Jisoo: 

- You guys had headed off to some cozy coffee shop that had like a mini library there, you guys walked inside  feeling the warmth and the comfortable smell of coffee. You told her that you were going to order it so she could just look around.

- “So I would like to have a hot choco and lemon cake, my wife will have a coffee and strawberry cake.”

- Oh boy! She turned so fast to look at you that she was certain that she broke her neck, YOU CALLED HER WHAT? Her heart was hammering in her chest right now.

- Since your arms were linked you literally brought her to your table. She was still looking at you with wide eyes, but the spark was visible there.

- “What?” You asked, touching your face to see if something was on it. Jisoo couldn't help the big beautiful smile that appeared on her face alongside the blush too.

- “So...I'm your wife now?” This time she had a teasing smirk on her face and you were the one blushing, “W-well...eventually...I hope.” You manage to get out through your embarrassment.

- Jisoo's smile only became more brightly, and soon after you guys were in a comfortable conversation while enjoying you guys order.

- Jisoo couldn't deny that the idea of having you calling her WIFE officially was tempting and she couldn't wait for this day to come, she's sure you're the one.

Jennie:

- You're a famous streamer, so it came as a surprise when you guys' relationship was announced online. Well, it actually was an accident.

- It's also good to say that this small moment was eternalized in a clip and everyone was aware of you guys' relationship.

- So right now here you guys were posing for the photos, you were Dressed in a simple all black suit with a corset and some jewelry, your hair was free and wild with your gorgeous curls, and Rosé was dressed in a elegant backless black dress, she black gloves on and her hair was slightly curly.

- Soon after you were being called for an interview, Rosé gave a peck and settled herself with some of you guys' staff not far from you, she was able to hear you perfectly fine, so imagine her face getting red like a tomato and her eyes widened after hearing you calling her wife.

- You found an interesting video of a compilation of girls calling their boyfriend's husband and recorded their reaction, so you thought ‘Why not do this with your Lali? Besides, you were missing her so it would be a win-win situation.

- You put your shoe and coat on, made sure that everything was fine, locked the door and got inside your car, driving off  to grab some coffee and snacks for her and the girls.

- Fast forward and you were right in front of their dance room door knocking on it, seeing Jisoo opening it for you.

- “Y/n? What are you doing here?” the older woman asked you, holding the bags with their coffees and snacks. “Oh! I'm here to deliver you guys this.” You pointed to the bag, “and also because I miss my wife, aka, Lalisa.” You said walking inside the room after Jisoo made space for you to enter.

- There you saw a smiling duck, your girlfriend Lisa, she had heard your voice and yes, she heard you calling her wife, and that's why you guys almost hit the ground after she decided to jump on you out of nowhere.

- The girls only laughed and snickered at your guys cute moment and decided to sit a little bit far away from you guys to give y'all some privacy.

- Miss Manoban was giggling and kissing you everywhere, gosh she was smitten by you!

- “Can you call me wife again?” She asked you with those big doe eyes, giving you a hard time to say no.

- “Hi wife!” You with a smile on your face as she was squealing like a teenager, can't blame her, she's just so enamored by that just the thought of this happening one day gives her so many butterflies.

Hi there. You may regret asking for my thoughts.

Let me preface this by saying that I came into this show wanting to like it. I think Tom Holland is a great actor, and the source material was interesting, and I was curious to see what they'd do with it - especially once it became clear they were going the "inspired by" route rather than an adaptation of the Billy Milligan book.

That being said, I think episode 9 is when we start seeing the plot really get going, and, as a result, see just how poorly constructed it is. Episode 9 laid bare all the flaws and issues I could ignore in previous episodes. I'm going to watch the last episode because I've invested all this time already, but I liked this show a lot more before I watched this episode.

Here's a brief bullet-pointed list of some of my issues with it:

i hate this courtroom drama angle. a) that's not how trial works and b) why the fuck are we having a trial in the first place. Is he not pleading guilty? The trial just makes it clear how convoluted and contrived the case is - a shooting that injured but did not kill - and I know we were given the heads up that the defense lawyer isn't a good trial lawyer 2 episodes ago or something, but god, I could've represented Danny better. And the prosecutor gave a great performance except I cannot imagine a judge allowing half the shit he did. Also, again, the defense lawyer? Didn't cross-examine Marlin? wtf

