Sicyon
Psamathe
Cyparissus
Adonis
Phorbas
Castalia
Sinope
Bolina
Ocroe/Okyrrhoe
Sibyl of Cumae
Rhetia
Euboia
Meaning, 56% of the lovers listed on this post are not entirely Greek in origin (AS FAR AS I KNOW-)! That does not mean ofc that you have to ignore them. I, for one, really like the story of Rhoeo, and Manto, and Psamethe- I find their myths sweet (Rhoeo & Manto) and bittersweet (Psamethe).
Let's get to the calculations now, yeah?
63 people total (Includes Clytie)
51 Women (81%). 12 Men (19%).
19% were Immortal (Including Lovers & Rejected)
74% Lived (Including Lovers & Cursed & Rejected)
11% Died (Including Lovers & Rejected)
2% were Cursed
2% were Rejected by him
62 people total (Not Including Clytie)
50 Women (81%). 12 Men (19%).
19% were Immortal
69% Lived (Lovers & Cursed & Rejected)
11% Died (Lovers & Rejected)
in that 11%, one was apotheosized - Hyacinthus.
Meaning 9% died permanently, while 2% were resurrected.
2% were Cursed
0% were Rejected by him
Additionally, I left off five male lovers and two female lovers - Atymnius, Leucates, Cinyras, Erginus, Leukippos, Hecate, & Acantha.
Atymnius has no references to being Apollo's lover, only to Zeus's son Sarpedon. (Wikipedia why do you even have him listed? You need sources smh)
Leucates is another male "lover" left off the rack - apparently he jumped off a cliff to avoid Apollo, but I couldn't find any mythological text to account for it- and no, OSP's wiki page is not a reliable source. There is a cliff named similarly to him where Aphrodite went (by Apollo's advice) to rid herself of her longing for Adonis after his death. Also Zeus uses it to rid himself of his love for Hera before he...well, commits adultery again. 🤷
Cinyras was a priest of Aphrodite on the island of Cyprus. He was also the island's king. Pindar calls him "beloved of Apollo" in his Pythian Ode. However, looking further into Cinyras's life throws a bit of a wrench into it. He's also cited to be a challenger to Apollo's skill, and either Apollo or Mars (Ares) kills him for his hubris.
(honestly, I kinda like the idea that Mars went into Big Brother Mode)
I did consider leaving him on the list, since technically you could argue it was a romance-gone-bad, but among every other source Cinyras is mentioned in, Pindar's the only one who puts a romantic label on him and Apollo.
Plus, he’s been described as a son of Apollo too, and I personally like that more lol
Erginus now I only put on here because I saw a tumblr post saying he was a lover of Apollo, but after consulting fellow nerds on the matter we concluded that there is (very likely) no records indicating such. Hence his placement here to curb potential misinformation <3
Leukippos is here for much the same reasons as Erginus. Full disclosure here from fellow nerds but long story short a few of his daughters are said to be Apollo’s by way of his wife, who is on this list (Philodice in the Lived section!)
Hecate, the goddess of magic and crossroads, is said to be the mother of Scylla (like, the sea-monster) by Apollo, but Scylla's parentage is one of those "no specific parents" ones, so I left her off the list.
Acantha has absolutely no classical references. There's a plant like her name, but she's made-up, so she doesn't count. *stink-eyes the guy who invented her and claimed his “sources” were reliable when they really aren’t*
(Of course, I could be wrong about any of these. Again, I'm not an expert.)
With all this in mind, this means Apollo's love life actually isn't as tragic as media portrays it, and he isn't as bad as Zeus or Poseidon in the nonconsensual area.
Does he still have those kinds of myths? Yes, with Dryope and Creusa; though, we can discount Creusa because;
1) Depends on who's translating it; and
2) Ion is given different parentage in the Bibliotheca, which yes, came much after Ion, however Xuthus was traditionally considered to be Ion's father rather than Apollo. This means there was probably a different oral tradition on Ion's parentage that just wasn't written down as early as Euripides's was- in fact, it may even just be an invention of Euripides's.
(and honestly Apollo's characterization in Ion just doesn't quite match up with the rest of his appearances in the wider myths (in my opinion, at least))
So that leaves us with just Dryope, who comes from Ovid, a Roman poet, and Antoninus Liberalis, a late Greek one.
Now I'm not saying we should throw her out because of Ovid's whole "wrote the gods even more terribly to criticize Augustus" thing, but it is something to keep in mind. Political mechanics have been used to change myths before, and this is certainly one example of it.
Additionally, I have seen many people discard Dionysus's rapes in the Dionysiaca because of how late it was written, so this one can be given similar treatment if one choses too because of just how late Ovid and Antoninus Liberalis's work was.
You can, in fact, pick and chose if you wish, especially if it'll increase your enjoyment of literature. That's certainly what I do :)
So overall, I'd say Apollo has a rather clean relationship past. He's doing pretty damn good.
Also, I think we should all take note that even if Apollo had noncon myths, that doesn't reflect on the actual god. The Ancient Greeks did not see the myths as "canon" to their gods- in fact, some were not happy with the myths showing the gods in such a light.
