A little headcanon just for you <3
🌸 Characters in this chapter: Ranpo, Kunikida, Kenji, Oda, Akutagawa, Yosano, Atsushi, Chuuya, Dazai.
🌸 No spoilers.
I recently got back into playing Candy Crush, and at one point wondered how the BSD characters would react if you told them about the game... And poof, a headcanon was born!
Well, to understand everything in detail, you need to have played Candy Crush at least a few times... But I think it is understandable even if you have not ^^
Tumblr media
Do you know Candy Crush? (BSDxReader)
Ranpo
- At first, he does not understand why everyone in the Agency is talking about this thing with a strange name. And he understands even less when he learns that it is a vulgar video game that consists in making stupid pairs.
- But he becomes intrigued when he gets his first glimpse of the game. Not because of the game itself... But because of all the candy, which he sees as a convincing selling point.
- The final element that will make him take the plunge will certainly be if he sees you playing the game too, and if he sees you toiling away for days (or even weeks) trying to finish a poor little level.
- He has to show you that he can do what you cannot, does he not? He had an ego to maintain, after all.
- Once he has figured out how to install it on his phone (which took him about a week and a half), he will be breaking all world records in just a few days.
- You would think it was in his blood. And without breaking the piggy bank, of course! A detective of his caliber never backs down in the face of adversity, and certainly not in the face of a mountain of candy!
- And you, on the other hand, while still struggling with your poor little level, are astonished to see the mountain of sweets on Ranpo's desk doubling in size day after day... You see, playing with sweets makes you hungry! And little Ranpo can be pretty influential when it suits him.
- Lately, it seems that a mysterious player has appeared out of nowhere, and has excelled so much in the game that his feat has been featured on the news... And, above all, he managed to bring the developers themselves to their knees, as they faced a drastic decrease in their player base...
- Too disgusted by this person who lampoons and humiliates them at every turn, in any of the game's competitive events.
- In the end, you were never able to finish your poor level...
- Simply because the company had to close its doors.
~
Kunikida
- "Me, play this childish thing? I've already got an overloaded schedule and not enough free time to myself, so I'm not going to waste it on this kind of pointless thing on top of it."
- That was what the blond man told you loud and clear when you asked him if he knew about the app. You did not expect much, honestly...
- But you were intrigued by Kunikida's answer. How could he know it was a game, since you had never told him? And how could he know that it was "for children", as he had claimed? (which, by the way, was not true - the proof being that you were not a child... Normally).
- So, having waited for the blond to leave on his mission, you swapped a mountain of (real) sweets for Kunikida's password with Ranpo. It was not a huge scoop to know that Ranpo had managed, without any difficulty, to guess the computer password of his busy colleague.
- Once inside the computer, you were immediately taken to the applications installed on the device. And bingo.
- In first place was none other than the game in question. And when you opened it, you thought you were hallucinating.
- Kunikida had long since passed level 2000. While you had just reached level 500 after months of hard work.
- And, if you had investigated a little further, you might also have discovered that, on his precious diary, a slot of fifteen minutes a day was dedicated to playing Candy Crush.
~
Kenji
- "Candy Crush? What's that, can you eat it?"
- "Yes... But not really. It can be played on a phone, Kenji. You know, the little device you use to contact other people?"
- It had taken him at least a good thirty seconds to think before he answered, with a big, beaming smile.
- "Ah I see, the thing that makes music at times! Well, used to, these days I don't hear it at all... Do you think it's dead?" he had finally asked, a spark of sadness in his eyes.
- "...Have you thought about charging it? Maybe it just doesn't have battery anymore."
- "What's a battery? And why should I charge it?"
- "...Never mind, okay?"
- And, to seal this "interesting" little discussion, you patted the blond's hair, before turning on your heels, actively reflecting on the meaning of your life until the early hours of the morning that night.
~
Oda
- He knows it, but he assures you he does not play it.
- Yet, when you find yourself for some reason with his phone in your hands, you have spotted a familiar little icon in the corner of the screen...
- Because it was Candy Crush, of course. Otherwise, this story would not make any sense.
- With a wry smile, you set off to confront him, convinced that he would blush with embarrassment at the idea of having been caught. Especially as, on entering the application, the game's progression was no match for the veterans.
- "Ah, this thing? I've no idea what it is, I've never tried to open it before... Was it a game?"
- "But... How do you explain getting this far into the game if you've never played it?"
- He had no plausible explanation, and you had had to face the facts too: he really had no idea.
- Right away, you suspected that the children in his care were the ones responsible, and that they were sneaking Oda's phone to play the game from time to time.
- Until, one day, you learned the truth.
- That evening, you arrived a little early at the Lupin, and only Dazai was in the room, leaning against the bar. And in his hands was a telephone you recognized immediately: it was Oda's, of course. He had certainly lost his between drowning attempts, knowing him.
- "This game is harder than life itself...!" the brown-haired man had muttered in a low voice, as he lost a game for the fifth time in a row.
- And, unsurprisingly, it was not long before you discovered that, on the screen, Candy Crush was there. How had Dazai managed to steal Oda's phone so many times without getting caught?
- You did not know. And it was obviously a secret that would stay that way forever.
- These were not children playing in secret... But ONE child. The worst of them all.
- Dazai.
~
Akutagawa
- "What's this useless thing?" was the only sentence that came from the brunet when you showed him the game on your own phone.
- You did not take it well at the time. But you had not said your last word, far from it.
- Behind Akutagawa's back, it did not take you long to install the game on his phone, which you had managed to steal for a few moments.
- You gave him back his phone on the pretext that you had picked it up off the floor (and that it had obviously slipped out of one of his pockets, not to mention your unsuspected pickpocketing skills for a second), and waited.
- But as the days passed, your hopes faded. Akutagawa had become more cautious than ever not to lose his phone, which was something of a work tool, even if he would have gladly done without it.
- He had not mentioned anything about the game, and did not even seem to notice that it had mysteriously been installed overnight. So you gave up.
- But you should not have, of course.
- Because, in the shadows, out of sight, a certain Akutagawa had suddenly developed a passion for a certain game, after learning that a certain Dazai was already playing it. And the worst part?
- He had worked hard to find the team Dazai was on, even threatening one of its members to give up their place or risk having their head cut off.
