Bestia's Wrath Chapter 23: At the Ruins of Oricon

After years, Bestia and the Dread Masters confront the rancor in the room.

The devastation wrought upon the face of Oricon was obvious even as the shuttle bearing the Dread Masters disembarked from the underbelly of Deimos, Brontes's flagship.
The shape of the landmass the Dread Palace and its surrounding fortress stood on was changed, large chunks missing and glowing lava filling them. Bestia sighed, dreading the sights to come. She knew Oricon was damaged by Arcann from what Brontes and the others had told her. She'd been debating internally if it was worth it to return. And to make the final decision, she had to confront the scope of destruction herself.
As the shuttle descended, Bestia's heart fell. She could see the scale of destruction more clearly now. The main watchtower lay in complete ruin, its forked crest toppled to the side and shattered. The Dread Fortress complex wasn't much better off, although the shields protected it somewhat before they failed.
The main tower of the Dread Palace, however…
The top of the tower was completely gone. Bestia was surprised the Phobis Device held there had survived the blast to be stolen by Arcann.
She gritted her teeth. Such disrespect. At least they didn't steal her mother's coffin. At least Bestia hoped they didn't, and that the burial site was intact.
The rest of the palace complex was in a similar state to the fortress: ruined but not completely destroyed.
The shuttle circled around the palace as Tyrans looked for a flat and stable spot to land. A grim silence hung among the Dread Masters.
"It looks bad." Tyrans finally rumbled.
"No shit." Bestia said.
Tyrans finally located what was left of one of the landing pads. Bestia was pretty sure it was the same one she and Styrak had used when they returned from Ziost all those years ago. Ironic.
Tyrans carefully landed the shuttle, and a ramp opened with a hiss.
Bestia was first to stand before the exit, followed by Tyrans and Styrak. She hesitated before stepping out onto the ramp.
Familiar Oriconian air hit her, filled with heat and the smell of burning. She glanced over her shoulder, seeing Styrak scowl at the heat.
"Home sweet fucking home." She said grimly.
The landing area was strewn with debris, yet the entrance to the palace proper was untouched. A dead dread guard lay by the archway, mostly buried beneath a pile of rock. Only a portion of the upper body remained visible. Tattered robes clung to bones but the head was still encased in the golden crested mask. Tendrils of Dread Seed poked out of holes in the Dread guard's robes.
Styrak stopped, extended an arm, and debris lifted off the dead guard. He knelt before them, and carefully removed a golden medallion off their neck. Immediately the etched mask disintegrated into fine golden dust that was drawn into the medallion.
Still silent, Styrak carefully lifted the remains, and levitated them over the wall. He muttered something in the Sith language as he slowly lowered the Dread guard's body into the lava.
Bestia sighed as she watched.
Styrak stood silently for a few moments, then nodded his head, and rejoined the group.
"Felt wrong to leave them unburied." He said.
"How many more are there within the palace?" Calphayus asked mournfully.
"I don't know. Quite many guards have survived, but this can't be the only one that was less lucky." Bestia said.
She was at the head of the group when they entered the palace.
Ruddy light filtered through the gaps in the ceiling as the tower was completely gone. Piles of rubble littered the floor, which had caved in in a few places.
Bestia could sense Brontes's scowl as she stared up at what had been her sanctum and library.
Of course she had backups aboard her flagship, as well as more copies stored on secured Holonet servers. But you couldn't back up physical sith artifacts, or cybernetic prototypes. Those were lost, or stolen by Zakuul.
Styrak and Rammas split off, standing by the cavernous archway that led onto a set of stairs going down.
"We will check the lower levels." Styrak said.
His voice was even, but Bestia could see the tension in his posture. He has been waiting for this for years. To finally learn the fate of his beloved Kell Dragons.
Rammas followed him quietly, the shadowy end of her ponytail dragging on the floor behind her. She had been trying to get rid of the shadow mane eating Vitiate's soul had left her with, but all she and Styrak succeeded in was shaving the sides. The shadows conceded that much.

Rammas led the way, carefully navigating around piles of cracked bricks and stone. Despite that, the stairway was much more intact than the upper levels, something that bode well for the state of the sublevels and Styrak's sanctum.
"How are you holding up?" He asked, the question unfamiliar on his tongue.
He always felt unsure and awkward talking to people who weren't Bestia and Calphayus, but he came to care about Rammas, and wanted to make an effort to reach out.
"I'm…okay, I guess." Rammas shrugged. "I thought the hair would go back to normal after I released the souls Vitiate ate back to Nathema and Ziost but…"
She picked up the shadow ponytail, looking at it scornfully as it partially phased through her fingers. It looked and felt wrong. On the one hand it seemed to behave like a solid object, dragging along the floor and being able to be picked up. On the other hand, it was incorporeal. It didn't pick up grime or dust, which Rammas was grateful for, and it was somewhat translucent.
