My Svsss Au, where transmigrated SY is the inner disciple of Qiong Ding Peak. After being saved from the demonic cultivator, he was brought to the Sect by Yue Qingyuan when SQQ was in seclusion. He has some resemblance to SQQ and that's why he receives a little(not) more affection from Sect Leader. When SQQ came back, he was obviously not pleased with YQY taking in a replacement for him. Usually in stories where the lead character gets a whole harem of lovelorn admirers, it begs a lot of willing suspension of disbelief. Especially when the harem protagonist is also trying to be a relatable audience proxy, because as most average people can verify, getting people to fall in love with you at the drop of a hat is not a normal thing. Many a harem anime has tried to work around this by asserting that the lead is just somehow attracting absolute weirdos by the dozens, and coincidentally this flavor of freak just really goes for the "boring and generically nice-ish" type, but plenty also just shrug and are like, yeah everyone's in love with this guy for no discernible reason, just go with it.

But then there's Scum Villain. With Shen Yuan, I can finally buy this happening. At last someone got the "audience proxy character" formula to combine successfully with the "most desirable love interest" formula.

Keeps thinking he's seeing SQQ in the corner of his eyes, or wandering between the trees, amongst a group of disciples. Thinks he hears him calling for him, but its just the wind or another disciple.

Gets Xiu Ya reforged but patently fucking refuses to make a sword mound. Because his disciple Is Not Dead :))) There was No Body. He's Not Dead. And If You keep Insisting That He Is, He's Gonna Skewer You :). He's holding onto Xiu Ya so he can return his most favored disciple's sword when he returns. It's on his hip right next to Zheng Yang where it's supposed to be.

Also this motherfucker?? does not sleep btw. He has the image of SQQ, wide eyed and hysterical and standing at the mouth of the abyss burned into his fucking eyelids. There is no convincing this man that Shen Qingqiu is dead. Absolutely nothing at all. He is buried so deep in denial that moles would be jealous of how deep he is. cang qiong dragon god shen yuan is probably like so old that time doesn’t have meaning? like he transmigrated into pidw as a dragon and and the system gave him a few missions that functionally amounted to ‘claim this mountain range as your territory and defend it from demons’

sy didn’t realize that he was actually laying the foundation for cang qiong mountain sect before its creation. some terrifying demon demigod (one of the first heavenly demons, maybe?) pursues a band of cultivators to his mountain range, and he protects them. they settle his mountains and start cultivating, and because they’re protected by a literal god (who they call lord canglong, and they name the mountains after him) people want to study there.

so cqms is born, and sy takes a nap. when he wakes up, those cultivators he saved bring another group of cultivators, all named 'wen' to his mountain, and they ask his permission to lead the peaks next. another nap, and he wakes up to the wen generation asking his blessing for the ming generation, so on and so forth up until the qing generation. this time he recognizes names: qingge, qingfang, qingqi. this generation's leader, qingyuan. and the one whose bow is shallow and perfunctory, qingqiu. ofc sy isn't super pressed about standing on ceremony or whatever—he's only experienced like six years in this world, and most of them were spent either establishing the mountain as his territory or helping his little cultivators fight off some world-ending cataclysm or other. but he remembers the scum villain’s name, and he’s not a huge fan of the way sqq’s already proving himself to be an arrogant old shit

just like every other time, after he’s met and blessed this generation of peak lords, shen yuan falls asleep. shit!!! he meant to stay awake this time, but the system putting him to sleep is just too powerful! he’s probably missed luo binghe, damnit!!! what’s the point of transmigrating into this shitty novel if he doesn’t even get to meet the only character worth the pixels it took to type him into existence??

but as soon as he sees that fluffy-haired boy curled up in one of his caves, bruised and weeping and wondering what he’s done to be so universally hated, shen yuan knows. that’s his protagonist, and he’s really too pathetic like this. he’s really just a child. and shen yuan might have been easily annoyed by the concept of kids in his first life, but this isn’t just some whiny kid. this is the protagonist. so he does his best to calm tiny lord luo down.

and at first when lbh realizes it’s the fucking dragon god canglong speaking to him, the poor kid falls on his face kowtowing and apologizing for the intrusion, but lord canglong just…asks him what’s wrong. and then listens. and then he allows binghe to…to touch his hand???? not only that, he pats binghe’s head?? and tells him it isn’t his fault??? that one little head-pat is filled with so much spiritual power that binghe almost passes out, and soon after he recovers, lord canglong sends him back down the mountain with a renewed sense of purpose. lord canglong said binghe wasn’t stupid, wasn’t incompetent, wasn’t a failure, and binghe was determined to prove himself worthy of the sect’s guardian deity’s kindness.

and when luo binghe turns to walk down the mountain back to qing jing peak, that google translate voice pipes up in shen yuan’s ear with an update he hadn’t realized he was waiting for.

