Angeal agrees to help Zack host a dinner party
The Dinner Party From Hell
• It starts when Zack moves apartments, and decides to celebrate by hosting a dinner party. Since Angeal is known to host cozy gatherings at his place, he agrees to help.
• Sephiroth, Genesis, and Cloud help too. Angeal will come to regret this decision greatly.
*Before the party*
Angeal: Does everyone understand their roles tonight?
Zack: Yup! I'm gonna be the best host ever and talk to everyone.
Cloud: I'll be around serving food.
Sephiroth: And I'll be socializing with the specific intent to boost Zack's image and make him look good.
Angeal: Great. And I'll be around making sure everything's running smoothly.
Zack: Where's Genesis?
Angeal: Since I have to make sure the dinner party goes well, I've placed him in charge of the kitchen and the cooking. He's the only other one who knows how to cook.
Sephiroth: And you believe that was a wise decision?
Angeal: No, which is why I'll be taking breaks every twenty minutes to retake my anti-anxiety medication.
*Kunsel walks out of the kitchen*
Kunsel: Genesis is requesting sixteen wheels of cheese and a sterilized needle.
Angeal: I decided I will also be smoking.
Cloud: Cigarettes?
Angeal: No.
Cloud:
Tumblr media
• The guests begin to arrive, and Sephiroth, true to his word, starts mingling. He approaches Reeve first.
Reeve: Oh hey, Sephiroth! Are you having a good time?
Sephiroth: Zack once swam the entire Meridian ocean between Junon and Wutai, showcasing his skill, strength and resilience.
Reeve:
Sephiroth:
Reeve: I don't think that's very possible.
Sephiroth: It is for Zack Fair. He didn’t even use his arms.
Reeve: His legs then?
Sephiroth: No. His mind.
*Reeve chokes on his drink, Angeal pulls Sephiroth aside*
Angeal: What are you doing?? I thought I told you to socialize and make Zack look good.
Sephiroth: Defying the laws of human biology with sheer mental fortitude to cross the ocean makes someone look incredible, in my opinion.
*Kunsel appears and taps Angeal on the shoulder*
Kunsel: Genesis is requesting a chainsaw and a crate of watermelons.
Angeal: Why does he need a chainsaw?
*Kunsel slaps Angeal*
Angeal, holding his cheek: !?
Kunsel: He told me to slap you and say "don't you dare presume to question my culinary expertise" if you asked.
Angeal:
Sephiroth: Zack Fair could part a watermelon with the sheer power of his mind.
Kunsel: Nice.
*Angeal, trembling, takes out his medication*
• Meanwhile Cloud has begun his duties as server, cautiously carrying trays of hors d'oeuvres through the crowd.
*Sephiroth is sitting next to Tseng and Reno at the dinner table when suddenly Cloud bumps into Tseng's chair and spills a wine glass on his lap*
Cloud: Tseng! I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to do that!
Tseng: It's fine, cadet. Accidents happen.
Cloud: I'll go get a towel! *he runs off*
Sephiroth: Did you know Zack once fought off an entire army with a single orb of materia.
Reno: Just the one orb? Bullshit.
Sephiroth: Oh but he never cast it. He just threw it at them. The sheer force of his throw decimated their ranks, thus proving how powerful Zack Fair is.
Tseng: I find that hard to believe.
*Cloud appears again and accidentally spills an entire platter of pasta onto Tseng's lap*
Cloud: SORRY AGAIN! I DIDN'T MEAN TO!
Tseng:
Sephiroth: Consider that karma for doubting Zack Fair's capabilities.
• Meanwhile, Zack's hosting duties are going well. He's bouncing between guests, sharing stories, and making sure everyone feels welcome.
*Zack is talking to Cissnei and Reno*
Cissnei: Hey this apple cider tastes great. Who made it?
Zack: I'm pretty sure it was Genesis. Word is he's in charge of the kitchen.
Reno: That's different. I didn't even know Rhapsodos could cook.
Sephiroth, appearing out of nowhere: Did you know Zack once survived an entire night in the Northern Crater without any protective gear?
Reno: Let me guess. He used his mind to stay warm.
Sephiroth: No, he simply convinced the elements to leave him alone using his charm and charisma.
Zack: What? I had no idea I could do that!
Sephiroth: You're a force to be reckoned with.
