Jordan Peterson began the year by attacking Justin Trudeau because he made conversion therapy illegal and to close it off he decided to attack a man complaining about the internationally well know issue of genocide of Canadian natives trought innaction towards crimes done against them, specially kidnappings and murder of their women, by calling him as many insults his raw meat parasite infested brain pestered with high cholesterol could come up with. And notice the increase in likes, that man knows exactly what kind of scum he's entertaining.

The original Star Wars film, Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, has been translated into over 50 languages. Norwegian, French, Icelandic, Navajo — and now Ojibway. Dennis Daminos Chartrand, a member of Pine Creek First Nation who voices Darth Vader in the film and helped translate the original text, says he hopes having his language incorporated into the "iconic" film will promote it — not just within his community, but beyond. Chartrand spoke with Day 6 host Brent Bambury ahead of the film's release on the national Indigenous broadcast channel APTN next month, and just days after the death of original Darth Vader actor James Earl Jones. He spoke about his hopes for the film, challenges translating the story into Ojibway and why Star Wars resonates so much with him as an Indigenous person. Here is part of their conversation.

I know that news stories about Indigenous people leading ecological stewardship movements are very charismatic and heartwarming, and if your heritage or culture inspires you to work towards better care for the environment that is incredible and extremely admirable, but we're clear on the fact that Indigenous rights and Land Back movements shouldn't depend on First Nations people being mystical Noble Savage, Closer To Nature poster children, yes?
Indigenous self-determination applies to the person who becomes a teacher because she wants to help fill a need in underserved northern reservations. It applies to the person who studies engineering because the job market is good and he likes cool cars. It applies to the woman who works a government job because it's a stable job with a decent salary on which to raise her kids, and the woman who works a government job because she wants to represent and be a voice for her people. It applies to the person who is a lawyer trying to correct the over-incarceration of First Nations people, and her son who wants to be a professional baseball player because he loves sports. It applies to the grad student who wants to bring traditional knowledge into field work, and the goth hairdresser who spends every weekend going to punk shows and anime conventions in the city. It applies to the person who considers themself Two Spirit, and the person who uses non-binary instead because they dont feel that umbrella term fits them. None of these examples are hypotheticals- these are all people I personally know, either friends or family friends or even members of my family. All of these people are equally Indigenous, whether or not they fit your image of what a marginalized people's priorities "should" be. They are not gone, and they are not "stuck in the past". Happy National Indigenous People Day. Do better.

Jonathan Labillois, 'Still Dancing', 2014 "Mr. Labillois' Artist Statement: I donated this to the Montreal Native Women's Shelter to raise awareness of missing and murdered Native women in Canada. I hoped sharing it with others would bring this issue to the minds of many people, and hope that many of our sisters, mothers, aunts or daughters will never be forgotten. The idea for the title came from my little sister who said, "Dancers dance for those who cannot, the sick, the elders, and those who are gone. It's like all those women are still dancing thru her." Lheidli T'enneh musician Kym Gouchie is keeping First Nations languages alive for the next generation. And she's doing it by recording children's songs with the help of her drum, a new ukulele, phone voice memo recordings of her Granny's voice and an armful of firewood.
Gouchie's children's album, Shun beh nats'ujeh, released on June 13, means, "We are Healing through Songs."
The album features songs Gouchie wrote and performed in English as well as her ancestral languages of Dakelh, Secwepemctsin and Cree.
"These languages are part of my DNA and my blood memory. When we hear the language being spoken, it stirs something up in us," Gouchie says.
