Crochet Cat Blanket Pattern + Tutorial
Crochet Cat Blanket Crochet Cat Blanket Crochet this cute Crochet Cat Blanket for your feline friends. This design by Yarnspirations is pretty simple as it involved alternating two stitches. This allows for very little gaps between the stitchwork. Nothing is worse than cuddling your hurt, sick or elderly pet and their paws are popping through the stitchwork. In a recent visit to the vet, there…

Machine washed all my recent swatches. I should've taken a before photo for all of them but I forgor. Most of these have noticeable wrinkling which if I were more patient I would've controlled against. But at the end of the day if I'm going to make either a blanket or a sweater out of an machine dry-able yarn, I'm going to throw it in the dryer and live with whatever comes out.
Since I intend for this to be a master post for these swatches for me to refer back to, I'll update in a couple days with any that noticeably change gauge/get less wrinkled with relaxation. (Which I do expect, the "washed gauge" listed below should be taken with a grain of salt)
Tumblr media
Willow Yarns Daily DK in Coffee (left), Willow Yarns Daily Worsted in Pomegranate (right)
Daily Dk swatch; 36 Stitches wide, US 6 (4.0mm) needles Unwashed Gauge; 24 stitches by 33 rows (per 4 inches) Washed Gauge; 24 stitches by 36 rows (per 4 inches)
Daily Worsted swatch; 30 Stitches wide, US 7 (4.5mm) needles Unwashed Gauge; 22 stitches by 29 rows (per 4 inches) Washed Gauge; 22 stitches by 31 rows (per 4 inches)
Notes: These two value wools held up as expected to the washer/dryer. That is, not as well as Wool of the Andes Superwash (WotAS), but not Terribly. Putting WotAS through a cleaning cycle resulted in very little change in how the final product looked, there's a little pilling but the actual stitches are very clearly defined. With the Willow line, it's like the actual yarn is superwash (I'm able to unply the tails on these swatches fairly easily) but there's a halo around the yarn that is non superwash and thus felting. It doesn't seem to effect the actual fabric much, but it does make these swatches look more "aged" in comparison to the socks I knit out of WotAS even tho these swatches have only had one washer cycle and the socks have had multiple + wear. It's very possible that with a wool cycle washer/dryer, the surface felting would be less pronounced.