"It's still fucking here." She said balefully. "I feel like I'm some fucked up edgelord version of that princess with the long magic hair from that human story."
"I see." Styrak said with a nod.
He moved into the corridor leading up to his sanctum, keeping a slow pace.
"I mean I guess I'm technically a princess???" Rammas threw her hands up in the air. "One of my moms is a Massassi princess."
She huffed.
"At least they took it well. My spine is still slightly pulverized from all the hugging."
Styrak chuckled.
"It was a humbling experience to meet someone taller than I am."
Rammas laughed.
"You were wearing a mask but I know your face was priceless."
They approached a tall doorway, decorated with a mosaic of bones. Rammas's smile fell. She stopped at the entrance to the throne room, and waited for Styrak to catch up. He limped to stand next to her, leaning on his cane and peering into the gloom.
"We're here. Your sanctum."
She stepped aside and let Styrak be the first to enter. He limped past her, and after hesitating for a moment, stepped over the threshold. Rammas followed him.
It was dark inside Styrak's sanctum, and he lit up his lightsaber, extending the hilt into a staff so he could both lean onto it and use it for illumination.
Purple light revealed a room that was mostly intact. Mostly. Many larger bones were missing, including the krayt dragon skull that Styrak's throne was nestled in. The Dread Master grumbled to himself.
"Do you think they're on Zakuul?"
"That is the best case scenario. Otherwise, it may indicate that other scavengers have been here. And I don't need to explain why that's bad."
He really didn't. An abandoned Sith compound chock-full of advanced technology and dangerous Sith artifacts did not mesh well with scavengers looking for a quick credit. Especially given the Zakuul museum Phobis Device incident.
"If they're on Zakuul we can get them back."
"That is true."
Styrak proceeded cautiously towards the back of the chamber, where a small tunnel led to a series of natural caves where his Kell dragons lived.
He stopped at the precipice once again, hesitant to venture forward. What would he find in those caves? Would his beloved Kell Dragons be nothing but dessicated corpses? Would they still be alive? Would the caves themselves even be intact?
Styrak supposed there was only one way to find out. He steeled himself, and went forward. He was determined to get this over with, at least.
Rammas followed him silently.
The cave system appeared untouched as far as Styrak and Rammas could see. There was minor damage to the walls and a few rocks lay on the ground, knocked loose by the quakes from above.
Styrak slowed down, stopping to listen every few steps. Rammas mimicked him. For the most part, the caves were quiet, but a shuffling noise ahead caused both Sith to freeze for a few moments.
The two Dread Masters exchanged a look before proceeding towards the source of the sound.
They emerged into a larger cavern. Many openings lined the walls, some collapsed and some intact.
Several reptilian creatures lay by a far wall. They looked thin, and one was gnawing on a bone. A mangled piece of golden armour lay on the floor closer to where Rammas and Styrak were standing. She saw a helmet, crushed like a rations can, sitting some distance away. It was golden and once had the flared shape common to knights of Zakuul.
Rammas stayed by the cave entrance and pulled out her communicator to report the findings. Meanwhile Styrak slowly advanced towards the Kell dragons. He wasn't sure how they'd react to him after so long apart. Would they even recognize him?
Their state pained Styrak, but it made sense after years in isolation with not much to eat. That they were even alive was a miracle. If he could nurse the beasts back to health, and acquire a few more, he could get a stable population going again.

The rest of the Dread Masters stayed together as they methodically combed through every doorway they could find.
Bestia's sanctum was completely overgrown with dreadseed, but otherwise intact. She had to hack her way through to get to her chambers, noting a few sets of golden armour and many droid parts entangled in the growth. She smiled grimly. Her lair didn't let Arcann's people in without a fight.
Although now the Zakuulans were technically her people as well.
She sighed, cutting her way through a doorway. Her room had also become filled with dreadseed without anyone stemming its growth.
"Man, what a mess."
This was worse than the state of Bestia's room back on Ziost when she was a teen. Way worse.
Tyrans peeked from behind her shoulder and whistled.
"Yeah. That doesn't look salvageable."
"The chamber itself is, but all my things are probably ruined. Ugh."
Bestia sighed.
"Let's go check other rooms out."
Tyrans took the lead, moving cautiously and disabling the traps that had become activated with him absent. They found a few more dead bodies, this time scavengers who'd tried their luck with the abandoned complex in the years of Zakuulan occupation.
Bestia's holocom pinged. It was a message from Rammas informing her that Styrak had found a few living Kell Dragons. Bestia smiled. At least someone found something good here. All she'd been seeing so far was more and more proof that the Dread Palace wasn't really worth salvaging.
