Hickey for the character asks pls? 👉👈
ohohoho! lovey suggestion !! i am always down to talk about a fellow ratt, so yes of course!
First Impression: IS THAT FUCKING HICKEY?? THE FERRET FACED FUCK I HATED WITH MY WHOLE BEING? THAT'S HIM? THEY MADE HIM A FUCKING TWINK???? People better not be fucking woobifying him i swear to god...
Impression Now: ohh noo. oh no my worst fear has come to life... i like hickeyyyy i like him a lotttt. i feel like this is how billy feels just "oh god. oh god is this working for me? son of a bitch it's working" On a real note though, he is sooo fascinating to me. He's a lot more genuine than i think people give him credit for. He's just so paranoid and has been taught to be so self-sufficient that it overrides any actual connection he might make with people. When given the chance to help, he does so, even if it is often tied to making himself look good. He didn't have to help Manson and Hartnell take Hornby's body down. He could've just cut in to undermine Irving and left it at that. He didn't have to grave rob to propose to Billy. He could've left everyone to burn in the carnival. (The fact he gutted McDonald do so and only looked as upset as "you fucking idiot, you stained my knife"... well that's just the other half of his personality showing) But he does all that. bc he does care. in his own twisted, detached way. Adam Nagaitas said something to this tune in an interview and its like. yeah!! he does care!! ...he just cares about getting himself on top (👀) more than any of that.
Favorite Moment: Goddddd what a hard question. Is it bugger victoria? (shout out fitzjamesbulletwound) Is it ratt wedding? (his smile is so sweet) is it his speech at the gallows? ("BUT ABANDONING HIS SHIP!!! SHOULD NOT BE AMONG THEMMM ☝️") i could be predictable and say its him taking his lashing like a fucking champ. his cheeky fucking smile throughout really encapsulates his "fuck you, I'll endure just to spite you" attitude. No it's not any of that. It's his casual smoke after he and billy get caught. it's really indicative of his personality and the unshakable force he'll be in the narrative. "there's worse things than being lashed ;)"
Idea for a Story: would loveeee to do a deep dive into his past. even if leaving it a mystery is more compelling, I'd really like to see what kinda menace he is on the streets of england.
Unpopular Opinion: that he actually doesn't want to eat people. he wasn't going into this with the hope that they'd turn cannibal. the situation had just gotten so dire and his lead poisoning and/or god compex had corroded his brain so bad he probably thought it made him an apex predator.
Favorite Relationship: He's got so many delicious dynamics to choose from but I think I'll go Crozier. He wants to be his friend. He wants to usurp him. He wants to fuck him. He wants to kill and eat him. He doesn't want his men to rough him up. He greatly looks forward to having a chat with him at the end of the world. He chains him to a boat.
Favorite Headcanon: that he plays the piano. and he's not great, but he knows his way around it. and its great fun to play for a crowd of belligerently drunk assholes who dont know the difference.
ANYWAYS THANK U THANK U FOR GIVING ME A REASON TO TALK ABOUT THIS FREAK <3333

hiii I love ur writing and they way you've made the minnie character. but I wish we could see more of mingyu×minnie action!!! I think they're so cute and their playful (almost bullying) but also so loving and adorable compex is so fun to read! and their naughty moments too omg (that one nana tour scene u wrote) you do such a good job in writing them, wish we could see more of this duo's romance <3
Omg hiii babes, you’re so sweet🥺😭
thank you so much for enjoying the series!!!😭🫶🏼😭🫶🏼😭 I‘d LOVE to write more for Minnie x mingyu, I’m just generally slightly more careful about it bc there’s definitely a big audience that loves them, there’s also some that want to keep them as a more platonic duo who gets spicy every now and then, but I can of course write a more romantic chapter for just the two of them!!!☺️🥰 Just let me know whether it should be cute or spicy👀🤭

This isn’t an ask. I just wanted to say thank you to you for letting others like myself express our disappointment for the upcoming Jeju Are You Sure? episodes. I have been reading a few other blogs and yours seems to be pretty much one of the very few that is willing to let others voice their disappointment and anger.