the racial and sexual politics of this show are all the fuck over the place, and I could sort of let it slide but nope, now I've gotta call it out. 1) the prosecutor has been so clearly and completely painted as The Bad Guy so she's an easy target for abuse from viewers because she's being mean to our protagonist, and the fact that she (and the judge, who I assume will give Danny a harsh sentence next week - because the jury decides the verdict but the judge decides the sentence) is black and Danny is white? Feels some kind of way. 2) Angelo on the stand? This is a drug dealer, why would he show up? Further on Angelo - in like a 10 second scene last week we saw that Jonny-Danny had apparently a sexual relationship with him which makes the trying to get a gun scene hit so different. There's so much to unpack here. And yet. 3) Jerome. So, like most of the actors on this show, he's given a great performance. He and Tom have had some great scenes. But a) the amount of emotional labor this black character has done for the white character he barely knows is vaguely upsetting, b) when we're first introduced to Jerome via Ariana it doesn't come across as Great Love (sure we can debate this but I digress) but as soon as he seeks out Danny in prison and on the stand we get that narrative of practically Soulmates, c) this show purports to take place in the 70s - not a great time to be gay! To say nothing of the extra layer of race. Stonewall was 1969, dudes. On the one hand, super glad we're not having to listen to slurs. On the other, how is seemingly everyone barely blinking at Danny having a female alter or at the very least, if they don't accept the idea of alters, cross-dressing and fucking dudes? The prosecutor tries to prove that Jerome and Danny/Ariana weren't a couple because they never interactied outside the club - I'm sorry, it's the 1970s. Again, there is so much to unpack here re: Jerome as both a black man and a gay man and! We are getting! Nothing!

I liked Rya well enough but this episode she really grated on me? Her monologues felt preachy and patronizing.

Candy. So, one of the things I've come back to over and over is - we know Marlin abused Danny, and now we're to believe that Candy, on some level, knew. We also know that she married Marlin and theoretically stayed with him for financial reasons. Financial abuse is real, I'm not discounting that. But aside from being a dick, we don't really see Candy and Marlin's relationship as terribly abusive. She's so deferential to him, and yet we never see why, what has her so scared of him. She has a job! Her child is out of the house! Her characterization has been nearly nonexistent and it's frustrating.

So after struggling with undiagnosed MPD/DID for his entire life, we're supposed to accept that Danny, who was given a diagnosis like three days ago, is suddenly able to control his alters? With no issue? The scene 2? 3? Episodes ago where he tells Rya there are voices and he needs help is completely undermined by how much of a nonissue his alters have been in the interim.

All press tour Tom has been saying this show is about asking for help, and Danny asked for help in that scene - which was a great scene, I felt so seen there - and then in episode 9 we get Rya saying how brave or whatever Danny is for asking for help. BUT! He didn't! He committed a crime and was sent to jail and ended up in these therapy/interrogation sessions and then eventually yes, asked for help. But he was not out there crying for help, asking to be saved. He had his alters! He was unaware that he wasn't okay!

It's so clear that this show doesn't know what it wants to be and doesn't know what its focus is. Is it Danny? Is it Rya? The first 4 episodes are their own fucking show, and 6-9 are their own show. 5 feels like its own thing, too.

Additionally, this show is set in the 1970s. Why? Because Billy Milligan. Except they took the teeth out of that story, completely sanitized it to the point that there are virtually no stakes, but kept the set dressing. But that's literally all it is at this point. We get b-roll of 70s London, we have the costumes and cars, but aside from one shot of defense lawyer in army fatigues, we have no real sense of where we are in time. That is the only allusion to Vietnam. The prosecutor talked about incarceration like she's also read The New Jim Crow. Not a slur to be heard despite the fact that we are allegedly between Stonewall and AIDS. Rya talks about mental health like someone might in the present day. If they were already going to not make this about Billy Milligan, why the fuck did they keep it set in the 70s?

It is so frustrating because the actors are giving it their all. Tom? No notes. I was moved this episode, I've been moved all season. But I cannot get away from how poorly constructed this all is. This could've been so good. We should've spent more time digging into each alter. (What the fuck purpose did Mike serve? Ariana is the one "who can have sex" yet we also see Jonny engaging in sex?) What about the other dead alters in the barn? What about Adam. It has been hinted at all season that Marlin was not the first - the existence of Adam before Marlin would indicate that Danny had already experienced something that caused his psyche to split. we know nothing about dad. we still know nothing about Adam!!!!!!! Are we ever getting that resolution? Then what was the goddamn point? Why is there even a trial. Why have him commit a crime that's so toothless and that he's so obviously guilty of? Why structure this around a crime in the first place? Emmy Rossum has been severely underutilized, fuck, even Amanda Seyfried. Cannot believe they got Jason Isaacs to be in like. 17 minutes of this show. And once again, Tom Holland can have no lines and still be the most interesting character on screen. Can he go back to theatre, I'd love to see what he can do with a good script if this is what he can accomplish with a bad one.

I'm tired. This show had such potential, and it's tripping at the finish line. After taking four episodes to get started. Acting is great, cinematography has been good, but story? Writing? It's disappointing. I'm frustrated.

brazilian fans are dissapiunted because Ana's family was begging for donations and taking out a bank loan to bury their daughter. Swifties came together to help them cover the costs which was nice but T4F and Taylor are multimillion dollar companies that could have reached out to help.

