It was a dream job, almost impossible to turn down.
You stumbled upon the opportunity by chance. A late night scrolling through endless job listings led you to Kinetica's website. The company was looking for someone with your exact skills: data analysis and project management. The job description was vague but intriguing. Analyzing trends, managing large datasets, coordinating with various departments. It sounded challenging yet rewarding, the kind of opportunity you needed to prove yourself. The application process was quick, almost too quick. A few online assessments, a virtual interview with a charming man who headed your department, and within a week, you were offered the job. They said they were impressed by your resume, your background in bioinformatics, and your impeccable reputation. The salary was more than generous, with benefits that seemed almost too good to be true. But eager to start fresh and leave the stagnation of your previous job behind, you didn't question it further. You accepted immediately.

We suspect they're involved in illegal arms trading, possibly even human experimentation. But we need proof." Natasha nodded, understanding where this was going. "And that's where I come in."
"Exactly. We've identified someone on the inside, Y/N Y/L/N. She's new, only started about a week ago. As far as we can tell, she's clean. No criminal record, no ties to any organizations. She's the perfect target to infiltrate." Natasha leaned forward, studying the file Fury slid across the table. Your face stared back at her from the photo clipped to the top of the file, a bright smile, eyes full of hope. Natasha couldn't help but feel a pang of guilt, but she pushed it aside. This was a mission, and she had a job to do.
"What's the plan?" she asked, flipping through the file. "You'll go undercover as someone with a similar background, a data analyst, someone they might hire if the current employee doesn't work out. Your task is to gain her trust, find out what Y/n knows. If she's innocent, she might unknowingly be sitting on crucial information. If not.."
"I'll find out," Natasha finished, her voice cold and determined. Fury nodded, satisfied. "We need to act fast. Every day we wait is another day Kinetica could move their operations. I'm counting on you, Romanoff." Natasha stood up, tucking the file under her arm. "I won't let you down."
As she left Fury's office, her thoughts were already spinning with possibilities, strategies, and the cool detachment that came with every undercover mission. She knew this wouldn't be easy. Rich, smooth, and exactly what you needed to get through the rest of the day. "I'm Y/n, by the way. I'm supposed to show you around today."
"Natalie." she replied, her smile deepening. "And I appreciate the help. The first days are always a bit overwhelming."
"Don't I know it.." you said, rolling your eyes playfully. "I'm still trying to figure out where half the supplies are kept around here." Natalie laughed, a genuine but slightly guarded sound, as if she was still feeling out her new environment. "I'm sure we'll figure it out together. So, what exactly are we working on?" You began explaining the project to her, giving her an overview of "The Initiative" and what your roles would be. As you spoke, you noticed that Natalie was a good listener, nodding at the right moments and asking insightful questions. Natasha’s heart broke at the sight of the fear in your eyes. “I’m still the same person, Y/n. I’m still me. But..I haven’t been honest with you.” Your hands shook as you hugged yourself, desperately trying to understand what was happening. “Who are you? Have you been lying to me this whole time?”
Tears welled up in Natasha’s eyes as she took a hesitant step toward you, but you flinched and stepped back. “Please, let me explain..” Natasha pleaded, her voice breaking. “My real name is Natasha Romanoff. I’m an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. I was sent here to gather information on Kinetica. But everything else..everything between us..it was real. My feelings for you, Y/n, are real.”
Your eyes darted around the room as if searching for something familiar, something to hold onto. But everything felt wrong. The woman you loved, the woman you trusted, was a stranger. “You used me?” you asked, your voice trembling with anger and fear. “You used me the whole time?”
“No!” Natasha said quickly, desperation creeping into her voice. “It started as a mission, yes, but I never meant to fall in love with you. I never wanted to hurt you. Please, Y/n, you have to believe me.” You shook your head, backing away until you hit the wall. “I don’t know what to believe anymore. I don’t even know who you are. Natasha Romanoff, S.H.I.E.L.D.… it sounds like something out of a Movie..”
Natasha’s heart shattered as she watched you crumble before her. She took a tentative step closer, her hands shaking. “I’m still the person you fell in love with, Y/n. Please, let me explain everything.” You stared at Natasha, your heart breaking all over again. “You should have told me the truth from the beginning! But you didn’t. You lied to me, and now..now I don’t even know who you are..”
Natasha took another step forward, reaching out tentatively. “I’m so sorry, Y/n. I know I’ve hurt you, and I’ll never forgive myself for that. But I’m begging you, please give me a chance to make it right.” You looked down at Natasha’s outstretched hand, but the fear and betrayal in your heart were too overwhelming. You couldn’t bring yourself to take it. “I can’t..” you whispered, your voice breaking. “I can’t do this. I need you to leave.”

“Y/n, please, can we talk-” Natasha began, but you cut her off.
“There’s nothing more to say.” you said quietly. "That's it, Natasha. After this, we're done. Don't contact me again."
A long silence followed on the other end of the line, and you could hear the pain in Natasha's voice when she finally spoke. "Thank you. I'm so sorry. For everything."

