HOW I’VE BEEN SUCESSFULLY LOSING WEIGHT: Notes from a former binge eater ♥️
*this guide is to show how ~I~ do things and offer advice on how to do it MY way. I am in no way encouraging anyone to do themselves harm. First off,
HEALTH IS WEALTH.
That being said.. this is literally the longest I’ve ever gone without bingeing. It’s just,,, easy this time. Once you get a feel of what it’s like to be skinny you just don’t crave junk as much anymore bc you KNOW it’s not worth it. The trick is to eat clean 90% of the time and allow your favorite treats 10% do the time. Fit them into your calorie limit!!! Here’s some personal favorites that have helped me lose like 20lbs in the past 2 months.
I tend to do one higher- calorie drink during the day (protein shake, Starbucks, etc) and one healthy filling but low cal meal and a sweet snack at the end of the night.
LOW CALORIE 90%
Mediterranean salad (~150): mixed greens, chopped bell peppers, cherry tomatoes, red onion. Little bit of feta cheese. Balsamic vinegar (not dressing or vinegarette!!!!) I don’t add meat but you could totally add chicken for low cal high protein choice. You could also add olives but I don’t fw them.
Chocolate Protein shakes from the gas station (loll). They’re 220 cal on average and a great treat. Strawberry one is good too.
SEAWEED SNACKS they’re literally 30-60 calories for a pack and kill my urge to eat chips!!! Please give them a try!
Soups. Soups that are already portioned and have the calorie amount posted. I add extra seasonings and spice to boost metabolism.
Coffee!! With almond milk and a little coffee creamer. It’s worth the calories if you want a coffee just make one it’s better than going to Starbucks.
Sushi: I’m vegetarian so I get an avocado and cucumber roll. It’s so good with fresh ginger and a little soy sauce. Sometimes I will be craving it allllllll day and have it as my OMAD so rewarding 🥹
Miso soup>>>>>> add tofu and seaweed and onions!! And mushrooms if you like them.
Monster Ultra energy drinks,,,, yeah I know they’re bad for you but I love them.
Fruits!!! I especially love strawberries, watermelon, cherries, blackberries, pineapple and mangoes.
TREATS 10%
Trail mix: dried cherries, pecans, walnuts, pistachios, cashews. High in calories but perfect for killing hunger. High protein keeps you full and muscles strong, high healthy fats will keep your hair and skin and nails beautiful.
Chocolates: SMALL PORTIONS. if you can’t eat just eat a piece without bingeing, do NOT buy a big bag. what I do is I buy a bar of whatever chocolate I’m craving for my bf and we share it piece by piece. Dark chocolate, milk chocolate, white, hazelnut, with coffee beans, with toffee, fruits, chocolate is the best thing ever 🍫
Starbucks! My fav drinks are matcha lattes (hot/iced), iced white chocolate mocha, caramel macchiato, and occasionally a pumpkin spice latte. Peppermint mochas on the holidays. Oat milk always
Baked goods. Same deal as the chocolate, ONLY BUY THE PORTION YOURE GOING TO EAT. If you have been craving a croissant, go get one. One. Don’t buy a whole dozen of them. You will end up bingeing trust me. My favs are cinnamon rolls <3
Habits
I’m going to the gym!!! Consistently for the first time in my life. It doesn’t have to be anything crazy. Spend 30 min on the treadmill alternating between incline walking and easy paced jogging. Put on a YouTube video. Wear pink and bring a cute water bottle. You have to make an experience out of it! I stick to cardio and full body stretches plus ocasional (light) strength workouts w my bf.
I don’t drink anymore. Just 🍃. Alc is so high in sugar and carbs and it’s literally poison bro. I know it’s hard to stop but once you do you’ll feel so much better.
I rarely weigh myself. I’m at my bfs house all the time so I only step on my scale maybe 3 times a month. It’s been a game changer!!!
MINDSET
I practice mindfulness and speak kindly to myself. Basically sweetspo + affirmations to myself all the time.
Taking more pride in your appearance will also help motivate you. You think you’ll still want to binge after you took a full body shower, clean PJ’s or outfit, painted your nails, skincare and makeup done, whitened your teeth and lit a candle? No thanks.
Limit stupid, negative, useless media consumption. Watch things that have to do with your hobbies/ interests and your social media algorithms begin to kinda clean themselves up over time. My pages are all about exercise, study blogs, beauty tips and sciencey stuff. No more drama or celebrity nonsense. Cut down your following!!
Remember you only have one life on earth. You’re young and hot once. Don’t you want to grab this chance while you have it? Unfortunately your beauty is your currency especially as a woman, so if there’s anything I can do to give myself a better life I will. Losing just a few pounds of fat will make the craziest difference in ways you’d never expect. Free and discounted stuff. More people smile at you and listen to what you have to say. Both literal and figurative doors will be opened for you.Clothes fit better bc they’re more flattering when your body is fit and healthy. While it feels good to get validation from other people, the best part of it is looking in the mirror and feeling proud instead of ashamed. The inner confidence that comes from successful transformation………….there’s no other feeling that compares. If you know, you know. I’m just saying,, the choice is yours 🤷🏼‍♀️

Antioxidant Powerhouse: Green tea is rich in antioxidants, particularly catechins, which help combat oxidative stress caused by sun exposure. These antioxidants protect your skin and body from the harmful effects of UV rays, keeping you healthy and glowing.
Boosts Metabolism: The natural compounds in green tea, such as EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate), can enhance your metabolism. This means you can enjoy those summer treats guilt-free, knowing that green tea is working to keep your metabolism active.
Natural Detox: Summer activities often lead to the consumption of various foods and drinks that can bloat and discomfort. Green tea aids in detoxifying your body, helping to flush out toxins and maintain a healthy digestive system.
Organic Black Tea: Robust Flavour and Health Benefits
Our organic black tea is another fantastic option for summer. Grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers, it ensures a pure and robust flavour. Here’s how organic black tea can benefit you during summer:
Rich in Antioxidants: Like green tea, black tea is loaded with antioxidants, which help fight free radicals and reduce inflammation. This is especially beneficial after a long day in the sun, helping to soothe and protect your skin.
Heart Health: The flavonoids in black tea can improve heart health by lowering cholesterol levels and improving blood vessel function. Maintaining heart health is crucial during summer, especially if you’re engaging in physical activities like hiking or swimming.
Energizing Without Overstimulation: Black tea provides a moderate caffeine boost, perfect for staying alert and active without the jitteriness that coffee can cause. This balanced energy release is ideal for sustaining your summer adventures.
Enjoying Tea Iced or Hot
One of the best aspects of tea is its versatility. Both our green tea and organic black tea can be enjoyed hot or iced, depending on your preference. Here are a few ways to enjoy tea during summer:
Iced Green Tea: Brew a pot of green tea, let it cool, and pour it over ice. Add a slice of lemon or a sprig of mint for a refreshing twist. The green tea benefits remain intact, offering a cool and healthy beverage.
Iced Black Tea: Prepare a strong brew of organic black tea and let it chill. Serve it over ice with a hint of honey or a splash of citrus for a revitalizing drink. This is a great alternative to sugary iced coffees or sodas.
Tea-Infused Smoothies: Blend your favourite tea with fruits and ice to create a delicious and nutritious smoothie. Green tea pairs well with berries and citrus, while black tea complements flavours like peach and mango.

Details about mango nutrition
There are a lot of vitamins and minerals in mangoes. A single medium-sized mango has about 100 calories, 24 grams of carbohydrates, 2.5 grams of dietary fiber, and 1 gram of protein.
Mangoes are also full of vitamin C. One serving gives you about 67% of the daily recommended amount of this vitamin. They also have smaller amounts of vitamins A, E, and K.
Mangoes are a good source of minerals like potassium and magnesium, as well as vitamins. Small amounts of calcium, iron, and phosphorus are also found in them.
Overall, mangoes are a healthy food that can be added to a healthy diet because they contain many important vitamins and minerals.
Are Mangoes Safe for Cats? Can cats eat mangoes?
No, mangoes are not dangerous for cats to eat. In small amounts, cats can eat them without getting sick. But since cats must eat meat and their digestive systems aren't made to handle a lot of fruits and vegetables, it's best to only give them a small piece of mango as a treat once in a while. Also, make sure to take off the peel and pit before giving it to your cat, since these parts are hard for cats to digest and could cause them to choke.
What good things do cats get from eating mangoes?