The family said they were looking for an investigation into the venue but were aware the artist and her team were trying to help fans by giving them water, so they're not even trying to blame Taylor.

So fans are upset that for fans in the us Taylor can do swiftmas, send wedding presents, pay thousands in student loans, etc but a brazilian swiftie dies and Taylor doesn't even reach out to the family. Something that artists like Ariana have done in the past when fans die in their shows.

There's also the issue that Taylor only acknowledged the death of Ana in a story that is no longer on her page, said story doesn't say Ana's name, says that she died before Taylor's set started (which isn't true she died during Cruel Summer), and ends with Taylor saying that they didn't expect this to happen when she decided to tour Brazil (and as brazilian fans have been enduring a ton of xenophobia from even before the shows started the sentence rubbed them the wrong way). This, combined with the fact that she said won't talk about it on stage, made fans think she's trying to downplay it or ignore it, with the latest Travis Kelce article they're extra upset.

I don't think it's fair to say they're just trying to hate on Taylor. Most of the Brazilian swifties I've seen say something about this are big fans of her, they're just hurt by her silence and lack of support for the family. They're also frustrated that some swifties keep telling them it would be too hard/impossible for Taylor (the literal billionaire) to reach out and help them. They're not even asking for her to help the other fans cover their medical bills a swiftie has literal second degree burns on her leg now.

I really don't think they're using Ana as a game. I live here in latam, not brazilian, but every discussion about Ana's death I've had with a swiftie or even concert goer has been about the pain we feel at her loss, even if we didn't know her. There's just a big sense of community that we have, and her death really hit us. Ana's death is big deal here I can't imagine how Brazilian swifties must feel.

I have nothing but compassion for Brazilian Swifties right now, even if I don't agree with everything they're saying/doing. Sorry for the long ass ask, have a nice day Sarah <3

i completely get the frustration and can understand being disappointed that taylor seems to not be acknowledging it, but i think we need to have a little more compassion here. like i said theres no right way to handle this, its not a normal situation. it literally just happen a few days ago and grief is a very difficult thing that takes on so many forms. the people of brazil have every right to be disappointed shes not seemingly doing a lot, but also shes probably dealing with the pressing issue of making sure it doesnt happen again, fight the venue to reschedule and getting water and other services available for people. of course she could be doing more but so much happened in the last 48 hours (a lot of which is probably behind the scenes stuff we dont even know about). i dont wanna make excuses for her and again i agree that the people have a right to be disappointed, i just think pointing the finger at someone who is also dealing with a lot and grieving from this isnt the best option.

"You..." He tries to conjure a comeback with his every whim. And he's successful, the words travel from his brain to the tip of his now drying tongue. It's something alongside lung cancer and mummification, but before he can begin to voice it, you cut in.

"That's...embarrassing."

His chest deflates in the worst kind of way— physically. He hears you giggle as his glasses hit the floor. In any other scenario, he'd like to hear your voice but not in this way.

"I'm not scared of cats." He refutes. His tone’s shaky—he prays that you don't notice—and he puffs out his chest as if... it would make his situation any better. He retrieves his glasses from the ground with as much dignity as he can muster.

"Really?" He watches you with labored breathing and hopes with undecipherable chants, that you believe his lie.

But even though Gojo’s abilities bled into the title of probably being the strongest shaman in the world, the world was not—in any way—good to him.

"Bring your cats in next week, you'll see then." Geto relays with his usual timbre tone, which laid in an unbothered manner —almost as if he wasn't practically ruining Gojo's life. But with annoyance came confusion, how did Geto know you had cats and he didn't?

"Ahh," you hum and Gojo wishes he could disappear. He probably could if he wanted to but it'd be too obvious. 

As he studies your features –he always found you pretty in the weirdest moments– his knee bounces with the urge to run to Yaga and plead for him to forbid animals from entering school grounds. However, with the kind of person his teacher was, he’d probably welcome your cats with open arms. 

So, with as much nonchalance his body can provide, he shrugs. "Fine, whatever."

It's not fine. Gojo's heart seizes in his throat as your cat—Marie was it? slinks its orange–furred body around his leg.

The other one—Cheeba, who's noticeably uglier than Marie throws him a glare and terribly high hisses behind your leg.

And the harsh beating of the sun does nothing to soothe his nerves. Refutably, it makes the collar of his uniform cling to the numerous beads of sweat that decide to race down his neck. Though, he’s not sure if it’s the presence of the things you call pets or the heat. 

He sends a glare back to your beady-eyed animal but it dissolves once he sees your accusatory stare.

"W-what she's obviously showing aggression firs–"

"Gojo you don't have to lie, you know?"

