Catholicism and Lent

A seemingly random topic, perhaps, but as previously stated, my interests are diverse. Recently, I've developed a significant interest in Christian history. While raised within the Protestant tradition, and still aligned with those beliefs, I've become increasingly intrigued by other Christian denominations. The Catholic faith, in particular, has captured my attention. Despite doctrinal differences, such as my perspective on the papacy, I find the cultural richness and historical depth of Catholicism profoundly compelling. Let's explore some of the areas I've been researching.
The Beginning of the Catholic Church
The Catholic Church's history is a fascinating, and often debated, topic. While early Christian communities existed in Rome during the first century, the term 'Catholic' emerged in the second. What really piqued my interest is the idea that Jesus himself founded the Catholic Church. Catholics often cite Matthew 16:18, where Jesus says to Peter, 'And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church.' Now, to my Protestant ears, that doesn't necessarily scream 'Peter, you're in charge!' But Catholics believe this moment designated Peter as the Church's first leader. They consider Peter the first Bishop of Rome, and thus, the first Pope. From there, the papacy continued through a line of successors.
I find this piece of history interesting, and although I don't necessarily agree with them on everything, I still find Catholicism very important to Christian culture, and that brings me to my next topic regarding Catholics.
Lent
Ash Wednesday and Lent have become my latest deep dive. It's funny, actually. My mom and I started participating in this Catholic tradition back in 2019, and initially, it was…well, let's just say our motives weren't exactly spiritual. We were looking for a diet hack, a way to justify cutting out certain foods. 'It's for God!' we'd say, to keep ourselves motivated. But something shifted over time. I found myself increasingly drawn to the deeper meaning of Lent. The idea of sacrificing something for Jesus, who made the ultimate sacrifice for us, is truly beautiful. And though I've been observing Lent for years, it's only now that I truly understand its significance. This year, I have a newfound, profound appreciation for this season.
Here is a brief history of Lent for those who aren't aware:
Lent, the 40-day period of reflection and preparation leading up to Easter, has roots that stretch back to the early days of Christianity. While the observance of a specific 40-day period solidified over time, the concept of a preparatory season existed from the very beginning.
Early Christians observed a period of fasting and prayer before Easter, primarily as a time for catechumens (those preparing for baptism) to prepare spiritually. By the fourth century, the 40-day period became more standardized, mirroring the 40 days Jesus spent fasting in the desert as recounted in the Gospels.
Initially, the length and practices of Lent varied across different regions. However, by the Middle Ages, the practices we recognize today—fasting, prayer, and almsgiving—became more widely established. Ash Wednesday, marking the beginning of Lent, became more prominent as a symbolic gesture of humility and repentance.
The 40 days, excluding Sundays (which are considered mini-Easters), represent a time for believers to turn inward, examine their lives, and strengthen their relationship with God. It’s a season of spiritual discipline, a time to reflect on the sacrifice of Jesus and prepare for the joy of his resurrection on Easter Sunday.
Anyway,
In my effort to participate in Lent with greater authenticity, I've conducted extensive research. I've explored resources such as the Hallow app, which I've found particularly beneficial, and have also sought insights from various video presentations. Notably, an interview between Tucker Carlson and Jonathan Roumie, the actor portraying Jesus in 'The Chosen,' provided a transformative perspective on the purpose and significance of Lent. This interview illuminated the importance of fasting, the diverse methods of fasting, and the rationale behind the annual observance of Lent leading up to Easter.
youtube
In Conclusion
Alright, so there you have it – my deep dive into Lent and Catholic history. I know this isn't everyone's cup of tea, and that's totally cool! As you know, this blog is now my hyper-fixation playground, and this time around, it was all about Christianity. I'm thinking I'll probably do a few more posts about Christian history, from my perspective, of course. But don't worry, this isn't becoming a religious blog! I'm super excited to see where this blog takes me and what other random rabbit holes I'll drag you all down. Who knows what's next? Only my ever-wandering brain knows. Anyway…
Love ya, Haybales <3

DEVIL BY THE WINDOW.

incubus!yeonjun x black!afab!reader
“i met the devil by the window, traded my life. temptation touched my tongue, spread the wings of desire.”
warnings: talks of religious beliefs/trauma, suggestive but there’s only dirty talk, kinda sorta angst? talks of the unknown/paranormal, whatever just enjoy
a/n: hello! this will be a 6 part series with ot5, the first one will be yeonjun since he is the oldest. i’m going down by ages so soobin will be next. hope you enjoy! pt. 2 here
you grew up in a very religious way, basically the epitome of a black christian household. your mother would hold bible studies at your house with all of her church friends, and your father was a preacher. your older brother had gotten baptized when you were 15, and he kept spitting religious facts and truths to you every second he could.
the fact was, you didn’t really believe in god as your parents thought you did. you had a bible, you had a bible app on your phone that would give you verses for the day, but it’s not like you ever read them. your bible dusted on the top of your dresser, collecting lint from every other book you had. you were a christian yes, but you were also not one.
you didn’t believe in ghosts, paranormal activity or anything of that sort. your parents always said that your childhood home was haunted, and it was the angels watching over the family that made the spirits not bother either of them. you just rolled your eyes at their bullshit, they would always say that.
however, you did always have that weird feeling that something was watching you, something you couldn’t put your finger on. it followed you everywhere, made you develop paranoia and forced you to always be cautious with everything you did.
you weren’t all that far off, either.