That's something else to keep in mind. The gods of the myths are not the gods of Greece, and are more like parables or fables for the Ancient Greeks I'd say. Lessons on morality and such, and of course, warnings against hubris and the like.
This was quite the journey, and I really hope you all enjoyed reading and learning with me! This really makes me wonder- if Apollo's love life is this good, I wonder how misinformed we are on everyone else's? I have no plans on doing Zeus or Poseidon or anyone else (not for a LONG time lol, this took a lot of effort and research!), but if anyone has any idea, or gets inspired to do something like this for any other god, please tag me!! I'd love to see it! :D
And since this was on a previous reblog, here be a meme from a while ago:

[ID: Me Explaining Me. On the left is a girl with her hands up, fingers pinched together, like she's intensely explaining something. The text over her says "Me giving a detailed diatribe about Apollo's love life and how modern media has done him and his lovers dirty". On the right is the girl's mother, wrapped up to her chin in a blanket, with a look on her face that screams "absolutely done with this shit". The Mother is labeled "My family". /End ID]

I’m just gonna post this now cause I saw something that irritated me and I’m about to spiral. Mel thee Medarda😍.
What this fandom has done to her… Is the exact reason why existing as a black fem in a predominantly white ( including white gay) fanbase should come with reparations. This woman is a child of war and pilgrimage. It doesn’t matter that she was a Medarda. she was still a child! That ish will change you and it’s clear in her interactions with her mother she at the very least saw the endings of wars and campaigns, I can’t imagine those being pretty. Mel being the black sheep and lowkey scapegoat child of her family is not talked about either. As a teen she is sent away from the only support system she knows doesn’t matter if it was toxic, it was still familiar, to a brand new land where she had to build herself up again as a TEEN (probably since they never stated when she was casted out)! She spent her formative years in Noxus, where the strong survive. It is not surprising that while she detest violence and aggression, she uses her guile/ persuasion aggressively. By the time Arcane season 1 starts Mel is a young woman in her 20s on the council (the youngest council member too) and like Tok’s said Mel is a young woman who is extremely sure of herself… as a front. Mel is a woman who actually hates herself or at the very least is an extremely aware of how little all this means to the people that matter to her. We see this in the first scene of Mel in the show, where Elora reminds her of the fact she is the richest person in Piltover and Mel quickly remarked saying “And yet I remained the poorest Medarda”. The fandom quickly took that as Mel being power/money hungry when in reality that self depreciation was coming from a real place of insecurity. She knows how the Medardas’ are and how little they care for the fox and it bothers her. She’s not doing this for power in the way that it is presented. She’s doing this to prove a point. That her mother is wrong and the fox can be powerful. She is also trying to convince herself of that too.
From what we can gather in the show through her flashback and interactions with Ambessa, it’s clear that Mel definitely was considered to weak willed and soft spined for Noxus. I mean Ambessa says that to her before she casted her out. The fact that Mel apparently can still say the quote verbatim shows how scarring it was.
Mel is a woman caught in the extremes. She wants to uplift Piltover to prove herself to her family but also knowing what that means she also wants to protect Piltover from Noxus.She is a woman who has a love overflowing but has nowhere to pour into until she meets Jayce ( I’ll save that for a MelJay post though). I think because of how reserved Mel is,due to her upbringing and Ambessa literally discouraging, it’s not really discussed how Mel is probably emotionally stunted.
I have a lot more I can say about Mel as a character, she is literally my number 1 since season 1 but this post is already long and all over the place but this is a tip of an iceberg of how I digested her as a character.
Ps someone on TikTok said Mel was the Arcane version of Apollo and it makes so much sense(she is the beautiful child of an affair but is also the light bringer and a patron of the arts). Her and Ambessa was definitely a Greek Tragedy, at least to me.

This guy is an expert on submarine design, and there are a lot of engineers in the comments. Consensus is that they're most likely already dead, as the submersible was not designed with contingency in mind.
Possible shearing forces on the adhesive holding the carbon fibre tube and metal domes together
Advertised 96 hours of air, but it's not stipulated whether that's for 1 person or 5
Controlled by a third party wireless game controller, unknown if back-up wired steering system is in place or spare batteries for the controller are brought along
No way of removing smoke or toxic gases in the event of a fire, and no reported oxygen masks with positive pressure
No way to open from the inside even if they surface - reminiscent of the Apollo 1 tragedy where all three astronauts died in a fire on the launch pad because they couldn't escape the capsule
And so much more. It's a deathtrap. I'm hoping that considering the negligence of construction and lack of quality assurance and testing their little waiver will be struck down and they're sued out of existence. It's not about this one company being stopped, it's about preventing similar companies in space and ocean exploration making the same mistakes. Even NASA gets things wrong - Apollo 1, Challenger, Colombia - so these private businesses must be held to the same or better standards when there is a risk to life, just as the aviation industry is.
Regulations are written in blood.

I had a random thought, only five AA games are actually the story of their protagonist. Those being Justice For All, Dual Destinies, Spirit of Justice, and TGAA1. (AAI2 is in a weird place but I’ll explain that at the end so spoilers for that game as well)
Like, I know each protagonist is important to the story, but it’s still not their story.