With pursed lips, Gojo turns away. By dumb luck, Geto’s in the far distance with a lax stance. Gojo squints with venom when he sees his supposed best friend’s lips pulled into a smirk. With a snap of his fingers and a foretelling nod, he silently promises Geto a hefty amount of payback. When he thinks Geto gets his message, he turns back to you. 

Gojo knows you’re not some kind of love magician but with the way his worries disappear alongside the dew of rain saddled into the grass below him when he so much glances at your face, it's objectively too alarming to be deemed as normal. 

"Huh? Lie about what?" He silently curses when his heart decides–without his permission–to speed up at an abnormal pace when you let out an airy chuckle. He almost misses the sound, it always seems to mask itself within the transverse of flowing wind but he's trained his very being to recognize it, at all times.

"You don't like cats, do you?"

"I—"

"It's kinda cute...in a way."

"Yes, yes I hate cats. Despise them. With every fiber of my being."

With cheeks that dust pink, he watches you laugh heartily while you crouch down to pet Marie and Cheeba. A wave of embarrassment passes through him but he ignores it to revel in the wide smile that pulls at your cheeks. 

“I knew you’d say something like that.” He nods, not fully listening to your words. It’s not by choice, his ears are simply just filled with white noise because Gojo’s come to a decision. 

He’d solely hate..(fear) cats for the rest of his life if it meant you’d continue believing that it made him cute. 

He doesn’t necessarily think that he’s cute, more so, handsomely attractive. But he’ll take it. Even if he did twist your words... a little bit.

So the graphics I vision for this song are sorta based around Book 3 Sukka. I headcanon that Sokka would look up to Yue for reassurance when feeling lost, such as when Suki was imprisoned and he had no idea where she was. Also, post-Book 3 when they are in their long distance relationship, I know they would miss each other like crazy. Something I see comforting them is the fact that they see the same moon.

White Horse ~ Taylor Swift

Now we all know Suki is our resident independent- badass- queen who doesn't need anyone to look out for her, especially a man. I thought that this song was a good parallel to when she was fed up with Sokka's sexist bs in "The Warriors of Kyoshi". Like I can imagine her having to hear this from so many people around her growing up, and to hear it from someone she showed interest in must be disappointing. Not a super happy rec, but a necessary one nonetheless.

So oddly enough, I actually find enjoyment in 'High School Musical: The Musical: The Series'. But in the scene, the main couple sang this to each other when they couldn't be together for Valentine's day, and when I first heard it, my head immediately went to Sokka and Suki. Seeing that they had a long distance relationship for a decent amount of time and have many individual responsibilities, they are bound to miss some holidays and events. But even through that, they know they are the most important parts of each others lives.

Like I'm Gonna Lose You ~ Meghan Trainor & John Legend

I really love this song for them because after losing Yue, Sokka came to appreciate time, and didn't want to waste a moment with Suki. He realized that death can be sudden and real, which was why he was so protective of Suki during 'The Serpent's Pass'.

I thought this song fit really well, and this lyric in particular reminds me of the failed escape attempt in 'The Boiling Rock Pt. 1'. Suki was willing to give up the concept of freedom if it meant staying to wait for Hakoda with Sokka.

So I really love this song and feel that it could be used for literally any atla ship or even atla as a whole, due to the theme and aesthetic (might mess around and make an edit😏). One of my favorite things about Sukka is how supportive they are of each other, and how easily they make each other happy. They've seen each other at low points, they've been on death row, but through that they were still there cheering each other on.

Lucky ~ Jason Mraz & Colbie Caillat

I think this pretty much sums up their time together during 'The Serpent's Pass'. They were apart for so long-and with the war, had no reason to really believe they'd see each other again. But then by chance they were brought together again, revealed their feelings, only to have to split up again. But through that, they didn't let the distance bother them, as they stayed committed to each other.

A Chromatica Review

So I never really use Tumblr, but when I do go on here, it’s pretty much to review something long-form. As you can tell from my profile picture here, and from my glowing review of ARTPOP from 7 years ago, I am and have always been a Gaga stan. Just read the melodramatic first paragraph of my ARTPOP review and you’ll get the gist of how much I idolize this woman. Well, idolized. Past tense.

That’s not to say I suddenly hate Gaga–I’m still going to follow her career and listen to whatever she puts out. There have just been several factors this past year that have changed my perspective on how I view her, this album being one of those factors. But I’ll get to those later. First I just need to lay out all my issues with this album.

Yes, this is going to be that type of review, so if you’re a fellow Gaga stan that isn’t able to criticize her work, this probably isn’t for you. Otherwise please read to the end if you can, because this is honestly about more than just the album.