But then she heard footsteps approaching, and the door opened a crack, revealing your wary eyes. Your expression shifted from surprise to anger as soon as you saw Natasha. Your hand tightened around the doorknob, and you narrowed your eyes. "What are you doing here?" you asked, your voice cold and hard.
"Y/n, please, I just want to talk." Natasha said quickly, raising her hands in a gesture of surrender. "I know I don't deserve it, but I need to explain-" You cut her off, your voice sharp with anger. "Explain? There's nothing left to explain, Natasha. You lied to me, used me, and now you have the nerve to show up at my door?"
"Please.." Natasha pleaded, her voice breaking. "Give me five minutes." Your eyes flashed with a mix of anger, pain, and something else that Natasha couldn't quite place. You hesitated, your hand still gripping the doorknob as if you were weighing whether to slam the door in her face. "If you don't leave right now." you said, your voice trembling with barely suppressed emotion, "I'll call the police."
Natasha felt her heart sink, but she didn't move. She knew you were serious, but she also knew that if she walked away now, she would never have another chance to make things right. "Do it." Natasha said quietly, "Call them if you want. But please, hear me out first. I need to show you how sorry I am. I know I can't undo what I've done, but I can't live with myself if I don't at least try to apologize."
You stared at Natasha, your hand shaking as you gripped the doorknob. The pain in your eyes was unmistakable, and it broke Natasha's heart to see how much she had hurt you. For a long moment, neither of you spoke, the tension between you thick and suffocating. Finally, you let out a shaky breath and loosened your grip on the doorknob. "You have five minutes," you said, "But if you lie to me again, I swear I'll call the police."
Natasha nodded, relief washing over her even though she knew this was only a small victory. "Thank you." she whispered, stepping back as you opened the door just enough to let her in. You led Natasha into the living room, a space that had once felt warm and inviting but now felt cold and distant. You gestured for Natasha to sit on the sofa, but you remained standing, arms crossed over your chest as you waited for her to speak.
"Okay," Natasha began, her voice trembling, "I know I've hurt you in a way I can never fully apologize for. I deceived you and betrayed your trust. But I need you to know that every moment I spent with you, every touch, every word I said to you, was real. My feelings for you are real." Your eyes flashed with anger, and you shook your head. "How am I supposed to believe that? You're a trained spy. Lying is part of your job."
"I know.." Natasha said, her voice breaking slightly. "And that's why I'm not asking for your forgiveness. I know I don't deserve it. But I couldn't leave things the way they were. I couldn't let you believe that everything between us was just part of the mission. It wasn't. You became the most important person in my life, and I was so scared of losing you."
"Then why didn't you tell me the truth?" you asked, your voice trembling with pent-up emotion. "Why did you wait until I had to find out this way?" Natasha swallowed hard, tears welling up in her eyes. "Because I was a coward. I didn't want to lose you, and I thought that if I could just finish the mission, maybe..just maybe we could have a life together afterward. But I was wrong. I should have been honest with you from the start."
You shook your head, tears filling your eyes as well. "You should have. But you didn't. And now I don't know if I can ever trust you again." A tear rolled down Natasha's cheek, but she made no move to wipe it away. "I understand." she said softly. "I know I've broken your trust, and I have to live with that. I just wanted you to know that I love you, Y/n. I will always love you. And if you never want to see me again, I'll respect that. But please don't think that I didn't care about you, because I do."
You looked away, blinking back tears. "You should go, Natasha. There's nothing more to say." Natasha nodded, her heart breaking all over again. "I'm sorry." she whispered, her voice barely audible. "For everything."
Without another word, Natasha turned and walked to the door, her steps heavy with the weight of the finality of the situation. She paused in the doorway, casting one last look at you, hoping to find something..anything that might suggest there was still a chance for you both. But your expression remained cold and distant, your eyes avoiding hers. With a heavy heart, Natasha opened the door and stepped out into the hallway. The door clicked shut behind her with a soft thud that echoed in the silence that followed. Natasha stood there for a moment, letting the reality of what had just happened sink in. She had tried, but it was over. You were right. There was nothing more to say.
Unknown to you, the case of Kinetica’s downfall was far from over. The company’s leaders were desperately trying to cover their tracks, attempting to salvage what they could. But amid the chaos, they discovered something alarming: You, one of their employees, had been the one to pass on the damning information that had led to their downfall. And now they wanted revenge.
You were alone in your apartment one evening, your thoughts drifting as you tried to focus on the book you were reading. The quiet was soothing, a respite from the whirlwind of emotions you had been grappling with. But that peace was abruptly shattered by a sudden, insistent knocking at your door. Frowning, you set the book aside and walked to the door, peering through the peephole. Your heart skipped a beat when you saw two men standing outside, men you didn’t recognize, but something about their presence immediately set off alarm bells in your head.
“Who is it?” you called out, trying to keep your voice steady despite the unease rising within you. “Delivery.” one of the men said, but there was no package in sight, and his tone was too cold, too rehearsed.
Your instincts kicked in, and you stepped away from the door, your heart racing. These weren’t delivery men..they were here for something else, something far more sinister. Panic gripped you as you realized that Kinetica must have found out what you had done. Just as you were about to reach for your phone, the door burst open with a loud crash, the two men forcing their way in. You screamed and stumbled back, your thoughts racing with fear and desperation. But before they could reach you, another figure appeared in the doorway, moving with deadly precision. Natasha.
She had been keeping an eye on your apartment since your last conversation, knowing that Kinetica might try something. When she saw the men approaching your building, she knew immediately what their target was and she wasn’t going to let them harm you. “Get away from her.” Natasha snarled, her voice cold and dangerous.
The men turned to face Natasha, but they barely had time to react before she was on them. In a blur of motion, she disarmed the first man, sending his weapon skittering across the floor. The second man lunged at her, but she easily dodged and delivered a powerful kick to his stomach, sending him crashing into the wall. You watched in stunned silence as Natasha took down the men with brutal efficiency, her movements fluid and controlled. The fight was over in seconds, the two men lying unconscious on the floor as Natasha stood over them, breathing heavily.
For a moment, the apartment was eerily silent, the only sound the ragged breaths of the two women. Your heart pounded in your chest, your mind struggling to process what had just happened. Natasha turned to you, her expression a mixture of concern and relief. “Are you okay?” she asked, her voice softer now, laced with the fear she had tried to suppress.
You nodded slowly, your eyes wide as you stared at Natasha. “I..I think so..” you stammered, still trying to grasp everything. “What..what are you doing here?”
“I couldn’t leave you unprotected.” Natasha said, stepping closer, her eyes full of guilt and love. “I knew Kinetica might come after you. I couldn’t let that happen.” Your gaze flickered to the unconscious men on the floor, then back to Natasha. “You..you saved me.”
Natasha nodded, her heart aching at the vulnerability in your voice. “I will always protect you. No matter what’s happened between us, I’ll always be here for you.” Tears welled up in your eyes as you looked at Natasha, the woman who had lied to you, who had betrayed you, but who had also just saved your life. The fear and anger you had been holding onto began to waver, replaced by a deep, conflicting emotion you couldn’t fully understand. “Why?” you whispered, your voice trembling. “Why are you doing this?”