- A happy ending, then, is it not? Under a false name, Akutagawa was now able to play anonymously alongside Dazai as much as he liked...
- But the joy was short-lived. Especially when the name of another team member, already present long before his arrival, finally caught his attention.
- And that name, you guessed it...
- Was that of a certain Atsushi.
~
Yosano
- She takes this game to heart, perhaps a little too much.
- When you found out that she played it too, you were happy to invite her to play in your team, for the sake of conviviality.
- It was the mistake of a lifetime. Because when Yosano commits to a project, she follows it through to the end. Even if it means getting violent.
- But is anyone still surprised?
- She always takes a malicious pleasure in dismantling and humiliating the first player to win more often than she does, in common chats and in the rankings of the best players. Suffice it to say that, afraid of being found out in real life by this virtual nutcase, all the members of your team ended up leaving one by one.
- Leaving only you and Yosano. But, fortunately, as you were far worse of a player than she was, you did not have to fear her wrath.
- But, if anyone else dared to disrespect her (by simply scoring more points than she did), you can be sure she would know how to find their real addresses (handy working in a detective agency, eh?).
- In the end, there is a good chance she will end up being charged with cyber stalking. But will she be convicted? Absolutely not.
- Unless the accuser really wants to end up sliced up like a ham.
- Survival tip: never win too many levels in a row, and always stay below her on the scoreboard. But you were at least second in your team, so that was good news, was it not?
- Second out of second, of course, but you cannot expect too much from someone who did not have the desire to lose their head.
- Literally and figuratively.
~
Atsushi
- Certainly the cutest of them all (with Kenji not far behind).
- He knows the game by name, but has no idea how to play it, or how to download the application.
- As a good friend (and more if you get on), you explain everything to him calmly and slowly, with all the pedagogy you are capable of. Eventually, he figures out how to open the application, how to start a game...
- But that is as far as he gets. He had never had the chance to play games, let alone on a phone. So please be patient, he deserves it.
- After several days of practice (when you have time, you always work in an agency if ever), he had learned to line up three candies and make them disappear (to which he expresses his immense joy, and since you are happy too, he is even happier, etc.).
- You MUST be proud, it is an obligation.
- After several more days of practice, he finally learned how to create a special candy! Just goes to show, with a little bit of willingness, you can learn anything (and a little bit of time, of course).
- After a month, you have finally managed to invite him onto your team to lend a hand in the fight against gummy bears and candy! And, to be honest, he ends up doing pretty well by himself, sometimes even topping your team's leaderboard!
- He takes care to send you lives as soon as possible, so do the same, okay?
- In a few words : a little angel of sweetness and innocence!
~
Chuuya
- As far as he is concerned, he will never admit playing it in front of everyone, and even less in front of his colleagues (he had a reputation to uphold, you know!).
- But, if it is you, chances are that, in the end, he will allow himself to play even when you are present. If you start laughing, however, you can kiss that special treatment goodbye!
- But you are full of goodness, are you not?
- He is the kind of guy who puts a lot of himself into the game, not as much as Yosano though (but if he somehow gets into a fight with her, expect a fight like you have never seen before!)
- But he seems to be struck by an incurable curse: with each new team he joins, he is always the only one to complete the objectives that earn everyone more gifts. And, of course, you can expect to hear some very rude name-calling, unannounced in the midst of a quiet silence.
- In a word: pure rage. But does it make him want to stop playing? Of course NOT!
- He did not invest all that time and money in this damn game to give it up so easily! Money, yes.
- So much so that, in fact, the company behind the game must live 80% on the income it earns from Chuuya, who obviously does not take kindly to not complete a level on the first try, and does not hesitate to pull out the bank card at the slightest need.
- With a bit of luck, if you are wise, you might be able to ask him to sponsor your own game...?
~
Dazai
- By far the most ADDICT.
- Gets up: Candy Crush.
- Goes to work: Candy Crush.
- Goes to the bathroom: Candy Crush.
- Gets yelled at by Kunikida: Candy Crush.
- Although, in the latter case, there is a good chance his phone will go out the window if a certain blond's nerves give way sooner than expected.
- In fact, since Dazai started playing, he loses his phone far less than before, simply because he is constantly glued to it. But does he pick up the phone more often when someone calls?
- Certainly not. He's got a game to finish!
- And if you are wondering how he manages to play without interruption, the answer is simple. No, he does not pay to finish his games, as other ignorant and stupid people would (he is broke, remember).
- It is simply because he never loses a single game, so he somehow has an unlimited life (like his real life, it seems, but do not tell him or he will start sulking). He certainly had trouble winning at first, but over the years he became unbeatable.
- (You may have noticed that he tended to play more often during working hours, but that is certainly a coincidence, is it not?)
- However, everything comes to an end at some point. And even Candy Crush's seemingly infinite levels run out after several thousand. If that is the case, you do not want to be the developer.
- If you are, unfortunately, expect to face an avalanche of messages from all sides, on all your social networks (even those you have forgotten existed for years). Blocking an account? Do not worry, ten more accounts come flooding in, asking you to add levels as soon as possible.
- Block all ten? Twenty or so other accounts come at top speed to valiantly take over. No violence like a certain doctor, no. But enough messages to drive you completely mad. So give up, and hurry on with your game, if you do not want to see the nuisance move on to the next level.
- You cannot escape Dazai. Especially when he is bored at work.
- Which is, of course, as often as Kunikida gets annoyed with him. Coincidence? Absolutely not.

Tumblr media Tumblr media
a plurality bingo off syscringe but i tear it apart:
"leftist/politically passionate" yep guys, an entire half of the american population must be faking. because they care about politics and human rights.
"nonbinary" that! is sexism. you are discriminating based on someone's gender. its also transphobic. why are nonbinary people inherently sysfakers to you? unpack that.
"have a tiktok" hundreds of millions of people have tiktok. this point is like "has reddit" or something. having a social media app that the majority of people walking around the world have means absolutely nothing.
"identifies with lvl1 autism and not aspergers" so... identifies with the up-to-date diagnosis? aspergers as a diagnosis doesnt exist anymore. lvl1 autism is the... accurate diagnosis for that presentation of autism. youre just an idiot.
"too old/too young" any age! guys, anyone of any age is faking! this is dumb and catches quite literally every person ever.