Tyrans's lair was also largely intact, reinforced as it was. The tiles making up the floor of the main chamber had partially collapsed from the impact of Zakuulan bombardment. A layer of dust covered everything and Tyrans scrunched his nose under his mask at the thought of having to clean the dust off all the fragile electronics.
At least the dust bore no tracks, meaning no one had reached Tyrans's chambers. His equipment sat untouched. It could be salvaged and repaired.
Tyrans moved around the room, and marked various computers and DJ consoles for retrieval.
Calphayus's wing of the palace wasn't as lucky as Bestia's, Tyrans's, and Styrak's. It was situated closer to the main tower, and together with it, had borne the brunt of the attack.
Bestia could sense her father's sorrow as he slowly tapped his way along a ruined path. He cautiously climbed over rocks until he came to a stop before a huge crater in the ground. Beautiful Voss tiles were shattered and thrown about, and from the edge of the crater rose the mangled remains of an ancient tree.
"It's all gone. I can't see life flowing through the tree anymore." Calphayus said quietly.
"I'm sorry." Brontes carefully put one of her metal tentacles on his shoulder.
They had to skip the stairs leading up to the upper level. There was no point as they'd seen the state of it when approaching, and Brontes and Tyrans have already been to Oricon before.
Brontes had already recovered everything she could. She had already grieved for what was lost. She'd already made peace with it.
Calphayus let out a quiet sob. The others clustered around him, letting him cry.
Oricon wasn't Calphayus's choice of home. It was thrust upon him and Bestia in the wake of Ha'nadi's death. But, it was an important place for his wife, and he tried his best to make it a home.
The garden was a huge part of it. Everything here was planted and tended by Calphayus's own hand. His Dread Guard and even a few of the other Dread Masters joined him in taking care of the plants.
It was a patch of vibrant green life among the ash-choked cliffs of Oricon. It was Calphayus's own way of saying "fuck you" to Vitiate, although he would probably never admit it.
The tree had been a jewel of Calphayus's garden. A sapling brought from Ziost and tended to over the course of a thousand years. It was coaxed into a curved shape and its foliage made a canopy over Calphayus's throne.
Rammas and Styrak emerged from the doorway and joined the group. Styrak joined Bestia in hugging Calphayus. She could sense grief coming off him in waves.
Rammas made her way around the ruined tree. She used to like hiding in it. Calphayus's garden was a place of rest for her as well.
Something drew her attention. A little bit of green was visible through a hole in the bark. Rammas frowned and climbed up the dead trunk, until she reached where it was broken off. There, in a hollow, grew a sapling.
Rammas skidded down the tree and ran towards Calphayus and the others, tugging on his sleeve. Bestia and Styrak glared at her, but Calphayus followed meekly, wiping tears from his face.
"It's not all dead." Rammas said.
Now that he was close, Calphayus could sense the life force of the small tree as well. He scooped Rammas up in a crushing hug.
The sapling was marked for retrieval as well. Calphayus would see to it personally.
They couldn't access the rest of the palace. Raptus's wing was blocked off and the dread council chambers had a large portion of the tower collapse into them.
The Dread Masters held council in the main hall instead.
"It's not worth it." Bestia finally said, voicing the thought that had been festering inside her brain for the last few years.
"It would take too much to restore it and let's be real: it wasn't our choice to be here in the first place. Vitiate, necessity, and Raptus made that choice."
"None of those are present." Calphayus said.
"And the location has been compromised for years." Tyrans added. "I don't know about you but I'm not a fan of everyone knowing where we live."
"I agree with Tyrans. The Empire and the Republic hold no love for us. I think the only thing that had stopped them from coming in with an even bigger fleet was the resurgence of Revan and later occupation by Zakuul." Brontes said.
"Moving away would be no skin off my back. If the new base is not on fire all the bloody time that would be fine by me." Styrak grumbled.
"I'll just follow the lead." Rammas shrugged.
Bestia looked over them.
"It is decided then. We return to Zakuul, and take advantage of Valkorion's offer. Until we find a new base of operations."
"Would be nice if it had a beach…" Rammas muttered as the group made its way to the crumbling exit. "What about Rishi? Lord Calphayus lived there during the five years you were frozen, and it's kinda full of weird people, I don't think anyone would pay any attention to us."
"That's an option."
"Also it's not on fire and has beaches."
Bestia chuckled.
"That sounds nice."
Rammas nodded, then followed Calphayus back to his ruined garden. He insisted she help him transport the sapling.
The irony wasn't lost on her. A child of Vitiate helping the one her father tormented rescue a vestige of life that survived the ruin of Oricon. A sapling of a tree whose species were pretty much wiped out when Ziost was devoured.
It was an honour and a sign that Calphayus accepted her despite her heritage.
They came to Oricon expecting to find ruin. And they did. But they also found hope.
The trip back to Zakuul was uneventful.
Calphayus and Rammas spent the time watching over the sapling. They'd planted it in a large container, and took turns looking after it.