“Because I love you.” Natasha said, her voice heavy with emotion. “I know I’ve hurt you, and I know you may never forgive me, but I had to make sure you were safe. You mean everything to me, Y/n.”
Your heart broke at the sincerity in Natasha’s voice. Despite everything, despite the lies and betrayal, Natasha’s love for you was real. And in that moment, you realized that your own feelings were just as complicated. You were angry, you were hurt, but you still loved her..more than you wanted to admit.
The two of you stood in silence, the weight of your emotions heavy in the air. Your mind raced with conflicting thoughts, torn between the betrayal you felt and the undeniable connection that still existed between you. Finally, you took a shaky breath. “I don’t know if I can forgive you, Natasha..” you said quietly. “But I can’t ignore what you just did for me. You saved my life. And..and I still care about you. I don’t know what that means, but I need time to figure it out.”
Natasha nodded, tears glistening in her eyes as she looked at you. “Take all the time you need.” she whispered. “I’ll be here, no matter what you decide.” You nodded hesitantly, the storm of emotions inside you beginning to calm. “Thank you.” you said softly, your voice barely audible.
Natasha stepped back, giving you the space you needed. “I’ll take care of this.” she said, gesturing to the unconscious men on the floor. “And then I’ll go, if that’s what you want.” You looked at Natasha, your heart heavy with everything that had happened between you. “I don’t know what I want..” you admitted, your voice trembling. “But I think..I think I need to be alone right now.”
Natasha nodded, her eyes reflecting the understanding she felt, even though the pain was clear. “I understand.” she said quietly. “Just know that if you ever need anything, anything at all, I’m here.”
You didn’t respond, but the look in your eyes said enough. You stood there, watching as Natasha efficiently secured the two men, ensuring they wouldn’t pose any further threat. She worked in silence, the weight of the situation pressing down on both of you. When Natasha was finished, she stood by the door, hesitating for a moment as if searching for the right words, but then deciding against saying anything more. With one last, sorrowful glance in your direction, she turned and left your apartment, the door closing softly behind her.
You stood frozen in place, your mind reeling from everything that had just happened. The apartment, which had been filled with tension and violence just moments ago, now felt eerily quiet. Slowly, you sank onto the couch, your body trembling as the reality of the situation settled over you.
You were filled with so many conflicting emotions that it was hard to sort through them all. Anger, fear, relief, affection..they all swirled within you, and you didn’t know how to make sense of them. You had asked Natasha to leave because you weren’t sure of anything anymore. But with the new day came a certain clarity. You knew you couldn’t stay in this limbo forever. Natasha had told you that she would always be there for you, and you believed her. As the day dragged on, you tried to focus on mundane tasks, but thoughts of Natasha kept intruding. Finally, after hours of agonizing, you decided you needed more information to figure out a path forward. If there was any chance of peace or understanding between you, you needed to know the whole truth. The next day, you called Natasha. She answered immediately, and you could hear the mix of hope and concern in her voice. “Y/n?”
“I want to know everything.” you said, your voice firm even as your heart raced. “I can’t move on without understanding everything. No more secrets, no more lies. If there’s any chance for us to find peace, you need to show me everything.”
There was a brief silence on the other end of the line before Natasha spoke, her voice filled with relief and caution. “I understand. I’ll take you to S.H.I.E.L.D. You’ll have access to everything, my reports, the mission files. Whatever you need to know.”
You nodded, even though she couldn’t see it. “Okay. When can we go?”
“Right now.” Natasha said without hesitation. “I’ll come pick you up.”
True to her word, Natasha arrived at your apartment shortly after. The drive to the S.H.I.E.L.D. building was silent, the tension between you both palpable. Natasha stole worried glances at you from time to time, but you kept your gaze fixed out the window, lost in your thoughts. When you arrived at the unassuming building that housed S.H.I.E.L.D.’s operations, Natasha guided you through a series of security checks, her presence and clearance making the process smooth. You followed her, your heart pounding with a mix of fear and curiosity. This was a world you never imagined you would be a part of.
Finally, you arrived in a large conference room. Natasha gestured for you to take a seat at the table while she went to a console on the wall and entered a series of commands. The large screen in the room flickered to life, displaying a series of files and documents. “This is everything.” Natasha said quietly, turning to face you. “My mission files, the reports I sent, the details of Kinetica’s operations. You have full access.”
You stared at the screen, your heart racing. “Why are you doing this? Why are you showing me all of this?”
“Because I owe you the truth.” Natasha replied, her voice steady but laced with emotion. “And because I want you to know that I’m not hiding anything from you anymore. I know I broke your trust, but I want to do whatever it takes to rebuild it. Even if that means showing you everything.”
The next few hours were spent going through everything, the initial mission briefing, how Natasha was assigned to get close to you to gather information on Kinetica, and how she struggled with her growing feelings for you. She explained how she tried to keep you out of harm's way even as she fulfilled her mission, and how every moment you shared, despite the circumstances, had been genuine.
You listened intently, absorbing every word, every detail. There were moments when your anger flared up again, moments when you wanted to shout at Natasha for the betrayal, for the pain she had caused. But there were also moments of understanding, moments when you saw the inner conflict Natasha had gone through, torn between her duty and her growing love for you.
When Natasha finished, she looked at you, her heart pounding in her chest. “I know this doesn’t undo the lies, but I wanted you to see that I truly cared about you. I never wanted to hurt you, Y/n.” You remained silent for a long time, processing everything you had learned. You felt raw, exposed, but also strangely relieved. This was what you had needed. the full truth, with nothing held back.
Finally, you looked at Natasha, your expression unreadable. “You were honest with me today, Natasha, and I can feel that. For the first time, I feel like I’m really seeing you..with all your strengths and flaws, with all your mistakes.” Natasha nodded, her voice soft as she responded, “That’s all I wanted. To be honest with you, even if it costs me everything.”
You sighed, rubbing your temples as you tried to organize your thoughts. “I don’t know where we go from here, Natasha. I don’t know if I can ever fully trust you again. But..I see that you’re trying. And that means something.” Natasha felt a small spark of hope ignite in her chest, but she didn’t dare let it grow too large. “Thank you, Y/n. That’s more than I deserve.”
You looked at Natasha, your eyes filled with a mix of sadness and something that resembled hope. "Maybe it’s a start. I don’t know what the future holds for us, but at least now I know the truth. And that’s more than I had before.”
Natasha nodded, her heart heavy, but she was grateful. “Whatever happens, I’m here. If you need space, I’ll give you that. If you want to talk, I’ll listen. I won’t go away.” You managed a small, tired smile. “I guess we’ll just have to see where this takes us.”
You both left the S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters together, the tension between you eased but the future still uncertain. As you stepped out into the bright afternoon sun, Natasha glanced at you, and for the first time in weeks, she felt a cautious spark of hope. You caught her glance and sighed. “It’s going to take time, Natasha. I don’t know if things can ever be the way they were, but.. we can find something new. Something honest.”
Natasha nodded, her heart swelling with emotion. “That’s what I’d like.” As you walked side by side, the past still loomed over you, but for the first time, there was a path forward..a path that might lead to healing, to forgiveness, and maybe even to a future where you could rebuild what had been broken. The road ahead would be difficult, full of challenges and doubts, but you had taken the first step together. And for now, that was enough.