The original Ace attorney is all about the consequences of DL6 (Red White and Mia’s death, Miles and Von Karma) and Miles’ redemption. Phoenix is just the catalyst for it all to start unraveling.
Then Trials and Tribulations was the story of the Feys and how Misty’s disappearance and the inter-family politics destroyed the lives of so many. It’s also Diego’s story to a lesser extent, of him learning to grieve and let go of his anger. Again, Phoenix is just the one being dragged into this mess due to his connection with Mia and Maya. (I would argue that dealing with your evil ex is definitely your story, but that part is so completely overshadowed by the family drama that it is a side plot.)
Apollo Justice was the story of the Grammaryes and the Gavin brothers and how one family destroyed itself while Klavier realized just how fucked up his brother is and the part he had to play in Kristoph’s schemes. Not to mention Phoenix and his disbarment and him learning to trust Apollo, going from practically taking over the defense from him in case 1 to trusting him with winning the Misham case in case 4.
AAI1 is the story of Kay Faraday and the legacy of the Yatagarasu. Miles is there because he happened to be the one with the necessary information and ability to solve the case when it became an international incident, but he does not go through any character development during that time.
TGAA2 is the story of the Professor killings, and Kazuma and Van Zeiks’ families, the misdeeds of Lord Stronghart and the the tangled web of lies that was woven in order to protect the corrupt system. Ryunosuke went through his character development of growing into a proper lawyer in the first game so he’s free to be the catalyst here.
AAI2 is weird however, it is Miles’ story, of learning what it truly means to follow his father’s legacy and learning that he can do that in his own way as a prosecutor. But it is equally the story of Simeon and his misguided revenge, and how authority and the system can so completely fail a person that it drives them to extreme measures. AAI2 is two stories borne of the same tragedy.

what is your favorite most OBSCURE myth? 🤔 can be relationship, tragedy, ect ect anything, just one you never/rarely hear anything about and there’s very little material on :D
I love listening to your opinions and interpretations of Greek mythology :)
(1.) CEPHALUS AND PROCRIS CEPHALUS AND PROCRIS CEPHALUS AND PROCRIS CEPHALUS AND PROCRIS!!!
my sad mortal blorbos 💔😭
(This myth that makes me want to strangle Eos but I blame Aphrodite most of all because none of that horrible shit would've happened to them or Cephalus's descendants leading up to Adonis if she didn't curse Eos.)
Anyways, I like to think they're both Odysseus's ancestors through Laertes.
(2.) Psamathe
She was a Nereid just minding her own business on a beach because she's the goddess of sand and then this bastard shitbag son of Zeus takes a page out of his daddy's book and assaults her. Even transforming into a seal didn't turn off Achilles's loser grandfather Aeacus (I bet he had some interesting conversations with Minos who's wife banged a bull), and either out of her reclaiming autonomy after her rape or Aeacus being a fucking weirdo who wants to remember that time he screwed a seal, their son is named "the seal" in Greek.
At least they both love their son Phocus I guess but Psamathe's bitchass stepsons kill him out of jealousy but then the gods SET UP her sister Thetis with one of those asshole stepsons of hers and Thetis turns the wolf she sent after Peleus to stone and through her sister's marriage she has to be tied to her son's murderer until Peleus's sorry ass finally dies or for eternity (if Thetis made him immortal).
She's gets a happy ending according to Euripides though by marrying a King of Egypt (a major upgrade from Aegina if you ask me) and has two more kids (with her daughter Eido even being noted to be the apple of her mother's eye 🥹) so a win is a win I guess but the trauma this poor woman must have!
(3.) Poseidon has a baby with a man
Nerites isn't that obscure of a figure anymore, but ultimately, he and Poseidon are the Bi4Bi couple of all time and don't get enough love.
I love the Anteros origin story where he poofs into existence from Neridon's great requited love IT'S SUPERIOR TO AND FUNNIER THAN HIM JUST BEING APHRODITE & ARES'S SON FIGHT ME!!!
(4.) Erichthonius being the son of Hephaestus & Atthis
This isn't because I want erase Hephaestus's wrongdoings (I do like him though and think he deserves another partner who loves him back. And since every younger male Olympian has their tragic doomed love with a mortal let him have one too!)
it's just a plus that he doesn't do anything shitty to Athena in this version.
(5.) Astraea
Her, her prophesied "return", everything!
Non-Hestia/Athena/Artemis virgin goddesses are so underrated. She does sound pure and true to her titles as the Goddess of Innocence, Justice, and Purity despite her being pro-Cronus and a Titan Golden Age believer.
There's also a sweet moment in the Dionysiaca (which I mostly hate but this moment was sweet) where she nurses Aphrodite & Adonis's daughter Beroe.
I'm so interested in her dynamics with her family since her insanely horny mom Eos was cursed by Aphrodite and is sleeping around with everyone but her dad (sorry Astraeus) and her brothers the Anemoi work directly under Zeus and pull his chariot despite her favoring Cronus's rule.
