i wanna say fuck you to anyone who shame disabled, chronically ill & neurodivergent people, especially homebound folks, for "spending too much time on their phone/on the internet/etc." when it's the only (Somewhat) accessible way for them to experience the world. many people don't get to get out much even if they want to because of their disabilities. shaming someone for trying to connect with the world, make friends and engage with hobbies in ways that are accessible to them is beyond cruel and unnecessary

tales from a wheelchair users recent nightmarish encounter with a bus driver;
i was omw home from being in town, we kind of live on the countryside of our area so i took the bus. first of all, the horror in the bus drivers eyes when he realised that i, a wheelchair user, was going to ride on the bus was at first comedic to witness.
he struggled to get the lift out at first but it didn’t take too long thankfully, so i thought that it was gonna be a smooth trip but oh oh i was so wrong.
he asked me where i was getting off and i told him my bus stop, and yet, as we get close to my stop he simply just drives past it. despite me telling him where to stop and help me off, despite me pressing the disabled stop button, despite me waving to him and calling him.
and he drives past the next two stops as well, despite me doing the same as above, again.
i eventually had to turn around to the closest passenger and ask them to go up to him to get him to realise that he just ignored me for three stops and to help me off.
he finally came to help and started struggling with the lift, bouncing me like 1 meter up in the air. he finally figured out where the down button is (there are two buttons, up and down, wtf.) and i start to wheel off the platform, except he didn’t let me off completely before pressing the up button again & almost tipped the wheelchair backwards with me in it due to me still having my front wheels on the lift.
i tell him that he was supposed to help me three stops ago, and all he had to say was “oops i’m sorry”.
and then i had to drive (electric chair) 15-20 minutes home on a road with no side walks, amongst the cars going like 80km/h.
completely normal to fear for your life when riding the bus, right? (sarcasm)

I'm disabled. and sometimes I find myself thinking ableist thoughts. you know what I do?
I stop. I don't say them. and later, I stop again and think. did this thought come from a place of genuine concern or was it just an automatic reaction I have ingrained?
and if it came from a place of genuine concern, how can I actually offer help or a solution without invalidating someone else's experience? if there's no answer to this question, I simply shut the fuck up
this system has yet to failed me

I just got forearm crutches to use until I get smart crutches, and my wrist hurts from using them. Does anyone have advice on using them? (I am also gonna look up YouTube videos, so please don't suggest that)
I'm scared I've fucked my wrists up :(

Shout out to the ten year old who just got diagnosed. Shout out to the housebound fourteen year old. Shout out to the eighteen year old who can’t go to the university they wanted. Shout out to the twenty two year old who can’t get a job. Shout out to the twenty six year old with a caretaker. Shout out to the thirty year old who can’t buy their own house.
Shout out to young disabled people. We exist.

In case the esim process confuses you or you aren't able to buy them yourself for any other reason, crips for esims for Gaza is collecting donations, they've almost met their goal of $150,000 raised. Donating allows them to buy esims in bulk which allows them to obtain more than individuals would be able to. I just donated and it was super easy as you can use paypal.

I think the reason a lot of leftists struggle with disability justice is that they haven't moved past the concept that discrimination isn't bad because it's objectively "wrong." yes, sexists are objectively wrong when they try to claim women are dumber than men. yes, antisemites are objectively wrong that jewish people are inherently greedy and run the state. yes, racists are wrong when they try to claim that white people are the superior race. and so on.
but then with disabled people, there are a lot of objective truths to the discrimination we face. people with IDs/LDs do fall behind and struggle with certain concepts. physically disabled people are often weaker and less capable of performing demanding tasks than able bodied people. many of us with mental illnesses are more reckless and less responsible. a lot of us are dependent on others and do not contribute much "worth".
and guess what? disabled people still deserve a place in the world. disabled people still deserve the supports they need. because they are people, and that should be enough to support them and believe they deserve a place at the table.
if your only rebuttal against discrimination is its objective inaccuracies, you are meeting bigots where they are at. you are validating the very concept that if and when people are truly incapable of being equal to the majority, that means they are worth less. this causes some leftists to then try to deny the objective realities of disabled people and/or become ableist themselves.
your rallying behind marginalized groups should start and end with the fact that people are completely worthy of life and equity, because they are fellow human beings and that should, frankly, be enough.

some of yall need to understand that "my body, my choice" also applies to:
addicts in active addiction with no intention of quitting
phys disabled people who deny medical treatment
neurodivergent people who deny psychiatric treatment (yes, including schizophrenic people and people with personality disorders)
trans people who want or don't want to medically transition (yes, including trans masc lesbians with top surgery and trans women without bottom surgery, yall are so weird to them wtf)
and if you can't understand that, then you don't get to use the phrase

Realized I haven't said this yet: if you're pro-Israel, block me <3
And if you think this isn't cripple-related, you're ignoring all the children becoming crippled in Gaza every day OK bye <3

when the “10 tips on how to make showering easy for disabled people” list doesn’t include a shower chair or a shower/changing table or grab bars etc, i know they don’t care about us physically disabled people.
good for u that turning off the lights and lighting a scented candle instead and listening to music or put on a show and using a bath bomb etc etc helps u but like none of those tips are that beneficial for physically disabled ppl specifically.
it’s good that those tips are there but for once we’d love to be included.

Just to be clear, if your idea of an ideal future at any point involves killing disabled people or allowing disabled people to die- you're not a punk, you're a fascist. Hope that helps