Into the Wonderland: Chapter One

Chapter Summary: You were just trying to enjoy lunch and get some school work done. Unfortunately, a classmate interrupted in the worst way possible and you turn to two of the other patrons for help.

Your afternoon class for the day was canceled last-minute. The hastily-written email came in less than 15 minutes before it was supposed to start, something about a family emergency. For you, this meant you had time to go to your favorite restaurant for lunch. You were well-known among the staff, considering one of your family friends was the owner.
“Hey, Y/N! Don’t you normally have a class right now?” The host greeted you as you approached the counter.
“It was canceled today. I’m gonna use the time to eat and work on a project for bioinformatics,” you explained. The host hummed in understanding.
“You want to sit in Minali’s section?” You nodded eagerly. Minali was your favorite server. Whenever you came in on her shift, you sat with her. The host gestured for you to follow. She led you back to a small booth in the back corner (you loved this booth because it had an outlet). You thanked the host and got your laptop set up. Minali waved at you with a bright smile. You smiled back and opened R to begin a new coding page.
“Oh, hi Y/N.” You barely started on your code when you were interrupted. You looked up and stared at the guy next to your table for a second.
“Hey! Marcus, right?” 
“You remember, that’s good. It would’ve been awkward if you didn’t.” Marcus rubbed the back of his neck. Your nose scrunched up at his scent, as he wasn’t wearing any scent blockers. It was common courtesy to wear blockers when at a restaurant. You had put on patches before you even stepped in the building. The blockers made sure everyone would be able to enjoy their food without distraction. Marcus was an exchange student, so maybe he just didn’t know. You decided to let it slide.
“As if I could forget your name with how often Dr. Byeon sings your praises,” you teased with a shake of your head. 
“Ah, sorry about that,” he winced.
“Don’t apologize for having such good grades. It’ll help you in the long run.” You waved a bit before turning back to your laptop. God, where did you even want to start with this code?
“Do you mind if I sit here for a minute? My friend is meeting me here soon.” Marcus pointed to the bench across from you. 
“Sure, go ahead.” You jumped when he sat down right next to you. “Uh, you wanna move to the other side?”
“Nah, I don’t. I want to talk to you omega.” You glared at his use of your presentation. He smirked at you, snaking an arm around the back of the booth.
“Well that sucks for you. I’m not interested,” you sneered, slightly baring your teeth. Marcus’ face dropped to annoyance. “I think it’s best for you to leave. Go wait for your friend at the host stand.”
“Yeah? I think it would be best for you to listen when an alpha is speaking.” You rolled your eyes. So he was one of those alphas: pig-headed, easily agitated, and couldn't take no for an answer. “I’ve seen the way you look at me in class. You want me just as bad as I want you.”
“As if! I only ever look at you if you’re presenting your code, you jackass,” you spat and crossed your arms over your chest. 
“I don’t believe that, Y/N. Your scent is always sweeter when you look at me.” And this was why you usually wore scent blockers to class. You could count the number of times you went to class without them on one hand.
“Dude, leave me alone or I will call over the manager.” Marcus scowled at your threat. For a tense moment, he sat in a seething silence. Your glare didn’t falter, which only pissed him off more. Then the hand that was resting on the booth snapped to the back of your neck. You jolted and shoved yourself further into the corner of the booth. Marcus lunged forward, aiming for your neck. You yelped at the feeling of his teeth scraping your scent gland. 
You jabbed your fingers into Marcus’ ribs, loosening his grip on your neck. You quickly ducked under the table and crawled into the aisle. You scoffed in shock. Did this asshole really just try to force a claim on you?!
“What. The. Fuck, Marcus?” You hissed at your classmate. He leapt out of the booth and you stumbled back a few steps. You turned and rushed up to the host stand. She wasn’t there, but two men stood by the stand. They wore masks and scrolled on their phones while they waited for the host to return. The taller of the pair wore a black hoodie, and the other wore a bomber jacket. Without thinking, you wiggled your way between the pair. They looked down at you, eyebrows raised. 
“Hi! Please hide me,” you pleaded. They glanced up at each other before returning to you. You gave a weak smile and puppy eyes.
“Come on, babe. You don’t need to bother these guys just because you’re mad at me,” Marcus lied smoothly. Any indication of anger had disappeared as he pulled the amused boyfriend act. The taller man (that you were currently hiding behind) moved his gaze from you to Marcus. 
“I’m so sorry to bother you-”
“Hey, use English. You know I don’t understand Korean. I don’t want you lying to make yourself look like the victim,” Marcus interrupted. You looked to the man behind you. His eyebrows were furrowed, somewhere between confusion and anger.
“Do you know this guy?” He asked, stepping a tiny bit closer. Marcus glared at the stranger. 
