“We really couldn’t fly into a closer airport?” you grumble under your breath, forehead pressed against the cool window of the Tahoe as a seemingly endless expanse of cornfield flies by in a blur.

Hotch uses the rearview mirror to glance at your sour face, raising a single eyebrow in challenge. “And where, pray tell, is this closer airport you speak of? Hiding amongst the corn?”

“Hiding amongst the corn?” you mimic in a childish tone, and he grunts in response although the corner of his mouth twitches with mirth.

“It was almost better when you two were keeping things under wraps,” Derek chimes in from the passenger seat. His long legs allowed him to claim shotgun while you and Emily were relegated to the back. Dave, JJ, Garcia, and Spence were in the vehicle behind you, much to Penelope’s chagrin about being thwarted from “napping on my sturdy hunk of Derek,” as she had so eloquently put it.

“To be fair, you chose to ride with us,” Aaron comes to your defense, and you pipe up with a vindicated, “Yeah! Thanks, babe.” You lean forward to press a kiss to his cheek and he frowns at you, pulling a pouty, “What?” from you in return.

“Sit back and put your seatbelt on,” he chides gruffly, and you can hear the unspoken brat that would’ve been sure to follow if you were alone.

“Fine,” you huff in feigned annoyance, settling into your seat and clicking your seatbelt in place.

The car is silent for a few minutes save from the wind whipping past, then you lean towards the center console and ask, “Can we at least listen to music?”

Emily perks up at that, pulling her head from the case file in her lap. “Music would be good.”

“Here, Derek,” you offer, sliding your phone towards him. “It’s unlocked so you can queue songs. But if I see you swiping anywhere else, I swear to god-”

“Chill, Y/N,” he laughs out. “Ain��t no way I’m risking burning my retinas with a nude from our boss man.”

“Morgan,” your boyfriend sighs like an exasperated parent while you tease, “Only cause he’s too hot to look at.”

“Please just put some music on,” Aaron groans after your comment, and you can see the back of his neck flushed red through the gap between the seat and headrest.

“Alright, alright,” Derek finally relents, plugging in your phone and then turning to smile at you when he spots a playlist titled AH🖤. “Now that’s pretty cute,” he admits, and you return his grin with a bashful one of your own.

Then your smile morphs into a horrified gasp when his thumb hovers over the playlist, the world seeming to move in slow motion as his finger makes contact with the screen.

Corpse’s gravelly voice instructing the listener to Choke me like you hate me, but you love me blares through the speakers as you shriek in surprise. Hotch jams his palm into the volume knob, mercifully cutting off the music before the next line can assault everyone’s ears.

The car is plunged into silence once more as your face flushes under the delighted scrutiny of one Derek Morgan. Emily, to her credit, remains unfazed (mostly because she’s the recipient of your lascivious texts about Aaron).

“We’re never talking about this again,” you whisper, mortified, unwilling to meet Aaron’s gaze in the rearview mirror. You’re so paying for this when you get to the hotel tonight.

“On the contrary,” Derek counters in an almost giddy fashion, “I just figured out how we’re going to pass the time until we reach the precinct. So, Y/N, are you the choker or the chokee?”

You collapse on yourself, head in your hands as you wail, “I wanna die,” while your boyfriend quietly mumbles, “I’m resigning when we get back to Quantico.”

Ok, I've actually never been apple picking and now I want to go!! I won't lie, I was listening to a lot of Lana Del Rey while making this, specifically "Chemtrails Over the Country Club" and "Say Yes to Heaven". I wanted this dreamy romantic vibe especially since David might be so reluctant to be affectionate 🥹🥰

Steam from the heat of your bodies fills the car. You rest on top of Liam in the backseat of his vehicle, his hand on the small of your back holding you to him while the two of you catch your breath. The flimsy throw blanket covering you two.

The world went to shit so fast and when it did you were in the backseat of Liam’s taxi.

It’s been about a month now and it was only a matter of time before you discovered the truth about Liam; about how he had been following you in the days leading up to the outbreak. He watched you, managed to steal from your purse when you weren’t looking, and found out intimate details of your life. You learned he was using these to get close to you and yet, in the midst of your anger, frustration, and hurt after finding out, you still slept with him.

In the backseat of his taxi.

Not like you had anything better to do.

“They’re coming again,” Liam says with a sigh.

The growls and gurgles of the undead shambling in your direction can be heard in the distance.

Clumsily, you two maneuver in the backseat to redress and then climb into the front seats. Liam starts the car and drives off to get you two away from the horde of trudging corpses. You look behind you and through the rear windshield; a few strays can be seen, some without arms, others with internals spilling from their bodies, and some that are…just unrecognizable.

You and Liam make it to the countryside where you locate a few abandoned vehicles. The two of you make quick work of siphoning the fuel from them.

You lean up against his car as he fills it up with the fuel gathered. “So what was the goal?”