Issue #1: The Mismatch Between Music & Aesthetic

When the cover of the album came out, I was so gagged. Like, just look at it! It’s striking, and Gaga has rarely ever disappointed me when it came to visuals. Actually, I can’t even think of any visual choices she made in previous eras that disappointed me. Even in the Joanne era, the pink cowboy hat became iconic and all of her aesthetic choices fit with the overall vibe of that album cycle.

So naturally, when she revealed to us the new visual direction she was taking for Chromatica, I assumed it would give us some insight into how the music would sound. The aesthetic of this era always gave me grungy cyberpunk and heavy machinery tease. When I look at the album cover for example, I can hear a song produced by SOPHIE in my head, the clink-clank queen herself. (There were rumors that Gaga was going to or did work with SOPHIE but that was never confirmed, unfortunately for us.)

For those unfamiliar with SOPHIE, here’s Ponyboy, which was most recently used in the ad campaign for Beyoncé’s Ivy Park clothing line.

That was the kind of production I was more or less expecting when taking the visuals into account; dark, metallic, basically similar to ARTPOP’s production (to be honest ARTPOP sonically fits better with the Chromatica aesthetic; think about it). 

But what did we get? Light, garden variety dance pop, a stark contrast to what the album cover and the promo images teased us with.

In the album, we get these orchestral interludes that are beautiful but don't really mesh that well with the actual tracks. The songs don't have any orchestral elements by themselves, so the interludes felt a bit misplaced to me. I wish they'd incorporated more of that into the individual songs, so that there could be an orchestral through-line to give more cohesion, like what Ariana did in her album positions by using strings. However I will say, the transition from Chromatica II into 911 remains unmatched.

I get that the album is supposed to sound happy, that it was her returning to her “dance pop roots” and singing about serious topics like mental health over happy-sounding beats, because it’s supposed to reflect her current mental state. I get all that. But if that was the case, I think she should’ve gone with a different visual direction to match. Personally I wish she went a different direction musically instead, but even if it was just the other way around and she changed the aesthetic of this era, my opinion of the album would probably improve slightly, cause at least there would be cohesion between the visuals and the sonics.

I look at that album cover, and promo images like the one below, and then I listen to songs like Fun Tonight or Plastic Doll for example, and there’s a noticeable dissonance there. 

You might be thinking “why are you so hard on her for this?” and I guess it’s because I’ve always held Gaga to a high standard when it comes to how she links those two elements. Think of every era she’s had in the past, and you remember how the visuals always just worked with their respective albums.

And that’s before I’ve even talked about the videos. Oh lord, the videos.

Issue #2: The Videos Are Lackluster (Except For 911)

It started with Stupid Love, the lead single. I had mixed feelings about that song in the beginning, but because I was so thirsty for new music from Gaga at the time, I played that song like hell when it leaked and it was on rotation for a good while. But when Gaga premiered the Stupid Love video, I’m not going to lie; I really didn’t like it.

The whole “shot entirely on iPhone” schtick really did the video a disservice. I’m sorry but it had to be said. If I imagined the video with a higher budget and more of a plotline as opposed to just being a dance video, I think it could’ve worked a lot better and been a decent introduction to not only Chromatica the album, but this fictional world/planet that she’s created. Which by the way, she didn’t really deliver in that regard either. 

The concept of Chromatica being a fictional world could have been expanded on further; she could’ve showcased all of the different factions (I know they were called “tribes” at first but that’s appropriative so I’ll call them factions) and perhaps had an overarching storyline about how these factions are at war, and it’s Gaga’s job as one of the “Kindness Punks”, as she calls it, to bring everyone together for a rave.

This is why I will always say it: Chromatica needed to be a visual album. Just imagine the storyline I mentioned just now being turned into a full-length feature, and now imagine the album’s orchestral intro playing as they’re essentially opening the gates to Chromatica and Gaga discovers this world for the first time, and then it goes into the first song Alice where she’s meeting all the factions and getting acclimated to her surroundings.

Honestly I could go on and on cause I have thought about this for SO LONG now and I’ll never shut up about it. It’s just such a missed opportunity cause the concept was just begging for a visual album. Anyway sorry for my tangent: back to the Stupid Love video.

The whole “shot on iPhone” gimmick really was unfortunate. Like she really ruined the quality of a music video because she wanted that Apple check??? Come on, Gaga, there could’ve been some other way to secure that check.

And then there was the Rain On Me video, which definitely have visuals that are a massive improvement from Stupid Love because it was professionally shot and cinematic. But even that was another purely dance video with not much in the way of storyline. Not that storyline is always required for music videos, but I think specifically when it comes to Chromatica, not having storylines in the M/Vs does a disservice to the overall concept.

