The house was supposed to be a temporary respite, but when a massive sandstorm descends upon Cairo the Class of '38 and their new friends must find new ways to pass the time. A quick sketch! [l->r: Angie, Emma, Aubrey, Joyce] - - - - - I’ve not spoken much about the side characters or background characters of Steve and Emma’s story (or any of them, to be fair), but meet Aubrey and Joyce! While Emma and Angie might be happily married to the Frazier brothers now, Joyce and Aubrey, the daughters of family friends, are the two women Roger and Sheryl picked out for their boys Spencer and Joyce were actually married for a little while, but their relationship was never really anything special, lukewarm at best, nights spent arguing at worst. Joyce was often indifferent, talking at him rather than to him, and could be found more often at the bar or the casino than at home; Spencer put up with it for a time, tried to make it work, and sure, he has his own problems, but the tabs racked up fast. At least the divorce was mutual Steven and Aubrey, while never married, had plenty of issues. Both in a first-time relationship, he loved her with his entire heart, he really did, tried *everything* he could to make her happy, even let her be the one to finally end things; but she was nasty, is still nasty. I can’t go into too much detail here, but there were bruises, there was dishonesty, there were things thrown, there was one instance that got her kicked out of Steve and Spencer’s apartment (and Spencer *really* wanted to ☠️ her that night). Needless to say, Steven’s much better off without her - - - - - These two have been designed for a long time I just needed an excuse to draw them haha. And these four do meet a couple times in canon, at events hosted by Roger and Sheryl. Fun fact Sheryl still keeps in contact with Joyce and Aubrey; it’s how they find out Steve and Spencer are married and have kids 🙃

I've abandoned this blog, haven't I? If two posts counted as a blog in the first place. Just haven't had time.

So a quick, lazy post today - top 5 favourite ao3 fics, in order:

These Days Without You by Smitty - I've called this the gold standard of sunflower before, and I haven't met anyone else who disagrees. Smitty is a highly talented writer. Masterful utilisation of headspace and the descriptive writing.

Their Time by ShardOfHope - This gets #2 not because of any shade on Shard, but because 1. it is shorter, and its value kind of does lie in the fact that it is shorter, 2. it is quite a bit darker so may not be suitable for everyone (but has a good ending, dw) and 3. sorry, but you do need a proofreader. (let me be your proofreader pls)

I won't spend too much time explaining it because virtually any explanation is a spoiler. All I'll say is, if you ever feel like you want to hurt yourself, read this. (And also talk to friends and therapists, of course.) Unironically.

Deep Down, We're Still The Same Kids by witheredahlia - fluff. All the fluff, and canon compliant, and still hits hard. It is, more or less, the best immediate post good end story.

The Everyday Shenanigans of Aubrey by Practicallyunethical - me, a filthy sunflower shipper, putting a sunburn fic on here!? But the author does handle the fic really, really well, taking what I can only call a surrealist approach to life. It's a bit hard to read, like all classics, but it is one of only a handful of omori fics that I can make genuine literary comparisons to the likes of James Joyce, etc. Beautiful work.

One More Time by GalileoGalilei - Another sunburn fic? Am I even a sunflower shipper anymore? (yes.) But I think that anyone who has read it will quite agree that it is an excellent and impactful work. There's lots of angst - this is post bad end - but a glimmer of hope at the end which keeps the reader going. It does fall into the "shafting Basil aside" pitfall I mentioned in my first post, in my opinion, but that does not detract massively from the value of the fic.

But I just love the darkness and intensity of what you post, it's what I am drawn to most in this world and so I was wondering what are your inspirations? Your favorite artworks? Music/songs? Are there any particular artists from the past long go or present that you like in terms of what they have to say, saying something new!!!

I just have to mention that I have fallen inlove with Marilyn Monroe recently and I love her poetry 'fragments' I especially love her thoughts she gives in interviews, she had a remarkable intellect.

First of all, I want to apologise for how long it’s taken me to answer this. Summer really took it out of me this year and I haven’t been active on here. I hope that you still see this. I love this ask and I don't find it invasive at all. Thank you for asking!

Some of my favourite artists: Edvard Munch, Vincent van Gogh, Gustave Doré, John Bauer, Edmund Dulac, Odilon Redon, Franz von Stuck, Kay Nielsen, Alfred Kubin, Aubrey Beardsley, John William Waterhouse, Arthur Rackham.

