December 13th 1585 saw the birth of William Drummond of Hawthornden, the noted Scottish poet.
William Drummond was born at Hawthornden Castle near Edinburgh in 1585, the son of the first Laird of Hawthornden, who was one of King James I’s ushers. He was educated at the Royal High School of Edinburgh and gained an MA at Edinburgh University in 1605. He then spent two years in France studying law.
He succeeded to the title on the death of his father in 1610 and abandoned his law studies in favour of becoming a poet. In 1613 his first poem, Tears on the Death of Meliades, an elegy on the death of Henry, Prince of Wales, was published. This was followed in 1616 by Poems: Amorous, Funerall, Divine, Pastorall, in Sonnets, Songs, Sextains, Madrigals, a lament following the death the previous year of his wife to be. In 1617 he wrote Forth Feasting, a poem celebrating James I’s first visit to Scotland that year, and in 1618 he was visited by the poet Ben Johnson.
In the mid 1620’s he experimented with a number of military inventions, including a primitive machine gun, none of which appear to have been successful. After travels to the continent he settled permanently at Hawthornden and married Elizabeth Logan who bore him nine children, only one of whom outlived him. He started work on a history of Scotland and produced a number of Royalist political pamphlets before his death in 1649.
He was one of the first Scottish poets to write in English and is one of 16 poets and writers whose names appear on the Scott Monument in Edinburgh which include Lord Byron, Robert Burns, and Tobias Smollett. His most important works are The Cypresse Grove, an essay on the folly and the fear of death, and his poems, many of which are adaptations from French, Italian, and Spanish. He was a great collector of scholarly books in Latin, Greek, Hebrew, French, Italian, and English, most of which he bought in France. In 1826 he generously donated a large number of these to Edinburgh University.
Her Passing
The beauty and the life
Of life's and beauty's fairest paragon
—O tears! O grief!—hung at a feeble thread
To which pale Atropos had set her knife;
The soul with many a groan
Had left each outward part,
And now did take his last leave of the heart:
Naught else did want, save death, ev'n to be dead;
When the afflicted band about her bed,
Seeing so fair him come in lips, cheeks, eyes,
Cried, 'Ah! and can Death enter Paradise?'

JR is a fatherless boy growing up in the glow of a bar where the bartender, his Uncle Charlie, is the sharpest and most colorful of an assortment of quirky and demonstrative father figures. As the boy’s determined mother struggles to provide her son with opportunities denied to her — and leave the dilapidated home of her outrageous if begrudgingly supportive father — JR begins to gamely, if not always gracefully, pursue his romantic and professional dreams, with one foot persistently placed in Uncle Charlie’s bar.

Movie Reviews:
r96sk: So very plain.
To be honest: I found ‘The Tender Bar’ to be a bore. I felt like I had seen this film before, such is the predictable and monotonous nature of the story. It almost felt like a (poorer) rerun of 2020’s ‘Hillbilly Elegy‘.
I will say, though, that Ben Affleck gives a very good performance in this, to the point that I actually would’ve liked to have seen a story revolving around him and his character – as opposed to who this 2021 flick is about. Aside from Affleck, I didn’t care for any of the other performances and therefore any of the other characters.
It’s not even a bad film, it’s just so, so boring – for me, anyway.
CinemaSerf: It’s not often I find myself writing this, but Ben Affleck is comfortably the best thing about this otherwise rather lacklustre adaptation of JR Moehringer’s autobiographical coming of age tale. It depicts the story of his childhood – through the eyes of the engaging young Daniel Ranieri – before he heads to Yale in the guise of Tye Sheridan. The first half hour, maybe, is quite entertaining. This young lad living with his mother (his selfish father is estranged from them, living the mobile life of a late night radio talk show host) in the home of his mildly eccentric grandfather (Christopher Lloyd) and their home is a lively, buzzing environment in which the youngster thrives. Chief amongst the residents is his charismatic, worldly-wise uncle “Charlie” (Affleck) who runs a local bar populated with a decent, working-class clientele who take to the young man and encourage his obvious academic talents. That half hour peters out, ...