I am not a huge fan of Tae’s. He has disappointed me so many times with his indifference towards Jimin and his constant need to use Jungkook’s name to what I consider as him feeding his trolls and trying to stay relevant. Just my opinion. Nobody has to agree with me.
I am upset (was angry) for two reasons about these next few episodes 1) because I feel like I was duped. This was presented as a Jikook Show (all 8 episodes) with just Jimin and Jungkook being together to show us more of their relationship, whether we believe it is just platonic or romantic. BUT instead, BH’s marketing staff had to go and decide to make a “guest” appear after what seems like his insistence to be there. They hid this fact and just dropped it on all of us that were turning in to watch a show that only consist of Jimin and Jungkook. 2) I find Tae to be self absorbed most of the time. He had two of his own shows and no one from BTS was a guest in these shows. It seems that he can’t let others have something for themselves. It feels like he must always insert himself into something that doesn’t involve him.
I get it that I am probably going to receive some hate for what I said, but I can’t help the way I feel. And honestly, I don’t care.
Sorry for the length of this. Again, I appreciate you and thank you.
You're very welcome. I think people have the right to feel whatever they feel. The way the company went about this show was definitely sketchy so it's fair that some people would feel deceived. I'm trying to stay positive because in the end the show is still "mostly" only jikook (5 episodes out of 8) and it will still give us lots of endearing moments and further insight into their relationship/dynamics. But at the same time... yeah, it is not as it was advertised.
Personally I don't dislike Tae. I'm aware that some of his behaviors could be seen as problematic, so I get it. But at the same time I have a hard time believing he's being malicious on purpose. My theory is that he simply feels excluded. Vminkook have a compex relationship that has gone through a lot of changes and ups and downs and it's obvious that jikook's evolving relationship (whether it is a romantic relationship or a friendship that got progressively closer) destabilized it. We've seen both vmin and tk go through some rough patches and become "distant" while jikook kept getting closer and closer and that's not a coincidence. I mean if you believe jikook is "real" and you put yourself in Tae's shoes, it must have sucked pretty bad lol. And it probably still does, especially considering jm is his best friend. Yeah I know, some people will think this is not a justification for certain behaviors of his (encouraging tkkers and name dropping jk while embellishing the stories of their encounters) and that's fair. But I also think that if he were really being malicious then jikook wouldn't still be friends with him, you know what I mean?
Of course you don't have to agree but I'm offering my perspective.

Ah, a fellow Autistic Person.
Do you have any tips for living away from your parents?
Hiiii ✨ sorry for taking so long to answer
Honestly my biggest advice would be to exploit your capacity to learn huge amounts of information.
I've learned how to budget, grocery shop, how to clean, take care of an apartment, build furniture, sew and maintain clothing, stay safe and cook all thanks to the internet, mostly of course I had some basic skills before hand too. I know it might sound basic but even if you think you know to do all of it I'd advise you still learn a bit more, you never know, good basics are essential.
There's tones of YouTube channels catered around all these topics, that's how I like to learn the most personally. I used to watch videos after videos of people explaining all these things in great detail.
Outside of that I'd say try and make friends with your neighbours, I'm not talking be besties but offer help to people in your community, the shop owners and the old people too, be a good presence, don't be scared of them, like I was originally lol. You never know, these people could be the ones helping you soon too, I've been unable to work a few times when I lived alone, became very short on money and old ladies would offer me small jobs they couldn't do in their flats, the shop owner down my appartement compex pretty much gave me food. Besides, it's very isolating to be autistic so feeling safe in your community is even more important.
In the instance where you go through autistic burnout alone, I'd say try and put money aside for those times specifically, just so you can order food and be a recluse without getting in the red and stressing out over money while you're already collapsing mentally.
Try your best to accept and love yourself, drop the mask if you can, i know I personally don't control when I have it on but I'm masking way less than I used to and it's really been a game changer, it helps me avoid violent burnouts much better. People generally just like me more when I don't mask too which goes in my favour, they'll find you odd anyway so you might as well.