"has/had a partner system" has dated people. shockingly, systems and plurals do get bitches. that is, in fact, not a sign of faking. does your loneliness make you feel more valid?
"2slgbtqia+" this! is queerphobic/transphobic. why would a group of people historically susceptible to abuse be exempt from developing a CDD? why would a group of historically abnormal and stand-out people be exempt from identifying as plural?
"plus size, coloured hair, white" so only skinny, natural-coloured hair having, POC people can be systems? strange metric but go off i guess.
"neopronouns/neoidentities" congrats on a third transphobic box! man you people really do put up a good argument against being transmeds. /sar
"likes a specific type of fashion" dont... we all? everyone has a fashion style they gravitate towards and prefer, weirdo. "is a human being" would be more specific, honestly.
"comorbid" its a medically backed fact that people diagnosed with DID are, on average, diagnosed with 5-7 comorbid conditions. but we all know you people dont like to listen to science! who am i kidding?
"witch/spiritual" antitheism, wowzers, this could be a bigot bingo card if you really think about it. only atheists can be systems!
"conventionally attractive/unattractive" ....so... everyone...? literally everyone can be catagorized under "conventionally attractive or unattractive" lmao??? "is a human" ahh box once again.
"late diagnosed autism, adult autism, high masking" so lets just exempt huge swaths of autistic people for... no reason! only autistic minors can be systems LMAO, no adults!!!!
"OSDD" and thats just a diagnosis. your bingo box is literally "has the disorder." brilliant.
"gen z humour" this just in, gen z is now exempt from being plural! "gen z humour" and its just a gen z person adhshkash. only millenials and boomers can be systems!!!!
"gatekeeper alters" <- a very well documented alter type. you may as well have put "fits the historically documented DID presentation" while youre at it.

Chelsey czargasm's Fics of 2024
Stealing this from my beloved @scoops404 because it seems fun and because I easily spent 50+ hours betaing for her this year, so I earned it. Go check out her fic roundup if you're looking for some great DNF to read.
The premise: every fic I wrote in 2024 from my personal least favorite to my personal favorite. I included all pairings, which this year were DNF, ANF, and dip&pip. The fic I co-wrote with @alittledizzy, in sickness and in health, isn't included, but you should go check it out if you want some beautiful Dan and Phil medical hurt/comfort in a tour setting.
Overall stats: 13 fics (including the cowritten one); 186,737 words.
The Glow Squid Hunter - T - 19,260 - This was written for the Fairytales from the SMP collab and is a retelling of the Scottish folktale "The Seal Catcher" with Dream as the titular hunter and George as a glow squid shapeshifter (my first and only "minecraft setting" to date). I really struggled writing this one, which is what puts it at the bottom of my list. This fic taught me that less is more with outlining and that I operate best as a discovery writer, which is incredibly important to know.
Swipe Right - E - 9,848 - A one shot inspired by a tweet. DNF meet on a dating app and get together, but with a few twists along the way. It does what it says on the tin. A fun fic, but ultimately not my favorite.
I Like The Way You Look In My Things - E - 3,926 - Written in one day over two sittings, with a break for an existential crisis in between. Inspired by the bracelet George was wearing on his birthday stream. Basically pwp, but nothing wrong with that.
without consequence - E - 5,563 - A summer bingo fic—this one centered around DNF giving each other a hall pass but ultimately deciding they belong to just each other. There's not much to say about this one except that it was fun to write and gave me the opportunity to revisit the ANF dynamic, which is something I love.
The Waiting Game - E - 10,783 - My own take on the "how DNF finally got together" trope, following the development of their romantic relationship from discord chats through twitch con, Antarctica, Christmas, and finally getting together during a very special week in Jan 2023. The highlight for this really is the bathtub scene, which is so romantic it actually makes my chest hurt.
staring at the sun - E - 2,956 - The summer bingo fics really pushed me outside my normal type of writing, as best shown here. PWP but with a whole mess of stuff added in. My shortest fic of the year, but it accomplishes a lot in just a few words. DNF from the perspective of awesamdude in the cuck chair, complete with edging, mild bondage, and soft-dom Dream.
A Voice in the Dark - E - 18,297 - This is a fic that was more fun in concept than it was in writing. It's ultimately really good fic with a lot of fun tropes snuck in there -- secret identity, falling in love with someone based on their voice, they were roommates.
here kitty, kitty - T - 8,265 words - George makes the wrong witch angry and gets transformed into a cat; cat lover Dream saves the day. This was another summer bingo fic and when I came up with the idea, I thought it would be a crackfic. Instead, it ended up being silly but incredibly sweet and heartfelt and inspired some of my favorite fan art ever.
This Would Never Happen on the Hallmark Channel - E - 18,909 - Probably recency bias, but this one was SO MUCH FUN to write. My last fic of the year too, so if you haven't read it, what are you waiting for? Dream writes Hallmark Channel movies and George is starring in his most recent one. Strangers become friends with benefits become lovers, all while trying to keep things on the downlow so Mr Hallmark doesn't find out. Guys, it's so fun and so good, I promise!!
Holding On For Just Tonight - E (4,207 words) - my first ever phanfic. I almost trashed this so many times because I wasn't confident in writing Dan and Phil's voices, but it ultimately turned out really good and I'm pretty proud of it. Definitely looking forward to exploring this dynamic more in 2025.
Our Own Terrible Way - E - 34,290 - This is probably the most popular fic I ever published and most of my regular readers (not all, but many!) found me through this one. George and Austin start a FWB situation that ultimately ends with George and Dream finally getting together. I loved writing it, I love rereading it, I love talking about it. It made me fall in love with Austin as a character and ANF as a pairing, and I always want to do more with them.
Every Mountain Tells A Story - E - 43,072 - Literally no one should be surprised. This isn't just my favorite fic of the year--it's my favorite thing I've ever written. I got to combine two of my very best hyperfixations into one fic: DNF and high altitude mountaineering disasters. It's not my most popular fic sadly (I think it should be), but the people who read it LOVED IT and they've been very devoted to it since. I still regularly get asks and comments about it, and I never get tired of talking about it.