Zack: :)
Angeal, overhearing: Sephiroth! Stop lying to people about Zack's conquests! He can't even open the fridge without shivering, you expect people to believe he survived in the north!?
Zack: >:(
*Kunsel comes up to Angeal and taps him on the shoulder*
Kunsel: Genesis is requesting a live trout and a thirty-eight thousand pounds of garlic.
Angeal: What on Gaia is this man planning to do with thirty-eight thousand pounds of garlic??
*Kunsel swings at Angeal but he ducks*
Angeal: LEAVE.
• Meanwhile, Cloud's career as a waiter continues to flourish.
*Cloud accidentally bumps into Tseng and spills soup on him*
Cloud: Oh! I'm such a klutz! I'll go get a towel!
*Cloud leaves, Zack rushes up to aid Tseng*
Zack: Man, that sucks. The soup isn't hot, is it?
Tseng: Surprisingly, it's cold. I have Genesis' poor cooking to thank for that.
*Cloud comes back and accidentally spills more wine on Tseng*
Cloud: Oh my gosh!
Tseng: WHERE'S THE TOWEL?
Tumblr media
*Sephiroth approaches Lazard*
Sephiroth: Zack Fair is secretly the president of Shinra.
Lazard:
Sephiroth: He's the undercover mastermind behind all of this, an impressive feat for someone his age. This highlights both his competence and exceptional work ethic, further proving just how incredible Zack is
*Lazard feels his forehead to check if he's feverish*
Sephiroth: ?
Lazard: I worry about you sometimes, Sephiroth.
*Angeal walks by*
Angeal: More lies??
Sephiroth: I'm only doing the task you've set for me.
Angeal: Yeah, but—
*Kunsel taps him on the shoulder*
Kunsel: Genesis is requesting powdered bananas, thyme jelly, and a vat of chocobo fat.
*Angeal removes his shoe to throw it at Kunsel but Kunsel runs away first*
Angeal: COME BACK HERE *he runs after him*
*Sephiroth notices Lazard set his drink down and grab his coat*
Sephiroth: You're leaving?
Lazard: If there are drugs in the food, I want no part in the investigation
Sephiroth: Zack Fair conducted the investigation that lead to the discovery of harnessing Mako for energy.
Lazard: I promise you he did not.
• Cloud’s serving duties are going absolutely flawlessly. Every plate he balances is balanced effortlessly in his hands as he weaves through the crowd.
*Cloud accidentally trips and sends an entire platter of lasagna soaring through the air. It hits Tseng on the back of the head, knocking him out*
Cloud: Oh my god! I killed him!
*Angeal, Zack, Sephiroth and everyone else gather around to aid Tseng*
Angeal: This is bad! Cloud, go get the medical kit in the kitchen!
Cloud, nodding: I'll go get a towel!
Angeal: !?
Zack: Guys, he's not breathing!
Sephiroth: Zack Fair would never die in such a pathetic manner.
Angeal: Enough! Guys, focus, we need to help—
*Kunsel taps him on the shoulder*
Kunsel: Genesis is requesting an industrial concrete mixer.
Angeal: WHAT THE HELL IS THIS MAN COOKING!??
*Tseng wakes up*
Tseng: Everyone, please, calm down. I'm fine. Accidents happen.
*Cloud comes back and accidentally spills an entire jar of sauce on Tseng*
Tseng: THAT'S IT!
*Tseng flies at him. Cloud shrieks and takes off with Tseng chasing him around the apartment as people watch on in horror. Genesis chooses now, of all times, to appear*
Genesis: How's the food?
Angeal: Hey! HEY! What are you cooking that has Kunsel coming up to me every ten minutes requesting weird stuff?? What even is thyme jelly??
Sephiroth: That reminds me of the time Zack boosted morale among our ranks during a training session. He said it was 'thyme' to get started, using his witty humor and shining charisma to inspire joy.
*They ignore him*
Genesis: I haven't cooked a single dish all night.
Angeal: WHAT?
Genesis: I placed a catering order last week. I've been reading in the kitchen all night.
*Angeal flies at Genesis and also starts chasing him around the party*
Zack, watching Tseng chase Cloud and Angeal chase Genesis: Man, this dinner party ended up being a disaster. I shouldn't have even planned this stupid thing!
Sephiroth, on auto pilot: Zack Fair can move objects with his mind.