Hope this was helpful 💖
I've tried my best to remember all the things I did, I first moved out when I was 16 so it's all pretty blurry now but that's what I was able to gather ❤️

Well I wouldn't go THAT far. In the Iliad too he seems to care for some of his close peers closer than others (for example he saves Diomedes with the risk of his own life) and he is the one who usually tries to bring everyone together in battle but of course out of many heroes in Trojan War he definitely is a real pragmatist and he can be ruthless when he has to (the same with Odyssey of course). Again ironically the way others interract with him is interesting, how they treat him with cold respect apart from one or two exceptions. While their admiration and respect are genuine there doesn't seem to be real warmth towards him apart from some exceptions like Diomedes or Menelaus so that plays its part too which is very interesting. But truth to be told his darker side is good to be shown from the homeric perspective (because damn post-homeric sources make him like the villain. They go the other way! Hahahaha!) I did try to capture it a little in my Ismarus themed fic myself
And I actually am all about it to show some of these darker ends of his personality. Of course I wouldn't go all the way to how Romans envisoned him either! I do love that compexity of his personality. Yes he is capable of running away from a situation especially when the gods disapprove because of his piousness to the gods but he is also capable of fighting a team of Trojans alone to cover the retreat of his comrades. He is capable of surviving and at the same time he gears up to protect his men from a 6-headed immortal monster. He can lie to conceal himself but he will bring himself to the light when someone like his son is in danger.
In Iliad he beats up a guy that opposes authority but in the same passage he is a diplomat who tries to patch things up between two kings. He has no reason to wish for the war to continue and yet he does so in order for all to be united. Like this dude is a subject of analysis no matter what he does!
Wanna see more vaguely evil odysseus content.... in the iliad, that mf is ruthless, a complete pragmatist, and cares for little other than his wife and son....
(Note to self write more morally grey odysseus content)

Ohhhh…
… Oh… OHHHHHHHH.
Oh. Oh my. Oh, this is curious.
Horobi says something about Jin reaching singularity again.
Except this time, it’s out of anger toward humans. Which is what I think Horobi wanted. He didn’t want Jin to have a singularity that was sympathetic to humans, bc of how much he hates them—he probably views that as still being subservient. He wants Jin to see what he perceives as humanity’s true nature.
Oh gods… Horobi, are you gonna deliberately let yourself get taken down next week to complete this? The summary said something about the Ark having woken… And now I’m thinking about my theory of Horobi intending for Jin to rule the new world… Gaaaaah…

I adore your take on the mystery kids but I have a question
The minamotos are canon siblings (and the Yugi Twins too) is there a reason why you prefer making the mystery kids interacting rather than the Minamotos ?
Have a nice day
Heya Anon! Thanks for the question! :D
It's a really interesting one!
I adore the Minamoto siblings with all my heart :0 They are absolutely adorable and I would die for them :DDD (not gonna give my opinion on the Yugi Twins I don't really like Tsukasa and I find their relationship really meh ahah)
Tumblr media
They are a kind of siblings which indeed can exist in some families. Just loving siblings, I am eating this they are super cute dshdjshj
They all love each other a lot. We do have some shenanigans with them. Mostly about how overprotective they are and I love this sm. The brothers are really blind and sweet when it comes to Tiara they spoil her so much :D And Teru is so ready to kill anyone who goes next his siblings it's insane I love him, great older sibling behavior :DD
Tumblr media
(Kou litteraly asked Teru this with this whole supernaturals stuff. Teru would rather be a zombie than a supernatural help)
But they are not at each other throats, I can't really imagine this at all. Kou has a strong admiration/respect for Teru which I adore in term of plot (and honestly which is pretty realistic too) but which also created a barrier between them which is pretty visible in my opinion :0 and Teru is also not telling him anything
They are not that honest with each other in the end and it gives us a really interesting relationship :0
I really like the take between Kou and Teru's relationship this is one of my fav plot in the manga because I really like both of them and the compexity of their relationships
The Minamotos are just missinga little bit of the most important thing for me in a sibling relationship
the ChaOs
As I said, there are all type of siblings, but the one I know the most (myself included, being in a family of 3 children. And most people I know have 2 or 3 siblings ahah) are more chaotic than this :0
It is not that hard for me to imagine the mystery kids interacting and be ready to annoy the other just for the fun of it
Hanako and Akane have a wonderful sibling energy
