Young 38 year old from Italy was suffering from severe right arm pain from last 3 months, with poor grip right side, unable to hold things 😢 MRI Cervical spine showing large C6C7 PIVD (Disc Prolapse), we planned for C6C7 ACDF, post op pain immediately 😀, grip became better. Sometime if things delayed this can cause permanent weakness 😩😫 , leading to disability. Early is better, late is disaster.

THORACIC OUTLET SYNDROME (TOS) TOS are a group of syndromes involving pressure on the brachial plexus. Each syndrome is named according the structure that is causing the compression. 1️⃣ ANTERIOR SCALENE SYNDROME: The fibres of the brachial plexus must pass through a narrow aperture between scalenes anterior and medius. Any increased tone in one of these muscles (usually anterior), will provide enough compression to produce symptoms. Scarring and adhesions from injuries can be causes of compression, particularly if found at the attachments of the scalenes. Dysfunction or misalignent of the cervical/thoracic spine may also be a contributing factor to this syndrome. 2️⃣ COSTOCLAVICULAR SYNDROME: Symptoms result in this case when the neurovascular bundle is tractioned between the clavicle and the first rib. This is often bilateral, indicating a symmetrical postural cause. 3️⃣ PECTORALIS MINOR SYNDROME: In this case, the compression occurs where the neurovascular bundle passes between the tendon of pectoralis minor and the coracoid process of the scapula. Tractioning is greatest with the arm in abduction, but even with the arm dependent, enough pressure from postural problems or tight pectoralis muscles can cause symptoms. TOS can also compress the subclavian/axillary artery and/or vein. CAUSES: Crutch use, joint subluxation, adhesions and scarring, muscular hypertonicity from postural dysfunction, trigger points, occupational stresses, emotion stresses, all of which lead to shallow breathing and poor sleeping posture. SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS: All thoracic outlet syndromes feature paraesthesia in the arm, forearm, hand, and fingers. Symptoms are usually unilateral, but can be bilateral, particularly if postural dysfunction is a main cause. Anterior scalene syndrome is also noted for edema in the hands and fingers. The cadaver videos demonstrate nicely the brachial plexus of nerves with relationship to TOS. TOS can cause compression of any of these nerves. #Physiotherapy #Osteopathy #Fisioterapia #Osteopatia #Therapy #PhysicalTherapy #Pilates #Yoga #TOS #Fascia #Nerve #CrossFit #ThoracicOutletSyndrome #NerveEntrapment #ShoulderPain #ArmPain #NervePain #HandPain https://www.instagram.com/p/Cb-S5E2gctG/?utm_medium=tumblr

I’ve been unraveling some arm pain the last few weeks, which seems to originate at a sternal rib head, beneath the pec, through the front of the shoulder, down the biceps and all the way into the radial head and into the thumb. Various aches manifest with different movement, many of which are small mechanical actions that aren’t heavily loaded. Doing a pull-up doesn’t feel uncomfortable, (nor does my strength feel compromised) but I feel a re-bound affect afterwards. I can wake up from a night of hand-stands or dancing to find my right arm feels like it’s curling up into a rictus. Opening doors, and gripping bottles and other strangely shaped items can be weirdly painful.
This isn’t quite lateral or medial epicondylitis (golfer’s/tennis elbow), both of which I’ve rehabbed, but something more involved in the entire front chain of the arm. Tight forearms definitely don’t help, as they’re pulling super hard and restricting activation of the extensors. But I also have the sensation that there’s a spiral pattern to the tension, as well as contributing issues in the thoracic rib heads, either with excessive rhomboid tension or a lack of good thoracic extension. While my bodyworker and I have been talking about lower lat & mid-trap activation as well as serratus anterior as possible muscles that need more focus, I’ve been experimenting with releasing the tissue along the biceps, forearm and front delt.
According Anatomy Trains, although the arms are not essential for posture, they do have a postural function, "strain from the elbow affects the mid-back, and shoulder malposition can create significant drag on the ribs, neck, breathing function and beyond.”
This is an interesting proposition—that the dysfunction may begin distally and eventually manifest in the trunk. Usually I begin from the center and extend out when trouble-shooting an issue, but considering all of the gripping, climbing, squeezing and grabbing I do, there’s no shortage of tension at the elbow attachments.
.
As you get to the last photo of the collection, note the unconventional view of the shoulder. When you realize how many muscles of the trunk connect at the shoulder joint, it’s easier to believe why poor posture would affect arm function and why poor arm usage would impact posture.
Either way, stay tuned for an interesting array of exploratory movements and exercises that I’m experimenting with to see if I can sort this mess out.

