for ardyn x aera "Whaat? Say something! Am I so beautiful that you've no words left?"
@lordzannis Coming right up!
Tumblr media
"C'mon, brother!" Somnus threw his arm over Ardyn's shoulder, grinning so widely that Ardyn was surprised his teeth didn't fall from his mouth. "Your debut night should be one of enchantment, not of gloom!"
Ardyn made a face, his nose twitching from the strong smell of alcohol on Somnus's breath. He could almost taste it at the back of his throat, shuddering involuntarily.
"Easy for you to say when you've already drunk half the winery before the festivities…"
"They don't call it liquid courage for nothing!" Somnus chuckled, then sighed and let go of Ardyn upon seeing his frown. "Are you really going to let one mishap ruin your mood?"
"It wasn't just any mishap," Ardyn firmly corrected, his glare softening. "Our stunt with the impromptu race between our chocobos nearly cost a child her life. Forgive me for not being keen to put on a show for the locals while the guilt weighs on my conscience."
Somnus furrowed his brows. For all his philandering and playfulness, shame crept into his eyes for a few seconds as he allowed Ardyn to brood.
"Look," Somnus sighed, "you already took the fall for us, though it was me who goaded you. You set things right with father and compensated the family of that little one for duress. You're going to be the next king of Lucis. Self-imposed suffering will only get you so far."
"And as the future king, I should have led with maturity rather than behaving impetuously."
"Yes," Somnus nodded, smiling and frowning at once. "But you forget yourself. At the end of the day, you're just a boy. Just as I am."
Ardyn looked up and met Somnus's gaze. His words lacked their father's tact, but simplicity often spoke louder than eloquence.
Despite Somnus being twenty and Ardyn himself having just turned twenty-three, they were both still kids at the end of the day, and kids made mistakes. Humans made mistakes. Even those of royal blood.
Ardyn began to crack a smile, his lips growing wider as Somnus grabbed either side of his shoulders and gave him a playful shake to snap him out of his despondency.
I can let this go for now...
"C'mon, I know something that'll cheer you up!" Somnus exclaimed.
Ardyn scoffed, raising a brow. "This isn't like that time you kicked me into a shrub in front of the council, right?"
"We've been through that; it was an accident!" Somnus threw his hands up in surrender as he led Ardyn down the corridor of the palace, coming upon the large doors that led to the courtyard where most of the guests had gathered. They stuck close to the shadows at Somnus's behest and stopped by a pillar to hide.
"What on Eos are we skulking around like daemons for?" Ardyn frowned, crossing his arms as Somnus playfully gestured to a crowd of women.
"See that?"
"See who?"
"Are you blind?" Somnus balked. "Can't you see that's Aera among the beautiful hens over there? Y'know, our old playmate?"
Ardyn's lips parted in confusion as he squinted into the flood of people, scouting for the maidens Somnus had pointed out. There were many women present tonight, and Ardyn couldn't help but blush a little. He knew this was the doing of their father—casting out the net to try to entice potential suitors to present themselves to the future Lucian king. It wasn't an appealing concept, especially when at the end of the day, he wouldn't get to choose his mate. He had the illusion of choice.
Suddenly, the negative imaginings in Ardyn's mind ceased as his eyes settled on the most breathtaking creature he had ever seen. Her body was clothed in a gorgeous cerulean dress, contrasting with the dark sylleblossoms whose petals kissed the locks of her shoulder-length hair. Small crystals on the gown accentuated her waist and the bottom of her dress. But what was most appealing of all was her smile, and how all the noise outside disappeared, leaving Ardyn's ears at the mercy of her little noises and giggles.
There she was...
The little girl he and Somnus once used to play with during their childhood, now a grown woman.
She was more radiant than the flowers in her hair.
"Gods…" It was the only coherent word Ardyn could form as his heart skipped a beat. He felt like fainting.
"Right?" Somnus snickered, also admiring the work of art before his eyes while he dragged his brother out from their hiding spot. "She certainly blossomed!"
"And then some…"
"Huh?"
"Nothing!" Ardyn blinked, pinching the bridge of his nose to snap out the daze of being twitterpated.
While trying to compose himself, he ignored the rest of Somnus's ramblings and didn't notice Aera and two other girls heading straight for them.