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Akane is just brutaly honest with Hanako and so ready to destroy him when the other is just staying close in the only goal to annoy the shit out of him and that's such a sibling behavior
Oh he notices Akane doesn't like when he does something? He will do it even more you can count on it
Same goes with Mei and Sousuke
Tumblr media
They are really out there trying to destroy the others casually
(Mei teasing Sousuke is my fav thing ever she would do it so well lol Even If I mostly see her as Teru, super ready to destroy people who hurt her little siblings ahah she strong)
And Akane and Mirai of course but this one is a given I mean it's obvious, we can all agree on this
Tumblr media
He is really out there saying she is an animal and honestly that's such a big sibling move with much younger siblings lol
I just love chaos. Siblings can be people who respect each other but who are also ready to make the other's life an absolute nightmare in every way possible, and that's what the mystery kids are about for me :DD They are here to make fun of the others whenever they can and be serious when they have too. They have a strange respect for the others, but are so ready to annoy the hell out of each other just for the fun of it. Doing the most stupid shit together to annoy one of the siblings or their dad? Oh they will do the strangest alliance to do stupid shit
And It's easier for me to imagine this for the mystery kids because they all have strong personnalities and are all chaotic in their own ways I just think it could work really well :D (and I am insane about them at this point tbh)
I adore the Minamoto siblings and the mystery kids but not for the same reason :D The Minamotos are the wholesome af siblings I would kill for and the mystery kids are the siblings who would set your house on fire just for the fun of it :D

Many people who are quicker writers than me probably already said things I'll say below, but as the guy who started the debacle in the first place, I felt the need to chime in. I apologise in advance, for this will not be a kind post.
You say that MHA has better characters. Yet I found that even the Parahumans we really see for a handful of chapters, like Bakuda or Marquis, have more compexity and work put into them than a good half of class 1A. Sometimes combined. In fact, someone like Marquis or Lung has almost as many moving parts to him as Midoriya, the protagonist. Worm's characters are alive, with thoughts, drives and contradictions. MHA mostly has a bunch of tried shounen tropes with maybe a tiny twist thrown in here and there.
Speaking of contradictions. You say that authorial intent in regards to Taylor "oscillates wildly between being directed to think of her as a misunderstood victim of circumstance, or history's greatest monster." But why not both? Or neither? This binary is utterly reductive, because Skitter is intended to be a controvertial character. She does wrong things for the right reasons, and right things for the wrong reasons. She sacrifices everyone, including herself, in her hubris and trauma-induced inability to trust anyone. That's an arc, that's complexity, that's an actual, real character flaw that's something beyond "he's a bit dorky."
You say MHA has a better plot and messages. Let me ask you, what the hell is MHA's themes? I couldn't answer this question myself, so I asked a friend, who formulated two: "even the most ordinary person can make a difference", or "the world and its systems aren't perfect, but it's possible to make them better with effort". Sounds about right, albeit generic, but that may be a poor argument. Except guess what, MHA barely delivers on either of these. The first is infamously invalidated by Izuku receiving one of the strongest quirks in the world. The narrative tries to rectify this, but it also almost instinctively almost always says that Deku couldn't be where he is without OFA. The second one is no better. Sure, the big bad AFO got Aster Blastered. But what about the descrimination of the quirkless, the monstrous, the eugenics programs ran by people like Endeavor, the corruption among the celebrity-hero culture that Stain talked about? The answer is "eh, something happened, probably." There are some signs here and there of things improving, but they are barely coherent even after the eight-year timeskip, and they also only very tangentially tie into the main antagonist's defeat.
Worm has a clear main message, spoken clearly through Taylor's arc. "The strength of humanity is in cooperation, but not one achived through terror and authoritarianism". Themes of friendship, loneliness, control of others and oneself are repeated again and again through Taylor herself, Masters like the Heartbroken and Jack Slash, Bakuda, Case 53s, the Dallon family and of course, Scion himself. The Gold Morning is the culmination of all of this, both of Khepri's fallacies and humanity's final perseverance. Make no mistake, Worm isn't really a story about saving the world in the same way as MHA is, but I still find it hopeful, despite the darkness. Funnily enough, this is one of the few works I've seen that treats the topics of "power of friendship" and "murder is not a good thing" like a mature adult. It is also the only story so far that really sold me on these.
