Raven: I wasn't playing. If I didn't give it my all, you wouldn't get what I was trying to say, now would you? I hate playing games, you know.

Penny: So... What you said about destroying Atlas technology...

Raven: I wouldn't do that, but you did turn out to be tougher than I imagined. No matter how much I pounded into you, you just wouldn't break, so I had to hit you harder and harder.

Penny: You're... awful...

Raven: The Grimm in these parts are more cunning and brutal than I am. If you stay as you are, you won't be able to protect her...

Penny: ...

Ruby: Penny?

Raven: So... I'll train you both. Just for a little while.

Penny: Miss Raven?

Raven: If you continue the way you are, you'll be torn apart by the Grimm, or die to something worse. Or you'll be a stain on the ground or on the trees. But that won't likely happen after I beat you into shape.

Raven: That'll do for tonight's lesson. Now get some rest.

Not only was Made in Abyss one of my favorite games of 2022, it also was my most-played game of 2022. I put just over 90 hours into it last year.

Been playing this game recently. It’s both a fascinating and miserable experience because it seems purpose-built to be a pain in the ass. It puts a heavy aspect on the survival aspect and doesn’t hold your hand at all. You can absolutely soft lock your character in a place if you run out of supplies (such as food since you use points in your hunger meter to change levels). It’s one of those things like “Oh yeah, it really would suck this much to be a cave raider” but then you sit back and think “Wait, so am I never going to have fun with this?” Also the first part of the game “Hello Abyss” is just a glorified 2-3 hour tutorial where you play as Riko and Reg up until finishing the training with Ozen, and you can’t get to the custom character story until you finish it. I will say it isn’t all bad. They have the original voice actors (as far as I can tell) for the reoccurring characters, and you can feel a palpable increase in your skill as you learn how to better prepare for a dive and learn the most efficient routes, but man can this game get tedious. It’s always up and down, up and down. Find this, kill 5 of that, talk to this NPC, go back to base, then start it all over again. I was really excited about this game and wanted to see what it had to offer, but it just feels like a lot of effort for very little. I’d only recommend this game to diehard fans of the series, because you can get all sorts of creature lore and extra details on certain characters’ backstories. Otherwise, you’d be better off playing something else (or reading the manga).

It might be deadly but the Fifth Layer is by far the most beautiful 💜 I just have a thing for ice/snow and pretty purple lights. Also the name Sea of Corpses is just the coolest name ever 💀

(And in the game it has the best soundtrack too 🎶)

It’s also the only layer I got stuck in lol wanted to rush to Ido Front for … reasons and was underprepared haha