Dumbfounded couldn't quite summarize what Ardyn felt as Aera stood a few feet away from him, but it was the closest word he had. She had been adorable as a child, but never in a million years did he imagine himself growing weak in the knees at her mere presence as adults. This power she unknowingly had over him scared Ardyn. At the same time, he wanted to drown in it. To drown in her, however she would hold space for him.
"Whaat? Say something! Am I so beautiful that you've no words left?"
Ardyn was hypnotized by her mouth and the way her eyes glimmered against the nearby candles, making his brain glitch as he stared at her like a deer caught in headlights. It was only when Somnus gave him a painful nudge to his ribs did he snap out of it.
"P-pretty girl!" Ardyn blurted out, his cheeks turning deep red as the other women at Aera's side covered their mouths in a poor attempt to hide their laughs. He cleared his throat, giving a slight bow with his head toward Aera out of respect in a vain attempt to regain composure and formality.
"Apologies, Lady Fleuret," Ardyn said gently. As he straightened up, his eyes met hers, and he felt his knees wanting to buckle again. He hid his nervousness with a sincere smile and sighed contentedly. "It's not every day I get to gaze upon one so enchanting. Time has been quite generous to you. It's an honor to see you after all these years."
"And you as well, Ardyn. For all counts!" Aera giggled, smiling sincerely at him.
"That does warm the heart. Considering as I recall having to put both you and Somnus on time outs for being little devils." Ardyn playfully quipped.
"I never held that against you! You were doing us both a favor in the grand scheme of things." Aera laughed. Her eyes seemed to grow with fascination as she looked him over, her smile widening. "I've truly missed you, Ardyn. I feel fortunate that the gods decided our families were to meet again."
Damn the gods right now...Ardyn thought. However, if the gods could stop time and let them be the only two souls on Eos for five minutes, Ardyn would have willed it into existence. Especially with the way she looked at him—not as a boy, not as the next king of Lucis, but as a man she obviously admired.
And just like that, the memory faded—filed away into the back of his subconscious as Ardyn blinked. The Imperial Banquet—one of Niflheim's finest events—seeped back into his reality.
Ardyn clutched the stem of his wine glass while he watched men and women dance the night away. He wasn't one to feel envious, but a deep yearning stirred in his heart as he envisioned that night he became reacquainted with Aera and how their bodies danced as one. Despite Somnus's meddling and his own failed attempts to woo her, she had chosen Ardyn to take the lead and guide her. As if the gods had ordained it so.
He pressed the glass to his lips, gulping down the wine as if consuming poison with great reverence.
If he could destroy Eos a million times over to dance with Aera—to feel again—he'd gleefully purge every last soul his eyes settled on.

Summary: Aera has dinner with Somnus, and returns to the waterfall.
This is a prequel of sorts to my In the Shadow of the Six story, featuring the relationship between Aera and Adagium (God!Ardyn). It's not necessary to read that fic to enjoy this one, though!

Until Darkness Descends
  CHAPTER: 1
FANDOM: Final Fantasy XV
MAIN PAIR: Ardyn Izunia x Reader
SEC PAIR: Gladiolus Amicitia x Reader
WARNING: Reader starts off as a minor but nothing romantic or intimate happens between her and Ardyn(Gladiolus comes much later)
NOTE: Reader is loosely based on Aera Fleuret
Ardyn watched as the sun disappeared from the aging sky, its waning light basked the disk of cauthess in a weak golden hue. He felt drawn to this place, drawn to this view.  It was the only sight in this strange world that remained unchanged by the passage of time. A celestial body towering over the corpse of a once great city. The city of Solheim. The very place where he married her.
The immortal clenched his jaw against the anger that seared his veins like the flames of Ifrit.  Soon. He thought as he turned away from the sight of the meteorite. Soon he’ll have his revenge against the very ones who wronged you both. He recently caught word that the crystal finally selected its champion, the little Prince Noctis. It would be so terribly easy to kill the boy as he is now, infiltrate the deceptively impenetrable walls of the citadel and smother the young child in his sleep, leave his corpse for his wet nurse to find the next morning. But doing so would reward him with very little satisfaction.
No. He’ll allow the boy to grow, to blossom into the champion the world had awaited for 2,000 years. Once the prince reaches the pinnacle of his power that’s when Ardyn will allow himself to kill him. Then it will all be over. His traitorous brother’s bloodline will cease to be and all of his accomplishments will crumple in the wake of Ardyn’s victory. The thought was enough to bring an icy smile to his face.