“why do you keep watching her, yeonjun?” soobin asked his fellow incubus, yeonjun staring through his fancy little glass that showed you on your phone at the subway station, headphones on and blasting music to help drown out the noise and the feeling of someone watching you. yeonjun just stared at your form, leaning on his hand and looking like a lovesick teenager.
“i don’t know soobin, but something about her just… makes me feel like i need to claim her. she looks so innocent and small, i need to take her.” he spoke, his voice getting darker with more syllables he spits out. soobin was a little taken aback by this, but he just chuckled and leaned back, staring at the ceiling of their little demon house. “i get that feeling yeonjun-ah, but you do understand that there are regulations to us having contact with humans?” he asked the older, making the man turn his head to him and snap his fingers, shattering the glass mirror.
“i know, i’m not that stupid. but you know, we are demons right? so there’s nothing wrong with bending the rules a little, huh?” he smirked, making soobin sigh into his hands and look up at the blonde. “don’t say that i didn’t warn you when mr. satan is on your ass about you having relations with this girl,” he exasperated, but the smaller was already gone and off somewhere.
*ੈ✩‧₊˚ ⎯⎯ ୨ ୧ ⎯⎯ ੈ✩‧₊˚
it was nighttime, and you were doing your daily skin routine. you were applying all that you needed to all over your face to make it nice and shiny for the morning, and to help you sleep. you felt so much better now that you were in the comfort of your own apartment, grabbing your phone and laying down in your bed going through media. that’s when you heard it—three raps at the window. you quickly looked at your bedside window, and there was nothing there.
you got up and walked over to it, looking out of it without opening it. you were so scared, but you had to stay strong and tell yourself that you were just hearing things. until you came face to face with a demonic man staring right back at you through your window.
you screamed, grabbing the nearest object and chucking it at your window, breaking it and hitting the man in the face. he groaned and broke through the window, standing in your room while you cowered on your bed. you started to actually pray, trying to make the demon get out any way you could.
after a few minutes of praying and crying, you looked up and saw that it was still there, and just laughing at you. “god you humans are jumpy! prayers only work for ghosts and actual traditional demons, not me sweets.” he smiled, stepping one inch closer while you leaped three feet back. your back hit the wall and you slid down the wall, holding yourself and trying to calm yourself down.
that’s when yeonjun appeared in front of you and leaned down, grabbing your chin and staring at your form. your eyes were red and puffy, your big lips in a quiver as you stared back at him. he was pretty… really really handsome. you were surprised at this revelation, because you were always taught that demons were ugly and disgusting creatures who were the definition of evil. but this one was so handsome… and he looked kind, however that made just to deceive you and not actually be a kind demon.
“will you calm down now?” yeonjun inquired, giving you a small smile and a soft chuckle. your breathing had slowed down but not that much. you were still panicked that you had just witnessed a demon in your room, but he did ease you somewhat. at least he wasn’t trying to steal your soul or something. he just stared at you, hand still under your chin which you could barely notice since you were just trying to study his features.
he had soft pink skin with a rosy complexion, big pink lips and cat eyes. he had big eyebrows which oddly fit perfectly on his sculpted face with long pointy horns that were almost 5 feet in length. they were huge, but it only intrigued you more. his hands were big and veiny, and they were heavy. it made you realize that this man was a real demon, not just one from a fairytale or something. he was a real demon, and you had to take a few minutes to realize that.
however, the flapping of his large wings snapped you back into reality, making you lean back in fear. you hadn’t heard his question, so all you did was stare at him as your breath picked up again. he sighed, pressing a hand on your chest and it easily calmed your nerves, automatically making you more eased and relaxed. he chuckled, getting up and putting a hand on his hip.
“that’s much better, now… how about i introduce myself?” you nodded, getting up from the ground and sitting on the bed while he stood right in front of you. “my name is choi yeonjun, and i am a demon. that much you could probably see, but i’m not just any demon. i am an incubus, which means i feed off the sexual desire of my vic—humans. normally i feed from dreams, but i can also feed from the pure arousal of my subject. now how about you?” he asked, making you snap back into reality since you sorta zoned out on his face while he was talking.