Arm pain after fall
Falling is dangerous especially for our arms, but why? Because our brain instantly sends impulses to activate arms to reduce the fall damage, that way your falling onto your arms instead of falling on your chest and even face. That is why we have arm pain after fall. But if it already happened what can we do now?
Tumblr media
The arm pain after fall can be caused by many factors, like simple bruises and wounds, or even a broken bone, also dislocated joints are common. But the real question is what we can do about it? At first, you check your arm for any wounds or burns, because bruises will show up only after a few hours after fall. If you can’t find any of those and also the Arm is in pain for more than 2 days then an orthopedic visit can be unavoidable. The doctor will check your current health condition.
You should avoid putting stress on that arm during the process of healing, like lifting and holding things, try to use your second hand instead. Also, regular consultations will make you less stressed about that injury.
Dislocated arm
If your arm was dislocated then there is a high chance that it moved back in the right place after a few seconds from the incident, so it could damage the nearby muscles and that is the cause of most pain. The dislocated arm will need 2-6 weeks to heal, and in this time you will feel pain when you move your arm. Sometimes dislocated arm can also damage nerves, so it’s also important for you to visit a neurologist if you can still feel the pain after 6 weeks. You should use pain reliever ointments once a day until it’s fully healed.
Wounds and bruises
That is the less dangerous what could happen to you, so if your arm has some wounds and that is all that gives you pain then you should be safe, but it’s important to prevent infections, so check nearby drug stores for hydrogen dioxide or visit your own bathroom. If you’re good at handling pain then salt and alcohol will help you disinfect the wound, but that’s going to hurt a lot!
Broken arm
unfortunately, the fall could be the cause of a broken arm. It’s hard to check if that’s the cause of your pain, but if you touch the place where the bone is you will feel strong pain in that spot, also sometimes your bone can be even fully visible, but if you want to know more about broken arm and how long will it take to heal we have a full article about this topic so make sure to check it out! Most important in that case for you is to call an ambulance and medics will do the rest.
Accident during sports
It happened to me about a year ago during my weekly bouldering sessions. When I was climbing a difficult route, my left arm was lower than my chest holding tight to a wall, and then my legs slipped from the rock that I was standing on… unfortunately, I was so focused on holding that wall with my left arm that when I fall, my arm was still there holding it. The reset of my falling body pulled that arm with a strong force, and when I was on the ground my arm was dislocated from the shoulder, but it instantly get back into the right place.
The arm pain after fall was that huge that one of my friends called an ambulance, but they’ve said that has a low priority so I was left alone with my friend… The next day I’ve consulted my orthopedist, and we did some X-rays, but everything with bones was fine, even ultrasound tests didn’t show anything bad, but my arm still was in huge pain.
In the end, I’ve waited about 6 months until the pain was finally gone!
In summary – Arm pain after fall
Arm pain can be sometimes unbearable, in that case, use pain reliever ointments, and if that’s not enough call an orthopedist and neurologist, they both will have some ways to help you, also if they both won’t have any idea how to help you, try to consult with a physiotherapist, and do some rehabilitation. Arm pain is hard to deal with because we do a lot of things throughout our day with that arm, and it’s even worse when that is our right arm because most people are right-handed then simple daily tasks are going to be hard.
In my case, it was easier because I’ve injured my left arm, and I’m also right-handed. Avoid doing anything that can give you pain, like lifting things with that hand. If less your arm will be used the faster it will heal!