He walked up the steps of Lestallum, having no destination in mind other than to enjoy the evening air that had lost its oppressive heat. This city was quite dreadful during the day, always scorchingly hot with a hostile sun. Ardyn may have regenerative powers but not even they are enough to shield him from the pain of the sun’s punishing rays. No matter how many layers he wore in this city, it would always feel like a million needles were sinking into his skin whenever the sun was out.
The usual busy streets were surprisingly empty, save for the occasional wandering soul. He overheard one of them speak of a traveling circus that was in town, just over the stairs where the farmer’s market would be during the day. Ardyn had no desire to be around crowds so he walked the opposite direction. He skidded to a halt when a little girl dashed across his path. You were an exuberant little thing with pink ribbons in your hair. Far too energetic, like most young children are, and seemed quite the handful as you chased after a butterfly, jumping into the air and trying to grab it with stubby little fingers.
He heard a loud smack. Your wide eyes twinkled with satisfaction as you opened your hands to reveal your prize. A gasp fell from your lips when all you found was the crushed mangled remains of the poor thing. That gasp turned into a full blown sob as you stared at the carnage that soiled your tiny hands.
Ardyn rolled his eyes. Your cries were truly aggravating. He could always kill you. A petulant child wouldn’t be missed but your death wasn’t worth the energy. He was about to leave when your hands began to glow an ethereal mint green. Ardyn’s eyes widened as he watched the broken pieces of the butterfly reassemble itself, as though being glued back together by an invisible force. Once the green glow vanished, the butterfly flew away as though it was never dead.
In all his years Ardyn had never seen such a feat be done. Not even the Oracle could reanimate the dead. Who was this child? He approached you. Your wide eyes were still glued to your tiny hands as though you were waiting for them to glow again. “How fascinating, to see a small child perform a miracle of that caliber which has never been done before. Was that your first time reanimating the dead, child?”
You jolted at the sound of his voice and turned to face him. His confident steps faltered. Nothing could perturb Ardyn, not having a sword held against his neck or being faced with the threat of eternal anguish. But this, the sight before him, was enough to force his heart to sledgehammer against his chest with a feeling he couldn’t quite describe. How is this possible? Could he be dreaming? But the immortal doesn’t sleep, he hasn’t for the past 2,000 years. He still pinched his wrist just to be sure.
It was like gazing into the past. You looked just like Aera, the way he remembered when they first met as children. In all the years Ardyn traversed the landscape since his release, he had never stumbled across anyone who resembled his beloved so closely they could be a mirrored image.
You sniffled and it was enough to break the man out of his meandering thoughts. “I-I don’t know what I did!” You cried.
“Now, now, there is no need for tears.” Ardyn said, kneeling to be eye level with you. “What you did was a truly marvelous thing.” With the wave of his hand, a handkerchief suddenly appeared in his grasp and he used it to dry the tears that ran down your face.
“You can do magic, too?” You asked.
Ardyn smiled and this time the warmth behind it didn’t feel fake or forced. “Why yes, but nothing as miraculous as yours.”
You gasped and clasped your hands together in front of you, his words reviving the excitement in your glistening orbs. “Does that mean you’re a magician?”
He chuckled and decided to indulge in your childish whims. “Of sorts I suppose.”
“Uncle Renji is a magician too! But mama and papa say his magic isn’t real, but I’ve seen him pull a rabbit out of his hat! Can you do that too, mister?”
“I have never tried but I am sure I could.” Ardyn answered.
You grabbed his hand and tugged until he stood to his full height. “Maybe you can join our circus! Mama did say we need another magician.” You bounced excitedly before  leading him through the network of stairs and twisting back roads that made up the Lestallum city landscape.
He still couldn’t quite figure you out, the question your existence raised. Were you perhaps a descendant of Aera’s sister? But her bloodline, as far as Ardyn knew, only consisted of the current members of house Fleuret. Queen Ceras, princess Lunafreya, and prince Ravus, there was no other Fleuret and you did not look like one either. Your lustrous curls and the hue of your eyes denoted that of house (L/N), the once proud noble family of Solheim who stood over all others as the only people who understood the Gods’ tongue. With the destruction of Solhelm came the end of the (L/N) house, only Aera and her sister remained. So no, you weren’t a Fleuret. But there was no other explanation for your appearance. Or perhaps there was and he just didn’t want to entertain it.
So wrapped up in thought, he didn’t realize you led them to a dead end until you suddenly stopped walking.  “Dearest, are you lost?”