And because it actually has a theme and a message, Worm's worldbuilding trumps Academia's every day of the week. It's timeline is consistent, its Hero Organisation developed a threat system to effectively combat parahumans with just more or less regular SWAT (which couldn't be said about MHAs police, but that's neither here nor there), the powers themselves tie into the theme of mental health and loneliness. It's not flawless by any means, but it is coherent and purposeful, unlike MHA, that did a thing kind of for the sake of doing things. The fact that it's set 500 years into the future, Nezu's status as quirked animal, the Quirk Singularity. At least Worm, due to being laser focused on a single protagonist, has an excuse to not show things because they are outside of Taylor's POV, or really needed for her arc. MHA's things just feel like Horikoshi, indeed, had no idea what he was doing. Merely reproducing the tropes of superhero and shounen, instead of examining and reimagining them like Wildbow did.
And this is why I also never bought into "Worm is grimderp" argument. It's dark and depressive as shit, no lie here, but it is so precisely because it tackles dark and depressive as shit topics. No one 1984 or 451 Farenheit "edgy for the sake of being edgy". Though they are shorter stories, in all fairness.
And let's not kid ourselves here, MHA doesn't have "body horror". Frankly, saying this would be an insult to the genre. The main villain growing a few extra limbs for the final fight isn't horror, it's just the generic "monstrous form" shounen power-up. The downward spiral of Amy Dallon resulting in her own sister becoming and suffering as the Wretch is body horror. Bonesaw turning people into outward copies of the worst people on planet Earth is body horror. The inevitable absorption of Noelle Meinhardt into Echidna is body horror. Sveta Karelia at the Asylum is body horror. Shadow Stalker in Regent's interlude is body horror. They are so because the atmosphere, the fear, the horrible realization is given the time to grow, to fester. The MHA's "horror" is perhaps only slightly more technically complex than me jumping out of the corner at you and yelling "Boo!" loudly. And because of this fact, Worm can actually use its horror to reinforce its themes (loss of autonomy in particular) and character work. It serves a bigger purpose. Shigaraki just gets a moderately freaky Fortnight skin. Credit where credit is due, though, the artwork is appropriately gruesome.
In conclusion, MHA is to Worm is what a median MCU movie is to the Watchmen graphic novel. It's okay to enjoy, it's okay to enjoy both, even. But one clearly operates on a different level, and you failed to recognise that. And so I leave you with a quote from another mangaka, one who actually knows how to write long stories with good themes and shiz:
Tumblr media
what if I made a post telling macadamia hero fans sad that their thing is over to read worm. Would that be funny? Could they handle amy?

Unto Arcadia: A Living Future
In 2023 I encountered the Hexorian movement.  If you’re not familiar with it (and you may not be) it’s from the freeform “Chaos” magic school, focusing on the idea of a god of cities, Hexorius.  A diety of the undercurrents and foundations, Hexorius had a powerful effect on those involved in the movement - suggesting not something created but something deeper and primal.
I took to these ideas because it’s apparent that cities are living things, and because of my own interest in genius loci.  However, the Hexorians also followed other dieties, other faces of Hexorius or a Power behind all of them.  One was Valdas, the god that took on those who explored the city, but most fascinating to me was Arcadia.
Arcadia was a deity or ideal of a City To Be.  A sorcerous solarpunk future, where man, magic, and nature were in balance, a place for everyone.  She was a roadmap, a goal - and a goddess at the same time.  A living future.
Though Hexorian magic and practices appealed to me based on previous experience, this issue resonated hard with me, and I wanted to explore what it says here.
Utopian dreams are nothing new to humanity - nor is their failure.  Someone is always trying to build a utopia, and someone always has a plan, hoping to build a bright future on failed ones.  In some cases, utopia seems to involve getting rid of a lot of people who don’t fit the blueprint.  Other ideas of utopia live only as abstract plans, turning into something else when released into reality.
The idea of Arcadia a future regarded as alive, an idea I approve of as noted in my other writings.  Arcadia isn’t a blueprint or an outline, but a goal of a future that was organic, balanced, a living thing, a god.  It’s something you form a relationship with, not follow a checklist.