Mangoes are not dangerous for cats to eat, but they don't do much for their health either. Mangoes have vitamins and minerals that are good for people, but cats are "obligate carnivores," which means they can only eat meat. Feeding cats a lot of fruits can throw off their nutrition and cause health problems. So, the best thing to do is feed your cat a balanced diet that is made just for cats.
How much mango can a cat eat without getting sick?
Small amounts of ripe mango flesh are safe for cats to eat as long as they don't get the pit, skin, or stem with it. Mango has vitamins A and C and other nutrients that may be good for cats, but if they eat too much of it, it can upset their stomachs. Before adding any new food to a cat's diet, it's important to talk to a vet.
If your cat eats too much mango, what should you do?
If your cat eats too much mango, you should keep an eye out for signs of stomach trouble, like throwing up or having diarrhea. Mango is not poisonous to cats, but it can make them sick because it has a lot of fiber and sugar. If your cat seems to be in pain, you should talk to a vet for advice. Try to keep your cat from getting a lot of mango in the future by putting it out of reach.
Can mangoes make cats sick with allergies?
Yes, mangos can make cats sick if they are allergic to them. Some cats can have allergic reactions to mangoes because they contain urushiol, which is also found in poison ivy and poison oak. An allergic reaction can cause itching, a rash, swelling, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, and trouble breathing. If you think your cat has eaten mangoes or is having an allergic reaction, you should talk to a vet to find out what's wrong and how to treat it.
Signs that a cat has eaten too many mangoes?
Mango poisoning in cats can cause them to vomit, have diarrhea, lose their appetite, get tired, and/or have trouble breathing. A chemical in mangoes called urushiol can be harmful to cats if they eat them. If you think your cat has eaten mango or if any of these things are happening, you should call a vet right away.
Should you talk to your vet before you give your cat mango?
Yes, you should talk to your vet before you give your cat mango. Mangoes are not poisonous to cats, but they have a lot of sugar and if a cat eats a lot of them, it could make them sick in other ways. Also, some cats might have an allergy to mango. Your vet can tell you how much and how often to feed your cat mango, as well as if there are any risks or things you should be worried about based on your cat's health.
Is it good or bad to give cats mangoes to eat?
Mangoes are not good for cats to eat because they have to eat meat and their digestive system is not made to break down fruits and vegetables. Mangos have a lot of sugar and fiber in them, which can cause digestive problems in cats, like diarrhea or vomiting. Some cats may also be allergic to mangoes, which can cause serious problems like trouble breathing or swelling. So, it's best not to give your cat mangoes and instead feed them a balanced diet of meat that meets all of their nutritional needs.
Can dried mangos be eaten by cats?
No, dried mangoes are not good for cats to eat. Mangoes aren't usually harmful to cats, but they are high in sugar and can make their stomachs upset or give them diarrhea. Also, cats can choke on dried fruits, so they shouldn't be given them. It is best to stick to treats and foods that are safe for cats and made for their health.
Can cats eat the skin of a mango?
No, mango skin is not good for cats to eat. Mango skin is hard for cats to break down, which can lead to digestive problems or an upset stomach. Also, the skin has a chemical called urushiol in it that can be harmful to cats if they eat too much of it. It's best to only give your cat small amounts of ripe, peeled mango as a treat once in a while.
Mango ice cream: can cats eat it?
No, cats shouldn't eat any kind of ice cream, including mango ice cream. Most cats can't handle lactose, so they can't properly digest dairy products. This can cause digestive problems like diarrhea and vomiting. Also, a lot of ice creams have sugar, which is not part of a cat's natural diet and can make them fat and cause problems with their teeth. It is best to feed your cat a balanced diet that is right for its species.
Tumblr media
Mango yogurt: Can a cat eat it?
As a treat, cats can eat a small amount of plain yogurt, but you shouldn't give them mango-flavored yogurt or any dairy products with added sugar or artificial sweeteners. These ingredients can be bad for cats and might give them stomach problems or other health problems. It's best to feed your cat a balanced diet made just for cats.
Can cats drink mango juice?
No, mango juice is not good for cats. Small amounts of ripe mango fruit may be safe for cats to eat as a treat, but cats shouldn't drink mango juice because it has a lot of sugar and could cause digestive problems. For a cat's hydration needs, it's best to stick to water and a well-balanced diet.
Can cats eat sorbet made of mango?
Mango sorbet is safe for cats to eat, but it is not something they should eat every day. Mango sorbet is not good for cats' health in any way, and the high sugar content may even make their stomachs upset. Also, some cats might have an allergy to mangoes. To keep your cat healthy and happy, it's best to feed it food that is balanced and right for it.
What else can cats eat that is a fruit?
Apples, bananas, blueberries, and strawberries are some fruits that cats can eat in small amounts. Cut these fruits into small pieces and give them to your cat as a treat, not as a regular part of their diet. But it's important to remember that cats must eat meat, so most of the protein in their diet should come from meat. Also, some fruits, like grapes and raisins, are poisonous to cats and should not be given to them at all.
Can Mangos be eaten by Kittens?
Cats can eat mangoes in small amounts as long as they are peeled and the pit is taken out. They have a lot of vitamins A and C and can be good for your health in other ways.

What is Alpilean? Alpilean is a natural blend offering faster weight loss, cutting the fat layers from all parts of the body. It contains scientifically proven ingredients like African mango extract, moringa extract, ginger, and many others, each offering a unique role in weight loss.
There are so many testimonials suggesting how this product has helped them lose weight. And if it has helped them, it will work for the rest too. The product works alone, which means it does not require the user to follow a specific diet or spend hours at the gym. However, weight loss is faster when Alpilean is used alongside dietary and lifestyle improvements.
Only one capsule of Alpilean is enough to activate a faster metabolism. Within a few days, the results show visibly, and they get better with time. If you have more than ten pounds to lose, consider a three or six bottle pack for a complete weight loss transformation. How Does Alpilean Help In Weight Loss? In simplest words, Alpilean works by improving the core body temperature and using it to trigger weight loss. There are so many studies confirming that high inner body temperature indicates a healthy metabolism. Most lean bodies show a high core body temperature, which is significantly low in obese bodies. The high core temperature means the body is supercharged and works effectively for breaking down and using sugar from the food. The muscles remain warm, more calories are burnt, and the body maintains its temperature on its own.
The official Alpilean website explains this link between body temperature and metabolism, saying the decrease in core body temperature makes the metabolic rate slow. Using this supplement makes it easy to raise the temperature without any unwanted effects. When the core body temperature increases, the heating starts to burn the accumulated fat layers. This energy is used to run cellular functions, and the body experiences weight loss without changing energy levels.
Another interesting fact is that people do not know that the core body temperature and skin health are connected too. The core body temperature improves skin health by promoting rejuvenation and retaining elasticity. That is why, when a person tries unnatural weight loss plans, their skin shows it all. Only a healthy weight loss like offered by Alpilean maintains skin health along with other benefits while the body goes through a metabolism transition.
These effects only show up when Alpilean is used regularly, without skipping days and missing the dosage. Remember, there are no magic people to help with weight loss, and even the most successful and popular diet pills require a personal effort from the user to show the desired results. Weight loss is slow in some people, but consistency is the key. Most of them are able to see visible changes in their body weight within three to six months of weight management plans.

The companies hide this information because they do not want users to know about their secret ingredients. But no such concern relates to Alpilean because the ingredients are already highlighted on the website.
This information suggests the Alpilean diet pills are made with cirrus, ginger, moringa, algae, and other medicinal ingredients. Some of these are still used in traditional medicines and remedies; also, scientific proof is available for their efficiency and safety.
Please read the following to know the Alpilean ingredients and their working, as per the official website.
Golden Algae (Fucoxanthin)
The primary ingredient in the Alpilean weight loss formula is fucoxanthin, a compound from a seaweed called golden or brown algae. It is a part of many weight loss supplements for its role in obesity management, cognitive health, bone health, and other roles.
Dika Nuts
This ingredient is also famous as African Mango Seeds and has a long history of usage in burning fat and improving metabolism. It also relieves digestive issues like bloating, gas, indigestion, diarrhea, etc., during the weight loss journey. Some studies reveal it also benefits against high blood pressure and sugar levels.
Drumstick Tree Leaf
Also famous as ‘Moringa’ the tree of life, this Alpilean ingredient has been used in medicines for centuries. It regulates metabolism, blood pressure, sugar level, cholesterol, and many other risk factors that play a role in obesity management. It also improves the core body temperature, increasing metabolic rate while providing an unlimited supply of antioxidants to the body.
