Progress progresses slowly, but is progressing nonetheless! (Context: I just started a summer job and the initial shock of the grind is hitting a bit hard)
It Takes a Village – When villages crash land into each other... the first thing they'd likely do is... bring their townsfolk together to found an even cooler and more diverse village! You'll notice multiple buildings that bear resemblance to the original games.
My Home Away From Home – Gee... they may have fled together, but these folks seem to be reserving their own spaces to establish base. Well... even if their crafting materials don't quite mix, they can always fill a buffet table to share around. :)
Also... is that a castle wall they're forming over on the east? Who could be so protective to be forming such a defensive?

[Image: Comic panel of the character Forager in the foreground. He isn’t wearing his helmet, has a hand pointing in the hair, and has some goop on his chest and arms. Metron is superimposed behind him sitting in the Mobius chair in the same pose. Forager says, “Metron’d be all like--” and Metron finishes the dialog, “He’s not dead, merely dormant. Science blah blah blah.” /End]
You know what, Forager? Metron really would be all like.

Dating Mattheo Riddle meant going on wild adventures. Today, you got to choose your activity. “You know I love to get dirty, but this is not what I had in mind,” he said as he took the basket you offered him, skeptical. You were going foraging through the woods.
“I’ll make it worth your while,” you smirked and led him deeper into the woods. “That’s what I like to hear,” he said. When you started telling him about the different plants and bugs you saw, he realized you meant something else. Of course nothing about you was predictable. It was why he liked being with you in the first place.
The more flowers and fruits filled your baskets, the more intently he listened to you. Through you, he saw the forest anew. A kingdom filled with stories and magic. For the first time in a long time, he felt childlike wonder. The forest was magical not because of its inherent power, but because of you.

How would all three yans react to having children? Good or bad?
This is actually such a fun prompt and ask! Thank you for sending it in. I'd actually love to write a full post sometime instead of a small little drabble about this! It'd be so much fun imaging one of their daily routines and lives with a family.
Atticus:
-Isn't really that interested in kids unless his darling wants them. At first, he'll try to talk his darling out of it. Gives lists of reasons on why he can't be a dad. Eventually, comes around to it if his darling really wants them.
-He's a strict and stoic father. Makes sure the kids go to bed at a certain time, finish their chores and do their homework. The kids have to be punctual.
-Not a fan of extreme harsh punishments at all. No taking away meals, locking in closets or any of the sorts. Especially, hitting if they don't listen. (His parents used to do it to him which has resulted in a traumatized farmer)
-More type of look at the consequences of your actions. You don't do your homework, then you fail your class. You don't collect eggs from the chicken coop, no eggs for breakfast. You don't feed the dogs, look at them go hungry. (The doggies don't actually go hungry since Atticus secretly feeds them, they're just always begging for food)
-Shows he loves them through his actions instead of words. He'll take them special getaway trips, go bird watching, catch bugs, make presents, etc. He wants his kids to know that he loves them despite his strict behavior. He's trying to break the cycle of generational abuse that came from his parents. It's hard ngl but he makes an effort every day to overcome it.
For readers who imagine pregnancy:
-kisses your belly when you're asleep. Reassures the baby that he'll always take care of them. He would never do it when you're awake since he's nervous you'll deem him as less than manly or "strong".
-Does not let you work on the farm at all!! He hires extra farmhands to replace your usual help. Lectures and scolds you when you try to do anything. Don't you know that an accident could happen any time especially somewhere dangerous like this farm??
-Your safety and the baby's safety are top priority at all times.
-Watches films and tv shows about pregnancy and families. He makes sure to remember all the details so he can be the best father just like on the tv!
-No sexy time at all when pregnant! He's afraid it'll injure the baby. Only complies when his darling coaxes him into it but even then, it took a while.
Orion:
-Hella yea. The only one who's willing to jump on board and be excited for them. Takes the kids out on daily foraging and exploration nearby the home. Teaches them how to jot down information.
-Shows them his notes on all different types of plants, creatures and landscapes. Tells them which things to avoid and how to survive if in contact with dangerous creatures.
