I greet Y/N as I walk into the make-up trailer, watching her cheeks turn pink as I give her one of my charming smiles, “I got you a coffee and some pastries.” I hand them over to her, and she looks down at her feet, hiding her cute smile. Placing my fingers under her chin and lifting her head, her eyes go wide, and I notice her trying to rub her thighs together subtly.
Gesturing to the treats I bought her, she slowly takes them out of my hands. “Thank you”, her soft voice reaches my ears, “your welcome, sweetheart.” I head over to my chair, sitting down and getting comfy. My legs spread open as I do this, causing the bulge in my jeans to become more visible. Watching Y/N through the mirror as I take a sip of my coffee, I notice she’s more skittish. As she walks over to me, her eyes meet mine through the mirror as she takes a sip of her coffee.
A small moan escapes her, causing me to hold back a groan. “This is good, thank you.” She ducks her head again as her cheeks turn a bright pink again. She reaches for the make-up that she set up for me. My eyes land on her ass, and they quickly close as I can feel myself become hard. She moves closer, holding some stuff in her hands, “I’m just going to prep your face, okay?” I nod, allowing her to continue. As Y/N places the primer on my face, my hand rests on her hip.
I feel her stutter a bit. Her skin feels so warm against my hand. “So, how has your day been?” I must’ve startled her because she jumped at the sound of my voice, “I-it was good, Mr Evans, how about yours?” I open my eyes and look at her, watching as she diverts her eyes every so often, cheeks pink. “Mines better now that I’ve seen you,” I give her a cheeky smile as her gaze snaps to mine. I notice she struggles a bit with reaching certain areas of my face. One thing I do love about her is how tiny she is compared to me.
“Here, sweetheart.” I guide her in between my legs, “better?” Y/N nods. My cheeks turn pink when I feel her warmth, and both hands rest on either side of her hips. “Hmm, actually”, I lift her and place her onto my lap, “this should work.” Her eyes widen at the move I made, and I give her a soft smile. “B-but… Mr Evans… this is inappropriate” The innocent look on her face is getting me so fucking hard, I just want to rip off her clothes and pound into her, but I can’t scare her off so early on.
“It’s okay, sweetheart. Call me Chris, and it’s not inappropriate, darling. I’m just helping you. Don’t you want my help?” I notice her eyes drift down to my open shirt. The outfit is for my character, Ari. Before she looks back up, going all shy again as she makes eye contact with me. “Y-yes, Chris… Thank you for helping me.” I smile, cock straining against my pants at her obedience and the feeling of her throbbing against me.
As she starts to continue my make-up, my hands squeeze her hips, subtly rubbing her against my bulge. My cock throbs as she lets out small moans, too sweet to say anything. “Sweetheart, do you mind if I unzip my jeans? They’re a bit too tight, and it’s uncomfortable.” Her eyes stare into mine, completely wide. I have to hold back from devouring her as I feel her throb against me. She slowly shakes her head. I smile, reaching down and unzipping my jeans. She doesn’t see me taking my cock out and laying it against my stomach before pulling her back up and onto me. She lets out a shy gasp as she feels my warm cock throbbing against her pussy. Staring up at her, I slowly move her hips against me, feeling my cock in between her pussy, nudging her clit through her knickers.
“Fuck, sweetheart. You don’t know what you do to me, I swear. You’re the reason I fuck up my lines so much, I come in every day- fuck- to see you, and you’re so sweet and so shy that you overlook my advances.” I slowly start to thrust against her, hitting her clit just right. “You going to let me inside, sweetheart? You going to be mine?” Y/N nods rapidly. Whines and huffs leave her mouth, placing her hands on my chest, tangling her fingers into the hairs.
I groan as she pulls, “fuck it,” I move her knickers to the side before sliding my cock through her entrance. Feeling the tightness of her walls hugging me, I rest my forehead against her chest. I take a deep breath as I feel my soul leave my body. I grip her hips and bounce Y/N, using her as my fleshlight.
I feel her nails dig into my skin, moans leaving her lips as I thrust up into her, walls tightening every time I hit her sweet spot. I reach down and rub her clit. “You’re such a good girl. You’re my good girl, aren’t you?” My voice is deep and raspy as I try to hold the beast inside of me back. “Yes, yes. So good, I’m you’re good girl- Imma good girl” My balls tighten as I hear her fucked out voice. I lean back and look at her face.
Her eyes crossed, mouth hung open slightly. I slowly slip a finger inside her cunt alongside my cock and watch Y/N cry out, and I slowly take it out while still making her bounce on top of me. Before placing my finger inside of her mouth, nearly cumming when she wraps her lips around it and sucks. Something snaps inside of me. I stand, holding her against me as I go to the make-up table. Sitting her on top of it, I hold her down and start to thrust hard and fast.
I place a hand over her mouth, stopping those pretty little noises from escaping. Pounding into her tiny cunt, watching how well she takes me. I feel my end approaching fast as she tightens around my cock, and her back arches, feeling her juices coat me as she reaches her end. I groan loudly, thrusting harder, deeper and faster, not stopping even when she tries to back away. I feel I’m about to burst. I lean over and devour her lips with my own. My cock twitches before I release my cum deep inside her.
“You did so good, sweetheart.”

ok first of all congrats on step 1 of your ship but second of all as someone who has never watched but wants to catch up with no time to watch seven seasons: best meta to read first? when exactly do both characters start appearing on the show? If it’s later than s1 I may be able to watch enough of it. But yea most importantly where to start with meta for the ship and has anyone done a primer for the ship I could read? No rush and sorry if this is too much work for you!
Hi Nonnie!
Thank you so much for the congrats! XD It's a delight to have been screaming, "Buck is bisexual!" since ep 107 and get to 704, and get it confirmed as canon. ^u^
Well, I guess the good news for you is that Eddie doesn't appear in s1, so if you're less interested in seeing the shown when it was only featuring Buck out of the ship, then go ahead and skip that. I do think it matters to see that season, to better understand Buck's journey, and also why Eddie was such an important and positive person in his life once they became friends (plus s1 is just 10 eps), but if you're more inclined to skipping, Eddie shows up in 201.