ok erm nintendy 2 predictions (may or may not be in the direct, just my general thoughts? i guess)
games/features:
mario kart launch title
n64 zelda remake for summer
new mario title for holiday
^3d mario
enhanced versions of ACNH, splat3, mario wonder, BOTW/TOTK, pikmin, metroid. these could take advantage of joycon mouse. ubi teased mario rabbids on switch 2 or something so maybe that gets an upgrade of some kind
weird new IP to demo the new hardware features
animal crossing announced before 2027, maybe aimed around that point but could always be delayed into 2027
splat4 announced 2026, release in 2027 i think (too early for splat4)
i think a splatoon spinoff is likely this gen but idk when. this year might be a good time as filler but i think they'd rather save resources to develop splat4
less focus on mobile and more on console. i feel like the mobile games were kinda cushion during the 3ds/wiiu era and after the success of the switch and the development of the switch 2 they feel like its not necessary (have all mobile games discontinued? not including like. pokemon ((which should always count as a separate thing)) and pikmin?). i thought i saw an article about them not abandoning mobile but idk if it was with apps or games or what. apps are definitely here to stay though i think
roblox will come at some point. it's gotta
another weird "99" type game or something of an old IP
in the direct: 3rd party anime and ~cozy farm games~
xbox games come to switch (idk anything about xbox. halo? this was rumoured)
bingo space: C button is for voice chat (microphone sold separately) (idr did anyone find a microphone on it?) (wii speak...2!)
price of games go up $10-20
monetization:
nintendo dabbles in microtransactions for the first time this generation. remember in the mid-2010s everyone was like "nintendo is the good company they dont release halfassed games" and then so many games were halfassed on the switch LMAO. also they really focused on DLC this time around and ""free updates""
microtransactions/more paid DLC for animal crossing, NOT tied to amiibo, maybe they'll try to milk it and make it run longer. expansions for towns/islands/cities (whatever they settle on), furniture sets, villagers.
microtransactions/more paid DLC for splatoon 4, not tied to amiibo. single player obviously, but also cosmetics and maybe weapon skins (THERES your "third kits")
free-to-play games with microtransactions?
honest attempts at live service games for AC and splatoon. i feel like its stupid how little content they put out for these major games when they could very easily get way more money out of it. if not "indefinite" service then way more than just two years (lbr "two years" was barely anything for these games. they released bare bones games and then added like one major thing towards the end of the lifespan after two years and thats it. they ended before they got good, or they started to get good and then it died because no one gave a shit anymore because they don't know how to keep people interested)
themes, but not to the extent of the 3ds (nothing quirky)
the playtest game, if they're gonna make it a full experience,
wishlist/wildcard:
nintendogs. idk if i necessarily want to play it but its more about a nostalgic IP coming back lol. and it would look good
quirky comes back (personality with menus, miis, something like streetpass, badge arcade, cutesy themes, SOMETHING)
gamecube VC
make wii and ds work somehow
i want the rayman 3 remaster pleeease :) dont think it'll be in the direct though im not expecting it
wildcard: mario paint as a cheap eshop title
oooooooooooooh bring back art academy maybe
more first party smaller titles for eshop? (like how pokemon does with their free to play games. like release a simple dr. mario without charging $60 for it)

2025 Video Game Bingo!!!!
Tumblr media
Inspired by @batmanisagatewaydrug’s Book Bingo, I wanted to throw together something like that for video games! I’m doing book bingo to expand my reading habits, and I think gamers players of video games could benefit from doing something similar. I also think the state of mainstream game development today feels pretty bad, so I engourage participants to seek out independent developers and small publishers. And of course, tag me if you participate!
In particular, I’d encourage people to check out itch.io and gog.com for games that are affordable (sometimes even free) and DRM-free. I’d also discourage participants from choosing “freemium” games (i.e. free-to-start games with in-app purchases, battle passes, or gacha mechanics). I promise you will be able to get bingo on this card without spending a dime without supporting exploitative developers. But also, feel free to use this to bust your backlog.
On the subject of completion: not every game is meant to be “finished,” and some games may be too time-consuming to finish anyway. Feel free to decide for yourself what it means to have “played” something. Personally, my rule is: once I’ve seen credits roll, or at least 6 hours of playtime.
Lastly, this is mostly PC-focused because I think most people have access to one. You should be able to complete this even with a shitty laptop as long as you don’t go for the big AAA stuff. But (with a few exceptions) just about every space on this card can be done on whatever consoles you might have.
Category descriptions and examples below the cut.
Non-human player character
And I don’t mean an elf or a dwarf! I’m thinking of animals here, but aliens and anthros are fine too.
Examples:
Shelter (Might and Delight, 2013)
Untitled Goose Game (House House, 2020)
E.V.O.: Search for Eden (Almanic/Enix, 1992)
Visual novel
Simple and easy to play, visual novels or VNs are mostly text over static backgrounds and character art. You will be prompted at various points in the story to make a decision, which may affect the course of the story. You could also try a “kinetic novel,” which is a VN with no decisions (and therefore only one route). There are VNs of all genres, so everyone should be able to find one you like! Note: there are plenty that aren’t pornographic, but you will probably see porn when you search for these.
Examples:
A Year of Springs (npckc, 2021)
Butterfly Soup (Brianna Lei, 2017)
Tsukihime (TYPE-MOON, 2000)
Strategy / simulation
I’m grouping these together because there’s a lot of overlap, historically. For example, Fire Emblem is considered a “simulation RPG” in Japan, while English-speakers would probably call it a strategy RPG. These can seem really dense, but for every Hearts of Iron there’s a Harvest Moon.
Examples:
Theme Hospital (Bullfrog, 1997)
Overland (Finji, 2016)
Terra Nil (Free Lives/Devolver, 2023)
Fighting
Maybe not for everyone, but I have to include them because they’re a favorite of mine. They’re the most fun with friends, but playing online or against the CPU is plenty of fun too. They also have a reputation for being hard to get into, but there are a lot of beginner-friendly ones out there too.
Examples:
Garou: Mark of the Wolves (SNK, 1999)
Melty Blood (French Bread, 2002)
Tough Love Arena (M. Paul Weeks & Amy Xu, open beta)
Role-playing
Come on, everyone loves a good RPG.