Styrak rarely left the side of the surviving Kell Dragons. There were three, all from a younger generation. Despite their emaciated state, they were relatively healthy. Still, Styrak would have to find other Kell Dragons if he wanted to start a new population.
Tyrans worried over his computers and DJ sets. He cleaned the devices meticulously, and was currently going through a myriad of diagnostics to ensure they weren't damaged, degraded, or sabotaged.
Bestia sat by the holocom. An image of Valkorion floated above it, seated in his throne.
"How was the trip?" He asked.
Bestia shook her head.
"Not that good. It just confirmed something I knew all along. Oricon is not worth restoring."
She sighed.
"I am sorry." Valkorion said.
"We did recover some things. Tyrans's computers. A few Kell Dragons. A sapling from Calphayus's garden. He says he'll plant it wherever we decide to move next."
"You are more than welcome to stay on Zakuul. For as long as you need."
"Thank you."

HACIA LA VIEJA MONTAÑA -CAPITULO 5
Una mañana de verano, pero este mañana era
especial ,azerí junto con ventum partirían hacia
a las altas colinas del bosque de luxsilvan ,la
nieve se había derretido ,pero no por completa
Así Abilio se despidio de los dos.ventum que
caminaba junto con azerí pronto se internaron en
el bosque —azerí saco una brújula esta tenía un
color plateado ,con barios grabados en ella y
dijo así llegaremos más rápido a la colina esta
brujula ,comienza a girar sin parar cuando hay
una criatura cerca, ya sea un troll del bosque o
cualquier otra amenaza —vaya dijo ventum es bueno
saber que viniste preparada —y tú que has traído
pregunto azerí —ventum dijo solo una flauta, mi
padre decía que era mágica —porque como lo sabes
exclamo azerí —no lo sé ,eso me contó mi padre,
según él y las historias que me contaba un noble
caballero logro calmar una bestia con su magica
música y rescato una doncella de una torre dijo ventum-
es peor que las historias que cuenta Abilio dijo azerí,
trata que el dragón de hielo no te vaya a dejar congelado
como un pequeño copo de nieve —tranquila dijo ventum
se lo que hago y cuál es tu plan para tomar el huevo —no lo
se dijo azerí ,pero algo se me ocurrirá cuando llegue él
momento así ventum junto con azerí acamparon en algún
lugar del bosque ,azerí estaba recostada y mirando
las estrellas y pregunto sigues despierto ventum -
sí … Pero que pasa tu brujula detecto algo malo?
Dijo ventum —azerí dijo no es eso, solo pensaba en nuestro
futuro cuando haya terminado el entrenamiento con Abilio
tenga que partir a la academia astral ,no sé si en verdad
este preparada ,pero no le digas nada a Abilio —porque dijo
ventum —no quiero parecer insegura ante él ,el día que él
caldero mostró un ciervo me puse muy contenta ,sabia que
no era casualidad mi presencia y la decisión de mis padres
en querer convertirme en una hechicera ,ya que ellos son
hechiceros dijo azerí —bueno dijo ventum yo ni siquiera
sabía repeler un hechizo hace unos días y Abilio me mostró
como liberar el poder del alma ,pero yo cuando sea mayor
me dedicaré a curar gente por la guerra ,sería una gran ayuda
puesto que el reino de Alcus y el reino de vitrum están en guerra
hace años y también tendré barios hijos exclamo ventum —vaya
qué aburrido eres ventum ,yo jamás tendré hijos dijo azerí ,
tener que tener un bebe en brazos me parece aburrido y de
seguro mi esposo sería un noble patán de la realeza ,con
una vida rutinaria, esperando a que yo le prepare la cena -
ventum dijo no hay nada malo en tener hijos, pero respeto
tu decisión la magia es lo tuyo azerí ,todavía recuerdo cuando
dejaste malherido a ese soldado del reino de alcus ,fue bastante
sorprendente dijo ventum ,pero ya que los dos no podemos dormir
quieres que toque una canción con mi flauta —oh por dios no dijo
Azerí entre una mueca de sonrisa dijo solo bromeaba hazlo ,me
gustaría escuchar algo además de los grillos de este bosque -
Así ventum saco la flauta y comenzó a tocar una melodía muy
triste ,pero era alegre a la vez ,era un sonido extraño —azerí
se acercó a ventum y poso su cabeza junto a su hombro y dijo eres
el primer amigo que tengo desde que era una niña —ventum dijo
gracias yo también te considero una gran amiga y así siguió tocando,
mientras los ojos de azerí se cerraron había quedado dormida sobre
el hombro de ventum —ventum dejo de tocar y la tapo con una manta
y dijo descansa mañana tendremos ese huevo de dragón así azerí y
ventum despertaron muy temprano llegando a la colina ,había restos

