Work the next day was a struggle. I felt drained, physically and emotionally. Waking up to an empty room always left a bittersweet taste in my mouth but after the night before I had felt even worse. The coldness of Morpheus’ voice haunted me throughout the day, mixing and churning with echoes of voices from my past. It was like being trapped in my own waking nightmare, something I hadn’t dealt with in a long time. The passing thought of “I should probably go back to therapy” rattled around but explaining that you were kinda seeing an anthropomorphic being in your dreams was a hard sale and definitely would have gotten me sent for a psych eval. I hated feeling like this. Sad and small and depressed, not quite knowing what to do. I had been so upset the night before, the news a shock to my system, but now I wasn’t sure what to do. He said I mattered, that I wasn’t exactly in the wrong for questioning but at the same time that didn’t mean he was going to start sharing. We were both blank books to each other and neither were eager to reveal the hidden contents. Anissa passed by my desk for a third time and I could feel her eyes on me, watching as I slowly typed in another report on the new release that had launched a few weeks ago. I knew she could see the bags under my eyes and the way my clothes were just slightly in disarray. After she circled back around for another drive-by, I stopped and stared straight at her. “What?” I dryly commented, raising an eyebrow at her. Her red brow lifted and she played off nonchalance, shrugging, “Nothing! Just seeing what you were up to?” “Mmhmm,” I narrowed my eyes at her, “Working, like you should be. Just spit it out, Nissa.” She whistled under her breath and leaned against the wall of my cubicle, “Someone sure is grouchy today, Miss Dahlia. I would say I’m sensing man troubles, but someone keeps insisting she’s not actually seeing someone.” “Because I’m not,” I grumbled. Last night made that clear…ish. Anissa clapped her hands, grin on her face, “Well good! Then you have no reason not to come out for drinks after work tonight!” I wanted to groan and say I wasn’t interested immediately. I wasn’t really interested in socializing and my stomach was already in knots since Morpheus had said he would make it up to me tonight. I was anxious, angry, hurt, not completely over what had happened and how I had so easily slipped back into my old trauma reactions. But I still wanted to see him, wanted that easy comfort we seemed to have around each other. I wanted him to like me. The small, indigent part of me reared its head up again. Why shouldn’t I? I had my own life in the Waking world, my own friends and goals and things I wanted to accomplish. It wasn’t all about him, waiting around to go to the Dreaming. At the end of the day, I didn’t get to stay there and had to come back to this life. It’s not like he had made the same effort to visit me that often outside of his own realm. It was dumb and petty but true. I could sit at home alone, moping and waiting to go to sleep, or I could go out for a bit, relax, and hang out with Anissa. She was a good friend if a bit of an airhead and a little self-focused, but I knew she cared. She’d been the first one to reach out when I got the job and been there through a lot of ups and downs. Why shouldn’t I go out with her? So even though my inner hermit wanted to scream no, I sighed and forced a smile, “Fine, I will go. But! I don’t want to stay out too long, I’m tired and want to get to sleep.” Because I had a date with the King of Dreams. She clapped excitedly, a grin spreading on her face, “Yes! Honestly, Dahl, you need a drink and I think it would be good for you to get out of that sad little apartment of yours.” I rolled my eyes and went back to my report, “Thanks, now go away.” Her laughter trailed after her as she walked away. I fought to keep the anxious need to cancel at bay, to find Anissa and say nevermind all the rest of the day. Bravery and frustration had fueled me to say yes but now as I waited for the day to end, I was regretting it. I wanted to go home and mope. But the clock continued and as the work day ended, Anissa swung by so we could walk out together and head to our usual bar down the road. Friday would mean after work happy hour and a crowd but it was a nice place and usually only inhabited by the older working crowd and not a bunch of drunk college kids. I pulled my cardigan close to me over my work dress, staving off the Autumn chill during the walk. “Alright, so spill the deets. What’s been going on with you?” Anissa said as soon as we sat down inside at a tall table in the back corner. Chatter surrounded us and the lights were warm and inviting as the jukebox played an older tune. “And don’t say nothing, you’re an awful liar!” she cut me off as I opened my mouth. I sighed, “It’s…just me getting stuck in my head. I’m just feeling a little insecure at the moment.” A waitress came by and took our drink orders and I defaulted to my usual cranberry vodka since I didn’t plan on drinking much and beer tasted awful to me. My friend narrowed her eyes at me, lips pursed, “This is about that guy you started hooking up with after Thomas, isn’t it?” I cringed at the term ‘hooking up’ but couldn’t exactly deny it. That is what me and Morpheus were doing, it just sounded odd in relation to Dream of the Endless, Lord of the Dreaming and King of the Nightmare Realms. “No-” “Dahl.” “Okay, yes-” I relented, groaning, “But it’s not a big deal. We’re not dating, it’s only something casual. I just…got confused about where we stood. It’s all taken care of though, things are fine.” She frowned, thanking the waitress as she dropped off the drinks and taking a healthy sip of her own, “You know when I said there’s no harm in having a little fun after a breakup…you usually don’t keep the fun around for long. Like then it becomes less fun and more messy. Feelings get involved, shit gets complicated, lines get blurred-” “Okay, I get it-” I cut her off, “I know. I know! It wasn’t like I intended for all this…it just happened.” Her face softened to sympathy and I knew she was thinking I was a sad lonely girl who didn’t know what I was doing. She wasn’t wrong, but I didn’t want other people to know that. She gave me a small, sympathetic smile, “Fun is good but I think you deserve someone that will make you feel comfortable, love you, accept you as you are! I know you’ve had some issues in the past-” “That’s an understatement,” I muttered. “-But! I know you deserve someone that will see it and accept it and be considerate to what you need. You’re having fun for now but maybe when the fun starts to make you sad, it’s time to call it,” Anissa finished. The ice in my glass clinked and I looked away from her to stare at my drink.
It sounded so much simpler in theory, but seeing Dream was addicting. I loved the Dreaming, I loved the way he made me feel and the attention he gave me, the way this being that had seen so much had decided that I was interesting enough to spend time with. But the thought left an acrid taste in my mouth and I felt an echo of my younger self. Sixteen and thrilled that a guy older than me thought I was beautiful, wanted to be around me. I took a large gulp of my drink, the vodka burning my throat and the sweetness of the cranberry coating my mouth. Anissa luckily changed the topic, switching to talking about work and her sister’s wedding that was coming up, throwing out the idea that I should join her for the holidays on a trip. I didn’t have any family and usually stayed home, drowning out the outside world, ignoring the commercials about family get-togethers and Christmas mornings. I let her ramble and take over, doing what she did best as I listened and nodded along. The bar grew more full, the crowd filling the floor and taking over the tables. Every now and then it felt like the space in my back was burning, like someone was staring and I was worried maybe Thomas had shown up, but when I looked around I couldn’t see anything. I chalked it up to my own paranoia, reasoning that he preferred the other bar further down the road. The time passed and I was getting ready to cut Nissa off and head back home so I could get settled and go meet Morpheus. It was getting close to the normal time I’d pass out and go there, something that had become clockwork over the past months. As I was getting ready to flag down the waitress, my friend grinned at someone in the crowd and raised her hand high, waving. I frowned and glanced over, trying to see who she was focused on and my stomach dropped slightly. I looked at Anissa and glared.