Be our practices mystical or not, the idea that the future is alive is critical to our own survival.  We’re not going to hammer the future we want into place - the world and all in it are alive and complex, and nothing we do will change that.*  We have to form a relationship with the future in order to have the one we want - or have one at all.
The future has to be treated as a living thing just to acknowledge the sheer size of it all and how connected it is to everything.  To think of it in mechanical ways is to miss this.
It’s not much of a leap to regard the future as a god.  Perhaps, from a mystical point of view, a very rational approach.  As I note - again and a gain - I find the idea of a god to be useful if nothing else.  The universe is big and compex.
(Of course, in this interlinked world, it’s not that hard to imagine a future as literally alive, manifesting through us.)
Thus in my daily observations, I sometimes close by saying “Unto Arcadia.”  A way to acknowledge the living future we can aim for.  Because our future, no matter how you think of it, will be like a living thing.
In fact, if we don’t recognize an organic future, we might not have one.  Arcadia may be our only choice.
Unto Arcadia.
- Xenofact
* Well, if humanity wipes itself and all life on Earth out we might change it.  But that’s not a future of survival for us.

Hello puppets theory #2: The needs of puppets
Using some inspiration from Marlow's hierarchy of needs (Which I don't particularly agree a lot but its an ok basis for my theory with the puppets)
So this goes with my theory and headcannon that Owen gave the puppets to much humanity to the point that they are more humans than puppets
Since they are now living things, my theory goes that the puppets are now exhibiting many needs that living things exhibit
We all don't necessarily exhibit all of them as individuals work differently, but I can aee some primary and psychological needs that Marlow's theory mentions
For example the need of resources to live is represented on the way puppets need host
Or the need to feed on their curious nature like Riley does with her science and experiments and her desires to be renowned.
My theory is that Owens reflection of the puppets only goes beyond the main four characteristics in the game he represented that was presented in all four puppets, however the puppets are their own free individuals ans creations of free will with their desires and needs.
This goes mostly reflected on their needs and wants, and of course what they desire based on those Nicks
I am not particularly fond of trying to find a way to connect Owen into the puppets and his past as it does takes away of the puppets individuality, and it stretches a lot of the lore we were given to the point it doesn't feel natural to me, but that's my silly personal opinion
I do respect and understand those who do believe in those Owen theories, I just happen to strongly disagree, but I am more than fine if you believe the latter and disagree with me. There is no confirmation of what the actual lore is, and I do love to read and see other variations
The puppets all have a need of survival, ao that goes out of the picture as it goes with Everyone.
So my theory for each of the puppets are the following
Mortimer
Mortimer exhibits a great need of control in his environment including his subjects. I believe it's tied to his desire of staying in power and being the true voice of the puppets (As he's rather paranoid)
Mortimer exhibits a need of safety. This goes more into him being a paranoid as he's afraid and is suspicious that everyone is doing stuff behind his back and he wants to make sure he's safe from danger as the "Father" of the cult
Mortimer see and has a great desire of seel upgrade through comparing himself as as a king and wanting his show back it feeds with his desire around his ego
I do think he has a slight physiological need of companionship, but he wants subjects rather than a "family"
Riley
Riley has more compex needs, so I'll start with the Good boi as her need of companionship. As she has a strong bond and most likely a codependency with Mortimer, he's the unstable individual that she cannot fulfill that need +She really misses her good boi
Riley has the need of improving and challenging herself. Riley has a pretty damn good self-eateem and she knows she can do better than her current situation as she expreses it im the tapes
Riley has a need of approval from Mortimer although she has a good self-esteem. I do thibk this is due to Mortimer's rather chilly and unstable demeanor. Riley wants to prove herself she's worthy as Mortimer is a always criticizing everyone.
Now I do believe part of Riley is seeking for a safer and more grounded place in the host world as the way they are living limits for their survival needs
Daisy
Daisy seems to have a great need of self worth and appriciation which she doesn't have on herself. I'll say this goes more into the esteem needs
I am not sure if Daisy has a need for companionship, but I guess it could be related to her need and desire to be nice and pleasant to people to like her.