Examples:
Disco Elysium (ZA/UM, 2019)
Deltarune (toby fox, 2021)
Chrono Trigger (Square, 1995)
Non-combat
Try something other than hitting people until they’re dead. It’s okay if the game has a fight scene or two, the main point is that combat should not be one of the game’s main mechanics.
Examples:
Day of the Tentacle (LucasArts, 1993)
Her Story (Sam Barlow, 2015)
A Short Hike (adamgryu, 2019)
Fan translation
For years, particularly devoted fans have been importing and localizing games with no local release. Play something in your native language that you couldn’t officially!
Examples (English):
Policenauts (Konami, 1996, PS1 translation by JunkerHQ)
Rudra no Hihou (Square, 1996, SNES translation by Aeon Genesis)
Mother 3 (HAL Laboratory, 2006, GBA translation by Tomato)
Pick a remake, play the original
Find a remake or remaster that has been released in the last few years… and don’t play it! Instead, check out the original version. Play the remake later, if you want, but take the time to appreciate what made it worth re-releasing in the first place.
Resident Evil 2 (Capcom, 1998)
Panzer Dragoon (Sega, 1995)
Gothic (Piranha Bytes, 2001)
Released in 2025
Self-explanatory. Kind of muddied by the prevalence of early access, I suppose. My personal rule would be: if you could play it before this year, it doesn’t count. I won’t provide any examples because it’s only January.
Released before you were born
Obviously different for everyone. I think a lot of people will write off older games as too primitive. I obviously disagree, and I promise that any video game going all the way back to Spacewar has something to offer if you give it some time.
Examples (for me, anyway):
Pac-Man (Namco, 1980)
Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord (Sir-Tech, 1981)
Adventure (Warren Robinett, 1980)
Metroidvania
These are uh… well, if you don’t know what these are, look them up somewhere else. I’m not getting into genre discourse today.
Examples:
Blasphemous (The Game Kitchen/Team17, 2019)
Pseudoregalia (rittz, 2023)
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (Konami, 1997)
“““bad game”””
Play one of those games with a reputation like “worst game of all time” or something like that. If you need help, try this wikipedia list: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_video_games_notable_for_negative_reception
Free
As in free beer. To reiterate, try not to pick some free-to-play gacha game for this. Also, stealing doesn’t count as “free” here. Steal all you want for the other categories, but this one should be a game that was released, officially, for free. Play a demo if you really want, but there are plenty of full experiences at no cost. Itch in particular has a ton of freebies.
Tyrian 2000 (Eclipse Productions, 1999)
Hypnogogia (sodaraptor, 2020)
The Battle for Wesnoth (David White and others, 2005)
Racing
Vroom vroom! A surprisingly diverse genre. There’s super casual ones and super sweaty ones and everything in between. If you’re not into cars, just pick something with a fun aesthetic.
Examples:
Nightmare Kart (LWMedia, 2024)
R4: Ridge Racer Type 4 (Namco, 1998)
art of rally (Funselektor Labs, 2020)
Retro homebrew
A somewhat esoteric category, although much less so since the release of GB Studio! Play them in an emulator, on actual hardware with a flash cartridge, or even in-browser. Once again, Itch seems to be the main place for these. Theck them out here: https://itch.io/games/made-with-gb-studio
Mod or romhack
Mods are one of the most fun and unique things about video games. People have accomplished amazing things by making their own customizations to retail games. In fact, it’s not uncommon for particularly popular mods to be released or remade for retail.
Examples:
Terraria – Calamity mod
Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life – A Proud Life mod
Doom II – MyHouse.WAD
Roguelike
Live, die, repeat. These are getting really popular lately, so they don’t have the arcane reputation they used to. Still, if you’re already a fan of modern Rls, maybe try one of the classics.
Examples:
Caves of Qud (Freehold Games, 2018)
Sky Rogue (Fractal Phase, 2013)
NetHack (NetHack DevTeam, 1987)
Text-based
Text as in words, not just symbols. Also called interactive fiction. One of the oldest kinds of computer games. They’re not really popular as retail releases these days, but they have a really low barrier to entry, so there’s a lot of indie IF games to choose from. Some might have a few grahpical elements, but this category should be primarily text-focused.
Zork (Infocom, 1977)
The Hobbit (Beam Software, 1982)
Depression Quest (Unburnt Witch, 2014)
Fantasy console
Fantasy consoles are a sort of retro throwback idea that’s been taking off lately. Essentially, the idea is: what if there was a computing environment with the kinds of restrictions that gave older consoles their distinctive look and feel, but with a bunch of modern conveniences like a simple API and easy online game sharing? There are a few of these, but the biggest one is Lexaloffle’s PICO-8. It’s very popular and has a lot of games available, most of which are free—aside from the $15 cost of admission to the system itself. A free alternative is TIC-80, also pretty popular, but open-source. Both come with a program (SPLORE for pico, SURF for tic) that allows you to search and instantly download games, as well as share your own. Best of all, they come with their own development environment!
Participate in a game jam
Okay, this one is probably the toughest. I’ve never done it myself, but I hope to this year, which is why it’s on here! Jams are usually focused on a theme or a technology, for example “chill games” or one of the aforementioned fantasy consoles. I believe jams tend to be beginner-friendly. Let’s find out together! And these days, they’re extremely easy to join. Once again, Itch has you covered: https://itch.io/jams
Based on a book
Only appropriate, since this was inspired by book bingo. Games based on books aren’t the most common, but that’s part of why they’re interesting. One obvious avenue is interactive fiction, but as usual, there’s all kinds. Try something based on a book you’ve read!
Examples:
The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (Infocom, 1984)
Ken Follett’s The Pillars of the Earth (Daedalic, 2017)
The Invincible (Starward Industries/11 bit studios, 2023)
“Super” in title
Basically a wildcard. There are so many games with “super” in the title, there’s probably one that you already want to play anyway.
Examples:
Super Crate Box (Vlambeer, 2010)
SUPERHOT (SUPERHOT Team, 2016)
Super 3D Noah’s Ark (Wisdom Tree, 1994)
Rhythm
Do you have rhythm? No? Me either. Rhythm games can still be fun though. Put it on the lowest difficulty setting and go hog wild (this is an order).