“What?” he asks.

“Were you going to sleep with me and then dip?”

He sighs. He understands that you’re upset with what he’s done and doesn’t expect you to forgive him. He isn’t sure if he forgives himself. “No, it wasn’t like that,” he explains. “I just…I knew you wouldn’t have liked me if…you knew who I was.”

“And who were you? Hm??” You give him a pointed glare.

“Nobody,” he replies softly.

Silence hangs in the air for a moment before Liam packs up the supplies for the fuel. “That should last us awhile,” he says.

The two of you get back into the car and resume driving.

“I wish you had given me a chance,” you say as you turn to Liam. “To know you, the real you, not the person you pretended to be.”

“Let’s be honest, you wouldn’t have given me that chance,” he replies.

“You don’t know that,” you quip. “Stop being afraid. Not like we have anything better to do so you might as well drop the act.”

There’s the hint of a smile on his face.

“….you don’t actually like Turkish Delight do you?” you ask, referring to one of the things he learned about you.

Liam sighs. “Does anyone?”

You chuckle. “Not many people do, I suppose.”

“You may very well be the only person left alive that enjoys it,” he chuckles. “More for you.”

You laugh.

The two of you continue the drive getting to know each other; no lies and no more subterfuge. Only the truth.

"Lord Diavolo had Barbatos send me back in time so I could figure out how Belphie managed to combine my three pacts with Asmo, Levi, and Satan with Ayla's two pacts with Mammon and Beel in order to escape the attic. But when I found him he... well, he killed me. These things happen. Barbatos brought me back by making the reality where I lived the real reality, and so it was like it never happened.

"Except it did. I remembered all of it―dying, going back in time, everything that Barbatos said I should have eventually forgotten. And then I started having these... these episodes. Where it's like I was conscious, but I was trapped in my body. It was terrifying to say the fucking least.

"So it turns out something just... went wrong with sealing off the other reality―you know, the one where I kicked the bucket. And so my body would be into these episodes where I was basically living in my own corpse; like my body and my soul couldn't decide which reality I belonged to. Luckily, Barbatos found a way to fix that. I just needed to access enough of his reality-altering powers to actively choose to stay in the reality where I lived. And, y'know, there's only one way to access that much of a demon's power...

"So one pact and 88% of my soul sold off later, everything seemed peachy! Except... a-ha... turns out I tapped into too much reality-altering power. Enough that when combined with my fear of having to leave the Devildom and my unconscious desire to belong with the brothers... I kinda... turned myself into a demon?

"To no one's surprise it was... rocky at first. How else are you supposed to describe your pseudo-friendship with your murderer? But everyone was so happy to have him home and.... and well of course there's that whole thing about Ayla falling in love with him while planning his attic-rescue... eventually we found a good middle ground.

"And I'm happy to say that middle ground eventually just... smoothed out? I don't have a good analogy for it. I can't say exactly when, or what did it, but one day I just realized... I had forgiven him. And we were okay―better than okay―we were true brothers."

"Well they're not really mythical, but Hellnicorns are definitely my favorite creature native to the Devildom! Going on the Alpha hunt is still one of the top three most thrilling experiences of my life."

There have to be about fifty of them. Maybe a few more. Spread out over a full-moon sky in small groups and then some. The smaller ones, babies probably, are indeed the size of regular pack horses. They gallop and whinny as a group of several chase each other by the tips of their horns. One scampers away before turning on gangly legs to lock horns with another, playfighting for dominance. The majority of them are the size of decent construction trucks— the kind with the extra set of back wheels that appear in a commercial with a man in a cowboy hat talking about letting freedom ring with a beer in hand, never shown on the road but only on dirt trails. They seem to have more than one horn on average; smaller secondary ones above or below the main ticket not unlike secondary wing characteristics. They graze and nudge each other, long tails swishing lazily. The big ones… those are the breath-takers. Four of them as big as, indeed, a two story house. Six nearby them just slightly shorter, but thicker and stockier. Likely from the same family branch. The biggest four have at least three horns, maybe several more small ones hidden in the shadows of the others. But that main horn has to be as long as Dagon is tall. And like all the others it shines a vibrant and glossy obsidian, as if carved from stone and bestowed as a crown for their majesty. Before Xhura can properly express his awe in a verbal fashion, the Alpha—oh it’s so obvious which one is the Alpha, standing mightier than the rest and covered in dark grizzled scar lines, eyes a milky white and filled with instinct like Xhura is coming to terms with really understanding—charges.

"Then again, there's also a lot to be said about the fact that, during Hyakki Yako (when our friendship was at it's rockiest, mind you) we both were visited by a spirit guarding several precious memories of His deceased mother, the Late Demon Queen Ryoko, who then revealed to us that she was born human and had a human child before coming to the Devildom ― a child who turned out to be a very distant ancestor of... yup, you guessed it, this disaster demon boy!