-Kids grow an immunity to his terrible cooking. Actually, enjoy it and treat is as an odd delicacy to be savored.
-The children are taught both languages. Darling's for communicating with other members of the species but his in case they need to talk, and others are listening in.
-Reminds the kids how much he adores them and their mother every day. Tells them tales about his home world and adventures with their mother.
-However, his favorite story to tell is about how their mother heroically saved him from death and starvation. Sometimes he embellishes details like
"Oh, your mother also fell in love at first sight with me. They were just too shy to admit it, but I could tell."
-The real question though, are human species able to get darling's species pregnant???
For readers who imagine pregnancy:
-Does darling get pregnant like a human? Orion will have to find out. However, I imagine the way of getting pregnant to be similar, but they don't give birth. Instead, an egg like thing forms within their reproductive system and they push out something similar to an egg.
-The egg would hatch within two months after growing to full term.
-Orion has built a nest for the egg and watches it every night. Proudly tells the egg about all the adventures they'll go on as family.
-Darling insists that Orion doesn't need to baby the egg since the shell is quite strong. Still, he doesn't listen and frets over any small movement from it. Makes little hats and scarves and dresses the egg in it.
-Orion makes sure to take so many notes during this period. What color is the egg? How long before it hatches? How many times does it move in an hour?
-He takes notes in case darling and him decide to have another egg baby. He'll be more prepared second round.
-Enjoys setting the mood up for some sexy time. He feeds you the right food, sets up the small hut just right and everything. Ofc he'll makes sure to cover the baby egg with a blanket. He doesn't want your baby egg to see anything inapposite after all.
Ivar:
-He'd want to wait a few years into marriage. The idea of kids is daunting. He's seen the worse of man and how destructive the world can be. Really nervous about letting kids out into that type of environment. Still, he does desire a family that you'll raise together.
-He's a fun goofy dad. Takes all the stress of the kids when he arrives home. Plays with them, teases them and drains all their energy so you can relax. I'd imagine that Ivar insists that you be a stay-at-home mom while he goes to work.
-Listens to his kid's problems from boyfriend issues to " I can't believe they cancelled my show". Actively enjoys listening to his kids talk about anything and everything.
-Signs his kids up for self-defense classes. He's aware that there's so many dangers in the world and he can't always be there to help. They've got to be prepared for anything that could happen.
-Supports his kids in all their activities. Shows up to every single game, recital, spelling bee, etc. Whatever it maybe, he'll be there. Wants them to know he cares about them and their interests.
-Doesn't really enjoy mentioning stories from his time at war to them. He's afraid it'll corrupt their world view and he want them to live a peaceful life :(
For readers who imagine pregancy:
-Ivar reads up on all those mom-blogs and pregnancy books. Puts headphones on your belly so your baby can listen to Mozart. Does it actually do anything? Idk the mom blog says it stimulates baby growth or something like that.
-You have a strong craving at 1 in the morning? He's on the case to get it for you. If he can't find it any stores, then he'll drive over to the next few towns to get it. He's so determined to find it.
-loves decorating the baby's nursery. He'll put up decorations and different decals for the baby. Also enjoys building things for it such as dresser and the crib.
-Also doesn't let you by yourself. You want to talk a walk around the neighborhood by yourself? Nope. He's right there holding your hand or pushing you in a wheelchair.
-loves to initiate sexy time with you. During his mom blog reading, he read that it was a great past time while pregnant. Plus, he loves you no matter what you look like even if you're insecure about your changing body.

We made it, you guys! I'm wrapping up my blitz through all the Fourth World canon. I've already covered the comics of the 70s, the 80s, the 90s, and the 00s, so now let's get into everything post-Flashpoint!
Wonder Woman (2011): I'll be honest: this series is Not Valid, and Orion only shows up as a supporting character for about a dozen issues, so I just skimmed his appearances rather than actually reading the whole volume. Anyway this version of Orion slaps Diana's ass and hits on her relentlessly and isn't even from Apokolips. Highfather is emotionally abusive. No one else from the Fourth World even shows up. Throw it all directly in the trash.