—Azerí dijo son restos de las construcciones del reino de las hadas,
hace siglos según Abilio aquí y todos los bosques que ves a los lejos

Así azerí poso sus manos en el suelo y entre poca nieve que quedaba, formo un
círculo con barios caracteres en el suelo —pero ventum no hizo caso ,sacando la flauta
Comenzó a tocar ,el dragón de hielo se puso de pie desde su madriguera posando los ojos
fijos hacia ventum ,pero parecía calmada ,hasta que azerí dijo que haces estúpido
te va a matar con esa tonta melodía —ventum se distrajo y dejo de tocar así el dragón
le lanzo una bocanada de aire muy frío en su brazo derecho ,pronto el brazo de ventum
quedo congelado —mientras azerí que había formado ese extraño círculo dijo estas palabras
por lo bajo; duplicare anima et te ipsum nunc ,mientras el dragón se acercaba a ventum
para tirar otra bocanada de hielo —un dragon verde salió entre el círculo que azerí
había formado ,su tamaño era igual y camino hasta estar cara a cara con el dragón de hielo,
Así azerí le dijo a ventum que tomo un huevo de la madriguera —ventum corrió con el brazo
totalmente congelado y tomo el huevo —azerí le dijo ahora márchate ,no resistiré mucho
hasta que esta ilusión se haya roto —el dragón de hielo daba vueltas en círculo mirando
el dragón verde que azerí había conjurado —cuando azerí miro que ventum ya estaba bajando
las escaleras ,poso otra vez su mano en el círculo que había formado así el dragón espiritual
de azerí desapareció y azerí corrió hacia las escaleras que conducían hacía bajo —abajo sé
Encontró a ventum con el huevo diciendo lo logramos ,pero no siento mi brazo derecho —déjame
ver dijo azerí será mejor llevarte lo más rápido con Abilio ,el ataque de un dragón de hielo
es cosa seria ,pero tenemos el huevo y que hacías con esa flauta ,casi te mata —me mata casi
lo logro no debiste gritarme que deje de tocar el dragón de hielo se enfadó dijo ventum -
si no fuera por mi hechizo de duplicar el alma del dragón estarías muerto exclamo azerí, pero
partamos lo más antes posible tu brazo no se ve bien y así ventum, azerí caminaron por él
bosque de luxsilvan hacia la casa de Abilio —ventum iba como podía, ya que tenía el brazo
totalmente, congelado aun así logro llegar junto con azerí …

Holaaaaa, cómo están, aquí su narrador de confianza les va a dar su opinión sobre el libro¨ La niña que bebió luz de luna¨. (CONTIENE SPOILERS)
Bueno, al principio me parecía aburrido pero despúes se muestra más afondo la fantasía, siento que es bueno poner en un contexto malo a xa(la bruja) ya que antigüamente se creían que hacían pactos con el diablo, luego me dió un poco de gracias que haya un dragón diminuto. pero bueno al tema principal.
Luna es una niña que le otorgaron a la bruja como sacrificio pero en verdad no la sacrifica, la lleva al otro lado del bosque para que la crien allá, pero accidentalmente ¨bebío¨ luz de luna haciendola magica. la bruja ve esto y decide criarla ella.
dicho esto vamos con el problema. Algún día se acabara la magia y quedaran solo bestias, si esto ocurre los pueblos y bosques quedarían desprotegidos y habría gente en peligro.
esta será mi ultima publicación acerca del libro, fue bonito narrarles el texto. Disculpen si fui fome y ojalá los haya ayudado en algo

‘¿Qué son exactamente estos…?’ Miré mi escritorio, parpadeé sin comprender. El escritorio, que debería haber estado repleto de plumas, tinta y papeleo para procesar, en cambio estaba repleto de cajas que estaban empaquetadas con tanto cuidado que hacían que me escocieran los ojos. Las cajas se amontonaban hasta el punto de amontonarse debajo del escritorio. Estoy seguro de que no existía nada…

According to Naschy himself - director, screenwriter and main actor - this is the best work about Waldemar Daninsky. The Beast and the Magic Sword is longer than the other films in the series and is indeed highly polished. Shot in Japan, it quite successfully captures the atmosphere of the Land of the Rising Sun.

Abra/Kadabra/Alakazam Headcanons
(Gamefreak only provides so much information so I guess I gotta take things into my own hands. These are all based off the games, save for the egg designs because I do what I want.)
Biology
The line’s scientific name is Bestia magica (approx. ”beast that uses magic”). The Bestia genus includes many other bipedal plated “kaiju” Pokemon, such as Rhyhorn and Kangaskhan.
The Abra line is omnivorous/insectivorous.
Out in the wild, they eat fruits, veggies, and some types of fungi. They will also occasionally hunt small and weak bug-types.