I guess my issue with these two music videos, but mostly Stupid Love, is that Gaga isn't fully utilizing her COIN. Like she's successful enough to the point where she has budgets for these videos and can go all out, but doesn't. She has the capacity for extremely high production value, but up until 911, the last video she did that had that level of extraness was G.U.Y. I miss the days when her music videos were an event. I still remember where I was and what I was doing the exact moment the Telephone video came out. That's impact.

Taylor Swift I think is somebody who really knows how to blow her budget on a video. Look What You Made Me Do may have been a terrible song, but I always thought the video was sickening.

Anyway, I have no notes on 911. She's a masterpiece. If there was a music video category at the Oscars, I'd be campaigning for it right now.

Issue #3: Any Other Girly Can Do This

The thing I always loved the most about Gaga's music was that nobody was doing it like her. Everything she put out always felt like it was distinctly hers and hers alone, it's unmistakable. Even in Joanne, despite that album being a major departure from what she normally did.

I know Joanne is a very polarizing album, even for Little Monsters, but personally I've always loved it. Joanne was an album that I always knew she would make and I thought was essential to her career and body of work. Despite her straying away from pop for a more earthy, grass roots sound, it still sounded very much like her music. Even from the first track, Diamond Heart, her DNA is all over that.

It's difficult to explain what exactly I mean when I say there's a certain signature "Gaga-ness" or that she has a very specific DNA injected into her songs. If you've been a fan of hers for a long time or followed her career, you probably understand what I'm referring to. It's the way she laughs maniacally in the beginning of ARTPOP on Aura, how she says "I don't speak German but I can if you like, OW!" and proceeds to recite broken German on Scheiße, how she invented the phrase "disco stick", literally the ENTIRETY of The Fame Monster.

These examples probably give you the gist of what I'm trying to convey. Gaga is fucking weird. She has always been fucking weird and I love that so much about her. And her brand of weirdness was so specific that if any of the other pop girls tried to do what she did, it would have been cringey as hell. To me, the most disappointing thing of all with this album was that this weirdness that was so uniquely hers was missing.

It's there in brief moments, in tracks like Sour Candy, 911 and Babylon, but most of the album doesn't really sound like her music. It sounds like songs that she wrote for other people, like her old unreleased stuff. OG Little Monsters probably remember songs like Second Time Around and No Way. These were leaked unreleased songs that Gaga had written for other artists, and even though they were absolute bops, they didn't sound like her. They weren't supposed to.

A similar feeling I had was when her song The Cure came out a few years ago. I genuinely thought that was something she wrote for someone else, cause even though it was a solid pop song, it absolutely had zero Gaga-ness and any current pop girl could sing it. This pretty much encapsulates how I feel about the majority of Chromatica.

I was gonna say it sounded like songs that were written for Ally, her Star is Born character, but I think even those pop songs from the soundtrack sounded more Gaga than Chromatica does. 💀 I can easily imagine Hair Body Face being on The Fame.

Final Thoughts

It's funny that the last review I had posted on here before this was my review of Kingdom Hearts III. The Kingdom Hearts game series is something that's very near and dear to my heart, and I waited a wholeass decade for the third game to come out. And then it did, and I was so disappointed.

So you know what happened after that? What helped me deal with my disappointment of that game was my anticipation for Chromatica, or at the time it was still called LG6. I had no idea I would feel the same exact way about this album the way I do about KH3. Now when I think of both of these things, I'm mostly frustrated by all of the potential and the missed opportunities, but I also look at them with a certain fondness. I had fun playing KH3, and I also had fun listening to Chromatica, despite both of them disappointing me overall.

In the beginning of this review I said that there were certain factors that have stopped me from idealizing Gaga too much. Firstly it's because I'm much older now, and secondly it's due to the sheer state of the world this past year. The pandemic really precipitated the fall of celebrity culture, and all of that made me really examine how putting someone on such a high pedestal can be damaging in the long run.

Gaga is a human being and I haven't agreed with everything she's done, particularly how she handled the whole R. Kelly situation back in 2013. And also the simple fact that she's a white woman, we know how a lot of the time they can't help but show their asses and are bound to disappoint us in some way. I'm forever grateful for her artistry and how she saved my life when I was a suicidal little eighth grader, but I'm also going to hold her accountable for any of her mistakes, and I'd be ready to stop supporting her entirely if anything she does ever goes too far.

Now I stan artists for fun. It's not healthy to idolize them to the point of revering them. I mean, I like to make jokes like that about Beyoncé, like "no way on Beyoncé's green earth", etc. But even she is just a person that we shouldn't deify for real.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that Chromatica being a lackluster album and era ended up being a good thing, because it helped me grow out of idolizing celebrities too intensely. Chromatica was pretty much the best disappointment I've ever listened to.

Mystic Sisters- Ch.1 Who’s watching us?