Infinity Man and the Forever People (2014): Genuinely who was asking for a New 52 book about the Forever People (the most optimistic of Kirby's creations) written by Dan DiDio (a man on the record as saying he wanted "to take the smile out of comics")? Shockingly, it's not as bad as I was bracing myself for. I mean, the lore changes are baffling (Darkseid and Highfather are brothers! the Infinity Man is Highfather's conscience and that's why New 52 Highfather's such a dick all the time! Big Bear is from Apokolips and has a secret, angrier face because he's like a bonus Orion now!). And the art rotates through four or five different artists and all of the issues not drawn by Tom Grummett are hideous. But mostly it's just very boring and pointless? Let's all ignore it forever.
Green Lantern/New Gods (2014): Hey, do you remember when Green Lantern was one of DC's most successful franchises and they were publishing five simultaneous GL-related ongoings and they oversaturated the market so badly they could barely keep one GL book going until recently? I'm not saying shit like this is what killed the goose that laid the golden egg, but...I'm not not saying that either. (No seriously, I am genuinely fascinated by whatever the fuck DC did to the Lanterns in the 2000s and 2010s as, like, a publishing cautionary tale, but that's a story for another post.)
This was a three-month crossover across all five GL books - Green Lantern (Hal's book), Green Lantern Corps (John's book), Green Lantern: New Guardians (Kyle's book), Red Lanterns (Guy's book), and Sinestro - plus a New Gods one shot and a GL annual. That's 17 issues that are meant to be read in order to follow the story, and then you can optionally also read the tie-in issues of Infinity Man and the Forever People, which makes a whopping total of 20 issues dedicated to this storyline.
So what was the plot of this grand saga? Uh...Highfather tries to steal all the rings of every Corps like he's the fucking Trix Rabbit or something. The end.
Yeah, it's a mystery what killed the GL publishing juggernaut. 🙄
(Side note: this crossover adds a brand new Original Character Do Not Steal who is from Apokolips and was raised by Highfather and has a Secret Rage Face. After Infinity Man and the Forever People also gave Big Bear a Secret Rage Face. STOP STEALING ORION'S SHIT. You don't need extra bonus Orions, Regular Orion is right there!)
Bug! The Adventures of Forager (2017): This is a very charming, very strange series that isn't in continuity (it was part of the Young Animal imprint) and doesn't really forward the plot of the New Gods in any way, but it's funny and enjoyable. Basically, Forager wakes up after his death in Cosmic Odyssey (29 years prior, for those keeping track) and goes on a time- and reality-hopping adventure in which he interacts with various characters Kirby wrote and drew for DC over the years (although oddly, very few New Gods). It's the sort of series that rewards the long-time comic book reader, but I still enjoyed it even though I was very aware I was missing references. I wouldn't recommend it if you're brand new to comics, though.
Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps (2016): Orion's in a couple arcs of this run, and they're pretty fun. Orion's heart gets removed from his body and Kyle keeps him alive with a construct! Hal races Lightray! Orion helps the GLs fight a shit ton of Darkstars! There isn't much in the way of advancing New Gods Lore (TM) here, but this is a pretty good series in general. A fun time!
Mister Miracle (2017): Sigh.
You know, the frustrating thing about this series is that some aspects of it are really good. The art is superb. Some of the humor really lands. Funky Flashman as the Frees' nanny is an utter delight. (The bit where he retells the Galactus Trilogy as "Jake's story" is especially charming.) The subtler take on Granny and the way Scott is still wrestling with her abuse and his complicated feelings about her is heartbreaking. And the big twist, when Darkseid demands baby Jacob in exchange for peace, and Scott's agony over the decision, is utterly wrenching. It's such a good conflict to give Scott, to have him try to wrestle with the decision his own father made and what the right answer is. I even believe King read more than one issue of Mister Miracle (1971) to research this! I mean, he references the Lump. That's a pretty deep cut.
But it's all undercut by his decision to make Orion a villain. King's Orion isn't just brutal and wrongheaded, like some earlier writers have portrayed him - he's a vindictive sadist who craves power and enjoys humiliating someone who, in all previous canon, he eagerly embraced as a brother. He has elaborately cruel plans and enjoys making others know their place - Orion, who is historically as subtle and refined as a two-by-four to the head. He's out of character in basically every possible way.
