there is something about magic systems that borrow from a specific craft that makes them so special. Maybe it’s because they feel more tangible and it’s very easy to get swept away by the passion for the craft that is clearly written on every page.

Whether it’s the art based magic system in Witch Hat Atelier. Or the translation based magic system in Babel. Or the alchemy/chemistry based magic system in Fullmetal Alchemist.

The relation to a specific craft makes the characters passion for their magic feel so personal and relatable. Because there is magic in art, in translation, in chemistry and any other craft that people partake in. The magic system becomes a love letter towards creation and everyone who creates and there is nothing world building wise that could be more charming.

#my gf is reading Babel 🤭#I knew they would like the magic system because when I started reading wha I was reminded of all those feelings I had while reading babel #while the art based magic in wha is more personal to me (because well this comes closest to my kind of craft and magic I partake in)#Babel’s magic system stuck with me so much. maybe it’s partially because translation is such a inherent part of my daily life.#and I always think about what is lost in translation and how words and finding the right meaning is so important in translation #(esp when your mother tongue starts to fail you)#fma might be the least relatable to me from those faves because I’m not that kind of stem girlie but the way fma talks about creation and #life and the universe. how everything is connected is such a beautiful way of looking at life. one that has deeply changed me #in general there is something about fiction that is built on the passion towards a specific topic #those always catch me in an iron grip. because yeah. that’s relatable.#fma #wha #babel

just came across this picture of a casa cueva in 1964 😔😔 i kinda hate that nowadays most of them are now airbnbs and very few people actually live in them

for reference, here is the percentage of people that lived in casas cueva (cave houses) in 1963 per province in spain

guadix, in granada is known for its casas cueva, and has more than 2000 of them! but as you can see, they could be found pretty much everywhere in the eastern half of the peninsula, the picture on top is from guadalajara for example. anyways, here's how guadix and its casas cueva looks like <3

#casas cueva you are so loved #i visited some when i was a kid cause in the area where i go every summer there's tons of them #pretty close to the town i stay there's one called cuevas del almanzora which translates to 'caves of almanzora' and shockingly #there's casas cueva there lol #also technically i guess the house where i stay every time is a casa cueva #it's built onto the cliffside and the entrance to the house is just like the ones in the pictures from guadix like it's built out of the #rock. and all the houses in that community have a room we call 'the cave' because it's well. a literal cave lol. it's my grandma's room :)

#i've been so confused about when they do or don't offer their built-in translations recently #they usually offer (in dutch) to translate german into english. but with thai (to english) it seems they only show that option half the tim #and now. i have been assigned Might Like Thai Text. by youtube #truly what is happening. i don't understand any of the logic here #which youtube employee is being paid to do a coin toss to decide if they'll offer a translation option on comments i scroll through or not #*#wait okay. the youtube app just showed me a partially dutch ad with one line of french text and an english tagline link underneath #hello. the tower of babel called it wants its schtick back

The most important thing about a Megatron ship is that it cannot end well.

#megatron #transformers #I'll talk about the ones I'm insane about in the tags I guess #Megop. Self-explanatory. Most continuities have them being besties until SOMETHING happens and now they're enemies for life.#Their relationship ends in a civil war that dooms their entire planet (and that's when Megatron isn't actively genocidal).#It is not just canon compliant that it ends badly. It is canon NECCESSARY. Most canons cannot exist without that.#Megasound. I love them so much. Even if the Decepticons won (which they don't) I still don't think they could ever be healthy.#Megatron will never be satisfied with his position. He'll always want to conquer more planets or create a bigger army or further wipe out #dissent. Alternatively if he realizes how fucked up he's made things then he will leave the 'cons altogether and work with #the Autobots. Soundwave is loyal to Megatron but she is MORE loyal to the cause in every continuity except maybe Prime.#If Megatron defects she will fight him. And if he stays loyal then she will still always be 2nd place to an end-goal that keeps shifting.#That's all without anything happening to the cassettes or all of the other reasons they are so fucked up /pos. Cannot end well.#Megarod. Jesus fucking christ I love them so much but I firmly believe that even in the 'good' ending they don't end well.#This is for like 110000 reasons but the big ones are 1) There has GOT to be resentment there on Rodimus's end. And there should be #Even outside of Megatron literally killing him (which I would actually argue was one of the better things to ever happen to Hot Rod #but that's a different post) he basically says that Megatron is worse than Zeta Prime after Megatron compliments him #for what happened on Nyon and orders Bumblebee to be fuckin scrapped and then gets used as a shield BY MEGATRON #(I might be getting the exact order of events wrong; it's been a while since I've read Autocracy)#so like Hot Rod really fuckin' hates that guy. And there's also the dozens of times Hot Rod probably lost someone in the war and #all of that shit is Megatron's fault. Then you've got the 'Megatron killing him' thing and then Rodimus actively wanting #Megatron to be tortured by OP + being upset at OP for seemingly going easy on him...yeah Rodimus hates him and has good reason to.#And obviously Megatron has improved as a person. That is the central conceit of his character in MTMTE (how much/is it enough #is up for debate). But another central conceit of his character is that his improvement doesn't get rid of all the harm he's did.#That should extent to any relationship he has with Rodimus and fits Rodimus's character as well. He cares about and loves Megatron #but that doesn't make the resentment any less visceral. There is also probably resentment on Megs's end but nothing quite so personal.#2) Megatron is still kinda in a 'self-discover/healing/redemption' era and while having that tied in so much with Rodimus is awesome #from a shipping/analysis/I just like it perspective it does not always translate into a healthy relationship.#Despite being literal millenia old Megatron is still changing a lot. We SEE him change a lot during MTMTE and it's awesome #but relationships that last are generally built on a stable foundation. Rodimus is already shaky on that front but Megatron #is NOT in a stable place right now. He's in a BETTER place 100% but he's just been through a major character arc and he needs