As for meta, I didn't sit down to write anything until the end of both s2 and the first half of s3, by which point I felt like I would explode if I didn't. So, that meta was more summarized than my weekly Buddie meta posts I started doing starting in the second part of s3. And you can probably just... skim through that first round of Buddie meta (it looks like it has a lot of parts, but some are quite short) and my other buddie meta posts (which you can find through my pinned post) to get a good idea of the Buddie r/s overall.
Honestly, the big moments that really cemented things, are the beginning of Buddie, in the first few eps of s2, ep 210 which gives us our first glimpse of Buck and Eddie being co-parents to Chris, 218 where you see how much they've come to mean to each other already, the start of s3, 309 and THE kitchen scene (don't ask, but it will be THE kitchen scene for you as well, once you've watched it), the end of s4 and the shooting storyline, s5's best Buddie moments were IMO in 504, 506, 513 and 514, s6 was a bit of a mess, but eps 610 to 612 or so are probably the vital ones. So if you're interested, you can check out the weekly meta posts for those specific eps.
I hope this helps, and that you enjoy Buddie a lot! xoxox

Zero-Sum Escape: A Close Reading of Code Veronica’s Steve Burnside
Introduction + Disclaimers
If you’re a friend/mutual/unfortunate witness to my discovery of Steve Burnside, you might’ve seen this coming. I’ve become an avid enjoyer of the character, which has led to some interesting discussions about him with friends! I’ve decided to write a small (edit: it was supposed to be small) piece on what makes him so interesting, using quotes and cutscenes from the original Code Veronica game. A lot of online discourse around Steve has historically been negative, so I hope this can be a positive primer for folks who want to learn more about him, or even an interesting curio for folks wondering why someone would do such an in-depth read for a one-off character.
This reading will focus strictly on Code Veronica (and not any of the Darkside Chronicles material) – with the full understanding that many aspects of the game are a product of their time, good and bad. I’ll try to cite my evidence as much as possible, but this will obviously be coming from a subjective and modern perspective as a fan of his character! I’m also a fairly new Resident Evil fan, so if anything’s incorrect, please forgive me and let me know! I’d be happy to make edits.
Anyway, this is all in good fun – and to anyone who even reads a single sentence of this, I appreciate your time!
Reference
As a way to “cite” dialogue and cutscenes, I’ll be including rough timestamps to this great video of Code Veronica cutscenes: https://youtu.be/ym46RPHqaSY?si=a6ItTpdOn3rCZq-U. Feel free to follow along, but the text should make sense without the video too.
So, who is this guy, anyway?
Let’s start with the basics. In the game Resident Evil – Code: Veronica (taking place shortly after RE:2), you start as Claire Redfield, recent prisoner of Rockfort Island. Unfortunately, Claire finds herself in the midst of another biohazard outbreak. And what’s worse is that during her escape, a stranger in a watchtower starts shooting at her indiscriminately! (0:05)
When the dust settles, Claire comes face to face with an abrasive teenager named Steve Burnside, a fellow prisoner on the island.
“Uh, sorry about that little misunderstanding…” (0:43)
This, alongside his attempts to be “smooth” – (I mean, who says “Relax beautiful…” unironically?) doesn’t do him any favors for most players. Not to mention his active derision of Claire’s skills – he leaves her with a few choice “tsks” and a “I don’t want you following me, lady. You’ll only slow me down.” (1:30).
This opening scene sets up a few key characteristics for Steve, which I’ll be referencing throughout this piece.
Steve is someone who makes numerous mistakes, ranging from purely accidental to sheer negligence.
Steve puts a heavy emphasis on reliability/dependability. He leaves Claire because he thinks she will “slow [him] down”. We’ll see more examples of his complex with “relying on others” later on.
Where do these traits leave us? A character that ends up being deeply paradoxical, and in my opinion, super fascinating because of it.
“You’ll just end up disappointed if you rely on others”
Claire finds Steve somewhat quickly afterwards, perusing information about her brother, Chris. I think it’s important to recognize Steve’s intent here. If he was purely focused on escaping (and leaving Claire behind), he wouldn’t have bothered looking for any records relating to her. Some folks may argue that he has a crush on Claire already, and is just following teenage impulses. But trust me, there’s more concrete evidence of teenage impulses later. For now, let’s give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he was trying to help her out – it ties well with point 2.
Steve’s snooping reveals that Chris is being monitored by Umbrella. Claire immediately takes action, contacting Leon about it. At this point, Steve sarcastically tells her,
“That file shows latitude and longitude of this place. Tch, why don’t you send your brother the coordinates and ask him to come help?” (2:20)
When Claire takes him completely seriously, he becomes prickly.
S: “Hey? I was just kidding? There’s no way he could get here, even if he is your brother.” C: “Yes he can; I’m sure of it.” S: “No way. He won’t come. You’ll just end up disappointed if you rely on others. Believe me, I know!”
Steve’s sudden anger and exit demonstrate how much this topic of “reliability” affects him. He’s vocal about his need for self-reliance – and yet, if we take his investigation in a positive light, it’s not like he’s completely selfish in his attempt to escape Rockfort.
Steve is someone who desperately wants to believe in human reliability, and yet has been spurned due to the circumstances of his imprisonment. We’ll see that he tries to emulate it himself, but unfortunately (and perhaps realistically) falls short.
Yet, what really nurtures this desire is Claire – someone who he can finally depend on. The pair’s next encounter comes when Steve is in trouble (if you’ve seen the “Steve is suffering” memes, it’s from this scene). The player hears him yell a pitiful “Help me!” as he bangs against a locked door – so much for relying on yourself.
If Claire solves the puzzle fast enough, Steve escapes and tells her, “That was too close. But I found something. Thanks to… you.” (3:44).
Thus begins the two’s shaky partnership – and believe me, it’s shaky. Steve runs off yet again, only agreeing to give Claire the essential golden lugers if she trades him something “fully automatic”. But Steve’s obviously on better terms with her now, as seen when he emphatically tells her, “See? This is why you need me. I got your back,” later (5:10). Quite cooperative for someone who was crowing about not relying on others.
In the midst of these scenes is a growing desire to look good to Claire – to be someone she can count on.