“oh uhm—my n-name is y/n, and i’m a college student about to graduate. i’m 22 and have a job as a banking accountant, and uhm… i’m human? yeah?” you weren’t as scared anymore, but still on edge since he was just staring deep into your soul. it felt like he was feeding off you just from his eyes, which made you even more scared, you didn’t know what to do. you just kept your breathing steady, which he obviously noticed. “well, lovely introduction, i bet we could get along greatly,” he joked, smiling at your somewhat trembling form.
god, he couldn’t get enough of you. you were pretty and you looked so innocent, he wanted to just ruin you. turn you into his little toy to mess with, play with like a ragdoll and morph into what he wanted you to be. and he could, but he needed to ease you into it first. so, he leaned back against the wall, crossing his arms and staring down at you.
“you’re probably wondering how i got here, and how you’re able to see me aren’t you?” he asked, to which you nodded. “well, us demons have this special little thing where we can either let humans see us, or have them see us in their dreams but never in real life. i’ve chosen to see you since i want to get a raw reaction from you instead of in your dreams, but that’s just me. not every incubus does it my way, but they’re all old farts so it doesn’t really matter,” he chuckled softly, still staring down at you. you couldn’t really comprehend what the hell you were seeing, but seeing him looking somewhat human had your nerves calmed.
although, his explanation made you a bit confused. “how can y’all just… pick and choose who gets to see you or not?” your tone was obviously filled with confusion, but he just laughed some more. “i don’t know, demons are just weird like that i guess,” he smiled, making you softly giggle. he snapped his fingers and pointed at you, smiling while he did so. “i made you laugh! point one for yeonjun.” he smiled proudly, making you giggle again. “don’t get on your high horse about it, it was just a small laugh.” you smiled, making him cross his arms and pout.
“any laugh counts in my book, so!” he exclaimed, making you slightly punch his shoulder. then you realize—he’s hot to the touch. not hot like he had been under a blanket, hot as in he had just soaked in the sun for about 3 years. he felt like he was constantly on fire, and it scared you yet intrigued you. he was filled with mysteries, and you felt like sherlock (insert shinee joke here). however, there was one lingering question on your mind—if he was an incubus… why did he come to you specifically?
“i still have one question though…” you mumbled, his head perking up and his tail swung behind him. “what is it?” he asked. “if you’re an incubus, then why did you come to me specifically? and what are you going to do to me?” your voice had hints of fear sprinkled in it, and he could tell—you thought he was going to suck your life force out of you while you were awake. he just burst out laughing, holding his stomach while wiping his eyes. “oh wow, wow! you think i’m gonna suck your life force away? that’s the funniest thing i’ve heard in my 100+ years of living!” he chortled, making you pout.
“but isn’t that what incubi do? sucubi and incubi suck the life force out of people through their arousal—“ “traditional sucubi and incubi do that, not me hun,” he said, looking down at you with condescending eyes. “what i want to do with you is claim you. make you mine. make you scream in pleasure as i pound deep into your womb with everything i have. i want to hear you, and make sure nobody else can have you unlike me. that’s all i want.” his voice got lower and raspier, crawling towards you and sitting on his knees on the bed. you could feel your legs clench with his words, already sort of feeling the arousal begin.
“and yeah, maybe we feed off of the desire of our hosts but that doesn’t mean we always take their life force out of them. sometimes we do, sometimes we don’t. sometimes we have a sort of nifty little thing that makes our human addicted to us more than ever, that no other human could satisfy them. sometimes we can take the life force away and turn them into a demon like us. it all depends on how we feel.” he rambled on, but you were drowning out his voice. that was until he grabbed your chin and forced you to stare at him, red eyes boring down on you.
“while i would like to make you a succubus so we could be together in hell, i would also like seeing you be unsatisfied with any man that tries to fuck you, to see you struggle to cum by yourself and to have me come by your window and make sure your neighbors file 6 noise complaints by the time we’re done. wouldn’t you like that, y/n-ah?” he purred deep into your ear, making you gulp and rub your legs together more. you whimpered slightly, feeling your body grow hot but that only made him smile. “so, it’s a deal? great!” he exclaimed, smiling brightly as he pulled away from you, getting up from the bed and going back to the window.
“see you again at the same time tomorrow, y/n-ah?” he asked, slowly climbing out the window and you nodded, still speechless by what you just had been a part of. he giggled and waved, flapping his wings then disappearing into thin air. you could feel how soaked you were through your underwear and you sighed, really trying to figure out what the hell just happened to you.
ੈ✩‧₊˚ ⎯⎯ ୨ ୧ ⎯⎯ ੈ✩‧₊˚
back at hell yeonjun happily flied into the house he shared with his pals, beomgyu greeting him this time. he raised his head up from his phone when he saw the smiley man come into the room, closing it and setting it down. “so? how’d it go?” he asked, yeonjun flopping onto their magic couch with a lovesick sigh. “i think it went pretty well. she was even feeling arousal before i did anything! so i say i’ve won her over,” he happily chirped, making beomgyu chuckle. “you really have a thing for humans don’t you yeonjun-hyung?” he smiled, yeonjun hitting him playfully and giggling. “not all humans, just her!” he bashed, letting soobin know it was his time to come into the room.