“Yeah, he’s my classmate. He came up to me and asked to sit with me while he waited for a friend,” you began rambling. They listened intently, but didn’t look away from Marcus. The smell of his anger was burning the back of their throats. “Anyway, he didn’t like that I refused a date, so he tried to force a claiming bite on me.” 
“What?!” The shorter of the two exclaimed and turned back to you. The one in front of you stayed locked on Marcus, even though he startled at your admission. 
“Listen, I don’t know what she’s saying to you, but she’s my girlfriend and she’s just pissed I was late,” Marcus cut in. You subconsciously grabbed the sleeve of the man in front of you, just in case Marcus tried to grab you again. 
“I swear, he is just a classmate. We’re not dating. Hell, we aren’t even friends!” You huffed. 
“Oh, for fuck’s sake, let’s go, Y/N. You’ve wasted enough of these guys’ time,” Marcus demanded and stepped forward. You felt a hand on the small of your back. The man in front of you angled his arm to shield you from your approaching classmate. 
“Yea, I don’t think I believe you,” the taller man drawled in a heavy accent. He tilted his head, sizing up the irritated alpha.
“Dude, come on. She’s fucking lying to you!”
“So? Even if her story is fake, you’re still walking around a restaurant angry and with no scent blockers,” the guy behind you spoke up. You sagged in relief. 
“From where I stand, you look like an alpha trying to use his smell as intimidation,” the taller man concluded. Marcus scowled and clenched his fists. The man in the hoodie removed your hand from his sleeve, pushing you toward his friend. He stepped up to Marcus, towering over him. He glowered down at your classmate. He didn’t falter even as the bell above the door jingled. A fourth man paused at the door, surveying the scene in front of him. 
“Seonghwa, Mingi looks like he’s about to throw hands with some guy,” the newcomer turned and shouted behind him. You heard a soft ‘eh?!’ then multiple sets of hurried footsteps. Six men squeezed into the waiting area of the restaurant. 
“Ah, fuck. San, help me get Mingi back. Yunho go get the manager,” a man with dark, chin-length hair instructed. He and two others sprang into action. One disappeared into the restaurant while the other two grabbed Mingi’s arms in an attempt to draw him back.
“Let go.” Mingi shook their hands off of him. “This asshole tried to force a claim bite on that girl!” Half of the group now stood around you, blocking you from Marcus’ sight.
There was a tense silence as Mingi and Marcus stared each other down. That was until Marcus growled and stepped toward you. Mingi swung without hesitation, punching your classmate square on the jaw. Marcus stumbled backwards.
“Motherfucker, you son of a bitch! I’ll fucking kill you,” Marcus snarled. You gasped. You didn’t think things would devolve to violence. Bomber jacket and one of his friends each shielded you with an arm. Mingi just titled his head at the threats, clearly not worried.
“WHAT is going on out here?!” A voice boomed as the group member returned with a middle-aged man marching in front of him.
“Ji-Won!” You called and pushed your way forward. The man turned to you and wrapped a protective arm around your shoulder. “Oppa, that guy is one of my classmates and he attacked me. I felt his teeth brush against my neck.” You shuddered. Ji-Won whipped his head around to Marcus.
“Leave my restaurant, you are not welcome here,” the elder snapped. Marcus glared around the room, chest heaving in anger.
“You better watch your fucking back, man.” He growled and cracked his neck before storming out the door. Everyone stared after him for a moment.
“Holy shit.” Ji-Won cast a face of disapproval at your language. “Thank you so, so much for your help.”
“No need to thank us. He was a creep, and I wasn’t about to let him take you,” the guy in the bomber jacket spoke up.
“Hongjoong, I cannot thank you enough. Y/N’s mother is a dear friend of mine. I don’t know what I would have done if something happened to her while under my supervision,” Ji-Won praised the young man. Hongjoong’s eyes crinkled in a hidden smile. 
“Have you had a chance to eat yet, my dear?” Ji-Won turned to you. You shook your head.
“Nah, Marcus showed up before Minali could even bring my drink.”
“Would you want to join us?” Several sets of confused eyes turned to Mingi, who just shrugged. You furrowed your eyebrows.
“Oh, I couldn’t intrude-”
“You wouldn’t be,” Hongjoong spoke up this time. You looked around at the other members of the group. Two of them looked confused, and one looked incredibly bored, but most were nodding in agreement.
“If you’re sure. Let me go grab my stuff,” you hesitantly agreed and turned to go back to the booth you were originally seated in. In your panic, you had abandoned all of your schoolwork and belongings.
Back in the waiting area, Mingi watched as you walked away. He was feeling protective, and he didn’t like letting you go on your own. 
Get a hold of yourself, you can’t be this overprotective to a girl you barely know! She looks cute in that skirt, though. Fuck, don’t look at her thighs. Don’t look at her thighs. Shit I looked, Jesus-
“Mingi, you good?” Wooyoung’s voice snapped him out of his inner ramblings. He sent the younger member a tight-lipped smile. The host informed the group that the private room was ready. They waited until you returned to head into the room. 
Well, this should be interesting, you thought as you sat down.