In captivity, they can enjoy most of the foods their trainers do. They also enjoy frozen treats like shaved ice and ice cream (though they can only have dairy if it’s lactose free).
Their average lifespan is 65 years out in the wild, due in part to their frail nature. In captivity, they can live up to 110 years, with some individuals living as long as 130 years.
The line’s body texture is similar to armadillos; the brown areas of their bodies are covered in thick, leathery plating. This helps protect their otherwise frail bodies.
The rest of the skin is rough in most places, but the underside of their chins and tails are very soft.
Abra and Kadabra used to be semi-arboreal a long time ago; their tails are prehensile to help with climbing and their three-toed claws are designed to grasp tree branches. They can still sometimes be seen in trees gathering berries.
They’ve evolved to prioritize their psychic abilities. On the plus side, this gives them some of the most powerful psychokinesis of any Pokemon (outside of legendaries), but on the minus side, they’re very frail health-wise, with issues such as:
Joint problems/arthritis, which is especially common in Alakazam
Semi-hollow bones that break easily (though a combo of recover and levitation allows them to heal remarkably fast)
Frequent headaches, especially with Kadabra
Issues with muscle atrophy and strain
Badly-designed legs (the reason they levitate all the time is because walking too much can seriously mess up their knees)
Their long whiskers are highly sensitive and are used to sense changes in psychic energy, which helps them avoid attacks.
Males have evolved longer whiskers to impress females (and other males from time to time). While the female’s whiskers are shorter on average, they’re more sensitive.
Kadabra store energy in their tails in the form of fat, similar to a gecko. This allows a well-fed Kadabra to go as long as long as a month without eating.
While the entire line’s heads never stop growing, Alakazam’s grows the fastest, at an average of ~1 cm (.7 in) per year.
The largest Alakazam skull (relative to size) on record was from a 117 year old individual. It was 3 feet (.9 m) long from the back of the head to the snout at the time of its passing. The skull was donated to and currently resides at the National Museum of Nature in Kanto.
If an Abra doesn’t get enough sleep, they can temporarily lose their psychic abilities until they sleep again. They can permanently lose both their abilities and their psychic typing if they stay awake more than 12 hours.
These normal-type Abra don’t need as much sleep, but they’re also unable to evolve into Alakazam.
While they can evolve into Kadabra, they tend to have more muscle and other adaptations to make them less frail, possibly to compensate for their lack of abilities.
Evolution/Mega Evolution
The line used to be two stages several thousand years ago. Alakazam is a relatively recent evolution and is thought to be caused by the line’s rapidly developing psychic abilities.
The ring on an Abra’s tail will start to glow when they near evolution (likewise, a Kadabra’s markings also glow right before they evolve).
The amount of sleep they need gradually decreases as well, dropping from 18–20 hours a day to about 12 as a result of their strengthening minds.
Like other “trade” evolutions, Kadabra rely on changing social interactions to evolve; specifically, they evolve through learning and training with others.
This can be easily accomplished in captivity via trade, loaning them temporarily to another trainer, or via linking cord (which simulates the energy they receive from the former).
In the wild, evolution is usually achieved by a Kadabra leaving its original home to travel, join another group, or train under a more powerful psychic-type. They’ve also been known to evolve via self-enlightenment, but this is rare.
Kadabra have been known to enter a meditative state before attempting to evolve where they won’t eat for long periods of time, instead relying on the stored nutrients in their tails.
When they evolve, the stored fat in their tails is burned up to fuel the evolution. The subsequent lack of tails make Alakazam much faster and lighter.
Alakazam are considered easy-to-medium level Pokemon to mega evolve, as many individuals strive for the heightened abilities mega evolution brings. They also have few physical or mental problems as a result.
The biggest physical issue is that their muscles completely atrophy in order to better enhance their minds. This does not cause them pain (merely a tingling pins-and-needles sensation), but makes it harder for them to physically move their bodies.
This atrophy makes them even more fragile than normal, so trainers should pay close attention to their Pokemon’s condition and recall them immediately if they’re showing any signs of serious pain.
Mentally, they almost always stay lucid due to their high intelligence. However, the shock of their heightened mental state combined with the future events they see can sometimes lead to declines in mental health, so it’s important to offer support if they need it.
Social Behaviors
A group of Abra/Kadabra/Alakazam is known as a hocus.
Kadabra and Alakazam have little respect for non-psychics, especially out in the wild, making battling them before capture extremely important. If properly impressed by a trainer, however, they will be loyal to the end.
They can also be impressed by trainers who capture them with stealth, as this requires precise control over one’s thoughts.
They are intelligent enough to be approached peacefully, but this requires calm and clear thinking.
The line is incredibly curious by nature. On rare occasions, they’ve been known to approach people in the wild to investigate things like Pokedexes or cameras.
The line makes a wide variety of noises, primarily trills and rasps. These sounds are used mostly to communicate with other Pokemon, as they almost exclusively use telepathy to talk to each other.