But this isn't just me being like "How dare you get my blorbo wrong?!" (That's my reaction to King's depiction of Lightray as a simpering toady.) Making Orion a villain, as I have said many times at this point, betrays a fundamental misunderstanding of the Fourth World's central concept, which is, like...not a hard concept to grok. The point of the baby swap isn't to see whether nature or nurture is stronger. It's that both babies grow up to be heroes. It's that good is stronger than evil. And if Orion isn't a hero, the whole thing falls apart. Instead, we get a bleak and fundamentally unbalanced take on the Fourth World that begins with a suicide attempt and ends with Scott resigning himself to a life from which he desperately wants to escape. And again, again, King's pessimism is mistaken for depth because someone else drew it real good.
Anyway I hate this comic, the end.
Justice League Odyssey (2018): The New Gods didn't really have a home base post-Flashpoint, which is why I'm covering so many books that aren't really New Gods books (Wonder Woman, the various GL books), because my crops are dying and I'm desperate for Orion to show up on his little scooter. Anyway this is actually first and foremost a Jessica Cruz book, which isn't really a complaint because I love her. Basically, Cyborg, Starfire, and Azrael (who is pretty OOC and also why is he here??? he doesn't know these people and he can't breathe in space?????) decide to go on an Illegal Space Adventure and Jessica tries to stop them and they all get swept up into an incredibly convoluted plan by Darkseid to turn everyone but Jessica into a NEW New God and take over the universe? Or maybe destroy it? UNCLEAR. Also the last time they all saw Darkseid he was a baby but now he's not anymore. How? UNCLEAR.
Darkseid kills Jessica but it doesn't take because she's the GOAT, but now he's taken control of Vic, Kori, and JPV, so Jessica has to team up with Orion, Blackfire, and Dex-Starr the Red Lantern cat to defeat Darkseid and rescue the others. Overall this book is so unrelentingly high stakes and cosmic that I kind of tuned out. After a while I just hit "we have to save the universe!!!" fatigue. But a huge part of the second half of the series is just Jessica yelling at Orion until he grumpily does what she tells him, and I truly could have read 40 more issues of that. I hope when it was all over he went and pouted at Lightray about how the Green Lantern was SO MEAN to him (he deserved it).
Verdict: Don't bother to read for New Gods continuity, do read if you love Jessica Cruz.
Mister Miracle: The Source of Freedom (2021): This book reintroduces Shilo Norman to the post-Flashpoint universe as a celebrity superhero and escape artist who aggressively protects his secret identity, because his predecessor Thaddeus Brown, who is Black in this series (and presumably going forward), had a public identity and dealt with horrible racism from the public. But his mask is partially torn off when he's attacked by N'vir Free, the daughter of Scott and Barda Free - who Shilo has never heard of. While Shilo tries to figure out who the Frees are and why N'vir thinks he stole her father's legacy, he also discovers that Thaddeus was secretly his grandfather, and has to unpack all of his emotional hangups about his own identity and legacy.
This is a great book for the humans of Kirby's Mister Miracle and a terrible one for the New Gods. Scott and Barda are not only dead, but their memories have been erased from most people's minds. N'vir is an awful character with a stupid name, and also a fascist dictator, which is...a choice for Scott and Barda's kid. (I'm assuming all of this is either taking place in a different universe than the main DCU, or has been retconned away, because Barda is currently appearing in Birds of Prey and is perfectly fine. And perfectly perfect. Please read Birds of Prey.) Orion does show up for a bit and he's great here, but he doesn't remember Scott either, which hurt my heart.
But it's a great book for Shilo, who gets to be a complicated, endearing but flawed protagonist instead of a sidekick who tends to get forgotten for years at a time. I'm a bit torn on having him be related to Thaddeus, since I like the idea of Shilo becoming a hero on his own smarts and spunkiness rather than inheriting it, but it allows for some really beautiful themes about legacy and being proud of where you come from, so it suits the story really well. And Oberon is a delight the whole way through (as always). Overall a good book, but somewhat to the side of the overall New Gods saga.