hello mr beemovieerotica sir, i want to work in roughly the same industry as you do later (all I know is that you are a [micro?]biologist who works in a lab) and I wanted to ask, what can I do to make me more employable? lol but like with desperation. I do live in Europe, but thanks to my adhd and my general dumbassery I am dragging a 3 year degree into the way too long length, and I wanted to ask if you maybe know something that could make me look cool and hot and employable to people who want to hire someone less incapable of doing uni lol. I have been doing tutoring during labs for one of my professor so I have like a tinnyyy bit of extra experience to show but honestly what I mostly do there is watch over the lower semesters and make sure they don't spray the clean benches with CHO cells as they work with cells and electronic pipettes for the first time
tbh what labs are looking for these days even more so than the practical hands-on experience at the bench, is knowledge of bioinformatics pipelines. that's what helped me cinch the job I'm currently in. everyone is trying to do -omics in their work (transcriptomics, metagenomics, lipidomics, etc etc) and the great thing about this is you don't even have to be in a lab to start learning it.
I'm going to recommend some online tutorials to check out BUT the thing to keep in mind is that the field is moving so quickly that things can get outdated literally within a year, and people move onto the next big thing. so the main thing is that you get comfortable coding more than anything and then adapt that down the road, rather than being like "this is the code/package/pipeline that I'm saving forever and will use on a future project someone will give to me."
I used QIIME and DADA2, and to my knowledge those are all still being used quite a bit by people doing microbiome / 16S community analyses. if you're not familiar with coding in R yet, then start there! these tutorials come with downloadable sample datasets so you can play around with making graphs and getting used to everything there.
I know I'm recommending stuff for one particular subset of all microbiology work that could be done, but I feel like everyone is obsessed with the microbiome these days and it's a good place to start. if you've already done that and want to try more tutorials/something specific to like RNA sequencing then let me know!

In addition to this, I also recently found this textbook titled Bioinformatics: An Introductory Textbook by Thomas Dandekar, Meik Kunz which focuses both on basic bioinformatics concepts and how to use the available tools. I especially like this book because I found it super easy to understand
EMBL also offers courses! even for synchronous online/in person courses that have ended, they tend to upload course materials. There's one for proteomics analyses as well- I've checked out the mass spectrometry videos under this course and they start with the very basics
In addition to these, here are some playlists on youtube that've helped:
Foundations of Systems and Computational Biology, MIT OpenCourseWare // classroom videos, I'd suggest to check specific videos for a topic of your choice rather than actually going through all of them

lastly, I don't know if this would be particularly helpful given what you're looking for, but this textbook on Computational Genomics with R is a blessing for Omics related Data Analysis. So if you ever need to use R in a biological context, this would be a great place to start

I maaaaay have spent most of my evening scrolling your dash. But, for my defense, you post good, Ma'am. Also I need someone to tell you your vocal tries are impressive. I tried to stay focused but your voice was so soft, that was lulling.
Anyway, uh, yeah. Question. I was here for a question.
I've just started my PhD, do you have any advice to handle the incoming workload and the pressure?

As for the question- a PhD experience is highly, highly variable. My advice is going to be strongly based on my own experiences, and my own program. It's probably more applicable if you're in a wet lab science, but still, take it with a grain of salt.
A big thing to realize about a PhD is that it isn't necessarily the sheer quantity of work you'll be doing, but how different the pace and the kind of work you do is from undergrad or a more typical job. Compared to undergrad, your classes will be far less important to nonexistent. Your time will mostly be split between research/thesis related projects, and teaching, depending on the teaching workload.
Your experiences with your research are going to vary a lot, but in general, your PI/research advisor basically determines everything. The #1, big, massive, blinking, do-not-avoid piece of advice I will give about grad school is: pick your research advisor carefully. Do NOT prioritize the exact, nitpicky subfield you want to work in. Your PhD doesn't determine the direction of the rest of your career. Instead, you HAVE to consider whether this is a person you can work for/with for the next 5-7 years. Do you want a more "hands on" person that will set short term goals, or someone that will leave you alone and just check in infrequently to help with long term goals? Do you communicate well with them? What's the word in the department about their mentorship style long term? Avoid people who take pride in trying to "challenge" you, invariably they're shitheads preying on people with more work ethic than self worth (may or may not be based on personal experience lol).
You might be past this point, depending on how your program works- for me, I had a year of rotations before settling in lab permanently. Unless you're a direct admit with an advisor you already know, I would basically consider this or a similar system to be a requirement of a program.
Beyond that, even if you end up in a more "hands on" environment, independence is key. Of course you should collaborate and ask people to help you, but in both a motivation and a practical sense, you should be able to work on your own and take initiative. You need to interpret your own findings and set your own direction for where they're going to go. You need to analyze whether that's in your capability and how you're going to get it done. My personal little advice is to always have at least one thing going on that you can do with zero to minimal input from anyone- for me, this takes the form of computational bioinformatics work that doesn't require any lab resources and most other people in my lab don't have the toolkit to do. Main projects or side projects like this allow you to get *something* done, even if you're stuck in a rut otherwise.
But then there's the flip side to that- you're almost always going to be your own worst critic. Pace yourself. You'll always feel like you're not getting enough done, and you'll fight that feeling constantly. Hell, writing this is like me telling on myself and leaving my own reminder for myself. Balance this with your ability to work independently. Be deliberate about your recreation time and keep yourself to it as well.
The PI selection is the only one that's like, a super strong piece of advice here. But I hope the rest was at least a bit useful!