Their vocal cords are relatively underdeveloped because of this, so what noises they do make tend to be soft.
Due to the line’s incredibly high intelligence, they can learn to communicate fluently with their trainers via telepathy. However, this tends to be incredibly migraine-inducing for non-psychics, so they tend not to do this to avoid accidentally hurting anyone.
With that said, many trainers will learn sign language alongside their Pokemon instead, which allows for equally fluent communication without the migraines.
Some also prefer to just grin and bear it, as the human mind will eventually gain immunity to the waves that cause the migraines through long-term exposure.
Abra/Kadabra/Alakazam either live together in groups of 30–60, known as colonies, or will stake out on their own to look for a trainer.
While historically they’ve been known to create structures to live in, in recent times they tend to just occupy abandoned human buildings instead. Individuals on their own may take shelter in caves.
Colonies are typically lead by an alpha, oftentimes but not always an Alakazam. Unlike many other Pokemon lead by alphas, leaders can be replaced if the rest of the colony is unsatisfied with their performance.
It’s estimated that over 80% of wild Abra will partner with a human at some point in their life, due to a natural desire to learn and improve their abilities.
Like many psychic-types, the line shows affection by pressing their foreheads against the heads of Pokemon and people they like.
Smiling is not part of the species natural body language. However, they tend to pick it up after being around humans.
Abra only teleport if they feel unsafe. With that said, many trainers will attach trackers to them in case they teleport and become lost.
While Alakazam are several times smarter than humans, their average IQ is closer to 400–500 rather than 5,000.
The latter number comes from a discredited study that used computers. It’s believed that the computer glitched out due the Pokemon’s alpha waves, producing a number one digit higher than what it should have been.
Abra need a good deal of enrichment, even when asleep. Spoons make excellent toys as they can practice using their abilities on them, and small puzzles like rubik's cubes give them something to toy with while dozing.
Kadabra are just as intelligent as humans and need just as much daily enrichment. Otherwise, they become frustrated, destructive, and will stop listening to their trainers entirely. Some may even return to the wild.
Many psychic-type shops carry various kinds of puzzles and brain teasers, which do a good job of keeping them entertained. Training is also an excellent way to keep them enriched and to help them learn better control.
Alakazam are much better at keeping themselves enriched via things like meditation and training. They also enjoy reading; many libraries will allow Alakazam to check out books on their own if they have their trainer’s library card.
Many trainers have also found that pairing the line with other intelligent Pokemon, such as Metagross or Oranguru, helps keep them stimulated.
Alakazam are so intelligent that many find themselves unable to find a trainer that can outperform them. Because of this, it’s not unheard of for them to become trainers themselves, oftentimes using hypnosis to disguise themselves as humans.
A particularly famous psychic-type gym leader in Kanto was actually an Alakazam. If impressed by the challenger’s performance, they would reveal their true appearance and act as their own last Pokemon.
While Alakazam are some of the smartest Pokemon out there, Metagross are more intelligent than them. However, Metagross’ brains work more like a computer while Alakazam’s work more like a human’s, so while a Metagross will always beat them at chess, an Alakazam will always beat them at philosophy.
Spoons
The Abra line makes spoons as a way to focus their strong psychic energy. Otherwise, their powers are significantly weakened and they may have strange effects on surrounding objects.
They have been creating spoons for a long time. It’s believed by some that humanity may have learned to make spoons from watching Kadabra.
Spoons are made the most often, as they have a handle for easy holding and a concave surface that aids with focus. However, different individuals have different preferences in tools, and everything from forks and knives to non-utensils like pendants have been observed.
The line creates their spoons with their psychic abilities. This is difficult to do correctly and takes a good deal of concentration.
Alakazam can create spoons frequently without issue, but newly-evolved Kadabra oftentimes can’t. Instead, they’ll usually be given a spoon by an older Kadabra or Alakazam.
In captivity, trainers can buy their Abras spoons either before or after evolving. If they don’t have a spoon already and they evolve during a battle, they may teleport one from wherever’s closest as a temporary solution (more than one person has has their spoon stolen in the middle of eating ice cream).
The spoons they create are 100% pure silver, which channels and amplifies psychic energy. A spoon made of any other kind of metal, even something that's silver in color like stainless steel, won’t work as well.
Each spoon has an intricate pattern on the handle that’s unique to the individual that created it. All individuals have different preferences regarding their spoons, whether making their own or inheriting them from somewhere else.
Spoons wear out over time and get replaced when they become too warped or bent.
While it’s typical for Abra to have no spoons, Kadabra to have one spoon, and Alakazam to have two spoons, the amount they carry depends on how powerful their abilities are. Because of this, it’s possible for an Abra that chooses not to evolve to carry a spoon, an abnormally week Alakazam to only carry one spoon, ect.
