Another failed tuning appointment today. I knew it the second I opened the lid. This can be repaired but I didn’t bring pipe clamps nuts and bolts and the appropriate drill and drill bits, besides I only scheduled time for a tuning. It’s always a warm delicious treat to sit down with James Lee Stanley. There’s a reason he’s opened for everyone from Bonnie Raitt, Art Garfunkle, Bill Cosby (before we knew), Robin Williams, Dionne Warwick, Robin Trower, and Steven Wright for 3 years. His 50+ years of friendship and musical partnership with Peter Tork were covered from start till two days before Peter’s passing when he was felled by rare cancer under his tongue. Shockingly, James survived his own bout of tongue cancer months later, when his beloved wife Evelina suggested an endoscopy, without cause. James was back performing mere months later. Last September, days after sitting down with us here, James fell off his roof, for the first time not under the watchful eye of his Evelina, broke his back, was airlifted for surgery, took no pain meds, and did a concert two weeks after surgery. This is a substance- sans substances. 

James treated us to a solo rendition of All I Ever Wanted, one of the many songs he and Peter recorded together.  Just today he posted a video of them performing it: https://youtu.be/9VmeUvSYS1A. James also treated us to fab, funny, apropos, Wake The Flock Up, one of my favorite cuts from his All Wood And Doors, Moonlight Drive, and to the ink just dried, brand new, Carnival. Gorgeous vocals and stunning guitars are James’ trademarks. 

We talked about his All Wood And Stones, Doors, and Led series, what inspired it, the players who’ve graced it, his upcoming album, his 36th, the documentary, The Opening Act – The Extraordinary Journey of James Lee Stanley directed by documentarian Gary J Katz (Badfinger, Humble Pie, Steve Marriott, Manassas), which has received a Peoples Choice Award,  was in the London Lift-Off Film Festival and was accepted into the LA, Chicago, and Atlanta Film Festivals, awaiting judging.

Y’know one of my favorite things with Redux and Iterum is that the people are aware of the Clans. It always felt odd in canon that the people seemed… oblivious to large groups of cats living in the woods. It’s one of the few background information that I love with the rewrite. With my favorite thing about them that they have names for the Clan cats which I find adorable

But I must ask this, for the human researchers, do they have a favorite cat from each of the Clans. Or are they a “I don’t have a favorite child” type people. Actually Y’know what I’d kill to have a spin-off piece of just these people observing cats, I’d love to have that job! It wouldn’t be horribly interesting, but it would be fun to see

I'm glad you like that! It makes more sense to me that humans know about the colonies purely for how unusual they are, plus I like the idea that humans can appreciate them on a deeper level. They're a valuable resource when it comes to tourists, because everyone likes cats and casual fans and breeders want to see the colors and patterns that don't exist in any other feral colony.

As for your question: like how Yellowstone researchers are careful to avoid attachment to the wolves they study (to the point that they give the wolves numbers instead of names), the conservators and researchers of Chell Park do their best to treat all of the cats equally - that is, neutrally and as a topic of study, not a pet. The people dealing with the park the most can pick out individual cats thanks to the wide variety of colors and shapes the colonies come in, of course. However, the general policy is to not get attached to one specific subject or another, for the sake of keeping the cats as free of human interaction and influence as possible.

But, you know humans. We're going to see a feral cat and secretly give it a name while swearing up and down that it's just a feral cat and we don't care about it. I'm sure the volunteers and officials all see at least one member of the colonies and think something alone the lines of "Aww, there goes Hobbles, I was wondering where he went" or "Dainty had a baby and it looks just like her! That's sweet". Even if there's no going into the territories unless there's an urgent need to, they can loosely keep track of their "not-at-all-favorites" by visits to the borders. Good thing the cats walk around the borders all the time!

I adore this man and his music… he wants you to know, his hair still hasn’t grown back. I’ll happily take him as is. He’s got “it” with or without it.

The #dragon #seax for @wickedfairie is complete! The #woodgrain #sheath turned out amazing! I wish you all could see it in person. The copper fire scale on the handle is very cool with a nice gradient patina from quenching it in borax infused water. The dragon has deep dark eyes and a pretty cool head shape. Specs: Blade = 8.5" of 220(ish) layers of alternating 15N20 and 1084 Handle = 5.75" with copper handle scales and a dragon head #ringpommel OAL = 14.25" Thickness at base of spine = 7/32" Thickness at break = 5/32" POB = plunge Loved the whole process thank you all for inspiring and watching!