“I think so.” You hang your head in shame.
“Don’t fret over it, this city is not the easiest to traverse. Fortunately, I believe I do recall where your circus is located. It is just over yonder.” He said as he picked her up. “Before I forget, what is your name?”
“Aera.” You preened. “What’s yours, mister?”
Ardyn frowned. You even have the same name as his Aera. The same childhood face, the same name, and childhood voice. Could this truly be just a mere coincidence? He narrowed his eyes. Nay, situations as peculiar as this never are. Just what are those dastardly gods planning? Why add a new player to the prophecy and why give her the same name and face as his beloved? Anger rose within him like black smoke from a raging fire, threatening to suffocate all other thoughts in its wake. It was all the immortal could do not to let his soar mood show. If you were truly a new player in the game he needed you to not be wary of him. He must observe you and determine what your role is in all of this. Only then would he be able to figure out what to do with you.
“Mister?” You squeaked in that tiny voice of yours.
Ardyn plastered a smile onto his face but it felt as cold and lifeless as stone. “Please forgive me, dearest. It seems I lost myself in thought. You may call me Uncle Ardyn.”

Chapter 2: Staying || Bound By Destiny (Ardyn Izunia x Reader)
Summary:
You may have read stories of girls (and boys) being teleported into gaming worlds such as Final Fantasy XV, but have you ever imagined that one of them gets teleported into our world? Y/N is a 25-year-old young woman who just escaped from an abusive relationship. One night, an unexpected thing happened while Y/N was about to sleep. A canon character got transported into her world. Chancellor Ardyn Izunia is known as a tragic man with a devastating past. The Gods from his world decided to punish him by cursing him that he'd never find love and sending him into a new world called Earth.
What would happen when Ardyn meets Y/N? Will he love her?
---------------------------------------------
Ardyn was awake and he grinned at her, causing Y/N to blush. Just why? Why did she have to have a crush on Ardyn, who is a fictional character? Yet, he was here. She stuttered, trying to say words while placing the fedora hat away on the chair and where Ardyn's trench coat was.
"I-I'm sorry! I didn't expect you to wake up fast!" Y/N stuttered
Ardyn showed a sly smile and sat up. "I was just teasing you, my dear." He then looked around, and his sly teasing dropped to a frown. He looked even more concerned. "Where am I?"
"You are at my apartment," Y/N answered Ardyn's question. "I was minding my business when I found something glowing and that's when you appeared."
Ardyn was a bit impressed but he felt also... thankful. This young woman saved his life. If no one stepped in to save him, he would have lived on the streets, on this unknown planet. Wait, this is planet Earth like Shiva said? Is this his punishment? Being stuck on this planet with possibly no way home? How can he work then as the chancellor? Not to mention, he was someone shrouded with mystery. Y/N tilted her head a bit to the side and Ardyn looked at her.
"Is this planet Earth?"
Y/N nodded. She was surprised. How did Ardyn know that this is Earth? This is not Eos, that's for sure. "Can I ask what happened?"
Ardyn decided that it was best to explain so he did. Y/N listened to every detail. She never heard anything like that before. Sure, some people wrote about a canon character being teleported to Earth, someone being teleported into the franchise world, or a franchise being collaborated with another franchise. She wondered if the government held a deep secret, a special connection with the outside world somewhere in the universe. Was Eos connected to Earth?
Once Ardyn finished explaining, he didn't stop looking at Y/N. He just noticed something. She was a beauty. And also, she looked a little bit similar to his deceased lover, Aera. Y/N may not have the same blond hair color or blue eyes, but she had some similarities. Y/N was clueless about it but she went on: "Wow... That must suck." She then became suspicious and crossed her arms. "You aren't here to make here forever dark, are you?"
Ardyn couldn't help but chuckle. How foolish she was. He did want to bring darkness in Eos after being betrayed by the Astrals and younger brother, Somnus. No one helped him. Even perhaps Aera knew what was going to happen to him. Why didn't she warn him about it? Or tell him? Ardyn held even anger towards his once beloved. But he missed her dearly. What if... Y/N was a reincarnation version of Aera? Impossible. "No. I failed to bring darkness for my revenge. His Majesty defeated me in a battle."
Y/N couldn't help but feel sorry for him. "It's because of the betrayal, right?"
Ardyn looked at Y/N with his dark eyes, causing her to shudder. She should've been more careful. "How do you know that, my dear?"