“Tell me you didn’t invite Cam?” I growled under my breath, staring her down. She only turned to me and smiled innocently, shrugging. “He must have just shown up!” she feigned nonchalance, grinning as our tall dark haired co-worker saddled up to the table. Cameron had started working in our department a few months back, but only recently had been added to our project group for one of the new releases. He was nice, sweet, lean with a mop of dark brown hair and tanned skin. Sometimes a little awkward, but we’d gotten along easily once we got to work together more. And he had a crush on me…as Anissa liked to mention all the time in her attempt to matchmake. He was a good guy, but I wasn’t really interested. Something I had told her before. Multiple times. “Hey, Cam!” Nissa cheerfully greeted him. He glanced my way with a small smile and I returned him, greeting him as well. He grabbed an empty chair and pulled it up, still in the same dark blue button up shirt he had worn at work. “Hey, Dahlia,” he nodded at me, rubbing the back of his neck. I sent a glance at Anissa, a small glare out the corner of my eyes, “Hey, funny to see you here. Did you only just leave work now?” Cameron shrugged, “Yeah, I had to stay late to finish up a few things since I’ll be out on Monday. That report Kransky wanted done was a nightmare and I knew I’d be getting a thousand emails while I was out if I didn’t finish it now.” Quarterly wrap up was soon and we’d all been stressed, but I didn’t envy him staying so late in the office, “Well I’m glad you got it knocked out the way so you can enjoy your time away from the office. As soon as Quarterly is finished, I’m half tempted to take a mental health day.” Anissa looked between us, abruptly standing up, “I’m gonna go get another drink! Cam, want anything? I’ll buy!” If I could burn her to cinders with my eyes, I would. I stared her down as Cameron looked at her, seeing her wide grin. He ordered a beer and I watched her disappear into the crowd, swallowed out of sight, and leaving me alone with him. The burning on my back intensified and I glanced again into the crowd, not seeing anything. For a moment I thought I saw the familiar shape of Dream’s coat but it was Autumn so everyone wore the same jackets. “Sorry for popping up,” Cameron started, wincing, “I didn’t mean to interrupt your hang out session.” I turned back to him and gave him a smile, “It’s totally fine. Anissa dragged me out here and we’ve only been chit chatting. No biggie.” He braced his elbows on the table, lips turning up in the corner, “Dragged you out, huh? Socializing that bad for you?” Laughing softly, my fingers traced circles in the condensation of my glass, “Not always. I think I’m just a homebody. I’ve never been big on crowds or even drinking, that’s more her scene.” “More of a books and tea kind of gal?” Cameron teased and swayed, bumping his shoulder into mine. I rolled my eyes, bumping his shoulder back, “Yes, I am that stereotype, thank you. I do work in the book industry, after all.” “There is absolutely nothing wrong with that!” he placated and grinned, “A good story can be infinitely better than being in a crowd while a bunch of drunken dudes shout at the TV and your shoes stick to the floor.” “Speaking of good stories,” I raised my brow and leaned in, almost whispering conspiratorially, “You hear about the Richard Madoc shit show? Thank god we’re not having to handle that.” The burning at my back continued and I rubbed at my spine, wondering if a bug had bit me or something that was making my skin hot. Cameron grinned, leaning forward, “I heard they found him with his fingers all cut up and writing in his own blood. Like how does someone even have a breakdown like that?” We talked about gossip and work, the different projects and complained about our bosses. At some point I glanced at my phone, seeing the time. I had meant to leave, meant to head back home. Our usual meeting time had come and gone somehow and a part of me felt guilty. But another part of me didn’t want to leave yet. It was small and petty, but it said fuck it. Like I had thought earlier, this was my life. It didn’t center around the Dream King and even if I wasn’t interested in Cameron, he was a nice guy and we got along well. He was still a good friend to have and I’m sure Morpheus had plenty to keep himself busy with until I would show up. So I stayed. I could be a little late, it was fine. He’d kept me waiting most of the night anyways. Anissa came back at some point, having taken a ridiculously long time getting drinks and brought me another as well. She had her own gossip to share and I ignored her knowing glances when Cameron would tease me, poking my arm or bumping into me. I wasn’t going to let her push me into anything and it was all good fun. “-you should have seen his face!” Cameron laughed, lifting the beer bottle to his lips, “You would think for a writer a few basic questions wouldn’t stump him.” I grinned and laughed, “That’s what I’m saying! I totally think it’s a ghost writer! If you listen to that man talk, he sounds nothing like his books.” “You guys are mean!” Anissa cackled, “Stop! I actually like his books!” Cameron and I looked at each other and busted out laughing again before he raised his brow, “Well when his ghost writer continues then you’ll have even more books to like!” We both laughed at her fake pout, her holding back a smile. Cam patted the table, pushing away, “Alright, I gotta go to the restroom real fast. Dahl, you want another drink on my way back?” I pointedly ignored the fact he had only asked me, rolling my eyes, “Of course you have to pee, that shitty IPA you drink wants to return to its natural form. And no, I’m good, thank you!” He rolled his eyes back, pointing a finger at me, “You lack refined taste! It’s a craft beer, it’s supposed to taste like pee!” I laughed and watched him walk to the back where the restrooms were before turning to Anissa and her shit eating grin. “Yall are so cute,” she cackled. “Stop,” I hissed but with a small smile, “I’m not interested. He’s a good friend, but I am capable of being friends with a guy without dating him.” She groaned and flopped forward, sprawling on the table, “But he’s so sweet and you can tell from a mile away that he likes you! Plus, a cute guy who is into books! Goldmine!” “That’s a pretty low standard, Nissa,” I deadpanned. “Ugh,” the red head threw her hands in the air, “Dahlia Morrowland, I love you. Dearly. But I want you to seriously consider something.” A lump formed in my throat, anxiety kicking off at the sudden serious tone she was taking and the way her lips turned downward, “Cameron is a nice guy who likes you. I know you’re attached to your mystery man, but I think maybe it’s time you consider an actual relationship with someone who isn’t going to lead you around because you deserve that after-” “Okay, Anissa, I understand your concern,” I cut her off, “It’s…complicated, but I’ll think about it.” She patted my arm, eyes full of understanding and sympathy, “That’s all I ask. Now, since Cam lovingly did not ask if I wanted another drink, I’m gonna go grab one. I’ll be right back!” I watched as she slipped out of her chair and made her way to the bar, the crowd having thinned out considerably now. It was close to eleven at night, now far past my usual bedtime, but the alcohol was loosening my nerves and I needed that. Needed the liquid courage to brave facing Dream again and the aftermath of our fight. Anissa’s words swirled in my mind though. Cameron was nice, but… I wasn’t ready for that. I wasn’t ready to end things yet with Morpheus and as he had said, I was his and he was mine. I didn’t want to give him up, didn’t want him to give me up. Sure, things were a bit of a mess and I really didn’t know where we stood with each other even with us claiming the other, but it was worth it still. I drank more of my watered down alcohol, the condensation dripping and sliding down my arm like a cool touch. In the blurred image at the bottom of my glass, I thought I could see two stars gleaming at me and I slammed my drink down, looking around me quickly. He wasn’t there, but out the corner of my eyes were glimpses of pale, alabaster skin and black ink hair. I looked again and there was nothing, but that feeling of burning pinpricks stayed on my back and I realized I knew what it felt like. Eyes watching me. The concentrated focus of magic and power. My heart seized and I struggled to swallow, hoping I was imagining it all or that the alcohol was causing me to be more paranoid. It’s not like I had done anything. I went out for drinks with friends. Sure, I’d picked that over being on time to a date with King of Dreams but it wasn’t like I was bailing completely. He couldn’t possibly be mad about that, right? There was a sudden commotion in the back of the bar, near the restrooms. Cameron came bursting out the door, the wood slamming against the wall and picture frames clattering to the ground. He collapsed onto the ground and started crawling backwards as he stared at the room in horror, panic causing his limbs to move jerkily. His face was drained of color and fear had blown out his pupils, sweat drenching him. The bar went silent in the wake of his frantic, desperate whimpers as he scuttled backwards and attempted to get to his feet. I stood from the table, shocked and worried, headed to him as cold dread settled into my stomach. He spun around, looking everywhere in terror as people tried to help him up and settle him. Anissa came up beside him and asked what was wrong, but he could only spout a jumbled mess of words as fear coated every inch of him, shirt rumpled. As I moved closer, the words, “. ..shadow…nightmare…monster… ” reached me as he sputtered with tears in his eyes. I stopped as he made eye contact with me, eyes widening even more, and he backed away. And I could see it in the eyes, the sheer terror of witnessing something that didn’t make sense but pure instinct driving you. Pushing the arms off him, he ran for the door and left the bar without another word, taking off at a dead sprint. Nightmare. My breath was coming in short, rasps as I stared at the door Cameron had run out of…and the black coat of the Nightmare King following shortly after. He’d been there. He wouldn’t. He had. I was staring but not seeing, the sound in my ear muffled as a high pitch screeching sounded over and over again. I couldn’t feel, couldn’t breathe. The room was a blur as I blinked unstaring at the door, ignoring Anissa grabbing me and asking questions. Morpheus had been there, watching me. Watching Cameron. I do not share. Anger burned white hot through me, burning away reason or logic or excuses. I had the vague recollection of Anissa trying to get my attention, but I couldn’t hear her anymore beyond the rage that flared through me. How dare he? How fucking dare he? I made an excuse that I had to head out and left the bar, not even feeling the chill on my skin from how hot I burned. The walk home was a blur, feet carrying me while my mind churned and churned. Morpheus had done something to Cameron, had scared him, terrified him, made him scared of me. What right did he have? Especially after the night before? My door was before me in a blink and even before I opened it, I knew what would be on the other side. Who would be on the other side. His power itched along my skin, expanding past the walls of the apartment, stinging and dangerous. The apartment was dark except for the moonlight coming through the windows. Morpheus sat on my couch, legs crossed, and drenched in shadow. Twin points of light stared at me from a cloaked dour face, arms crossed. His power was radiating and I knew that even if I could feel it through the door, he was barely keeping it leashed. The Nightmare King sat in the dark of my home as if it were his throne room and I was entering his domain. I slammed the door shut and flicked on the lights, blue eyes meeting mine. “Were you there?” I shouted, my bag thrown to the ground and my finger pointing into the distance. He didn’t shift, didn’t blink, only continued to stare at me with a face so pale it looked like moonlight and eyes that glittered dangerously.