Zack: Nice! I had no idea I could do that.
Sephiroth: You’re amazing.
Zack: :)

So I know that the address of Nick Fuentes is being posted around (I’m keeping it off of this post to prevent possible removal, but it’s all over if you look his name up on Tumblr). It appears that Google is censoring anything related to that specific address. It’s blurred out on Google Maps (though there are pictures uploaded right next to it), and the only search results I got were real estate listings.
This is your friendly reminder that Big Tech is not your friend and they will comply with the oppressors. I know it’s not the most ideal solution, but if you’re concerned about privacy and security in the upcoming years, look into alternate services for your daily online life. Proton Mail is a great service for email, and they offer other things like VPN and cloud storage. I pay for a business account (about $15 US a month) because I use extra email addresses and personal domain names, but there are cheaper or free plans available.
You can also replace most of the online tools that Google, Apple, and Microsoft provide with third party or self-hosted services like Nextcloud. I’m tech enough that I set up my own private server with Nextcloud, so I’m in control of the flow and location of my data. If you have tech inclined friends, you could discuss setting up a shared server, or look into alternate solutions.
Our digital footprints are becoming a commodity which can be sold to the highest bidder or used to train data models. While it isn’t always feasible, I urge you all to look into alternatives and make whatever changes fit your life the best. While it’s not always feasible to entirely get rid of Google, Microsoft, Apple, and/or Amazon from our lives, we can take steps to minimize what they can collect from us.

The moon that peeks through the clouds of the London sky resembles the curved edge of a dagger on this cold, foreboding night. Diana fiddles with the rosary that hangs around her neck — silver, a gift from her mother just a couple of months before her untimely death. She'd used it to pray for her soul. A rosary is only meant to be carried in devotion and with respect. It's meant to aid you in your prayer and allow you to meditate on the Mysteries.
Diana has not prayed in two years.
The humming of the short butler drifts closer and she hides the trinket under her shirt, pressing herself up against the tree by the path in the garden. The light of the party does not reach this place. She waits as the steps draw near on the gravel path, and just as he turns the corner Diana quickly wraps her arm around his throat, and shoves a cloth into his mouth before she squeezes as hard as she can.
The man's gags resound by her ears and blunt nails try to dig into her skin. Diana wraps her legs around him as the man flails, and keeps squeezing until the fight goes out of him. She's sweating by the time he grows limp in her arms and almost falls to the ground along with him, but manages to prop herself against the tree in the last minute. The sleeve of her shirt rips against the bark and there's a sting on her skin — a small price to pay to keep the man's clothes clean.
She allows herself a moment to look up at the sky and gather her breathing, before she's scrambling to check if the man is still alive. Diana sighs in relief when she feels his pulse, and winces at the unconscious man. Tough luck.
It's a struggle, dragging him further into the garden and tying him up to a tree in a secluded place. His clothes are slightly big on her, but she does her best to pin everything in place neatly. It's another struggle trying to wipe the signs of the scuffle on the initially pristine gravel path and garden. An assortment of beautiful hydrangeas almost glow under the moonlight as she looks towards the party, the ball, the dance. Whatever fancy name these aristocrats prefer.
She doesn't know what she's doing. She just hopes she tied the rope tight enough and that the gag on the man doesn't suffocate him. She also hopes he didn't catch a proper glimpse of her face. Diana is sure the sculptor hosting this gathering could say the forms covered in white cloth that usually come and go from his estate at dusk are merely some of his discarded work, but something in her gut knows better. The beautiful melody of a piano dances in the night, calming her thoughts for a second and she takes a deep breath before moving forward. One way or another, she's going to find out. She just hopes that this time it doesn't lead to a dead end.