“you know everyone was watching you two right? even hyuka, and you know how he is about things like this, being a new incubus and all,” and that had yeonjun shocked, putting a dramatic hand over his chest and gasping. “really? guess my y/n did a pretty good job,” he proudly bellowed, making soobin roll his eyes and drink his hot coffee. “she is pretty yeonjun, but you do understand that if you put her under a spell that makes her unable to cum without the help of a demon, any demon that isn’t you can help her right?” he told the oldest, making yeonjun’s whole world come crashing down.
“hehe, funny story… i kinda did that before i left, and she didn’t notice…” he scratched the back of his neck, making soobin and beomgyu sigh. “well, you know your time on earth has started over right? so you have 5 days until you can go back, right?” he told him, yeonjun’s heart feeling a slight twinge. “so… i can’t please her until my time’s up?” he asked, soobin nodding. “don’t mean to say i told you so but… i told you so.” he giggled slyly, making the blonde boy growl.
“well then how is she supposed to get off? i can’t help her…” he mumbled, beomgyu holding his older friend in his arms. “how about this… everyone in our group can go and help her for each day you have to stay, and on the day you can come back, you can help her and—if you want—we can join you?” beomgyu suggested, making yeonjun’s bright eyes light up with joy. “you guys would really do that for me?” he asked, the two boys nodding. “i’ll convince hyuka to as well, and be there for emotional support whenever he goes!” terry called out from his room, hearing hyuka’s confused noise from his room. yeonjun just laughed some more, his smile brighter than ever.
“thanks guys, don’t know what i would do without you all,” he sighed, soobin ruffling his hair and beomgyu hugging him tighter. “it’s nothing yeonjun-ah, just what friends do right?” soobin spoke, making the fellow demon nod his head. “mhm, thanks you guys.”

"Ironically, I think whites as a racial culture are defined by the lack of ethnic nepotism. I don’t think it ever happened in the US that a Scots-descended businessman would want to keep the business entirely Scots and deny jobs to Swedes. And everybody and their dog seems to be 1/4 German and 1/4 Irish and 1/16 Chocktaw… Now, as a comparison, I was writing to a girl in some dating app and I said “You look kinda East Asian” and she replied “Kinda East Asian?! 100% pure blooded Han!” LOL. This is the level of racial-ethnic consciousness (and nepotism) that is normal in most of the world. In fact, that is why whites have a problem with Jews, they are not used to ethnic nepotism. Most people on the planet would find it entirely normal because they are doing the same thing. Ethnic nepotism is deep down extended family nepotism. They are not simply hiring co-ethnics, if they can, they will hire fourth cousins. This boils down that in a low-trust society you can only trust relatives. Whites have invented the nuclear family, without deep extended family ties, individualism, and a high-trust society where trusting strangers is normal. The disappearance of ethno-racial consciousness and nepotism was simply downstream from this. Universalism, the idea of universal human rights and suchlike is a super white idea, originally IMHO developed in Paris, and clearly the flip side of individualism. Is it a Christianity-rooted idea? Perhaps, but there are many Christians from Greeks to Armenians and Georgians who are not interested in it. The good news is that every time desegregation is not enforced, people spontaneously segregate. The 1960’s civil rights idea that blacks want to see white faces in their neighborhoods, schools and churches was basically a lie. They want the money, yes, and if the only way to get the money is to tolerate white faces, they will, but they are not that super happy about it. Here in Europe our elites are basically bribing the Muslims to stay here, because they actually don’t like to live in places with miniskirts, public drinking and the smell of roasting pork. The white identity had arisen due to the age of sail, discovery, colonialism, and slavery, as an opposite of the brown natives. Scots and Swedes found they have more in common with each other than with the natives. People who did most of this sailing, were mostly of a Northwestern European background, and this is how whiteness contains some cultural, not only biological aspects, such as Protestantism, that is, a certain culture of practical-minded “dryness”, more engineers than artists compared to Catholic Europe. Here in Central Euro we tend to have national identities, not a white identity, because we did not sail much and thus everybody we met was mostly white, even the Ottoman elites tended to be much whitened by intermixing, slavery and renegades. So race is not an easy concept for me either. Especially if I look at my steppe nomad side of ancestors."

SPICE & WOLF MONTH!!!
IMPORTANT NOTE: This is a review of the Anime series only and does not reflect the thoughts of the original novels. They are two different entities and I will be treating them as such.
Part 1 (Episodes 1-7)
The Story
The story is about a young merchant who teams up with a wolf-girl who promises to help him get his dream shop if he takes her back to her homeland in the north.
The story is not an action series like most fantasy anime, but focuses on money and how if affects their world.
Some people may get confused with the economic talk, but the anime explains how it works well. But you have to concentrate on this series all the way through to keep up, even though it doesn't look like anything but talking going on in this series, listen carefully to what they are saying and you will be able to follow the storyline.
The Characters
The two main characters, Holo and Lawrence, work off each other perfectly, and they are both interesting characters in their own right. But they are the only interesting characters in this series (so far), and the rest of the characters get very little screen time or are not very interesting.