Y/N wanted to come up with something, to make Ardyn feel that he wasn't bad. But Ardyn detests lairs and he can detect it easily when someone is lying. She sighed softly and decided to tell the truth. "You are a... a..."
"A what, my dear?"
"Fictional character," Y/N responded nervously.
Ardyn was taken aback. How was this possible? Was he a fictional character on this planet? How? He saw Y/N looking nervously at him. He remembered so many victims... The ones he made nervous and killed them. But he could've killed Y/N right now and there. Or some minutes ago but she... saved his life. She was also a beauty and she reminds him of Aera. She was also like a new creature that he had met on Earth. But she was a human like him. He also wanted to see if magic existed on this planet. He has Starscourge after saving many infected ones when he was not immortal at the time. He was only 33 years old and stuck forever in this body.
"I-I'm sorry to disappoint you, sir. I know that it's a lot to take in."
Ardyn chuckled and even heck, he even laughed a bit! "We are not in public, my dear. This is not Eos now, isn't it? Just call me Ardyn."
Y/N smiled a bit. "Very well then, ... Ardyn." She then stood up and went to her closet. She opened it and searched for a baggy shirt that would fit Ardyn. He couldn't help but watch her. Just as he was about to ask what she was doing, Y/N let out an "Aha!" and showed Ardyn a baggy black shirt. "You can stay here if you want. I don't want you to sleep on the streets."
"That is very kind of you, my dear," Ardyn said with a genuine thankful smile as Y/N gave him the black baggy shirt. "Where may I change?"
"Follow me." Y/N led the way as Ardyn followed her. The bathroom was not far. Y/N turned the light on as she entered her bathroom. There was a bathtub with curtains and a toilet. Oh, the bathtub also looked nice and big enough for your legs to be in the water too. Just imagine a hot relaxing water in the bathtub...
"You can change in here."
Ardyn entered while Y/N closed the door to give Ardyn privacy. She went to the kitchen to make something for Ardyn. What was his favorite food to eat? She decided to make him some (choice). She knew that Ardyn lived for many years to taste all kinds of foods. So, what was his favorite? Ardyn came out through the door and heard noises in the kitchen. He wore now a baggy shirt and he took out his shoes as well. He saw a small corridor/hallway that led towards the front door to the outside and there were Y/N shoes so he placed them down next to hers. He went to the kitchen and there he saw Y/N making food.
"Ah, you're done. I made some food for you," Y/N said as she turned around with a plate of food on it. "Have a seat."
Ardyn did as told and he sat down. This world is indeed a bit strange for him. He was treated all the time as someone important since he was a chancellor, the one of Niflheim. Y/N set the plate down in front of him and sat down across from him. He began eating while the girl watched him. "How does it taste?"
"Splendid!"
After eating, Y/N led him to the living room. "Now about the sleep. When looking at you and since you are a chancellor, you sleep in beds?"
Ardyn smirked with a chuckle. "My dear, I am immortal, I don't need sleep. But yes, I sleep in beds."
Y/N nodded. "How about I take the couch and you sleep in my bed?"
"Now, my dear, it's not wise for a gentleman to let a woman sleep on the couch," Ardyn said with a frown. "How about we share the bed?"
Y/N stiffed. She blushed. Never had she shared a bed with a man before. But Ardyn is her damn crush and yet he was here! Ardyn grinned once he noticed her blush. Y/N grumbled a "Fine" before walking to her bedroom, Ardyn following close behind. What he was saying is the truth. It's not wise for a gentleman to let a woman sleep on the couch. Y/N was already in her short pajamas and laid down in bed. Ardyn laid down next to her and closed his eyes. Like he said, he didn't need sleep since he was immortal. Y/N moved to sleep on her stomach and slowly closed her eyes. Sleep took her in rather quickly.

If you’re wanting a request from the “trauma” prompt list, how about “Is there anything I can do to help?” For Ardyn x Reader
@blossom-adventures coming up! 💙
Tumblr media
There was not a single day that passed that Ardyn didn't think about Aera. She was as much a part of him as air was to his lungs; a lifeforce that was needed to sustain what was left of him as a man. That didn't mean the memories of her weren't painful.