My breath was coming out in heavy pants, drink turning sour in my stomach, “Did you do that?!” The Endless’ chin raised, high and mighty, lips pressed together tightly as he growled, “The mortal should count himself lucky for I could have been far more terrible.” I huffed out the air from my lungs in anger, disbelief flooding me as I placed my hands on my hips and stared down at the carpeted floor. Hearing it out loud, hearing him all but confirm his involvement, made it all sink in so much worse, “Cameron did nothing wrong, he didn’t deserve whatever you did!” “So you would defend him?” Morpheus asked with a curled lip. He stood from the couch, tall and dark in the warm light of my very human apartment. His coat bordered on solid and smoke, the edges hazy as he struggled to keep his mortal appearance. “I would defend a coworker and friend who didn’t deserve to have the Nightmare King sicced on him for simply being around me!” I yelled and stepped closer. Dream’s eyes were a swirling miasma of stars and chaos, almost black with anger as he towered over me, “Did nothing wrong? The mortal was clearly interested in you, kept touching you-” I shook my head, not believing what I was hearing, “Because he flirted with me, you punished him? Are you kidding me? Do you not see how that is such bullshit?” My blood was racing and fingers clenched into tight fists. Morpheus stepped closer, only a foot away so I had to crane my neck to meet his gaze, “You did not deter him and I warned you. I do not share. You were told that, told that I would not be able to control myself.” “Oh so you gave yourself an excuse ahead of time, wonderful,” I hissed at him sarcastically, “I’m so sorry, your majesty, I guess that makes it all better! I was being friendly. He’s just a friend. What, I can’t be around another man now without you freaking the fuck out on him but you can go see your ex-wife and I can’t say shit?” “That was different,” he argued. “It’s not!” I screamed and wanted to throw something out of frustration, “Fucks sake, for an immortal you seem like every other guy and their double standards. You left and didn’t tell me at all almost all night, but I’m just supposed to trust that it meant nothing?! Trust goes both ways, Morpheus! If you want me to trust you then you have to trust me.” “The mortal-” “Stop! This isn’t even about him really!” I pushed him back slightly, trying to get space, keep him from lording over me and talk down like I was a disagreeable child, “You know me! It doesn’t matter what he does, you should have trusted that I wouldn’t do anything! I would never have betrayed you like that, but you didn’t even give me a chance.” He snarled, “I did give you a chance. I watched you and not once did you dissuade his advances.” “Yes, you watched me which was a violation on its own,” my throat was thick with emotion, eyes stinging with anger and exhaustion and disbelief, “I have a life, Morpheus. I don’t get to stay in the Dreaming. I have to go to work, make money, interact with people on a daily basis. He’s my coworker, I work with him. If he asked me, I would have said I’m not interested but I was being friendly without making it awkward which is what humans do! So are you going to try and forbid me from being around other men?” The lights flickered and the air in the room was so oppressive it was hard to breathe, anger painting his face. I could see that red star in the shadowed half of his face, the way his jaw was sharp in rage.
He stepped closer and grabbed my chin tightly in his hand, forcing our eyes to meet, “I could. The difference between us is that I am a monarch with my own responsibilities that you cannot possibly fathom, not an indignant child to be berated. I will do as I wish as I see fit and the human deserved punishment for touching that which is mine. You did not come to me so I found you there with him. You have only yourself to blame for his fear.” “This is your fault!” “I did it because of you.” The memory seized me, hard and shocking. A different hand gripping my face in a bruising hold, spit and the hot smell of alcohol on my cheeks, hands scrambling for a hold as my balance was off kilter- My hand stung as it connected with his face hard, barely even shifting him as tears streamed down my cheeks. He didn’t react, didn’t move, fingers still on my chin. I pushed him, shoved, desperate and panicked like a wild animal until he let go and only the ache of his fingers on my face was left. “Get out,” I half sobbed, barely holding myself together, “Get the fuck out!” Anger still painted his face but it lessened as his eyes lightened and watched as I tried to keep from breaking down completely in front of him. His cheek was slowly turning red in the low light. My knees shook and I sank to the ground, hands digging into the carpet as I trembled and sobbed my throat raw. No sound except for my heaving breaths filled the room as I struggled not to hyperventilate, tears coming hot and fast. I wasn’t sure when he disappeared from in front of me, the air lightening a bit at one point, but I was too lost to even fully notice. I curled into a huddled ball on the floor, sobbing and wondering how it had all gone wrong.

Meet cute
—————
To give Omega a break from hosting, Epsilon had invited them and YJL to dinner at their tower.
Where Omega’s main living area had high ceilings and a massive kitchen, epsilon’s was more intimate. Still large, with a balcony between the tv area and kitchen, but more personal touches through out the area. Pictures of the girls at various ages. Souvenirs from trips over the years. Soft blankets and squishy pillows. A rainbow dildo enscribed with “Friendship” hanging over the door to the balcony. Cozy, clean, and full of life.
Kathy, Maya, and Nell bustle around the kitchen. Kathy finishing a several kinds of chili, gently moving around her girlfriend. Maya putting cold sandwiches, drinks, and fruit together, chatting happily with Nell. The current Batgirl finishes several sides and dessert. With four speedsters coming, along with the other 18 teenagers, left overs aren’t likely.
In the living area Jennifer and Sin sit on the couch, playing their favorite video game. Curled in her favorite arm chair, Anissa reads over a medical textbook. But hunched over the kitchen table, surrounded by blueprints, sketches, calculations and more paper than anyone should be able to get through, is Tiffany. Mumbling under her breath as her dark eyes dart around.
The door opens as the first team arrives. Matty West is already bickering with Ceridian’ahm about…Atlantis? Jania West and Luca Gordon-Grayson cackle as they push the other boys buttons, with a familiarity that goes back years. Zachary Zatara tucks a glass jar into a messenger bag, unlit cigarette in his teeth. Lucy Quinzel, in her usual roller skates, pushes past the others, “Party has arrived—is that a strap on?”
“Inside joke.” Anissa explains with a laugh, greeting everyone. She notices the last person trailing in doesn’t follow the others. Instead, Connor drifts to the table. The resident genius pauses in the brainstorming, allowing him to see the design she’s working on.