Premier Basix in Mahogany, Herrschners Supreme Worsted in Carmine
Premier Basix swatch; 30 Stitches wide, US 8 (5.0mm) needles Unwashed Gauge; 18 stitches by 26 rows (per 4 inches) Washed Gauge; 18 stitches by 27 rows (per 4 inches) Notes; The name does not lie, basic as hell value acrylic. Didn't get incredibly softer in the wash and feels very "sturdy" for value acrylic. Good stitch definition tho.
Herrschners Supreme Worsted swatch; 30 Stitches wide, US 8 (5.0mm) needles Unwashed Gauge; 20 stitches by 26 rows (per 4 inches) Washed Gauge; 20 stitches by 26 rows (per 4 inches) Notes; Possibly the most accurate Caron Simply Soft dupe I've ever seen. If I didn't hate that yarn I would be more impressed. Good drape for a worsted acrylic and impressive stitch definition.
Tumblr media
Herrschners 2-ply Classic Afghan in Almond, Herrschners Baby Wonder in Sandbox
Herrschners 2-ply Classic Afghan swatch; 40 Stitches wide, US 4 (3.5mm) needles Unwashed Gauge; 26 stitches by 33 rows (per 4 inches) Washed Gauge; 26 stitches by 36 rows (per 4 inches) Notes; This yarn is worse than the Herrschners Afghan yarn in practically every way. It was less pleasant to knit (had a plastic feel), less soft overall, and the scarring from wrinkles is far more pronounced. I would be less negative about this yarn if I didn't buy the superior version in the same lot but it is what it is.
Herrschners Baby Wonder swatch; 36 Stitches wide, US 6 (4.0mm) needles Unwashed Gauge; 23 stitches by 30 rows (per 4 inches) Washed Gauge; 23 stitches by 31 rows (per 4 inches) Notes; The tension change from stockinette to garter really fucked this swatch up, it's rolling up noticeably more than the other swatches. Other than that, this yarn is pretty uneventful? It's not particularly soft nor particularly not soft. It's not something I want to rub my face on but I could wear a garment made from it without issue. The wool blend plays well with the acrylic in this yarn and the stitch definition is nice at this gauge.
Tumblr media
Lion Brand Pound of Love in Straw, Herrschners Worsted 8 in Espresso
Lion Brand Pound of Love swatch; 30 Stitches wide, US 8 (5.0mm) needles Unwashed Gauge; 20 stitches by 26 rows (per 4 inches) Washed Gauge; 20 stitches by 29 rows (per 4 inches) Notes; I do not like this yarn but I got it for extremely cheap so I decided to throw it into this swatch mix and it's still the same. Has a rough plasticy texture in comparison to the other value acrylics I tested here. My biggest problem with it continues to be how inconsistent the texture is within the same ball of yarn, in this single ball I've used it's gone from relatively soft to relatively rough and back.
Herrschners Worsted 8 swatch; 30 Stitches wide, US 7 (4.5mm) needles Unwashed Gauge; 20 stitches by 26 rows (per 4 inches) Washed Gauge; 20 stitches by 28 rows (per 4 inches) Notes; I expected to utterly hate this yarn but I'm pleasantly surprised by it. The texture is Odd? I've not used a yarn that felt like this one for a very long time, it feels rather unenjoyable in the ball but knits up wayyy softer. I should've bought a lighter colour for this swatch since it's hard to tell the stitches from each other. I'll definitely consider using this yarn over my beloved Big Twist Value for blankets in the future.
Tumblr media
Herrschners Afghan in Bing Cherry, Held Single (left) and Held Double (right)
Held Single swatch; 40 Stitches wide, US 4 (3.5mm) needles Unwashed Gauge; 27 stitches by 35 rows (per 4 inches) Washed Gauge; 27 stitches by 36 rows (per 4 inches)
Held Double swatch; 30 Stitches wide, US 8 (5.0mm) needles Unwashed Gauge; 20 stitches by 28 rows (per 4 inches) Washed Gauge; 20 stitches by 29 rows (per 4 inches)
Notes: The real winner of this whole swatching is Herrschners Afghan held single. There's nothing wrong with it held double really (other than the terrible wrinkle but alas that's my fault) but held single, this yarn has incredible drape, softness, and stitch definition. For a really long time I've really wanted to knit a thin v neck sweater to replace one I had a good decade ago, but I've not found a yarn that would be worth the cost (both currency and labor) to justify knitting a sweater in my size at such small gauge. But This yarn absolutely hits that mark. A few negatives; Mild sheen (personal dislike, tho it's not terrible in this yarn). Had the most knots of any of the yarns I tested (I believe there was 3 total, 2 in one ball, 1 in the other). Center pulling this yarn was NOT fun, had major yarn barf that really wanted to tangle in on itself for one of the balls and the yarn is so light and airy it was hard to untangle.

Herrschners Aran in Heather, Premier Anti Pilling Everyday in Walnut
Herrschners Aran swatch; 30 Stitches wide, US 7 (4.5mm) needles Unwashed Gauge; 20 stitches by 28 rows (per 4 inches) Washed Gauge; 20 stitches by 28 rows (per 4 inches) Notes; Terrible. yarn. The nicest thing I can say about it is that I like the colour and that it holds it's shape well. It feels like the world's scratchiest wool but clearly made out of plastic and broken dreams. I've never had an acrylic yarn make my hands itch before. The only thing I could realistically see using this yarn for is something like baskets/yarn bowls.
Premier Anti Pilling Everyday swatch; 30 Stitches wide, US 8 (5.0mm) needles Unwashed Gauge; 19 stitches by 25 rows (per 4 inches) Washed Gauge; stitches by 27 rows (per 4 inches) Notes; The other yarn that reminded me of Caron Simply Soft but not nearly as impressive as the Herrschners Supreme Worsted. It does feel more sturdy than the Supreme Worsted but is maybe half as soft with a much worse drape. The only way I would buy this yarn again is if it was dirt cheap, otherwise it doesn't bring anything to the table that other yarns don't but better (other than maybe being anti pilling, tho I've never had a real issue with pilling from my value acrylics).

A day for finishing projects. First up, a plain but functional knit beanie, for charity:
Tumblr media
Details: Caron One Pound, “Midnight Blue,” size 8 needles (circular and dpn). Mistake Rib is my favorite.
More importantly, the blanket I crocheted for my daughter is finally all DONE:
Tumblr media
Details: Cascade 220 Superwash, Gold Fusion and Dark Violet, size F crochet hook. Identical (save for colors used) to the blanket I crocheted for my son.
Both completed just in time for the 100° F weather forecast tomorrow….