Yua’s POV

“Yua mom said breakfast is ready. Hurry up!” My younger sister yelled from the other side of my bedroom door. I groaned sitting up and sliding on my slippers. I rubbed my eyes trying to wake myself up. Why was that dream so weird? I thought to myself. The only thing I could remember was running away and a voice telling me to  keep running. “Why do I feel like I know that voice?” 

“ I'm tired, go away” I said to my sister as I finally opened the door. “ Can’t I sleep in peace?”

“Mom called you 30 minutes ago and you never came down. We're gonna be late……. again because of you.” I rolled my eyes at her. “I’ll be down in a minute.”

“I see you finally joined us.” Dad laughed while eating his breakfast.”Well yeah thanks to Hikari.” I replied, taking my seat at the table. 

“Have a good day. I’ll be back late so your dad is making dinner tonight.” Mom explained putting our bento boxes in our backpacks. Hikari looked at me with a disgusted look. “Do you think he’s gonna try to make us eat miso soup again? And the rice balls?” she whispered horrified.  

“Um we’ll cook tonight instead.” I chimed in thinking about the last time dad tried to cook for us. He somehow left the soup and rice on too long and it got stuck to the bottom of the pot. We had to get a new rice cooker because he burnt the rice. We ended up with take-out that night. 

I had that dream replaying in my head over and over. I know it probably didn't mean anything but I couldn’t stop thinking about it. 

“Oneesan, are you okay? You were quiet the whole way here. I asked you what we were making for dinner but you didn't say anything.” Hikari asked worriedly when we arrived at our school Meguro Academy. I looked at her smiling. “No, I'm fine. I’ll see you after class.”  I hugged her and quickly walked to  class. I know she didn’t buy it. For some reason we’ve always been able to feel each other's emotions. Any time either of us were upset the other one knew. 

I walked into class 4-a and sat at my desk pulling out my homework from last night. It was just a dream. I told myself again. There’s no need for me to get worked up over nothing. I sat in class lost in my thoughts  when I felt my phone buzz in my uniform pocket.

I tried to get through my next classes without falling asleep. I sighed in relief as the bell for lunch finally rang. I ran my hands through my red hair. Mid- terms were coming up so we’ve been doing more work than normal.

When I get to the fountain Hikari is already there. 

“I told you I was fine.”  I reassured her by noticing the expression on her face. Hikari and I weren’t much different looks wise. People always confused us for the other one. Hikari was a year younger than me and had a more playful look. While I had a more serious “mature” look as our mom would say. The main difference in our looks were our eyes and beauty marks. I had green eyes while my sister had grey eyes. I had a mole on my lip on the left and Hikari had a dimple on her right cheek. I listened to my sister ramble about her math test she just took. I laughed watching her complain about how much she hates the subject until I felt eyes on me. It felt familiar. I looked up and locked eyes with the eyes that I once loved but now hated. In front of me was the person I fell in love with. The reason I can’t fall in love again. Haru. The memories of him came rushing back. 

Everything was going fine that day until he left me. Haru had been distant so we agreed to go on a date. We started the day at Mystic cafe and ended the night at the local festival. The whole day Haru looked sad. He reassured me that he was okay but I knew something was up. We dated for two and a half years and I knew when it was lying. That night was the first time he told me he loved me. When he dropped me off at the front door he told me he didn’t want to be with me. “Haru what do you mean? You just told me you loved me.” 

“Im sorry Yua. I can’t be with you anymore.”

“I love you Haru. Whatever it is we can fix it.” I cried. 

“I'm sorry.” He said once again before walking away leaving me there to cry on my front porch confused and upset. I could see his dimly lit figure fade away into the darkness. 

That was 7 months ago. After that night he stopped showing up to school. Haru stopped answering my calls and texts messages. When I went to his house to see him no one would be home. 

“Haru..” I whispered not loud enough for him to hear me. He smiled before walking away.

“Did you see that? The nerve of him to smile at me after he hurt me the way he did.” I rant to Hikari. 

“Don’t be so hot-headed.” Hikari mumbled, stuffing her face with her rice balls making a mess as per usual.

“Well he shouldn't be so shameless you know. And stop stuffing your face.”I said huffing and wiping her face with my sleeve.  Every time I saw him all the memories we shared the good and the bad come rushing back. Then the pain follows. The pain of him breaking my heart. He’s the reason why I can’t ever fall in love again. 

“Yua-chan we still need tofu and daikon for the kimchi jjigae.” Hikari chirped in front of me grabbing a few boxes of almond flavored Pocky off the shelf and tossing them into the basket. She cheerfully walked down the aisle adding stuff in the basket that we didn’t need. “ I hope you have money for that.” I warned as Hikari added ramen into the basket. 

“I don’t because you're paying.” she smiled before turning down the next aisle. I rolled my eyes , pushing the basket following behind her. 