A table set for eight now held nine people – four on one side, three on the other, and two at each head of the table. You, being one of the smaller members of the group, were sat on the side with four chairs. 
“Thank you, again, for your help and for letting me eat with you. I’m Y/N, by the way,” you introduced. You looked around the table as each member of the pack told you their names. The side of the table with four chairs sat Yeosang, you, Wooyoung, and Yunho. Across from you were Mingi, San, and Jongho, with Hongjoong and Seonghwa at the heads of the table.
“So that guy is your classmate, and he thought you were flirting with him just by looking at him?” Yeosang raised his eyebrows as you nodded. “Wow, I couldn’t imagine being that arrogant.”
“I think Mingi knocked him down a peg,” Wooyoung snickered and bumped his shoulder against yours. Mingi turned to his lap, the tips of his ears turning red.
“Hm, I hope so, but he was still aggressive when he left,” you shrugged. “I’ll have to email my professor to let her know what happened.”
“Ooh, what are you in school for?” Seonghwa probed, chin resting on his hand. 
“I’m in bioinformatics,” you grinned. “I want to work at the Research Institute for Infectious Diseases.” A round of impressed “ooo”s rippled across the table. You were bombarded with questions about your major and your career plans, which you were more than happy to ramble on about. You only paused to place your order before delving back into describing your current coding project. 
“Woah, I think my brain would break if I had to do all of that,” Wooyoung whistled. He and Yeosang peeped over your shoulders to look at your code after you opened your laptop. You giggled, closing your incomplete project to show them how a functional code works. You glanced up at movement across the table. Mingi was massaging his bruising knuckles, wincing on the especially tender spots. 
“Mingi, are you okay? Your hand looks like it hurts,” you asked, eyebrows scrunching in concern. Mingi jumped, like he wasn’t expecting you to address him directly.
“Yeah, I’ll be fine,” he reassured. “What about you, though? You keep picking at your patches.”
“Ah, I don’t really like using blocker patches. I think my skin is sensitive, cus they always start itching after a few hours,” you explained. “But I ran out of the cream I normally use.”
“I have a roll-on scent blocker if you want to take the patches off,” Seonghwa offered. 
“Really? That would be great, thank you!” You stood to go to the restroom, but you were stopped by Yeosang holding your wrist.
“You can just change them here. We are in a private room, after all,” he insisted while pulling you back down to sit. Seonghwa’s blocker was passed down the table, so you figured they weren’t going to let you argue. 
“Honestly, it’s no big deal to change them in the restroom,” you grumbled to yourself and peeled off the irritating patches. You sighed in relief, gently scratching where the adhesive had turned your skin pink. You popped the lid off of the roll-on blocker, pausing when all conversation suddenly stopped. You looked up and were met with five sets of eyes already staring at you. 
“Is… uh, is everything alright?” You faltered. Wooyoung, San, and Jongho appeared just as confused as you. Wooyoung leaned down to sniff at your neck. “Woo! Personal space, please.” You covered your scent glands with your hands.
“I’m so sorry!” Seonghwa snapped out of his daze. “We weren’t trying to make you uncomfortable, it’s just –”
“You smell like pack,” San realized. Your eyes widened, looking to the others for confirmation. Almost everyone nodded, but Hongjoong, Mingi, and Yunho were practically starstruck.
“Are any of you wearing a blocker that can be removed easily?” You twisted the roll-on in your hand nervously. 
“Me, Yunho, and San have on patches. We can take them off, if you want?” Yeosang volunteered. 
“Please.” San and Yeosang peeled off their patches, revealing their scents. You leaned a bit closer to your fellow omega since he was closer to you. 
“I’ll be damned, you really do smell like pack.” You slouched in your chair, arms crossed lazily over your chest. You stared at Yeosang in wonder, and he poked your cheek with a smirk.
“Yunho, you gonna take yours off?” San kicked his foot under the table. Yunho jolted, mouth opening and closing without sound. Hongjoong’s gaze flickered between you, Mingi, and Yunho.
“Y/N, I think the three of us are getting a different scent from you,” the leader chuckled, almost in disbelief.
“What do you mean?” You sat up straight again, hands falling to your lap. Oh god, what if they weren’t pack? Is that even possible? How can you be pack for only some of them? What – 
“Mate,” Mingi sighed happily. Your jaw dropped, but you were interrupted by servers bringing in plates of food. They politely ignored the fact that you, San, and Yeosang weren’t wearing blockers. Hongjoong cleared his throat after the staff members left.
“Alright, everyone put your scent blockers back on. Let’s eat, then we can go back to the dorms to talk about this.” Everyone quickly obeyed, reapplying scent blockers and digging into their meals.

The rest of lunch went by without any other surprises. You chatted with the boys about all of your jobs, hobbies, and other interests. You were surprised to find quite a bit in common with them, from music to TV shows to favorite foods. After paying and bidding your goodbyes to Ji-Won, the nine of you stepped out onto the sidewalk.
“I’m not sure how far your dorms are, but my apartment is a ten minute walk,” you offered. They immediately agreed since going to your apartment meant being surrounded by your scent. You led the way while having a heated debate with Yunho about who would win in a fight between Iron Man and Batman (the obvious answer is Iron Man). You eventually had to stop the debate to unlock your door so everyone could file in. 
“Your apartment is so cute,” Seonghwa complimented. You decorated your space into the perfect mix of sleek, charming, and spooky. San placed your backpack next to the breakfast bar since he had insisted he carry it for you. 
“Make yourselves comfortable!” You plopped onto your plush loveseat. Yeosang and Seonghwa quickly stole the spots on either side of you, leaving the others to sit on the floor (or the bean bag chair in Hongjoong’s case). 
“Right,” Hongjoong started with a clap. “We know that you’re an omega. You know that Yeosang and San are an omega and a beta, respectively. I think the next step is introducing you to the rest of our scents.”
“Of course, but please go one at a time. I’d like to actually be able to tell whose scent is whose,” you agreed. Since you were already familiar with Yeosang and San, they were the first to remove their blocker patches. Seonghwa went next, wiping off his blocker with a damp paper towel. 
“Two omegas! I don’t have many omega friends, the people in my classes are mostly alphas and betas.” You perked up and smiled brightly at the elder omega. Wooyoung and then Jongho removed their blockers, allowing you to identify them as betas. You felt your heart swell as more of their scents mixed together and enveloped you in the feeling of pack. You looked to the final three, eager to know their scents.
“You first, Yunho. You and Mingi have more mellow scents than me,” Hongjoong instructed. Yunho nodded and peeled his patches off. You were hit with a gentle mix of lotus flowers and myrrh, a very mild scent for an alpha. Mingi followed suit, his comforting scent reminded you of a campfire on an autumn night. Hongjoong rounded out the group, and he was definitely right, his scent was the strongest out of everyone. You grinned and stared at the three alphas in a daze. 
“I think you guys broke her,” Wooyoung snickered and poked your thigh. You inhaled sharply and shook your head to refocus yourself.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to space out.”
“No need to apologize, sweetheart,” Seonghwa chimed in. He ran his thumb across your knuckles. “I’d be surprised if you didn’t zone out. You’re getting practically slammed by pack and mate scents.”
“Uh, I don’t want to be the buzzkill here, but I’m worried about that classmate of yours,” Jongho interjected. “I don’t want him starting shit during your next lecture.”
“I did email my professor while we were eating. She said she would alert campus security just in case, but she will try to keep Marcus away from me.” 
“Would you be alright with us scenting you?” Mingi gestured to himself and his fellow alphas. Your eyebrows shot up to your hairline.
“It’s not a bad idea,” Hongjoong shrugged. “At least until you’re ready to accept our bond marks.” 
“I don’t mind, if you think it’ll help.” You blushed furiously at the mere thought of the pack alpha sinking his teeth into you. You received nods of approval all around.
“I also want you to wear my necklace,” San announced. 
“Wha– what?”
“Don’t think too hard on it,” Yeosang whispered. “San gets protective over the pack members. He made me and Wooyoung wear his jewelry and clothes the entire time we didn’t have our pack marks.” 
“Fuck it, let’s do it.”