Good news! The coat is nearly done!
Weird news: somehow the coat is a little longer than the photo on the first row of blue. It should have needed a matching row of blue under it to get that long.
I'm supposed to get 6 stitches per inch, which I have in the knitpicks brava (all the citrus colors). I got 5 in the blue, but it's Caron One Pound, which is slightly thicker and causes this issue at times.
What IS surprising is how much COAT this coat is. I assumed Size 36 meant bust, but perhaps I was wrong. But I can't find a vintage sizing chart to confirm. I can say that the row measurement is off. It's about 1/4" an inch wider per three rows, so 1/2" per stripe (they're all six rows). So, yeah, that accounts for the extra width, but I truly can't figure out the extra length. Maybe it's because they're worked in the round.
Anyway, it's currently being washed to see if I can loosen the fibers a bit because this was one of those "Use a worsted but also a 3.5 hook."
If it comes together in the end, it'll likely become Sean's. Fits his shoulders like a dream, and that's a minor miracle for a mistake.

So I fell off the wagon with my daily check ins because I’m working again (yaaay) but we’re super busy and I’ve started a blanket as my mindless project while I’m working overtime and weekends so
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Day 2 of working on my crocheted blankie— my grandma gave me this random yarn from goodwill (99 cents). I’m guessing it’s something like Caron One Pound because it’s 1-ish pound (~.5kg) and seems like an acrylic worsted weight. I’m guessing this will make a blanket that’s like a meter square???? Because Caron One Pound is 812 yards/742 meters

I have finished!!!!! my second mabel sweater!!!!!!!!!!!!!! little ufo my beloved 🛸🛸
Tumblr media
(I can't find a good picture of her in this one so you just get, my sweater.)
this one worked up VERY quickly, since the picture was only on the front panel!! I got it done in two weeks, compared to the four weeks the tree one took, which was really fun! i think it looks very charming, but not quite as.....sleek as the tree one looks? maybe because the ufo has more of a shape-shape than the trees did. but that's like, an identifiable ufo, right?? I think so.
and yet, this one gave me????? quite a bit of trouble??????????? I don't know what happened. the front panel gained 3 stitches, back panel gained 3, and the sleeves were like a mile too long, even if they had the exact same number of rows. so I did pull out seven rows of the sleeves, and honestly I could've pulled out one or two more! but it sits much better now. the back panel also........it pulls up a little. it curves up at the bottom?? not in a bad way!! still sits great, just a thing it does. I also had to redo the collar -- the first collar I put on was, inexplicably too small. so I adjusted it and now it's a touch too big. BUT I'M NOT TOUCHING THIS SWEATER ANYMORE. IT IS WHAT IT IS!
I do wish I knew what happened though!!!! maybe my tension was off in parts???? maybe it was the yarn????? which is super weird to me -- tree sweater was made with caron simply soft, and this one was mostly caron one pound (which is the same weight as the simply soft, but just a touch, I mean really barely perceptible at ALL but definitely somehow, thicker) which is actually the yarn the pattern calls for!!!!!! I don't know! mysteries. 🧶 the sleeves were also not turned in the round, since it was a solid color with no pattern to account for. maybe that did something to the length of the sleeves??? I will never know.
next up is the sprinkles sweater!! I was working on that one first but had. some Math wrong on it. when I was repositioning the sprinkles in the pattern. so I'm going to move some stuff around and I think shrink the sprinkles and add another sprinkle pattern to really give variety. oh and have different color ribbing!!!!! but i will DEFINITELY measure things against the tree sweater so whatever happened with the ufo does not happen again!!!!

Recently finished my first knit sweater! It took me about 4 months. The pattern is the classic sweater from DarlingJadore on etsy, and I used caron one pound in the color dark grey mix. It took me around a skeain and a half for a size large. I ended up finishing it just in time for the below zero temps in my area. Definelty loved the pattern, and am planning to use it again!