Citrus Bioflavonoids
Alpilean also has citrus bioflavonoids, which is taken from the bigarade orange. Not only it improves digestion, but it also lowers oxidative stress, heals the damage caused at the cellular level, boosts immunity, and plays many other roles too.
Ginger
For centuries in traditional medicine, ginger has been particularly popular in traditional Korean and Chinese medicine, where it’s used as an overall health and wellness remedy. In Alpilean, the same ginger can target inner temperature, helping to normalize body temperature to accelerate metabolism and fat burning. Alpilean also claims to maintain tooth and gum health, support healthy muscles, and provide other benefits.
Turmeric
The last one on this list is turmeric, a thermogenic ingredient that helps maintain body temperature and initiate metabolism. Most scientific data is on its anti-inflammatory action, and it also means it lowers the temperature. This temperature regulation leads to improved cardiovascular health, skin, kidney, and liver function, alongside a metabolic boost.
These ingredients work together without changing each other’s effects. There is no way any of them can cause an unwanted effect. Do not use this supplement if you are prescribed medication. Also, stick to the usage guidelines and avoid experiments for a safe experience. For the best results, start using Alpilean with a healthy diet and moderate physical activity every day.

What is Alpilean?
According to the official website, Alpilean works well for adults who have trouble controlling their weight through diet and exercise alone. Anyone can lose weight quickly if they take one Alpilean tablet every day; This is because of its innovation, which makes it possible to lose inches of subcutaneous fat without any side effects or worries.
Alpilean is a special supplement for losing weight that combines several powerful ingredients to speed up the pro fat.
This supplement, which is only sold on their website, was made in the US in a GMP-certified facility. Zack Miller, from Texas, came up with this recipe to help you lose weight by increasing your body's core temperature.
By putting together African mango extract, golden algae extract, Moringa, ginger, turmeric, and citrus bioflavonoids, Alpilean can help you lose weight without making big changes to your routine or diet.
Your metabolism is slow if you eat well and exercise but can't lose weight. Alpilean says that focusing on your body's internal temperature will raise your metabolism, which will cause you to lose fat on its own.
How Alpilean Works
Alpilean reviews from real customers show that it is easier to lose weight slowly and keep your body healthy when your inner core body temperature is balanced and controlled; This makes for a healthy cellular environment that encourages active function and maintenance. The six alpine weight loss ingredients in Alpilean weight loss supplement, help regulate your body temperature; This, in turn, helps you lose weight by regaining your sleeping metabolism. The people who made Alpilean, Zach Miller and Dr. Matthew Gibbs, say that your low internal body temperature may be why you can't lose weight even though you've tried many diets and exercise plans.
According to a new clinical study by doctors at Stanford, your body heat is a surprising new source of belly fat. Researchers used this information to develop Alpilean, a mixture that keeps your body temperature stable.
Alpilean also supports a healthy metabolism because the cellular environment is now in a better place to do its work. It has been shown that turning on the fat cells in the body makes the body make more heat. By doing this, you can keep your body's core temperature steady when you're at rest, which is important for burning calories all day.
Scientists have a lot to say about the main ingredients. Alpilean is a powerful supplement for losing weight. It gives the 250 MG custom blend six active ingredients, which makes it easier for the two catalysts to work together. Chrome and vitamin B12 are these catalysts.
These famous alpine superfoods come from the Thangu Valley and are meant to warm the body. Nutrients like Moringa, citrus bioflavonoids, and African mango seed help the body burn fat faster. Because your metabolism has sped up, your body can burn more calories, even when you're not doing anything.
Here is a list of the six ingredients that make up these tablets and information about how each one works and what science backs it up:

Turmeric
In the Alpilean recipe, turmeric is the first ingredient that is utilized. Turmeric has properties that help fight viruses, bacteria, inflammation, and free radicals. This part helps to lower the temperatures of organs inside the body and fight the internal body temperature. It helps your skin and fights type 2 diabetes, cholesterol, and toxins simultaneously. It helps with better heart health and digestive health. Lastly, it gives you more energy, so your body can burn off much more fat than you have eaten (fat-to-fuel conversion).
In one 2019 study, researchers found that curcumin, the main ingredient in turmeric, improved weight loss results.
Fucoxanthin
A natural substance called fucoxanthin, a marine pigment often found in edible brown seaweed, effectively prevents type 2 diabetes and obesity. It helps prevent obesity because it makes you use more energy.
It helps adipose tissue and lipid metabolism by making more UCP1 in the mitochondria. Because of this, heat is made, and the fatty acids in our bodies are oxidized.
Your body fights the ongoing inflammation that has caused your body temperature to drop with the help of a substance called fucoxanthin, an anti-inflammatory. To speed up your body's metabolism and burn calories, your body needs to be at its normal body temperature, which you may achieve by doing this.
Additionally, this extract promotes the health of the liver, bones, and brain. It boosts your hormones and slowly makes your body burn more calories daily.
Ginger root
Ginger root is a very useful spice that you can use in various recipes for nutritional supplements. Ginger root has been used for a long time to help people digest better. It removes fat, toxins, impurities, and pollutants from your body and gives you much more energy.
Ginger targets your body's temperature by increasing it, just like other alpine compounds do; This helps you lose weight. Researchers from a 2019 study found that ginger helps people lose weight in a big way. Thousands of volunteers took part in the trials.
Ginger root helps you lose weight and improves your health in other ways. It makes it much easier for the liver to work, keeps acidity and reflux under control, and keeps teeth, bones, and the body clean. Not only that, but it is a great way to boost your immune system.
Moringa plant
The drumstick tree leaf, often called Moringa, has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for a long time. Because Moringa has amazing effects on the body's internal temperature, the people who made Alpilean decided to put it in their product.
Most of the time, when insulin levels are high, people gain weight and store fat. But the chlorogenic acid in Moringa can help you control how much sugar is in your blood. It could also help your body digest sugar better and change how much insulin it makes.
It has a lot of good nutrients, and its low glycemic index keeps your blood sugar level from getting too high, which can make you gain weight and feel tired. Moringa can help you keep a healthy weight by making you feel less hungry during the day.
You should know if there is any scientific evidence to back this up. Yes, it is the solution. In this 8-week study of 41 obese people on the same diet and exercise plan, those who took 900 mg of a supplement with Moringa, curry, and turmeric lost 10.6 pounds, while people who took a placebo lost 4 pounds.

A Lipless Face That I Want to Marry, Ch. 4
<- Chapter 3 | Chapter 5 ->
Summary: Chilton’s recovery is slow and painful, and he is a cranky traumatized bastard who might be determined to push you away.
1,878 words
Tumblr media
Twelve days. Six surgeries. Fifteen blood transfusions.
“Did you bring me something to eat?” he whined. Considering he could barely lift his voice above a whisper, it was an impressive feat that he could whine. “Tell me you smuggled something edible that does not go into a tube through my nose.”
“I’m sorry, honey-bear,” you pouted. “But you know I can’t until the doctors OK it.”
“I am a doctor.”
You rolled your eyes. “You’re still at a high risk of going septic—no outside foods covered with outside bacteria. Besides, they won’t let you eat solids yet, anyway.”
“Sanguinaccio dolce. Mango smoothie. Crème brûlée. Yamakake Soba...” he listed off non-solid things you ought to have snuck in for his enjoyment.
“And how would I get them in there?” You rapped your knuckles on the clear acrylic of the hyperbaric oxygen therapy chamber.
He scowled. “This is not a zoo. No tapping the glass.”
You grinned and pulled a chair alongside the chamber so you were sitting next to him.
“Did you bring the laptop?”
Slinging the messenger bag you were carrying off your shoulder, you pulled out a smooth rectangular object and held it up proudly. “That I did. I’m ready to write if you’re up for it,” you said, but added with some hesitation, “Are you sure you want to do this now? You should be resting, and… I don’t know if it’s a good idea for you to relive what happened.”
“I am sure,” he snapped. “I may drop dead at any moment, so we will finish this now. While I still draw breath.”
You stiffened imperceptibly in your chair. The reminder that, despite making it this long, he was far from out of the woods was an unwelcome dagger in your chest, which you quickly plucked out and stuffed away in the box of things you weren’t going to think about.
“As for the wisdom of my reliving it—I feel his teeth every time I close my eyes. I may as well profit from the experience.”