(6.) Zephyrus's son is a more successful gay than him
Zephyrus, famous for pining after and killing the sexy spartan prince Hyacinthus, never actually managed to pull a man.
He tried his luck a second time with Cyparissus, another one of dear ol' Apollo's boyfriends, but the guy died of grief after accidentally killing his pet deer.
He must have better luck with women though since he managed to reproduce with three different ladies. One of these gals was the nymph Chloris, who he did kidnap, but she forgave him once he made her a more powerful goddess by giving her the domain of flowers.
Anyways, they had a son named Carpus/Karpos. Carpus had a swimming contest with his lover Calamus/Kalamos, the son of a river god. Carpus ended up drowning because the Greeks preferred their gays doomed, and Calamus loved his boyfriend so dearly that he downed himself as well out of grief.
(7.) Cronus helps Hera create Typhon
Gaia crashes out about Zeus to Hera of all people, and since Hera is probably pissed at Zeus too, she goes to rant to her crazy daddy.
Daddy Cannibal gives Hera two eggs smeared with semen and tells her to bury it. She does, and out pops Typhon.
...
Thanks for the ask! I had a lot of fun with this one.

CULT AND FESTIVALS OF DIONYSUS
Dionysus (Bacchus in Roman mythology) is the Greek god of wine, fertility, festivity, and ecstasy. He is a representation of two opposites, which is: joy and chaos. His cult consisted of ecstatic rituals known for music, dances, and wine consumption, which allowed one to be freed from the burdening societal norms.
1 City Dionysia
The City Dionysia (Great Dionysia) was the most prominent festival, held in Athens, usually during March or April. Celebrating the coming of spring and the grape harvest. It often presented dramatic contests, where tragedies and comedies would be featured, and marked the beginning of classical Greek theatre with works by playwrights Aeschylus and Euripides. The festival was a prestigious competition, usually judged by prominent citizens.
2 Rural Dionysia
The Rural Dionysia was a winter festival, largely observed in December. It was more of a local festival, connecting agricultural communities to the worship of Dionysus. The procession had a decorated phallos carried in it, which centred on fertility rites. Villagers would celebrate with wine and dances, praying to Dionysus for fertility and prosperity, emphasizing on the agricultural origins of the Dionysian cult.
3 Lenaia
The Lenaia was a winter festival in honor of Dionysus, held in January. It was an important festival for theatrical performances and took place within the city of Athens. This festival conducted dramatic contests, but it had greater emphasis on comedies through offering a platform for comic playwrights like Aristophanes showcasing the lighter side of the worship of Dionysus
4 Anthesteria
Anthesteria was a three-day feast (late February). It celebrated the new wine and appealed to the spirits of the dead. A great variety of rituals was performed: from opening casks of new wine to going out in procession to the tombs of the ancestors. On the second day, called Choes, people had drinking competitions, and there was playful revelry. The last day (Chytroi) was dedicated to the offerings and libation to the dead.
5 Thargelia
Thargelia was a May ceremony in honor of Apollo and Dionysus, marking the beginning of the harvest season. It had an element of purification rituals associated with it. The festival included sacrifices, offerings of first fruits, and the "scapegoat" ritual whereby two human figures, known as "pharmakoi," were sacrificed to purify the community.
The festivals of Dionysus, though very ancient, mark the multivalence of Greek religion, society, and culture. They were not simple religious rites but communal gatherings that fostered artistic expression, social cohesion, and an active celebration of life and nature.

THE MOUSAI : A MINI INFOPOST
Pindar, Paean 7 (trans. Sandys) (Greek lyric C5th B.C.) : "I pray to Mnamosyna (Mnemosyne, Memory), the fair-robed child of Ouranos (Uranus, Heaven), and to her daughters [the Mousai (Muses)]."
Tumblr media
Who are they?
The Mousai or muses are the children of Zeus and Mnemosyne, and the goddesses of music, song and dance, and a source of inspiration to all poets. They are also goddesses of knowledge and remember all things that have happened. Ancient Greek vase paintings depicted the Mousai as beautiful young women with various musical instruments. Later art depicted each of the nine with their own attributes.
Mousai Titanides, Mousai Apollonides, and Olympian Mousai
The Mousai can be divided into three groups. The Mousai Titanides (elder muses), the Mousai Apollonides, and the Olypian muses. The elder muses or Mousai Titanides are 3 or 4 ancient titan-goddesses of music. These include Melete (Practice), Aiode (Song), and Mneme (Memory). Muse Mneme was later identified with Mnemosyne, the mother of the Olympian Mousai. The younger muses or Mousai Apollonides are a group of younger muses, daughters of Apollon who were honoured at the shrine of Delphoi. They include Nete, Mese, and Hypate named after the lyre's lowest, middle, and highest strings. The Olympian Mousai are the ones best known in the modern day. They are the children of Zeus and Mnemosyne. They include Kalliope, Kleio, Ourania, Thaleia, Melpomene, Polymnia, Erato, Euterpe, and Terpsichore.