“Can I ask?”
“You can.” Jennifer grins, in that annoying little sister way, “But we don’t have to answer. Tiff, can we clear the table please?”
“And please tell me you have all your pets locked down.” Anissa says to the engineer. Tiffany nods absentmindedly, clearing her work from the table.
“Pets?” Connor asks, helping Tiffany with the materials. What peaks Epsilon’s interest is how Tiffany lets him. She always had a way to do things and they just let her. But since meeting Connor, a lot of her habits adjust when he’s around. Handing her a sketchbook, the handsome boy offers a kind smile, “What kind of pets do you have?”
Looking up shyly, Tiffany says, “I have reptiles and amphibians.”
“Oh?” Connor asks, tilting his head, “Do you have a favorite?”
Reaching into a special pocket on her sweater, she pulls out a small newt, “This is Newton. He likes to spend time with me.”
Epsilon holds their breath. How many times have they seen some guy look disgusted at her interests? Or seen the light dim in her dark eyes because someone didn’t care. Or watched her trail off because the one person she wanted to listen….didn’t? As smart as she is, sometimes machines are easier to understand than people.
“Hello, Newton,” Connor says with a genuine smile, “He’s a crested newt, right?”
Have they ever seen Tiffany light up like that? Dark eyes shining and nose scrunching, she nods,“Yes! He is!”
“I used to collect frogs from a pond in the grounds. Would shove them in my pants to sneak them in.” Connor explains, holding a finger out to Newton. “Never worked, but Mom and Dad got a laugh out of it. Can you tell me more about Newton?”
“I’d love to!” Tiffany begins to babble about Crested Newts, arms full of supplies as Connor helps her carry it to the lab. Nodding and asking questions as they head out the door.
Lucy glance Nell, “Why do I feel like that was a big deal?”
“Because I’m pretty sure we all just witness Tiffany Fox fall in love.” Nell muses, setting more plates on the table.
“Oh, thank god!” Lucy laughs, “Connor’s been bouncing off the walls. He’s crazy for her. Always going on about new ideas to talk to her about.”
“Easy, Lu.” Matty snorts, swiping a sandwich with his sister. “If those two ever create a child—“
“Shhhh…” Jenn covers their mouth. “We don’t need to bring that energy here. Tiff already blows up the lab once a week.”
“Eh.” Jania shrugs, “Connor does too. He hasn’t blown himself up yet.”
Zachary laughs, kissing his girlfriend’s head, “Jani, love, I think that’s better than whatever her team would do to him if he broke her heart.”
The six girls exchange a look.
“Should we tell them?”
“They’ll never believe it.”
“She’s got a sweet face—“
“Nellie, we both know that means nothing—“
“Remember the Seacasters? They’re still fighting her viruses—“
“That was two years ago!”
“That’s my point!”
They banter back and forth before Sin cuts in. “Full honesty? Tiffany is the scariest one of us.”
“…two of you were trained to kill—“
“Ah,” Maya tuts, “That’s most people’s mistake. Sin and me? We know how to break your body. Tiffany? She will destroy your entire life just to see how it burns.”
“And document it.” Jenn adds. “Leak sensitive information to public networks. Drain bank accounts for anonymous donations, usually to the causes they’re hurting the most. Bridges burned with one email or text, and she has an algorithm to copy a person’s…what was it, Maya?”
“‘A person’s written cadence and vernacular.’ Then, the piece de resistance, she unleashes a virus into their servers. Ever seen a Sternko system? The one that learns? She copied the code and used it in her virus. It learns as you try to destroy it.”
The other team is silent, letting that image of the other girl mesh with what they’d already seen. Sure, Tiffany is, without question, one of the smartest people they’d met. They absolutely believe she could logically do all that…but actually doing it….
Having known Connor longest. Lucy breaks the silence.
“I don’t think that’s going to deter him the way you think it would. In fact, he might propose to her sooner because of that.”
“I would for that code,” Luca sighs, ignoring the glance from his boyfriend. “Wonder if I can hack—“
“If you value your hands and life?” Anissa calmly interrupts, “I wouldn’t.”
“That’s homophobic.”
Sin snorts, “She couldn’t give less of a shit about sexuality. But touch her codes and you lose a limb.”
Zachary looks at Lucy, “20 quid Tiff makes the first move.”
“I’ll bet 50 it’s mutual and they sleep together before we leave.”

February Fifteenth
James x MC
It started with a note.
A week before Valentine’s Day James had found it, weirdly someone had managed to slip it into his own pocket. It was simple, just saying they liked his smile and other sweet things, and they had signed it as a secret admirer.
Then he found another one in his bag the next day.
And then another on the counter at the bar.
Then another.
Each one addressed to him, each one naming different things they admired about him, but each one signed the same.
He thought maybe it was a joke. His coworker, Anissa, seemed to find it funny every time she saw him stumble across one. After all Valentine’s Day had come and gone and he still didn’t know who it was.
But still, when he walked into work on the fifteenth, Anissa was grinning at him, “Find any new ones, lover boy?”
“Not today.” He answered with a sigh and a smile, he may not know who it was but it gave him something to talk to her about that wasn’t drunk patrons and drink orders. He tied his apron around his waist, hearing a crinkle in the pocket as his brow furrowed and he wondered if he grabbed the wrong one.
Another note.
Hearing a mocking gasp, he glanced back at Anissa, “Are you lying to me, Jimmy boy?”
He rolled his eyes with a chuckle, “Yes. Clearly I psychically knew this was there.”
“What’s it say this time?”
James almost didn’t want to read it. Sure, the notes he’d been getting were cute, but nothing compared to the feeling he got of just sharing them with Anissa. He shared everything he could with her, even his stories- she was basically his beta reader. His closest friend, and he still only really saw her at work. Still, determined to kick away this one sided crush, he opened the note, ‘I’ll be waiting for you outside at close. If you don’t want to see me, just turn out the light in back. I’ll be gone before you leave.’ The light in the back. The one he routinely left on because otherwise he stumbled and tripped over everything on his way out.
“Ooooh,” Anissa cooed, “Secret admirer won’t be so secret anymore.”
“Maybe.” James answered, wondering if he really wanted a who. He had until three to decide, and a glance at the clock told him what he knew- it was only six. He had hours to come to a decision.
He was coming to no decision. There were just as many reasons to do it as there were reasons not to. Pros, it could be someone he might genuinely come to like, someone that understood him. Cons, was he ready to give up on what he felt for Anissa? Was he ready to try to move on when he still found his eyes searching out her smile?
Bruno had stopped in, getting the run down and encouraging him to just go for it.
Valentina had told him that only he could make the right decision.
Hazeem had listened intently before telling James that he should turn the light out, because if he didn’t think he could give himself to someone new it may not be fair.
But none of them were really helping. Val was the closest to right, it was a decision he needed to make himself.
And as he traded loosely veiled jokes about patrons with Anissa, he wondered if he knew what to do- if he could even figure out what his gut what telling him.
Closing came far too quickly for him, and he busied himself with making sure glasses were clean as Anissa swept the floor. When she finished, he expected to hear her usual goodbye, but what she said instead was “Hope to see you soon, Jameson!”
It wasn’t the nickname that was odd. She regularly called him by any variation of James she could think of. But she usually just said she’d see him next shift. Was he being too hopeful? Reading too much into it?
The deciding time came, he only needed to lock up on his way out. But he stood there, light switch to the back room under his hand as he debated flipping it off.
He was almost blinded by the streetlights when he walked outside, locking the door as he ducked his head to see, a faint voice behind him almost went unnoticed. But he knew that voice well. “You left it on.” Turning, James saw Anissa standing there, not looking anything the confident bartender he knew, no sign of the woman he once saw grab a biker by the ear when he tried to start a fight under her watch. She stood before him now, flushed in the face as a shy smile curled her lips.
“It was you?” James felt a wave of confusion mixing with a swarm of warmth and joy. “Why didn’t you just say something?”