building an opensource collection of 'net services
hi there! im mia :) im a computer nerd with too much time on her hands.
im making this post to bring a project of mine into the world; a fully opensource and collaborative collection of online tools. this will grow over time, but for now, there is one thing active and two planned. (read on below)
CalicoDrive
a nextcloud instance! currently offering a bunch of very useful things:
50GB of free cloud storage
a Markdown notetaking tool
a shareable, open calendar
a photo gallery
web bookmark storage, and
some organisation and collaboration tools.
many of the cloud storage services we rely on are corporate, and require exorbitantly priced subscriptions. alongside that, data on them is often subject to a huge array of impenetrable terms/conditions.
what makes this different? firstly, your data is controlled by you. it is entirely encrypted on disk and can only be decrypted with your selected password. you own the data the same way you would were it on an external hard drive or flashstick.
secondly- its free! while you can pay 20$ once off or 5$ a month to upgrade storage quota and support the project, the core of it is entirely and utterly free to use.
matrix.calicocore
(full disclaimer- this service isn't online yet. it's planned to be active within the next month at the very maximum, very likely sooner.)
what's matrix? i am absolutely sure you've heard of IRC- internet relay chat. im also sure you've heard of discord.
matrix is a modern federated chat protocol- if you took the best of IRC, and you took the best of Discord, and combined them into an opensource and *free* protocol for real-time messaging? that's matrix, baby!
matrix functions similarly to the fediverse (more on that later). when you sign up, you select a homeserver, which is the infrastructure your account is hosted on. your homeserver determines who you're federated with, your most easily accessible spaces, and the little tag at the end of your name.
so what's matrix.calicocore going to be? a homeserver! the idea here is to bring communication and community into our hands, and away from the hands of big tech corporations who really don't care about us. it'll be federated with other spaces and servers, and run collectively.
fedi.calicocore
if you've ever used mastodon, fedi.calicocore will be a server compatible with it. this is still in the very very early stages as a project, so i cant detail much, but stay tuned.
things to note, disclaimers, etc
this project is in its early days. i cant guarantee perfect stability, though it has been tested and run for a few days already. please don't expect a perfect replacement for existing services YET.
secondly, in regards to calicodrive; your data is fully encrypted in two ways, both within the nextcloud instance and on the physical spinning rust. this means if you majorly forget your password, there's a possibility of losing it- but that trade-off is worth it for the security.
this all sounds great! how can i sign up?
for now, this is the link to the nextcloud:
https://drive.calicocore.space
in the very near future, there'll be a central discussion space on the matrix, too, which you're encouraged to introduce yourself on!
lastly:
who is this for?
these services and tools are made by a disabled trans woman. they will prioritise people vulnerable on the current internet, and focus on building a safe space for trans, non-binary, and queer people; as well as disabled people and people of colour.
you can sign up if you are not one of these, however you will be expected to defer to the marginalised members and be generally respectful of the purpose of the space!

I've been thinking long and hard about the BDS Microsoft Boycott call. The request focused on Microsoft Games, on the basis that, in theory, that's the easiest part of the Microsoft financial ecosystem for people to disconnect from in order to send a message. This includes pushing people (including parents) to uninstall and get their kids to stop playing Minecraft.
First off, the way the game industry is now, unfortunately, is that game developers or even full divisions of larger companies that underperform - or even just indy developers who self publish and underperform, just get shut down and everyone gets fired. Even if we boycott South of Midnight as part of the BDS movement and clearly communicate that message, what's more likely to happen is the company would be shut down, everyone would be fired, and a bunch of alt-right chuds would ignore the BDS boycott and call this a triumph of "Get Woke, Go Broke". They might even try to co-opt the movement as a half alliance of convenience, half desire to redirect the movement for antisemitic ends, with no actual interest in the plight of the Palestinian people.
There was an opportunity here to point people towards alternatives outside of either abandoning the software entirely, or alternative programs people who want to boycott can use to abandon something that they didn't think they could.
First, and this feels weird to say, Minecraft is something that doesn't have a lot of alternative replacements - it's a sandbox that allows children to indulge their imagination to create large scale ambitious projects that can't be replicated the same way as, for example, Lego, because they take no space in the real world, and thus you have no real world storage concerns, both in terms of space and in terms of risk of damage. The alternative to Minecraft isn't Palworld or Ark Survival Evolved. It's Roblox. And Roblox is also a bunch of dark patterns and sexual predators stacked on top of each other in a trenchcoat.
https://youtu.be/cGAXGroHZKA?si=SNfL_seTHlLTzLh4
https://www.bloomberg.com/features/2024-roblox-pedophile-problem/
Now, on the other hand, Microsoft will happily charge you money to host a Minecraft server through them, and that puts money in the Azure division, the part that is directly aiding and abetting Israeli war crimes. But you don't have to go through Microsoft. You can run your own Minecraft server. Microsoft even tells you how to do it.
https://help.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/articles/360058525452-How-to-Setup-a-Minecraft-Java-Edition-Server
So, cancel your Minecraft Worlds subscription, and roll your own server. You can even set it up so it stays in your network, so your kid's friends have to come over to use it (or so it stays in the family).