Netflix’s Film Fam is slated to make an announcement tomorrow. I’ll take a wild guess, but looking at the actors in the vid, we will see trailers or teasers for
THE HARDER THEY FALL starring Idris Elba, Regina King, Jonathan Majors and others.
RED NOTICE with Dwayne Johnson and Gal Gadot.
Zack Snyder’s ARMY OF THE DEAD with John Bautista, Omari Hardwick, Hiroyuki Sanada, Tig Notaro and Ella Purnell.
THE KISSING BOOTH 3 starring Joey King; TO ALL THE BOYS I LOVED BEFORE 3 : ALWAYS AND FOREVER, LARA JEAN with Lana Condor and Noah Centineo. Since EXTRACTION 2 has only been announced, maybe Hemsworth is featured to promote how well the viewership was for the action film.
If that’s the case, I demand inclusion of THE OLD GUARD considering it did as well and it won Best Superhero Film at last night’s Critics Choice Super Awards.
Yes, it’s a real award. Yes, it means as much as a MTV Movie Awards, which is to say it means nothing.
But they did honor Amazon’s THE BOYS, Aya Cash and Antony Starr (2 awards: Best Villain and Best Actor in a Series), so, the voting body has great taste.
Although Amy Adams can be currently seen in the much maligned HILLBILLY ELEGY on Netflix, she is likely included because Netflix will run WOMAN IN THE WINDOW, the last film from the shingle that was Fox 2000.
THUNDER FORCE with Melissa McCarthy and Olivia Spencer.
and YES DAY with Jennifer Garner and Edgar Ramirez.
Did Edgar discuss with Jennifer about how his bestie Ana de Armas is dating her ex-husband?
- In non-Netflix movie news: Sony is moving MORBIUS from March 19th to October 8th.
With the Covid-19 vaccine roll-out being slow going, at least in the U.S., there are concerns that theaters will not be able to return to business any time soon. Once again there is talk that BLACK WIDOW will get a Disney+ release with premium access (a’la MULAN) and a theatrical release.
The first major release that is due to roll out is Sony’s CINDERELLA starring Camila Cabello, Idina Menzel and Billy Porter. But with no poster, no teaser or full trailer, this release looks doubtful.
- What I miss about not getting the physical version of the trades is that I’m missing out on the full-page For Your Consideration ads. Cheaper for the studios, yes, but these banner and sidebar ads just don’t cut it.
Like these for Bleeker Street’s SUPERNOVA starring Colin Firth and Stanley Tucci.
The Hollywood Foreign Press is trying to clean up its image as a bunch of sycophantic star f*ckers posing as journalists, so they’re putting their feet down and are trying to quell category fraud. They have forced Bleeker Street to take Tucci out of Supporting and run him alongside Firth in Lead.
Tucci, drinking it up, with his wife Felicity and his in-laws Emily Blunt and John Kasinski.
The opposite, happened for the cast of Regina King’s ONE NIGHT IN MIAMI. Kingsley Ben-Adir and Eli Goree wanted to campaign as leads with Leslie Odom Jr. and Aldis Hodge in Supporting. But the HPFA denied the request and will have them all run in Supporting.