Her fingers fidgeted with her bag, “How could I?” She asked, laughter in her voice, “You’re too smart. You know that, right? You could be the next- I don’t know, Mary Shelley? Samuel Clemenson? I don’t know a famous romance writer- but you do, and you’ll become the next one. And I’ll just be-“
“Fist fighting men way bigger than you because they think they have a right to do whatever they want and no one will stop them?” She stopped, staring up at him with wide eyes, James smiled at her, “You could change the world, ya know. Maybe just the way you’re doing it now. One person at a time. No one acts up again when they return because they know you won’t stand for it. Kelly hasn’t been bothered by drunken flirtations since you put your foot down. Lexi hasn’t been as snippy. Even Dylan has seemed to change. That’s not because of me.”
“S-stop.” She tried to glare, “You’re making me sound better than I am.”
“I’m really not,” he laughed, “Now how about I walk you back to your flat?”
“Not yet- shit- I was supposed to- I wanted to-“
“Do you want to go to dinner with me tomorrow?” James didn’t know where this confidence came from. Maybe just because he finally knew she felt the same.
She glared again, “I was supposed to ask.” He waited, watching as she gave him a small smile, “But yes.”
“Good.” He carefully took her hand, “For now it’s the middle of the night. Let’s get you home.” But then a thought occurred to him, “Why today, by the way? Why not yesterday?”
She made a face, “And be an even bigger cliché than the letters already made me? Hard pass. The fifteenth… that feels more like us.”
He couldn’t really argue with that.

Black Lightning 1×05: “And Then the Devil Brought the Plague: The Book of Green Light”
Okay, Jefferson’s stunt double is easily recognizable in the flashbacks. They have completely different head shapes.
A new suit upgrade from Gambi gives Jefferson the ability to fly. He’s certainly having fun. (I also really love the soundtrack for this show.)
And then he sees a Black kid on Green Light getting taken down by the cops. Jefferson’s intervention is absolutely perfect. Stop shooting people when they have mental health breakdowns. They need help, not a body bag!
That’s how you de-escalate a situation without killing. “Next time, try using a taser first!”
Uh oh. Now something’s wrong with his mask. Jefferson shrugs it off and says he wants to keep practicing.
At headquarters, Gambi checks the security footage to see … Tobias. Tobias is in his shop! Gambi, don’t do anything stupid.
What do you mean you had a deal? Gambi, you knew he was still alive?
“Only thing I’m gonna measure you for is a coffin.”
Tumblr media
Ooh ... Okay, so maybe you’re not a whole traitor yet.
So apparently Tobias and his sister can’t age because of a serum they took? Well, that’s just wonderful.
Tobias says that Gambi’s working for the ASA, which means he has access to valuable intel. Intel on Black Lightning.
Gambi says he doesn’t know anything, but this raises some new and important questions. What is the ASA and why does Tobias think that Black Lightning would be Gambi’s enemy?
I’ll give Jefferson credit; he’s managed to keep his secret identity under wraps for a long time.
If Tobias is going to be paying Gambi visits, they’ve got even more problems.
Anissa, meanwhile, starts doing some research on metahuman abilities and stumbles across this video about an experiment in Freeland. Actually, how far is Freeland from Central City? Are they on the same Earth?
Tumblr media
And then, of course, Jen interrupts her. I love their sister relationship. Two of my younger sisters are the same size, so they’re always trading clothes or stealing from each other.
“I said shut the door!”
MOOD.
Apparently, nine superpowered kids disappeared in Freeland thirty years ago.
At the roller rink, Jen is harassed by two girls from another school who take jabs at both her and Khalil. When one of them shoves her, she puts them both on the ground. Yaas, Jennifer! Once again, don’t mess with Black Lightning’s daughters.
And then her friend just shows up like, “Girl, for real?” 😂 Sorry. She didn’t start this fight, but she finished it!
Later, Jefferson steps in to help this man trying to buy medicine for his daughter. How do you have three-year-old medicine sitting on your shelf? Don’t you restock?
Tumblr media
The fact that this cashier automatically goes for a bat when Jefferson shows signs of distress is just a microcosm of how quick people are to label Black men as threats. The other man at least has the decency to ask if he’s okay.
Hold on. Their grandfather, Alvin Pierce, was trying to expose a story about vaccines that gave people superpowers? Maybe Jefferson was one of the nine.
Jefferson goes hunting down another potential Green Light spot only to run into a white man with a shotgun. Time to run.
“Lawn jockey”? Oh, heck no, buddy. You’re about to get it.
Tumblr media
The man finally says that he gets the chemicals from a guy named Joey Toledo and Jefferson is ticked. Apparently, Toledo worked for Tobias. Now Jefferson is working the Alvin Pierce story from the other side. Seems like you’ve been keeping a lot of secrets, Gambi. Was Joey Toledo supposed to be dead, too?
Tumblr media
Gambi! Why won’t you tell him the truth? Whose side are you on? You know Tobias is the one behind all of this – Jefferson’s arch-nemesis! If he finds out about Tobias on the streets or Tobias catches him by surprise, he’s going to be absolutely livid.
In the middle of his rant, Jefferson keels over like a board, no warning whatsoever. Gambi calls in Lynn to take a look at him and they deduce that the headaches might be due to the suit upgrade.
Jeff wants to go after Toledo, but he’s in no shape. Lynn tells him to rest.
Tori tells Tobias that he shouldn’t have gone to see Gambi because “Lady Eve won’t be happy.” What the heck? Gambi knows her, too?
Tumblr media
We learn a lot about Tobias’ character this episode, from his rant about needing to be respected, his offensive use of the word “Negroes”, and the way he was treated by his father growing up because of his albinism. I’m not going to lie. I was a bit on the fence about the show having a villain with albinism as it’s so rare to see that condition represented at all, but in the context of this story, it opens up so many conversations about colourism and internalized prejudice. Tobias was never “Black enough” for his father and so he’s spent his life fighting for acceptance and respect. But in the process, he’s distanced himself from other Black people, positioned himself as being above them. As a result, he’s a very self-hating Black man with nothing but contempt for the Black community.
Still, tossing the word “Negroes” around in front of his dark-skinned sister is very tone-deaf.
Tori says that the only way he can move forward is by dealing with his first enemy: their father.
Finally, a talk between Anissa and Jefferson! Seems these girls don’t know much about their family history. Why did I want him to say, “Your grandfather ... was Black Lightning”? No, but that would’ve been cool! 😆
I was hoping that would be a longer conversation, but Jefferson doesn’t seem to like talking about his dad too much. Anissa, however, is not letting this go. She’s following the trail.
She finds the old editor of the Freeland Gazette, David Poe. Bro, that look on his face when she brings up the missing kids … 😨 Nobody wants to talk about this!
Anissa leaves when he kicks her out, but not without telling him that he was supposed to be “a champion for the common people.”
Black Lightning pays Henderson a visit. We’re going old school Quentin-and-the-Hood! Jefferson even gives him a burner phone and everything.
Tumblr media
He tells Henderson that Joey Toledo is back and that he’s prepared to go get him.
“The Black signal.”
Stop this! 😆😂
And then he disappears just like Batman. Typical.
Tumblr media
Lynn is not happy about Jefferson resuming his Black Lightning duties again, but they’re interrupted by …
Aw, great. It’s the girl from the roller rink and her moms.
Tumblr media
If she didn’t want her behind handed to her, then she should have kept her mouth shut! She attacked Jennifer first!
One of them looks like she’s got a bone to pick with Jefferson, too.
Wait, you’re leaving already? I thought you were waiting for Jen so that you could do the disciplinary talk.
Not all three of them side-eyeing her on their way out the door. Keep walking!
Tumblr media
Jefferson’s anger fades when he learns there were two girls (that’s why you hear both sides of the story), but Lynn’s not having it. “Not everybody solves their problems with their fists!” she says, looking pointedly at Jefferson. 😂
Editor Poe seems to like Anissa better today. He knows she’s not going to stop, so he gives her everything he has. But that information also got Alvin killed, so she needs to be careful.