Next up - Microsoft pushes OneDrive hard as part of Windows 11. They also pushed it hard on Windows 10. They insist that it's the best and biggest way, and easiest way to backup your data. It's not. There are myriad alternatives, from Google Drive, to Dropbox, to the Apple iCloud (if you use iOS devices). And, OneDrive uses Azure Cloud services to host your data
So, disable OneDrive, and go somewhere else. I've listed several alternatives above, but if you're okay with the backup being on site, you can also build a NAS (Network Attached Storage) server to store files locally. This does have the disadvantage that if something damages your house, your kinda in trouble, though using something like Backblaze on the NAS can make up for that.
Then there's the whole Microsoft 365 suite. Azure is connected to the Microsoft Office part of the business, and they've been incorporating some of those services, like Copilot, into Microsoft 365. So, again, there are alternatives.
LibreOffice has been around for years, is free, and runs locally with no cloud hooks. You can replace Outlook with Thunderbird, or the BetterBird fork.
Finally, there are the hooks to Copilot, which also runs on Azure, which Microsoft runs in the operating system. Turn that shit off.
https://www.tomsguide.com/computing/software/how-disable-copilot-in-windows-11
Also, turn off the Bing websearch hooks as well, as those also connect to Azure.
https://www.howtogeek.com/826967/how-to-disable-bing-in-the-windows-11-start-menu/
Also, if you use DuckDuckGo, that links with Bing for part of their search results, so you may want to switch back to Google or find another search engine in the interim.

What is Web Hosting? Discover Types, Key Factors, & 2024’s 12 Best Web Hosting Platforms.
Web hosting—the physical presence of your website on the internet—is essential for your online business. Without dependable web hosting, you jeopardize your capacity to run your business and meet your consumers’ expectations.
Understanding web hosting and how it works can be difficult, particularly for people who are unfamiliar with the notion. This article will clearly describe web hosting, explain the many types of web hosting plans available, and outline the essential factors to consider when selecting a hosting company.
What is web hosting?
Tumblr media
Web hosting uses internet-facing hardware and software to provide web services to end users. It is where your website and services are stored, processed, and delivered.
At its most fundamental, web hosting consists of secure internet interfaces and communications, computer server hardware and storage, web server software, and content (text, pictures, audio/video).
However, most web hosting solutions also include database servers, content management systems, e-commerce tools, security and authentication, and other applications required for websites to function and remain secure.
The web hosting sector is critical and is expected to increase by more than 20% year between 2024 and 2028.
How much does web hosting cost?
Hosting charges vary, typically based on capabilities. You may pay $10 per month for a simple billboard-style website to market your business online, or much more if you run a successful e-commerce store with thousands of clients.
To successfully select web hosting that works for you, you simply need to understand your goals and how to translate them into hosting requirements.
Types of Web Hosting
Shared hosting.
Dedicated Hosting
VPS (Virtual Private Server) hosting
Cloud hosting

I’ve thought about this article often the last 6 years:
Here’s an NPR interview if you’d rather listen to what Kashmir Hill tried to do:
If we want to limit are how tech companies profit off us we need to limit our interactions with tech companies. we need to change our thinking around how they generate money off of us.
The internet isn’t a magical WiFi cloud connection. It uses literal resources to operate and that has a carbon footprint. From large buildings housing Servers to submarine internet cables spanning our oceans to the water and electricity it takes cooling and running the facilities to the providers that sell the use of the equipment and access in our homes. almost all of these entities are privately owned.
Social media makes most of its money from advertising. Pulling money from small companies and stockpiling it into their own revenue. We are complicit in our actions by being chronically online. Most of us have phone addictions, which works in similar ways to a gambling addiction. Inconsistent reward systems that keep us engaged. Which in turn keeps us also looking at ads even if we do not engage with them. The Cost Per View system of ads generates money for the host websites, and this isn’t even going into how our data being is sold.
I want us to be informed as we navigate this political system of mega tech companies and their influence in world governments. I want us to know how we can efficiently and effectively start to show them we will try our best not engage with them as they attempt to strip us of our rights.