The next morning you met up with the pack’s alphas at a small coffee shop after your 9 am class finished. Yunho handed you a bag containing much more jewelry than you anticipated. Despite your casual clothes, you were now decked out with San’s silver chain, Wooyoung’s star earrings, leather cord bracelets from Seonghwa and Yeosang, and a cute teddy bear pin from Jongho. 
“The others decided they also wanted a way to show you’re taken,” Hongjoong chuckled. “Can I send them a photo?” You nodded and posed so all of the jewelry showed. Your phone instantly blew up with texts from your newly formed group chat. You giggled at the outrageous compliments being thrown your way, but focused yourself after checking the time.
“Okay, okay, I have to leave for my next class soon. Do what you gotta do.” You tucked your phone in your pocket and pulled your hair into a bun so it would be out of the way. Yunho politely scented you, nuzzling his nose into your neck and cheek, pulling away with a quick kiss to your forehead. Mingi and Hongjoong, however, did not have the same self control. They took turns pressing open-mouthed kisses to your neck and collarbones, sprinkling tiny nips along your sensitive skin. You felt them smirk into your skin when you squeaked at them licking over your scent glands. Hongjoong pulled you into one final, real kiss by the back of your neck. The three stepped back, admiring the mix of the pack’s scents with your own and smiling in satisfaction at your deep blush.
“I think this should get the message across,” Mingi commented with a shit-eating grin. You glared at him light-heartedly as you fanned your face with your hands. “Seriously, though, if he gives you any kind of trouble, text us.”
“I will,” you promised. You gave them each a hug goodbye before grabbing your backpack and heading to class, pointedly ignoring the odd look you got from the barista. Honestly, you were nervous about seeing Marcus again, especially since you weren’t wearing scent blockers today. You hoped that being absolutely covered in the pack’s scents would get through his thick skull. You were one of the first in the lecture hall, taking your usual seat by the window. Your classmates slowly trickled in as you once again pulled up your code. Your friend Nari, a sweet beta and one of the few girls in your class, took the seat next to you.
“Girl, what are all these scents on you?!” She teased with a poke to your ribs. You snickered and swatted her hand away before quickly recapping everything that happened in the last 24 hours. Nari stared at you, dumbfounded and jaw dropped.
“No fucking way,” she scoffed. “I’m sorry that Marcus tried that with you, but I’m also so happy you found your pack! And your mates!” She squealed that last part and you had to shush her after receiving glares from the people around you. The door opened again, and Marcus sauntered in, his gaze already locking on to you. His expression grew angrier the closer he got to you.

“What the fuck is wrong with you?!” He snapped once he stood in front of your table. 
“Excuse me?” You glared at him, putting venom at the edge of your voice. 
“You told our professor that I attacked you.” He slammed his hands onto the table, making Nari jump beside you. “And now you show up to class covered in other people’s clothes and scents. Let me guess, it’s those guys you hid behind at the restaurant.”
“So what if it is? You don’t tell me what to do, dickhead,” you sneered back at him.
“Y/N, what’s happening?” Nari’s voice trembled and she held tightly to your arm. You patted her hand in reassurance but refused to break eye contact with Marcus.
“You’re a fucking slut, throwing yourself at a whole goddamn pack just to diss me,” he snarled. Nari yelped as you shot out of your seat.
“Get this through your thick fucking skull, Marcus,” you hissed furiously. “I don’t fucking like you. I did not ‘throw myself’ at another pack for something as petty as scorning you. So leave me the fuck alone.”
“You bitch–”
“Mr. Williams, is there an issue here?” Dr. Seong interrupted cooly, one eyebrow arched in question. You sighed in relief. Even if Marcus wouldn’t listen to you, he had too much respect for your professor to defy her. He gaped, mouth opening and closing but unable to form an excuse. “I think it would be best for you to take a seat, one far from Ms. Y/LN.”
“Y-yes ma’am,” Marcus stammered and moved to sit at a table at the opposite corner of the room. Dr. Seong huffed and turned to you.
“I apologize, Ms. Y/LN. I will speak to Mr. Williams after class,” she reassured you. “I must say, it was a bold move showing up scented by your pack. Good work.” You beamed at her compliment and tiny smile. Dr. Seong was an extremely serious and professional woman, so you were elated at the recognition. She nodded before taking her place at the front of the lecture hall. You sat back down and pulled out your phone. It had been buzzing nonstop for the last few minutes. When you suddenly stopped replying, it worried the pack. You quickly filled them in on what happened and assured them that you were alright. They weren’t satisfied until you agreed to come to their dorms after your classes were finished for the day, although it didn’t really take much convincing.