The knight fantasy – and bitter reality
Steve ends up describing his own motivation pretty well. Claire finds herself stuck with a nasty Bandersnatch, before Steve dramatically comes to her rescue (more on this in the next section). Afterwards, he eagerly proclaims the following:
S: “Oh yeah, that felt good! Don’t worry Claire, your knight in shining armor is here!” C: “You wish – but thanks for the help.” S: “See? This is why you need me. I got your back.” (4:54)
Steve wants Claire to see him as someone she can rely on – as a self-proclaimed knight to save her from the influx of zombies. It’s why he tells her to wait as he clears out the following area with his “new toy” (6:35). He wants to be the hero who saves the day – Claire might not be able to count on others, but she can sure count on him. He even states it outright afterwards:
“See? You can depend on me.” (6:58)
But maybe this is too blatant of a turn even for him, because he immediately backs off and instead mentions his guns instead:
“You see? This thing is a lot more reliable than any person.” (6:59)
Claire takes immediate suspicion of this, however, and starts to ask questions.
C: “Than people?” S: “…” C: “Steve, what were you doing here? Who brought you here, and where’s your family?” S: “Shut up – I don’t want to talk about it!” *shoots his gun at the wall* C: “Steve…” S: “Never mind. Let’s get going.” (7:04)
Note that he punctures this conversation with an angsty emptying of his gun magazine at the wall. This is no knight – this is volatile, teenage behavior. Claire can tell there’s something on his mind, but Steve doesn’t seem to be in the condition to explain anything.
Steve does the same thing four times – aka, analyzing entrances
As a brief interruption (but it ties into the rest, I promise), let’s take a chance to look at the different ways Steve barges into a cutscene. Humor aside, Steve’s physical actions vary across the four different times he comes to Claire’s “rescue”.
Bandersnatch (4:30)
The first rescue is all cliches and edge. Claire’s “knight in shining armor” breaks through a window dramatically. He shoots at the Bandersnatch without even directly aiming at him, walking forward as he shoots with his dual wielded lugers. It’s almost comical as he walks straight up to the Bandersnatch, delivering a kick and single killing shot for good measure.
It’s all impractical – Steve’s incessant wish to dual wield would hardly be effective in real life, let alone everything else here.  But this scene, cliche as it may be, reflects what Steve wants to be in front of Claire. He’s the action hero, the knight – the one who can be counted on to swoop in and save the day.
The Infamous Father Scene (8:13)
These heroics fail him once the two encounter his father. No longer is this a fantasy but bitter reality – and Steve can’t find it in him to shoot his infected dad. It’s only when Claire is in peril that he takes action – and this time, it’s impulsive and rough. He unloads all his ammo in a single, shaking shot, continuing to press the trigger even when it’s all gone.
It’s now that Steve tells Claire the full story – his father was caught trying to sell confidential Umbrella information, leaving his mother dead and the two of them locked up here. He morosely tells Claire, “He was a fool to do something so reckless! So stupid…” (10:15). We can see how much his father’s actions have impacted him – his desire for consistency comes from having his familial life ripped apart by the actions of someone he trusted dearly. And now, at the end of it, he is truly alone – the last one left in his family.
Alfred (11:07)
The next time we find Steve, we see a little bit of the Bandersnatch energy back in him – there’s the same aim, the same kick (to open the door) – but it’s less dramatic this time. There’s no slow-motion focus on shattered glass, no cocky final shot. In fact, this encounter leaves Steve visibly hurt – a crack in his armor. Steve’s still trying to be Claire’s dependable rescuer, and yet this encounter shows that he’s not the infallible knight he wishes to be. Far from it, considering the mistakes he'll make later on.
Alfred in Antarctica (21:30)
This cutscene skips forward a little, but it’s a nice final reminder that Steve does genuinely try his best to protect Claire, and succeeds! We see him take two stylish leaps and then shoot a quick few bullets to rescue her from Alfred. He’s still trying to emulate that knight image, but it’s more efficient than his Bandersnatch moment.
The Flight (and THAT SCENE)
After numerous troubles, Claire and Steve are finally able to escape the island. Needless to say, they’re elated and exhausted. Now that the coast is clear, Steve decides to get honest with Claire and apologize:
S: “Claire, I’m sorry. I know I caused a lot of trouble for you.” C: “No; it’s okay. It was hard for both of us.” S: “Well, I really hope you find your brother. I… I know what it’s like to be alone.” C: “Oh Steve…” S: *coughs awkwardly* “So, where should we go now? I can take you anywhere you want to go, Claire.” C: *laughs* “I hear Hawaii’s nice this time of year.” S: “You got it!” (14:20)
(On a personal note, isn’t this scene so cute? If only this was how it all ended…)
It’s here that Steve bares his heart to Claire. It’s clear that his mishaps and snarky remarks have been weighing on him too – he genuinely wants the best for her. When Claire is all too accepting and sympathetic, however, Steve begins to reveal his feelings (in… controversial ways).
After they find out that the plane is out of their control, the two of them take an uneasy rest. In the cutscene at 16:12, we find Claire leaning on Steve – a physical sign of how she relies on him. As if to follow his teenage impulses, Steve leans in for a kiss – only to startle as Claire begins to wake. His notion is thwarted immediately. Steve stands up,leans on the glass, slams the window and sighs. It shows signs of a “what was I thinking?” moment of clarity.
After all, kissing princesses in their sleep is something knights do in fairy tales. And Steve? Well, he’s no knight. He’s someone who’s almost hindered Claire’s escape as much as he’s helped, and he knows that. This thought is only exacerbated with his actions upon their arrival in Antarctica.
Antarctica, where more mistakes ensue
The plane decides to violently crashes into the side of the Umbrella Antarctica base. Steve kicks the door down and jumps first, reaching his arms out to catch Claire. She lands after, only to stumble and leave them both on the ground. Steve pulls her into a hug, which Claire doesn’t quite reciprocate. As she stands up, Steve lays back flat on the floor, sighing. It’s clear he’s jumped the gun, and it leaves him embarrassed. He doesn’t take Claire’s hand back up and tells her that they should split up to try and find a way out (18:55).
Steve’s love causes another mistake shortly after. The two of them try to break through the base wall with a digging vehicle, only for Steve to get distracted by Claire midway through. This causes a toxic gas pipe to burst – interestingly Steve tries to correct it through the controls – perhaps a reflection of his desires and fantasies for an “undo”. But in reality, he can’t undo his mistakes, and Claire is forced to grab him and leave the area.