The Animation/Special Effects
The animation isn't very impressive. The characters just mainly sit down and don't move. When they walk, they sometimes seem a little stiff.
The animation even recycles a couple of clips in this first part, and you do notice them, even if you aren't looking for them.
The sound effects are all stock. The wolf howls, footsteps, doors closing, every sound effects you can here are reused and can be found free on any free moviemaker app!
The Dub
The dub is one of the best I have heard from Funimation! All the roles fit the characters perfectly and you know that the voice actors had a lot of fun dubbing this series!
Final Thoughts
Overall, this first part may not be the best out there, but it is still very enjoyable! Let's hope that the second part follows this part's example!
The Story 4.5/5 The Characters 3/5 The Animation/Special Effects 2/5 The Dub 5/5
Overall 3.5/5
Part 2 (Episodes 8-13)
The Story
The second half is about Lawrence coping with bankruptcy after the armour he bought loses its value.
The second half is DEFINITELY weaker then the first half, with a lot of filler and having the series go nowhere till the last 2 episodes.
The Characters
The main duo get a lot of development in this half, but the new character, Norah, isn't that interesting, all we know is that the Church doesn't like her and think she is a pagan witch (they never explain why very well) all they say is that she is too good at protecting sheep from wolves... That is frustratingly dumb for this series!
The Animation/Special Effects
The animation is still not very impressive. Even the final battle scene isn't very good, the character movements are too stiff.
The Dub
The dub is still very well done. But I think the voice of Norah doesn't fit well. She sounds too high pitched and doesn't sound like a confident shepherdess who can fend off wolves.
Final Thoughts
Overall, this second half is definitely weaker than the first half. The main problem with this second half is that it's too slow, and this is already a slow paced show. It's still enjoyable, but don't expect a masterpiece out of this second half.
The Story 2/5 The Characters 2.5/5 The Animation/Special Effects 2/5 The Dub 4.5/5
Overall 3.5/5
Overall Thoughts
Overall, this show is ok as an adaptation to the original novels. I do think that the anime is overrated, but I still enjoy it on it's own. It isn't something I would watch again anytime soon, but if you are looking for something to watch and nothing else good is on, I would recommend you watch this series.
Part 1 3.5/5 Part 2 3.5/5
Overall 3.5/5

[Review] Year Walk (Wii U)
A dark and compelling Scandi fairy tale… now with gyro controls!
After playing Lorelei and the Laser Eyes, I was curious about Simogo's other moody puzzle adventures, especially this one which got an enhanced port to the Wii U. Now of course you can't buy Wii U games anymore, but there are more custom ways, and of course I supported the developer by buying a copy on Steam as well!
Year Walk leans into the developers' Swedish origins by portraying the old folk ritual of årsgång, where by deprivation and quest one might catch a glimpse of the future. This plays out as a short horror-puzzle adventure where you navigate a small forest, gathering clues and encountering dangerous creatures from Scandinavian folklore such as the Brook Horse and Church Grim.
Your surroundings are rendered like a bleak but beautiful watercolour pop-up book. Each screen is a simple 2D line with exits above and below, and occasional things to interact with. Year Walk keeps things fairly simple with the controls, but requires some note-taking to match up patterns and symbols. When you find one of the forest's monsters, things go beyond creepy fairy tale into the territory of jumpscares and slightly disturbing imagery, so be warned.
The ending is especially grim, but a post-credits scene hints at a deeper mystery that reveals a new layer to the story, explored via journal entries from a modern scholar of these cultural practices. I found it interesting, especially with respect to Lorelei which expands on similar concepts.
As a bite-sized but evocative puzzle game with some nice cultural ties it's a nice little package, but I found it rewarding to learn about the game's development history as well. Originally teased and hinted as almost an ARG, it arrived on iOS alongside a companion app with more background on the mythology involved, which does also have some gameplay relevance. A year later it received a computer port, which updates some things, integrates the encyclopedia, and adds a handy map. I found it worked well on Steam Deck with a combination of button and touchscreen controls. The Steam release also uniquely has achievements, some of which act as extra bonus puzzles.
The Wii U version came as a result of Nintendo courting indies in that era, with the porting help of Dakko Dakko. This goes all in on Gamepad features, with lots of gyro and rotation for basic actions, which I found strained my wrists a bit. There's an added interaction or two and certain notes and documents are now presented in Swedish with a translation for enhanced verisimilitude, but the use of the second screen is what makes this the definitive way to play for me, as it enables easy reference of the map, journal, etc. while keeping them separate from the context of the action in the forest. It also adds an in-built note-taking function, and an alternate more involved puzzle to unlock the second ending which even makes use of the normally dry Wii U digital manual!