The Olympian Mousai
♬ Kalliope - muse of epic poetry (beautiful voiced) ♬ Kleio - muse of history (to make famous) ♬ Ourania - muse of astronomy (heavenly) ♬ Thaleia - muse of comedy (rich festivity, blooming) ♬ Melpomene - muse of tragedy (celebrating with song) ♬ Polymnia - muse of religious hymns (many hymns) ♬ Erato - muse of erotic poetry (beloved, lovely) ♬ Euterpe - muse of lyric poetry (giving delight) ♬ Terpsichore - muse of choral song and dance (delighting in dance)
Tumblr media
My fav literature mentions
Hesiod, Theogony 915 ff : "And again, he [Zeus] loved Mnemosyne (Memory) with the beautiful hair: and of her the nine gold-crowned Mousai (Muses) were born who delight in feasts and the pleasures of song."
Orphic Hymn 76 to the Muses (trans. Taylor) (Greek hymns C3rd B.C. to 2nd A.D.) : "The Mousai (Muses) . . . daughters of Mnemosyne (Memory) and Zeus . . . sweetly speaking Nine . . . Kleio (Clio), and Erato who charms the sight, with thee, Euterpe, ministering delight : Thalia flourishing, Polymnia famed, Melpomene from skill in music named : Terpsikhore (Terpsichore), Ourania (Urania) heavenly bright."
Theognis, Fragment 1. 15 (trans. Gerber, Vol. Greek Elegiac) (Greek elegy C6th B.C.) : "Mousai (Muses) and Kharites (Charites, Graces), daughters of Zeus, who came once to the wedding of Kadmos (Cadmus) [and Harmonia] and sang the lovely verse, ‘What is beautiful is loved, what is not beautiful is not loved.’ This is the verse that went through your immortal lips."
Apuleius, The Golden Ass 6. 24 ff (trans. Walsh) (Roman novel C2nd A.D.) : "[At the wedding of Cupid (Eros) and Psyche (Psykhe):] Vulcanus [Hephaistos (Hephaestus)] cooked the dinner, the Horae (Seasons) brightened the scene with roses and other flowers, the Gratiae (Graces) [Kharites] diffused balsam, and the Musae (Muses), also present, sand in harmony. Apollo sang to the lyre, and Venus [Aphrodite] took to the floor to the strains of sweet music, and danced prettily. She had organized the performance so that the Musae sang in chorus, a Satyrus played the flute, and a Paniscus [a Pan] sang to the shepherd's pipes. This was how with due ceremony Psyche was wed to Cupidos (Love [Eros]."
Pindar, Dirges Fragment 139 (trans. Sandys) (Greek lyric C5th B.C.) : "But in another song did three goddesses [Mousai (Muses)] lull to rest the bodies of their sons. The first of these [Terpsikhore (Terpsichore)] sang a dirge over the clear-voiced Linos (Linus) [personification of the lamentation song]; and the second [Ourania (Urania)] lamented with her latest strains Hymenaios (Hymenaeus), who was seized by Moira (Fate), when first he lay with another in wedlock; while the third [Kalliope (Calliope)] sorrowed over Ialmenos (Ialmenus), when his strength was stayed by the onset of a raging malady. But the son of Oiagros (Oeagrus) [and Kalliope], Orpheus of the golden sword."
Homeric Hymn 27 to Artemis 14 ff (trans. Evelyn-White) (Greek epic C7th - 4th B.C.) : "[Artemis] goes to the great house of her dear brother Phoibos Apollon (Phoebus Apollo), to the rich land of Delphoi (Delphi), there to order the lovely dance of the Mousai (Muses) and Kharites (Charites, Graces). There she hangs up her curved bow and her arrows, and heads and leads the dances, gracefuly arrayed, while all they utter their heavenly voice, singing."

The Abyss Stares Back
“He who fights with monsters should be careful lest he thereby become a monster. And if you gaze long into an abyss, the abyss also gazes into you.”
— Friedrich Nietzsche
I. Apollo vs. Dionysus: Two Suns of Existence
The ancient Greeks named two gods to express the war inside existence:
Apollo, god of reason, form, clarity, measure.
Dionysus, god of chaos, passion, intoxication, destruction.
Nietzsche, in The Birth of Tragedy, does not ask you to choose between them.
He shows you that both are necessary.
Art, life itself, emerges where these forces collide and dance.
Apollo builds temples, straight lines, golden proportions.
Dionysus tears them down, laughing, wild with the ecstasy of life’s raw, inarticulate surge.
One demands order.
The other demands obliteration.
Together, they forge tragedy, beauty, and horror in a single breath.
To live is to be stretched between these poles:
The longing for order, and the seduction of chaos.
The dream of meaning, and the scream of meaninglessness.
Where do you live, most of the time?
In the temple?
Or in the fever dream?
II. Master and Slave Morality: The Will Behind Good and Evil
When you call something "good," whose voice is speaking?
Yours, or the voice of the herd?
In On the Genealogy of Morality, Nietzsche dismantles the illusion that morality is eternal or universal.
He shows morality as the expression of power...or the lack of it.
Master morality is born from strength.
It defines good as nobility, vitality, power itself.
Evil is weakness, sickness, pettiness.
Slave morality is born from resentment.
It defines good as humility, meekness, suffering.