This last mistake hits Steve particularly hard:
S: “It’s all my fault…” C: “Don’t say that. Listen to me – we’ll escape from here, together.” C: “Come on, we’ve got to shut off the gas. If we split up, we’ll have a better chance of stopping it.” S: *sighs* “…Okay.” C: “Steve. Don’t forget. We’ll get out of here. Together.” (20:45)
It’s not as if Steve is blind to his own faults – he knows that he’s been the one hindering their escape and takes it particularly hard. Claire has to reassure him multiple times that they’re working as a team to get out of here.
As a further blow to his ego, Steve is completely useless when the two exit the base and encounter Nosferatu, previous Alexander Ashford. Claire notices Nosferatu first, but Steve forces himself ahead of her soon after. He’s still clinging to the need to protect her.
However, Nosferatu easily knocks him off the platform, leaving him clinging to the side. Steve’s at his lowest here, and urges Claire to just leave him behind. If he can’t protect her, then what use is he?”
C: “Hold on, I’ll waste that monster and come back.” S: “Claire, forget about me. Run!” (23:50)
Claire’s resourcefulness and skill allow her to defeat Nosferatu and come back to Steve, still weakly hanging on. She pulls him back up, and Steve is left apologizing again for his rash behavior:
S: “I’m sorry. I failed you.” C: “Don’t worry about it. Let’s go.” *she leaves* S: “I swear I’ll protect you next time, Claire.” (25:15)
At this point, Steve’s all too aware of how his mistakes have left both of them in peril. It’s something that he deeply dislikes – as someone who wants to be dependable, he’s being a poor show of it. Claire’s been the one helping him out through most of this, both emotionally and physically. And so he makes himself a promise that next time, he’ll repay the favor.
It’s with this personal promise that the two climb aboard a snowmobile, hoping that they can make it to the Australia base. Unfortunately, this escape is a dead-end for them as well.
Sleep, weary knight
After Alexia awakens and destroys the snowmobile, Claire is rescued by Chris, who managed to find a way to Antarctica. She’s insistent that they must rescue Steve. She finds him cuffed to a chair in a long hallway, with an axe against his throat.
To Claire’s dismay, it seems she’s too late. Alexia has injected Steve with the t-Veronica virus. Steve’s last words before his transformation are a desperate plea for help. At this point, he’s actively asking for help from the one he loves, but fate has it that Claire is powerless. He begs Claire to save him, but she can only watch in despair as he morphs and chases after her.
In what seems to be a miracle of love, Steve manages to snap out of it just before he lands the killing blow. He instead slashes through Alexia’s entrapping vines, sparking her ire and a fatal blow to his chest. He dies in Claire’s arms, once again in human form, lamenting how he couldn’t protect her – how he couldn’t be her knight:
C: “Oh Steve…” S: *brings Claire’s hand to his cheek* “You’re… warm…” C: “Steve, you’ve got to hang in there, okay? My brother’s come to save us. We’re getting out of here!” S: “Your brother kept his promise. I’m sorry I cannot…” C: “What? What are you saying?” S: “I’m glad that I met you… I…. I love you… Claire…” C: “Steve? Steve?! Steve!” (34:15)
To players who dislike Steve, this may be a cheesy ending to a tedious character. And yet – we see Steve’s character arc complete fully in this final scene. No longer is he a volatile teenager, or a “cool” hero, or a self-perceived deadweight. He’s just Steve – utterly human Steve, who couldn’t keep his promise, and yet saved Claire in his own way. And it’s in these final, human, moments that he can confess his true feelings – only for everything – his façades, his love, everything – to all vanish.
The arm theory
As a somewhat lighter ending to this post, I’d like to discuss a little theory of mine.
People who have been following along with all the cutscenes might have noticed Steve’s right arm getting injured during the fight with Alfred. There’s no visual effect on his model, and Steve even claims, “I’m fine; it’s just a scratch” (11:30). And yet I’m convinced that it was quite a serious wound.
Note that he continues clinging to the platform in the Nosferatu battle with his left hand (24:40), not his right. Yet he keeps clutching his right arm in the cutscene after (25:44). And more importantly, Claire is the one driving the snowmobile during their escape attempt, after Steve had taken the wheel so many times prior (25:59). My theory is that the deterioration of his right arm is also why the arm is significantly skinnier upon his final transformation. If you look super closely at the bottom of the screen, you can actually see his right hand convulse as he mutates! Does this imply anything? Not really. But it would be cool to see this brought back somehow in a hypothetical remake, especially as Darkside Chronicles skipped these parts entirely. Kind of reminds me of another Resident Evil character who had arm injuries…
Anyway, if anyone made it this far, thank you! I hope this was a little insight into why I appreciate Steve so much as a character – and maybe in my wildest dreams, made you potentially enjoy him too.

Who do you see as the voice actors of your characters from The Fallen Star au? P.S. The question appeared after reading this post: https://www.tumblr.com/annymation/740501852095905792/the-voices-in-my-wish-rewrite?source=share
OOHHHHHHHHH thank you for asking!
Okay okay so I will be recasting most of the main characters. Like @annymation, Chris Pine is still Magnifico because he’s literally Magnifico, and I don’t really have a problem with any of the seven teens’ voices.
So here we go!
Tumblr media
Asha is voiced by Cynthia Ervo!
I really like Ariana’s voice, it’s very much what someone would associate with the 3D Disney princesses. However, TFS!Asha has a completely different personality than most Disney princesses, and I want her voice to match that. She has a very strong singing conviction, and it’s different voice representation! Plus, Cynthia has HUGE vocal range, it’s seriously amazing, and honestly fits exactly how TFS!Asha is
And as a bonus, Cynthia was in Disney before!
Tumblr media
Cielo is voiced by Anthony Ramos!
I first found out about Anthony because of Hamilton, and I’ve loved him in everything since. Literally every character he plays or voices is similar to Cielo! Particularly his roles in In the Heights and Bad Guys, he sings in both too!
Anthony is just so funny and goofy, and has SUCH STRONG flirtatious vibes EXACTLY how I imagine Cielo to be with Asha
^This is the song I’m imagining when I imagine domestic royalstar. I’m only attaching the song instead of the music video bc it’s a tad suggestive and also, Jasmine (his then girlfriend and fiancée featured in the video) broke up and that makes me sad
But!!! Musical experience, chill personality, Spanish, literally all Cielo.