Examples:
Thumper (Drool, 2016)
Friday Night Funkin’ (The Funkin’ Crew, 2020)
Rhythm Heaven Megamix (Nintendo, 2015)
Survival horror
Horror plus combat plus scarce resource management. Doesn’t get better than that. Most modern ones are inspired by a specific handful of games (early Resident Evil and Silent Hill). My favorite thing about these is how they go from scary to cozy once you’ve been through them once or twice, and they’re usually pretty short.
Examples:
Silent Hill 2 (Team Silent, 2001)
Signalis (rose-engine, 2022)
Crow Country (SFB Games, 2024)
RPG Maker
A series of programs for making JRPG-style games that goes back to the 90s, and continues today. Surprisingly flexible but with a low barrier to entry, a lot of extremely cool independent games have come out of this. Maybe you’ll try making one yourself!
Examples:
Hylics (Mason Lindroth, 2015)
Corpse Party (Kenix Soft, 1996)
The Way (Lun Calsari, 2008)

So. Remember when I did this? Time for the results!
Tumblr media
I'm very saddened to announce that we didn't get a bingo this year... More or less honest justification under the cut
Someone magically solves a case by zooming in on CCTV footage: they made infinite zooming on the 702 banner photo
An excruciating finale: 😭😭
At least two very obvious fanfic tropes: dating app, accidental love confession, not dating when everyone thinks you do, "just as friends", do I need to keep going?
Pardo does something very shippy: basically everything he did this season??
TUTOIEMENT: He didn't know it was her but it counts!
The Monet theme plays: I forgot when but it does, trust me
The Van Gogh theme plays: Oh I did not forget when 🫠
Someone leaves the OCBC: Uh, what happened to Greg? And Youssouf? (And Hugo BTW?)
Therapist meltdown: why do you think Florence's therapist has vanished? Also, Juliette is kind of a therapist now and she kind of has a meltdown, no?
A dead painter makes fun of Florence: have you met Botticelli?
Someone reminds Florence that she's alone: HAVE YOU MET BOTTICELLI???
Adèle gets some character development: she crafts earrings and enjoys gossiping. That's not nothing!
Where is my hug? Where is my shirtless scene? Why is Juliette stuck in the past instead of happily married to Nathalie? Where is my kiss? Where is my dream?? How come nobody got abducted this year? 😭😭😭
Hopefully we'll get more luck next season...

How to make Malayalam grammar easy for kids
It can be difficult for children to learn grammar, particularly for a rich and complex language such as Malayalam.
Tumblr media
1. Start with the Fundamentals and Progress Gradually
Children forget about grammar if too much is given at one time. Start with fundamentals—vowels (സ്വരം), consonants (വ്യഞ്ജനം), and single-word fundamentals. Provide examples using objects in the house (പെന്, പുസ്തകം, കസേര) and gradually teach sentence construction.Make each lesson short and to the point. Practice and repetition aid in remembering more.
2. Use Stories and Rhymes
Malayalam also has a rich tradition of children's folk tales, poems, and lullabies. Children themselves love stories and songs. These can be highly effective instruments to instill grammar in an indirect way. For instance, children learn sentence structure, verb conjugation, and vocabulary by listening and repeating old rhymes (such as "Onam songs" or "Thunchathu Ezhuthachan's verses") without even knowing it
Complete short stories using simple grammar patterns and request the children to fill in or retell the story. This exercise reinforces grammar in context.
3. Use Games and Activities
Kids learn more when they are having fun and attentive. Grammar games such as "fill in the blanks," sorting word types, rearranging sentences, or parts of speech identification can make learning more interactive.
Some activity ideas follow:
Grammar Bingo: Utilize verb forms or noun cards and require kids to identify them in the course of a storybook reading.
Flashcard Games: Prepare flashcards for various parts of speech with colorful images.
Act It Out: Provide kids with a sentence and have them act it out, highlighting the verb.
"These exercises improve grammar, boost memory, and spark interest."
"This practice sharpens grammar, enhances recall, and fosters engagement."
4. Visual Aids and Charts
Visual learning is very effective with young children. Utilize colorful grammar charts, mind maps, and posters for teaching sentence structure, tenses, or plural forms. These can be displayed on classroom walls or at home for easy reference.
Develop visual narratives with each of the parts of speech symbolized by a distinct color or character.
5. Employ Technology judiciously
There are numerous online tuition Malayalam learning applications and YouTube websites intended solely for children. These platforms frequently utilize animations, music, and interactive activities to teach grammar rules.
Some apps have quizzes, stories, and pronunciation practice that can reinforce grammar in an engaging way. Make screen time productive by exposing children to such tools under guidance.
6. Practice Speaking and Writing
. Encourage children to use Malayalam for speaking at home and among friends. Design a "Malayalam Day" weekly when they speak only Malayalam.
Ask them to compose short sentences, diaries, or daily activity descriptions. Correct them gently but do not discourage them. Encourage writing to be a fun activity, not a tensionful one.
7. Apply Real-Life Context
Grammar can be easily explained when related to day-to-day life. Utilize everyday routines like brushing teeth, eating, or going to school to render grammar tangible.
For instance:
"ഞാൻ ചായ കുടിക്കുന്നു." (I am drinking tea.)
These everyday situations make the children appreciate how grammar happens in actual communication and hence makes it seem less formal and more real.
8. Be Patient and Positive
Finally, patience is the way to go. Every child learns at their own speed. Appreciate minor triumphs, and do not dwell on errors.
Don't compare children or expect them to learn grammar in a rush. Turn grammar into an entertaining, everyday experience rather than a course they have to "pass."
Conclusion
Malayalam grammar, although complicated, does not need to be complicated for kids. Grammar classes can become fun and useful using stories, games, images, and day-to-day situations. As a parent or educator, your way can go a long way. Consistency, creativity, and kindness can assist you in helping children fall in love with Malayalam's elegance and learn its grammar easily.

Multiplication Chart 1 to 12 | Learn Math Fast
A Multiplication Chart 1 to 12 is an essential tool for everyone, from students to professionals, because it forms the foundation of mathematics. Here’s why it’s so important:
Tumblr media
1️⃣ Builds Strong Math Skills
Mastering multiplication is crucial for understanding more advanced math concepts like division, fractions, and algebra.
2️⃣ Saves Time in Calculations
Knowing the multiplication table helps solve math problems quickly, reducing dependence on calculators and improving mental math.