The amount of residual psychic energy left in used spoons causes the mind to perceive food as tasting better than usual when eaten with them. For this reason, authentic Kadabra/Alakazam spoons are highly sought after by restaurants; however, they are hard to obtain, as they only give out their spoons to people they trust deeply.
Eggs/Breeding
Kadabra and Alakazam have human-like dating habits. Typically, they will date for a year or two before settling down, but breakups, “divorces”, ect. have all been observed.
They will create special spoons for their loved ones, which have specific designs and patterns relating to their partners. If accepted by their mates they signal the start of a serious relationship, similar to how rings work in human culture.
The line stays with their partners for their entire lives. They are typically monogamous, but polygamous couples aren’t unheard of.
They’ve been known to accept partners of all species in their egg group. Outside of their species, pairings with the Meditite, Ralts (mostly in Galar), and Machop lines are the most common. Pairings with the Gothita line are frequent in captivity as well.
Due to their fragile nature, Kadabra and Alakazam only ever create one egg at a time, and will typically only reproduce once or twice in their lifetime.
Abra eggs are yellow with a single brownish-purple ring around the middle.
Wild Kadabra and Alakazam that are traveling on their own tend to place their eggs in very obscure areas that are hard to reach without teleportation; high levels of abandoned skyscrapers are a favorite of theirs, though they also will use cliffs or deep caves. Otherwise, they raise their eggs in their colonies.
Somewhat unusually, the line does not incubate their eggs with their body heat (though Kadabra will sometimes wrap their tails around them when it’s extra cold out). Instead, they use old scavenged blankets, beds, and other soft materials to insulate the egg.
The parents will sometimes leave the egg alone to go get food or supplies. However, they carefully monitor it with their psychic abilities. More than one trainer has gotten attacked for trying to take an egg they thought was abandoned, only to have the parent teleport behind them.
Abra learn to teleport at a very young age. So young, in fact, that some researchers have observed eggs teleporting short distances when bothered.
Eggs hatch after about a week, which is considered a medium incubation period by Pokemon standards. However, breeders frequently have problems with baby Abra “sleeping in” and hatching weeks after they’re supposed to.
Similar to cats, Abra are effectively born blind. They will become strong enough to open their eyes after about three days.
To keep pace with their parents, immature Abra cling to their backs (or tails, if they’re still a Kadabra) until they learn how to levitate.
Mature Abra will sometimes cling to the backs of trainers they’ve bonded with. While very cute, this can also be painful due to their hind claws being quite sharp.
Abra are taken care of by one or both of their parents until they reach maturity after about 5 years. After that point, they may stay in their colony, or they may choose to wander and find a trainer.
Pop Culture/Mythology
The line is oftentimes used in magic shows and other stage performances, as they understand human speech and have a flair for the dramatic. Their kinesis can also be used for many different types of special effects.
Marketing:
A cleaning product company had a successfully television campaign featuring an Alakazam choosing their products over the competitor’s, to illustrate that they were the “smart choice”.
At least one major book publisher uses a silhouette of an Alakazam’s head as their logo.
A mattress company has sported an Abra in their logo for over 100 years, modeled after the owner’s own Abra.
There are cards used to help detect psychic abilities in young children that were modeled after Kadabra’s markings.
For a long time, the strange effects Kadabra had on their environment caused people to believe they brought bad luck, or even that they were outright demonic in nature.
Thankfully, further scientific studies have confirmed the strange happenings are merely a side effect of the alpha waves they produce, and this myth has mostly died out in all but the most superstitious circles.
While less commonly believed now than it used to be, a common old wives’ tale claims that children that can’t control their psychic abilities will transform into a Kadabra in their sleep.
These rumors originate from a few first-hand reports around the 1500s, which detailed how a powerful psychic child supposedly woke up as a Kadabra.
While there is evidence to support that a Kadabra was living with the boy’s family (which was very usual at the time) and that their child did disappear, there is no way to verify whether or not said Kadabra was ever human.
It also doesn’t help that many of the reports conflict with each other. Some say the child was killed by the town, some say they left to live in the wild with the other Abra, some say they evolved, ect ect.
In addition, many of the lines’ old oral histories state that the first Kadabra were humans that changed to become more powerful once humanity’s psychic powers started waning.
These rumors were the inspiration behind a short story called The Transformation (sort of like the Pokemon version of Kafka), which has won several awards and is considered a piece of classic literature.
The basic plot is that a boy with uncontrollable psychic abilities wakes up as a Kadabra. His parents give him an everstone and send him to a psychic research lab. Their tests inflict a serious back injury, which causes him to accidentally destroy the lab with his powers. His parents eventually end up trading him as he decides he wants to remain a Kadabra, and the story ends with him discarding the everstone he was given.
Because of this book, many classic lit fans have a Kadabra as their companion.