Tumblr media
Magnus is voiced by Chris Pine!
DON’T COME AFTER ME OKAY HIS VOICE SOUNDS AMAZING IN THIS SONG
It won’t be used like this in my rewrite but CMON IS VOICE SOUNDS AMAZING AND IT FITS HIS CHARACTER IN THE FALLEN STAR
Seriously, Chris Pine really loved his role, you can tell. “This is the Thanks I Get” didn’t fit his voice in the honeyed way it’s perfect in, and I’ll forever be mad at Disney for that. Chris is good in slow, emotional songs, which is why his villain song in my rewrite will be perfect for him
Tumblr media
Amaya is voiced by Carolina Gaitán
So I’m still not really sure about this one. Amaya in TFS is Egyptian-Hispanic and I didn’t really know a lot of singers outside of Broadway tbh, but Carolina is such a great one! She voices Pepa in Encanto and it’s a shame we didn’t get to hear much of her singing voice (besides that small bit in “We Don’t Talk About Bruno”) because she’s such a great singer! I’m not 100% sure of her voice, but I do think it fits and that it will grow on me. I also haven’t had the chance to draw Amaya as much as I’d like to, so I feel like once I do I’ll be able to picture her more.
Tumblr media
Valentino is voiced by Ravi Cabot-Conyers
Now, Valentino doesn't have any significant singing roles in my AU, but he does still speak. And I love, love Alan and know he has done amazing things for Disney, so I want to find him a voice in The Fallen Star too, but Ravi also voiced this little cutie
Tumblr media
And yes, it's another Encanto voice, but Ravi was so adorable and amazing and it would be funny to have his dichotomy with the deep-voiced Asha

Roderick Strong Primer Part I: The Portion About Personal Connection
Part I (you are here) | Part II | Part III | Part IV
[So...I've been jokingly kicking around the idea of doing a series of meta posts on Roderick Strong for a while now. As usual with me, however, one late night conversation with @scissormedaddyass later it no longer stayed a joke.
This will be split into four parts: this one, where I talk about some of my personal experiences concerning his work (and PWG, because I can never get away from that promotion when talking about my faves ever); the second, which will dive into what I know of his history; the third, which will talk about his character arc - yes, even he has one - and finally a match guide, because by God he wrestles real good.
I'm not saying this'll be the most in-depth dive into his character and career in the world (for one I'm gonna miss a lot of early ROH and most NXT things), but until someone else makes one my little offering will have to do. If even just one person comes out of reading this understanding a little better the brainrot I occasionally have for him, then I think I did okay. Content itself under the cut!]
As I am sure absolutely no one who has talked to me about professional wrestling for longer than ten minutes knows, the promotion that made the greatest impact on me in my teen years was 2014 to 2016 Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (PWG). Beginning with night one of the 2014 Battle of Los Angeles that took place on August 29, 2014, I saw most of the shows they put out for a decent stretch, getting off the train after All Star Weekend 12's second night on March 5, 2016. It was there I saw the full potential of my first favorite wrestler, Chuck Taylor; there where I was first exposed to both talented up and comers like Speedball Mike Bailey and veterans like Chris Hero; there where I first saw the work of my favorite wrestler ever, Zack Sabre Jr.
In other words, for nearly two years it was my favorite promotion; as people well know, though, even as late as the mid-2010s it was not very easy to watch, and living half a world away with no credit card to pay for exorbitant shipping meant that to keep up to date I had to get extra creative. Knowing that I definitely wasn't going to be able to attend a live event, I followed what was happening as closely to real time as I could though social media posts, forum threads, and the occasional YouTube clips or official preview. As soon as news of the DVD releases dropped on the company's Twitter, I would Google search through pages of trash results for a couple of minutes every day until I found someone who'd uploaded the actual full event in glorious 240p and immediately watch it—more often than not, I knew, it would make my day.
I'm not saying PWG was perfect (God no). In fact, back then I don't know if, had I been more active in wrestling discussion circles, there would have been a safe space for someone like me. Still, spending all that time and effort to keep up and watch it was a really important time for me as a fan. It opened my eyes to how fun and creative pro wrestling could be, especially with the freedom independent status provided; sure, oftentimes it would be dizzying or even dangerous to give that kind of power to the wrestlers, and they lacked the multiple levels of safety and security that proper contracts provided, but there was just so much sheer entertainment I got from spots and shenanigans that would have never be cleared or work with the constraints of sponsors, copyright, or other corporate concerns. Making to suck your opponent's dick in the middle of the ring? An invisible remote that magically makes everyone, including the chanting fans, act in slow-mo? "The legendary asshole of Jushin Thunder Liger"? All hilarious, all fondly remembered. There's a reason that for years my top wrestling dream was to attend a show in Reseda—a dream that'll never be realized, but the Globe Theatre is a beautiful venue that seems to actually have working AC, so that's nice!
But, as mentioned: after Zack won the PWG title, a result I spoiled for myself via Reddit thread with much screaming, I stopped watching. It wasn't that I was any less interested in it—I was very much excited about the prospect of my boy on top, actually! It was simply that, between the sites I used all getting nuked and not knowing how to torrent, I just couldn't find it anymore. So I fell out of watching PWG, then the American and British indies, then NXT and what little main brand WWE I still watched, and finally I didn't watch much wrestling at all for two years, from 2016 to 2018. I only came back, actually, when I found out where my old fave Zack ended up: this large promotion called New Japan…
But that's a ZSJ story, and (as is hopefully clear from the title of this post) this series isn't about him. Instead, let's set the scene:
On July 29, 2016, two events and about four months after the last PWG I'd been able to watch, Roderick Strong had his last indie date before going to WWE. Having watched it back, the entire sendoff is pretty elaborate: after champion Zack fends off his latest challenger, Kyle O'Reilly, in a grueling 20+ minute match, Roddy comes down to the ring and demands his rematch. What follows is a less than six minutes breakneck fuckfest with several run-ins and foreign object usage; but, of course, Roderick loses. Afterwards, inviting his friends then that night's locker room down to the ring, he makes his speech about how in 2014 (which was, of course, the year I started watching) he'd made a commitment to reinvent himself as a wrestler—a move that ended up contributing to him being signed to NXT after a 15+ year career. He's thankful for everything PWG had given him, though (especially his then-fiance, now-wife Marina Shafir); as he says to cap things off, he loves the crowd, doesn't hate them!