Evil becomes strength, pride, joy.
The weak, unable to triumph directly, redefine triumph itself as evil.
They invent guilt, shame, and the virtue of submission.
Morality becomes a weapon of the defeated.
Nietzsche’s point is not who is "right."
There is no outside standard.
There is only the will to power, and its endless disguises.
When you say, "This is good," ask yourself:
Is it a cry of power, or a cry for power?
III. Becoming vs. Being: Dance or Monument?
Western philosophy worshiped Being, static, eternal, unchanging truth.
But Nietzsche shifts the ground beneath our feet:
There is no being. There is only becoming.
Endless transformation. Mutation. Birth and death in every moment.
To cling to "truth" is to cling to a corpse.
The healthy soul, Nietzsche says, is a dancer, light, cruel, creative.
To live is not to fix identity in stone, but to embrace the flux:
To say yes to destruction, to contradiction, to metamorphosis without end.
Who are you trying to become?
A monument, or a movement?
IV. The Eternal Return: Would You Live This Again?
Imagine that one night, a demon whispers in your ear,
"This life, as you now live it, you must live again, and again, forever."
Every pain, every joy, every humiliation, every ecstasy, an endless loop. No escape. No redemption.
Would you curse the demon?
Or would you embrace him?
The doctrine of the Eternal Return is not cosmology.
It is a test.
It asks: Are you living a life you would want to repeat endlessly?
Not someday. Not after you fix it.
Now.
The Eternal Return demands that you become amor fati, the lover of your fate.
Not a martyr. Not a victim.
But the artist of your own recurrence.
To say "yes" to every moment.
Even to the abyss.
Especially to the abyss.
V. Final Provocation: When the Abyss Gazes Into You
When you confront the void,
you do not merely study it.
It studies you.
It reshapes you.
You think you can look at power, chaos, darkness safely, as if you are an observer, untouched.
You cannot.
The more clearly you see the abyss,
the more clearly it sees you.
Until you realize:
You are not standing on the edge.
You are already inside it.
-
Suggested assignment:
1. Write a letter to yourself as if you have already lived your life a thousand times.
2. In that letter, answer: What would you change? What would you affirm?
Let the voice be brutal. Let it be merciful. But above all, let it be honest.

Give me more tragedy, more harmony and fantasy, my dear
Set it alight, we're head over heels in love
1985 was a year, where Apollo truly felt how the burning love he had for you—his husband he adored oh so much, like the stars in the night and the sunrise in the morning—was about to vanish, slowly ever so fading like a distant memory or cloud, into nothing but emptiness.
His heart aches painfully, whenever you wouldn't sleep next to him or didn't wanted to be held in his arms anymore.
All of this started, thousands years and decades ago, with the simple and innocent question of wanting Children.
You and Apollo tried many times, but when it was clear that you couldn't birth any—there had been one success, centuries ago, but Apollo didn't want to risk your fragile health again—and I mind you, the procedure of how god and goddesses giving birth is a complexity of its own—the subject was dropped quickly and you two continued to enjoy the tranquility.
Everything had been fine, till Zeus—no one was surprised—his other siblings and deities, decided to mate with humans (more and more than they had before already) and creating Half-Bloods.
This of course arose questions in you and towards Apollo, because if the other deities could do such—why couldn't he?
So after a long argument with Apollo, who assured you he would never dare to cheat on you and then you explained, that it isn't cheating when you know it from the beginning and give consent—Apollo begrudgingly agreed.
When Camp Half-Blood had been created, albeit a messy concept in the very beginning, you wanted to live in a house with enough space of garden—so that all your children could live there. Though the Children, over the years, never wanted to came or meet you, instantly hating you after they got claimed in Camp.
~~~
It was around midnight when Apollo and you, hand in hand, strolled through the empty streets of Santa Monica—a city you've come to love, when Zeus had announced that the Olymp will be moved to the USA for a scenery change.
Apollo was happy and although this could be the last time he could be with you—before you might plead to Zeus for a divorce—Apollo felt satisfied that he could get you out of the house, you once again begun to detest whenever you passed by the empty—besides the ones with Apollo, you and the handful of children which you cared for (and still do) in the early years of your marriage with Apollo—picture frames.
Apollo had hoped, foolish perhaps even, when he takes you to a nice dinner and a midnight stroll—and maybe to a swim, fully nude, showing you passion once more—that extinguished flame, which cuts through his fated heart—which is filled sorrowful with undying love and adoration for you—so slowly painfully, that there are nights where he had vomited blood, would be burning once more again, for another eternity—so high and mighty, like Greek fire.
When walking along the beach—it has to be another checked move from fate, otherwise Apollo didn't knew how to explain the next happening—passing by the few remaining couples here and there and rolling waves are an tranquility sound to the ears—there comes a song played, from a lonesome forgotten Boombox.
Around the second time, when Alphaville's song; Sounds like a Melody, had been played again—was it the beat? the lyrics? Or the melody itself? Probably all of them together—you grabbed Apollo's hand and moved with him on the sand.