Ummm for Self a actualization, I'll say Daisy wants more people to not treat her as this dumb person and she wants people to respect her and be nicer to her as she's nice to them
For safety, ummm I think that Neeed was satisfied after Riley helped her accept Danger mode as part of her
Nick
First and foremost Nick has a lot of self-esteem issues that he hides through some related Narcissism (I forgot what is called, but ifs about usikg narcissism to deflect your low-self-esteem )
For safety, I do believe it's related to escape Mortimer's physical abuse and be in space where he can lower his defense mechanisms and be himself
Self actualization could be Nick wanting something good for once like a better upgraded room and Mortimer at least favoring him
Well, I'll talk about Nicks feelings now. As a reminder, I dont think anyone is related and they're a cult. So, let's dive into the most important need he has:
So, we know about Nick's feelings and I have seen people theorized it was translated into Owen crushing on someone, but I think this is more about Nick's physiological means of love and companionship as I do think a tape is implying Owen to be an AroAce. So Nick's love and desires for Riley delivers from his need and desires to have love, give love, and recieve love. I do believe his painting reflects his needs of having a strong and trustful relationship that he's hesitant to have because he's embarrassed to admit he...well wants Riley to be his mate as in thr last tape he seemed to have an idea of what they were going to do at Mortimers office (I saw a scripted version error on the rosco's origins video that made me belief Nick thought perhaps he was either tying the knot with her or want to escape) this goes with his hopeless romantic fantasies but it goes into another set of headcannons. Tell me id you're interested
Well, there you have it folks!

hi a very quick question - I saw that you're reading The Expanse and wanted to ask: is it better to start with the books or with the tv series? thank you in advance ✨
Strap into your crash couch and ready yourself for a hard burn, because given the chance I will ramble on about The Expanse (and thank you for giving me the perfect opportunity to!)
TL;DR: you can go either way! Season 6 (final season for now hopefully, I won't tell you why it actually makes sense to end here for now) airs next Friday, December 10th on Amazon Prime. The final book Leviathan Falls is out now. Read it, watch it, I promise you won't regret it.
The beauty of The Expanse is the fact that you can go either way because even though the show is a faithful adaptation of the books, they are also improved upon by the fact that the book writers (James S.A. Corey is the pen name of Ty Franck and Daniel Abraham) are also very involved in the show. Here's the book vs show timeline by /u/prograft on Reddit:
Tumblr media
(Season 6 will cover Book 6 and the trailer suggested it will have some elements of one of the novellas as well)
As with every adaptation, there are changes made in order to meet the constraints of putting words into screen. Timelines will be condensed (The Expanse takes the physics of spaceflight and orbital mechanics very seriously, so travel time is a huge factor. No artificial gravity or FTL spaceflight), some plot lines are shuffled about, but the core of the story is very faithful.
What's also interesting and especially well done in The Expanse is the way characters are handled. A beloved prominent show character Camina Drummer is four book characters condensed together, for example. Some characters are given more compexity and warmth in the show. Some do not appear at all, some are show exclusive and don't appear in the books or given different roles, but again, the beat of the story is consistent. The Belter Creole in the show is also much better in the show because they consulted a linguist.
In addition to that, AFAIK they already know the ending of the nine-book series before the show even aired, so in comparison to say, Game of Thrones, the direction and the focus of the show is already established from the beginning. It did face a setback when it was cancelled after three seasons before being picked up by Amazon, but all in all, it was handled very well.
Still despite how very well done the show is, the books are as excellent, and I'd argue, even better. Ty and Daniel have a very keen eye in building up tension, laying out conflicts, and wrapping up story threads. The books are written in detail-rich, straightforward yet epic prose that, despite the whole bulk of worldbuilding needed to establish the universe, doesn't feel dense at all. Quite the contrary—it's an action packed, fast-paced space opera set in a very cool yet very grounded in real life physics universe, but in its very core its a very human story. The characters feel alive and rich and flawed. The politics and conflicts very close to home. Some of the philosophical theses handled in the books about the nature of humanity have made me lie down on the floor and tear up.
It's not perfect, of course. There are some things put into focus that I deem unnecessary, and some more things which framing I don't quite agree on, and I have a lot of thoughts about how despite how diverse the cast of characters are, it could still be much better.
All in all, both the show and the book series are very well done sci-fi. I'd argue it has earned its place among the classics. Whether you choose to read the books first or watch the series first, you'll be in for a grand time.