Most days Ardyn could handle the trauma of her death. He had no control over her actions, and therefore couldn't have spared Aera the blow of Somnus's sword. She chose to put herself in the line of fire. When Ardyn really thought hard about the day he lost everything, it dawned on him that if Somnus hadn't killed her, Ardyn himself would've. Both brothers were more than determined to rip the other in half. Gods be damned if anyone tried to stop it. Neither of them could be reasoned with once the last straw broke.
The what ifs of the circumstance plagued Ardyn more so than the memory. Accompanied by the 2,000 years worth of hallucinations, and Bahamut rubbing salt in the wound, Ardyn's usual tricks to remain present fell on deaf ears. He called out of work. His duties as chancellor could wait while he tried to regain control.
Ardyn paced around his chambers for most of the day. He would sit down every so often, carding his fingers through his hair. Muscles tensing as flashbacks and the smell of blood heavily lingered in his mind and heart. He was spinning away, unraveling the persona he had worked hard to maintain while working for Niflheim. Soon enough he was screaming at himself. Blaming his misfortunes on the Gods and his own shortcomings as a healer and a man. He had failed so many people who loved him.
Hours later, Ardyn was sitting at the edge of his bed. His amber eyes looked out the window to the city. The sun was setting upon Gralea. The night would come, and he'd be able to roam without feeling the burn of the rays upon the scourge that dwelled under his skin. He felt hollow.
"Ardyn?" Y/N's voice called out. His eyes widened for a split second before turning his head.
"Hm?"
"The food you ordered, it's ready."
"I see." Ardyn replied. He focused his eyes again on the sunset. Ignoring Y/N's footsteps as they approached him.
"I heard you didn't go to work," Y/N began while they stood close to the bed and minded his space. "The staff we're wondering if you were alright."
An unamused chuckle left him. "I'm sure the staff were very much delighted my presence was missing. I'm aware of my less than stellar reputation."
Y/N made a face. "I'm not lying. People were wondering if you were sick."
"Why do you work for me?" Ardyn changed the subject. Not wanting to hear he happened to be today's gossip in court. His eyes closed in on Y/N, gaze narrowing.
"You took a chance on me when the others wouldn't," Y/N was taken back by his sudden question, but answered honestly. "It's been an honor serving you. Helping around where I can, making sure you stay on task. It beats scavenging for food out of garbage on the street. You may have given me work, but I chose to work with you."
Chose. Ardyn thought to himself.
"And why would you do something so ridiculous?" Ardyn countered. His eyes continued to study Y/N, watching carefully as they stepped closer to him.
"Because I can tell beneath your bullshit you're miserable," Y/N said sarcastically "Misery loves company."
Ardyn smirked at the comment. He shook his head and sighed. "I could have you hanged for talking to me in such a manner."
"Well, good luck finding anyone else to do your laundry and secretary work. Word of mouth at Zegnautus Keep is you've outworn your welcome with personal retainers."
There was a long pause before Y/N furrowed their brows and decided to get to the heart of the issue, sensing Ardyn wasn't himself.
"I know you don't exactly care for people, but is there anything I can do to help?"
"Why would I need your help?"
"You're trembling."
Ardyn was puzzled at first, then looked down at his hands that were resting atop his knees. Sure enough, his fingertips were quaking.
"So it would seem."
"Ardyn--"
"Y/N, join me."
"What?"
"Sit by my side."
"Ok..." Y/N furrowed their brows. The request was an odd one, but they complied. There was some hesitance before they took a seat upon the mattress. Their right leg was pressed to Ardyn's left. Y/N turned their head, watching while Ardyn stared forward and blinked a few times.
"Do you know what loss is?"
Y/N didn't answer right away. Their mind combed through the many experiences they had regarding the subject.
"Yeah, yeah I do."
"How do you personally handle the nonsense that comes with it?"
"That's...not an easy thing to answer but," Y/N bit the inside of their lip while thinking it over. "I remind myself the feelings I have, are not permanent. I try to connect with others where I can, especially if I'm dealing with a passing. Not that it's my business, did someone close die today? Is that why you were absent?"
Ardyn glared, casting his gaze elsewhere. "You can say that."
"I'm sorry--"
"Don't be. I don't need the pity."
Y/N refrained from saying anything else, deciding to let Ardyn to take the wheel of the conversation. Given what little they understood regarding his predicament, the last thing he needed was someone telling him what to do. Y/N couldn't recall there being anyone Ardyn was close with in Gralea. Then again he had his secrets. There was a reason he was a man of a million rumors amongst Niflheim citizens.