Oh, mighty stars, thought Apollo as he danced with you—body close and sometimes with distance—watching how you were so carefree and joyful again, laughing wholeheartedly and singing along to the song—which is for certain on a loop.
It's like a repeat of the longing memory—during the first night, after you had finally fully recovered, where Apollo danced with you through the clouds—so gently and soft—and when you asked—meek and shy and your voice still hoarse but honey soft—Apollo just who you are exactly (and again) and when Apollo kissed you on the lips, telling you; you're [Name], his love for endless and beyond eternity—the adoration in your eyes, were sun blinding.
And during another night, after the wedding ceremony, where you moaned out Apollos name—the moon and stars being the only witness to such intimacy—full of pleasure and love filled joy—Apollo swore to himself, to never leave you alone and only bath you in a passion the deities alone could do.
Gently you took Apollo's face in your hands, looking him in the eyes. Apollo swore, no he was certain—River Stxy and the stars above sole witness—that the gleam of adoration, you once had in your (e/c) eyes—which sucked him in, like a soft spring breeze—had returned with a new arising spark.
You leaned in, near to your husband, kissing him on the lips—biting on his lower lip to ask for entrance and fighting for a dominance, neither of you wanted to lose—and tumbling down onto the sand.
Apollo had thought, year 1985 would be the final end of the flourishing love between you and him—but it isn't, it's just the beginning of a new chapter with love much stronger than ever.
Ares, Hermes, Aphrodite and Eros had taken somewhere near cover, watching you two dance and turning respectfully away—once Apollo and you passionately devoted to one another.
Ares moved along to the song and Hermes thought, how absolutely graceless and embarrassing his brother looks like—shaking his head to get such unpleasant memory out of his mind.
»See! I told you guys, that song is real magical!« said Ares proudly and albeit a bit too loud.
»Yes, I know. It was me who send such idea to the band after all.«
»Oh hush Eros, important is that [Name] and Apollo have rekindled their love, after all I quite like my brother in law and it would be such a tragic shame if they would be separated«
»Thus why we created such brilliant plan.«
»Actually,« started Hermes, pinching the bridge of his nose and sighed out in annoyance,
»the Fates and Stars would never let it happen anyways that those lovebirds are fading from one another.«
»Hermes, shut up. You're such a mood killer.« grunted Ares.
~~~
Jason always wanted to know the story of how his parents had adopted him. When Jason was little he always thought his Papa had magically conjured him or something and Jason remembers, how you looked at him all confused and questioning yourself for about two hours.
Jason knew how his younger brother Will got adopted—his dad had a heated night with Will's biological mother and once born, she had dropped Will off to his dads—but Jason wanted to know his own story now and so he asked his parents.
It had been in 1994;
Apollo laid on the couch, watching one of those Sitcoms the humans had created and in his humble opinion, he would rather watch Cartoons or cooking shows instead of this—but it's 3 in the morning and Sitcoms are the only shows which are tolerable to watch, besides the Tele-shopping at such hour.
You still hadn't got back from the small grocery shopping you wanted to do hours ago. Apollo wasn't worried, although with the heavy pouring rain and consider your fragile health—yeah, scrap that, Apollo begun to worry about you ever so slightly.
Around five in the morning, Apollo almost fully asleep—drooling just a bit—you did come home, ringing your husband out of dreamland and—when he tiredly dazed open the doors, confused and needed a few minutes to get the current situation—pushing him out of your way, while running towards your bedroom.
»Apollo! I need hot water and milk in separate bowls and ambrosia! Real quick!« you ordered at him from above the stairs.
»What for exactly?«
»Just do as I say! Fucking please!« and Apollo did what you asked him, knowing that when you curse—at him directly—it's a serious matter.
Once upstairs inside the bedroom, with the required things on a tray, Apollo saw for what you needed them.
There, in the middle of the bed—carefully surrounded by the blankets—lay a sickly and blue looking baby, not older than perhaps a few months.
»Where did you get the child?«
»I tell you later. Mix the ambrosia with the milk and then hold the bowl under my palm so I can add my blood to it.«
Apollo had many questions, but was also perplexed at the way you tell him medical instructions when he's the one with such knowledge.
»The baby looks already close to deaths door, if you give him your blood, the chance of him surviving is fatally slim.« Apollo narrowed his eyes at you, wanting to know what or who got in your head to do such decision.
»But there is a chance! And I will take it, if you like it or not. I won't let this baby, when the fates themselves had lead me to him, abandon and die, like how it happens with me. So, by Zeus, help me or fucking leave me alone.«
By now you were crying and Apollo had taken a deep breath, realising you relieving a memory which should be buried too deep to be remembered—and that there's a desperation in your current doing he couldn't decipher.
It had been hours after you have giving the baby, so small and fragile, the mixture of either possible life or death—and gentle cradling him between you and Apollo.
»Would you mind telling me now, where you found him?«
»In a alley, behinds piles of trash, after I finished grocery—oh, the bags are still in the car—and like I couldn't just let him there all by himself, but no one of the humans wanted to help, so I took him here.«
»He's mother probably abandoned him...«
»Her loss. Now the little warrior has two dads, who will cater him in endless love«
And when the first cries came, a sign that the boy had survived, Apollo and you smiled at each other.