Honestly, I wish I watched just two more events than I actually did back then, because it might have made my path to becoming a fan of Roderick Strong way more flattering to me. Instead, I have to admit: after Zack tapped him out for the belt and Roddy slunk off to the back, and for a long time during and after my two year break…I forgot about him.
It's a bit of an awful thing to say and is, on top of that, admittedly hyperbole; I never dumped anything of him in my brain down the memory hole. What I mean is that he never really came to mind unless I thought about it really hard. Even during my lull period, when people asked me about pro wrestling I could talk about my favorite people and my favorite moments and my favorite matches, and Roderick was never really there in anything more than a passing mention. In my defense, at first it was because I was even more of a massive hipster back then than I am now, and since I knew he was in NXT I assumed that when (not if; those were more innocent days) he'd go up to the main roster and get lots of fans he wouldn't need me vocally being one of them. Sure, he was probably going to be misused and I wasn't really going to watch to find out because this was 2016 WWE, but he'd at least get that money and that fame on Raw or Smackdown. Why wouldn't he? He was fucking Roderick Strong, a fantastic wrestler and someone I didn't realize for years people thought was bland as hell. Surely he'd make it. Surely.
But slowly and steadily he began to fade from my thoughts, until it came to the point that even after I started watching prowres again from 2018 and into the pandemic I didn't talk about him at all—even when I began looking back nostalgically on my time watching PWG.
Then, completely by chance, the week I decided to get back into All Elite Wrestling—I watched for a while in 2019, but lapsed during the pandemic era; it was hard enough to watch one major wrestling company with no crowds, much less two—was the week Roddy Strong debuted there. Buoyed by other people's excitement and name recognition, I felt generically happy watching the clips. "Oh, yeah," I said to myself. "Roderick Strong. What's he been doing for the past few years?"
(Yes, I completely missed his Undisputed Era period, and was shocked at the belated news that he and everyone else in that faction never officially made it to the main roster. Yes, this also means I mostly know what happened thanks to Drea fighting the good fight with all her Era boys fics. No, I don't think I'm gonna watch his NXT run any time soon, LOL.)
After therefore deciding not to really dive into his recent past, I decided to, for the umpteenth time, think about when I first became familiar with him in that era of PWG…and something funny came about. If you're familiar with the trope called "Once More With Clarity", then that's what honest to God happened: eyes wide and memories superimposed above a shot of the aforementioned eyes at around 50% opacity, I realized that so many of my favorite moments and matches had him there the entire time. Person ZSJ won the belt from? Roddy. One of ZSJ's best matches until that point? When Roddy beat him the first time Zack challenged for the title. Speedball's real coming out party with the Reseda faithful? Them answering Roddy's open challenge at Mystery Vortex. That (in)famous, ridiculously overbooked, ridiculously memorable Guerrilla Warfare match at All Star Weekend 11? The heel aggressors was Mt. Rushmore 2.0, Roddy's faction with the Young Bucks and Adam Cole. Even outside of PWG, I ended up finding out he was involved in several other promotions I followed; I saw him several times in EVOLVE for instance, and what little Ring of Honor I watched Mr. ROH himself was, of course, there as well.
I'm probably forgetting something, but here's what I'm trying to get at: the more I combed through my good memories of pro wrestling the more I realized Roddy'd not only always been there, but that he was a key player in them, not just in matches but in the angles as a whole—and, yes, even promos, his forever dump stat. At the time it was all going on, I just…never really noticed him. And that's the story of much of his career, isn't it (at least in kayfabe)? Always considered an excellent hand, but even when he held the big belt he never seemed or felt like the most important person there.
"Okay," I then said to myself those months ago. "So he's a great wrestler. He's in all these great things I like, wrestling-wise. But who is he, really? Is there enough for me or anyone else to chew on from a character perspective?"
The fact I'm dedicating a four part series to this man, along with all the GIFsets and fanfic I've made, might spoil my answer to that. But for now, brave reader who's actually read all of this (or clever reader who's skipped to the end), stay a little in suspense for a bit if you’d like while I write part two. :')

Hello! From what I gathered you are DarkAthena's meta account (i hope I'm not mistaken) and I just discovered your meta and I must say I really like it! At multiple occasions you mention symbolism and colour theory in teen wolf. I wondered if you would be willing to do a more complete summary of your understanding of it. I have a few idea of my own but I especially liked when you talked about mirror and Scott Mccall's messed up reflection of the self and I 100% agree with Stiles and transitional spaces (keys, door, etc).
Well all that to say I'd be really interested in your interpretation of Teenwolf's symbolism:)
this is a bit of a - symbolism is a huge chasm of a topic, and there are symbols we understand and ones that are clearly there but make no sense - like Chris Argent keeps showing up in scenes with frogs, ceramic frogs, frogs in a shadow box [in his office] and it's like, okay your association is frogs - but what does it mean, is it the way he flip flops on his opinions, is it a reference to the frog and the scorpion and how he is always going to be the victim ....
the thing with symbolism is you have three issues
people agree what the symbolism is and disagree what it means
people disagree what the symbolism is but agree with the final conclusion
people disagree there IS symbolism
now the color theory/symbolism primer is the result of LOTS of work that happened in the background, with people going look! and then it falling apart and worked over and ground into the dirt and still it's not definitive because it's an impossibility. Even if Davis et al sat down and laid it all out - people would still disagree with it
the primer
now most cinematic [and to an extent literary] symbolism is based on Freud, specifically Freud's dream dictionary [yes, really] and the problem is that most western writers know that symbolism, so they continue what they see etc - this is true of colour theory and was the WORST because teen wolf's colour references are reversed because the symbolic associations of godai [the five elements, each representing a season] are reversed
so if we take the basic Earth - it represents repression, claustrophia [I read the other ask, give me a moment] the keeping of secrets, the concept of compression. Like in ATLA the city that denies the war is Ba Sing Se - a city of earth benders with a huge earth wall. See how it works and that's normal. You bury things you don't want people to find so earth = hiding things, lying to keep a secret.