WORST MOVIES OF 2020
1. Angry Asian Murder Hornets
Director: Dustin Ferguson
Cast: Clint Beaver, Jarad Allen, Elizabeth Barstow
Critic’s Notes: There have been many cheap COVID-exploitation movies that popped out last year. And this is perhaps the worst since its less-than-80-minutes running time is filled with disconnected old trailers and ads.
2. Artemis Fowl
Director: Kenneth Branagh
Cast: Ferdia Shaw, Lara McDonnell, Josh Gad, Tamara Smart, Nonso Anozie. Colin Farrell, Judi Dench
Critic’s Notes: Eion Colfer’s YA series is an intriguing antihero’s journey. So, of course, Disney butchered its adaptation with a hastily packaged fantasy that diluted Artemis’ menacing personality and failed capturing its “Die Hard with fairies” setup.
3. Bobbleheads The Movie
Director: Kirk Wise
Cast: Cher, Jennifer Coolidge, Hala Finley, Karen Fukuhara, Khary Payton, Julian Sands, Brenda Song, Luke Wilson
Critic’s Notes: From the producers of Foodfight. It is what you expect. But this is more painful to watch, as it contains the most nightmare-inducing final dance scene in an animated movie.
4. Dolittle
Director: Stephen Gaghan
Cast: Robert Downey Jr., Antonio Banderas, Michael Sheen, Emma Thompson, Rami Malek, John Cena, Kumail Nanjiani, Octavia Spencer, Tom Holland, Craig Robinson, Ralph Fiennes, Selena Gomez, Marion Cotillard, Jason Mantzoukas
Critic’s Notes: With cast and prestige like that, one can expect a true Oscar caliber. However, it is in a family adventure bomb with an embarrassed Downey Jr. phoning it in.
5. Fantasy Island
Director: Jeff Wadlow
Cast: Michael Peña, Maggie Q, Lucy Hale, Austin Stowell, Jimmy O. Yang, Ryan Hansen, Portia Doubleday, Michael Rooker
Critic’s Notes: Blumhouse’s take on the classic Ricardo Montalban TV series does not bear its charm or subtleties. Instead, expect a snore-worthy version of Truth Or Dare.
6. Force of Nature
Director: Michael Polish
Cast: Emile Hirsch, Kate Bosworth, Mel Gibson, David Zayas, Stephanie Cayo
Critic’s Notes: Force of Nature makes The Hurricane Heist look like The Impossible. And the presence of one Mel Gibson makes it a droning sit.
7. Homeward
Director: Michael Johnson
Cast: Joey Lawrence, James Cullen Bressack, Kim Little, D.C. Douglas, Dylan Vox, Jamey Rimawi, Tom Green
Critic’s Notes: Of course, The Asylum is active in bringing mockbusters. And out of their animated rip-offs, Homeward bears the most egregious resemblance to its superior source, Onward.
8. Songbird
Director: Adam Mason
Cast: KJ Apa, Sofia Carson, Craig Robinson, Bradley Whitford, Peter Stormare, Alexandra Daddario, Paul Walter Hauser, Demi Moore
Critic’s Notes: This is Michael Bay’s COVID-exploitation movie. So, it obviously contains numbing action scenes and tedious subplots in-between. Plus, given the situation, Songbird is tasteless.
9. The Last Days of American Crime
Director: Olivier Megaton
Cast: Édgar Ramírez, Michael Pitt, Anna Brewster, Patrick Bergin, Sharlto Copley
Critic’s Notes: There have been many movies last year that were released in bad timing. This actioner that glorifies its lawless violence is one of them. And it is best left rotting.
10. The Last Thing He Wanted
Director: Dee Rees
Cast: Anne Hathaway, Ben Affleck, Rosie Perez, Edi Gathegi, Mel Rodriguez. Toby Jones, Willem Dafoe
Critic’s Notes: A pure disappointment, given the huge talent on and behind the camera, The Last Thing He Wanted adapted an enriching source material about journalism and does nothing with it. Ironically, the title is enough a sign.
Dishonorable Mentions: Christmas in the Rockies, Come Away, A Fall From Grace, Hillbilly Elegy, Wild Mountain Thyme

BOOTYLEGS (updated nov 22 2021)
Hello! Here’s a list of my bootlegs. They are all video, the ones which are audio are specified.
If there’s only the title of the show then I don’t know which cast it is (sorry).
I’m willing to gift these but trading is appreciated!
If I gift you a bootleg PLEASE consider donating something to my Ko-Fi, I’m putting away some money for University, and your donation no matter how small can really help me out!
If we are trading send me your list and I would appreciate it if you sent your bootleg first.
If you want any of these MESSAGE ME, also be nice, i won’t give you anything if you are rude so please keep that in mind.
I might not always be able to answer, so just wait, if more than 2 days pass write again.
PLEASE be specific about the bootlegs you want.
*All shows starting with “the” are under the letter T*
Thank you :)

Some poets have taught how important it is to render a special tribute to the loved ones. The elegy, which was written by Ben Johnson for his son, P.B.Shelley for Keats and by John Milton for the memory of Edward King, has gained importance to date. The way the poets drafted their feelings for their loved ones is a thing to be appreciated, today and forever.
Yes, you may not be the next Shelley or Johnson and write an elegy for the departed soul, but you can be just YOU, and make your ways to tribute your loved ones or if needed you can choose the offered funeral service in Melbourne.

So Luke and Rey ( Ruke) thingy exists... I guess we were totally wrong regarding TLJ movie influences :p I guess The Last Jedi will be like the movie "Elegy" with Ben Kinglsey and Penelope Cruz, a story about an uni professor who gets it on with a much much younger student... It will be a dark sexual drama. Rian Johnson really tricked us this time with those other titles, they were a distraction from the real "meat" of the story haha *insert smug looking pepe*
Haha, maybe we were actually being teased about a torrid inter-generational love affair with this quote from USA Today:
How Rey and Luke relate to each other is the key relationship in Episode VIII.