»What should be his name, my love?«
»Jason will be his name.«
We need the ecstasy, the jealousy, the comedy of love
The ringing of your laughter, sounds like a melody

Fan art GI x PJ Part 1
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Since I have free time, a love for Percy Jackson, a nascent obsession with Genshin Impact (to the point that I spoiled the entire story and I'm barely in Liyue, finishing Act I, so I'm sorry if it's inaccurate with canon) and a very crazy head that won't leave me alone until I get this out of my head, here is my fanart combining GI x PJ.
Starting to present the characters and the lore that I invented, there is Dionysus, who would be Venti with some changes. Before Dionysus, there was Hermes as the first anemo archon (I couldn't leave out my middle child) Dionysus got the position just a few years after Hermes, who died in the war against Khaenri'ah by orders of Celestia (which here would be Kronos), Dionysus never got to meet Hermes, but he did learn his stories from the winds as soon as he became archon Also Dionysus being the god of madness, I definitely see him as someone who would encourage Monstadt to live as freely and happily as possible, and he is also the reason why Monstadt's parties and festivals are so legendary throughout Teyvat.
On the other hand, the next archon is Apollo, geo archon for several, several reasons... (I blame every post on ao3 and Tumblr by @apollosgiftofprophecy and @tsarinatorment, they put a love for Apollo and mythology in me that I appreciate, except here because I thought more about Apollo than mythology half of the characters XD)
First Apollo has some control with Zeus regarding law and order, god of civilization, and is in some way seen as the protector of tombs and cemeteries, it is wonderful that Zhongli (archon Geo in Genshin Impact) works in a funeral home, is related to the law as the god of contracts and has watched over Liyue and its inhabitants, having great influence on its people and how it grew as a civilization In addition to that he also has some influence on sailors and ships, as the patron of sailors, so Liyue being a port city, well discarded and taken Apollo was Zhongli's turn As also the god of knowledge.
I love being a rat so he is the only living archon in this UA who went through the war of the archons, Khaenri'ah and until today, who would take the role of Guizhong would be Jacinto naturally (dead, shipped with Zhongli / Apollo) and who would take the role of Xiao would be Nico di Angelo (dwarf, traumatized... is perfect) plus I can keep the dynamic of Dionysus as Nico's therapist (something that is a little different from canon, Xiao does not receive therapy from Venti, but rather he purifies him) but that would remain as a separate thing from their relationship Also, as an extra Zhongli reviews the future of Liyue to bring a guide on how to prosper (Apollo and his mastery of prophecy), for certain reasons (Artemis) is that he would decide to retire as archon and continue working at the funeral home discreetly with Nico, occasionally hanging out at the orphanage with the children.
Respect to Artemis I will talk about her in her fanart, and her relationship with Apollo along with what happened here
Nico on his side has been with Apollo since the war of the archons, as his right hand (previously he had other companions, similar to the adeptus who serve Rex Lápiz) the most notable is Commodus, who went crazy killing corrupt gods, beings of the abyss and the cherry on top was Apollo's rejection for his feelings, still hurt by the death of Hyacinth (with whom unlike Guizhong, he would be god of flowers) but they would have spent almost as much time as Zhongli and Guizhong together (close to 1000 years if I'm not mistaken, I appreciate the corrections) so he would continue fighting with a broken heart.
(PS: I also thought of Branchus as Guizhong but, Guizhong fell in the war, Hyacinth did not die a peaceful death then... well, tragedy with tragedy).
Continuing with Nico, he would be mourning for his companions but with Apollo they decided to take it easy, and he was in Apollo's retirement plan (who says that with stone and an archon's influence you can't make a fake corpse?) and he has been improving with the mourning and trauma of the war with the help of Dionysus and the passage of time.
Lastly Meg, because she is the strongest daughter of Demeter she couldn't just be left as an extra, no, no, no.
I understand than Neuvillette is the hydro dragon reborn as her own offspring, here Meg would be the remains of the essence of Demeter, discovered by Artemis who thought she was a child of an endangered species and raised her, when what happened with Artemis happened (the same as with Rukkhadevata, but whoever reads this and is part of the PJO fandom will not know) Apollo took her under his custody with Nico and now she works with them, apart from living with them, in the funeral home .
Speaking of the designs, I tried to make the clothes as faithful as I could, Apollo with Liyue clothes, some Greek and Sumeru for his sister (the moon earring that he has is Artemis's), with white eye shadow (also for his sister that I designed with white locks), a book, a random kid from the orphanage with long hair in a braid (courtesy of Meg who wanted to practice and Nico doesn't let him).
Nico with long hair (because he lived with Apollo for so long he started to like to wear his hair a bit long, also in reference to ancient China and the custom of not cutting his hair), his usual dark circles and his hidden vision on his back.
Meg with a Sumeru bird (coincidentally called Peaches) somewhat more Sumerian clothes and a spear, she is trying to learn to fight with other weapons apart from her classic twin swords.
And Dionysus with a good bottle of Dandelion Wine, classic from Monstadt, and more Monstadt clothes too.