Jiuyuan is so compelling to me because despite only one of them looking mean you know they are saying the most life ruining things about people behind their fans.

Shen Yuan gives the most adorable smile and starts spilling insults like this is a Xianxia Fortnite lobby. Shen Jiu looks like he’s killing someone with his eyes as he verbally tears them apart. Both of them are draped in the prettiest silks and hiding their mouths behind the same beautifully painted fan. God forbid someone is stupid enough to get them both to say the quiet part loud; their combined hater energy might actually lead to the first case of being insulted to death.

Shen Bros who aren't technically related at all but share the same mom (cause SJ was adopted against his will)

Their mom (is she another slave? Is she a servant of the Qiu's?) meets SJ when he's brought to the Qiu's and she's like "oh this poor child. Anyways adopted." So she helps clean him up and makes sure he eats all while SJ is hissing and biting and scratching.

Enter SY her other son who is a toddler. And he does Not like the way SJ talks to His Momma so he does what toddlers do and bites SJ every chance he gets. So now SJ has beef with a literal toddler.

Anyways mom dies, SJ loses it, the Qiu's burns down, he almost mercy kills SY before just taking him with him. So now 14/15 yr old SJ is raising his sorta not brother and he's definitely not good at it by any sort of modern standard.

He's harsh, super harsh, but also he's a traumatized kid raising another, significantly younger, traumatized kid in a shitty situation. Cause I doubt Wu Yanzi has patience for crying kids, or kids in general. So he's gotta somehow keep SY quiet and out of the way so Wu Yanzi doesn't, like, kill him.

So basically everything is the same but SJ has experienced human kindness (a little at least) AND is more stressed.

Earlier, to me, Shen Yuan being hell bent on believing Binghe to be manipulative and deceptive when they met in Jinlan City, was a result of his preconceived notions thanks to his PIDW knowledge. But, I do wonder, if a part of it was because, he himself has been lying all this time.

Ever since he transmigrated, he's been deceiving everyone. Partly because of the System and partly because he had decided even before dying that that'd be his plan of action if he ever transmigrated. To him, it had felt like the only sensible option. The only way to survive, to be accepted. But he can't fathom, that maybe, in some sense, that is also true for Luo Binghe.

When Luo Binghe met his shizun after the abyss, Shen Yuan read every emotion on his face as a calculated move. He believed Binghe's acting skills were so good, that he appeared genuine. Like Shen Yuan chose to lie and trick to survive, Binghe does the same for power and revenge. Shen Yuan may have consciously chosen this path but it was under duress. Luo Binghe, however, must be a mastermind for the exact same choices. That's how he was written, after all. How could the OP Protagonist ever be forced to act in a way he never wanted??? Impossible!

I wonder if, like Shen Jiu self-projected a beast onto Binghe, Shen Yuan self-projected a deceiver.

i DETEST seeing "hehe what if sy ~wifebeamed~ qjl or wyz" bc not only has the wifebeam thing gone from a funny fandom in-joke to something just. Taken as textually canon to the point people get mad at you if you point out it isn't. but there's something so gross to me about taking two characters who canonically used and abused shen jiu (and were heavily implied to be sexually abusive to him esp in the case of qjl) and going "oh, if it were SHEN YUAN they'd obviously fall in love and be nice to him! if shen jiu were this other, more lovable guy his abuse would never have happened, skill issue" like. idk. it squicks me out a lot, esp because shen jiu was a child and a slave. qjl was obsessed with shen jiu bc sj was feisty and beautiful, but he didn't see slaves as human and wanted to beat him down. i don't even think he'd be interested in shen yuan. likewise wu yanzi, who noticed sj's natural talents and was implied to be using him/setting up to use him as a cauldron.