Oh, the Whale siblings are going to resolve some daddy issues tonight!
Tumblr media
While going through Alvin’s articles about Tobias and the vaccines, Anissa finds a key to an old storage unit. Oh, please don’t go there by yourself!
“Jennifer, do you have my black hoodie?”
Jennifer, fully wearing the hoodie: “No, I’ve got my own hoodies!” 😆😂
Anissa chooses her catsuit instead.
Jefferson’s with Jen now! Finally, we’re actually getting some father-daughter talks for once.
“Sin of omission. Our family doesn’t communicate that way.”
Oh, really? So you’re going to tell her that you’re Black Lightning?
Tumblr media
Jen tells him that it’s not exactly easy being the principal’s daughter. Yeah, I definitely get that: loads of pressure, perpetual teacher’s pet, everyone thinking you’re a brat or being afraid of you, this huge reputation to uphold …
Her dad tells her that the best thing she can do is put the fire out.
And Anissa ripped her catsuit. Time to go shopping!
Brighter? Isn’t the idea not to be seen? You don’t want to stand out.
“Red would be great.” Nope. She wants her Beyoncé blonde! 😆
Tumblr media
Um, he said “superhero.” He does think it’s a costume party, right? 😳
Henderson gives Jeff a tip-off about a girlfriend of Joey Toledo’s.
Jefferson, don’t be dumb. Let Gambi fix the suit.
Tobias, meanwhile opens a letter from Lady Eve filled with white dust. Oh, that’s cruel. What does it say?
Anissa shows up to the storage facility in her new gear. Alright, girl, I see you! That’s not bad for a first-time suit. Although, the emblem on the chest does look a bit like Batwoman’s.
Tumblr media
“If you wanna be a superhero, you can’t be afraid of dead rats.”
Oh, honey, there could be so much worse in there.
She breaks into an old safe to find a vial full of chalky white crystals. Tell me that’s not the vaccine.
Tumblr media
Jefferson finds the girlfriend without a hitch and confiscates her phone. Now we’re catfishing Joey Toledo. 😆 Sorry, Joey. Your girl’s not coming.
Oh, wow. No hello or anything. Jefferson’s just throwing hands.
Tumblr media
Just like Gambi warned, the headaches start up again. This is why you don’t go out with a faulty suit!
Lynn’s going to be ticked.

Gosh, I hate it when it's clear that a story is not someone's gig at all but they choose to whine about it to the author-- making them feel bad about what they write maybe without even realizing it. It's not polite at all. Also, you know, fluffy fanfictions exist. Don't like, don't read. As simple as that. That ask gives "an old man telling a woman to 'smile more' vibes, I think.
I see what the anon is trying to do in defending you but as you said yourself Stella is flawed and you wrote her that way on purpose so you must have known that would get a reaction? And some would be positive and some negative, just because this anon GETS Stella's choices doesn't mean that everyone will and just like in real life people will get frustrated with her and they'll want to slap her and yell pull yourself together woman 🤣 and they'll also want to hug her and tell her how much she deserves to be treated better by all the people around her 🤷‍♀️ I don't know I think it's unfair to say that the story isn't their bag or they went out of their way to hurt your feelings and they just whined to you..... maybe they were just trying to give you their opinion and sure they said they didn't like her but that doesn't mean they couldn't get to like her. I'm sure even as the Author and creator youre sometimes like girl just go get some good wine find some good dick and move on with your life stop pining for Max you look stupid 🤣🤣 that doesn't mean you don't like her and that doesn't mean you don't like the story it just means at that moment in that time during that scene you wanted to smack her upside the head 🙈
Also Anissa is me and I am Anissa. LOVE HER. We stan a BFF who tells you your shit stinks when it stinks.
Also hope Greg rots that piece of shit. What a PSYCHO.
Also she finally told him the truth and he didn't pick her (BOOOOOOOOOOOOO) I'm gonna need him to grovel for his life before she even agrees to see him again, the era of Stella is about to hit and our girl is GONNA THRIVE......once she gets psst the fact she has a psycho ex trying to kill her and is hung up on a guy either too stupid, too scared or both to realise he has the world in his hand and just let her slip through she is gonna THRIVE and I'm here for it.....
hello my darling ✨sorry it took me this long to get to my asks it's been a terrible week. Anyways, as always, thank you for taking the time to send a little comment my way, it's always appreciated 💕
I understand what you are saying and I always support that everyone is entitled to their opinions. I think that the way you just explained that first ask I've received makes it appear much much clearer, if those were their intentions, of course - and I absolutely agree with what you are saying lmao Stella did need to get a good "wake up, gurl" kinda situation :')
Anissa is literally an angel, I love her. I wish I could give her a bigger role because she deserves to be the queen of england if you ask me
Greg deserves to rot in hell :') we aren't done
And about Max and Stella 🥲 let us all pray AAHAHAHAH they are a lost cause
Again, thank you for taking the time to leave me an ask 💕
I'm currently in the process of writing ch 4 :') which is kicking my ass so it might take some more time, wish me good luck - hopefully I'll get to the result I want from it

Cursed House
Chapter 2 Seeing.
(A week later)
Tina was heading into town with a list of groceries in her hand. Her mother asked her to go out into town and get some food for the house as they were running out. As she was walking she bumped into someone, she looked up and saw that it was Alex.
"Oh hey Alex how are you doing?" Tina asked.
"I'm doing fine, I just came out to do some clothes shopping with my friends." Alex explained.
"Oh okay, I'm just out getting some food. My mom would've done this, but she and my dad are busy setting up the new house." Tina explained.
"Ah I understand that place is really big so you all might be busy with that for a while." Alex explained.
"Yeah... I'm still surprised they got it at such a cheap price." Tina explained.
"Well for as long as I've been living here you'd know why it's so cheap." Alex said.
"Why's that?" Tina asked curiously what he meant.
"It's because anyone who moved into that house resold it a few months after." Tina heard a girl say from behind Alex. Just then two girls emerged from behind Alex.
One of them was as tall as Alex but an inch taller. She had long blond hair that was dyed light blue half way up at the ends. She was wearing a light blue tank top and a blue plad colored long skirt. She had a few bags in her arms and was wearing cyan sunglasses as it was pretty bright outside today.
The other girl was a bit shorter than Alex; she went up to the halfway point of his chest. She had a cute baby face, had a bit of weight on her, but in a cute small girl way her hair was cut into a small bob, and it was brown with a bit of pink dyed at the bottom. She was wearing magenta overalls that flowed down into a skirt at the bottom. She was also wearing a pink shirt underneath and rose colored shoes. She too was wearing sunglasses but they were pink and the lenses were heart shaped.
"Hello I'm Tambrey and this little pink girl here is my friend Anissa." Tambrey explained.
"Oh hello I'm Tina it's nice to meet you both." Tina explained.
"It's nice to meet you as well Tina! I was hoping we'd meet you soon! Before your family ended up moving away like all the other families who ever lived in that house." Anissa explained sadly.
"Wow wow back up! What are you talking about? Why would my family move out of the house we just bought?" Tina asked.
"It's better for us to explain in a more private place, like the park. Why don't we help you out with your shopping and we can talk about your house's history with some ice cream." Tambrey explained.
"Um... okay I'm not getting much anyway, just some cheap microwavable foods till my parents have the money for proper ingredients for meals." Tina explained.
"Understandable, moving to a whole new town isn't cheap, it's pretty expensive, I should know my mom works in that kind of field with families moving." Anissa explained.
"Okay well thanks for offering to help." Tina said as she, Alex, Tambrey, and Anissa all went into the store.
Tina went into the frozen meals section and grabbed easy ready made meals that both she and her parents would eat. Alex meanwhile grabbed some fruits so Tina and her family could have some proper healthy things to eat. Anissa got some sweets that she saw were on sale, she thought that Tina and her parents would like to have some sweets, and she also wanted some herself. Tambrey meanwhile was just browsing through some items in the store, till she noticed something that piqued her interest.