Dr. Chilton was growing anxious that it had been nearly two weeks since his encounter with Francis “The Red Dragon” Dolarhyde, and he had not yet had the chance to publish on the subject. He had wasted far too much time being unconscious and dying—he needed to send a letter in to the American Journal of Psychiatry before some know-nothing crackpot took a swing.
He was the foremost authority on the Dragon—the only person to have communicated with him and lived who was not, himself, a fugitive for murder (or a blind girlfriend, but he doubted Reba was going to publish anything). This was his achievement. His way of staying relevant. The definitive analysis of the Red Dragon for the Journal, and then a spectacular ending for his book once he had his own hands to type with again. No one would take this opportunity from him.
After living with Frederick Chilton for over three years in relative domestic harmony, there were times you forgot what you ever used to dislike about him. Why you hated him so intensely when you first met.
This was not one of those times.
As you took dictation from your glass-encased fiance, you felt a crushing wave of empathy for the man’s poor secretary. He was demanding and fussy, making you read back every sentence to him line by line and mercilessly correcting any mistakes or omissions. He spoke slowly because of his weakened lungs and raw throat, and the thick glass and lack of lips made him difficult to understand, especially with nurses walking through and machinery beeping and whirring in the background—but when you tried explaining that to justify a transcription error, he took it as a personal affront.
You had to support him no matter what, you reminded yourself. This was much harder on him than you. You can always leave if you want you; he can’t. So when he was frustrated and cranky, you were patient and kind.
It took five hours and ten rewrites to get through two thousand words he was satisfied with submitting for publication, and you were nearly crying by the time you left.
***
Thirteen days.
High protein intake is critical to a speedy recovery in burn patients, but Frederick’s mangled digestive system could not tolerate protein very well. Keeping his kidney off the precipice of failure was a tightrope walk involving dietitians planning his every calorie intake, and daily blood work monitoring.
As a medical doctor, Frederick Chilton was aware of, and understood, these things. However he still rejected them as excuses when you once again did not bring him any outside food.
“Then what is the point of you coming?” he snapped, and immediately wished he had not. You stood frozen in the doorway of his recovery room unsure what you did wrong. You were right, of course—his throat felt like he had fellated broken glass. As much as he longed to chew something flavorful, with texture, he could not have swallowed solid food anyway. He closed his eyes. Softer, he asked, “Did you bring the March issue of the Journal of Psychiatry?”
You let out a held breath, unfreezing, and pulled the magazine out of your bag, presenting it with an upbeat flourish. “Delivered to your doorstep.”
“Would you read it to me?” He sighed, humiliated. It was not only that he could not hold the publication—even if you were to flip the pages for him, with only one working eye and no reading glasses, it was hopeless. He was completely dependent on you.
A cough shook his body as if to punctuate how completely he was broken. Useless. Weak.
The metal feet of the visitor’s chair scraped on the white floor like nails on a chalkboard as you dragged it close to his bedside, making him wince until you settled down and helped him browse for an article of interest.
He could barely make himself care about the content of the study. As you read, you rested one arm on the mattress right next to his, where it lay helplessly prone alongside his body, and he could feel the warm weight of you sinking into the cushion. The pressure was uncomfortable on his inflamed tissue, but soothing to something deeper. God, he wanted to be soothed. He wanted so badly to feel any kind of comfort. Anything to latch onto. He closed his eyes and got lost in your voice. For a moment, he could almost forget about the searing pain in each of his limbs and pretend he was at home, in his bed, with you.
The soothing, steady lull stopped, and he opened his eyes, horrified to find you looking intently at his ruined face. His nostrils flared painfully. “Do not stare,” he warned.
“Sorry. I didn’t mean to,” you said. “I finished the article. I thought you fell asleep.” You searched for somewhere else to settle your eyes—the metal bar at the edge of the bed. Your lap. A flower arrangement.
You made such a show of not staring at him that he was even more certain that you had been. He was hideous. Perhaps that entertained you. You were probably already planning for Halloween. Red-hot thoughts swirled around his head like cinders.
Before you could get through a second article, a nurse came in with a tray of mushy hospital food. Humiliation stung deep for you to even see the damned tray, and it annoyed him that you did not immediately excuse yourself. There was no way in Hell he would allow you to watch such a disgusting, embarrassing process—being spoon fed like a toddler, the nurse wiping off his toothy chin of the spillage meant to be kept in check by lips.
“Go home,” he grumbled, leaving no room for argument.
You had barely been there for half an hour.
***
Fourteen days.
“Do you want to look at venues?” you offered, tucking him in with the extra blanket you had a nurse bring because he was cold.
“Venues?” he repeated with clear exasperation. He let out a weak cough.
“It’ll be fun! It’ll take your mind off things.” You grabbed your laptop off the plastic visitor chair where you’d left it, and excitedly held it up so he could see the screen from his prone position. There was already a search typed into google with preview images of scenic gardens glowing with string lights and towering ancient library ballrooms.
“I thought it went without saying our wedding date is… postponed.”
Your shoulders deflated. “I know, but… you’ll be out of the hospital by next year,” barring complications, “so we can use the time to plan. We were going to have to postpone anyway if you couldn’t pick anywhere that was good enough for your standards,” you teased.
“It is pointless.” He laughed bitterly, humorlessly, and your brief smile dropped.
“It isn’t… pointless.”
“I will not be able to visit any of the locations.”
“But we could make a list of places you want to visit when—”
“Stop!” he hissed.
“Oh,” you said quietly. “OK.” You sounded small. Too small.
“I… uh...” Frederick tried to say something. Something to make you sound less small and wounded. Fragments of thoughts and half-formed apologies stuck in his sore throat. Fuck, his skin hurt. Parts of it were starting to heal, but in the short-term that only made it worse, because now it itched, too. Pain. Itch. Guilt. Cold. You deserved so much more than him. “You should go,” he said at last, finally settling on the only way to make it better.
“Wh-what?”
“Just… go,” he croaked.
“I’m sorry. I won’t bring it up again. What do you want to talk about? Or, I can shut up and we can listen to music, or...”
You were apologizing. Again. Because he was being an asshole. It disgusted him how weak he made you. You used to be so fierce. Stubborn and unstoppable. But being with him was slowly killing your fire.
“Get out of this place. I want to be alone.”
It was better this way, he thought. It was better for you to get away from him.
You stared at him silently across what now felt like a vast distance of white laminate flooring. His beautiful, pale, mismatched eyes were fixed on the ceiling, hard and uncompromising. He blinked rapidly.
You wished you knew what was going on in his head. You wished you could fix it for him. But right now, as much as it pained you, he wanted you to leave, and maybe that was the best you could do.
“OK,” you relented. “I’ll be back tomorrow, all right? I love you.”
The only sound as you packed your laptop away and slipped your coat over your shoulders was his ragged breathing, the beeps and tones of hospital machines, and the occasional cough. He waited until you were almost out the door before replying, “I love you, too.”

Potatoes are not the enemy
I thought that today, I would share some thoughts and facts about food and my eating pattern, as they have been a great influence in my life for a long time now. I am vegan, have been vegan since 2016.  I made the change not because of my eating disorder, or, well, perhaps, a little, since back then I ate no meat during working days as I avoided excessive calories. I only ate some meat when I visited my parents. Thus, the transition was easy. At first it was mainly for health reasons, later on I got more concerned about our environment and the wellfare of animals.
This year, I will start to balance out my eating habits. Over the years, I have tried out so many different diets and patterns: fasting, keto diet etc. None of them have been sustainable and rather made me more miserable. For example, one spring I decided to try out a longer fasting, for 120 h. That’s five days! 0 calories, only water and black coffee. I was feeling proud, it wasn’t even that difficult. The fast breaking was a challenge, as I had lost my appetite and stomach had shrinked so much I barely managed to force down one single apple. I guess that was one of the main triggers that resulted in my first ever epileptic seizure. Never again.
I have no idea, why I hopped from one eating habit to another, as I knew from personal experience that what suits me best is a well-balanced diet mostly filled with complex carbs such as whole grain pastas, bread, potatoes, fruits and veggies, and with little less of fat, and no worrying over protein. Back then I had long, beautiful thick hair, strong nails and my skin was glowing.
