What I love about "Tango and Cash" (apart from everything) is that is that perfect cocoction of excess, mayhem, big star power ego, and Hollywood hubris we almost never see anymore. Here's the biggest star on the planet (Stallone) at the top of his fame, teamed up with Kurt Russell, in a script which features cross-dressing and battle tanks, and SHOULD be a wacky buddy cop drama, but neither side is willing to play it too weird, so just play different variations of "maverick cop badass" almost completely straight (ironically); and with all of the money and cocaine available to them: They made art.

This was a really insightful commentary on racial tensions in the BIPOC community, and I loved seeing the dude call out white people's performative activism. It was a good reminder for me to be better. It was also a good review of the Rush Hour franchise and pointed out some things about the franchise that I wasn't aware of in the past. I really no had no idea, though, that the movie isn't well-known among white audiences.

That's sad -- y'all are missing out🤷🏻‍♀️

February 17, 2024. 👍 Streaming on Freevee. The plot was nothing new, and the action sequences were mediocre. However, none of that mattered as this movie was all about the odd-couple/buddy-cop dynamic of the movie's two stars: Ryan Renyolds and Samuel L. Jackson. These two were hilarious together. So good, in fact, they had to make a second one (which I haven't seen yet). Oldman was great in this as well, but his performance is over shadowed.
