Labor and delivery nurse Hesen Jabr, who is Palestinian American, was being honored by NYU Langone Health for her compassion in caring for mothers who had lost babies when she drew a link between her work and the suffering of mothers in Gaza. “It pains me to see the women from my country going through unimaginable losses themselves during the current genocide in Gaza,” Jabr said, according to a video of the May 7 speech that she posted on social media. “This award is deeply personal to me for those reasons.” Jabr wrote on Instagram that she arrived at work on May 22 for her first shift back after receiving the award when she was summoned to a meeting with the hospital’s president and vice president of nursing “to discuss how I ‘put others at risk’ and ‘ruined the ceremony’ and ‘offended people’ because a small part of my speech was a tribute towards the grieving mothers in my country.” She wrote that after working most of her shift she was “dragged once again to an office” where she was read her termination letter and then escorted out of the building.

Hey guys, update on my housing situation!

My family and I are still homeless and in our RV, we are on the waiting list for affordable rent-controlled housing that we can afford as a family of four on disability, but the demand vastly outweighs the supply and they use a raffle system weighted by how long you’ve been on the list and a few other factors, and my parents are expecting it could take us up to a year to get in. In the meantime, our RV currently doesn’t have running water or electricity, and now that we finally finished getting our belongings into storage we got the generator looked at and it turns out it is COOKED and needs full replacing, as well as much wiring needing to be redone because of water damage from leaks. We are barely floating by with disability money covering current bills, storage unit, gas and food, so I spoke with my dad about the expected expenses and to add up the costs of the products he was looking at and estimates it could cost us about $2400, but that’s WAY more than we can afford on our own so I’m asking again, if you can share this post or even toss some money big or small at us keeping a roof over our heads and getting our fridge running so we’re not constantly fretting about food going bad overnight if the RV gets too warm haha.

Looking for some help saving for a finance/accountants degree. I am barely scraping by working in fast food and am struggling to get on my feet in society.

Unlike the stereotypical accountant, my dream is to be able to educate people on how they can get the most of their money while also giving them advice on how to save for the future. I was always walked over when it came to my income and savings, so I truly want to help others avoid this.

Although I am still living at home, the costs of study will not be paid by family, as they are pretty tight financially as well. I am have resorted to using my childhood home as a place to sleep for less than the average rentable house in my area - we're talking like $500 a week for a decent apartment with minimal issues.

Obviously I'm not expecting a lot to come out of this, considering most people are struggling too, but even just sharing this post will help get this out there to people who are in a better position to donate. Even little amounts mean the world to me, and I will try my best to fight for a better future.