Before Christmas, our vegan circle in Facebook decided to organize a secret santa event. We all got our names and sent gifts to each other. My secret santa got me this book, as if (s)he knew that I need a nudge to get my things together:
Tumblr media
The whole book praises the foods that have been my fear foods for a long time: pastas, breads, potatoes, barley, quinoa, rice, rye, oats, fruit. It was like a wake-up call and this week I took the courage and stocked my pantry and fridge with all those foods: my shopping cart was full with fruits like grapes, bananas, mangoes, grains like oats, rice, quinoa, rye flour; beans, chickpea flour... and I feel confident and at peace. The whole week I have been making dinner with rice, potatoes, having fruit for snacks, and I enjoy every last bite. I feel light, yet fulfilled. Without anxiety. Most importantly, I stepped on the scale today, since it’s Friday (one of my goals  for this year, 100 total, I will share some light on these later on). I felt calm, and happy. The weight that had slowly climbing up this last half a year, has slowly started to go down, but I dd not feel euphoric or overly excited. I just noted the number, wrote it down and moved on with my morning. I have not been thinking about my weight at all.
I am so grateful for this secret vegan-santa for this book.
I’ll share a picture of my favourite food from this week, a simple fried rice with veggies. I also have started to bake my own bread since I got a bread maker for my birthday. And it is amazing.

The risk it took to blossom (Part 3)
Pairing : Sarawat / Tine (2gether the series)
Summary : Five times someone talked Tine through his self-doubt and helped him see his worth, and the one time he didn’t need them to. Chapter : 3/6
Previous chapters : 1 / 2 /
Next chapters : 4 / 5 / 6 Notes : Hi ! So I can’t let this one go through without a few announcements, so here goes: first, this one kind of hits close to home for me. So if it’s not too much to ask, ben gentle maybe ? Second, there is a possible trigger for eating disorders. It’s not actually what’s going on here, but it’s close enough that I feel more comfortable mentioning it before hand. Be safe guys. In spite of all of this, this is also my favourite installment in this story I think, so hopefully you enjoy it as well !
--------
“And here’s for you, gentlemen !”, exclaims Peuk as he comes back to the table where their joined group of friends is sitting, before putting down a plate with a huge amount of mango sticky rice in front of them and enough spoons to go around.
“Mango sticky rice !” exclaims Tine happily, before he takes a spoon full of the food and eats it all in one go. This is his favourite dessert, and no place does it quite like this restaurant.
All of the boys start eating the dessert as well, happily laughing and teasing each other.
“Wow Tine, it’s a wonder how you can keep that delicate figure with the amount of this you can eat,” Boss teases good-naturedly, and Tine instantly feels himself go tense. He just smiles in response and eats the spoon full he just took, before putting it down, not really hungry for anymore right now.
Maybe Boss is right and he should be a little more reasonable right now. He does have to be on his A Game for this next cheer leading competition in a couple weeks.
“What are you talking about, have you seen him cheer ? Tine obviously burns all of those calories through the energy needed for those ! Not everyone spends their time lounging on the bench, watching their teammates play football like you do,” retorts Man while clapping his friend on the back. The entire table laughs, and almost everyone’s attention soon turns to throwing digs at Boss for various reasons.
Tine feels a hand come up on his knee and squeeze, and he turns towards Fong, sending him a grateful smile for the gesture of solidarity. He can also feel Sarawat’s eyes on him, his boyfriend most likely having noticed that something isn’t quite right, so he reaches under the table to take his hand in his and squeezes it, silently communicating that everything is okay.
His boyfriend being fairly introverted, he tends to be pretty observant in general. When it comes to noticing Tine’s mood though ? There was almost nothing he missed. And it had been the case since before they even started dating. It could be a bit of a pain when Tine was trying to hide his thoughts from his boyfriend, but most of the time it just felt nice to be… seen. Tine loves being this important to someone.
Sarawat reaches for his spoon and fills it with Mango sticky rice, before bringing it to Tine’s mouth to offer him a bite. Tine, no longer having much of an appetite, just smiles gratefully at his boyfriend but shakes his head to indicate that he doesn’t want any.
Sarawat looks at him suspiciously, but doesn’t say anything to push the subject, which Tine is grateful for.
The rest of the evening goes smoothly and Tine has fun with all of them, even though he doesn’t really eat anything else for the rest of the night. As they are all saying goodbye, Fong comes to stand in front of him and watches him intently, lifting a hand up to squeeze at his shoulder, and Tine just pulls his friend into a quick hug, before he turns back towards Sarawat.
Him and Sarawat walk back towards Sarawat’s room in silence, and Tine, knowing that Sarawat noticed that something was off with him, tries to mentally prepare himself for the conversation that is about to happen.
They enter Sarawat’s room and both start getting ready for bed, most of the stuff necessary for Tine’s night time skin care routine having found their way to Sarawat’s room by now.
When Tine is almost done with his routine, and Sarawat is already seated at his bed watching him do it, he finally broaches the subject that Tine was still half hoping to avoid.
“Do you want to talk about what happened ?” he asks softly.
“Talk about what ? Everything is fine,” Tine answers with a forced smile, turning to face Sarawat on the bed now that he is done.
“Come on Tine, I know you. And I know when you’re not fine. We don’t have to talk about it if you don’t want to, but don’t pretend with me, please ?” he asks, his tone almost pleading.
Tine deflates at the words, and he nods his understanding. He’s always amazed how, even now that they are officially together, Sarawat is always the one who is willing to show his vulnerability and ask for those things, while his first instinct is to put up his shields. Looking back, he realizes how brave Sarawat is, always willing to put his heart on the line, and he wants to be a little more like him. He doesn’t need to put up a front for Sarawat, he knows that.
Sarawat pulls himself towards the opposite end of the bed, until he is sitting with his back pressed against the wall and his legs open, and Tine crawls on the bed to seat himself in between them, with his back pressed to his boyfriend’s chest.
Sarawat’s arms instantly go around him, and Tine nuzzles his neck in answer. He feels the other boy press a small kiss to his temple and he tries to draw strength from his boyfriend to start the conversation they are about to have.
“I know he was only joking and that he didn’t mean any harm by it, but it’s just the comment Boss made earlier about the food that kind of got to me,” he finally says, explaining his earlier behaviour.
“Got to you how ?” Sarawat’s hands are resting just above Tine’s hips, and one of his fingers makes its way under Tine’s tee-shirt, softly caressing the skin he can find there while waiting for him to answer.
“Well, it’s just… You know that I take pride in my appearance and how I look, and I work hard for it,” he begins to explain, and he feels Sarawat nod his head behind him. “Okay. Well… No one really knows this, apart from Fong and Type. But for a long time, like through most of my teenage years, really, I was almost constantly dieting. I was constantly watching everything I ate, and counting calories to try and be lean and thin, and trying to look…”
“Chic,” Sarawat completes his sentence and Tine laughs softly.
“Yeah, exactly,” he confirms. “It used to drive Type mad, and he would be so upset that I couldn’t let myself enjoy food without overthinking it, but I just couldn’t stop myself. It got to the point where it became a hyper-fixation and I was becoming miserable because of it, so I decided that it had to stop.”
“Did you ever…” Sarawat starts to ask, before he trails off.
“No, never. I didn’t have an eating disorder, not really, at least. I was just kind of obsessed with calories and how many I was having per day, and I would just watch everything I ate. All the time. Fong is the one that ended up helping me get out of this mentality, actually,” he says with a small smile, forever grateful for what his friend did for him.
“He found a therapist online and I went to see her a couple times, and that really helped. And then, for months, he would cook lunch for the both and us and bring it to me every single day. And I was not allowed to ask how many calories the food contained, or how fattening or sugary it was. And I had to eat all of it. He would cook all of my favourites too, and eventually, I learned to enjoy food again and to let go of this obsession. And honestly, nowadays, I barely give it a thought. I mean, I try to eat healthily and exercise, because I do still care about how I look, but I allow myself to eat whatever I feel like eating and I don’t spend too much time stressing over it all. I mean, you know that,” he explains, and Sarawat just nods silently. They both know the sweet tooth Tine can have at times.
“But yeah… Even if that’s not really how I am anymore, sometimes when people make those kinds of comments, it pulls me back into that mentality a little and I lose my appetite. It’s a lot better, but it’s still a part of me,” he finishes explaining quietly.
He feels Sarawat’s arms pull him closer to his body.
“Thank you for telling me,” he says in a small voice, and Tine just nods in answer, pressing a kiss to his neck.