I don't mind a bit of creepiness but outright horror and frights don't agree with me. But apart from these popping up infrequently, I found this very compelling, even clearing it multiple times for those Steam achievements. Unlike with Lorelei, there's no randomisation in the puzzles so each playthrough is more or less identical, but the game is most effective as a one and done in a single sitting anyway. The art design with its painted style and stop-motion-esque characters is strong and makes for a thick atmosphere; I also saw shades of Sayonara Wild Hearts in the more surreal moments… by the way, you can get that game, this one, and Lorelei in a bundle on Steam you know! They're all very good!

hellooo ^^
so i am a "baby christian", as you put it. basically, a while ago i was super on fire for God, was actively trying to build a relationship with Him, generally feeling a lot more at peace. but now i feel like i've relapsed back to my old ways ("not having time" to read the Bible, behaving more like an atheist than a Christian, even doubting His existence). especially the last one, I don't think that He's real anymore and I've never actually felt His love like other Christians say they have. obviously i don't want to feel like this bc i genuinely want to have a good relationship with him, but im stuck. any ideas? (thank u sm!!)
Hello lovely!
This makes so much sense and again, have definitely been in the same place. I'll address what you've said bit by bit, then more generally.
So, practical things first. Download a Bible app and turn on verse of the day notifications, then even if you don't open your Bible, or click on the notification, you'll skim read it when it comes up, and no matter how little time you have, you've read a bit of the Bible. Something little and easy is always better than nothing.
Habit is also a big part of all of this, both in finding time for things and in it becoming automatic. The most crucial things about habits are them being easy and often. You might have to think about these things at first, but put in the pathways for them to be automatic and it'll become easier. Here are some examples -
Wanting to read the Bible more (more than my suggestion above):
Carry a pocket Bible/app -> practice turning to it for questions or concerns -> eventually do it automatically
Wanting to act more Christian than atheist (we'll get into this more deeply in a minute):
eg practice crossing yourself as a quick prayer (eg at an ambulance, in difficult situations when you need guidance, when you need patience etc etc) until you do it automatically
Try to turn negative, 'unchristian' habits to more positive ones. Or even replace neutral or positive non-religious habits with religious habits. For example, I used to struggle with really bad anxiety. I used to handle this with bad habits, then I got into a positive habit of saying calming things, and now this is saying the Apostle's Creed etc. Obviously this might not be the most useful advice for someone with OCD say, but take and leave what's helpful for you. Similarly, maybe say a creed or a prayer or a psalm (something you can memorise and associate with calmness) maybe if you're quick to anger etc.
Now, more philosophical and less practical things. Coming from my religious perspective, works are the fruit of the spirit - ie behaving 'more christian', whatever that means to you, will come from 'within' and what you believe. Both acting more Christian as in doing more Christian ritualistic acts (crossing oneself, reading the Bible, etc) will come from a deeper, more practiced relationship with your faith so that you feel a need for these things, and acting more Christian in terms of kindness, patience, generosity etc will also come from a slow shifting of your beliefs as you develop your faith. One practical piece of advice I can give on this is, if you can, join a church. Both sides of this rub off on you from being surrounded by people acting how you would like to act. The opposite applies as well, and it's probably why you're finding it difficult - we're constantly being influenced by worldly, non-Christian influences, so of course it's difficult to buck the trend and lead a different life. Be gentle with yourself :)
I'll try and address your question on doubt and unbelief generally, but if you want to be more specific about your situation feel free to reach out again, on here or in messages. The persistence of your desire to have a relationship with Him despite doubt tells me that you have a root belief somewhere. As I don't know your exact reasons why, it's tricky to say much, but I can suggest that doing everything I've suggested so far will help. Pray, even if you think no one's listening, even if you just take it as a meditative practice without belief behind it. Pray however feels right for you - kneeling at an altar or chatting while you do stuff. If you can't approach God, approach St Mary, or a saint you feel is approachable (really powerful post on this here). Open your heart to other ways God is communicating with you. The chances of the Holy Spirit descending with a big sign saying 'I'm real, do this' is low, but I think this is secretly what part of us expects! But God speaks to us through other people, through subtle guiding of our life, through signs, and everything else. He will work in us, should we open our hearts. Don't put pressure on yourself to believe. Things come with time.
Faith is a long and difficult journey, so as above, be gentle with yourself and do reach out to me or others on here who might be helpful. If you want to believe, you've got a hard bit sorted!
Bless you x

Pope Francis, appearing from a balcony overlooking St. Peter’s Square, blessed those present after a Vatican aide delivered a papal speech on his behalf.CreditCredit...Yara Nardi/Reuters
Pope Francis, the leader of the Roman Catholic Church, groundbreaking Jesuit pontiff, dies on Easter Monday aged 88 💔
Death of 267th head of Catholic church triggers period of global mourning and Vatican conclave of cardinals to elect successor.
Pope Francis, the pontiff revered by millions of Catholics around the world whose popular appeal reached far beyond his global congregation, has died at the age of 88.