now in teen wolf Earth represents the opposite, the release, the revelation of secrets, rebirth, Derek's evolution is in the earth series [4] and look how much of that series takes place underground, in the vault, in la iglesia, the underpass at the school
mirrors = mirrors mean differnet things to different characters, traditionally a mirror is used to reassure that the self is correct or to tell an undeniable truth [Snow White, Nehelenia's mirrors] which applies to Stiles
they can mean a transition between places, or how those places are seen [Alice through the looking glass, or Candyman] that applies to Lydia
or they can show just how fractured a character is - the broken mirrors [a lot of slasher movies] = Scott
but add on to that the phantasmagoria sequences which were called mirror verse because often details were reversed = it's a very complicated theory that involves a lot of pointing that and that charlie day jpeg with strings and stress
Scott's symbol is shadow - which was a nightmare to work out btw, look how often he is show in shadow, he saw his beast self in a shadow etc - and when I pointed that out the wankstorm could have been seen from space = but all it means is that he has a dual nature - rather than derek who is one as a wolf and a man = werewolf, scott never reconciles
when you point them out they are super easy to go - oh yeah that makes sense, but other people might go - melissa has all those owls because she likes them,
all the way through 6a the meta pack were screaming about the yellow wallpaper and no one knew why until lydia pulled away the yellow wallpaper to reveal the door and we're like WE TOLD YOU because when you dig in and look critically you start to see patterns and those patterns go back to something famous, like how in canaan it was like event horizon- we knew EH was there, but couldn't prove it
and that's the ultimate truth
its not about what you think - but what you can prove
now if you wanna headcanon stiles as penelope from the odyssey [the fic i'm working on] you don't need proof, but if you wanna mess around with the guts of it [a good critical look is often like a dissection]
symbolism can be a nightmare, it can also be an easy step into deeper literary theory - which is what it is - we call it meta because we don't have to put it in the proper format and link a bibliography with books we pretended to read
symbolism is like - oh this appears a lot - does it mean anything
but sometimes the symbolism makes a clear point that just isn't there
derek is association with stairs - traditiionally stairs represent sex [think of old movies where characters would go upstairs, fade to black and it's obvious they had sex] up means accepting, down means rejecting, and derek doesn't even walk down stairs until season 3, he jumps - which prepresents an unwanted sexual attack
see that's solid
but Derek buried peter in the basement - gothic symbolism representing sex, specifically repressed desire [think fall of the house of usher] at the bottom of the stairs - which in symbolsim add them up and you get = Peter violently sexually abused Derek and Derek is hiding it
but there is no evidence of it whatsoever - so somewhere the symbolism as it is historically doesn't match, and it might just be that by burying peter he releases him [see the jennifer and nurse jennifer theory] from his madness and the set was too small for it to be anywhere but the bottom of the stairs
and yet people can argue that it's solid even though it's not explicitly supported, because Peter certainly encouraged the relationship with paige which ended so very badly....
symbolsim - it's a fancy word for your guess is as good as mine but at least now we've gotten past the point where the very mention of colour theory gives me eye twitches

To do list for the next few writing things!
Hey hey people, Chris here.
First of all, thanks to everyone again for your patience during my absence for the last 3 months. It feels nice to be writing again!
I'm going to go ahead and let you know what's on the docket for the summer schedule.
=====
1. House Isekai
FINALLY I'm going to be restarting this from the ground up. As promised (months ago) we'll be focusing on the shorts.
The prologue and Part 1 will be released first so you have context of who everyone is and why they're there, including a brand new primer and a story so far consisting of a condensing of the main characters included.
2. Askbox/imagines
Don't really need to explain this one. The main reason why most of y'all are here lol.
Will also update the masterlist/askbox once again soon so yay.
3. This World's Evil God Sucks, I'LL SHOW YOU HOW IT'S DONE!
I've still been chipping away at this during my absence, Chapters 3 and 4 should be out SOMETIME during the summer.
4. Getting rid of my building backlog for 40k
I only bring this up because dear lord, there's a lot of plastic to build and paint.
Tumblr media
Send help.
=====
It's time for me to actually get to work on both my minis and your asks, so see you when I see ya!

AO3 wrapped!
Respond to this with what you would call the top 5 fanfics you’ve read in 2022. Any genre! Any ship! (Bonus points: if you’re a creator, make this a 5+1 and include your favorite fic you wrote in 2022!)
Then leave this in your friends’ asks too. Let’s give creators one more spotlight before the year ends, and share some of what we’ve enjoyed along the way!
Sure thing anon! Okay, so, with the caveat that these are fic I read and bookmarked this year, they haven't actually been written this year... also, I have a ton of fic I've read and loved--way more than 5--so you can always go into my bookmarks on ao3 and read what I've got in there, it would thrill me to know other people are reading the same fic I adored, lol... here are 5 fics I read: 1. Getting There by @mswhich (teen wolf, chris/derek)-Oh boy, this fic made my chest hurt in the best possible way. A meditation on grief after Allison dies where Chris is on a steep downward spiral and Derek takes care of him. It's so much more than that, but I don't want to ruin it. There's something so easy about the two of them in this fic, and it's a ship I'd never really considered before but this fic makes it work so beautifully that I'm sold. 2. The Standing Dead by standinginanicedress (teen wolf, sterek famous au)- techinically a duology, I know I'm late to the party on this writer, but I read all 244k of this series in one huge gulp. I couldn't put it down. I love angst and I love it unrelenting for 3/4th of the fic and that's what this is. The second one especially has some beautiful passages about the addiction recovery process that still haunt me to this day. I appreciate especially it wasn't afraid to show that recovery isn't a straight line, and in telling the story, showing their flaws and all, the writer made these characters *so* vivid and real. 3. a traditional courtship by helenish (x-man, charles/eric) Okay, so I REALLY don't go here. X-men isn't one of my fandoms but I was recced this fic because while abo isn't always my jam, I love it when writers play with societal elements in an abo universe and man oh man does THIS one do that. Eric is an alpha "passing" as omega, and it's just a really beautiful, 12k metaphor on identity and how people want to be perceieved by strangers and the ones they love. 4. A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood by gremble aka @abeautifulblog (Dream Daddy, dadsona/Robert Small) Okay so I really really REALLY don't go here. I don't play video games of any kind at all, I never have, but I fell into this beheamoth 112k fic and it absolutely lit my brain on fire. The writer offers a primer if you, like me, don't know a thing about this game that is super helpful. This fic has a fully fleshed out, realized world full of interesting, perfectly imperfect characters that were so much fun to follow. 5.the guard place by thirtysixhudson (gen, Good Place/ Old Guard crossover) It's the 528 words you never knew you needed until it's right in front of you. I fucking LOVE The Good Place and this mini fic made me laugh so hard. Jason Mendoza at his finest. +1 should i stay or should i go? by darkisrising (me!) (Stranger Things au, gen) This might be the first story I've ever written that made me laugh while I was writing it. These characters are all such clowns and such a joy to play with. Even though the fic didn't get a lot of traction I stand by it, dammit, lol. The premise: instead of chasing the otherworldly, the Stranger Things kids start a garage band. Steve is roped into being their ride to gigs.