THORACIC OUTLET SYNDROME (TOS) [REHAB EXERCISES - SELF TREATMENT] On the picture you can see several rehab exercises which should be done as a daily training routine if you suffer from TOS. The videos show myofascial self treatment exercises you should perform as well. Video 1: Scalene Self-Treatment Relieving tension in the scalene muscles can be done using a @BLACKROLL® TWISTER. The @BLACKROLL® TWISTER is very useful as it does not only work with applying body weight to it but also allows the combination of pressure and twisting. The result: circulation rises, trigger bands and -points are stimulated and the fascial tissue becomes well hydrated. Make sure to find the right tension areas of the scalene muscles and apply good pressure into it. Then you can twist it and move your head while the TWISTER is pressed in. For the right scalene muscles you side band your cervical spine to the left side. 1-2 minutes per side is good for the beginning. For the muscles on the left you just perform it to the opposite. How to find the scalene muscles? Find the sternocleidomastoid muscle (SCM) first, it attaches to the sternum + clavicle and travels up to your mastoid process (right behind the ear). To localize the right SCM you turn your head to the left, look down and you can palpate the prominent muscle stomach of the SCM perfectly. The scalene muscles are located right behind the SCM, they originate from the transverse processes from the cervical vertebrae of C2 to C7 and insert onto the first and second ribs. Video 2/3: Pectoralis Minor Self-Treatment 1️⃣ Grab a @BLACKROLL® BALL 08 2️⃣ Find a wall you can lean on and be able to reach one arm in front of you. 3️⃣ Place the ball on the pec minor and lean into the ball on the wall. 4️⃣ In video 2 you reach your arm down at about a 45° angle and feel like you pick something off the ground, then drive your elbow up and back. 5️⃣ In video 3 you perform an internal and external rotation in the shoulder joint. #Physiotherapy #Osteopathy #Fisioterapia #Pilates #Osteopatia #Acupuncture #Therapy #Chiropractic #ThoracicOutletSyndrome #ArmPain #Numbness #Yoga #TOS #Rehab #Fascia #Backpain #NeckPain #HandPain #ShoulderPain https://www.instagram.com/p/CcXkPSHg86z/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

I got my first Covid-19 vaccination (Pfizer) two weeks ago and going for the second shot soon. As a consummate hypochondriac who has never had a flu shot or taken any medication for 11 years now, I don’t leave anything to chance. First, I exercised to get my body in supreme form but stopped a few days before the vaccine. This ensured the body was calm and not distracted rebuilding muscle tissue when the vaccine entered the body.  Alcohol and OTC pain medication dulls the immune response system. This can result in antibodies that are not as strong.  My fasting diet was halted and replaced with three full meals days prior to the vaccine including a nice breakfast a few hours before the vaccine. While fasting is good, when we begin to fast, the body initially breaks down a number of immune fighting white blood cells. I was building reserve fuel so my body had all the resources to build the best possible antibodies as soon the vaccine entered by body. The vaccine process was pretty simple. I was out of there in all of ten minutes. Wow. Did I tell you I hate needles? Of course, I took the opportunity to do some binge eating. I got myself a nice steak, a generous helping of vegetables, fries and bread. Got a large chocolate cake too. Yes, sugar is the fastest energy source. Admittedly it is a dirty fuel but, in this case, it gets the job done. It was only for a few days.  I really was tempted to pour myself a nice brandy to get the arm pain to go away. It would have gone down well with the steak. The next day the arm pain was a little worse. More irritating than painful. Again, I resisted the temptation to take some Ibuprofen or Advil. You see pain killers tell the body it’s not that serious. The higher the pain the better your body is triggered to mount a robust immune response and build antibodies that can machine gun any Covid-19 vermin that come its way in the wild. Get plenty of sleep. I took the opportunity to binge watch some movies and eat like a pig. It was rather fun. Anyway, that is the story of a hypochondriac getting a vaccine. But I am looking forward to another round of binge eating for the second shot. Apparently, you get the chills for 24 hours so the thermal blanket is ready. Besides I have my Cinnamon ginger tea which we know warms the body. So, all set.

Hard days suck...some days I feel like I can walk (hobble) 2 miles and others my arm doesn’t allow me to get the cereal down from the cabinet for my daughter without pain or dropping it. This video is from early January, I was definitely in the scared AF, pity mode that day. But I’m not ashamed of that. Also that angle shows me how I need to get in better shape 🤣. #msbaddays #armpain #notmydominanthand! https://www.instagram.com/p/CL9x_CvJCR4/?igshid=1gm4l1ggpdv0g

Poor posture can cause poor blood circulation in your body. It can also cause chronic pain in your neck, back or shoulders. Chronic fatigue has been linked to poor posture. It also limits your range of motion and if left untreated, bad posture can result in herniated discs and misalignment of the whole body. #badposture #thoracicspine #posturematters #armpain #neckpainrelief #lowerbackpain #backpainsucks #slouching #sciaticapain #posturecorrector #physiotips #muscletightness #spinealignment #tighthamstring #sciaticasucks #shoulderwarmup #neutralspine #posturalrestoration #stiffback #improvemobility #physicaltherapyexercises #forwardheadposture #performancept #rotatorcuffrehab #rehabexercises #performancehealth #exerciseciencemajor #hipstrengthening #painfreetraining #intraabdominalpressure https://www.instagram.com/p/CFqz-6_p9TQ/?igshid=1di0v519ho3sj