Francis, born Jorge Mario Bergoglio in Buenos Aires, Argentina 🇦🇷 in 1936, was elected pope in March 2013. Jesuit became the first Roman Catholic pontiff from the Americas and the first from the Southern Hemisphere. He chose to use the name Francis, which was inspired by Saint Francis of Assisi. He immediately signalled his style of the papacy by taking the bus, rather than a papal car, to his hotel, where he paid his bill before moving into the Vatican gueisthouse, eschewing the opulent papal apartments. At his first media appearance, he expressed his wish for a “poor church and a church for the poor”.

24 years ago, on 21st February 2001, Pope John Paul Il created Jorge Mario Bergoglio a cardinal.
Cardinal Kevin Farrell, the Vatican camerlengo, said: “At 7.35 this morning, the bishop of Rome, Francis, returned to the home of the Father. His entire life was dedicated to the service of the Lord and of his church.″
Francis, who suffered from chronic lung disease and had part of one lung removed as a young man, was admitted to Gemelli hospital on 14 February for a respiratory crisis that developed into double pneumonia. Blood tests showed anemia and thrombocytopenia, which led to a blood transfusion. He spent 38 days there, the longest hospitalisation of his 12-year papacy.
Loved by many Catholics for his humility, Francis simplified rites for papal funerals last year and previously said he had already planned his tomb in the basilica Santa Maria Maggiore in the Esquilino neighbourhood in Rome, where he went to pray before and after trips overseas. Popes are usually buried with much fanfare in the grottoes beneath St Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City.
In 2019, Francis summoned bishops from around the world to Rome to discuss the crisis and later issued an edict requiring priests and nuns to report sexual abuse and its cover-up to the church authorities, and guaranteeing protection for whistleblowers. It was a significant move towards the church taking responsibility for the scandals, and went much further than his predecessors.

Also during his tenure as the head of the Catholic church, Francis was obliged to respond to repeated acts of terrorism and persecution. He was at pains to stress that violence had no part to play in true practice of religion.
Francis spoke with compassion on issues of sexuality (famously responding “Who am I to judge?” to a question about gay priests), the family and the role of women in society – while adhering to traditional Catholic doctrine on marriage, contraception and abortion. Although many on the left strove to claim Francis as one of their own, he could not easily be defined as liberal or conservative.
On his many trips abroad, Francis was greeted like a rock star, with hundreds of thousands – sometimes millions – waiting for hours for a glimpse of the diminutive, white-robed figure in his open-sided popemobile. His appeal was particularly strong among young people, whom he frequently urged to reject materialism and over-dependence on technology. “Happiness … is not an app that you can download on your phones,” Francis – who had nearly 19 million followers of his English Twitter account– told Catholic youth in April 2016.

Although part of one lung was removed after a teenage infection, the pope was in remarkably good health until recent years. But he still kept up a busy schedule and last September embarked on his longest trip, to south-east Asia.
In July 2021, he had surgery to remove 13in of his large intestine, spending 10 days in hospital after the operation. Francis underwent further intestinal surgery in June 2023, almost three months after being hospitalised at Rome’s Gemelli hospital with bronchitis.
The deliberations and final choice of the Catholic church’s cardinal-electors in the coming days and weeks will determine whether Francis’s efforts to reform its institutions and to shift its emphasis towards the poor will be a durable legacy.
The College of Cardinals is expected to convene for the conclave within 15-20 days of Francis’s death.
We will remember Jorge Mario Bergoglio
Rest in Peace Pope Francis 1936-2025 🥀 🖤

A nine-day mourning period follows. The papal conclave to choose their next pope begins around 15-20 days after the pope's death. Cardinals who are under 80 years of age gather at the Vatican for this secretive process. They are locked inside the Sistine Chapel and cut off from the outside world.

Doctor Who: The Legend of Ruby Sunday (Worth the Wait).
In a season that has been decidedly hit and miss (with more of the latter than the former), The Legend of Ruby Sunday stands as a both startlingly detailed and wonderfully well-made. It might even be better than Boom! (the standout for this season so far) but I’m undecided on that one. It’s really astonishing how much of this episode just works, straight off the bat, especially given how many elements are in play at once. And there are are lot of elements. The Legend of Ruby Sunday is a dense, meaty slice of science fiction that feels worthy of the show’s spectacular, confident 2005 return. We have a woman who seems to have been multiplied and scattered across time and space but who, on present day Earth, is a tech billionaire preparing to release a new app that will change life on the planet in some mysterious and unspecified way. We have a time window that lets us see into Ruby Sunday’s equally mysterious past, developed in secret by UNIT (who have been spying on the tech billionaire). We have a dark cloud hanging over the TARDIS itself and ominous portents that He Who Waits is ‘returning’. It’s heavily implied that He Who Waits is something like the Celestial Toymaker but worse; far, far worse. And finally, at the end, we get a big, scary reveal that unveils the tech billionaire as a mere pawn in someone else’s game and the real identity of He Who Waits (and what he has to do with the dark presence lurking around the TARDIS). By golly that’s a lot of things and they all gel together nicely, creating a plot that feels kinetic and energised without feeling rushed.