“I can’t believe you made me spend $20 on Pocky and ramen.” I muttered looking down at the receipt. 

“You love me though.” Hikari cheered, opening the Pocky offering me one. I shook my head no and Hikari shrugged while reaching for the bags. 

“I do, so you're lucky.” I laugh out.

I had forgotten about the dream while being with Hikari. Things were always easier when we were together. Mom always said that we’ve been joint at the hip. I was listening to my sister ramble on about the manga she was reading while we walked to the train to go home. Something didn't feel right. 

“And the next book comes out friday. I already pre-ordered it.” Hikari rambled on. I stopped in my tracks glancing at  my sister. She stopped walking and looked back at me with the same concerned look she had been wearing all day. “Why’d you stop?”

“I feel like we're being watched.”

So we're supposed to just get him the money okay then what then see what the money does when I have it because they're all afraid to get me money he says we see this too we can't get a money or else. Oh really they're trying to break through the blockade there's tons of them and they're morrlock at the blockade of the USA. So far they haven't broken through the max are reinforcing it and it was reformed last night after the forg. got through. It's going to get worse he says because they got through and then it closed Max says that's true and it's going to but right now the more I could try to get in and everyone's hitting them here and it's a blockade that senses you're not going to stop them when you're encouraging them so much so they have on a life I think it works on foreigners another such people but not on them you just keep calling them to duty we agree with that too we need them office so damn annoying the slaughtering them. There's a huge crowd every few minutes that goes out to Ultraman and Ultra woman fortresses. A huge crowd it's so big I don't even want to mention it but I'll say it's probably 2 or 300 septillion and continuous waves at each location each hour is probably about 10 octillion and there's 20 of them now they were 10 they're very successful basis pretty soon there won't be any more more luck between the blockades the bases in our bases they go to the castles too but not but not in those numbers says it will if you raid with Galactus Galactica can you get it out there you need their stuff for real. So I made a list and I kept them keep a master list and can add to it it is a science something I need to be more organized and you said you put like bating weapon systems or whatever on a board. So up it goes on the side and I leave it there those are systems we can use to draw.

Then have offensive weaponry on the other side and defensive systems. So I made this matrix and it works. Each morning I can look at it and order things to happen based on what's going on and it's terrific major events are happening now it's going to heat things up more

I don’t want to run the risk of messaging you and getting the responses that breaks my heart into little pieces. So I’m gonna write everything I want to say to you here, there’s a chance you still are following me and will see this but if you don’t see this at least I’ve put my feelings out there and not sent them to you, directly.

First of all, the person you’ve become over the past few weeks, Who is he? I don’t know him and I most defiantly am not in love with him. This isn’t the man I know and fell in love with. I have to ask myself is it really worth hurting over someone who found it so easy to throw me away and to turn off the guy I love so quickly. But what holds me back is the man I knew, the man I fell in love with. I still hope that he’s still there, under the surface. You could be real with me, I’ve always told you to be honest with me, that you are accepted by me and your feelings, safety and well being are important to me. I wish you would be real with me because right now you aren’t being real with anyone, taking people who hurt you back into your life and for what? You knew that that specific person would hurt me most. You knew that, and you’ll tell me that this isn’t about me. That this is you talking to her because you always wanted to. Then I’d have to question wether you wanted her all along. When I saw that you called her beautiful it broke my heart, because it wasn’t me that you were saying those words to. Instead, you chose to make me feel worthless and if I’m being completely honest I’ve never been so disrespected and hurt by a man, like I have been by you. But I still see the good in you, the man who would do anything to make the people he loves happy, the man who loved me and supported through all the good times and the bad, the man who helped me through media, the one who made me happy. We had so many good memories together, I kind of crave talking about them with you but I know you won’t want to think about it. You hate talking about us, about our break up. But then again you’re the one who left. You just need to accept that you’ll think of me from time to time, there will be things that will make you think of me.. When our friends mention me, you’ll have to accept that I still do exist even though you treat me like I’ve hurt you, like I’m a stranger. But the thing is, I’m not a stranger. You know my deepest darkest secrets and thoughts, you know what it feels like to hold me, you know my dreams, goals, fears and what hurts me most. You know the little things that I hate but you love about me, you know when I’m lying, you know when I’m sad and you know ME. You know the real me, the part of me I give to nobody else but you. You know how to love me.. you know me. And I know you, I know what it feels to hold you, I know what it feels to take your pain away, I know when something is bothering you, I know your secrets, your thoughts, goals, fears and dreams. I know the real you is still there somewhere beneath the surface. We aren’t strangers, I don’t know if your love for me has faded since she came back into your life, but my love for you is still there, burning deep in my heart. I’m reminded of you everywhere I go, every song is a melody of I what I want to say or how you’ve made me feel.