"Hey guys, come over here I found something I think you all will like!" Tambrey called out.
The others all came over to where they heard Tambrey and saw her standing next to a pride stand that was selling different pride flags and badges.
"Ohh! I love pride!! Do they have any Polysexual flags or badges?" Anissa asked.
"Yeah and hey they have some transgender ones for me." Tambrey said.
"I don't know, I'm just hoping they have one for me." Alex said.
Tina went up to the stand and looked around for a badge for her, but she didn't want them to see the badge she would pick up. Tina saw Alex picking up a badge and a flag that represented gender fluid. He put the badge on and smiled with it on. Tina just looked back at the counter and soon she found what she was looking for.
A non-binary badge she smiled as Tina was non-binary, she or they never always felt like they were a full girl or even a boy. So they looked around the internet for answers on why they felt that way and they found non-binary.
After that Tina understood themselves much better, while they did like she/her pronouns they/them were their preferred pronouns. However they still didn't come out to their parents yet as Tina was scared of how they would react towards their gender identity so they kept quiet.
"Hey Tina you good?" Alex asked.
"Um... yeah I'm fine." Tina excused.
"Okay well let's wrap this up and head out for ice cream!" Anissa exclaimed excitedly.
Once they were done with their shopping the four went up to the counter to pay for their items. As they were paying Tina looked around and saw a woman, a child, and a man standing around some pudding samples.
"Mommy, what kind of pudding did Daddy like?" The child asked.
Tina was confused by this as they could see the possible father standing right behind the child. So they wondered why the child was asking his mother and not his father.
"Oh sweetie your father always liked the chestnut pudding, whenever we had it both him and your uncle would fight over the last one left hehe, it was so funny." The woman said.
"Hehe yeah I remember that, oh how I wish I could relive those days again." The man said.
Tina then noticed a gold and white glowing aura around the man as he smiled down on the child and the woman. He then went up to the two of them and embraced them in a hug as they grabbed some chestnut pudding.
"Hey Tina you good?" Alex asked.
"Huh?? Oh Yeah I'm good just noticed a strange aura around the father of that family over there." Tina explained.
Alex looked over to where Tina was pointing and his face turned to confusion as all he saw was the mother and child but no father.
"Tina, what are you talking about? It's just the mother and kid. I don't see any father." Alex explained.
Tina looked back and the man was now looking at her with a shocked look on his face. He then walked, or floated up to her and made direct eye contact with her.
"Can you see me?" The man then asked, sounding shocked.
Tine not knowing what to do just nodded giving the man his answer. He smiled as no one else could see aside from Tina apparently. The mother and child then started walking away so the man followed them, but not before waving goodbye to Tina. Tina just lightly waved back before going back to the counter to pay for her items.
(Later)
Tina and her new friends were sitting in the park with icecreams in their hands. Tina was looking around for any other stage looking people. Thankfully Tina didn't see anyone with strange auras around her and she's kinda glad as what happened in the store freaked her out.
"So What were you all talking about earlier related to my family's new home?" Tina asked.
"Well whenever any family moved into that house, they would say that strange things would happen to them inside. Later on they would move out and wouldn't tell anyone why they were leaving." Tambrey explained.
"That's very odd." Tina said.
"Yeah some folks around here even started betting on who would stay forever or if they would once again move out." Anissa explained.
"Hm well knowing my parents they wont leave this new home that easily." Tina explained.
"Well only time will tell... hey I gotta go now my mom is going to need me home soon to care for the house as her and dad are going out." Alex explained.
"Okay I need to head home too, I'm working on a bit of a summer project." Tambrey explained.
"Same here but I just want to go home to take a nap." Anissa said.
"I just need to help out with more unpacking and organizing the house." Tina said.
"Well I guess we'll all see each other around, later guys." Alex said before getting up and heading home with his ice cream.
The other girls all said their farewells and headed back home. As Tina walked home they started noticing other people with strange gold and white auras around them. However no one else seemed to be able to see them but them which made them kinda scared.
"Ahh young child, looks like you're the new girl who moved into town, am I correct?" Tina heard a calm old voice say.
They looked over and saw an old woman in strange clothing sitting in a tiny shop, with a crystal ball on the counter in front of her.
"Um yes that's me who are you?" Tina asked curiously.
"I'm Azula and I'm the psychic in town, if you want I can read you your future and see if you have any special abilities." Azula explained.
"Hmm sure why not I've got nothing better to do aside from unpacking." Tina said as they sat down and gave Azula her hand.
"Now child, let's see what your future holds... hmm I see you'll make wonderful friends here, Oh and what's this? Your third eye has fully awaken and from what I can see, you're now able to see ghosts like me, oh how wonderful!" Azula exclaimed, happy for Tina.
'So is that why I've been seeing people with strange auras around them? Their ghosts, that would explain what happened back at the store.' Tina thought to themselves.
"Now let's see what else the future holds for you." Azula said as she read Tina's palm again.
As she did her face turned from curiosity and excitement to seemingly dread and fear. When Tina saw that they got concerned and scared as to what Azula was seeing.
"Oh dear that's not good, oh no my dear you're in very grave danger!" Azula exclaimed with worry.
"Why am I in danger?" Tina asked about concern.
"It's *cough* I-it's *Cough- Cough*" Azula started coughing violently.
It got so bad that she started sputtering up blood which horrified Tina and anyone else who saw it.
"SOMEONE CALL AN AMBULANCE!" A person in the crowd screams in a panic.
Tina meanwhile didn't know what to do as Azula started coughing more and more blood came out as she did so.
"Miss I need you to step aside, I'm a doctor so let me help until the ambulance arrives!" A man said.
Tina did what he said and got up to let him take care of Azula till an ambulance could arrive at the scene. After five minutes an ambulance arrived and Azula was loaded onto it. Tina, horrified by what just happened, decided to head straight home and not get distracted by anyone or anything else.
(Later)
Tina arrived home and when they went in they were greeted by their parents. They were still a bit shaken by what happened in town but hid it pretty well.
"Hey Tina you were out for a while, is everything alright?" Angelico asked.
"Yeah, just meet some of the kids in the neighborhood." Tina explained.
"Well isn't that wonderful! Hey Tina we have some boxes that we need you to take upstairs to the attic think you can do that?" Angelica asked.
"Sure I'll just leave the groceries here for you and dad to take care of while I deal with the box's." Tina said as she put the bags down and took off to take care of the box's.
However Tina made sure to take the non-binary badge with them so their parents won't become suspicious. Once Tina was upstairs they saw the box's their parents were telling them about.
"*sigh* Let's get this over with." Tina said as they started collecting the box's and bringing them up to the attic.
When Tina got up to the attic with the first box they couldn't help but feel like someone was watching them. They shrugged and placed the box's in the old dusty attic that was filled with cobwebs. Tina looked around and found a clearing that was enough for the box's.
The attic had many old items in it, some of them were rather normal items from the olden days when their grandma was a child and some rather strange items. Tina placed the box down and went back down to continue getting more and more box's. After a while they were done with the task they were about to go down stairs and to their room when a book caught their attention.
They saw a book that said maledicta et carmina on its front cover, Tina was a bit confused by the title as they couldn't understand what it meant.
"Strange, I wonder what language it is?" Tina asked as they took the book and blew some dust off it.
"Hmm, maybe one of my old friends knows what it is." Tina said to themselves.
They went down the ladder and back to their room, not even noticing the dark looming figure watching them from the shadows.
(Later that night)
Tina was in their room looking through the internet on their laptop when they heard their mom calling out for them.
"Tina dear, I need you to take out the trash for me real quick!" Angelica called out.
"Okay mom, be there in a sec!" Tina called out.
They then went down stairs and saw the trash their mother wanted them to take outside.
"Hey Dear you'd like any of the frozen dinners you brought home?" Angelico asked.