Crochet Bold Angles Pillow Pattern + Tutorial
Crochet Bold Angles Pillow Crochet Bold Angles Pillow The Crochet Bold Angles Pillow is based on a graphghan type of project. The panels you see are not separate and then sewn together. They are based on following a graph and changing the colours when needed to maintain the design. Technically speaking, this is not a hard design as the angles are consistent and the stripes are the same width. As…

with  wyllas  caron  &  aurore caron    /    @gcldenflwer & @aurorecaron where:   the great hall. when:   midway through the evening celebration.
watching  one  piece  of  his  heart bind herself to another for all her days gave the lord of godsgrace very little reason to smile, but he’d maintain a neutral expression, a fragile one, and thankfully he was known for his quietness in recent years so no one looked twice while he remained on the sidelines for most of the night, watching the dancing rather than partaking. until a welcomed face caught his eye amongst the crowd. it was as if the gods themselves were reminding him that while his heart had lost one it had reunited with another, one trystane had only thought he would ever embrace again in his memories. their moments shared since their kiss rushed to the forefront of him mind, awaking not only a smile but a sense of boldness within the allyrion that he’d thought lost to his youth.
Tumblr media
he strode through the crowd with eyes locked on wyllas. his heart pounded in his chest, still possessing a reluctance to draw too much attention to himself, but bravery - love even - kept him moving until he stood before the other man. only then did he realize that lady aurore stood beside him. quickly, he nodded his head in greeting to her.        ❝  lady aurore. you look lovely this evening. i’m surprised lady ravenna could bear leaving you alone.  ❞        as quickly as he looked at her, he looked away. warmth and affection swam in dark hues as he looked upon wyllas. there was never a moment where trystane didn’t think he looked handsome, but tonight, seeing him dressed in his finest attire, he looked more god than man. his heart stuttered.        ❝  wyllas.  ❞        fondness bled into his words. ignoring any hesitation, he reached out and grasped the other’s hand, raising it so he could place a kiss on the caron’s knuckles.        ❝  would you do me the honor of joining me for this dance?  ❞

The mission was led by Colonel Paul Tibbets, who had flown the lead B-17 - “Butcher Shop” - on the first combat mission flown by the Eighth Air Foprce three years earlier on August 17, 1942. The crew included copilot Robert Lewis, bombardier Tom Ferebee, navigator Theodore Van Kirk, and tail gunner Robert Caron.
Pilot Paul Tibbets: “We turned back to look at Hiroshima. The city was hidden by that awful cloud… boiling up, mushrooming, terrible and incredibly tall. No one spoke for a moment; then everyone was talking. I remember (copilot Robert) Lewis pounding my shoulder, saying ‘Look at that! Look at that! Look at that!’ (Bombardier) Tom Ferebee wondered about whether radioactivity would make us all sterile. Lewis said he could taste atomic fission. He said it tasted like lead.”
Navigator Theodore Van Kirk recalled the shockwaves from the explosion: “(It was) very much as if you’ve ever sat on an ash can and had somebody hit it with a baseball bat… The plane bounced, it jumped and there was a noise like a piece of sheet metal snapping. Those of us who had flown quite a bit over Europe thought that it was anti-aircraft fire that had exploded very close to the plane.” On viewing the atomic fireball: “I don’t believe anyone ever expected to look at a sight quite like that. Where we had seen a clear city two minutes before, we could now no longer see the city. We could see smoke and fires creeping up the sides of the mountains.”
Tail gunner Robert Caron: “The mushroom itself was a spectacular sight, a bubbling mass of purple-gray smoke and you could see it had a red core in it and everything was burning inside. As we got farther away, we could see the base of the mushroom and below we could see what looked like a few-hundred-foot layer of debris and smoke and what have you… I saw fires springing up in different places, like flames shooting up on a bed of coals.”
Six miles below, the people of Hiroshima were waking up and preparing for their daily routines. Up to that point, the city had been largely spared by the rain of conventional air bombing that had ravaged other Japanese cities. Rumors abounded why this was so, from the fact that many Hiroshima residents had emigrated to the U.S. to the supposed presence of President Truman’s mother in the area. Many citizens, including schoolchildren, were recruited to prepare for future bombings by tearing down houses to create fire lanes, and it was at this task that many were laboring or preparing to labor on the morning of August 6. A radio broadcast announced the sighting of the Enola Gay soon after 0800.
The city of Hiroshima was annihilated by the explosion. 70,000 of 76,000 buildings were damaged or destroyed, and 48,000 of those were entirely razed.
Medical doctor Michihiko Hachiya: “Nothing remained except a few buildings of reinforced concrete… For acres and acres the city was like a desert except for scattered piles of brick and roof tile. I had to revise my meaning of the word destruction or choose some other word to describe what I saw. Devastation may be a better word, but really, I know of no word or words to describe the view.”
Writer Yoko Ota: “I reached a bridge and saw that the Hiroshima Castle had been completely leveled to the ground, and my heart shook like a great wave; the grief of stepping over the corpses of history pressed upon my heart.”