They lay in silence for a while, Sarawat obviously deep in thought, and Tine knows his boyfriend enough to know that something is on his mind, but he won’t bring up the subject until he feels like Tine would be comfortable with it too.
“What are you thinking about,” he prompts softly, resting one of his hands on Sarawat’s thigh which is resting just next to his.
“It’s just… Don’t take this the wrong way, please. Because I’m truly trying to understand, and I’m not judging. But why do you think you care so much about your looks ?” he asks in a timid voice that Tine almost never gets to hear from his boyfriend. He doesn’t mean to laugh, especially with how serious and considerate Sarawat is being.
But it’s just such a Sarawat thing to ask, he can’t hold the small laughter that comes out. Of course his boyfriend wouldn’t understand. Sarawat is the type to get out of bed, pull on loose pants and a shirt, and call it a day. He’s just effortlessly beautiful that way.
“Well, you happen to like my looks and my body Mister,” he retorts in a teasing voice, and he feels Sarawat laugh against his back.
“I do,” his boyfriend answers simply, one of his hands making its way up his chest until he squeezes it gently.
They may have been together for months now, but the way Sarawat can be so unashamed in expressing his feelings both with his words and those gestures will never cease to amaze Tine.
“Pervert,” comments Tine, laughter in his voice.
“But you know I would still love them as much as I do now no matter what though, right ? Simply because it’s you ?” he asks eagerly, and Tine feels his heart squeeze in his chest.
Sarawat can sometimes be a man of few words, but somehow, he always knows the perfect ones to use in every situation in order to get his point across and reach his goal. Whether that be to make Tine blush, or to completely melt his heart.
“I do,” Tine reassures him, picking up his hand where it’s still resting on his upper chest and pressing a kiss in the middle of his palm.
“I think I care this much because for a long time, it kind of felt like it was the only thing I had to offer,” he finally tries to explain, and he feels Sarawat go tense behind him.
Tine sits up and lifts himself up from where he was laying against Sarawat’s chest, before he turns around so he’s facing him instead. As much as he was enjoying the comfort of Sarawat’s embrace, he kind of needs to see him to be able to explain this more clearly.
“What do you mean ?” Sarawat asks in a small voice, once they’ve both settled into their new position, and Tine can hear the worry behind the question.
“It’s just that… I have the perfect brother,” he finally settles on to try to explain, but he sees Sarawat start to frown.
“Type is pretty great I guess, but I don’t understand what that has to do with anything,” Sarawat says in confusion.
“It’s just that growing up, I would hear all about Type’s great achievements. All the time. And it wasn’t Type’s fault, he never really wanted the attention in the first place. Plus I know it wasn’t easy for him because he got all of the pressure, but…,” Tine is trying to explain this as best as he can, but he realizes that it’s probably making no sense.
“Like every time: with our teachers, with our family, even with my parents sometimes, although I know they didn’t mean to do it, it was just like… Type was the best. In everything,” he continues, looking down at where his hands are resting in front of him.
“And it makes sense, in a way. Type was the one with the good grades, he was the one that was well behaved while I could be a little hyper. He did volunteer work, attended meditation seminars, and just… You know Type, you’ve seen how kind he is. He would always get uncomfortable with the situation and try to bring the spotlight to my successes too. But no matter how hard we tried, it never really took,” Tine continues in a small voice, remembering the feeling of inadequacy he would get sometimes.
For a long time, Type was truly the only one that even really saw him. Like actually saw him, and not just the front he would project to protect himself.
“So we would be at school or we would go to family reunions, and it was always like : ‘Type, heard you did a great job on that short story contest, good job !’ and ‘Tine, you’re looking good son’. And they never meant it in a mean way, it’s just… all they really thought I amounted to, I guess. Or the only thing they could think of when it came to me. And so after a while, it kind of became my thing. Type was the smart one, the kind one, the mature one... and I was the good looking one. And I figured, if it was going to be my thing, then I was going to do the best damn job I could and own it,” he finishes with a self-deprecating smile.
Suddenly realizing that he got lost in his story telling and that Sarawat has been quiet almost the entire time, he finally looks up towards him, only to read the absolute heartbreak on his boyfriend’s face, the corners of his mouth downturned and his eyes misty.
“I’m okay now though Wat, I promise,” he says with a small smile, before pressing a small kiss to his lips.
“Tine… You know that’s not true though, right ? You know that that’s not all you have to offer, and that you are so much more than that, right ?” Sarawat finally asks in a shaky voice, as if almost afraid to hear the answer.
“I do, I know that. It’s just like… This is difficult to explain,” he sighs softly. Why can’t he just find the perfect words to help Sarawat understand ?
“On the one hand, yes, I do know this. I know, intellectually, that that’s not all I am. But on the other hand, sometimes… it doesn’t really feel like I actually know it ? It’s like the logical side of my brain understands, but the side of my brain that controls my emotions hasn’t quite caught up to that fact just yet,” he tries to explain, not sure if he’s getting his point across.  “Does that make sense ?” he finally asks Sarawat.
“I think it does,” he whispers in answer, reaching forward to caress his cheek softly.
“You know your looks aren’t why I love you though, right ?” he continues with a small grin.
And yes. Tine does know that. How could he not, when he sees the pure look of adoration that sometimes crosses Sarawat’s face. One he’s still trying to reconcile with the idea of him being worthy of such a look.
Still, he’s not about to pass this opportunity.
“They aren’t ?” he asks with a small smile, fishing for compliments.
“No. In fact, until your emotions manage to play catch up with the rest of your brain, let me show you exactly why I do,” Sarawat responds.
He pushes Tine backwards until he is lying on his back, before he crawls over him on his hands and knees.
“First, I love you for this,” he whispers, bending down to press a small kiss to the top of Tine’s head.
“You love me for my hair ?” Tine asks, a little confused with the idea of his hair being the first thing to come to Sarawat’s mind.
He feels a huff of air blown on his forehead when Sarawat snorts.
“No, not your hair, Tine.”
Tine thinks for a few seconds, before it finally clicks.
“Oh, my brain ?” he asks, and Sarawat smiles in answer and nods.
“Even after I just asked you if you were talking about my hair ?” he says, laughing at himself.
“Yeah, even then,” Sarawat responds with a fond smile, shaking his head in disbelief.
“Then, I love you for those,” he says, before he bends down and presses a kiss to the hand that Tine has laying on his stomach.
“My hands ?” Tine asks, wondering where Sarawat is going with this one.
“Hmm,” answers Sarawat. “The hands that you use to play guitar and music. The same hands you use to help people and defend those that need it. I also love you for this,” he continues, as he lifts himself back up and presses a quick peck to Tine’s lips.
“My smile ?” Tine asks, giving him one of said smiles.
“Well, yes. That too. And the mouth you use to communicate your every thoughts with. Even knowing that they can range from the wisest to the most ridiculous ones at times,” he says with fondness, and Tine smacks him on the chest, prompting a laugh.
“And more importantly, I love you for this,” he whispers above Tine’s heart, before he presses a small kiss right above it.
Tine’s heart, which had already been beating faster than should be recommended, goes absolutely wild at the words, and he can’t hold himself still anymore.
“Okay, enough of this game. Come up here so I can kiss you properly Saraleo,” Tine ends up demanding, pulling Sarawat’s face towards his so he can finally kiss him like he’s been craving to, and show him how grateful he is.
Tine might not have the best self-confidence right now, but he does have the best boyfriend. And while the front side of his brain catches up with the back side of it, having Sarawat remind him of his worth once in a while sounds pretty damn perfect.

another kind of green (7/10)
Tumblr media
Emma Swan spends her days in pretty white dresses and heavy layers of makeup. Day after day and dress after dress, she poses for pictures and acts like she’s in love and having the happiest day of her life with the man standing next to her.
It’s not. This is all a gig, and at the end of the day, she’s no longer the girl in the pretty dress who’s faking getting married for a magazine cover or a wedding convention. Instead, she’s the girl who probably never wants to get married.
Little does she know, she already is.
Rating: mature
a/n: I apologize for the wait on this one. I’m obviously super spacey lately because I forgot I was supposed to be posting this story🙈

Emma didn’t notice the leaves change.
Yesterday, she swears that she looked outside and all of the trees were full of deep green leaves and that the grass on the ground was an equally vibrant shade. Today, however, there are brown leaves on the ground and orange and yellow leaves hanging off of limbs, and the grass growing next to the sidewalk is browning the slightest bit. She blinked, and the days changed from early September to mid-October.