Lest is the Acting Prince of the town of Selphia, as well as a farmer.
He is known to be kind and courageous, not willing to back down if it meant protecting his loved ones. However, that kindness has been known to be tested on many occasions and even his patience can wear thin.
Lest's relation to Fodlan came from Byleth and his students when they came into Selphia by unknown means. They lived in harmony for a year before finding the means to send them home. Lest and good number of citizens from Selphia also visited Garreg Mach for a limited time.
They were not present for the Five Year War.
Lest was closest with: Byleth, Dimitri, Claude, Edelgard, Hubert, Dedue, and Hilda.
Forte (Origin: Rune Factory 4)

She is a fairly serious person, but known to have some childish traits such as being afraid of ghosts and loving sweets. Her combat ability is right behind Lest's.
Forte was very close with the more combat oriented students from Garreg Mach as she trained with them on countless days.
Forte was closest with: Ingrid, Felix, Ashe, Raphael, and Ignatz.

Sarge (Origin: Red vs Blue)
Tumblr media
Super Colonel Sarge is the aggressive and illogical leader of Red Team.
A military man with a southern accent, he is often the one to drive people around him up the wall, especially if they are actually part of a military, as his actions and strategies appear utterly deranged.
The Reds and Blues were transported to Fodlan and fought in the Five Year War with Byleth. They managed to unite the countries due to none of them being prepared on how to fight idiots. Sarge in particular led many daring missions that somehow ended up working.
Sarge was closest with: Claude, Ferdinand, Caspar, Balthus, and Petra.
Lavernius Tucker (Origin: Red vs Blue)
Tumblr media
Captain Tucker is the current leader of Blue Team.
Smart-aleck, sarcastic, rude, prone to juvenile humor, and obsessed with women, Tucker is quick to make people dislike him upon first meeting. Though when the situation becomes serious, he is the first one to step up to fight, Energy Sword in hand.
The Reds and Blues already having been part of a civil war in their world, Tucker was the one to take charge alongside the Freelancers, Washington and Carolina.
Tucker was closest with: Sylvain, Yuri, Mercedes, Dorothea, Annette, Catherine, Ashe, Alois, and Byleth.
Dexter Grif (Origin: Red vs Blue)
Tumblr media
Private Grif is part of Red Team.
Grif is the cynical loud-mouth of the Reds, being self-centered, immature, stupid, acerbic, and lazy. He is quick to make silly theories or insults, even toward people who could clearly kill him without hesitation. Grif is also cowardly, easily scared and would rather run away from a battle than deal with it. He also shares a complex friendship with Simmons.
He absolutely despised being in Fodlan, complaining that they were a bunch of savages for not even having things like refrigeration or modern bathrooms. Despite that, he fought tooth and nail with the rest of the Reds and Blues to protect it.
Grif was closest with: Bernadetta, Marianne, Raphael, Hapi, and Hilda.
Dick Simmons (Origin: Red vs Blue)
Tumblr media
Captain Richard "Dick" Simmons is part of Red Team.
Simmons is portrayed as a stereotypical nerd as he enjoys working, thinks logically, and tells jokes that only he seems to find amusing. Simmons is also a very considerate person, as he has been shown to be very compassionate and kind to other characters.
Simmons enjoyed being in Fodlan as he got to actually learn some magic from some of the students there, stating it was like a dream come true. Simmons ended up leading the Black Eagles Strike Force on more than one occasion during the Five Year War.
Simmons was closest to: Ignatz, Linhardt, Lorenz, Ferdinand, Constance, Annette, and Lysithea.

so @praalgraf asked this in response to my post about editorial decisions Chris made that I personally disagree with, and I promise it’s not an annoying question! It’s just impossible to quickly answer, sadly
The History of Middle-Earth is not exactly an easy series of texts to get through, because it cycles between “chunks of text by JRR Tolkien” and “commentary by Christopher Tolkien, which is often (in my opinion) Not Great and draws scholarly conclusions that I disagree with but has footnotes with further quotes from still-unpublished things his father wrote”. It’s organized roughly by chronological order, beginning with Tolkien’s earliest writings and ending with what he was working on just before his death. It’s not just the Silmarillion - there are also several books that preserve drafts of The Lord of the Rings, in the middle of the twelve volume set. And they’re dense, and often contradictory, and require a lot of dedicated study to really get through and understand. I’ve been doing this for ten years and I finally feel like I Get It but there’s so much more I could be learning that I can’t wait to discover. And we’ve got the new book coming out this year, The Nature of Middle-Earth, edited by somebody who isn’t Chris - that’s going to be so much fun, holy shit.
I can’t give a comprehensive list of where everything is that I cited in that post specifically off the top of my head, but what I can do (and will do right now) is share my recommendations for anybody interested in further delving into the magical world of the Histories. This is a combination of content and worldbuilding, things that I think are relevant as a basic groundwork for understanding the texts better and learning where a majority of popular fanon comes from. You don’t have to read further than this unless you want to - you don’t have to read any of this unless you want to, obviously - but consider these a nice primer if you’re curious what the wider Tolkien canon looks like. They cover linguistic essays, sociological examinations, annals and timelines, and character development. My recommendation is to read them in order as listed below, and stop at any point if you feel like you’re bored out of your skull. It starts with “most relevance to The Lord of the Rings” and goes from there. Also, these are just my recommendations - other people might have different things to say, and this is a question you’ll get five answers for if you ask five different people. I’m also assuming that you just want to See More - if you want to read the commentary, for example, do it, but I know it’s dull and boring and not really Important in a lot of cases. I don’t have an authority on what constitutes The Definitive HoME Reading List, but I hope this is helpful!