"Y/N," Ardyn sighed and put his left hand upon Y/N's right knee. He nearly withdrew, feeling them tense from the touch but remained upon seeing they weren't afraid. "Would it be too much trouble to ask for a distraction?"
"No, it wouldn't be a problem." Y/N shook their head. Their eyes briefly glanced at his hand. "What did you have in mind?"
"It's a rather odd request but--" Gods, he was really going to do this. "Would it be alright if I embraced you?"
"You're asking me for a hug?" Y/N couldn't help but let out a small laugh. That was the last thing they ever expected a man such as himself to say.
"You're right, it's pathetic." Ardyn sighed.
"No, no it's not." Y/N grimaced, realizing how callous their tone must've come across. "I just--it was--unexpected, but I have no problem with that. Are you okay with this though?"
"Beg pardon?"
"I mean--you're the chancellor, and I'm kinda at the bottom of the food chain. Is this appropriate?"
Ardyn smiled a little, shaking his head. "It's only inappropriate if I deem it so. In public, it would be another matter entirely. Alas we don't have an audience therefore it's not an issue to begin with."
"Alright, well--" Y/N gestured out with their arms and shrugged before settling them. A small smile graced their mouth. "I'm ready when you are."
Ardyn rolled his eyes albeit in an amused manner. He let the awkward energy between himself and Y/N settle down before making his move. Slowly, and with consideration, Ardyn wrapped an arm around Y/N's waist. He pulled their body into his, leaning his head against theirs. A nervous swallow came and went. Realizing this was the first time in almost 2,000 years since he had hugged anyone. He wasn't sure what to make of it at first, until a feeling of calm began to tide over. He was grounding again, little by little.
Y/N hesitated before wrapping their arms around Ardyn's body, pressing their cheek more into his chest. He seemed to be emboldened by that for they could feel his other hand atop of their head. His fingertips carding against their scalp. This went on for a while. Both remaining still in each other's presence.
"What are you thinking about?" Y/N asked quietly.
"A million things," Ardyn admitted. "And how I used to hold her like this."
Y/N hummed in response. There was a lot they wanted to ask Ardyn regarding the person he had lost. From his cadence, it sounded like it had been years since he had spoken to her. An ex perhaps? It was difficult to be certain, but Y/N knew it wasn't their place to pry. Ardyn would tell them when he was ready, if he ever was.
"She was lucky to have someone powerful like you that cared," Y/N reassured. "And I'm sure she was lovely."
Powerful. Ardyn thought bitterly to himself. He didn't feel so strong recalling the glazed look Aera had while she died in his arms. Even with the scourge and his immortality, Ardyn felt weak like any other man. He was tired. Tired of playing a role in the Gods grand theater. It would be over soon. He had to have patience.
The thoughts drifted away the longer he held onto Y/N. They were alive. He was holding a living person right now, and not the corpse of his beloved. No harm had come to them. The creature comfort of the thought was enough to calm him considerably.
"Yes, she truly was." Ardyn replied softly, his chin resting atop of Y/N's head while his hand retreated from their scalp. The hand snaked around Y/N's body, meeting his other arm that had been embracing them.
"Are you alright with prolonging this?" He asked.
"I'm fine with it," Y/N smiled against him, chuckling for a moment. "At least you smell good. I'm not going to pass out anytime soon."
"Har-har," Ardyn muttered. He too smiled. Maybe. Maybe the last of his days before meeting fate didn't have to be so bad. Especially if he could enjoy something so miniscule like an embrace once more.

Hello hello! What I'm about to ask of below just recently got on my mind, since I haven't roleplayed this specific game in a while. My name is Nay, and I am 16+, looking for a Final Fantasy XV roleplay. When I first roleplayed this game, I really enjoyed the person that I roleplayed with, but they've since stopped roleplaying in general, so I was hoping to find a new partner to see if I can reawaken the same feeling I did with them. I'm looking to roleplay against any of the main characters, Noctis, Prompto, Ignis, or Gladiolus. I'm also looking to roleplay against a Ravus or an Ardyn! I can play either a canon character (Lunafreya, Aera), or an OC of mine that's fairly developed due to the help of my friend. I don't have a specific plot in mind at this very moment, but I'd love to roleplay with someone to either flesh out an OC or to see how well I can roleplay canon characters. This can be OC x Canon or Canon x Canon. I am totally willing to double up if you want to play an OC. Please do like this post or message me @naptimes-bestfriend !