3️⃣ Essential for Daily Life
Whether calculating expenses, grocery shopping, or managing finances, multiplication is used in everyday scenarios.
4️⃣ Boosts Academic Performance
A solid grasp of multiplication improves confidence in math, leading to better performance in school and standardized tests.
5️⃣ Supports Career Growth
Professions in engineering, business, science, and finance rely on quick mathematical calculations, making multiplication a key skill.
6️⃣ Enhances Problem-Solving Abilities
Quick recall of multiplication facts helps in logical reasoning, critical thinking, and overall cognitive development.
Tumblr media
A Multiplication Table 1 to 12 is a must-have learning tool for kids, students, and adults alike—it’s the key to strong math skills and everyday success!
How to Learn the Multiplication Chart 1 to 12: A Step-by-Step Guide
Mastering the multiplication chart from 1 to 12 is a crucial skill that makes math easier and faster. Follow this detailed and structured approach to learn it effectively.
📌 Step 1: Understand the Concept of Multiplication
Before memorizing the chart, grasp the idea behind multiplication. It’s simply repeated addition:
Tumblr media
2 × 3 means adding 2 three times → 2 + 2 + 2 = 6
5 × 4 means adding 5 four times → 5 + 5 + 5 + 5 = 20
Once you understand this, multiplication will make more sense.
📌 Step 2: Start with Easy Numbers (1s, 2s, 10s, and 5s)
Begin by learning the simpler tables that have clear patterns:
1s Table: Any number multiplied by 1 stays the same (1 × 7 = 7)
2s Table: Just double the number (2 × 4 = 8)
10s Table: Add a zero at the end (10 × 6 = 60)
5s Table: Always ends in 0 or 5 (5 × 3 = 15, 5 × 4 = 20)
These tables are easy and help build confidence.
📌 Step 3: Recognize Patterns to Make Learning Easier
Instead of rote memorization, use patterns to understand the numbers:
Tumblr media
Even numbers in the 2s, 4s, 6s, 8s, and 10s tables
Odd numbers in the 3s, 5s, 7s, 9s, and 11s tables
9s Table Trick: The digits in the answers always add up to 9!
9 × 2 = 18 (1+8=9)
9 × 3 = 27 (2+7=9)
Recognizing these patterns makes memorization easier.
📌 Step 4: Use the Finger Trick for the 9s Table
A quick trick to learn the 9 times table:
Hold out both hands (palms facing down).
To find 9 × 3, fold down your third finger.
Count the fingers on the left (2) and on the right (7). The answer is 27.
Try this for any number from 9 × 1 to 9 × 10—it always works!
Tumblr media
📌 Step 5: Practice with Real-Life Scenarios
Instead of memorizing in isolation, apply multiplication to real life:
Shopping: "If each apple costs $3, how much for 4 apples? (3 × 4 = 12)"
Cooking: "If one recipe needs 2 eggs and I make 6 batches, how many eggs? (2 × 6 = 12)"
Counting Money: "If I earn $5 per hour and work 8 hours, how much do I make? (5 × 8 = 40)"
Connecting numbers to real situations makes learning fun and meaningful.
📌 Step 6: Use Flashcards, Games, and Songs
Make learning interactive with:  ✅ Flashcards: Test yourself with random multiplication questions.  ✅ Games & Apps: Try multiplication games like Times Tables Rock Stars or Math Bingo.  ✅ Songs & Rhymes: Many online videos use catchy tunes to help remember tables.
Tumblr media
📌 Step 7: Fill in a Blank Multiplication Chart
Instead of reading the full chart, write it out from memory:
Start with the easier tables (1s, 2s, 5s, and 10s).
Gradually add more challenging ones.
Compare with a correct chart to check mistakes.
Rewriting helps commit the numbers to memory.
📌 Step 8: Test Yourself Daily
Set a 5-minute challenge to recite tables every day.
Ask a friend or family member to quiz you randomly.
Mix up the questions (instead of always doing them in order).
Repetition strengthens memory!
📌 Step 9: Use the "Multiplication Family" Trick
If you know one fact, you already know three more:  ✔️ If 4 × 6 = 24, then:  ✔️ 6 × 4 = 24 (Switch the order)  ✔️ 24 ÷ 6 = 4 (Division fact)  ✔️ 24 ÷ 4 = 6 (Another division fact)
Understanding this reduces the number of facts you need to memorize!
📌 Step 10: Challenge Yourself with Speed Tests
Once comfortable, practice quick recall:  ⏳ Time yourself answering as many multiplication facts as possible in 1 minute.  🎯 Try to beat your score each time!
Speed drills help develop instant recall, which is essential for exams and daily problem-solving.
🚀 Conclusion: Master Multiplication Like a Pro!
By understanding patterns, using tricks, applying real-life math, and practicing daily, you’ll easily master the Multiplication Chart 1 to 12! Keep practicing, stay consistent, and soon multiplication will become second nature. 🎯💡🔢

slightly long post!
hi tumblr, i just felt like writing a little blog about just things on my mind lately. haven’t use’d tumblr in forever but it’s the only app i know where i can write long posts!
i mainly only wrote this blog post just for myself and don’t really expect anyone to look at it.
i cried a lot while thinking and writing and reminiscing about this😭
i’ve recently started doing a lot of reflecting and reminiscing and i just feel like talking about it. this post isn’t anything bad, i just feel like repeating what i’ve been thinking about on my blog! 😋
that is what tumblr is for, right?
i love my girlfriend!!
i love my girlfriend, she’s the most impactful and meaningful women to have ever entered my life ever since i first laid my eyes on her back at the start of ninth grade. i sometimes wish people could be in my shoes back then all the way up until now to realize and see how much she’s caused such a meaningful and great impact on me.
back near the start of first semester of ninth grade, basically since the first day school, i first spotted her. i remember everything exactly. everyone walked in and just picked a random seat, then our art teacher came in, made us form two lines across the class, and then assigned us our actual seats lol. i remember very vividly that i looked across the room to see who i would recognize, and i saw her for the first time. her nice curly hair and her glasses and her face.
this is how i feel talking about her now:
Tumblr media
now, at the time, i didn’t really think much of it. she looked really cool and chill but that was mainly it. it wasn’t until around a week or two later i started to notice her more. i remember i was in art one time doing an assignment and i just couldn’t get her out my mind. it’s like the more i thought about her, the more like my interest for her grew.