Edmund Dulac’s ‘The Ice- Maiden’ from The Dreamer of Dreams is probably my favourite piece of art. It shows the Ice Maiden with two polar bears and broken hearts in her hand.

As for contemporary art, most of my favourites are photographers. I particularly love post-mortem photography — Victorian and modern. Photographers such as Andres Serrano, Jeffrey Silverthorne, Sally Mann, Joel-Peter Witkin, Walter Schels, Patrik Budenz.

Some favourite music: Goth and post-punk, various 80’s, various synth, Nick Cave, early Tori Amos, The Cure, Nine Inch Nails, PJ Harvey, Aphex Twin, Chelsea Wolfe, Kate Bush, Joy Division, Wardruna, Rammstein, Type O Negative, The Sisters of Mercy, Talking Heads, Cocteau Twins, Tool, The Smiths, Fiona Apple, Björk...

I have so many favourite songs by the above artists and others⁠ — some of them are on my blog here. My favourite piece of music since I was a very young child has been Tchaikovsky's theme from Swan Lake. Another random song that I'll mention is Goodbye Horses by Q Lazzarus. I've been obsessed with it in one way or another since I first heard it as a child in Silence of the Lambs (one of my favourite films).

Have you read Blonde by Joyce Carol Oates? It's a fictionalised take on Marilyn Monroe's life. I’ve never had an interest in Marilyn Monroe but I enjoyed that book. I will look up some of her poetry!

HP NEW GEN Parental Masterlist

Sooooo, I’m beginning to realize seeing the same style headcanons constantly might get a bit boring for some after a while, so I’ve decided to branch out and provide you with something new and exciting (although I will still be posting those headcanons).

When reading the headcanons about my OCs, some of you may wonder who these kid’s parents are. While I give context in the posts themselves, I thought it would be a fun idea to create a masterlist of who’s the child of who, just so I can say this blog has some variety to it.

This list will only include the parents of my OCs, as everyone already knows who the canon character’s parents are anyway. Also, the pairings on this list are - for the most part - very random. In addition, I’ve made the executive decision to cross this universe over with that of Roald Dahl’s “Matilda” because there’s no way she would not have gone to Hogwarts with the Potter-Gen crew. All this to say, this list might get a little crazy. You have been warned.

BASIC INTRO: 

aubrey is originally from lewisham in london, she has a vietnamese mother and an english father, they met at work. 

she’s a sterotypical middle child, she’s got an older sister and a younger brother. 

she was diagnosed with ADHD as a child, it was pretty obvious, she was a big ball of energy, all over the place, talking a million miles a minute. 

her parents are very loving and they just want the best for her, but they do struggle with certain things.

for example, it took a lot of pushing from one of aubrey’s teachers to get her parents to take her for an ADHD diagnosis.

they just waved it off, calling her a hyperactive teenager, paying no attention to it.

ANYWAY, she realised from an early age that she was different, she wasn’t into the same things that other kids her age were into.

she liked to use her older sisters make-up, her older sister gave her make overs all the time. 

aubrey and her sister used to do fashion shows for their parents all the time, their parents just thought it was funny, aubrey would put on a big act and pretend. 

at school, again the same teacher noticed that something was up, she’d seen aubrey’s painted nails. 

supporting aubrey, she came out, it was pretty scary for her but it definitely felt like the right thing to do.

she came out to her parents, they struggled, they weren’t so sure, they didn’t like it. 

she chose the name aubrey, because, guess what?! it was the name of the teacher who’d helped her so much. 

eventually her parents got used to it kinda they still slipped up but they were trying their best. but aubrey needed to get out of that environment, so off she went!!

she moved out of her parents home and went off to university (to study english) in central london, she was eighteen, just starting her journey to becoming a woman.

that’s were she met maryam joyce (@maryamjoyce) and for awhile the pair were in a situationship, they were both going through their own things & they found a lot of comfort in each other. 

now as an adult, she’s a proud woman!!!! she’s incredibly happy!!!!

she’s got her own cute little flat with a cat, she’s working as an editorial assistant.

aubrey sees her parents occasionally but she’s not all that close with them, she’s still incredibly close with her siblings though and sees them reguarly. aubrey has created her own found family, with friends instead!!!!