THE END. We did it, you guys! Now DC please greenlight a new New Gods book, thank you.
(Actually it should be double length and reversible so when you hold it one way it's a New Gods book and when you flip it to the "back" cover it's a Mister Miracle book and the stories intertwine. Do you see the vision???)

benrius headcannon: ben tries to make darius go camping and on hikes with him, and even though he at first declines, darius always caves in eventually. while darius likes camping with ben (they stargaze together,) he never survives the hikes. ben usually laughs at him.
ben lures him in with the promise of fresh air and an amazing sight (which are both true). while ben is in better shape than darius and darius is usually out of breath by the end of the hike ben is only doing a little better than darius. trying to get used to not running for your life and find that wow. when having the option. not needing to strain yourself is glorious
a compromise for ben's adventurous determination and darius' love for the views: easy/medium hike and a beautiful campsite. it reminds them of isla nublar views and they get to talk the night away sharing body heat. win win for us all. up until ben starts tryin to convince darius to forage for food instead of using the stuff they brought ("ben if you try to get me to eat bugs again im going home.")

Something about this really gets me thinking about Falin, intentional or not but I think Falin represents this SO well especially in her post cannon (Spoiler warning): when she is no longer fully dragon but a part of her still is, I feel like her personality didn’t change one bit because of the dragon I think she was always like that, the only difference is she felt she could justify it, she wanted adventure, she wanted to explore, she wanted to be free, all of those things were something a dragon could be because it was a monster, likewise with Laios they both have a desire to not behave like normal people even if it’s not as obvious for Falin.
She forages a lot of her food, bugs and fruits alike, she brings little things to her friends like a magpie would, she is just as excited about eating monsters as Laios is, she’s fascinated with the environment around her, everything BUT the people. She didn’t have many friends but once she is part dragon she gains the confidence to be more open and honest with who she is! Even if she wasn’t always a monster she related more to them than she did other people and finally having that connection gave her the freedom to exists the way she wanted to. She also doesn’t brush shuro off like when he proposed before instead telling it to him straight up.
….im totally not projecting..

- Purposely steal your clothes to wear into town.
- Low-key spiteful and tries to make Kent jealous at every opportunity. - Don't worry she's in therapy
- Spends a lot of time out on the farm happy to have a break from the 'mom life' knowing you're there to help with the kids.
- She misses you while you're out exploring and sometimes asks for you to take her along, but she refuses to go into the mines.
- Loves foraging for wild fruits and veggies.
- Sam thinks you're alright while Vincent thinks you're really cool, especially when you let him keep pet bugs.
Robin
- Not super confident about physical touch at first but quickly realizes she craves it.
- Not super into PDA but will sometimes give you a peck on the lips or hold your hand in public.
- Loves living on the farm, but can't ever have idle time, she's always out fixing fences or gathering resources. She never really relaxes.
- Very against moving into the farmhouse until she renovates the entire place.
- Steals all your clothes, especially your flannels.
- Doesn't talk to Demetrius unless she absolutely needs to.
- You swear this woman doesn't sleep, she goes to bed after you and wakes up to make breakfast before you get up.
- Happily takes care of the farm while you're out adventuring, she misses you but she can get so lost in her work that it feels like you were barely gone.
- Sometimes you'll come home and you'll suddenly have new furniture or even a new farm building.
- Sebastian dislikes you until you invite him to go frog hunting, after that he's still aloof but not as cold. Maru however thinks you're cool especially after you give her a free space on the farm to experiment.

I had a dungeon meshi and dr.stone inspired ranchers au... I called it delicacies and dungeon masters (its jimmy, Jimmy is the delicacy)
Jimmy was a young aspiring chef from the cuisine guild who just got his license to open his own restaurant, but just buying the rundown burnt down building for it cost him everything, so he gets his ingredients through hunting and foraging...
Except hes just a little tasty avian with not adventuring or monster hunting experience and so he gets his butt kicked and almost eaten by scary monsters...
Until he finds a little fire freak with terrifyingly sharp teeth passed out in the woods and gives him his food. They get attacked by skeletons, Tango kills them, and Jimmy makes a tasty dinner of their marrow and the fungus that animates them, and it's the tastiest thing Tango's ever eaten because the man does not eat anything but burnt porkchops.