at some point, we had an assignment in our web design class where we had a bingo card and we had to go up to someone to check off that bingo card. i immediately know that the first person i wanted to go up to was her. i went up to her during that assignment, she signed off my bingo card, i think i signed hers too, and then that was it. i think that was probably our first interaction ever.
i really don’t mean to sound stalker-ish😭but for the entirety of first semester that school year, i could not stop thinking about her. like she would enter my mind every single time i had a class with her. i would sometimes try to sneak a glance at her during web design cause she sat across the room and i would sometimes look behind my friend while he was talking to me, just to see what she was doing. she was mostly listening to music in class lol.
at some point, my friend asks “what are you looking at?” and turned around to see what i was staring at but i immediately stopped and turned around like “nothing, just staring at that wall. zoned out lol”😭
i was not going to let him, or anyone at all, know about how i was slowly developing a crush for her and i was able to keep that up and hide it from all of my friends (besides one) for 14 months (august 2023-september 2024) up until we started dating in september of 2024.
throughout the entirety of the time ive known he up until september, there has only ever been one person to ever know that i liked her. my friend from texas named josh. back in like june or july of 2023, we started a snapchat streak after we started to talk more and more and realized we could just start a streak cause we talked so much. so we did just that! everyone knows how a streak goes: you both send a picture back like three or five times and boom! the streak has started! well, during those streaks, during the times i went and had lunch with her, i would always send a streak saying something like “she has lunch with me!!!” but i would always get so nervous to go up and talk to her😭the closest i was to talking to her at lunch was finding a pencil someone dropped and picking it up and asking if it was hers. i remember she was watching a movie on her chromebook as well. i always noticed she brought her chromebook or book to lunch lol, idk why but it kind of made me fall for her even more, she just looked so chill and nice and ahhHHHHH wow i love her a lot.
anywho, fast forward to the friday before winter break started.
by this time, i’ve never really talked to her a lot. the times we would talk would be really short. i tried to send her a canvas message to see if she would respond back in either september or october of 2023 but she never responded. most of my attempts to talk weren’t really that like engaging ig? like i’ve never said “hey, i think you look cool! wanna talk for a bit?” during the times i tried to start a convo. it was always just questions about like our assignment or that darn pencil i found on the ground lol.
i decided, if im still not able to talk to her once the first week or two of second semsester is up, i probably should have to just accept defeat and move on unfortunately.
i remember being on the bus, having the canvas app open on my phone, and just staring at my message.
“does this sound too weird? does it sound too formal? would she think i’m weird for sending another message? would she wanna be friends with someone like me?”
i was thinking about a lot!
i kept editing my message to sound less weird and more casual but every time i made an edit or changed it, it sounded weird to me still. luckily, one of my really good friends was able to calm me down a bit and convince me it sounds fine. i trusted her cause she was always really honest and nice and ive known her since like elementary on my bus.
anywho, i write my final message and send it to her finally after stalling for so long, and now i had to wait. and one day, when it was the next year and we came back and started second semester, i get a very alerting notification.
Tumblr media
censored name for privacy lol but oh my GODDDD AHHHH AHHH AHHH i wanted to scream “holy fuck” so badly😭but it was like early in the morning and the morning announcements were still playing. i had never wanted to scream and jump up in the air multiple times so much in my entire life.
i opened the message and yup! my eyes were not deceiving me! she responded. she only asked how i knew her name and who i was. and that’s where everything started. it is such a long long story after.
final words!!
i love her. i really love her so much. i am so deeply in love with her, i could never imagine loosing her. she is so irreplaceable, nobody i know or will ever know will have an incredible impact on my life then her. i will always love her from the bottom of my heart since the day i developed a crush on her back in august until the day the universe finally ends. i wish i could be with her right now and break down in tears in her arms right now. i’ve never ever felt so much love for a human being in my entire life. she is genuinely such an amazing and kind and caring and breathtaking and wonderful person.
i cry sometimes when i think about everything. about just far we’ve come. we went from bearly knowing and just getting to know each other in january all the way to dating each other in september.
i cry about the time i was over at her house one time and while i was leaving and she was hugging me, i looked at the mirror behind me and everything came flooding back to me. ninth grade me would be screaming and be so proud to see how far i’ve gotten with her now. to go from being awkward and scared to start a conversation to hanging out with her almost every weekend.
i cry about the fact that if i had never had the courage or idea to message her again, this all would’ve never happened.
i cry about the fact that she is my girlfriend. how could someone so amazing and gorgeous and fascinating and resilient and radiant and captivating ever love someone like me?
i’ve always thought for the longest time i wasn’t lovable. i’ve always thought for the longest time that i was annoying and ugly and irritating to be with. i’ve thought since elementary that nobody would ever love me. especially in middle school. i thought i was going to be alone forever. i’ve never thought i would meet someone in high school or after that that would love me as much as i love them.
all of that changed when i met her, when i started talking to her. over time as we got more close, she sort of helped me realized how much of the things i thought of myself were so wrong. from her telling me that i wasn’t ugly or as annoying to telling me how perfect i am. oh god, it means so much to me. i hope she finally knows herself too how perfect she is as well. thanks to her, i look back at my old yearbook photos from elementary and realized how nice i actually was lmao. i set myself as my profile picture sometimes thanks to her! there are so many things i need to thank her for one day.
to be dating her is such an honor, it is such an incredible privilege to be her friend and boyfriend. it was recently our 5 month anniversary recently, so cheers to us and cheers to plenty of months to come soon!
if she’s reading this: i just wanna say one last thing.
i love you so dearly. we might have a few bumps on the road from time to time but we’ll always push through and end up happier with each other every single time. i promise one day, after we graduate, we will move away from this place and live somewhere peaceful finally together.
that’s my ultimate goal, move away and finally live together in peace.
i know you’ve been through so so much and i know last year was such a mess, but to be honest, i would gladly live through it all again. i would gladly go through it all and support you and be on your side every step of the way. you mean so much to me and i’ll always be there to support you.
thank you for everything you’ve done for me, and i hope i was able to support you and help you through everything!
mwah, love you💞👩‍❤️‍💋‍👨 hope we can hang out this weekend!🥹
