I hate that my daughter's dog is terrified of wind and heavy rain but I love that the minute I tuck him in underneath my weighted blanket and he puts his nose against my knee, he stops shivering and trembling and goes immediately to sleep.

I hate that my wife's dog, who was stray for an extended period, has terrible nightmares sometimes where he cries and shakes in his sleep, but I love that I can interrupt them by saying "Rumba is a good boy. You're safe, Rumba," and then he'll wag his tail in his sleep, wake up enough to noodle closer to me, and fall back asleep with my hand on his neck.

I hate that they ever hurt or are scared. I love that they trust me to fix their hurt and that they feel safe with me.