Unfortunately, in order to review it properly, I’m going to have to spoil the big reveal at the end, so if you haven’t seen The Legend of Ruby Sunday yet, consider this a hearty, two-thumbed recommendation, go watch it, and then come back here for the analysis. SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT.
Done? Okay? Brilliant. So it turns out that He Who Waits is- and there’s no easy way to say it so I’m just going to come right and drop a bombshell on y’all- the no-kidding god of death (Sutekh to his friends). The tech billionaire (Susan, but it doesn’t matter) is one of his vessels, come to bring the gift of death to the noisy, babbling universe while the dark cloud around the TARDIS is Sutekh’s own body, scattered but waiting to manifest. And manifest he does, immediately causing his vessels and harbingers to turn into zombie-things whose merest touch can turn people to dust. Cue the ‘TO BE CONTINUED’ bit and roll the credits, because that, ladies and gents, is how you do a fucking cliff-hanger.
Doctor Who really does seem to be at its best when it’s doing full-on cosmic horror lately (the ridiculousness of The Giggle notwithstanding, it still leant heavily into that vibe; even moreso Wild Blue Yonder). Don’t get me wrong: I wasn’t necessarily a fan of the wishy-washy supernatural elements introduced this season (the stupid bloody fairy circle for 73 Yards can grab its cunty little goblin friends from The Church on Ruby Road and fuck right off), but Ill forgive them since this is apparently what they were building to. The Doctor- the pinnacle of intelligent, problem-solving rationality- matching wits with a god death embodying the blackest, deepest depths of terror and superstition? Yessity-fucking-please! And the route we took to get here: the reunions and cheer of UNIT overcast and overshadowed with a palpable sense of looming dread as a storm rolls into London, presaging the terror to come. It’s great! It’s even gotten me psyched for the next episode; the final instalment of this season and this story. Well, it’s mostly got me psyched.
See, as much as I enjoyed The Legend of Ruby Sunday, I do worry that one great episode does not equal a trend and that the titanic confrontation promised at the end of this one might not actually be paid off in the sequel. We could end up with the Doctor getting sidelined by other, more active characters, or Sutekh getting nerfed for reasons of plot-convenience. Hopefully the two-parter got written in one mammoth session on one of Russel T. Davies’ more switched-on days and the quality will remain consistent across the halves, because it would be great if this season could end on a bang instead of a whimper.
Sorry. I don’t mean to sound negative while I’m in the middle of praising something. The problem is that this season has been such a mixed bag, it’s hard not to have my opinion of even great episodes coloured by the quality of the episodes that surround them.
Anyway! Back to the positivity! What works here is as much about what the episode doesn’t do as what it does do. We’re not interrupted, for example, by any unnecessary musical numbers (look, I was fine with the Celestial Toymaker having a song-and-dance routine, because he’s that kind of over the top villain, but the number of episodes that ground to a halt for musicals this season was starting to get ridiculous). We’re also mercifully free of rushed romantic subplots (again, Doctor Who plus romance is fine, it just needs awhile to percolate, and if you’re not going to do it properly, you shouldn’t do it at all, BBC). And, most importantly of all, there’s no overt, straight-to-camera speeches about [INSERT RIPPED-FROM-THE-HEADLINES ISSUE HERE]. I’ve broadly agreed with the show’s politics this season (we’re not lost in Tory Chibnal territory here), but I don’t want to hear any point repeated ad nauseum, even a good point. All the focus here is on delivering a proper, well-constructed story and it’s really refreshing.
I have gripes, of course. I appreciate the low-key diss someone slipped past the editorial team by making the god of death look a bit like a mouse. Disney, whose money Doctor Who now depends on is, of course, the ‘House of Mouse’ and it’s fair to say it’s influence is one of the factors slowly killing interest in the show, so yeah: right on whoever came up with that monster design. Unfortunately, it does have the unexpected side-effect of making Sutekh look adorable, which probably isn’t the vibe they were going for. Also, I’ve seen Lenny Rush on Taskmaster and now I’ve seen him in this and he definitely makes a better comedian than an actor. I mean, fair play to the wee fella, I’ve just googled him and he’s only fifteen so it’s totally to be expected that he’s not quite there yet. It just seems weird he’s in a more serious-skewing episode.
Overall, however, The Legend of Ruby Sunday is a refreshing change of pace in a season that’s struggled to find its feet. Hopefully, it’s a blueprint for both the season finale and Ncuti Gatwa’s upcoming second season as the Doctor. This kind of thing is good. This kind of thing can bring fans together. This kind of thing is what the show needs now.
Please, please, Russel T. Davies. MORE OF THIS SORT OF THING.
EDIT: Yes, I'm aware that Sutekh is supposed to look like a jackal, but 'supposed to' is the operative phrase in this context. From the camera angle privileged towards the end of the episode, with the big ears and adorable little whiskers, the motherfucker looks like a mouse, and that will never not be funny to me.