How in the world?
Where did all of the time go? Wasn’t she just doing a local commercial (her least favorite kind of job) for the autumn festival that’s happening downtown? How is time for that to already be happening? They shoot those weeks and months in advance.
“On your left,” Killian calls out, and Emma doesn’t flinch. She’s used to it.
“You’re late.”
“Traffic.”
“You walk here.”
“A hell of a lot of pedestrians, Swan.”
She rolls her eyes, but she doesn’t slow down her pace, letting her legs keep powering her through this run. She’s on mile two, so Killian really is late. They’ve been getting up and going running a little after six most mornings for the past month. It’s far earlier than Emma would ever normally do it, but she likes having a running partner surprisingly enough and Killian has to go to training at eight every morning. It’s either this or run by herself so that every step is pretty much agony.
Just like she didn’t notice the changing leaves, she never really noticed how Killian wormed his way right into her run.
(At least he buys her smoothies…most of the time.)
(He’s grown fond of his mango one as well, and sometimes she does foot the bill.)
Emma turns to the side to finally look at him. He’s dressed in a pair of joggers and a BPD training sweatshirt he has to wear to the Academy, and he must be leaving directly from here instead of heading back to his apartment to take a shower.
She ran into Graham while grocery shopping last week. He was with his girlfriend, so she didn’t talk for a long time because that’s awkward as hell and she wanted to get out of there as quickly as possible, but she did learn that Killian told Graham that their marriage wasn’t something intentional. She’s not really sure when or where or why, and while something like that would normally piss her off, she’s relieved that the guilt of Graham finding out she got married like that is off her shoulders.
She’d forgotten about seeing him until she saw Killian’s sweatshirt. Graham had one just like that, and life seems to like bringing things back around for her. Maybe she should ask him about talking to Graham, or maybe she should just forget about it and move on.
Everyone else seems to have done so.
“You want to race?”
“Huh?” Emma asks, blinking away until Killian comes back into focus. She’d totally zoned out.
He raises his brows before reaching up to push his hair off his forehead. “Do you want to race me, love?”
“Please,” she scoffs, turning away from him to focus on what’s in front of her, “you couldn’t handle it.”
“Perhaps you’re the one who couldn’t handle it.”
Emma quickly turns to him again. His smirk is obnoxious, and she’s not about to pass that up.
“First one to the bench with marks from where that guy sat on wet paint wins, okay? Loser buys smoothies.”
“You’re on. When do you want to – bloody hell…”
She doesn’t hear the rest of his curse, and she does know that it’s a curse, because she’s already increased her speed and is sprinting as fast as she possibly can. It’s at least half a mile until that bench, maybe a little over, and Emma can run that far this fast without any issue. Her problem is that Killian, even though he was slower than her when he started, has started to catch up to her. His strides are already longer than hers, but with his speed catching up after so much training, she needs every advantage she can get.
Smoothies aren’t something to play around with.
He’d be so obnoxious if he won.
Killian’s on her heels for every step of the run. His muttered words and the panting of his breath hover just behind her, and she knows that if she were to suddenly stop running, he’d stumble over her. But she doesn’t stop. She lets her legs and her lungs burn and keeps going until she gets that adrenaline high that she’s been searching for. It’s been elusive lately, most of her runs dragging along at a snail’s pace, but this isn’t a long run anymore. It’s a sprint to the finish line.
Very literally.
Deep breath in. Deep breath out.
The bench is in her sight now, the poor markings left behind by someone who ruined their pants by sitting in wet paint last week, and she propels herself forward to get there before Killian when she feels a hand on her wrist, tugging her back, until she’s falling to the ground, her elbow hitting hard against the grass until she rolls over onto her back and feels the weight of Killian on top of her.
“What the fuck?” she grunts. All of the breath has been knocked out of her, and Killian’s entire body pressing down on her doesn’t help. “What was that for?”
“Sorry,” Killian grumbles, propping himself up on his elbows to lessen his body weight. His cheeks are flushed a slight pink, and his hair is falling over his forehead in sweaty sections. It makes him look younger than his usual penchant for styling his hair off his forehead. Maybe her brain just isn’t functioning correctly and he looks exactly the same. “Are you hurt?”
“I imagine my ass and my elbow are going to be bruised, but other than that, I’m fine.”
“You were about to be run over by a bike, love. Did you not hear me calling you or the incessant ringing of the bell?”
“Uhhh.”
“Exactly. I saved your life, and I think a little gratitude is in order. I do normally prefer to do more enjoyable things with a woman on her back, after all. Of course, you would know.”
His brows quickly wiggle across his forehead, and when his tongue runs over his bottom lip, heat curls between Emma’s legs that has absolutely nothing to do with how sweaty she is from running.
“Just like our marriage, I’m wiping that part from my memory.” “Ah, but you weren’t drunk for it. You actually remember it. Tell me, darling, what was your favorite part of that night? Was it when my mouth pressed into your neck in the hallway or was it when it pressed into another rater delicious – ”
“Okay,” Emma mutters, pushing her hands up against his chest until he rolls off of her and onto his back on the grass, “that’s enough of that. I haven’t eaten yet today, and you owe me a smoothie.”
Changing the subject. She has to change the subject.
“I don’t believe you won the race.”
“I was going to if you hadn’t tugged me down and nearly caused me to break a bone.”
“I was trying to pull you to the side. You’re the one who went down.”
“Semantics.” “I don’t mean to upset you, Swan, but I think we make quite the team. When it comes to running, of course. I save your life from a horrific bicycle accident, and you, well, I’m not sure what you do.”
Emma sucks in a deep breath before exhaling and twisting her head to the side. Killian’s already looking at her, lips pressed into a soft smile, and he reaches over toward her until his fingers are brushing against her skin as he tucks loose tendrils of her hair behind her ear
Did she just get a chill or was that her sweat drying?
Getting her sports bra off is practically going to be impossible. At least she can do it in privacy.
Sports bras are obviously both the best and the worst.
“I kick your ass in races.”
Killian laughs, finger brushing against her cheek again. Her body is basically a puddle now. “I’ll buy our smoothies, Swan, but you have to agree to let me take you out for your birthday next week.”
“How do you even know my birthday is next week?”
“It was on our annulment papers.”
“Oh.”
Killian twist over until he’s on his side and propping his chin up in his hand and tapping his temple. “I know you may not remember things, at least according to your manager, but I do have an excellent brain up here.”
“I’m ignoring you basically calling yourself a genius because I have to ask: when the hell did you talk to Mary Margaret?”
“Last week. Ariel was talking to her on the phone at a shoot, and they got to talking about how I’m reliable while you are not.” “I have only missed one appointment, but Mary Margaret holds onto that and brings it up every time I almost forget something. It was for an understandable reason, too.”
“And what was that?”
Emma blinks, and her mind catches up to what she just said. Shit.
“It was nothing.”
“Oh, no, it was definitely something. Inquiring minds want to know.”
“Yeah, well, inquiring minds don’t get to know.”
Emma quickly gets up from the ground, moving so quickly that she’s dizzy, but she doesn’t want to be lounging on the grass any longer. People are running by them, dirty shoes near her face, and she doesn’t even want to think about how many animals have relieved themselves where she was just resting her face.
She doesn’t want to think about anything other than getting some calories in her, taking a shower, and meeting Ruby at Flock so they can shoot next month’s catalog of clothes for the website.
“Swan,” Killian calls out, but she keeps on walking. “Swan! Love! Emma!”
“Not in the mood, Jones.”
“You were two minutes ago, and I cannot figure out what I possibly could have done to piss you off in that time.”
“You didn’t do anything.”
“I obviously did something.”
“Can’t you for once just do what I say and leave me alone?”
“Perhaps if you had actually told me to bloody leave you alone.”
Emma quickly turns on her heels to look at him. She nearly smacks herself into his chest, but she doesn’t need another collision with him, not today.
“Killian,” she says slowly, “leave me alone.”
His gaze doesn’t move away from hers, deep blue staring at her and making her want to back away, but she doesn’t. In the back of her mind, she knows he’s done nothing wrong, that he isn’t the one who’s actually pissed her off, but he’s here. What better excuse is there than that?
“If that’s what you want,” he begins, leaning down and giving her a mocking bow with a flourish of his hand, “then that’s what I’ll do.”
-/-
“This is the smallest piece of fabric I’ve ever seen.”
“I’ve seen your underwear drawer, Ems. I know that’s not true.”