"No thanks dad, I'm not hungry right now, maybe later." Tina replied.
"Okay if you change your mind just go one and take one." Angelico said as he took one of the dinners and heated it up.
Tina just smiled before going back to a neutral look and heading out to take the trash out. Tina picked up the bag before heading out the door and going to the trash can outside near the sidewalk. It was rather dark out and there was no one on the streets. Tina walked up to the old trashcan and threw the bag in and placed the lid right back on the can.
When they looked up they were horrified by what they saw standing in front of them. Standing right infront of Tina was a large ghost with a black and blue aura around it. It had a deformed face with no eyes, its mouth wide open revealing it barely had any teeth that were black and yellow.
It leaned down to Tina and asked in a ghastly haunting voice "Can you see me?"
Tina, terrified by the ghost, decided to pretend she couldn't see it and act normal as they felt like something bad would happen if it knew they could see it. So with a straight face Tina turned around and walked back to her house. The ghost then left upon seeing this disappointed thinking that Tina couldn't see it.
When Tina got back inside they let out a sigh of relief as they now felt safe now. They started wondering why the spirit had that aura around them when all the other ghosts they saw had nicer holy auras around them.
"Tina, are you alright you look spooked?" Angelica asked, worried about her child.
"Y-yeah I'm fine it's just dark outside right now and I thought I saw something." Tina lied.
"Okay well as long as you're alright that's all that matters." Angelica said before resuming what she was doing.
Tina sighed and went back upstairs to her room to change into their pajamas like they always do at 9 Pm. When Tina got to their room they once again saw the same blanket from the previous night laying on their bed once again.
"What the? Why is this here again?" Tina asked themselves.
Just then Tina then heard a ghostly voice of a young frail boy say "It'll protect you from him for now during the night."
Tina turned around and saw a ghostly boy with the same aura as the one she saw outside. This one looked like a young boy no older than eleven years old, he was looking down avoiding eye contact with them.
The boy was wearing what looked to be old fashion clothing, similar to what her grandmother would have worn when she was a child, possibly even older. The boy looked very skinny and frail as he hadn't eaten anything for a long time, their was also a hole in his chest where his heart was meant to be. Along with that Tina noticed that his entire right leg was sliced off and black ghostly blood was dripping from it.
Tina, scared again, just pretended that they didn't see it and turned back to her bed, only to be met with another ghost. This time it was a tall man who also wore old fashioned clothes.
However Tina noticed that there was a rope tied around the man's neck and his fingers were bloody and raw like he tried to get something off. The ghost then leaned down to Tina's height and they were able to see its lifeless eyes.
It then said "Leave now! We know you can see us so, unless you want your soul to be cursed and be trapped here with us. We won't allow him to have his final sacrifice and accomplish his evil goals, so get out NOW!"
The ghost then left the room leaving Tina alone with the ghost boy and now terrified for her safety.
"Don't worry about him, he won't hurt you. Like me he's been trapped here for a long time, but he is right, the big scary man will use you as his last sacrifice and you'll end up being trapped here like the rest of us. It'll be better off if you and your family all leave not just this house but this town all together. It's all cursed by him!" The ghost boy said before he left as well.
Once they were gone Tina collapsed to the ground with fear coursing through their veins. They could feel their heart racing as they didn't know what the ghosts meant but they felt like it wasn't good in the slightest. Tina however managed to compose themselves and started changing into their black summertime pajamas with ghosts decorating the cloth.
Once they were done changing Tina went into the bathroom to brush their teeth and wash their face. However she was cautious while going through the house as the two encounters with the ghosts scared the daylight out of them.
When they got to the bathroom door they were cautious when opening it. However they wanted to finish their nightly routine before going back to their room to watch something and go to bed. So Tina just swiftly opened the door and turned on the bathroom light. When they did they didn't see anyone in the bathroom much to their relief.
Tina sighed before going into the bathroom and finishing their nightly routine. Tina first started brushing their teeth so they got out her black electric toothbrush that had ghosts decorating it as well. They then got some toothpaste out, put it on the toothbrush and began brushing their teeth.
After they were done they raised their mouth and tooth brush off before starting to wash their face. As they were washing their faces Tina couldn't help but feel like there was someone behind them.
So when they looked up to see if there was someone behind them they were horrified to see a girl with long black hair standing behind them. The girl had the same ghostly aura as the previous two did and she looked like she was totally soaked in water.
"Please leave, if you stay he'll kill you, his spirit still remains in these walls, there's only so much we can do for you but for your own sake leave now!" The ghost girl said with worry in her voice before leaving the bathroom.
Tina was once again terrified but confused by what they meant, however they just hurried up and finished washing their faces before leaving the bathroom. Tina went back to their bedroom and laid down on their bed before getting their laptop out and scrolling through videos to watch.
Tina soon came across a horror film and was about to click on it, however thinking about the current encounters they had with the ghosts they decided to play an action movie. Tina then scrolled again till they came across what they wanted and started watching the movie.
However what the ghosts said to them was very confusing and they couldn't help but wonder what they meant by what they were talking about.

Shortstop in softball

“It’s been a nightmare trying to find stories to write about, especially when everyone was home with Zoom classes,’’ Garcia said. In college, she would like to major in a science or continue her writing career that includes being a news editor on the school newspaper, the Iliad. Garcia may be trying to return the luster to Poway softball right now, but she is also keeping her eyes focused on the future. “Fortunately, no one has a video of that,’’ Garcia said, chuckling about the play. She rolled her ankle on the bag and summersaulted past the bag into the outfield. Her final step to the bag, though, was not normal. Even her funniest softball moment was like that.Īs a 12-year-old playing in a travel ball game in Utah, Garcia hit a ground ball to shortstop and took off running to first base. Garcia can just move on from disappointment to the next play. “I can confirm that most teams we played last year knew we were down and a lot of teams this year assumed we are still down.’’ “We went right back and are playing teams that humbled us last year. “I couldn’t have taken another year last year,’’ Garcia said. Not even having a losing season like last year. “When I told her about the move, she took a ton of grounders from her club coach after practices and her dad did the same thing. “Miah was tremendous at third base considering she played second the year before and outfield for her travel team,’’ Bennet said. Moving Garcia to shortstop last summer was just one of the steps Poway coach Jim Bennet took hoping to return to the Titans’ winning ways. Thus far this season, the Titans already have more wins at 9-2-1 overall. We hit rock bottom, but we came into this season looking to return to normal.’’ “Just going to practice was difficult because we knew couldn’t compete with most other teams. Poway finished 2-8 in the Palomar League and 5-24 overall.
#Shortstop in softball full#
In 2021, the Titans played a full season again, but with 10 seniors graduating during the COVID-shortened season there was not much leadership left.Īnd because of Poway’s always difficult schedule, the outcome was predictable. Shortstop is a magnet for the ball, you have to communicate and you have to be loud because everyone is looking at you.’’ “Moving from third to short is a big deal because everything is different as the shortstop. “I liked playing third because I had my own base to own. 400 with five extra base hits and 12 RBIs. “Poway High is known for producing (Division I college) shortstops,’’ said Garcia, who is hitting. You only get to do this once, and I won’t be taking it for granted.”īe sure to follow along as Anissa heads to Tokyo by following her Instagram You can design your very own custom just like Anissa over at understands what it means to play shortstop at Poway. I want my legacy to be that I gave it everything I had, 100% fully buying into the system and to my teammates. “The only time you have is now, so you have to fully embrace where you’re at. When the first pitch is thrown, Niss will embrace the moment and be ready to leave her mark. I’m lucky to have two guardian angels watching over me!” She’s a big reason why I love representing Mexico. My grandma is my Mexican blood she was the leader of the pack, bringing her children to the states for a better life. He was like a second dad – supportive, funny, loving and sassy. Urtez lost her grandparents in the past year leading up to the games, but she still keeps them with her in everything she does. That courage and resilience came from a strong tie to family, a legacy that’s been passed down from her father’s parents, both of whom were of Mexican descent.