𝖒𝖎𝖉𝖓𝖎𝖌𝖍𝖙 𝖗𝖆𝖎𝖓 | solo flashback thread.
a look into when wyllas caron first knew he loved trystane allyrion. | takes place about fourteen years ago from present day.  ( @crvwnfought )
Tumblr media
“ do not return until you are ready to be our son, wyllas.”
eyes watch from a crack in the door, little fingers peeping out to reveal their hiding spot. the man pauses in his departure, glancing towards where he knew the other girl stood. words rest uneasy in his mouth, aware he should say something. he does not. swallows down any parting peace he may have given his sister, gaze returning forward as he departs their childhood home. lightning strikes him down.
two years later.
the dream startles the man awake, heart pounding against chest as if it was a drum. his eyes open to stare at the night sky above him, counting dotted stars till he is no longer fighting to breathe. wyllas would bet all he had that the constellations looked more beautiful in dorne than in nightsong. patterns that had no name to him before someone had taught him them.
the man rolls to his side, gaze seeking out the shape of his companion across the campfire. relief fills his body as he confirms that his night terror did not stir them awake, not yet ready to confess why he never spoke of his family. why there was a small bundle of unsent letters in his bag tightly wrapped with string.
with no one awake to catch him, wyllas allows himself to drift off back to sleep, comforted by the rise and fall of the man’s chest.
hours later.
“ an ocean is an ocean, trystane, i do not truly think it matters where it begins.”
the words draw out a laugh from the taller man that reminds wyllas of two swords clashing against each other, mesmerizing. he hangs embarrassingly onto every word trystane says, listening to the man explain the legend of starfall as they ride.
silence rests comfortably between them once trystane finishes speaking, smile on his lips. it is a struggle to not let his eyes linger on the other’s body, to not be caught staring at trystane. a piece of him whispers that the man already knows his thoughts. that the way he holds himself higher on his horse, shirt unbuttoned in the heat, is all a performance for the caron. much like how wyllas insisted nightly on building their fire, so that he may bask in the feel of trystane peering at him over his book. dark eyes warming his body far more than any flame ever could.
they talk each night till trystane begins to yawn, politely bidding each other a good night. wyllas has to bite his tongue from asking him to share the bed roll each time. not daring enough to cross the divide between them, to give credence to his own desire, to claim trystane as his own. he wonders if there is disappointment in the man’s eyes when wyllas simply smiles and retires to his side of the fire, or if the light makes him see things.
“ wyllas, do you see it? the summer sea.”
words break through his day dreaming, coming to to see that trystane has briefly claimed the lead, glancing over his shoulder at wyllas with a look that knocks any air out of his lungs. it is a dangerous look. he forces himself to focus on the horizon in front of them, the light reflecting off the sea somehow feels less blinding than trystane’s smile.
“ let’s race. “
wyllas does not wait for a response before he is pushing his horse to rush forward, passing trystane easily and heading straight for water in the distance. there is a sound of disgruntlement from behind him, but wyllas’ laugh drowns it out. the ride is not long enough to quell all the feelings that rest within him. soon enough he is dismounting inches away from the water, the sound of waves make the hooves behind him sound louder.
trystane joins him, breathing heavily from the exertion. the water brushes their toes teasingly, wyllas far too focused on the summer sea in front of him to care about his boots getting wet. storm’s end could never compete with the ocean that lay before them. nothing in nightsong could ever compete with the way trystane’s hand finds his, fingers intertwining.
“ i told you it was beautiful, did i not?”
their eyes meet, trystane smiles again, and wyllas is suddenly drowning on dry land. every feeling he has carefully pushed down during their trip is suffocating him now. they are clawing at his throat, begging for him to give them air. begging to bask in the sunlight that radiates from the man beside him.
“ yes. it is. “
wyllas had spent nights fearful of claiming trystane as his, naively not realizing that it was not him claiming ownership. at some point, the other man had crept into every inch of his heart till it began to beat only for him. the caron realizes in this moment that he could cross a thousand seas, withstand armies entirely alone, just to experience the way trystane looks at him again.
“ wyllas? “
“ you owe me a reward, trystane allyrion.”
“ do i?”
a smirk of his lips. gorgeous brown eyes challenging wyllas. there are no shadows to misinterupt the way he looks at the shorter man.
words are not a sufficient answer, feet stepping forward so that he may pull the man into a kiss. wyllas surrenders himself to every feeling he has been containing, letting them spill out and into the gentle way he holds the other.
the caron hands over a heart he had been protecting fiercely since the day he left nightsong, entrusting it to trystane allyrion.