Emma rolls her eyes at Ruby and tugs on the top, adjusting it until it covers her boobs. How this boutique expects any normal person to be able to wear this piece of fabric is beyond her.
“It’s ridiculous,” Emma continues, still trying to tug it down, “and this is supposedly a winter sweater. Has anyone here ever actually experienced a winter in Boston? This isn’t going to cut it.”
“Who peed in your Cheerios this morning?”
“That’s a disgusting phrase.”
“It’s obviously very apt today, though.”
“I’m fine.”
“You’re a liar.”
“No, I’m just cold.”
Emma turns on her heels and walks back out in front of the camera and the white wall as the photographer and the owner of the boutique wait for she and Ruby to be ready. Emma does the standard poses, flipping her hair and fake laughing, and then she trades off with Ruby until they’ve both gone through the entire catalog of clothes that were on the racks in the side of the warehouse.
This is the weirdest job, and she’s honestly not sure that she enjoys it much anymore. That seems like a problem for a day where she’s not already pissed off at the world.
“I will buy you lunch if you tell me what’s wrong with you.”
“Nope,” Emma sighs, tugging on her coat and fluffing her hair out as they get ready to leave the warehouse. “You cannot bribe me.”
“Okay, but what if we go back to my place, and I make Granny’s onion ring recipe?”
Emma stops and turns to Ruby, her eyes narrowing at Ruby’s wolfish grin. “You’re evil.”
“But you love me.” “That’s debatable.”
“Nah,” Ruby sighs, wrapping her arm around Emma’s shoulder, “it’s really not.”
They walk the fifteen minutes to Ruby and Mulan’s apartment, the chill of the air nipping at Emma’s nose, but once they’re inside and the heat is on and there’s that wonderful smell of onion rings and grilled cheese being cooked, Emma’s no longer freezing. She’s warm and calm and maybe she doesn’t have to be as pissy as she has been today.
“So, Mulan says you haven’t come to class in a few weeks.”
Ruby says it casually, doesn’t even bother to turn around, but Emma knows that this is the beginning of her fishing into what Emma has been doing. The woman isn’t sly at all.
“I’ve been doing other things.”
“Other things or…men?”
“Running. I’ve been running, Rubes.”
“Mhm, and you wouldn’t happen to be running every day with a very handsome man that makes me thankful that I am interested in both men and women while poor souls like you only get men?”
Emma huffs into her glass of water. “How could you possibly know about that?”
“Because I, too, avoid my girlfriend’s Pilates studio and like to go running that path sometimes.”
Well, shit. She didn’t think anyone really knew she was doing that.
“We both run. We happen to run into each other. It’s a thing.”
Ruby turns around and arches a brow, cocking her head to the side. “What’d he do to piss you off today? Might as well just skip to that question.”
“He didn’t piss me off.”
“You don’t get onion rings if you don’t tell the truth.” “Screw you.”
“That was the deal.”
“Yeah, well, I’m not very good at keeping deals.”
Ruby sighs and plates another few onion rings before turning the stove off so that the cackling of the grease quiets down. “You’re going on runs with the man that you married.” Emma opens her mouth, but Ruby holds her finger up. “Yeah, I know about that. You know Marg can’t keep things to herself. I also know that if you want to shake him off, you wouldn’t be spending so much voluntary time with him. So did he actually do something to piss you off that I need to kick his ass for, or is this just Emma being Emma?”
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“You know exactly what that means.”
Emma ignores her and reaches up to take an onion ring only for Ruby to hold the plate away from her. “Are you serious?”
“Absolutely.”
Sighing, Emma crosses her arms over her chest and leans back on the barstool. She was pretty sure Ruby was joking about Emma having to talk about her mood, but apparently, she wasn’t.
“Nothing is wrong with me.”
“Yeah, and I’m a rocket scientist.”
“You could be.”
“Emma, do you like your husband? Is that what’s freaking you out?”
“He is not my husband.”
“You’re evading the question.”
“No,” she mumbles, “I’m not, and no, I don’t like Killian. I guess I just slept on the wrong side of the bed this morning. Can I have my onion rings now? The full plate?”
Ruby’s brow stays arched until it falls so it can furrow with her other one. “Do you really not want to talk about it?”
“There’s really nothing to talk about.”

Emma’s a liar.
She’s a lying liar who lies, but she’s not about to admit that to anyone other than her glass of wine and the can of icing that she’s eating. However many calories she burned today don’t matter because she’s consumed all of them since this afternoon.
It’s totally been worth it.
Mostly.
She can’t binge watch Poldark and not drink wine and eat icing, right? That would just be stupid.
Her phone buzzes on the couch cushion next to her.
Killian Jones: I owe you a smoothie. Is there a chance I can buy you one tomorrow?
Shit. Of course he’s texting her.
And of course he’s being nice.
The man knows exactly how to be an ass. Can’t he be one of those right now?
Can’t she not want to text him back?
Emma Swan: I feel like I should be the one buying you one since I was so bitchy today.
Killian Jones: I wouldn’t say that.
Killian Jones: Because I think you’d murder me if I did.
Killian Jones: And also because it’s not true.
Emma snorts into her wine, taking another sip, and then leaning forward to put the glass on her coffee table.
Emma Swan: It was true. You can say it.
Killian Jones: I’d rather you not kick my ass. You could do it anyways, but training already beat me down today. I’m in a weakened state.
Emma Swan: That bad, huh?
Killian Jones: It was like I ran for six hours without stopping while also having to climb over obstacles and have men my own age yelling at me while twenty-one years old just ran by with no hesitations.
She laughs again before stretching back onto the couch. She should crawl back into bed and get herself comfortable, let herself fall asleep, but this is pretty comfortable too.
Killian Jones: But I love it.
Emma Swan: Yeah?
Killian Jones: It’s awful, but I also feel like I have a purpose, you know? I’ve wanted this for so long.
Emma’s heartrate picks up, and she closes her eyes and drops her phone to her chest. She doesn’t know. She doesn’t have some kind of great want that’s driven her life. She’s always been a foster kid, someone who isn’t sure what’s coming around the corner, and even when she aged out of the system, she still didn’t know. There was Neal and jail and…he ruined her life. Neal ruined her fucking life. He took away her choice for her life, and even though she’s doing okay now, she could be doing better. It’s not something she wants to think about because a decade has gone by since then, since he abandoned her like most everyone else has, but rarely a day goes by where he doesn’t come up in some way.
But really, it hasn’t been a decade. It’s been three years since he showed up at her apartment door, finding her somehow, and acted like not a day had gone by, like he hadn’t done this awful thing to her and like she must still love him.
She didn’t then.
She doesn’t now.
Neal will always be her first love and the person who loved her first, and what a shame that is.
That’s why she missed her shoot that day. Mary Margaret had been pissed, had gotten angry with Emma for maybe the first time ever, but then she’d sobbed into Mary Margaret’s shoulder as everything in her life felt like it was falling apart.
Again.
And here she is letting Neal worm his way into her thoughts again, into her life. He’s not around anymore. She doesn’t know what he’s doing with his life, and he really doesn’t deserve to occupy so much space. She’s been doing it for years, wearing these pretty white dresses at least once a week and pretending to be someone who could even think about getting married when it’s never been what she wanted, not after him.
Not even with Graham.
Maybe one day she’ll figure out how to move on completely and how to leave Neal in the past where he belongs.
She’s got to get out of this headspace before she drinks herself into an oblivion, so she opens her eyes and looks back at her phone. No one can see her face or hear her thoughts, and even if she is absolutely terrified of Killian Jones, he’s the only thing that’s making her feel remotely safe right now.
Emma Swan: I’m happy for you!
Killian Jones: Thank you, love.
Killian Jones: Did I tell you about the guy who is now wearing an eye patch because of an unfortunate fall on the rope climb?
Emma Swan: This sounds like the beginning of a really bad high school soap opera.
Killian Jones: Oh, but it’s even better than that.
Killian tells her the story, as well as several others from his first few weeks at the Academy, and Emma distracts herself with it, finding that it’s easy to get lost in Killian’s stories. Even texting, he has a way with words that has her easily being swept up into the conversation so that her lips tug at the corners and there’s a smile permanently press into her skin. He’s funny and charming and he deals with her shit even when he shouldn’t. He should run away and never look back.
The thought causes her breath to hitch and her chest to pang and…
Maybe Ruby was right. Maybe she does have a thing for Killian.
Oh shit.