Anyways, Tango declares his undying loyalty to Jimmy and promises to make him all the cool equipment and work at his restaurant and help him hunt monsters in exchange for being fed tasty meals.
Also he has a pet ravager and he can turn blue and did he mention he was the dungeon master of that evil castle looking over the entire region? No? No. He didn't and he keeps forgetting to. Jimmy has thr BBEG making him a refrigerator and he doesn't know it. Also he keeps almost chomping on Jimmy and has to save him from being eaten by the monsters they hunt while using him as bait.
There is also a tavern and brewery run by dwarf impulse, gem, and oli, a high class fancy restaurant run by scott, pearl, and cleo, a street vendor run by scar, and a guild quality ensurer/food critic in avian Grian who always gives restaurants terrible reviews (who def does not completely cave if given a slab of mixed seed suet)
Came up with a bunch of recipes using minecrafts mobs
Really it was about Jimmy waking up with Tango's shark teeth too close to his through.
THIS IS SO GOOD OH MY GOD!! i have been meaning to check out Dungeon Meshi and my brother has been bugging me to watch Dr. Stone so this might be the final push. I also just. REALLY love fantasy food a lot, i spend a lot of time in games just cooking food lol. im really curious on the recipes youve come up with. I also love that. Jimmy is just so tasty that he's used as bait. (Tango would know) And yes, housewife Jimmy and his husband, the BBEG. This is MY definition of domestic fluff.

Meet Four, the European Bee-Eater!
Facts about Four:
He likes insects as snacks, but Wild’s the only other one who will crunch on them plain. Wild tends to hide them if he doesn't want to share.
Social birb! He hangs out with the group and he's good at working with others!
He’s really good at long distance flights, being a migrating bird.
Four doesn’t mind a little dirt and sometimes digs around in it; he likes a dust bath.
Chatters a lot, but it’s not always useful. Most of the group's pretty good at tuning him out; not to be mean, but because he'll comment on ANYTHING all the time. The scenery, blacksmithing techniques, new hobbies, a topic he overhead, a question about someone's adventure...and on and on.
Wild's the only one who doesn't get talked out. Time and Twilight listen and Legend likes Four, if he was just a little quieter.
Will help forage for food, but his main contribution is going to be…bugs.
Reference bird under the cut! Look at that pretty thing.
Got questions about Four or any of the other birds so far? Drop them in the ask box!

about lanterns and similar
well, this one was a bit difficult. i don't know much about lanterns personally.
i assume you mean trawler lanterns so we'll be using our friend airy as an example for this post!
Tumblr media
lanterns and other light fixtures are one of the more diverse families of object. they all have one thing in common, in that they give off a light source, but how they do it varies wildly.
in the case of airy, he emits a flame from the top of his head by pressing a button on his back. the thing at the front is a knob where the fuel for said flame goes. so yeah, his abdomen is hollow. i don't know if the same goes for other trawler lanterns or if it's just him and others like him.
trawler lanterns don't like being grabbed by their handles. they have two on the sides and one on their heads. they are very sensitive and tugging on one can prove to be painful (it's also just really rude lol why would you do that). they're rather solitary, preferring to live on their own or with with a partner once they're mature enough. they have excellent night vision on their own though may turn on their own light to help with visibility.
their limbs are typically glassy and smooth, covered in hardened, exoskeleton-esque skin. some may have a peach of fuzz, not unlike a tarantula. their limbs are very tough and damage resistant and they use that along with their deflectors to protect their fragile glass heads.
yes, being partially glass, most lanterns are very cautious and slowgoing. they are by nature curious and adventurous and they love to tinker and create things. they have deft hands and usually have fast reflexes to keep themselves safe from danger. they are foragers and will eat whatever they can find (usually things like plants and berries that grow low to the ground) provided it isn't too difficult for them. they will sometimes eat insects as well, using their light to lure flying bugs like moths close.
they like the heat and dislike the cold. they can live in the cold but will usually need some way to keep warm. they usually avoid the rain and in places where it stays dark for longer they may consume more energy.
